A feint is a simulated threat or menace that so closely resembles a real attack that the adversary is compelled to respond.

Instead of beginning on the hand signal and voice command from the Instructor, any attacking action can be cued upon changes in disposition, as often occasions arise in actual bouts against an adversary.
Typically these are presented by passing from one blade placement to another, making an invitation, attempting an engagement, or bringing the blade into line.
Here are the same two attacks as above, but done "in time" to the attempted engagement (escaping blade contact entirely).
