Copyright First Responders New York State (CFRNY) is a network of librarians, archivists, and library staff who have received intensive training in copyright, specifically as it applies to libraries and other cultural institutions, and who commit to supporting their communities and colleagues around these issues.
Peer support. First and foremost, CFRNY is a community designed to provide help and support to colleagues around copyright. CFRs can draw upon the expertise, resources, and camaraderie of their peers in the network.
Ongoing professional development. CFRs receive regular updates about current copyright topics from Kyle K. Courtney and others. Additionally, there are regular opportunities for copyright-related discussion.
Support for colleagues. In addition to supporting one another, CFRs are committed to supporting their colleagues at their own institutions. Check out the directory to see if there’s a CFR at your institution.
All members of CFRNY participate in an immersive training program as members of a cohort. It is our goal to make training cohorts available at least annually. Trainings will be posted here as they are available.
If you would like us to reach out to you when a training cohort opens up, please contact us!
Training of Cohort 2 began in February 2024. Please contact us if you are interested in participating in future cohorts.
CFRNY is an informal network. We rely on a small group of co-facilitator volunteers to keep things running and organize meetings.
Find our current group of co-facilitators below:
Emily Kilcer, Scholarly Communication Librarian, University at Albany
Mike Priehs, Copyright Specialist for Education, and Interim Lead, Journal Hosting Program, Cornell University Library; and Visiting Instructor, Cornell University Department of Information Science
