Why We Fundraise

In 2017, Adam met his now wife Sarah, who has Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a complex, expensive, and time-consuming disease caused by a defective gene that produces thick, sticky mucus in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. In the lungs, mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria, leading to infections, extensive lung damage, and respiratory failure. In 2018, Sarah was able to participate in the clinical trials for a miracle drug called Trikafta that has changed her life and the lives of those with Cystic Fibrosis. The funds to research and develop Trikafta were made possible by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation through events like the Xtreme Hike.

Since 2020, Susan and Mike have been hiking and holding fundraising events to raise money for a cure. In 2025 Adam and Sarah joined to hike and volunteer. As part of the 2026 Xtreme Hike to Cure Cystic Fibrosis, Team Sarahtonin is hiking 30.1 miles in one day on the Appalachian Trail to raise money to cure Cystic Fibrosis. The Cupids, Cocktails, and Crafts, York County CF Benefit Golf Tournament, and your generous donations each year have helped our team raise over $75,000 for Cystic Fibrosis. Through your help, Sarah has been able to live a full, relatively healthy life that otherwise would have been very different. But Trikafta isn't a cure, and it doesn't work for everyone with Cystic Fibrosis, so we continue to fight, hike, and fundraise for a cure. 🥾 💪
