As a Ph.D. candidate and scholar-activist, Jhannel Tomlinson has, since 2015, dedicated herself to learning from and sharing with other like-minded women on issues related to eco-feminism, climate injustice, climate change adaptation, and the inclusion of vulnerable groups. Over this period, Jhannel has been engaged in multidisciplinary teams conducting climate change-related work across Caribbean countries, including Jamaica, Haiti, Barbuda, and Grenada. She has also had the privilege of leading and being engaged in advocacy campaigns, projects, and initiatives across the Caribbean, which have sought to adopt an intersectional approach to empowering grassroots organizations and local communities in the fight for a just future. These movements have more recently included the Caribbean Climate Justice Alliance, the Caribbean Youth Climate Justice Coalition, GirlsCARE, International Women's Rights Action Watch (IWRAW), the International Women's Coffee Alliance (IWCA), and the NextGeneration Youth Climate Board. Jhannel Tomlinson has also been afforded the opportunity to represent Jamaica at the United Nations, the Conference of Parties (COP), and other climate-related conferences to showcase my research and experience working in the field. For her work in climate advocacy, she was awarded the Prime Minister's National Award for Environmental Protection and was recognized as a 50 Next Global Trailblazing Activist. As she continues her work in the space, Jhannel Tomlinson remains committed to understanding and addressing the particular challenges faced by women, girls, and other underrepresented groups in the fight for climate justice.
