From November 27 - December 15, CFA-SF conducted a student survey regarding the drastic course/section cuts at SFState. Each response has been verified by student ID, and students were able to opt out of having their comments shared publicly.
With 701 responses, including 364 written comments, the survey is an alarming look at the damage inflicted on programs and the detrimental effects on students' education, career goals, mental and emotional health, and financial situations.
Our students are learning some hard lessons: that many of their most cherished teachers are lecturer faculty who won't be back in Spring '24, that the programs they came to SFState for are being gutted, and that finishing college is going to be extremely difficult if not impossible for them.
But they also know that we are fighting for and alongside them. The survey comments reflect a strong bond of trust and care between students and faculty. SFSU administration didn't bother to ask students about their experiences, but we know that their voices are our best guide—and we will do everything in our power to protect their right to a quality education.
