The western Massachusetts chapter of SfN existed previously, focused on the 5 Colleges in the Pioneer Valley, but became inactive. The chapter was reincorporated in 2015 (Link to Bylaws), and has recently been renamed the Central & Western MA Chapter to better reflect the community we engage and serve throughout central and western Massachusetts and the region at large.
Membership in the national organization, the Society for Neuroscience, is not required to join or participate in Chapter activities.
The Central & Western Massachusetts Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience has been formed to promote neuroscience research, education and outreach in central and western Massachusetts. More specifically, the Chapter exists:
to facilitate networking and collaboration via talks, workshops, panels, and more.
to engage trainees and early‑career scientists through mentorship, poster sessions, and outreach events.
to promote awareness of neuroscience within Central & Western Massachusetts communities.
to advance understanding of the nervous system, its function or disease
to promote dissemination of knowledge regarding neuroscience within our institutions and to the general public
