UPCOMING SPEAKERS resumes 2026
February 2026: In lieu of the February 2026 guest speaker, Cessnock U3A has locked in Harry Kavadas from 'Seniors, Tech and Tea' to give members a presentation on Thursday 5 February 2026 from 10am-12pm at the Cessnock Library Meeting Room on the topic of "Maximising Your Smartphone and Tablet". The presentation is approximately 1.5 hours with 30 minutes at the end for questions to Harry. The venue comfortably seats 25 so please reply "ATTENDING" to the distributed email to members if you intend to come to ensure adequate seating is available to accommodate everyone coming.

March 2025 - Kristy Kuiper, A/Senior Case Management Officer, Shortland Correctional Centre, Corrective Services NSW, provided an overview of the work they do with offenders in custody, focusing on how we promote a positive transition back into the community and the role the community can play in supporting people leaving custody.

November 2024 - Historian, Ed Tonks has spent a life time researching the history of the South Maitland coalfields along with the history of local hotels.
Ed's Bellbird Mine Disaster talk in August was very well received by members and guests who were keen to hear of other interesting historical facts. Ed has been invited in November back to talk about the history of pubs in the Hunter.
October 2024 - Mr Allen Barr
Title of talk will be ‘A History of Potions, Powders and Murderous Practitioners’ which will cover the use of poisons from the Medieval Courts of Europe to the Kremlin today.
This is quite a lively presentation which members should find interesting.
September 2024 Fortress Newcastle: Life Under Threat (film: Stories of Our Town)
August 2024 - Ed Tonks historian has spent a life time researching the history of the South Maitland coalfields along with the history of local hotels. Ed spoke about the Bellbird Mine Disaster of 1913, with facts that are not readily known.
