The Environmental Protection Agency reported in 2018 that 11.3 million tons of textiles ended up in U.S. landfills, causing the release of 6 million tons of methane gas(0.87% of total emissions). According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in 2022, Methane contributed to ground-level ozone production which caused the premature deaths of around 500,000 people around the world, 4,350 (.87%) of which, can be attributed to Methane release from textiles in landfills.

My name is Cesar Javalera. I am currently a senior at Chapin High School in El Paso, Texas, where I'm enrolled in the Pre-Engineering Magnet Program. I will be graduating this June. Afterwards, I will be attending the University of Texas at El Paso in the fall of 2023, where I will be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. I have always been interested in the technical aspect of things, which is why I want to pursue a career in Engineering.
