• Presentation of the Spirit of the Grasslands Award

$12 per person.

Protecting Pronghorns

 Display

July 24 through 

September 24, 2026

Natural History Institute Lobby

Tuesday – Friday, noon to 4:00 p.m.

This display, created by CAWA, will be in the lobby of the Natural History Institute for two months, from July 24th through September 24th. The institute hours are Tuesday – Friday, noon to 4:00 p.m.

Join us on opening night, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 24th, as part of the 4th Friday Art Walk (https://www.artthe4th.com/).

CAWA members will be there to share information about our work to protect pronghorns and other local wildlife, our field outings, volunteer projects, and a wildlife survey app to record wildlife sightings.

After July 24th, you can tour our display during regular visiting hours at the Natural History Institute, Tuesdays through Fridays from noon to 4 p.m.

Whether you are curious about some of the fun facts about pronghorns (like how they got that name or how fast they can run) or want to learn about the new wildlife crossing over Interstate 17, this is your opportunity to delve into the world of pronghorns.

We consider this special Yavapai County resident the “spirit of the grasslands.” The opportunity to see pronghorns in their natural habitat is one of the things that makes living in our area unique.

Fence Modification Projects

 Hosted by Prescott National Forest 

We look forward to another opportunity to join the Prescott National Forest crew and members of the Yavapai Trails Association to raise bottom fence wires to allow pronghorns to pass under. The February project day was educational and successful.

We're participating in the second phase of the Town of Prescott Valley's Wildlife Corridor Plan as a member of a focus group to learn about various planning, partnership, funding, and policy tools that can help progress the wildlife corridor vision.

Pronghorn-focused Field Trip

 Grasslands of Chino Valley

On September 20, 2025, participants learned about grassland ecology, water, the Peavine Trail, local history, and relevance to the Upper Verde River.
