Author Guidelines

Language:

Authors are highly encouraged to submit manuscripts in English; however, manuscripts submitted to the research cluster editorial board will be accepted in Russian, Kazakh,Tajiki, and Uzbek. A limited amount of funding will be available to provide translation and editing services for authors after the peer review process and before submission to a journal or the collective work.

Word Count:

Manuscripts of 3,500 to 8,000 words will be accepted for the collective volume. We advise authors to plan to write around 6,000 words in the body of their work. Manuscripts greatly exceeding this amount of words may need to be edited for brevity.

Conventions:

• Manuscripts should be free of major grammatical errors. We understand that many scholars may not be used to publishing in English, and so initial manuscripts will be reviewed with this issue in mind.

• Footnotes should be cited in Chicago Manual of Style 17^th edition style. Footnotes may be created using an in-text citation system during the initial review, but authors should be prepared to convert all citations to Chicago Manual of Style format if their manuscript is accepted for publication.

• Place names should be written consistently throughout the paper. Refer to Webster’s for guidance.

• Individuals should be introduced with first and last name. After that, authors may refer to individuals by last name only.

• Dates should be formatted as month name, day, year, i.e. May 13, 2022.

• Non-English language words should be transliterated according to Library of Congress transliteration guidelines (https://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/roman.html).

Other Guidelines:

• Submitted articles should not have been previously published in any language or format. Manuscripts accepted in the research cluster may not be published elsewhere.

• Manuscripts should be relevant to the cluster theme.

• Manuscripts should be anonymous, with no self-identifying information.

Image Guidelines:

• Images may be included as necessary.

• Graphs, tables, maps, and charts may be included in the body of the text. Resolution should be around 300 dpi.

• Black & White images should be included in an appendix.

Submission Process:

Submissions should be emailed to CentralAsiaResearchCluster@gmail.com. Authors should include a separate cover page with their name(s), contact information, total word count (with and without footnotes), 150-word paper abstract, and 75-word author biography. A separate cover page is necessary so that the editorial board can blind peer review manuscripts.
