The Nurse Honor Guard is a way to pay tribute to the nurse at the time of their death, by performing the Nightingale Tribute at the funeral ,memorial service, or a final living tribute. This service is similar to one of the military's and officially releases a nurse from their nursing duties.
The Nursing Honor Guard wears the traditional white uniform, cap and is completed with a cape and white gloves . The ceremony is brief, it takes about 5 minutes. It starts with reciting the Nightingale tribute, followed by laying a white rose on the casket or urn, symbolizing the nurses dedication to the profession. The ringing of the triangle in the Nightingale Tribute is for the roll call of the nurse, after the three unanswered calls to service that symbolizes that the nurse is officially released from their duties. A Nightingale lamp is lit at the beginning of the ceremony and then extinguished and presented to the family for their keepsake.
