The CELA Symphonia Instrumental Music Wishlist

Charlotte East Language Academy (CELA) is a K-8 full Spanish immersion magnet school in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system in Charlotte, NC. The school host a student body that primarily consists of Hispanic and Latino students. The instrumental music program (band & orchestra) at CELA is growing each year. As we grow, our inventory needs to grow as well to ensure that every student has the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. Currently, over half of the sixth grade students are enrolled in band or orchestra. Below are links to our wish lists through various entities. At the bottom of the page you can see descriptions of some of the planned projects for your donations.

Donors Choose

We have a number of Donors Choose projects available. They are listed below.

Our Adopt A Classroom donor's page is for building a fund to purchase shared and larger instruments that can cost more than the average beginner instruments. These instruments include a proper bass drum stand, various percussion instruments and accessories, as well as alto saxophones.

The Walmart Wishlist includes items for the classroom, such as stools for the Chromebook area (above), as well as some beginner level instruments our future students can use in class.

The Amazon Wishlist includes items for the classroom, such as stools for the Chromebook area (above), as well as some beginner level instruments our future students can use in class.

This is our Wishlist for instruments from Music & Arts. This instruments will help build our inventory, allowing more students the opportunity to learn without having to purchase an instrument.

OUR PROJECTS

Student Instruments

The instrumental music program (band & orchestra) at CELA is growing each year. As we grow, our inventory needs to grow as well to ensure that every student has the opportunity to learn a musical instrument. Currently, over half of the sixth grade students are enrolled in band or orchestra. As a public school we do not receive much funding for growing our instrument inventory and many of the students at CELA cannot afford to purchase their own instruments. It is my hope to one day offer a school-use instrument to any student that wishes to participate. This year we saw a tremendous leap in instrumental music enrollment; 41 of the 55 sixth graders are enrolled in either band or orchestra! Interest in music performance is very high at CELA.

Expanding the Percussion

Like the student instruments, the school was provided some percussion instruments when we opened five years ago. With a large number of students interested in learning percussion, this section needs more equipment. We need a proper bass drum stand, more practice pads, and more mallet instruments.

A fund for the larger instruments can be found in the Adopt-a-Classroom link.

Smaller percussion instruments can be found in the Music & Arts wishlist and in Donors Choose.

Chromebook Corner

Some of the work students do is on their Chromebooks. Because the instrumental classroom is not the traditional setting with desks, a comfortable work area is needed. The music chairs are designed for creating the ideal playing posture, but are uncomfortable for regular use. We have tables, but stools and other seating options are needed. We also have a need for classroom headphones so students can listen to music examples and pitch/rhythm exercises.

These items can be found in the Donors Choose, Walmart,& Amazon wishlist links.
