团队当前的一条核心研究主线是 SPD Matrix Learning(对称正定矩阵学习)。
数学基础与几何方法:分析学、微分几何、拓扑学、矩阵分析与优化理论;
人工智能方法:几何机器学习、表示学习、生成模型与跨域泛化;
Our group is recruiting undergraduate interns, master’s and PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, R&D engineers, and research assistants. The earliest PhD intake is Spring 2027.
We study mathematical and algorithmic problems at the intersection of AI, brain-computer interfaces, and neuroimaging.
A central theme of our work is SPD Matrix Learning, where we combine differential geometry, optimization, and machine learning to model structured neural data such as covariance and connectivity matrices.
Current interests include:
Geometric AI; Brain-computer interfaces and neural decoding; Neuroimaging and functional connectivity.
Our goal is to develop mathematically principled methods and test them on real neural data.
For representative projects and publications, please see the Research page.
I value important problems, original ideas, technical depth, and complete research stories more than publication count.
I encourage students to work deeply on a small number of meaningful problems, understand both their mathematical structure and practical constraints, and gradually develop independent research judgment.
I do not encourage fragmented projects or chasing trends simply for faster publication. A strong paper that genuinely moves a problem forward is often more valuable than several loosely connected papers.
Students will receive training in areas such as:
Differential geometry and matrix analysis; Optimization and machine learning; Neural signal and neuroimaging analysis; Algorithm implementation and experimental design; Academic writing and research communication.
Students are encouraged to develop their own research questions and independent directions.
Our group collaborates with researchers at Inria, Stanford University, Nanyang Technological University, and deep-tech companies in China. We also benefit from the international environment of CUHK-Shenzhen and Shenzhen’s strong technology ecosystem.
We welcome applicants from mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science, automation, biomedical engineering, and related fields.
Strong mathematical foundations, independent thinking, and the ability to learn are more important than prior experience in BCI or neuroimaging.
Our current academic focus is not on hardware design, communication systems, or traditional software engineering. Applicants from these backgrounds are welcome if they wish to move toward mathematical modeling, machine learning, or neural data analysis.
Please email the following materials to my university address with the subject:
Position/Program + Name + University/Organization; CV, including education and research/project experience; Short research statement, describing your interests, why you would like to join the group, and relevant experience. Transcript and ranking information for student applicants.
For student applicants, strong performance in mathematics and core technical courses is especially important. Applicants in the top 10% of their cohort or major are preferred. If you are outside this range, please briefly explain your background and provide other evidence of research potential. If your university does not provide rankings, simply state this.
Ranking is only one factor. We also consider research experience, independent thinking, technical foundations, and research fit.
If you enjoy understanding difficult problems deeply and developing original methods, I would be happy to hear from you.
