The Coast and Environment Graduate Organization (CEGO) is the graduate student organization representing all graduate students in the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences (DOCS) and Environmental Sciences (ENVS). CEGO is dedicated to enriching the graduate student experience within the College of the Coast and Environment (CCE) by building a strong, inclusive, and supportive community where students can connect, collaborate, and thrive.
Graduate school is more than research and coursework, it is also about finding community, developing professional connections, sharing ideas, and creating lasting relationships. CEGO strives to foster that sense of community by providing opportunities for graduate students across disciplines to come together, exchange knowledge, and support one another throughout their academic and professional journeys.
Through professional development opportunities, networking events, seminars, local outreach initiatives, travel grants, and social activities, CEGO works to expand students’ academic and professional horizons while encouraging meaningful connections beyond individual research groups and disciplines. These programs provide students with opportunities to strengthen their scientific communication and leadership skills, engage with the broader coastal and environmental community, and share their work with diverse audiences.
CEGO also serves as a platform for graduate student voices, helping foster communication and collaboration among students, faculty, and the wider CCE community. By encouraging interdisciplinary interaction and creating spaces for students to connect both professionally and socially, CEGO aims to make graduate school a more collaborative, welcoming, and rewarding experience for everyone.
At its core, CEGO is about community, supporting one another, celebrating each other’s accomplishments, creating opportunities for growth, and building connections that extend beyond graduate school. Whether through a seminar, outreach event, conference opportunity, travel grant, or simply a social gathering with fellow students, CEGO seeks to create an environment where every graduate student can feel connected, supported, and empowered to succeed.
Stay connected with the latest happenings across LSU campus and the College of the Coast and Environment. CEGO’s monthly newsletter brings graduate students important announcements, upcoming events, professional development opportunities, and community updates, all in one place.
