WELCOME BACK SMARTEST ARTISTS!

Below are links to online art projects you can try at home AND pictures of art work we are currently working on at Cedar Ridge Elementary! Please send me pictures of anything you try at home! Email me at charlottehawkins@alpinedistrict.org and I will post your art work here! Be brave, "make a mark and see where it takes you!" I LOVE MY ART FRIENDS!

Become a supporter of the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Foundation.

We are a Beverly Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Grant School!

What does that mean? Our school receives special grant and legislative monies provided in part by the Beverly Taylor Sorenson Foundation. This money helps to fund the salaries of visual arts, dance, music and drama teachers in over 400 schools statewide, schools which wouldn't have access to those specialty teachers otherwise!

You can support your art teacher by becoming a friend to the BTSALP program and asking your state representatives to keep funding this program at Cedar Ridge! The BTS Foundation does NOT solicit money, just your vocal support!

What's new in Room 102?

Biomes in a Bottle: Decomposers, Consumers and Producers

All of these things exist in the biomes of Utah: our wetlands, our mountain forests, and our deserts. We made layered cut outs of all of the things that exist in each habitat. Can you see all of the elements? What about the energy source for our planet? Thanks Mr. Willmore's class, you guys are AWESOME ARTISTS!!!

CELEBRATING DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

Second graders studied the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and read the book, Martin's Big Words by Doreen Rappaport with Caldecot award winning illustrations by Bryan Collier. We looked at his life and work and honored him by painting his portrait. Oliver and Hinckley have done such a wonderful job capturing his likeness!

Lost in time and SPACE. Sixth graders have spent the last few weeks creating their view of the solar system. Can you see Charlotte's view of Earth? What about the astronaut pet walk? Or the Mars Rover? Sixth grade is OUT OF THIS WORLD!

It's FALL Y'ALL!

First grade is working hard studying the effects of temperature and weather on trees, and guess what? Here in Cedar Hills the leaves are changing! We're studying leaves and painting fabulous fall watercolor paintings! Click on the K-3 projects under the art tab for instructions on how to make your own fall painting!

Second grade went for a nature walk and observed the changing weather patterns and how it affects plants. One thing we noticed was LEAVES falling and blowing on the ground. We picked some and turned them into burnished foil rubbings. Aren't they beautiful?

The Magical Yet

We read the book The Magical Yet, by Angela DiTerizzi. It's about the possiblities of Yet and overcoming challenges and learning things with the help of a magical companion.

Open the K-3 Art Lessons link to learn how to make your own Yet out of clay or Play doh!

Third Grade aren't sculptors? Yet!

6th Grade are collecting data to make ART?

They asked a question, collected results and turned their questions into artistic results!!!!!

In the picture on the left below, Em asked "How many joke do people make in a day?" She kept track of each joke she heard in one day, and made scrap squares to show how many jokes she heard!!!! WOWZA!

In the picture on the right Abigail asked "What type of trash is out on the playground at lunch?" She made scraps of paper to place on her beautiful school yard painting for paper and plastic! Isn't it AMA

Mr. Willmore's 6th grade class were observers of the world and data collecting scientists...

Kaelani asked the question, "How many different kinds of animals do I see in a day?" She then drew a mixed up colorful animal the colors represent each type she saw in one day. DO YOU SEE THE KEY? It tells us how to interpret this awesome picture!!!!

Can you Bee-lieve it? 4th graders are AMAZING ARTISTS!

This year 4th Grade will learn all about UTAH, the 'Beehive State', so we celebrated our great state by printing bees and honeycomb! Can you guess what we used to make those small circles? I'll bet you have some in your house!!!

Stormy Weather: Painting the Changes in Season

Third grade students have been studying weather patterns and noticed changes in our weather here in Utah. We have been painting stormy autumn skies and the changing trees that are common in our area. Can you see the storm coming? Better get a jacket on!

Utah's National Parks

Fifth Grade has been creating watercolor wax resists of Utah's Big Five National Parks: Bryce Canyon, Arches, Zion, Capitol Reel and Canyonlands. We found geological examples of weathering land formations, and created paintings.
