About me
I am a Professor of Economics at the University of Valencia, where I hold an endowed “ad personam” Jean Monnet Chair in Economic Integration from the European Commission. I am also a research affiliate of the INTECO UV-UJI joint research unit.
Previously, I served as Senior Fellow at the Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania), Senior Advisor to the Spanish Prime Minister’s Office, and invited professor at the University of Nottingham. I have also been a visiting scholar several times at the Universities of Goettingen, Harvard, Cornell and held a “Robert Schuman Scholar” position at the Research Directorate of the European Parliament in Luxembourg.
My research focuses on Monetary and Fiscal Integration, International Trade, and Macroeconometrics. My work has appeared in journals such as the European Economic Review, Oxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Banking and Finance, Macroeconomic Dynamics, Economic Inquiry, or Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization. I served as advisory editor for Springer's journal Environmental Modeling and Assessment.
I earned an MA in European Economics from the College of Europe (Bruges, Belgium) and a PhD with honors from the University of Valencia. I have been consultant to the Spanish Ministry of Economy, HM Treasury, and the European Commission, and a member of the WES group of experts (CESifo) and the Euro Area Business Cycle Network (ECB).
Between 1998 and 2003, I served as President of the Spanish Association of International Economics and Finance (AEEFI-IEFS), and from 2006 to 2009, as President of the Advisory Committee in Economics at the National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activity (CNEAI). From 2006 to 2014, I served successively as Vice-President and President of the Asociación Libre de Economía (ALdE), where I am now an honorary fellow.
I currently sit on the advisory council (Kuratorium) of the Ibero-America Institute for Economic Research at the University of Goettingen, the advisory board of the Unit on Economic Complexity and Economics (UECE) at ISEG-University of Lisbon and on the Board of INFER (International Network of Economic Research).
