Programs and Activities
Cecil B. Moore Library offers programming and activities for children, adults, and families. We offer several after school programs that occur during the week and on Saturday. Check the program schedules below.
LEAP
Free Library of Philadelphia Literacy Enrichment After-school Program provides homework assistance, computer literacy, library skills, and enrichment programs for school age children and teens in grades 1 through 12.
In addition to the homework & computer help, LEAP provides a planned weekly cultural or educational activity and weekly computer or other technology activity. LEAP is an open, drop-in program, no registration is necessary. Schedule: Mon-Thu 3:00-6:00PM, Sat 1:00-5:00PM, September through June

Maker Jawn
Maker Jawn aims to provide a unique space for community members in North Philadelphia Free Libraries, where self-directed experimental and experiential learning is promoted through a focus on creativity, critical thinking and skill-building. . . . Makerspaces are learning environments dedicated to project-based learning through making and tinkering with materials and tools. Those that enter a Makerspace as a creator are referred to as Makers. Makerspaces are generally equipped for Makers to experiment with creative technology and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) projects, but also aim to teach problem-solving, resilience, collaboration and other 21st Century Skills. These spaces encourage Makers to self-motivate and engage with the world as a changeable space.

Words at Play
Vocabulary Initiative-- Words at Play Vocabulary Initiative is a community-wide, grant-funded initiative taking place at Cecil B. Moore and Widener libraries, both located in North Philadelphia, west of Broad Street. The grant’s focus is families with children ages birth to 5 years. Through playing, singing, and reading at “Play Parties”, families will discover new ideas to help strengthen their child’s vocabulary while playing with their children. Schedule: Varies
