The Community Education Council for District 27 (CEC 27) represents families, students, and schools across the communities of Queens, New York.
We work in partnership with the New York City Department of Education to ensure that parent voices are heard in shaping the educational experience of every child in our district. Our council meets regularly to discuss policies, review educational data, and collaborate with school leaders to support academic success and equity across all schools in District 27.
CEC 27 plays an important role in helping parents and the DOE work together effectively. Our main responsibilities include:
🗣️ Parent Engagement – Strengthening communication between families, schools, and district leadership.
🧭 Policy Review – Reviewing and commenting on educational programs, zoning proposals, and district planning initiatives.
🤝 Advocacy – Representing the needs and perspectives of District 27 families in citywide education discussions.
🏫 Collaboration – Working closely with Superintendents, Principals, and Parent Coordinators to support every student’s success.
📅 Public Meetings – Hosting monthly meetings open to the public to share updates, hear community concerns, and discuss district priorities.
The Community Education Council operates under bylaws established in accordance with the New York City Department of Education Chancellor’s Regulations.
