“长安十二时辰”剧情跌宕起伏,其逻辑性,可争议的地方多。因为是连续剧,进程慢,不紧凑。因其他方面的趣味,颇可看。
7世紀唐代的故事,裡面頗有一些現代概念。唐代中國真有如此先進嗎?還是因其為21世紀的著作?其間有無限想像。
“靖安司”是長安警備衙門。各處設瞭望塔,全城監控。没有电话,靠鼓聲,旗語,冲天彩色烟炮,和快遞。
靖安司有立體的”谷歌地圖“,全城分區各有詳細立體圖版,隨時抽調查閱。
“大數據”在唐代,叫“大案牍術”。用於查案破案。
皇家與少數富貴人家,建有”自雨殿/自雨亭“,炎熱夏季啟動,引山泉流過屋頂,達到室內降溫目的,水順屋簷流下,又可觀雨。舊唐書載,當時拜占庭帝國宮庭有此建築,故此項技術也可能自外國引進。
”长安十二时辰“的盛唐长安,世界之都,东西人文荟萃。东洋人,西洋人,中亚人,黄人,白人,黑人,在长安居民中各有相当大的比例。各有各的群居区,有如现代洛杉矶情况。剧中有穆斯林,和基督教徒的元素。当时基督教称”景教“,教堂称”景寺“,传教士称”景僧“。这两教人士众多,其长老在长安官府都有影响力。
果真事实如此,羅馬帝國與中國的科技文化交流,自有可能。

“Parasite” shows up in the world film market like a blinding supernova in the sky - so amazingly good and so unexpectedly. It already won award after award worldwide. 2020 Oscars are to be announced soon, and “Parasite” right now looks more than promising.
It’s a comedy and a mystery, as well as a drama - full of sarcasm, with an unlikely story, yet quite possible in a society with a huge divide between the rich and the poor behind the shining economy of South Korea. During showing, uncontrollable laughter roared out in theater from time to time. At other times, the movie was so intense the audience literally held their breaths. When it’s all over, the audience hardly noticed it was a long movie of 2 hour and 12 minutes.
With all its humor and entertainment, the movie contains a serious social issue common in many so-called rich countries, including the U.S., that needs be addressed with urgency.

“Ford v Ferrari”, 2019

In addition to being a daredevil, a race car driver must know the ins-and-outs, in fact, every detail of a race car mechanically and physically. It’s not unusual that a good race car driver is also a race car designer. Moreover, he/she must possess the skill, and know when/how to optimize the knowledge and skill to outmaneuver the opponents. In other words, a race car driver needs to be super intelligent.
These were how much I learned from watching this movie. Needless to say, the directing and casting are super. The movie also tells a super good story - a real story, supposedly, where adrenalines are gushing from the beginning to end.
“Ford v Ferrari”, the movie title, should really be “Ford Challenged Ferrari” in the Le Mans - the world premium race track. Dared the utilitarian Fords challenge the King Ferrari in racing? Unthinkable, perhaps! Even though the result of the “Americans-Feel-Good” ending can be easily guessed, it indeed turned out to be an Americans-Feel-Great story, nonetheless, of which the ending was not entirely expected.

Moving script, masterful production, excellent cast, and a fair amount of drama - albeit you have watched countless number of episodes on TV already. If, however, you have hardly watched Downton on TV, this movie production itself is whole and complete. And it is a feel-good story, where all principal characters are endearing and appropriately portrayed. Moreover, watching this movie was like walking into a warm room on a cold winter day. It was that warm-hearted and enjoyable.
The way the aristocratic Crawley Family in England transitioned itself from the 19th century to the 20th, mirrored how the British Empire was struggling adjusting its decline from its superpower heyday at the time. The Crawleys realized all the inevitables, yet were working very hard to hold down to its decency.
A good education, the viewers got to learn so much about that part of the British history. The social order established in the great Victorian era served the British well, especially its upper crust of aristocrats. One could also tell that social order couldn’t last forever, because that kind of extravagant British life was possible only because of the Empire’s power and wealth, which were dependent upon its vast Colonial world. That world was diminishing year after year.

在偶然地機會裡,我闖進了兩小時長的帶有中文字幕的韓國電影《金氏漂流记2009》。讓我自己感到驚訝的是我不停地坐了兩個小時。我已經好久沒有在電影院看電影了,我的筆記本電腦就是我的私人劇院。由於它的靈活性,我通常會看一下休息一下,也許花兩三天看完,也許就永遠不…..。

By accident, I ran into “Castaway on the Moon 2009”, a two hours long South Korean movie with Chinese subtitle. I surprised myself by sitting through the two hours uninterrupted. I haven’t been watching movie in public for ages and my laptop is my private theater. Due to its flexibility, I usually take many breaks and finished the movie in two or three days, …. or never.
This is a movie classified under the category of romantic comedy. I think this is a mistake in categorization, or it is the very sign of my getting too old and out of touch. Anyway, start from the beginning, you might mistake this is another modern day “Robinson Crusoe on an island” movie and you think you understand the reason why it is classified as comedy. Then, alternating between two seemingly unrelated and parallel extremes, a bizarre relationship developed. I guess it is this type of screenplay shaping that attracted my attention. This is a two-person show and they occupy virtually all narrative space. Other characters simply appear and disappear briefly just to connect the dots.
OK, OK, I’ve heard your complaint’ Yes, I haven’t touched anything about the story lines. But that is exactly my intention to not to spoil your enjoyment of watching the movie. Everyone is entitled to interpret their own feeling and draw their own conclusion.
If there is anything in this script that I want to change, I will draw an end before the 2nd Air defense drill. Don’t understand? Go watch and figure it out! --HS

Luciano Pavarotti, 1935 - 2007, was a gift to this world. His voice and singing graced mankind like no one before. Throughout his life, he was true to himself and never changed. Boyish, charming, generous, and love of life, he affected many souls.
Ron Howard did a wonderful biopiece in presenting Pavarotti from his youth to his death. Pavarotti, born a genius, was never formally schooled in singing. The movie climaxed when he and the two other tenors, Domingo, and Carreras, together with conductor Zubin Mehta presented their Three Tenors Concert. It was a meeting of minds of the four masters. There were no jealousy or competition among them toward one another in that occasion. In fact, there was no pre-prepared program. On the spot, they each decided what piece to sing. Due to their appreciation of each other, everyone was able to bring out his own best, ever. The atmosphere in that concert was electric with sparks in the air. The audience was mesmerized and roared with passion. Watching this occasion on screen, this viewer was moved to tears - with great joy.
In fact, watching the entire movie was a joyride.

這部電影沒有華麗的情節,節奏緩慢而幾乎有些沉悶,父子的對話也都是淡淡的。 但是沿途那一大片美麗的山野,簡單而勤奮的小人物,人與人之間微妙的情感,卻牢牢吸引住人們的目光,輕輕挑動了心中的一根弦。一對父子鄉村郵差,有年輕人和老年人的代溝,有事業和責任的傳承,有父子之間的感情,淳樸,簡單,真挚,細膩,而暖心。
小時侯曾在彰化鄉下呆過,對筆者來説,那影片中一路的山野風景和鄉村氣息,確實帶來了一些似曾相識的感覺。

在第一集中,由於編劇和導演的高明,唐明皇,貴妃,李白.......等人雖未露面,都被感觉到。
虚構是虛構,为达到真实感,据说:制片将所有场景和各大小人物妝扮,均尽量接近真实唐代规格。製片可能遵循孔夫子教訓:”禮失而求諸京都”。電影多處佈景與京都相似。(京都古門中更有所謂”唐門“,都可能傳自中國。)
唐風,唐味,正是此劇引人之處。

A young working couple living in a cramped Santa Monica quarter decided to break out for an idyllic farm life in countryside. Idealistic, yes. Real expertise, no. Their dedication to a healthy environment only makes their pursue so much harder.
Would the two dreamers succeed? Watch the movie to follow their ups and downs, joys and heartbreaks, failures and successes, while enjoying the rollercoaster ride.
The movie is very educational and poignant. Viewers get to learn how reality and idealism can co-exist well - with determination. This can still be a wonderful world.

A charming Indian film with a slow-developing love story unfolding in the present-day Mumbai. Filmed in the thick of Indian culture, this movie is especially interesting, even exotic, for viewers living and breathing in the American, or western, society.
Unlike any of the Bollywood movies, this film is authentically Indian, in which viewers are taught a lot of things beside love in the Indian culture - caste system, ethics, family structures, metropolitan life, even economics.
In India today, marriage is still a thing largely arranged by parents. Or, many parents still think they have the right and obligation to arrange for their children’s marriages, whether children agree or not is something else.
Is there a happy ending? Well, in the Indian culture, expression of love is subtle, ambiguous, and sometimes intangible. So is the ending of the movie. One thing is definite, there are so much for viewers to contemplate afterwards. And that is a beautiful thing.

江湖 is literally rivers and lakes. It means the underground societies existed in the fringe of laws with their own code of honor, as well as rules and ethics. 江湖儿女 means men and women of these underground societies. Ash is Purest White refers to everything burned into purest white ashes during the high temperature of a volcanic eruption. The movie has its setting in a coal town near a volcano that erupted a thousand years ago, where ash is still purest white. The heroine in the movie (Zhao) was reborn from ashes through a “volcanic eruption” in her life - very much like 浴火重生 in the Chinese culture.
Poignant, realistic, of this heroine’s story. It told how she, find her strong will, evolved into leadership. She hustled through hardship by perseverance, wit, hustling and iron will, while her man failed and faded away.
The film is also a documentation of China’s development and transformation in the last 20 years - from rags to riches. In other words, when country changed, society changed and, accordingly, people changed - not necessarily to the better.

The Wandering Earth (流浪地球) is a 2019 Chinese science fiction film directed by Frant Gwo, based on the novella of the same name by Locus Award and Hugo Award-winning author Liu Cixin. It stars Qu Chuxiao, Li Guangjie, Ng Man-tat, Zhao Jinmai, Wu Jing and Qu Jingjing. The film was theatrically released on 5 February 2019 (Chinese New Year's Day), by China Film Group Corporation, followed by North America and Australia on February 8, 2019.
It is a box office success, grossing more than $600 million in China. It is China's second highest-grossing filmof all time, 2019's highest-grossing film worldwide, and one of the top 20 highest-grossing science fiction films of all time. It has received generally positive reviews from critics, with The Hollywood Reporter describing it as "China's first full-scale interstellar spectacular". Netflix has acquired the film's global streaming rights.

Exquisite, lively, interesting, educational, mesmerizing, inspiring, and with excellent narrations (in Chinese). Each segment is about 5 minutes long, and easy to digest. The first item is more than 6000 years old, for example. This video project is still ongoing. Click the link above for the first segment of the first volume.

As late as 1960s, especially in the south, America was still a country of racial discrimination. Despite the hostile environment, Don Shirley (Ali), a black, was raised and groomed in an aristocratic environment and became a world renowned classical pianist. By invitation, he was to tour several Southern Cities for piano recitals.
Tony Lip (Mortensen), an Italian American street hustler and bouncer in New York, was hired to to be the driver and bodyguard for Shirley.
With such contrasting roles, you got the idea of a good story. But what would such a story have anything to do with the Green Book? What was a Green Book?
The Green Book was a short for “The Negros Motorists Green Book” written by Victor Green. In those years it was a guidebook for negro motorists to find hotels and restaurants that would accept them! I am sure there are many people like me who knew nothing about the existence of the Green Book - until this movie. A great lesson on American history!
With two racially and culturally opposite characters, combustion sparked easily. On their extended road trip together, how did they manage to get along? In the racially poisonous South, it was impossible for the innocent Dr. Shirley to survive by himself alone. Was Tony Lip able to provide the protection Shirley needed? Would he, an uneducated white street hustler, be willing to risk his own life to protect him, a negro classical musician of high culture? Did they finally understand each other better? I’ll leave everything to you to find out in this movie. It was a moving drama with great intensity, plus award-winning performances.
By the way, the movie was based on a book written by Tony Lip about his own real experience. How did the uneducated Tony, a street hustler, become a writer? How was he transformed? Did the transformation have anything to do with his Southern Sojourn together with Dr. Shirley?

It’s a happy and loving family of 3 generations which survived on shoplifting mainly. Are they criminals? Ironically, they probably did more good than bad for the society by “rescuing” abandoned or runaways, and “adopting” them into the family. Starting with the matriarch, none in the family is blood-related, and none coerced to join.
Eventually, lawmen broke the ring. With the head of the family in jail, the family broke apart. What then happened to the grandmother, or to the children?
A very moving movie, indeed.
少有的佳片,你看了吗?喜欢吗?
21世纪的高科技社会里,快速高压的生活,有多少破碎家庭。而这个包容三代的小偷”家庭“,却充满了爱心与关怀。
其实,“小偷家族”不是正确的翻译。”家庭“更恰当。英文shoplift指的是在商店里“顺手牵羊”,而且这个家庭牵的羊一般都是使他们能活下去的食物和必需品。所以“小偷”也不是最正确的翻译。如何翻译更恰当?
他们是社会败类吗?在某方面他们对社会有他们特殊的贡献,因为这个家庭拯救并收容了无家可归的,离家出走的,被抛弃的,饥寒交迫的可怜人和儿童。当法律找到这个家庭之时,也是这个充满了爱心与关怀的家庭被破碎之时。
