A Kid-at-Heart Journey to Disneyland: Our First Adventure Abroad

Our first international trip as a couple was one we’ll never forget. Four action-packed days in Hong Kong were filled with fun, discovery, and plenty of moments that made us feel like kids again. From the soaring heights of Ngong Ping 360 to the magic of Disneyland, every stop was a little piece of adventure. Plus, we had the chance to travel with our close friends and our best friend Marlon, making the trip even more memorable before he migrated to Canada. Let’s take you through our whirlwind journey!

Day 1: Ngong Ping 360 &

The Cable Car Adventure

Our first day in Hong Kong kicked off with a spectacular aerial view of the city. We headed to Ngong Ping, an iconic cultural village that’s perched atop the lush hills on Lantau Island. But before exploring the village, we hopped onto the Ngong Ping 360 Cable Car. This isn’t just any cable car ride—it’s a 5.7 km journey that offers panoramic views of the South China Sea, lush green hills, and the majestic Tian Tan Buddha. As the cable car swayed gently in the air, we felt like we were floating through the clouds, leaving the bustling city behind us.

At the top, we explored Ngong Ping Village, which has a traditional Chinese architecture vibe. The walk around the area felt like stepping back in time, surrounded by quaint shops selling everything from local handicrafts to traditional Chinese teas. The highlight was definitely the Tian Tan Buddha, a towering statue that stands tall in the tranquil surroundings. Climbing the 268 steps to reach its base was a fun challenge (and we may have snapped a few too many selfies along the way).

Day 2: The Heart of Hong Kong -

Train Station and Disneyland Magic

The next day, we dove right into the urban energy of Hong Kong, starting with a visit to the Hong Kong Train Station. This place is a bustling hub, and as we walked through its sleek, modern design, we couldn’t help but be in awe of how the city fuses technology and tradition so effortlessly.

But the real magic began when we headed to Hong Kong Disneyland! I mean, what’s a trip to Hong Kong without a bit of Disney magic? Stepping onto Disneyland was like stepping into a world where you’re instantly a kid again, surrounded by fairy-tale castles, cartoon characters, and that unmistakable Disney charm.

Our first stop was to catch some Disney Character Performances—and let me tell you, meeting Mickey, Minnie, and the gang was like reuniting with old friends. It was such a joy to see the magic come alive through these performances. We didn’t miss the Festival of the Lion King, a high-energy show that brought Disney’s classic to life with breathtaking acrobatics, vibrant costumes, and, of course, the unforgettable music. "Hakuna Matata" was stuck in our heads for days!

As the evening approached, we made our way to the park’s most magical moment: Sundown at Disneyland. The atmosphere was pure wonder. The air was filled with excitement as the castle illuminated in beautiful hues, casting a warm glow on the surrounding crowds. Finally, the fireworks show above Sleeping Beauty Castle was nothing short of spectacular—a perfect end to a perfect day.

Day 3: The Peak, Sky Terrace 428, and Madame Tussauds

After the magic of Disneyland, it was time to get a different perspective of Hong Kong—literally. We took a trip to The Peak, the highest point on Hong Kong Island. The weather was perfect for a trip to the Sky Terrace 428, which is located at the top of Victoria Peak Tower. With a name like that, you can imagine the views—truly panoramic! The view over the city’s skyscrapers, the harbor, and the surrounding islands left us speechless. It’s a sight you can’t miss.

On the way down, we couldn’t resist visiting Madame Tussauds. As soon as we walked in, it felt like we were rubbing elbows with the world’s biggest stars. From the royal family to pop icons, we had a blast posing for photos with lifelike wax figures. We might’ve gone a little overboard taking silly pictures, but who could resist snapping a selfie with that famous figure?

Day 4: Mong Kok Sneaker Shopping - A Sneakerhead’s Disneyland

On our last day, we embraced the hustle and bustle of Mong Kok, one of the most vibrant areas in Hong Kong. For sneakerheads like us, this was the real Disneyland. Mong Kok is home to an entire street—Sneaker Street—dedicated to all things sneakers. From classic designs to limited-edition releases, it’s like a treasure hunt for sneaker enthusiasts. Walking through the streets, we found everything from high-end collections to funky, custom-designed kicks. We were like kids in a candy store, trying on pair after pair and talking to other passionate sneaker fans. The energy of the place was infectious, and we didn’t leave empty-handed, of course.

Wrapping Up the Magic

From the sweeping views of Ngong Ping to the dizzying heights of The Peak, and of course, the childhood joy of Disneyland, Hong Kong gave us a whirlwind adventure that we will treasure forever. Each stop was a reminder that it’s never too late to be a kid again—whether it's through watching a Disney performance, meeting your favorite characters, or shopping for the sneakers of your dreams. It was a perfect blend of fun, culture, and wonder, and we can’t wait to see where our next adventure will take us!
