Dr. Kurian Polachan, Senior Member, IEEE
Electronic systems researcher with 18 years of experience in embedded systems engineering and R&D across academia and industry. Experienced in leading the research, development, and prototyping of electronic systems, including wearable devices and cyber-physical systems. Author of 20+ peer-reviewed publications and inventor on multiple granted and filed patents.
Currently serving as an Assistant Professor at IIIT-Bangalore, leading the Connected Devices and Wearables Lab. The lab focuses on designing secure and intelligent wearable systems for next-generation healthcare and IoT applications, integrating ultra-low-power hardware, embedded edge intelligence, and hardware-rooted security.Â
Earned a Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science (2021), with research focused on tactile cyber-physical systems. Also earned an M.Tech. in Electronic Design and Technology from the Indian Institute of Science (2014). Subsequently worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Purdue University (2021–2022), focusing on ultra-low-power biomedical wearable systems.
Brings over five years of industry experience at Cypress Semiconductors (now Infineon Technologies), where work focused on embedded hardware and firmware development for capacitive touch sensing user-interface solutions and programmable system-on-chip (PSoC) platforms.
