Congratulations! Di Chen is going to join UCLA as a postdoc. She will continue to work on low-temperature electrolyzers for hydrogen production.
Duan is ranked as one of the World’s Top 2% most-cited scientists 2023 by Stanford University, according to the data shown for single recent year impact. Prof. John Ioannidis and his team from Stanford University developed an updated database, which provides the standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship-adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator.
October 2023, Di Chen has successfully passed the PhD thesis defense. Her PhD thesis entitled " Oxygen evolution reaction electrocatalysts for efficient hydrogen production in anion exchange membrane water electrolyzers ". Congratulations! Dr. Di Chen.

August 2023, Fan recieved the University Distinguished Professors (UDP) Excellence in Doctoral Studies Award. This award recognizes exceptional achievement in doctoral studies. Since 2020, Fan has published 7 high impact papers as the first author, which is a big success.
August 2023, Fan received the university traveling grant and ECS traveling grant to support him to attend the 244th ECS conference in Gothenburg, Sweden.
July 2023, Fan received the 2023-2024 Robert I-Jen and Sophia Shui-Kan Jung Graduate Scholarship in Engineering.
June 2023, Duan received the 2023 ECS HTEMP Young Investigator Award. The High-Temperature Energy, Materials, & Processes Division J. Bruce Wagner, Jr. Young Investigator Award was established in 1998 to recognize a young Society member who has demonstrated exceptional promise for a successful career in science and/or technology in the field of high-temperature energy, materials, and processes.
May 2023, Duan has received the Alumni Award for Faculty Excellence in Chemical Engineering. This award recognizes excellence in undergraduate teaching and contributions of faculty members in the department who have demonstrated their interest in and willingness to help students.
March 2023, we have renewed and received the FY2023 grant (~$200,000 in FY2023) from our industrial sponsor to develop protonic ceramic fuel cells and electrolysis cells. Look forward to making more breakthroughs in this year. Thanks for the support.
March 2023, We have another two projects selected for award by DOE Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management, totalling over $2M. The project led by K-State will focus on developing an integrated system for mitigating methane emissions from natural gas-fired lean-burn engines. I will serve as a co-PI for one project led by The University of Oklahoma, which focuses on developing emission reduction retrofit for industrial engines. We currently have four projects funded/to be funded by DOE FECM. Thanks for the great support.
February 2023, our STTR Phase II proposal with our industrial collorabotor has been selected for award, with $345,000 allocated to our lab to support the materails development. DoD Army will support the development of advanced solid oxide fuel cells for portable power sources.

December 2022, Fan Liu's paper entitled "Protonic Ceramic Electrochemical Cells for Synthesizing Sustainable Chemicals and Fuels" has been acceptted for publication at Advanced Science.
December 2022, Our team has received a grant from DOE FECM ($500,000). The team plans to design, demonstrate, and test a novel, techno-economically feasible, and process intensified system for value-added liquid chemicals (aromatics) production and simultaneous power generation from natural gas.
December 2022, We have received FY23 grant from the industry to develop novel catalysts for solid oxide fuel cells.
November 2022, Fan Liu's paper entitled "A nanocomposite catalyst for high-performance and durable intermediate-temperature methane-fueled metal-supported solid oxide fuel cells" has been acceptted for publication at ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces. We have demonstrated an internal methane reforming catalyst to significantly improve the performance and durability of direct-methane MS-SOFCs.
October 2022, Duan received the The Materials Today Energy Rising Star Award, which recognizes a researcher in the area of energy materials research within 10 years of completing their PhD who has demonstrated themselves to be the most exceptionally capable researcher with the potential to become a future leader in the field.
September 2022, Di Chen's paper entitled "Hybrid perovskites as oxygen evolution electrocatalysts for high-performance anion exchange membrane water electrolyzers" has been published at Chemical Engineering Journal. A novel set of hybrid pervoskites were demonstrated to enhance energy efficiency and reduce H2 production cost in anion exchange membrane water electrolyzers. Di Chen, Yoo Sei Park, and Fan Liu contribute equally in this work.
August 2022, Fan Liu's paper entitled "Rationally designed negative electrode for selective CO2-to-CO conversion in protonic ceramic electrochemical cells" has been accepted for publication at Nano Energy. We demonstrate a negative electrode that selectively converts CO2 to CO in protonic ceramic electrochemical cells with high energy efficiency.
August 2022, Yoo Sei Park published one research article at Applied Catalysis B: Environmental entitled "High-performance anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer enabled by highly active oxygen evolution reaction electrocatalyst: synergistic effect of doping and heterostructure". This is our first paper in the field of anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer for green and low-cost hydrogen production.
May 2022, Congratulations! Fan Liu has been selected for a 2022-2023 Robert I-Jen and Sophia Shui-Kan Jung Graduate Scholarship in Engineering. This scholarship was established by Robert I-Jen (’68 MSME) and Sophia Shui-Kan Jung to recognize outstanding engineering graduate students from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and Republic of China (ROC). Fan will receive an award of $6,000.
March 2022, Fan Liu published one research article at ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces entitled "Enhanced CO2 Methanation Activity of Sm0.25Ce0.75O2-δ–Ni by Modulating the Chelating Agents-to-Metal Cation Ratio and Tuning Metal–Support Interactions". This is our first paper in the field of heterogenous catalytsis.
