How to use flashcards effectively:
1) Make your flashcards
Put a question on one side and the answer on the back (e.g. key words, dates, formulas).
2) Set up your Leitner boxes
Use 3–5 boxes (or piles), each reviewed at different times:
Box 1: every day (new or difficult cards)
Box 2: every 2–3 days
Box 3: once a week
Box 4/5: every 2+ weeks (well-known cards)
3) Start with Box 1
All cards begin in Box 1. Test yourself by trying to recall the answer before flipping the card.
4) Move cards depending on how well you know them
Correct answer → move the card up one box (review less often)
Incorrect answer → send it back to Box 1 (review more often)
5) Let the system focus your revision
Cards you find difficult stay in Box 1 and come up often, while easier cards move up and are checked less often - helping you revise more efficiently.
