Registration is closed for season 2024-2025
Registration Date: 9/6 (Fri) - 9/13 (Fri) 9 PM
Who may register: All interested students in the 5th or 6th grades are invited to participate in Science Olympiad practices on a non-competitive, recreational basis. However, the total number of students studying an event cannot exceed the maximum student number set by the event coach.
Who will compete for the team: After the practices start, team members who will join the competition will be selected by the event coach and head coach based on a number of criteria: student experience and commitment, student diligence during practices, student participation, and team coordination. Students who are not selected are welcome to continue the practices. Team members are expected to commit the entire day on the Regional competition. Team members schedules accordingly and allocate time for practicing their assigned events during the week leading up to the Regional Comp, which coincides with a weeklong school break.
How are events assigned: Students can sign up for multiple event practices that are offered by designated coaches and within the maximum class size. Student event assignments are decided by the event coaches, head coach, and event coordinators based on team requirements, event schedule, practice schedule, and student interests. Students may not get their top choices!
The cost: Donations will be collected from students participating in practices to cover the expenses of practice kits and materials and other group activities. Donations will be made to CDM Science Olympiad. Every participating student needs to donate $100 basic fee plus $100 for each assigned build event (Wind Power; Air Trajectory; Tower; Helicopters; Mission Possible; Scrambler). At coaches' discretion, other fees for specific events may apply when necessary. Additional donations are always welcome and needed. Your employer may offer a matching donation; please request if it does. Donations need to be made prior to the start of practices. In our continued efforts to remove financial barriers to our CDM Science Olympiad program, we will set aside a small amount of Barrier-Free Fund (BFF😊😊) for families that cannot afford the donation. If you would like to apply for BFF, please communicate with the Head Coach, who will discuss this with you and collect the required proof confidentially.
