ABOUT US
CULASI DISTRICT HOSPITAL
Culasi District Hospital was established in 1959. It started its operation on March 12, 1959 as Culasi Emergency Hospital under the management Dr. Sotero Toralba as the Chief of Hospital and Mrs. Letecia Dedel Palacios as the Chief Nurse. It has total land area of 996 square meter in which the land was donated by several families of Culasi. Renovation and construction of new facilities continue as the population of municipality increases.
On June 14 of 1990, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit the town of Culasi, devastating the life of hundreds and killing 3 of that year’s populace. It caused damages and destroyed most of the community establishments, from the Schools, Municipal Hall, Churches and Hospital. Due to that event, Culasi District Hospital suffered torn down sections, shuttered windows, cracked walls and column endangering the safety of the clients and personnel. For the Facility to continue to accommodate patients and attend to clients who suffered injuries caused by the earthquake, a temporary tent was constructed in front of the main hospital building.
In 1992, by the virtue of R.A. 7237 Appropriation Act of 1992, CDH 25 bed capacity was increases to 50 licensed by the Department of Health. But after 8 years of service as a 50 bed hospital, in a health Sector Reform Agenda monography published by the DOH, the performance of provincial and district hospitals were generally described as poor implementing R.A. 7160 which mandated that provincial and district hospitals be devolved to provincial government with CDH Bed Capacity reduced back to 25.
At present, Culasi District Hospital functions as a 25-bed Level I healthcare facility and is duly accredited to Philippine Health Insurance (Philhealth) and a good standing member of Philippine Hospital Association, Inc.
