Who's next?

I am always looking for graduate students with strong programming skills (e.g., Matlab, IDL, Python, and R) for remote sensing image processing, and urban analytics with big data. Please feel free to contact me for more information. I look forward to discussing with you the possibility to work on different interesting topics.

Current Lab Members

Yuqing Huang

I am a current graduate student with interests of GIS, spatial analysis and urban geography.  I am the sole undergraduate recipient of Hsu Awards in Remote Sensing at Binghamton University in 2018.

I have participated in several projects since I joined Prof. Deng's group, including urbanization in Pearl River Delta, as well as urban tree mapping.

Tianchi Zang

I received my B.A  degree from Nanjing Tech University, China. During my time at Nanjing Tech he worked on GIS. In the sophomore year I completed the GIS Application program offered at Saint Louis University. I participated in the project of office operation of the third National Agricultural Census and a research Solution to Urban Traffic Congestion Based on Massive GPS Data. After coming to Binghamton University, I’m working on the urban expanding pattern using remote sensing images under the guidance of Professor Deng. I mastered some programming skills of C++, Python and R.

Ailing Jin

I majored in ecology when I was an undergraduate student and I am focusing on GIS and remote sensing now. I have learned how to use R and python program. My research interests are urban expansion and impervious surface change.

Huihai Wang

I am interested in programming. I ha’ve learnt how to use python and R to resolve geography related problems. Now, I am focusing on deep leaning (such as object detection and semantic segmentation) and trying to use thisnew technique for in-depth urban studies.

Yurui Zhang

I am a graduate student at Binghamton University. My research interests focus on Geographic Information Science(GIS) and remote sensing. Specifically, I am interested in analysis of urban expansion and its driving forces using remote sensing methods and GIS analysis.

Graduated 2020. Now a PhD student at  UCSB/SDSU (with full financial support).

Li Xi

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and am currently pursuing my Master’s degree at BU. During my undergraduate years at Binghamton University, I made Harpur College Dean’s List every semester and was invited to be a part of three honor societies, such as Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. I graduated with the 2016 SUNY Chancellor Award of Undergraduate Excellence and the highest honor in the Department of Geography. During my graduate career, I spent lots of time studying urban expansion in Southeast Asia using advancedremote sensing techniques.

Graduated 2019. Now a PhD student at Clark University (with full financial support).

Weiying Lin

My research interests focus on urban geography, remote sensing, and GIS. I have involved in several projects, including sub-pixel land use/land cover mapping (e.g., impervious surface), demographic information estimation in a desert city, and electricity consumption estimation at finer scales based on nighttime light imagery and social media data.

Graduated 2019. Now a PhD student at Texas A&M University (with full financial support).

Yalin Yang

I am a  Graduate Student in the Department of Geography at Binghamton University, State University of New York.   I am also a teaching assistant for three courses, including "GIS And Spatial Analysis","Intro To Geography" and "Intro GIS/Spatial Analysis". My research interests focus on Geographical Information Science (GIS),  big data, remote sensing,  and machine learning.

Graduated 2019. Now a PhD student at University of Texas at Dallas (with full financial support).

Xiaoxu Pan

My research interest is GIS and big data. Under the guidance of Professor Deng, I have participated in some  projects, such as urban heat island in Philadelphia, image classification, and urban big data analytics in New York City.

Graduated 2019.

Abraham Redie

I was a gold medal winner of Geography Department from College of Arts and Social Sciences Adi Keih, Eritrea. Currently, I am a second year graduate student in the Department of Geography at Binghamton University. My research interests focus on Human and Environmental implication  of urban landscape change, and exploration of renewable source of energy using GIS and remote sensing.

Graduated 2019.
