Overview

What camps are offered?

YPTP offers camps focused on acting, theatrical design and technical theater, and (new this year!!) music. Our camps are divided into three different age ranges. Scroll down to check out all the offerings in your child's age range.

Do the different sessions and age groups mix together at camp at all?

Absolutely! On any given week, we might have 3 or 4 different sessions happening - but we're all one big (weird, supportive, frequently singing or speaking in odd accents) group. Campers in all sessions will see each other during breaks, lunch, and games. Older campers with experience at the camp are expected to be a part of supporting younger campers as they learn the ropes. Some sessions also span multiple age ranges - in fact, enrollment for actors in the end of summer musical is open to ages 5-17!

My child has never acted/designed/sung/played an instrument before - is this a good experience for a first timer?

In almost all cases, our answer is yes! There are a couple of camps where prior experience is important, but that's mentioned very clearly in their descriptions. Many, many kids have had their very first experiences with theater here at YPTP, and our staff and long time campers are very invested in making YPTP a welcoming experience for all.

One word of warning, though - putting on a show is hard work. Campers enrolled in any performance based camps should expect to spend most of their time in rehearsal and will be expected to be taking responsibility for practicing their lines/songs/dances at home. The vast majority of the kids in our camps are there because they LOVE that and WANT to be spending their time and energy in that way. (Or because they're new to theater and music, but WANT to try it out.) If that's not something you think your kiddo would enjoy, though, we don't recommend enrolling in the performance based camps.

YPTP offers a lot of sessions - what's the best way to understand everything being offered?

The best way to look through all of our sessions is to start by looking just in the age range you're looking for. We have camps for ages 5-8, 9-12, and 13-17. Each age range has its own section below. As you look through the offerings, take a look at the right hand side of the image for each session. In that area you'll see a quick overview of important details like age group, focus (acting, music, and/or design), price, and dates.
