About the Program
DEEP MATH is an extracurricular program designed to engage high school students in hands-on activities and events to ignite their interest and passion for mathematics. Join us for a series of hands-on activities, thrilling competitions, and inspiring events throughout 2023-2024 academic year.
DEEP (Discover Enjoy Explore and Practice) MATH (Mathematics).
The DEEP MATH program is generously supported by the MAA Tensor Summa Grant.
CCSU- DEEP MATH Faculty
I am an adjunct instructor at CCSU in the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the Mathematics Department Chair at New Britain High School. In my teaching, I have always been most interested in the application of math and how mathematical thinking and problem solving are used in authentic real-life situations. When not teaching, I enjoy being outside and traveling. In the summer of 2023, I was able to spend two weeks exploring Portugal!
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. I have always been intrigued by how mathematics can explain patterns and processes in the natural sciences from physics and chemistry to biology. My research has focused on applied problems in geophysics and material science, and I have recently started exploring mathematical modeling in the life sciences. I enjoy collaborating with students on research and have co-authored two papers with undergraduate students in the past two years. In the classroom, I like to incorporate real-world applications to help students see how mathematics connects with other disciplines. When I do not teach or work on a research paper, I like hiking and exploring new places.

I am a mathematics educator with experience teaching mathematics at all levels from grades 7 to university mathematics. At CCSU, I teach many courses for future and current elementary and secondary mathematics teachers in which I use research on how we learn mathematics to help teachers design and plan classroom instruction. In my free time, I enjoy traveling with my husband, swimming and kayaking, and reading historical fiction.
