This entry level 80-hour jail program will prepare the jail officers to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with legislative and case law decisions. Topics include emergency procedures, inmate rights, inmate discipline, medical activities such as first-aid, CPR, inmate medical, inmate/cell searches, fingerprinting, self defense, and inmate supervision. Portions of this course will require physical activity and exercises in written communication. Students should bring with them those items needed to participate in these activities.
As of June 30, 2022, Certified Corrections Officers who are subsequently hired to work as Jailers will be able to apply for Jailer Certification without attending Jailer Training. The equivalency, however, does not work in the other direction. Certified Jailers will still have to attend Correction Officers Training and earn that training before working as Corrections Officers.

You are required to wear an Agency uniform and bring any required equipment.
Agency uniform or Agency issued BDU's will be the uniform of the day for Control Tactics.
Cadets will be expected to adhere to the following standards.
All Cadets:
Hairstyles that interfere with the proper wearing of any required safety equipment or any part of the required uniform, pose an officer (cadet) safety issue, or detract from a businesslike appearance will not be permitted. Unless otherwise specified, the wearing of jewelry, including earrings, while in uniform is prohibited except that cadets may wear a wedding band and a watch.
Male Cadets:
Hair must be neatly cut, with the sides and back tapered or blocked. Hair may not extend over the ears or over the uniform collar when standing at the position of attention. Sideburns may not extend below the ear opening.
Male cadets must be clean-shaven unless their sponsoring agency permits facial hair. If facial hair is allowed, beards, goatees, and mustaches must be neatly trimmed, no longer than ¼ inch, and fully established before the course begins. Goatees must connect to a mustache; “soul patches” are not permitted. Facial hair edges must be clean and maintained daily, with no stubble beyond the established outline. Facial hair color must remain natural and consistent; abnormal or multicolored facial hair is not permitted.
If only a mustache is worn, it must be neatly trimmed. Mustaches may extend laterally no more than ½ inch from the corner of the mouth, no more than ¼ inch below the corner of the mouth, and no more than ¼ inch down over the upper lip.
Medical exceptions must be supported by a physician’s statement and approved by the Academy Director.
Female Cadets:
Hairstyles will be worn so that no part of the hair extends over the uniform shirt collar. Hair clips or pins matching the color of the hair may be worn. Pointed objects that could be used as a weapon will not be used to secure the hair. Ponytails are not allowed. The use of makeup is permissible, providing it is used moderately and promotes a businesslike appearance. Fingernails will not extend more than one‐eighth inch (1/8") beyond the fingertips. Fingernail polish, if worn, will be clear.
