The College of Remote and Offshore Medicine is running the Critical Care Paramedic courses for years but did it so far mainly with a one week classroom teaching session. We have developed the online content gradually and added this to our resources over the past years finally developed this comprehensive course in 2019. The results of the last course - which this online course is based on - had even surprised us: all our students who sat for the IBSC exam had passed both the CCP and FPC papers! That is 100% success rate - however we admit this was only the first such course and we only had a handful of students. Nonetheless we are now confident that with your hard work and our continuing support you will have the best chance to pass this notoriously tough exam!
You don't. We cannot teach you to put central lines or secure airway online but we do not even intend to do so. But we can teach you the knowledge and the way a critical care clinician should approach a clinical situation. By completing this course you will have a thorough understanding of the critical care concepts and clinical theory and will be able to pass the IBSC Exam. You will be able to approach clinical problems with the mind of a critical care professional and therefore also have confidence and competence to start learning the practical critical care skills should you have not done so yet. The College of Remote and Offshore Medicine offers classroom teaching for practical critical care skills (including simulation scenarios) as well as able to assist you to get clinical training placements to learn these skills.
The College of Remote and Offshore Medicine is a fully accredited academic non-for-profit organisation who runs graduate and postgraduate courses (accredited in the EU and US) for years. Its Critical Care and Flight Paramedic review courses are approved by the IBSC (see the IBSC website). Sandio Online Training is the technical provider of the online course solution to ensure the highest standard of online resources are available and maintained continuously.
The majority of the content for the CCP-C and the FP-C certification is the same and therefore most of the critical care modules are shared anyway. The FP-C Course has some additional modules about flight medicine while there are some differences in the emphasis on procedural and legal topics (e.g. road safety versus flight regulations). However it is quite possible to prepare for both exams simultaneously. This online course covers both and you do not have to pay any additional fee if you decide to take both topics during the year. In fact, many of our students sit for both exams at the end of the course and obtain both highly regarded Certifications at the same time.
You will be given a certificate on the successful completion of each module and you can use them as credits toward your further graduate and postgraduate studies. Also these courses are part of the Postgraduate and Masters level training by the College of Remote and Offshore Medicine. However, the main aim of this whole Course is to prepare you for passing the IBSC Exam and once you pass that you will be awarded with their Certificate too.
As long as you are eligible to sit the IBSC Exam and obtain the Certificate you are also eligible to enrol the online exam preparation course. To see the eligibility criteria for the IBSC Certifications, click here. However, if you are not yet eligible for the ISBC Exams but working on it, or you are a student of the College of Remote and Offshore Medicine studying on their graduate or postgraduate courses you can also enrol to this online course - but you can only sit for the ISBC Exams if all their entry requirements are met.
While individual learning styles and time requirements are varied considerably we recon that approximately a minimum of 80 hrs total would be necessary to successfully complete the course. With a comfortable pace you should be ready within 3 months but we recommend to give it a semester (6 months) to make sure you not just learn for the exam but will also retain all (or most of) this knowledge for your future clinical practice.
Yes, you will be mentored throughout the whole course to make sure you can use all resources and gain the most benefit from those .Being an online training course you will be able to set your pace but your mentor will be there to review your progress, give you advice and respond to all your questions and queries 7 days a week. The motto is "no question left unanswered".
Classroom teaching is not an essential part of this course but the College offers a one week intensive exam revision course (held in Malta) which is based on these modules and can help you further solidifying your knowledge. It is however important to know that without prior preparation and extensive work the one week classroom course is unlikely to be a successful way of learning everything necessary to pass the IBSC exams and therefore we recommend that mainly as an additional resource added to the online course. At the end of the classroom course there is an opportunity to sit for the IBSC Exam via the College's online testing centre. For more details about the Classroom week (dates available, venue and prices) see the CoROM website.
Normally, around 3 to 6 months would be enough to complete the course in a comfortable pace however we encourage you to take your time and study at your own pace (but do it regularly and continuously). We grant you 12 months of full access to all resources (including participation in Webinars) and further extension is possible if necessary for a minimal monthly fee.
If you are participating on a CoROM Training Program which consist this optional module as well (for example the Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in Critical Care Paramedic) you will have the option to collect the required credits via this online Course. You will not need to pay for this course separately as your tuition fee includes this option as well. See details of CoROM Training Programs here and details about enrolment on the relevant page.
There are books we recommend and you will need at least one of them to study but we leave it to you to resource them. (You can buy the book from us as well, if you prefer not to let Amazon getting richer). No other printed material will be necessary during the course - everything is online. If you prefer to have printed handouts you can either download and print it from our course site or you can choose to buy them from us (but really it would be cheaper if you do it yourself or even better, and more environmental friendly if you use a screen or tablet!)
