The Canadian Community Music Group Database is housed at University of Toronto Scarborough. It is a non-monetized project, supported primarily by UTSC faculty member, Roger Mantie, with initial data entry overseen by Laura Menard. Ana-Marie Zamrii was instrumental in conceptualizing the visualization aspects of the database. 

The database contains 1800+ entries on non-commercial community music groups and organizations across Canada (i.e., it does not include businesses). The database focuses primarily on in-tact groups and therefore does not adequately capture or represent the richness of community activity that takes the form of drop-ins, projects, events, and so on.

The database was generated based on internet searching and is therefore incomplete and may not reflect the most up-to-date information. If you know of an organization that is not listed, please complete the following form.

The current interface was developed by the UTSC library, with coding by Shirling Liu under the supervision of Kirsta Stapelfeldt. The database has also been supported by the UTSC research centre, Soundlife Scarborough. Special thanks go out to Laura Risk and Lynn Tucker for their encouragement, and to Audrey-Kristel Barbeau for her valuable contributions to the review and refinement of the French-language database. We also thank the UTSC Work Study program for supporting the project, 2021-2024, and during the 2026 summer term. 

The database is currently overseen by Angela Gibbon, with assistance from Lumindri Thiruchelvam and Gabriel Vincent.
