OCIA

OCIA is not simply a class or a commitment you make all at once. It is a guided process of learning, prayer, participation in the life of the Church, and discernment. There is no pressure, and Fr. Drew, the OCIA team, and I will accompany you throughout the process.

This year, Bucknell students will participate with the OCIA community at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish (a couple blocks away from the Newman House). The group meets on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to approximately 8:00 p.m. in Immaculate Heart Hall. The parish is using Ascension Press’s Invited program. Sessions begin August 18, before Bucknell classes begin, but students may join after returning to campus; September 1st would likely be your first session.

The process would ordinarily prepare you to receive Baptism, Confirmation, and First Holy Communion. These sacraments are often celebrated at the Easter Vigil, but readiness is discerned individually rather than treated as an automatic deadline.
