On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. John Jacklin of the town of Weston celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding, a large gathering of children, grandchildren and other relatives and friends joining with them in the happy event. Over fifty persons were present, coming before dinner, remaining the afternoon and for supper. Only one of their children, Mrs. H. E. Trumbell of Chicago could not attend.
The occasion was joyful family reunion and the afternoon was spent in social visiting and renewing of the old friendships. A number of the fine presents and a collection of gold coins were presented to the "bride" and "groom".
John Jacklin and Mary Mund were married Feb. 12, 1876 at Cedar Creek, Washington Co., Wisconsin. They came to Clark County in the spring of 1878, settled on their present farm in the fall of 1879, and have lived there until the present time. Seven children were born to them: Rosa Brudley, deceased; La Cardee, Mrs. Will Farning of Neillsville, Josephine, Mrs. H. E. Trumbell of Chicago; Della, Mrs. John Seif of the town of Seif; Mrs. Bertha Thompson of Neillsville; Ellis Jacklin and Una, Mrs. Gus Kuhl of the town of Weston .

Sunday evening, June 16, 1946, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Jackson were pleasantly surprised when approximately sixty relatives and friends called to help them celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. The evening was spent visiting and playing cards.
Mr. and Mrs. Jackson were presented with a purse of money in honor of the occasion. At a late hour a delicious lunch was served, after which the guests departed with many good wishes.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Jackson celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 24, 1967, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Open house was held from 2 - 5 p.m. and a supper for all relatives attending was served at 6:00.
Also celebrating were Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Jackson of Waukesha in honor of their 7th anniversary; Miss Darlene Kirn in honor of her first birthday; and Miss Lisa Wren in honor of her first birthday. Miss Kirn is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jackson and Miss Wren is their niece’s daughter.
Present were the Jackson’s four children: Mrs. Paul (Eula) Franz; Mrs. Roger (Yvonee) Kirn; Wayne, Marilynn at home, and their 13 grandchildren.

Following the supper, Rev. Myhrwold read a poem, "40 years of Memories," composed by Mrs. Paul Franz, the Jackson’s oldest daughter.
The children presented their parents with a lovely lounge chair and many cards and gifts were received from friends and relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Jackson were married on Sept. 24, 1927 in Phillips, Wis., and have resided in Clark County since their marriage, and in the Greenwood area since 1942.
They wish to thank everyone for their help in making it a very happy occasion.

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jacobi was celebrated Sunday, Sept. 21. The festivities began with a special prayer and blessing at Christ Lutheran church at the morning service.
Immediate relatives were served dinner at the Jacobi home in the town of Holton. The honored couple held open house from 2:00 to 5:00 o’clock for friends. A 5:00 o’clock pot luck supper was served for relatives and friends.
For the occasion, Mrs. Jacobi pinned a corsage of yellow carnations to a black dress with white trim. Mr. Jacobi had a yellow carnation boutonniere.

Mr. and Mrs. Jacobi, who were married at Dorchester, Sept. 22, 1908, have lived on their present farm in the town of Holton all their married life, and both are members of Christ Lutheran church.
They have five children: a son, Ervin and daughter, Ellen, at home; Chester, town of Holton, Mrs. Leigh (Doris) Ouimette, Harbor City, Calif.; and Mrs. Le Roy (Norma) Utke, Curtiss. There are five grand children.
Mrs. Frank Bernitt, Abbotsford, is the only living sister of Mr. Jacobi. Mrs. Jacobi has two sisters, Mrs. Vane Gokey, Abbotsford; and Mrs. Clara Jacobi, town of Holton, and one brother, Fred Leonhardt, Dorchester.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacobi were presented with many beautiful gifts and a large, golden money tree.

Thursday, August 7th, was the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jacobi and the event was commemorated Thursday evening by a party of about fifty relatives who surprised Mr. and Mrs. Jacobi at their home in this village.
A wedding dinner was served at eight o’clock and just as the guests were being seated at the table, Mrs. H. J. Cornelius arrived on the scene with a beautiful twelve inch wedding cake, appropriately decorated with golden roses, which she presented to Mr. and Mrs. Jacobi.
Entertainment was furnished by games played on the lawn and upon the arrival of photographer Duke of Medford, flash light pictures were taken. At midnight a mock wedding ceremony was performed, Rev. Brandt of Dorchester, officiated.
Sixty dollars in gold was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Jacobi by relatives as a golden wedding gift.
Mr. and Mrs. Jacobi were married at Newton, Manitowoc county, Aug. 7, 1880. They made their home three and one half miles east of Abbotsford on the farm upon which their sons, Herbert and Henry and their families, now reside. About thirty-three years were spent on the farm, when they moved to Colby, and for the past eleven years they have resided in Abbotsford, Wis. Old and respected residents, they have the hearty good wishes of hosts of friends, many of whom called to congratulate them at their home on their anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Francis Jacobson celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday, June 14, in the church parlors of the Sherwood Community church. The Sunday school and relatives were in attendance.
The afternoon was spent visiting and a short program was led by Rev. Axel Segregren.
The honored couple received a purse of money from their friends and a chest of silverware was given to them by their children. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gehre presented them with a beautiful wedding cake.

Mr. and Mrs. George Jacques invited about forty of their neighbors and friends last Wednesday to help them celebrate their silver wedding. Euchre was played at which Mrs. J. Schiller and Mrs. Wm. Goeden carried off prizes. Mr. and Mrs. Jacques were made the recipients of many gifts of silver. The guests, after having been served to a most bountiful lunch, repaired to their respective homes, leaving their best wishes for many a happy anniversary with their host and hostess.

Mr. and Mrs. William F. Jake, Sr., celebrated their 50th anniversary Saturday at an open house in the afternoon. A dinner was served at 5:30 to relatives and friends at the VFW Hall.
William F. Jake, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Christof Jake of Montello, was married to May Haskins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Haskins of Montello, December 20, 1909. The ceremony took place in the Baptist parsonage at Portage with the Rev. H. R. McMillian, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Marriage witnesses were Leon O. Haskins, brother of the bride and Mrs. H. B. McMillian, the pastor’s wife of Portage.
After the ceremony, the newlyweds had a nine-mile sleigh ride to the home of an uncle in Columbus. The snowdrifts were so high and the weather so stormy that the driver of the sleigh had difficulty getting the bridal party through to Columbus.
Soon after the wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Jake located on a farm near Montello, which they operated a year, then moved onto a farm near Westfield, there for five years. In 1916 they moved to the village of Westfield and in 1922 to Clark County, locating at Christie where they rented the F. Wiesjahn farm for two years. In 1924 they moved onto the Raymond farm, two miles east of Christie, and in 1927 they moved into Neillsville, living here since.
Arriving in Neillsville, Mr. Jake bought out the trucking and grocery delivery, and service station business then operated by Jack Light. The service station north of O’Neill Creek Bridge is now operated by Clarence Becker. He continued to operate the general delivery service until 1937 when he took a job with A. Hauge & Son, working there eight years.
Later he was employed in the Weidenhoff factory and at B & F factory operating a lathe, retiring a few years ago.
Their children include: Mrs. Kenneth (Dorothy) Wallace, William, JR. and Orville of Neillsville; Mrs. Wilbur (Ina) Albee of Cambria; Harley Jake of Fort Lewis, Wash.; Mrs. Wilber (Ina) Turner of Kirkland, Ill.; and Mrs. Roger (Margaret) Riley.

Mr. and Mrs. John Jakobi, 210 Depot St., Greenwood, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday afternoon, June 19, in festivities at the Greenwood American Legion Hall.
John Jakobi and Jane Brown were married on June 20, 1932, in Neillsville by the O.W. Schoengarth.
John was born on October 6, 1907, in Granton to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jakobi. He received his education in that community. He enjoys reading and paying cards. Jane was born on February 2, 1912, in Loyal to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brown. She received her education in Loyal schools. She enjoys reading, sewing and gardening.
Both are active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenwood. She is also active in the congregation’s ladies Aid and in the Lone Pine Homemakers Club.
The couple farmed all their lives in the Greenwood and Neillsville areas. In 1972, they retired and moved to Greenwood.
The couple has two sons, Gerald of Milwaukee and Harry of New Berlin; a daughter, Mavis Liebzeit, Greenwood; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Attending the celebration were John’s brother and Jane’s sister, who were original attendants for the couple.

Relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. John Jarmoluk of Gilman (Taylor Co., Wis.), gathered on Saturday, June 20th to help them celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
The couple renewed their marriage vows at a mass of thanksgiving at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 1 p.m., and a reception hosted by their children was held immediately after the ceremony at Koolmo Ballroom.
Ten of the couple eighteen attendants were present at the celebration. There were: Amelia Grabowski of Chicago; John Kapzukiewicz of Gilman; Victor Nicoski of Gilman; Stanley Nicoski of Chicago; Barney Bujalski of Chicago, Kathie (Twarowski) Sczyplorski of Stanley; Victoria (Bujalski) Sappa of Minneapolis; Cecelia (Pierling) Conrad of Milwaukee; Mari (Nicoski) Kembock of Superior; Mary (Bujalski) Brandsness of Chicago.
John Jarmoluk and Mary Twarowski were married at Stanley, Wisconsin on April 27, 1920. They have since lived in Gilman, where they were engaged in farming until their retirement in 1957.
The couple has five living children: Mrs. Walter (Frances) Karson, Chicago; Frank, Cary, Illinois; Mrs. Henry (Ann) Popowski, Bel Air, Maryland; Dr. Anton Jarmoluk, Elk River, Minnesota, and Mrs. Jerome (Betty) Dietzler, Thorp. They also have seventeen grandchildren.

On Saturday, July 25, 1970, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Jasinski of Lublin (Taylor Co., Wis.) celebrated their silver wedding anniversary, beginning with a Liturgy of Thanksgiving at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, with Father James Jorgenson officiating. A noon luncheon was served at their home for out of town guests. At 6:30 p.m., the Jasinskis, along with approximately 200 guests, enjoyed a dinner and an evening of dancing at the American Legion Hall in Thorp. Music was furnished by "The Happy Notes" of Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
Hostess for the evening was Mrs. June Scheuer and Mrs. Mary Gajda, acting as co-hostess.
The couple's attendants of 25 years ago, Katherine Piwoni and Leonard Jasinski, were present for the occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jasmer of route 3, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), were married 50 years ago in Wadena, Minnesota, July 6, 1923, and observed the anniversary at their home on Sunday, July 8th.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jaworek, Eau Claire, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday, August 22, 1971, with a mass at Immaculate Conception Church. A reception from 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall. A delicious meal was served to 25 relatives and friends. The beautiful three tier cake was made by Marilyn Jodi, cut and served by Kathy and Patty Jaworek. Dancing to the Melody Masters all evening was enjoyed by all.
A beautiful flower bouquet was presented to the couple by Mrs. Kathrine Jaworek and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Waclawek. Another beautiful bouquet arrived on the day of Mr. and Mrs. F. Jaworek's anniversary, August 24, 1971, from Mrs. Jaworek's sister, Arlene R. Kosik, Alexandria, Virginia. She was unable to attend.
The parents of the couple: Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Kosik, Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), and Mrs. Kathrine Jaworek, Chicago, was present. The attendants of the couple, Josephine Fill, Joe Lipka, Helen Niemiec, Mary Waclawek, Joe A. Lato, Frances Burke, were all present. Only one was unable to attend, Stanley Kuchta, Calumet City, Illinois. The couple's five children, Kathy, Ken, Patricia, Dennis and Mark were present at this special day for their parents.
The couple received many beautiful gifts and money. The relatives and friends came from Chicago, Thorp, Eau Claire, Altoona, Chippewa Falls, Milwaukee, Spencer. A special thank you to each and every one that helped in any way to make our day so special.

A special interest in travel is shared by Roy and Annabelle Jennings of Rt. 1 Chili, who were married December 8, 1926, at Yorkville by the Rev. Joseph Stein. Mr. and Mrs. Jennings marked their 50th wedding anniversary with a family-style dinner and open house December 4 at the United Methodist Church parlors in Chili. A family dinner was held at the couple’s home on the 8th.
Mrs. Jennings, the former Annabelle Dodder, was born in Gains, Mi., and her husband was born in Rio, Wi. Both are members of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Chili, and Mrs. Jennings is a past president of its W.S.C.S. They have been members of the choir for many years, and Mr. Jennings sang in the men’s quartet for several years. He served as clerk of the Cozy Corner School board for eight years.
Among those present for the anniversary observance were all seven of the couple’s children and their spouses. The children are Arthur of Oak Creek, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Walters of Aurora, Co., Mrs. Richard (Esther) Veltus of Racine, Mrs. Joe (Alice) Kirk of St. Paul, Mn., Kenneth of Granton, George of Marshfield and Howard of Chili. Also present were 28 of their 30 grandchildren, and six of their seven great-grandchildren.
Among those attending from out of town were the Jennings’s maid of honor, Mrs. Dorothy DeGroote of Madison and bestman, the Rev. Dale Jennings of Ripon.

The Nazareth Lutheran assembly hall at Withee was the scene of a celebration March 4, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jensen on their golden wedding anniversary.
In spite of inclement weather, nearly all of the invited guests partook a banquet prepared and served by the ladies of the guild. Covers were laid for 120 friends and relatives.
Later in the afternoon a short program was given, after which came presentation and display of gifts. A buffet lunch was served to all late-comers, as well as the dinner guests.
Mr. and Mrs. Jensen were married March 4, 1911, in Omaha, Neb. by a Lutheran pastor. Mrs. Jensen is the former Ellen Jensen.
They left the day of their marriage for Wisconsin, living west of Withee on Highway 29 for the first eight years, then moving six miles northwest of Withee, where they lived until their retirement a few years ago, when they settled in the village. Six children were born to them; Mrs. William (Edna) Rynkle of Chicago, Mrs. Max (Marie) Calhoun, Libertyville, Ill., Mrs. Raymond (Anna) Oakes of Momence, Ill., Earl of Withee, Jens of Chicago, Ill., and Edward of Chicago Heights. Besides, they have 21 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
All were able to attend except one grandchild, who was ill, and a son-in-law.
Mr. and Mrs. Jensen received many gifts besides the congratulations and well wishes of their many friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jensen celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary Saturday, March 4, 1961, by giving a ham and chicken noon dinner, prepared by Ladies Guild, to 120 relatives and friends at the Nazareth Lutheran Hall at Withee. The tables were beautifully decorated with yellow flower centerpieces and a four tiered wedding cake baked and decorated by Mrs. Andrew Christensen.
From 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. there was Open House with a short musical program and words of congratulations followed by a lovely lunch. Mrs. Jensen wore a corsage of yellow roses on a dark green crepe dress, while Mr. Jensen wore a gold carnation with his charcoal gray suit. These flowers were a gift of a close friend.
Albert Jensen was born in Denmark May 1884 and received his education in Denmark. He came to America in 1906 and worked as a common laborer in Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska, until the time of his marrie to Elle Jensen in Omaha, Neb., March 4, 1911.
Ellen Jensen was born in Denmark March 17, 1885, and received her education in Denmark. She came to America in 1908 and worked as a maid until the time of their marriage. The day after their wedding they came to a farm in the town of Hixon in Clark County and farmed west of Withee for eight years. Then they moved to a farm northwest of Withee, where they farmed for 36 years. In 1957 they retired and bought a home in Withee.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Jensen are enjoying good health. They are members of Nazareth Lutheran Church at Withee and the Danish brotherhood and Sisterhood Lodges.
There are six children: three sons, Earl of rural Withee, Jens and Edward of Chicago; and three daughters, Edna (Mrs. William Rynko) of Chicago, Marie (Mrs. Max Calhoun) of Libertyville, Ill., and Anne (Mrs. Ray Oakes) of Momence, Ill. There are also 21 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jensen, Dorchester, were called for at their home in the Town of Mayville Saturday and driven to Memorial Hall in Dorchester in a 1917 Model T. Ford, to begin the celebration in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary. A sign on the back of the car read: “Married Just 50 Years,” and of course a few tin cans on the back provided a little extra noise on the way to town.
John Oestreich was chauffer for the honored couple. He is the owner of the antique car.
The reception at the hall was attended by about 150 afternoon and supper guests, and there were about 200 attending the dance in the evening. Lee Jensen, Owen, a brother of the groom of 50 years ago, was present. He is the only attendant now living. Mrs. Jensen wore a corsage of yellow carnations and Jensen wore a yellow carnation boutonniere. All guests wore corsages made by Mrs. Hundrieser, daughter of the Jensens.
Arthur Jensen was born at Dorchester September 15, 1903 and received his education here. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Jensen.
Margaret Ulrich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Ulrich, was also born in Dorchester on July 4, 1905, and received her education in Dorchester schools.
The couple was married at Dorchester January 16, 1922, and lived in the Town of Mayville (Clark Co., Wis.) all but one year, which was spent in Janesville. They farmed in the Town of Mayville, retiring from farming in 1967. Jensen also worked as a road maintenance man for Mayville for 30 years. They are members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He still enjoys hunting and used to take hunting trip to the wester United States.
Mrs. Jensen’s hobbies are flower gardening and antiques.
The Jensens have 12 children: Mrs. Melvin (Beulah) Fischer, Mrs. Norbert (Vera) Younker, Mrs. Paul (Verna) Meyer, Mrs. Roy (Marilyn) Meyer, and Bruce Jensen, all of Dorchester; Mrs. Frank (Charlene Hundrieser, Chicago; Glen Jensen, Hartford; Mrs. Ted (Donna) Goessl, Marshfield; Mrs. Gerald (Audrey) Cypher, Medford; Gene Jensen, Curtiss; Mrs. Eugene (Sandra) Dassow, Pewaukee, and Dean (Jack) Jensen, Browning, Montana.
Among the larger gifts received by the honored couple was a clothes dryer from all of the children; a family tree, gold branches and black velvet, with pictures of all the children and their spouses, all 44 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
This was made and given to them by their daughter, Mrs. Fischer. The large anniversary cake, topped with a picture of Mr. and Mrs. Jensen, circled with a large heart on which was the gold “50”, was a gift from their daughter, Mrs. Paul Meyer. A large floral centerpiece placed on the guests’ tables was given to the couple by their daughter, Mrs. Goessl. Mrs. Hundrieser made the corsages and other decorations.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Jensen had an early observance of their silver wedding anniversary Sunday, Aug. 14, with relatives and friends who came for the wedding of their daughter Linnea, and Sam Zier, on Aug. 13.
A special service was held in the morning at the Christian Assembly of God at Abbotsford. The Rev. L. A. Johnson of Bisbee, Ariz., father of the Rev. Lillian Jensen who serves the Abbotsford congregation as minister, conducted the forepart of the service and the Rev. Wilbur Mandigo of East Moline, Ill., conducted the latter part and speaking.
Those present joined in a prayer for the honored couple. Among them were their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Zier.
After the church service, the relatives and friends were guests at a picnic dinner at Cherokee park.
The anniversary date of Mr. and Mrs. Jensen is September 26.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Jensen were given a genuine surprise last Saturday evening, the occasion of their 10th wedding anniversary. About 25 of their friends and neighbors came in with well filled lunch baskets and taking possession of the house, dance, lunched and made merry until the early hours of the next morning. It was a delightful party and one long to be remembered with pleasure by all participants.

It was in the depths of the Depression, Theodore Jensen, Withee, had a job and was planning to get married. Myron Wilding, along with another man, came to him with the idea on how to get a lot of wedding gifts. Ted should get married at the Clark County Fair. Ted’s bride-to-be, Martha Finnila, agreed with the plans. The wedding was to be the finale of the Clark County Fair.
Lady Diana had nothing on Martha in regards to the numbers who came to see the wedding. On August 29, 1931, the grandstand at the fairgrounds was filled to capacity. Some say it was most ever seated; estimates ran up to 2,600.
The whole thing was to be a surprise to fair-goers. Jensen recalls, “We planned to get there just a short time before but were there in plenty time. They were pacing the gate when we arrived for fear we wouldn’t show up.” One of the men offered him a little nip of reinforcement. (It was prohibition days then.)
The party went to the base of the grandstand where there were little rooms. Here Martha put on a hoopskirt gown on loan.
The couple hadn’t planned a big wedding as Ted was working a 7 to 6 day, six-10 hour days per week for $60 per month. He was glad to have a job. There would be no time off for a wedding day or honeymoon.
Entertainers performing before the grandstand were the witnesses to the event. On the Jensen’s 35th anniversary, the former Enid Erickson, now Mrs. G.G. Drehmel, Fall Creek, wrote to the Jensens. “I believe I was your flower girl. My father was with Northern States, and seemed to have something to do with the fair. I was five years old then,” she said.
Even though Ted had a sporty Buick roadster, they were glad the fair association picked up the tab for the fee of The Rev. George W. Longenecker.
Martha’s parents weren’t too happy about the event-and were not at the fair.
Ted didn’t take time off to collect on the small gifts offered. Some had strings attached. A business which offered to take care of the couple’s washing gave them a washboard. From a merchant who offered a bed, the Jensen’s found out that there was an extra $40 attached; the merchant was only giving the bed frame, no spring, no mattress. After some discussion they got the “bed” but ended getting a spring and mattress from a mail-order company. (The bed frame had a price tag of $3.90.)
Another merchant gave a quarter ton of coal, worth $2, but the Jensens had to buy a whole ton or winter’s supply to go with it. Another merchant gave five gallons of gas, but you had to fill the tank. Still another gave five gallons, but you had to buy a set of tires to go with it. “You could buy gasoline at 8 gallons for a dollar then,” Jensen recalled.
“We didn’t go to get the other things offered as I could not take off time from work. Some of those merchants looked as if I should be bringing them a gift instead,” Jensen humorously recalled.
The Jensens didn’t go to the Clark County Fair this year and are planning to quietly observe the event of 50 years ago. The Jensen’s now reside in Owen.

Kenneth and Darlene (Rachu) Jicinsky of Spencer celebrated 50 years of marriage on Aug 11, 2006. The Rev. Charles Stoetzel blessed their marriage during the Maas on Aug 13, at Christ the King Parish in Spencer.
Ken was born March 21, 1932, to Ferdinand and Frances Jicinsky of Unity. After high school graduation, Ken served in the Army for two years. He worked for Spencer Milk Products for seven years and also at Hub City Foods for 34 years, retiring in 1995.
Darlene was born July 5, 1936 to Ervin and Evelyn Rachu of Unity. After graduation she worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Factory and at Land O’ Lakes of Spencer, retiring in 1996.
Ken and Darlene were married Aug 11, 1956 in Colby.
They have eight children, Allen (Gail) Jicinsky of Spencer, Deb (Jon) Zinsli of Verona, Darla (late Duane) Tyzinik of Spencer, Rhonda Jicinsky of Rhinelander, Terry Jicnisky of Las Vegas NV, Chris (Lisa) Jicinsky of Fairborn, OH, Sherry (Scott) Bridges of San Jose, CA, and Michelle (Tom) Johnson of Marshfield.
They have 13 grandchildren, Lisa and Brian Jicinsky; Beth, Matthew and Kelly Zinsli; Elisabeth (Chris) Vignali; Zachary (Crystal) Albrecht; Adam and Derek Vaughan; Jordan and Maci Tyznik; Nicholas and Maxwell Johnson. Ken and Darlene also have one great-grandchild, Olivia Vignali.
They enjoy working on their land in the woods, traveling, playing cards and attending their grandchildren’s activities.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Johnson of Duluth, Minnesota were pleasantly surprised while visiting here at the Milton Meske and Fred Meske home by a 50th wedding anniversary celebration Sunday, May 16 at the home of his sister, Mrs. Fred Meske.
Mr. Johnson was born in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, and came to this area in 1906 with his parents. He attended school in the town of Holton (Marathon Co. Wis.), what was then the Rosedale School. Later the family moved near Curtiss (Clark Co.). His wife, the former Irene Blanchard, was born and grew up in the area of Oshkosh. She was a school teacher and taught school in Curtiss, thus finding her husband there. They were married in Oshkosh June 7, 1921. They went to Virginia, Minnesota to live, he was a mechanic, and lived there until about 33 years ago, when they moved to Duluth They have one son, Russell, Medford, Oregon, and seven grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Coley Johnson were honored Sunday, June 16, at an open house in their home in celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary. The event was planned by their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle Johnson of Eau Claire, and niece, Mrs. Vesta Erickson of Loyal. Others assisting in the home were Mrs. Nina Stuve, Miss Daisy Stevens, Mrs. Dick Walker, Francis Marsden, Mrs. Rella Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Walker.
Refreshments were served in the afternoon to a large number of friends and relatives. Mrs. Verna Walker, granddaughter, cut and served a three tiered wedding cake, made by herself and Mrs. Rella Walker. A niece, Mrs. Fred Farrington of Davenport, Ia., poured. The living room was a bower of flowers, given and arranged by Mrs. Henry Laffe.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson received many gifts. One unique wrapping of a gift caused much admiration. It looked very much like a three-tier wedding cake, being decorated with silver loops, pink roses and green leaves. The numeral "60" on the top was of small rhinestones. Miss Daisy Stevens had concealed in the layers, a set of dishes, gift of two organizations and a friend of the Johnsons. Mrs. Horace Sherwin of Black River Falls assisted in the table arrangements, and Mrs. Sam Newton had charge of the guest book.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were married June 13, 1897, at Merrillan, Rev. G. N. Foster of Neillsville officiating. Mr. Johnson’s brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Johnson, were the attendants.
After their marriage they built a home in Humbird, in which they still live. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson are over 80 years old, and enjoying fair health. Mrs. Johnson is a member of the W. S. C. S., the Rebekah Lodge, Royal Neighbors and American Legion auxiliary. Both are members of the Methodist Church and Mr. Johnson of the Oddfellows Lodge.
Their only son, Edwin Johnson, died a few years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johnson celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary December 31 at their home three-quarters of a mile north of town hall in the Town of Weston. There were married in the Lutheran Church in Stanley, December 31, 1912.
In 1926 they moved onto their present 40-acre farm. Two children were born to them: Donald, who died January 13, 1939, when a senior in Neillsville High School; and a daughter, Mrs. Ed (Violet) Anderegg. The 50th wedding anniversary celebration honoring Mr. and Mrs. Olaf A. Johnson was held Sunday, July 29, at the farm home northeast of Greenwood, where the Johnsons were for many years engaged in farming, before moving to this city. The farm is now owned and operated by their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Johnson.
More than 150 relatives and friends attended the outdoor reception, with lunch being served at noon and 5 p.m. A large wedding cake centered the table. The tables were decorated with vases of flowers. The Rev. Ira Tanner, pastor of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, of which the Johnsons are members, offered a table prayer.
Those in attendance were all six children of the honored couple and their husbands and wives; all 14 of their grandchildren and one great-grandchild. This was the first time that the entire Johnson family got together.
Also present were all of their brothers and sisters, with the exception of one brother and one sister of Mrs. Johnson who reside in the State of Washington. One son, Orville Johnson, died in August 1951.
The children present were: Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Johnson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Johnson and family of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Harold (Mabel) Harding and family of Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Peter (Jane) Nichols and family, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Vern (Verna) Parish and family, Elmhurst, Ill.: Mr. and Mrs. James (Dorothy) Webb and family of Northbrook, Ill.
Brothers and sisters present were Mrs. Mila Heidrich of Greenwood, Mrs. Lillian Hanson of Chicago, Mrs. Ollie Johnson of Wausau; and Mrs. Clarence Hendrickson of Spencer.
Olaf A. Johnson, son of Swan and Martha Johnson, was born in Sweden, April 15, 1881. He came to the United States from Sweden with his parents in 1885 at the age of four years. His wife, the former Mabel A. Hendrickson, daughter of Michael and Mathilda Hendrickson, was born in Greenwood August 27, 1887. They were married July 25, 1906, in Greenwood at the home of her parents.
The honored couple received many gifts, a purse of money and many congratulatory messages.

It is a happy time in the home and hearts of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Johnson today, May 14th, as they celebrate their golden wedding day. It means fifty years of living and loving, of enduring and overcoming the problems of life that confronted them through the years. Holding each others hand as they look toward the sunset, there’s a prayer of thankfulness in their hearts that God blessed them on their way together.
They were married in a Lutheran parsonage back in Chicago and lived in the city about seven years before coming to Wisconsin where they bought a tract of land in the Town of Unity and through the years made a comfortable and modern home. They sold their farm and have resided in the village for three years, purchasing the house owned by Otto Pereschke.
Back in 1908 when Rev. Hiller was pastor of the Swedish Church, they became members and have been faithful members ever since.
The groom is 77 and the bride is 75. They have one daughter, Mrs. John W. Johnson (Signe); 5 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
The house is decorated with white bells and golden streamers and open house will be held from two until four this afternoon. A dinner for relatives and old friends will be served in the evening.
The Register joins the many local friends of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson in extending congratulations and best wishes for many more happy years of wedded life.

Mr. and Mrs. John W. Johnson entertained about 55 guests at their home Sunday afternoon in honor of their daughter Eileen’s confirmation and the 55th wedding anniversary of Mrs. Johnson’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Johnson.
Mr. Johnson, 82, and Mrs. Johnson, 80, were married in Chicago May 14, 1898 and came to the Town of Unity in 1905 and settled on a farm. They moved to Unity, Wisconsin about 6 years ago. Both are in good health and able to get about quite well. They have one daughter, Mrs. John W. Johnson.

They live alone and get along nicely. The great-grandchildren presented them with a beautifully decorated wedding cake.

The 50th anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Carl H. Johnson of Colby (Clark Co., Wis. was celebrated Saturday, June 28, 1969. It began with a special mass for the honored couple at 10:45 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby, of which both are members. The Rev. Francis P. Rushman officiated, and Mrs. Alois Gabriel of Colby was organist.
A reception was held at the Colby Hotel beginning at 3 o’clock, and dinner was served at 5:30 to approximately 100 relatives and close friends. In the evening from 9 to 1, a reception and dance, with music by Roger Allen, took place at Sportsmen’s Park at Colby.
For the occasion, Mrs. Johnson and daughters and granddaughters had corsages, and Mr. Johnson, sons and grandsons had boutonnieres. A cymbidium orchid with yellow carnations made up the corsage of the bride of 50 years, and yellow carnations were used in the other corsages and boutonnieres.
Centering the table was a decorated anniversary cake topped by the original ornament, a miniature bride and groom, used on the wedding cake of Carl Johnson and Anne Schommer on June 26, 1919, and later on the wedding cakes of their three daughters. Mrs. Elaine Hilber baked and decorated the anniversary cake for her parents.
Relatives and friends came from Swanton, Ohio, St. Charles and St. Paul, Minnesota, Lancaster, California, Oshkosh, Omro, Kenosha, Marshfield, Neillsville, Butternut, Mercer, Tomahawk, Phillips and Medford, Wisconsin.
Carl Johnson, son of Henry and Anna Johnson, was born March 18, 1894 on the farm two miles west of Unity (Clark Co.). He attended Unity school and farmed the home farm. In addition, in 1914, he built three concrete silos, using a homemade mixer.
Mrs. Johnson, the former Anne Schommer, daughter of John and Katherine Schommer, was born on October 23, 1896 at Freedom, Wisconsin. When she was 10 years old the family moved to a farm two miles east and one-half mile north of Colby. Her education, which was begun in Freedom schools, was continued at St. Mary’s Catholic School, Colby. For two years prior to her marriage, she was employed as bookkeeper at the Colby Clinic.
After their marriage, which took place at Colby June 26, 1919, at which the Rev. Henry Lachnitt of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, officiated. The couple farmed on the home place until 1924. The next year they purchased a arm one and one-half miles southwest of Milan, which they operated for 13 years, and then came to Abbotsford, and in 1939 began a business which developed into the present Johnson Silo and Lumber Company, Inc. In 1948 they purchased a block plant and residence on the south edge of Colby, and started making cement blocks and cement stave silos. They moved from Abbotsford to Colby the following year, and ten years ago their sons, Lorris and Carl Jr., moved from Peoria, Illinois, to Colby and joined the firm.
At present, in addition to the Silo construction, the firm operates a modern sawmill at Colby and a similar one at Mercer, and are known throughout central Wisconsin for quality concrete silos and manufacturers of hardwood lumber.
Mr. Johnson retired five years ago, but is quite active as board chairman. Over the years, Mrs. Jonson worked with her husband in the business in numerous ways,a dn both are interest in the activities around the plant, located next to the residence. Mr. Johnson ahs an added interest in the growth of the many trees he personally planted on the property. Both are avid bowlers.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson have three daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Tony (Lenore) Switlick of Omro; Mrs. Elaine Hilber of Marshfield, and Mrs. Joe (Doris) Orth of Swanton, Ohio, and two sons, Lorris and Carl Jr., both of Colby. They have 29 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Johnson has three sisters, Mrs. Hilda Justman and Mrs. Roy (Emma) Justman of Unity, and Mrs. Elsie Dommer of Oshkosh. Mrs. Johnson has two brothers, Lambert Schommer of Marshfield, and Ray Schommer of Kaukauna, and one sister, Mrs. Einar (Jose) Olson, now of Bourbonnais, Illinois. Mrs. Olson, formerly of Abbotsford, the only living attendant of the Johnson nuptials, was unable to be present for the golden anniversary observance.

Last Wednesday evening, February 18th, marked the 55th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johnson who live on the east side in the village (Unity, Wis.). I was privileged to attend their golden wedding anniversary party at the Trinity Lutheran Church five years ago and was asked to write something for them. Here is a portion of their history as written five years ago:
If the curtain of time we could roll back, To fifty years or so… We’d see Bertha as a lovely young maiden And Ed as her dashing young beaux.
They were married up at Phillips Where the weather really gets cold; But they didn’t worry at all about that, For the love bug had taken firm hold.
T’was then Bertha learned her ABC’s In cooking, and darning and all that But cook as she would, not even to this day, Has she been able to get Mr. Johnson fat.
There was a terrible fire… That burned Phillips practically down; T’was then they came to Unity And settled on the farm west of town.
They worked and labored together, To build a home for the children they loved; There were eight of them all together, But two passed on to their Home above.
They helped to build the first Swedish church, Way back in the long ago… They are charter members of this church, And have been faithful workers, I know.

Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Johnson of Rt. 1 Greenwood, who were married at the Methodist parsonage in Stanley on a cold New Year’s Eve in 1912, will observe their 60th wedding anniversary Sunday with a quiet family gathering at their home. On Tuesday of this week, the Johnsons were pleased to receive anniversary congratulations from President and Mrs. Richard Nixon.
The Rev. James Kneen officiated at the Johnson’s wedding. Their only attendants were her cousin, Edith Johnson, and Miss Johnson’s fiancé, Chris Luchen. After the ceremony the party of four returned to the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Erick Johnson, for a small family reception. The ground being snow-covered, transportation was furnished by a horse-drawn double cutter.
The bride is the former Tilda Johnson. “All I did was change from a Miss Johnson to a Mrs. Johnson,” she commented.
Mrs. Johnson was born near Morris, Ill., at the home of her Grandfather Johnson. The family moved to South Dakota while she was a small child, then settled southeast of Stanley when she was eight. Mrs. Johnson grew up in the Stanley area and met her husband, who had a married sister living there, when he came to Stanley to work. Mr. Johnson, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ole Johnson, was born and grew up in the Caryville-Meridean area southwest of Eau Claire.
They are the parents of a daughter Violet, Mrs. Edward Anderegg of Rt. 1 Greenwood. A son, Donald, died in 1939 when he was a senior at Neillsville High School. There are three grandchildren; Mrs. Larry (Ann) Weber of West Allis, Gerald Anderegg of Greenwood and Dennis Anderegg, who graduated recently from District One Technical Institute, Eau Claire; and nine great-grandchildren.
The Johnsons lived in Stanley for a time after their marriage and moved to their present home, located about two miles northwest of Christie near the Weston Townhall, in 1926. They have sold the farm to the Webers but continue to live in the farm house.
Both are members of the Christie united Methodist Church and have been active in church work. Mrs. Johnson is a charter member of the Weston Homemakers club, a group organized about 40 years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johnson of Christie observed their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday at their rural home, although the wedding date was December 31.
Mr. Johnson and the former Tilda Johnson were married December 31, 1912, in Stanley, and have lived in the Christie area since 1926. They retired from active work a few years ago, but still; reside on their farm in the Town of Weston.
They are the parents of a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Violet) Anderegg of the Christie area. A son, Donald, died in 1939.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Johnson, residents of Unity since 1890, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Saturday evening, August 12th, at the Trinity Lutheran church where a commemorative program was given commencing at 8:00 o’clock.
The couple was married fifty years last December 10th, but because of the death of their daughter, Mrs. Arthur Edblom, the celebration was postponed until this month, which also marks the anniversary of Mrs. Johnson’s birthday, August 11th.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson moved to a farm just west of the village in 1890 and made their home there until 1920, when they moved to the village.
Four of their six children are living: Mrs. A. W. Justman, Unity; Carl Johnson, Abbotsford; Mrs. Roy Justman, Unity; and Mrs. Ed. Domer, Oshkosh. One child died in infancy and Mrs. Edblom died in December.
They have 22 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson joined the Trinity Lutheran Church at the time it was organized in 1900. Mrs. Johnson is an honorary member of the Ladies’ Aid Society and is affiliated with the Missionary Society. They are one of the oldest active couples in the church.
They live alone in their little home in the village, doing all their own work and raising a fine garden. Mr. Johnson is 76 and Mrs. Johnson is 77.

Friday, June 13th, 1947, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Johnson observed their golden wedding anniversary. Although the day was unpleasant and rain fell, a hundred or more people visited their home to offer congratulations to this worthy couple and wish them many happy returns of the day. There was open house from two until five in the afternoon, during which time coffee, cade and ice cream were served by a bevy of young ladies, to those coming and going.
At 6:30 a sumptuous supper, including a beautifully decorated wedding cake, was served to nearly fifty relatives. Many very lovely gifts were received, and also a purse of money.
Relatives from out of town attending were Mr. and Mrs. John Erickson and family of Lindsay; Mrs. I.V. Putman and Mrs. Herbert Phillips of Janesville; Hilliard Campbell and daughter Edith of La Crosse; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Chenoweth of Hixton; Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Sweeney of Eleva; Mr. and Mrs. Thos E. Welch Jr. of Chippewa Falls; Mrs. H.R. Welch, Ronald and Mary Lou of Jim Falls; and Henry Johnson of Lindsay.
After the supper, Rev. Sachtjen of Merrillan, performed a renewal wedding ceremony, in the presence of those assembled. Henry Johnson, who stood up with his brother so long ago, again stood by his side, and his oldest daughter, Jrs. John Erickson, took her mother’s place beside the bride.
The entire day was a most happy one, and Mr. and Mrs. Johnson express their gratitude to all the kind friends who helped to make it so, and also to those who remembered them with gifts and congratulatory notes on this occasion.

The Memorial Hall at Dorchester was the scene of a lovely party given by the children of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Johnson on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary, Saturday, August 5, 1972.
Music for dancing was furnished by Archie and Al. Mr. Johnson was postmaster in Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.) for 10 years, and Mrs. Johnson was postal clerk in the same post office for 25 years. They presently own a tavern, Jake's Bar, in Curtiss.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Johnson enjoy good health. Mrs. Johnson, the former Lucy Green, was born October 21, 1896, the daughter of Ben and Sarah Green, and received her education in the Curtiss, Abbotsford and Ashland schools.
Mr. Johnson, son of Ale and Karen Johnson, was born January 21, 1894, and was educated in the Curtiss schools.
Mrs. Johnson wore a corsage of pink roses and white carnations edged in gold. Mr. Johnson had a carnation boutonniere trimmed with gold.
A buffet supper was served to 250 guests. The tables were beautifully decorated in keeping with the occasion.
Mrs. Lawrence Neitzel, Abbotsford, the former Edith Green, was the bridesmaid 50 years ago, and was present at the party.
The Johnsons have two sons, Laverne of Rochelle, Ill., and Lyle of Curtiss, and four daughters, Mrs. Joe Bochina, Madison, Florida; Iris, Mrs. Earl Schiszik, Curtiss, Ramona, Mrs. Glen Schaus, Kaukauna, and Sharon, Mrs. Myron Brecke of Stetsonville. They have 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Guests came from many place, include Mr. Johnson's sister, Clara (Mrs. Ole Olson) of Canada, and her son and daughter-in-law. Others were from Arizona, Wyoming, Chicago, Florida and many other relatives and friends.

Humbird Couple Celebrates 50th Wedding Anniversary
Humbird, Clark County, Wis. - On June 13, 1947, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Johnson celebrated their golden wedding anniversary here with open house in the afternoon. In the evening, the vows were renewed with the Rev. E. J. Sachtjen officiating.
James C. Johnson and Alice Delap, both of Humbird, were married on June 13, 1897, at Merrillan. They were attended by Mr. Johnson's brother, Henry, and his wife. His brother was here at the celebration.
Mr. Johnson is a retired section foreman. They have one son and two grandchildren.

Celebrate Silver Wedding
The home of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Johnson, Town of Unity, was the scene of a happy gathering of relatives last Tuesday evening, who came in to help the Johnsons celebrate their Silver Wedding.
A mock wedding was held and the guests all joined in singing the old songs. A large cake topped by a miniature bride and groom decorated the dining table.
The couple received many beautiful gifts and a purse of coins from the guests.
Relatives coming from away who attended were Rev. and Mrs. Edmond Anderson and son Charles of Turtle Lake and Miss Esther Anderson of Chicago.

Johnsons Celebrate 50th anniversary – Keith (Swede) and Maryann (Lightfoot) Johnson, Merrillan, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family. They were married Feb. 16, 1959, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, IA.

On Sunday evening, July 13, a large crowd of relatives and friends gathered at Our Saviors Lutheran Church parlors in Greenwood to honor Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Johnson on their 40th wedding anniversary, which ocurred on June 11. It was sponced and planned by their children.
Leonard Johnson and Lois Cole were married June 11, 1929 at the home of her parents, the late Dr. and Mrs. B. A. Cole in Butlerville. Eight of the 45 guests at the wedding were present at the anniversary celebration. During the evening a short program was given. It included a short talk by Rev. Myrewold, group singing and also a short history, including some jokes. by their son, Ray, and a vocal solo by Rev. Myhrwold accompanied by himself on his mandolin. The program closed with the Lord's Prayer and a verse of " Blest Be The Tie."
A lunch was served which included a wedding cake made by Mrs. Mike Klapatauskas.
The Johnsona have five children and nine living grandchildren. All were present for the occasion. They are: Mr. and mrs. Harold (Vera) Prust, and family, Plimouth; Mr. and Mrs. Dale Johnson and Ann, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Johnson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson and Scott, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray B. Johnson, Greenwood.
Other guests came from Cornell, Hillsboro, Eau Claire, Augusta, Thorp, Withee, Rolling Meadows, Ill., Everett, Wash, Owen, Clear Lake, Loyal, and Willard.

Approximately 180 people, including four pastors (two of whom were nephew and grand-nephew of Leonard) attended the golden wedding anniversary of Lois and Leonard Johnson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood on Saturday, June 16, 1979.. The event was sponsored by their five children, who are Vera (Mrs. Harold Prust of Plymouth, Dale of Eau Claire, Same of Crandon, Harry of Greenwood, and Ray of Cadott.
Corsages and two big bouquets were given by the 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The tables were decorated with flowers from Mrs. Evelyn Turnquist. White and gold streamers and bells decorated the basement where the supper was served.
S short program was given in the church, preceding supper. The program, of which their son, Harry was M.C., consisted of: Hymn – Blest Be the Tie, sung by the audience; Introduction of the Family by Harry; Invocation and Welcome by Pastor Kochel; Remarks by Rev. Jolivette (a nephew of Leonard); Duet by Harry and Eleanor Johnson; Reading by Dale Johnson; Remarks by Rev. Myhrwold (a former pastor); a hymn – On Our Way Rejoicing, by the audience; and a prayer and benediction by Rev. Verhulst (a great-nephew of Leonard).
Arlene Dyre McFarlane, a cousin, accompanied the singing.
The supper was prepared and served by Work Group No. 3, of which Lois is a member and Eleanor is co-chairman.
The evening was spent at the home of their son, Harry, who has his house built on the sport where Leonard was born. The entertainment there was music by Frank Pakiz on the accordion, and Knute Wallin on the banjo. It included a Norwegian song by Wallin and an impromptu mock wedding.
Leonard was born in the town of Warner and worked on his father’s farm. Later he worked for Greenwood Telephone Company, of which his uncle was manager. His hobbies are hunting deer and watching sports on TV. (Since his leg was amputated he has a permit to hunt from his car.)
Lois was a teacher in rural schools in the Greenwood area. Her hobbies are piecing quilts for Mission Work and crocheting rugs.
The couple was married on June 11, 1929 at her parent’s home I the Town of Butler.
Mrs. Harold Haupt (Grace Johnson), a niece of Leonard, who is the only living attendant, was present for the occasion.
Guests came from Michigan, Texas, Iowa, South Dakota, Ohio and several places in Wisconsin. Among them were Lois’ sisters: and Mr. and Mrs. Krahn of Oshkosh, who were married on the same date, several years later. Mr. Krahn was a former ag teacher and one time principal in Greenwood Schools. Mrs. Johnson’s nice, Mrs. Walker of Augusta, also married on the same date in 1948. She was present, but her husband was unable to attend.

It was June 11, 1929, when Lois Cole and Leonard Johnson stood before Rev. Daniel Householder in the home of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Beder Cole, at Butlerville (south of Thorp) and repeated vows of matrimony.
Dr. Cole was a country doctor serving the Town of Butler and surrounding area in those days. Leonard was the son of the late Simon (Sam) Johnson, who resided in a Norwegian settlement northeast of Greenwood.
The bride was born in the community of West Lima, Richland Co. She graduated from the Greenwood High School and then attended Eau Claire Normal (now UW-Eau Claire). She taught two years in Benjamin School and four more at LaTart. After her marriage, she did some substitute teaching and was an aide at Memorial Hospital and Memorial Home in Neillsville. She now does mission work for her church in addition to piecing quilts and crocheting rugs.
Living on the “home place” of his parents, Leonard worked part time for an uncle, who was in charge of the Greenwood Telephone Company. They have a 1908 wall phone restored from the days when there were 18 on a party line. He recalled that during the depression years, many times there was only the subscriber on the many-circuited lines. The couple moved in 1967 to 106 N. Main St. Greenwood.
Although Leonard has passed his 80th birthday, he hasn’t given up telephone work, working part-time answering the phone in a telephone office next door. He likes to watch ball games on TV and play cards. Keeping up the custom of successful hunting since 1922, Leonard makes use of a special permit since he had his leg amputated three years ago.
The Johnsons have one daughter, Mrs. Harold (Vera) Prust, of Plymouth. Of their four sons, their mother says they are all ‘wire minded” as three work for telephone companies and one for an electric company. They are Dale, Eau Claire; Sam, Crandon; Harry, Greenwood; and Ray, Cadott. There are also 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The Johnsons were members of the Trondhjem Church, which later merged with Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
An open house was held at Our Savior’s Church with Harry Johnson as master of ceremonies. Of those attending, Mrs. Harold Haupt, Elkhorn, the only surviving attendant, and her husband came for the celebration.
During the program, the Rev. Arvid Myhrwold, former pastor of the church, continued the friendly Norwegian banter of bygone days with singing a song in Norwegian for the honored couple. He and his wife also sang a duet accompanied on his banjo.
In addition to the reminiscing by family members, two nephews, the Rev. Norbert Jolivette and the Rev. Harold Verhulst, recalled their youthful days with the Johnsons. Harry Johnson and his wife Eleanor (Noeldner) also sang for the celebration.
Following the program, guests visited in the church hall until dinner for the 180 guests. In the evening, some 20 more signed the guest book at an open house held at the Johnson home.

Mr. and Mrs. Ole J. Johnson were married fifty years last Saturday, Sept. 20th, 1924, and the occasion was duly celebrated at the United Lutheran Church last Sunday.
A large crowd was in attendance to help the happy couple celebrate and Rev. Aaberg and Rev. Dyre officiated. The choir rendered several splendid selections. After the services a wedding dinner was served in the church basement and in the afternoon a short program was rendered.
The church was beautifully decorated in white, violet and gold streamers.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were both born near Trondhjem, Norway. Mr. Johnson came to America in 1871 and Mrs. Johnson in 1872. They came directly to Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) and are therefore pioneer settlers of this vicinity, living here over fifty years. They were united in marriage her on Sept. 20, 1874. The wedding took place in a house that at that time was located where the P.E. Peterson building now stands.
After their marriage they lived in this city for nine years and then bought the farm east of the Greenwood Hotel on which they still reside.
Twelve children were born to them, of which six are living. Four of the children died in infancy, a daughter, Mrs. Ed Peterson, died at the age of 24 years and another daughter, Mrs. Jerry Vine, died at the age of 35 years. Those living are Mrs. John E. Johnson on route three, Oscar Johnson of Corinth, N.D., Arthur Johnson of Greenwood, Elmer Johnson of Greenwood, Mrs. Clarence Aaberg on route four and Leo Johnson at home with his parents. There are also eleven grandchildren.
Mr. Johnson has no living sisters or brothers, while Mrs. Johnson has four sisters and one brother, all residing in this vicinity.
Members of the congregation and other relatives and friends presented the happy couple with fifty dollars in gold besides some silver and paper money amounting in all to eighty-five dollars.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson are among our best known and highly respected citizens and the Gleaner joins their many friends in extending congratulations and best wishes for many more years of happy wedded life.

Last Sunday witnessed a happy gathering of the Fred Christen family, when all met at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Johnson, to celebrate the Johnson’s silver wedding anniversary. Miss Sylvia Christen, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Christen, and Oscar Johnson were united in marriage twenty-five years ago, and until recently their home was on farms in the town of Cleveland. A year and a half ago they purchased the Curran farm of 200 acres, and two extra 80’s, located on Highway 95, about four miles west of Hixton, one of the finest farms in west central Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson have three sons, who are greatly interested in agricultural pursuits and stock raising, and are enthusiastic partners on the farm. Sunday’s celebration was a happy one in every way.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter C. Johnson, residents of this community (Greenwood, Clark Co., Wis.) for almost half a century, observed their golden wedding anniversary on March 4, 1939 at their home four miles northeast of Greenwood.
Approximately 20 relatives and friends were present, including the Rev. and Mrs. M.K. Aaberg, the Rev. and Mrs. A.E. Norson, Mr. and Mrs. J. Aaberg and son, Clarence, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Johnson and daughter, Marie, all of Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. George Kuehl, Withee; and Mrs. Morris Anderson and son, Morris, Stevens Point.
Peter Johnson, who is 78 years old, was born in Norway and came to the United States with his parents when he was 6 years old. The family settled at Black River Falls.
Mrs. Johnson, who is 70 years of age, was also born in Norway, and came to Black river Falls at the age of 16 years. The couple were married at Black River Falls on March 4, 1889, and lived there a few years before moving to Longwood. Later they moved to their present farm at Greenwood, where they have resided for more than 30 years.
They have four children: Mrs. Morris (Julia) Anderson, Stevens Point; Paul Johnson, Sullivan, Ind.; Mrs. Elmer (Mabel) Johnson, Greenwood; and Mrs. George (Nola) Kuehl, Withee. One daughter, Mrs. Cora Vangsness, died several years ago.
There are 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson formerly of Nashotah, now of Abbotsford and Chelsea, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter, Hannah, at Chelsea, on Sunday, June 1, 1941. Rev. and Mrs. Thure Johnson celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary Sunday at the home of their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Mantik, route 1, Abbotsford. Rev. Johnson and the former Agnes Asplund were married Aug. 2, 1914 at Wilton, N. Dak. They are the parents of eight children and grand parents of 34 and great grand parents of five.
The 50th anniversary was celebrated last year at Bismark, N. Dak., with all but one son present, and with appropriate formal ceremony and renewal of vows.
Present on Sunday were four daughters and their families: Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Jensen with David and Karen, Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Mantik with Rachael, Betsy, Pat, Joanie, Carol, Mike, Debbie and Randy, Mrs. And Mrs. Alvin Venzke with Dan, Steve, Johnny, Allan and Tamie Joy, all of Abbotsford, and Rev. and Mrs. Wilbur Mandigo with Cindy, Denny and Pamie, of East Moline, Ill.
On Monday evening the same group were at the Elmer Jensen home for anniversary cake.
Rev. and Mrs. Johnson are presently visiting in this area for an indefinite period.

ROBERT JOHNSONS CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY--1946
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Johnson were honor guest of the Danish congregation Weednesday evening at the Assembly hall, the occasion being their Golden Wedding Anniversary. About 125 neighbors and friends enjoyed with them a pleasant evening. Rev. Bundgaard and Rev. Dixen gave very interesting talks. A delicious lunch was served. A beautiful gold and white wedding cake adorned the bride and groom's table.
During the day a family dinner was served at the home of their own home during the afternoon. Those from away who were present were Mr. and Mrs. Victor Hermanson and daughter from Hay Springs, and Mr. and Mrs. Al Jansan of Milwaukee.

On Sunday, July 1, 1951 relatives and friends helped Mr. and Mrs. Harris Jolivette celebrate their Silver Wedding Anniversary at their home northeast of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.).
190 guests were entertained for dinner, afternoon and evening. The tables were prettily decorated and centered by a three-tiered wedding cake baked by Mrs. Ralph Dusso of Loyal.
Mrs. Jolivette, nee Beulah Robertson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Robertson, was married to Harris Jolivette in Greenwood on June 30, 1926. They resided in Abbotsford for some time and came to their present home 4 years ago.
They have three daughters, Mrs. John (Geraldine) Brown, Milwaukee, Maybell and Mary Lou at home, and four grandchildren.

One-hundred twenty-five relatives and friends attended an open house to celebrate of the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harris Jollivette at their home, five miles northeast of Greenwood.
The event was hosted by their children, who, with 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, were present.
Mrs. Jollivette wore a corsage of blue and white carnations and her husband had a white carnation boutonniere.
Harris Jollivette and Beulah Robertson were married June 30, 1926, in the Grace Methodist Church parsonage with the Rev. T.O. Thompson officiating.
Harris Jollivette, son of Isadore and Maria Jollivette was born in La Crosse on April 6, 1901. He was educated in the La Crosse schools. He came to Greenwood with his parents in 1941 and they settled on the present farm. The former Beulah Robertson, daughter of Macellan and Louise Robertson was born September 11, 1909 in Greenwood and received her education in the Greenwood schools.
After their marriage they farmed in Riplinger, Curtiss and Abbotsford before they bought the Jollivette homestead in 1947. They retired from farming in 1959. They sold the farm land a year ago and continue to live in the house on Route 3, 5 miles northeast of Greenwood.
Mr. Jollivette served on the Town of Beaver board for 5 years. He is in fair health and likes to go on trips and fishing.
Mrs. Jollivette enjoys sewing, quilting, rug making and fishing, she is in good health.
The honored couple are the parents of 3 daughters, Mrs. John (Geraldine) Brown of La Crosse, Mrs. Herman (Maydell) Hilgers of Racine, and Mrs. Carl (Mary Lou) Ditto of La Crosse. They also have 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A three tiered decorated wedding cake made by Ruth Pozanski, served as centerpiece on the table for the meal served.
A grandchild, Kathy Hilgers was in charge of the guest book, which she presented to her grandparents.
The flowers were a gift from three great-grandchildren, Cliff, Tary and Geraldine Brown.
Besides their three daughters and their families and grandchildren present were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Koster and son Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Rautio and son John, and Sandra Brown all of Milwaukee: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brown and three children and Carol Brown all of La Crosse. Other relatives and friends came from Manhattan, Kansas; Mesa, Arizona; Holcombe, Abbotsford, Medford, Marshfield, and surrounding area.
The honored couple received many gifts and congratulatory messages.

Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Josephson, Spencer, route 1, celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary at their farm home on Saturday, October 3.
A reception was held at 3 o’clock and a buffet luncheon was served at 5 o’clock. A three tier wedding cake topped with the numerals 25 and a silver ornament centered the table which also featured white and silver lighted candles. A social time added to the afternoon’s entertainment. About 100 relatives and friends attended the event.
In the evening a dance was held at the Colby Park with Howie Sturtz furnishing the music. Mr. and Mrs. Josephson received many lovely gifts as mementos of the occasion.
Edgar Josephson and Miss Lucille Monthe were united in marriage at St. John’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. A. F. Ziehlsdorf on October 4, 1928.

About thirty-five relatives and friends were entertained at dinner in the Trinity Lutheran Church basement Sunday in honor of the 65th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Josephson. The anniversary was really on the 29th but was celebrated Sunday because it would have been impossible for some to be present on Monday. In the afternoon the group went to the Josephson home where the time was spent in visiting and later in the day a buffet supper was served at the church.
A special short service was held at the regular morning worship service at the church in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Josephson, at which time a duet "Oh Perfect Love" was sung by Mrs. Henry Binning and Rev. Vander Stoep.
Mr. Josephson was born in Finland April 9th, 1866 and Mrs. Josephson was born in Finland November 17th, 1866. They were married in Finland September 29th, 1887 and in 1901 Mr. Josephson came to America to make a home for the family who followed him in 1905 and settled in Massachusetts and later, came to Wisconsin. They lived in Unity forty-seven years.
Mr. and Mrs. Josephson were the parents of eight children of whom only three are living, Mrs. Howard (Fanny) Boyer, and Edgar, Unity; and Mrs. Fred (Hilda) Mooney of Rhinelander.
Those from out of town who were present Sunday were Mrs. Fred Mooney, Rhinelander; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson, Rhinelander; Charles Boyer, Elgin, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. James O’Brien of Chili; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Nelson and family; Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Josephson, Marshfield.
The Josephson’s were presented with a basket of flowers from the church and a plant from the ladies aid. The couple are very active and their garden, which they care for themselves, might be considered their hobby. Mrs. Josephson attends church service and ladies aid regularly and walks to the store to do her shopping while Mr. helps in the garden and with the lawn and does small repair jobs around the home. He repaired the chimney recently. Both are keen minded and alert and enjoy visiting with the neighbors who call to see them. Mr. Josephson was handicapped for some time a few years ago when he sustained a broken hip.

Unity, Wis. - (Special) - An unusual celebration was observed on Sunday when relatives and friends gathered in the parlors of Trinity Lutheran Church to celebrate the 65th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Josephson.
Centering the long tables where places for 44 guests were set for dinner and supper was a two-tiered wedding cake decorated with miniature bride and groom ornaments.
Initiating the day’s activities was a service in the church in which the couple were especially honored by the pastor, the Rev. Claude Vander Stoep. Among the gifts received were a basket of gladioli and chrysanthemums from the congregation and a blooming plant from the Ladies Aid Society, of which Mrs. Josephson is an honorary member.
Mrs. Josephson, the former Emma Johnson, was born Sept. 17, 1865, in Finland, which was also the birthplace of her husband on April 9, 1866. They both attended schools in Finland and were married Sept. 29, 1887, in Kristina.
In 1902 Mr. Josephson emigrated to the United States settling in Massachusetts. About four years later when his wife and family joined him, they came to the Town of Unity, Wisconsin where they lived for approximately 24 years. Since their retirement to the village, the home farm is being operated by their son, Edgar.
Besides their son, Edgar, the couple are the parents of two daughters, Mrs. Fred Mooney, Rhinelander, and Mrs. Howard Boyer, Town of Brighton. There are 13 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In summer Mrs. Josephson enjoys working in her garden. She also performs all her own household duties. Mr. Josephson suffered a broken leg in a fall several years ago. At that time he was confined to the hospital for over four months.

About 150 guests were present at the Open House at Trinity Church Sunday to honor Mr. and Mrs. Alfred W. Justman on their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
An informal program of reminiscence was enjoyed and the choir, of which Mr. Justman is director, sang "Bless This House" and their grandchildren, Marilyn and Bob Messer sang "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and Marilyn sang "May The Good Lord Bless and Keep You." Pastor Langseth read words of Scripture and a massed choir of former and present members sang "Blessed Be The Tie That Binds."
A buffet supper was served to immediate relatives at 5 P.M.
Mrs. Justman’s corsage was of yellow roses and white mums and Mr. Justman wore a yellow mum.
Mr. and Mrs. Justman, the former Hilda E. Johnson, were married in the Colby parsonage March 29, 1911 traveling to Colby in a surrey with fringe on top, by Rev. Hartenstein.
Mrs. Justman lived in the Town of Unity all her life. Mr. Justman came from Theresa and Mrs. Justman September 25, 1892. They are both in good health.
They farmed southwest of the village for 40 years on the farm now owned by their son-in-law, Ansel Messer. Mr. Justman also operated a portable saw mill with his brother, Roy, for 30 years. For 15 years after his marriage he directed a band in Unity and also, with his brother, Roy, and sister, Minnie Matteson, played for dances.
The couple has a daughter, Mrs. Ansel (Myrl) Messer, Unity, and a foster son, Charles Justman of Oshkosh, whom they raised since early childhood. There are 6 grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Justman who were attendants at the wedding 50 years ago were present for the event Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Malen Juzwiak, Thorp (Clark Co.), Wisconsin, who were married 25 years ago, celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary Saturday, June 19, 1971.
The couple married was blessed by Father Matzek at St. Hedwig's Chapel at an 11 o'clock Mass of Thanksgivng, where they exchanged promises for 25 years.
A 12 o'clock lunch was served at the home of the couple for 60 guests, and a 6:30 dinner was served at the parish hall by St. Hedwig's Ladies Guild for 260 guests. Mrs. Edward Kotecki was hostess.
Music was furnished by the Diamondirs of Withee, Wisconsin.
Table were decorated with bud vases of silver roses and a centerpiece of lilies, roses, and silver, made by Mrs. Emil Kotowski of Lublin, and her daughter, Mrs. Jim Olson.
With their parents for the day were the couple's two children, Malen Jr., at home, and Betty (Mrs. Ben Szymanski) and son of Mound, Minnesota.
Among the guests were seven of the ten original wedding party. Attending were: Tony Yaron, Dorchester, Wis., Casey Yaron, Lublin, Frank Penkala, Thorp, Frank Juzwik, Glenview, Ill., Roz Wojtkiewicz (Hennessey), Chicago, Ill., Carol Gajda (Shimel), Tony, Wis., Lucille Piwoni (Szemraj), Lublin, Marcy Budrus, Lublin.
The other three that were unable to attend were: George Chavrnos, Los Angeles, California, Stella Kinal, Chicago, Ill., and Elva Pederson, Thorp.

The children and grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Juzwiak of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) honored their parents and grandparents by inviting relatives, neighbors and friends to a Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration on Sunday, June 28, 1959, at St. Hedwig’s Church in Thorp. A solemn high mass of Thanksgiving at 8:30 was celebrated by Rev. Discher. The honored couple was escorted by two of the original attendants, Mr. Joseph Wiesniewski and Mrs. Anton Dombrowski (sister of the bride) to the altar decorated for the golden anniversary, to renew their original vows. St. Hedwig’s choir sang under the directed of Mr. Al Ciolkosz. As Mr. and Mrs. Walter Juzwiak were leaving the church their 2 ½-year-old great-granddaughter, Mary Hennessey, present her great-grandmother with a bouquet of 50 yellow roses, which was a gift from their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dinner for approximately 125 relatives and out of town guests was served at 12:30 p.m. in St. Hedwig’s Parish Hall. A reception began at 5:30 p.m. with dinner served to 450 relatives, neighbors and friends, followed by dancing to the music of the Bloomer Dutchman Orchestra. At 11 p.m. lunch was served and a five tier wedding cake, decorated for the occasion and baked by her granddaughter, Mrs. William Hennessey, was cut by the honored couple and given to the guests.
For the morning celebration the bride of fifty years was attired in a champagne wool lace dress with matching accessories and wore a yellow rose corsage. The groom of fifty years wore a blue gray suit and had a yellow rose boutonniere. The sons and sons-in-law also had a yellow rose boutonniere, while the daughters and daughters-in-law wore a yellow rose corsage, and other relatives and guests wore a beautiful golden leaf.
In the evening the bride of fifty years wore a beige silk brocaded dress with matching accessories.
Walter Juzwiak and Florence Piwoni were united in marriage at St. Stanislaus Church in Lublin, Wis. on June 28, 1909.
All of their 8 children, 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren were present for this Golden Wedding Anniversary and are as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Juzwiak and children, James and Joyce of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wojtkiewicz (Lottie) and son Frank Jr. of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Malen Juzwiak and children Betty, June and Malen Jr., Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Panek (Helen) and children Diane, Paulette and Allen, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Juzwiak and children Frank Jr., Kenneth and Janice of Ft. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Justman celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at the Unity Trinity Lutheran Church parlors Sunday afternoon, with an "open house," followed by a buffet supper for immediate relatives. The table was decorated with a beautiful anniversary cake and pink candles. Mrs. Justman had a pink rose corsage and Mrs. Justman a single pink rose boutonniere.
Mr. and Mrs. Justman were married on March 29, 1911. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Justman were attendants. Mrs. Roy Justman, a sister of Mrs. Justman, passed away in December 1970.
The Justmans farmed in the town of Unity (Clark Co., Wis.) until 20 years ago, when they moved to Unity. They are parents of a daughter, Mrs. Ansel (Myrtle) Messer, who lives with her husband on the home farm. They had a foster son, Charles, now deceased. There are six grandchildren dn three great-grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Justman are in excellent health, although Mrs. Justman broke an ankle four weeks ago and had to attend the festivities in a wheel chair. Her hobby is fancy work and Mr. Justman enjoys working in his saw shop.

A family gathering was held on Friday evening at the Redwood Supper Club, Unity, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Justman’s 63rd Wedding Anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Justman of Unity celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, Oct. 25, 1964, at the Trinity Lutheran Church dining room.
Dinner was served to immediate relatives at 12:30 p.m. Several songs were sung by Pastor Langseth, Sudan Justman and Barbara Messer, accompanied by Kathie Justman. Open house was held at the church basement from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
A corsage of yellow roses and mums was worn by Mrs. Justman.
Roy Justman and Emma Johnson were married at the Colby Lutheran Parsonage Oct. 29, 1914.
Mrs. Ed Domer, sister of the bride, who now resides in Oshkosh, was the only original attendant present.
The couple purchased the family farm and lived there until 1947, and then moved to Unity where they now live.
Mr. Justman was born at Theresa, Dodge Co., Wis., and came to Unity at the age of nine with his parents to a farm southwest of Unity. He is a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Unity, and served on the church board and has been a member of the choir since 1921. He also served as a school board member several times.
Mr. Justman enjoys good health and is an enthusiastic baseball fan and a lifetime musician.
Mrs. Justman was born in the Township of Unity (Clark Co., Wis.). She is also a member of the Lutheran Church in Unity and a member of the LCW. For he hobbies she enjoysin knitting and has kept scrap books of interesting news articles since 1907.
Their son, Merlin Justman, now resides on the home farm. Two other sons, Marvin and Roy Jr. are deceased. The couple has four grandchildren.
Many friends and relatives from neighboring vicinities greeted the couple.
