The Rev. and Mrs. F.A. Fahlgren will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, June 25. The Rev. Fahlgren was pastor of the Neillsville United Methodist Church from 1943-1948.

A family affair is planned. They have five children and ten grandchildren. They reside at 903 Eleventh St. Monroe.

The 25th anniversary party for Earl and Vada Falconer was held September 30, 1973 at the Municipal Building in Spencer from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. by their children, Elaine and Larry.

The hall was decorated in silver and white.

Many friends and relatives gathered to help them celebrate their big day.

Activities for the day were square dancing and regular dancing, and visiting with everyone.

The anniversary cake was made and decorated by friends of the couple. They were Alice Verhulst and Carolyn Zawadzki. They also di the honors of serving it at the supper, which was served at 4 p.m.

The very happy and wonderful day will long be remembered by Earl and Vada, and they want to thank their children and everyone for the very wonderful day.

Alice Benedict took care of the guests book for the day. Guests were present from Belvidere, Ill., Lanark, Ill., Marengo, Ill., Caledonia, Ill., Rochelle, Ill., Kingston, Ill., La Crosse, Wis., Neillsville, Marshfield, Spencer, Madison, Chili and Loyal.

They received many nice gifts.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Feala celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Tuesday, Sept. 8. The festivities began with a high mass at 9:00 o’clock at St. Bernard’s Catholic church, before which the honored couple repeated their marriage vows. The Rev. Raymond Schulz officiated at the ceremonies.
 

Dinner, served at noon at the home, was attended by the four children of Mr. and Mrs. Feala, and their families. A large gold cake, beautifully decorated, served as the centerpiece at the table. Baskets of deep, yellow gladioli were used in the church and home decorations.
 

For the occasion, Mrs. Feala wore a blue dress with an orchid corsage pinned to the shoulder.
 

In the evening, friends and neighbors came to give them an old fashioned charivari.
 

Mrs. Feala was born Christine Picha June 29, 1880, in Manistique, Mich. When she was six years old, her parents moved to a farm in the town of Holton.
 

Mr. Feala was born in Milwaukee, Dec. 26, 1879. His parents moved to a farm, also in the town of Holton, when he was about two years old.
 

These two young people were married at St. Louis’ Catholic church, at Dorchester, Sept. 8, 1903. For two years they lived on a farm in the town of Holton, now owned by Nic Heindl. During this time they built the house in Abbotsford, just north of the Leo Banditt home, on Second Street. They resided there about 25 years and then purchased the 15-acre property in the town of Holton, which borders the east limits of the Village of Abbotsford.
 

Mr. Feala was a farmer, tiler, carpenter, machinist, and car repair man.
 

The children attending the golden wedding celebration were: Mr. and Mrs. David Feala and sons, David, Robert, Russell, and Christofer, of Detroit, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. William (Leone) Fleming and children, William, Judith, and the twins, David and Daniel, of Evanston, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence (Dorothy) Sorenson, and children, Betty, Carol, and Mary, of Clio, Mich.; and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Feala and daughters, Karen and Patricia, of Evanston, Ill.
 

Two of the 15 grand children were unable to attend: James Sorenson, in the Air Force in Labrador, and Eugene Sorenson, Flint, Mich.

A reception was held, Tuesday, July 6 at the George Fecker farm, southeast of Colby to observe the golden wedding anniversaries of Mr. and Mrs. George Fecker and Mr. and Mrs. William Fecker.

The double wedding, two sisters and two brothers, took place at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill, in Manitowoc county, July 6, 1898, when Angela Schaller was married to William Fecker and Adeline Schaller was married to George Fecker.

Angela Schaller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Schaller, was born on a farm at School Hill, Sept. 23, 1871, one of seven children. At the age of three years, her parents moved to a farm southwest of Colby, Wis. Before her marriage, Mrs. Fecker worked in the hotels at Colby and at Dorchester and for a time at Phillips. Her parents moved back to School Hill about 1897 and she joined them later that year and was married in the summer of 1898 to William Fecker.

Mr. Fecker, one of nine children, was born in Centerville, in Manitowoc county, March 3, 1872, to Mr. and Mrs. George Fecker, and lived on a farm with his parents. When only about 12 years old he began work in a cheese factory and about 1897 owned his own cheese factory at School Hill. He continued there until 1914 when he bought the Green Valley Cheese Factory, six miles east of Colby, Wis. Seven years later he sold this but continued to work as a cheese maker for a few years.

In 1923 they moved to the village of Abbotsford, Wis.

Mr. and Mrs. Fecker have three daughters, Mrs. George (Sylvia) Kass, of Milwaukee; Mrs. Edward (Irene) Prechel, of Creve Coeuer, Ill., and Mrs. Dwight (Magdelen) Shumaker, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

There are six grand children, Chester, Sylvia, Dolores, and Peter Kass, and Darlene, Edward, Jr., and Darrel Prechel.

A reception was held Tuesday, July 6, at the George Fecker farm southeast of Colby, to observe the golden wedding anniversaries of Mr. and Mrs. George Fecker and Mr. and Mrs. William Fecker.

Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Feind celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at a 6:30 P.M. dinner served 65 guests at the Zion Lutheran church parlors Saturday, Oct. 25, 1952, after which open house was held for relatives and friends at the Feind home in Colby, Wisconsin.

Mrs. Feind, nee Amanda Wiedenhoeft, was born in Brownsville, Wis., on April 14, 1880, and moved to Colby in October, 1893. Mr. Feind was born in Chilton, Wis., on July 23, 1870, and moved to Colby in 1873. They were married in Zion Lutheran church in Colby, Wisconsin on October 30, 1902. Mr. Feind is a retired farmer.

They have nine children - Mrs. E. W. (Elsie) Schulz of Colby, Julius Feind of Rochester, Minn., Adeline Feind, Ernest Feind and Mrs. Norman (Laura) Marsh of Colby, Verna, Irene and Alida Feind of Milwaukee and Arthur Feind of Rochester, Minn.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Fenske of Dorchester celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, Sept. 1, 1968. The event began with family attendance at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Dorchester. A special prayer was offered by the Rev. F.H. Sprengler for the honored couple and Paul Nixdorf sang "Jesus, Lead Thou On."

A family dinner was held at Memorial Hall, Dorchester, and open house for friends and relatives took place from 2 to 5 o'clock. A special anniversary cake, made and decorated by Mrs. Fenske's half-sister, Miss Elsie Bremer of Abbotsford, centered the table.

Albert Fenske, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Fenske, was born at Gillett Nov. 19, 1896. Mrs. Fenske, the former Minnie Majewski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Majewski, was also born at Gillett March 12, 1899. Their marriage took place Dec. 11, 1918, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Fred Moecker officiating.

After their marriage they farmed in the town of Mayville (Clark Co., Wis.) until 1958, when they retired. They then lived in Abbotsford until about three years ago, when they moved to Dorchester. Mr. Fenske works part time at Streckert Manufacturing, Abbotsford. Mr. Fenske was a town supervisor for the town of Mayville. Both Mr. and Mrs. Fenske are members of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Dorchester, and Mrs. Fenske is a member of the Ladies' Aid.

The children and 13 of the 15 grandchildren were home for the anniversary celebration. They are Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fenske and family, Dorchester, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Fenske and family, Ellsworth, Mr. and Mrs. Carl (La Vera) Slattengren and Carla of Hayward, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Alden (Elayne) Emmerich and family of Joliet, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Marlis) Klieforth of Neillsville. Another son, Edwin, is deceased.

Two grandsons in service, DuWayne Fenske, with the Air Force in Denver, Colo., and Jerry Fenske of the Air Force, Mather AFB, Calif., were here for the celebration, while two more grandsons in service, Michael and Gary Slattengren, U.S. Navy, San Diego, Calif., expect to be sent to Vietnam soon and were unable to come.

Mr. and Mrs. Emil (Anna Majewski) Neuman of Oconomowoc, and Mrs. Frieda Busse Seehafer of Marshfield, attendants at the wedding were present for the celebration. The fourth attendant, Fed Moecker Jr., is deceased.

Others from away came from Menomonee, Mich., Joliet, Ill., Oconto Falls, Milwaukee, Fort Atkinson, Oconomowoc, Ixonis, Eden, Marshfield and Abbotsford. 

Marquardt, Mr./Mrs. Ferdinand (Gold Anniv-29 OCT 1917)

Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Marquardt celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding last Monday, Oct. 29, 1917, at their home in the town of Green Grove, Clark County, Wis., about ninety guests being present.

The home was very tastily decorated and in the preparations for the event not one detail was overlooked to make an occasion which will be long remembered by their children, grandchildren, relatives and friends who were there. Mr. and Mrs. Marquardt did all the planning themselves and it all turned out in the same precise, efficient and pleasant manner, which has characterized them during the time they have lived here.

At 7 o'clock in the evening, in the presence of the guests assembled, Rev. A. Behrendt read the golden wedding ceremony, the sons and daughters of the couple acting as groomsmen and bridesmaids. After the ceremony all sat down to a bounteous supper. When the tables were cleared the guests proceeded to enjoy themselves to the utmost until all were dog tired and ready to quit.

Mr. and Mrs. Marquardt were married in Gross Tuechen, Pommern, Germany, on Oct. 29, 1867. They came to this country in August 1869, settling at Iron Ridge, Dodge Co., Wis, where they lived three eyars, then moved to Toledo, Ohio. They came to Colby on March 5, 1875, and took up a homestead in the town of Green Grove and during that time have lived on this same place, where they raised a large family, prospered and gained the respect and good will of all those with who they have come in contact.

All their living children were present as follows: Mrs. Julius Kobs of Green Grove, Albert of San Francisco, Cal., Charles of Green Grove, Mrs. Charles Huhn of the town of Hull, Herman of Milan, Mrs. G. Meihold of Greenwood, Mrs. George Tesmer of Colby, Fred of Abbotsford, Frank of the town of Hamburg, Dora of Chicago and Ben at home. A daughter, Mrs. Wm. Krueger of Chicago, died three years ago. Twenty-five grandchildren were also present.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Feuerstein, Neillsville, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday, September 29, with relatives and friends attending a 4:30 mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

As Father Joseph Henseler celebrated the mass, Ronald Resong served as organist. Three granddaughters, Kristine and Linda Frank and Sarah Noll, carried the offertory gifts to the altar. The original attendants were present for the occasion, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Burr, Marion Feuerstein and Edwin Freund.

Mrs. Feuerstein wore a teal blue dress with a corsage of white sweetheart roses and lilies of the valley. He wore a navy-blue suit and a while rose boutonniere. The couple were married October 2, 1929, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Bakersville. Father Herbert Hoffman performed the ceremony.

Martin was born in Marshfield and attended schools there. He was employed by Lang and Sharmann until he came to Neillsville the year before his marriage when he and Earl Bruhn started operating the B&F Machine Shop. He retired in 1971. Since then, Martin has enjoyed his hobby shop at his home and also enjoys fishing. He has been on the Neillsville City Council the past 15 years. He is known as “Max” to his many friends. He also likes to run the big steam engine in various parades.

Mrs. Feuerstein, the former Susie Freund, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Freund, was born in McIntire, Iowa. She came with her parents to Wisconsin in 1916. She attended schools in Iowa and Bakersville. She enjoys their vegetable and flower garden, and her hobbies are needle work and crocheting Afghans.

A 6:30 dinner was served to the family and relatives on Saturday evening at the Wildcat Inn. The cake top was made by their daughter, Lorraine, using some of the ribbon from the bridal bouquet of 50 years ago. On Sunday, September 30, a reception was hosted by their children and grandchildren from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Wildcat Inn.

Their children are Mrs. Gilbert (Cynthia) Frank, Oshkosh; Ms. Lorraine Noll, Two Rivers; Mrs. John (Kathryn) Negaard, Stevens Point; and Mrs. Kier (Janet) Cline, Evanston, Ill. They also have 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Out-of-town guests included Mr./Mrs. Gilbert Frank & children, Mr./Mrs. Peter Frank, Mrs. Mike Kufel and Jeff Steiner, of Oshkosh; Mr/Mrs. Steve Frank and Mrs. Rick Robinson & two sons, Appleton; Mary Frank, New Rochelle, N.Y.; Lorraine Noll & children, Two Rivers; Mr./Mrs. John Negaard & son, Stevens Point; Marion Feuerstein, Mrs. Walter Freund & sons, Mr./Mrs. Norman Freund & son, Mr./Mrs. Myron Freund & children, Mr./Mrs. Kenneth Burr, all of Marshfield; and Mr./Mrs. Merlyn Freund, Junction City.

Pastor and Mrs. Robin Fink celebrated their silver wedding anniversary on Sunday, with a noon dinner for about 60 relatives and friends.

A personal friend of Pastor Fink, the Reverend Donald Gerlach, Park Falls, officiated at the 1:30 services, in which the Finks renewed their marriage vows. Their daughter-in-law’s sang “The 23rd Psalm” and “A Perfect Love,” with Kathy Schultz as organist.

Mr. and Mrs. I. M. Firnstahl were in Seattle, Wash., several days last week where they attended the golden wedding anniversary of the former’s brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gorman Firnstahl.

Saturday evening, October 26, 1965, Mr. and Mrs. I. M. Firnstahl were the guests of their sons and daughters for a surprise forty-fifth wedding anniversary dinner at the Colby Hotel. Those present honoring their parents were Mr. and Mrs. Angus Lamont and children, Kathy, Mary, Donna, Peggy, and Mike, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Firnstahl and daughters, Diane and Cindy, Wausau, Jerry H. Firnstahl, sister of I.M. Firnstahl, Wausau, who was one of the bridesmaids at the wedding.

The grandchildren of the honored couple present them with a corsage and a boutonniere. The corsage for Mrs. Firnstahl was of chrysanthemums and adorned with sapphires, while Mr. Firnstahl’s boutonniere was a yellow chrysanthemum. Following the dinner, an evening of entertainment was enjoyed at the Firnstahl home.

Mr. and Mrs. Norman F. Firnstahl and children, Connie and Ebba, St. Louis, Missouri, were unable to attend, although they sent their very best wishes.

An open house was held Saturday afternoon, October 24, 1970, in the First United Church of Christ parlors to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Isadore M. Firnstahl.

On Saturday evening at 8 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Firnstahl attended an anniversary mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Francis Rushman officiating.

Music for the mass, under the direction of Paul Firnstahl, was sung by Joe Stieber, Dan Singstock, Bill Meyer and Alan Becker, all of Colby, and Jerry Wiedenfeld of Beloit.

A late evening dinner was served at the Colby Hotel for the Firnstahl family.

The honored couple received from their grandchildren a corsage of an orchid surrounded by gold chrysanthemums and a gold chrysanthemum boutonniere.

Other flowers for the occasion included arrangements of gold chrysanthemum at the side altars of St. Mary's Church, and a large floral arrangement of yellow roses for the main altar.

The couple's four children are Norman of St. Louis, Missouri, now the State Department in Saigon; Jerry of Jefferson, Wisconsin, Mrs. Angus (Virginia) Lamont, Colby, and Paul of Colby.

They have 13 grandchildren.

Isadore M. Firnstahl was born July 20, 1895, to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Firnstahl, at Colby. He received his education at Colby and lived on the farm prior to his marriage.

He was also with the U.S. Army in World War I, having served with a supply company in the European theater.

Lillian Lystad, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter O Lystad, was born at Elbow Lake, Minnesota, and received her education at Sauk Centre and St. Cloud, Minnesota.

She was a bookkeeper at Sauk Centre before their marriage.

On October 26, 1920, Lillian Lystad and Isadore Firnstahl were united in marriage by Rev. Anthony Arzt at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. After their wedding they farmed in the twon of Hull (Marathon Co., Wis.) for several years, and owned and operated stores in St. Joseph, Minnesota, Minneapolis, and Colby, where Mr. Firnstahl was manager of the Colby Implement before retirement in 1953.

She has been a member of the Christian Mothers Society for the past 50 years.

Mr. Firnstahl has held several local offices, including chairman of the town of Hull, and Legion Commander.

The couple now live in the city of Colby, and at their summer home on Harper's Lake.

They are both in good health. He enjoys hunting, fishing and playing cards, while she spends her time gardening and doing needlework.

Among the many well-wishers attending the celebrated was Miss Lona Firnstahl, the only surviving attendant at their 1920 wedding.

Other honors bestowed on the couple to honor their golden anniversary was a reception at the October 13 meeting of the Ray Firnstahl Post 266 of the American Legion and their Auxiliary. And a breakfast on Sunday morning at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Firnstahl, Colby.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Firnstahl of Colby celebrated their fiftieth or golden wedding anniversary at their home last Friday afternoon and evening. The reception was arranged by their relatives in this vicinity and was a surprise for them with only immediate relatives of this vicinity being present.

Mr. Firnstahl was born in Vienna, Austria, and came to Colby in 1875 with his parents. Mrs. Firnstahl, nee Barbara Weix, was born in Leroy, Wis., and lived there eighteen years before coming here with her parents, her brother, Mike, and her sister, Mrs. Henry Schraufnagel. They were married at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby April 25th, 1880, and located on a piece of wild land about two miles east of Colby. By diligent and hard work they built a splendid farm out of this wilderness which is now owned by their youngest son, Isadore. They have two other sons, Gorman, in the wholesale and fruit canning business at Seattle, Washington, and Otto, a general store manager at Almany, Minn. They also have two daughters, Mrs. A. E. Osborn and Miss Leona Firnstahl, R. N., both of Wausau. Also fifteen grand children. In 1922, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Firnstahl moved to the city of Colby from the farm.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Firnstahl have always had the respect and esteem of everyone in the community which is shown by the number of public offices Mr. Firnstahl has held. He was treasurer of the town of Hull for six years, and assessor for eight; has been director, agent and treasurer of the Hull Town Mutual Insurance Company the past twenty-three years; is a director of the Security State Bank which institution he helped organize; is supervisor of the second ward of the city of Colby; and is also director of the Colby graded school district.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Firnstahl can recall many experiences of the early days. There were no roads as we have them today, but merely trails through the woods, and when anyone came to town, it was necessary to take an axe along, in case a tree fell over the road. Oxen, for the most part, were the means of travel, and, when those living four miles or more from town came to Colby, it was considered a day’s task. Colby had no banks or garages at that time and nobody ever dreamed that there ever would be such a thing as an automobile. Many who were here at that time, according to Mr. Firnstahl, would have left if they could, but could not get out. Although the Soo Line, then the Wisconsin Central, only went as far as Medford, Colby was quite a town and contained a drug store, two hardware stores, two shoe repair shops, three general stores, flour and feed store, hotel, boarding house and a dozen hair salons. The principal income of settlers came from the sale of wood and logs and several large saw mills were in operations in this section.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl (Martha "Tudie") Fischer of Colby celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 25 at the VFW Hall, Colby,

Prayers were said at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby, the speaker being their daughter, Mrs. Norman (Patsy) Lang. Dinner, dance and open house followed.

Fischer was born to Mr. and Mrs. Adolph (Elizabeth) Fischer January 24, 1904 in Germany. He was 4 when he came to America with his parents. His wife, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George (Emma) Schultz, was born December 25, 1914 in the Town of Holton. Her 91-year-old mother resides in Fairview Apartments, Colby.

The Fischers were married May 25, 1933 at Christ Lutheran Church, Abbotsford, the Rev. John Brandt officiating.

Fischer hauled milk for White House Milk Co., Abbotsford, and did other trucking for more than 50 years. In 1976 the trucking business was sold. Mrs. Fischer worked at Colby Cheese Box Factory and did babysitting.

They lived all their married life in Colby; from 1936 at their present address, 501 N. Third St. Mrs. Fischer retired in 1977 and her husband the previous year. He enjoys fishing and hunting; she sewing, reading and traveling. They are members of Zion Lutheran Church, Colby.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Fischer, Unity, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Saturday evening, February 8, 1969 at Don Colby’s.

The celebration was attended by about 175 friends and relatives of the Fischers.

The wedding cake was baked by Mrs. Clayton Wescott.

Refreshments and a lunch were served and cards were also played.

The Fischer’s would like to than everyone for attending and also for the cards and gifts they received.

Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Fischer, Unity, were guests of honor at a surprise party given at the Herbert Sauer home Saturday evening in observance of the Fischer’s 40th wedding anniversary. Friends, relatives and neighbors who attended were from Marshfield, Spencer, Colby, Unity, Abbotsford and Stratford.

Cards provided the evenings entertainment, and one guest performed several musical selections on his concertina. The anniversary couple then opened the many gifts received before the pot luck lunch was served.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter R. Fischer of Unity were honored at a surprise party on Sunday at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Neuman, the occasion being the Fischer’s 35th wedding anniversary.

All of their nine children and their families were present for the first time in eight years.

A two tired wedding cake served as a centerpiece for the table and Mrs. Fischer wore a corsage of roses. The honored couple received many gifts and a purse of money.

In the evening other friends and relatives gathered. Cards and Bingo were played and prizes were won at Sheephead by Ed. Meacham, H. F. Seefeld and Mrs. Ira Meacham and at Bingo by Mrs. H. F. Seefeldt and Mrs. Albert Seefeldt.

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Fischer are Mrs. H. W. Neuman and Mrs. Arnold Seefeldt, Spencer; Ray, Loretta, Michigan; Donald, Colby; Mrs. Cyril Adder, Loyal; Mrs. Irving Bennett, Miss Darlene Fischer, Marshfield; and Richard and Geraldine at home, Unity.

Out of town guests present were a sister and brother-in-law of Mrs. Fischer, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ehlert of Vesper.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Fisher of Route 2, Spencer were honored at a 40th wedding anniversary party Sunday afternoon and evening at the Sherman Town Hall, given by their children.

Mr. Fisher and the former Amanda Giloy were married at St. John’s Reformed Church in Humbird (Clark Co.), Wisconsin on October 22, 1930. They farmed in the Veefkind area all their married life, until retiring 2 1/2 years ago. After retiring they built a cottage near Cable, where they reside part of the time.

They have one daughter, Mrs. Everett (Betty) Smith of Spencer, one son, Jon, of Spencer, and five grandchildren.

A buffet supper was served to approximately 70 relatives and friends from Milwaukee, Wisconsin Rapids, Antigo, Marshfield, Humbird, Loyal and Spencer.

It’s not often in a small town to have two golden wedding anniversaries and one 55th close together.

On March 21 Mr. and Mrs. Levi Fitzmaurice celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary by holding open house at the American Legion Hall. The event was hosted by their children, Mrs. Ed (Hazel) Holub and her husband of Neillsville, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Fitzmaurice of Cavour, S. D. and Mildred at home.

There were guests from Eau Claire, Milwaukee, Beloit, Marshfield, Neillsville and the local community present. It was a happy gathering for the family, the only regret being that Mrs. Fitzmaurice’s folks who live in Canada could not be present.

Mr. and Mrs. Allison Flagg, pioneer residents of the Town of Eaton (Clark Co., Wis.), where they have lived on their farm home for over thirty-one years, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, Sunday, March 31, 1935, at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Bostwick, who entertained the following old time neighbors and friends: Mrs. Frank Hatton and son Russell, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Stafford and son Harry, Mr. and Mrs. Evan Hatton and daughter Betty, Mrs. Mary Bostwick, Mr. and Mrs. George Gemmeke and son Kenneth, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Dillenbeck and son Harold, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Susa Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Paul Susa, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Dimler, Mrs. Martha Meinholdt and daughters, Miss Nina Drescher, Mr. and Mrs. Stryker Flagg and daughters, Marion and Margie, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Hatton and sons and daughters Donald and Frank, Allison and Evelyn.

A bountiful dinner was served at high noon, the room and table were trimmed in white and yellow gold and a large bouquet of yellow zinnias and wedding cake that was sent to them by Mrs. Flagg's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Nimm of Watertown, put the finishing touch to the occasion. The three granddaughters, Marion and Margie Flagg and Evelyn Hatton, and Miss Nina Drescher, served the guests.

They received many lovely gifts and a purse of money, a $5.00 gold piece from her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Nimm of Watertown, a lovely linen tablecloth from Mrs. Martha Dillenbeck of Janesville, and a number of beautiful booklets with the appropriate Golden Wedding verses from relatives from away.

When the northern woods, in all their splendor, appealed to the Janesville people that came up here in 1902, 1903, 1904, and settled down in the southwest corner of the Town of Eaton. Some of the folks were Frank Hatton, Albert Dillenbeck, James, George and Allison Flagg, John H. Stafford, Wm. Rowert, W. Robbins, and H. Bicknell, a hardware dealer in Janesville, who still owns a large tract of land here. These folks all built their home in an unbroken timbered country with no roads or schools near at that time, and after all these years of hard work, with many misfortunes of tornadoes and crop failures, Mr. and Mrs. Allison Flagg are still working the home farm.

Mr. and Mrs. Flagg have a host of friends and neighbors who join the Gleaner in extending best wishes for many more years of health and happiness.

SILVER WEDDING

The Rev. and Mrs. Raymond J. Fleming observed their silver wedding anniversary Monday, September 12th, with open house at the Methodist parsonage at Marshfield.

The marriage of Miss Fe[unreadable] Cook, daughter of the George S. Cook’s of Unity, to Raymond Fleming of Glenwood City, then a student at Asbury College, Wilmore, Ky., took place on the evening of Sept. 12, 1924, in the Unity Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Brown of Spencer Methodist Church reading the nuptial service.

Of the 175 guests that called at the Flemings home on the silver anniversary, 12 had attended the wedding 25 years ago as attendants.

Guests in attendance included members of the congregations of the Marshfield, Spencer and Richfield Methodist Churches where Rev. Fleming is now the pastor.

The pastor and his family received many fine gifts and a Purse of money from the many guests. Mrs. George Headley of Minneapolis, the Fleming’s daughter, and Mrs. Carrie Allen, Rev. Fleming’s aunt, poured at the informal reception.

The Fleming family which also includes a son, Myron, came to Marshfield July 4, 1946 rom Viroqua where the Rev. Fleming had been pastor since 1939. Earlier he had served charges at Unity, (as student pastor) Loyal, Superior and in the Ease [East?].

Monday was the sixtieth anniversary of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Flink of this village, and though the happiness of the occasion was marred by the fact that on Saturday Mr. Flink had been removed to the Marshfield hospital for treatment, yet from far and near their sons and daughters gathered here to do them honor. Sixty years ago last Monday in far off Sweden, Andrew Flink and Mathilda Johnson plighted their marriage vows and then as the tales of America came to them, Mr. Flink bid his family, his wife, and one son, goodbye and sailed for that land where the poor man who found honor in his labor could hope to own his own land and home. He landed at New York and came west to work on a railroad in Indiana and then hearing of Wisconsin came up to Romeo where he found work with the Van Hoosiers who owned a mill there and by thrift he soon saved enough money to send back to Sweden for his wife and son and a brother who joined him here. It was not long after he purchased the Flink farm one mile south of the village, then covered with a dense growth of timber. He continued to work at Romeo and put in as much time as he could clearing the farm. In those days a day’s work at the mill was from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. without any of the labor saving devices they have in the present day mill. The farm grew and a little later he bought the Flood place just north of his home farm. Some years ago he purchased a residence in the village where he and his wife have passed the summer months and living in Milwaukee during the winter season thereby getting rid of the cold and storms of our winter season. Those of his family who gathered here on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. William Dallman, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Uecker and son, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Flink and children, Robert and Janet, all of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Flink and daughters, Jane, Jewell, and Adelia, Mr. and Mrs. John Flink, all of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. August Flink and family of Brighton, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Flink and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Ted Flink, all of the town of Unity, Mr. and Mrs. Loraine Flink and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Stark of this village. The entire party was served at dinner at the get-together meeting at Trinity Lutheran church Sunday. Mr. Flink has reached the ripe old age of 85 years and his wife will be 80 years of age in October. Truly their days have been filled with many blessings and nine of the twelve children born to them gathered to do them homage. Three daughters, Anna, Clara and Lilly died when children of that dread scourge, diphtheria, and within a few days, many years ago.

We of this community who have known this family for these many years, honor them for their sturdy honesty, sobriety and Christianity which has stood out like the light house whose beams of light have lighted the wayfarer to a haven of safety. May they be spared to the community for years to come.

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Flink observed their sixty-first wedding anniversary at Unity last week, when they posed with their son, grandson and great-grandson for the four generation picture shown above. Pictured with Mr. and Mrs. Flink, who are 86 and 80 years old, respectively, are their son, August; grandson, Lorraine, and great-grandson, LeRoy Flink, all of whom have attended the same school at Unity, where the family has lived for 57 years, ever since coming to America from Sweden. After the celebration, the couple left for Milwaukee to spend the winter months with their daughter, Miss Marie Flink, as has been the custom for a number of years.

Sixty-one years of wedded life is the unusual record of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Flink of Milwaukee, formerly of Unity, who celebrated their wedding anniversary Aug. 15, at Unity. Mr. Flink is now 86 years old and his wife is 80 years of age.

Their marriage took place in Sweden, and when their son, August was three years old they came to the United States. They lived at Unity for 57 years and are well-known in this section of the state, but for the past 15 years they have made their home in Milwaukee, although they still spend their summers at Unity. Because of Mrs. Flink’s ill health they returned to Milwaukee last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Flink are the parents of nine children: Mrs. Sam Stark, Ted, Carl, and August, all of Unity; John and William, of Minneapolis; Oscar, Jennie, and Marie of Milwaukee. They also have 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The couple makes their home with Miss Marie Flink.

A wedding anniversary and two birthdays were celebrated Sunday at the Joe Kaczor home, Rt. 1, Neillsville; the 46th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Fluegel of Sherwood, the birthdays of Joe Kaczor and of Mrs. Richard Wilhorn of Nekoosa.

Mr. and Mrs. Fluegel were married in Sherwood December 5, 1916.  They have three children and 12 grandchildren, all of whom were at the celebration. The children include: Mrs. Wilhorn, Ardo of Sherwood, and Mrs. Kaczor.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Foelske celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on October 9 with the immediate family at a six o’clock dinner at the Star Lodge Coffee Shop.

Albert Foelske and Lena Luther were married on October 13, 1915 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal.  The Rev. E. Kemena officiated and the attendants were Otto Luther and Mrs. Hannah Johnson, Marshfield, the former Hannah Reese of Loyal.

After their marriage they farmed in Beaver Township until the year of 1945, when they moved to the city of Loyal.  Mr. Foelske then was employed as a janitor at the Loyal High School until 1959 when he retired.

The couple has two daughters, Mrs. Meryln (Alleda) Lindner, Spencer and Mrs. Lester (Velda) Wittnig, Jewel.  Grandchildren include Darrell Lindner, Peoria, Illinois; Arlan Lindner, Concordia Senior College, Fort Wayne, Indiana, Vernon Wittig, Northwestern College, Watertown and Mrs. Bill (Geraldine Wittnig) Affeld, Juneau and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Foelske are members of Trinity Lutheran Church.  Both enjoy fair health.

Mr. and Mrs. August Foemmel of Rt. 1, Chili, observed their golden wedding anniversary in Neillsville last Saturday, although the actual anniversary date will not arrive until December 7.

All of their children were present for the occasion.  An anniversary dinner was served in the Arbutus Café in Neillsville at 6:30 p.m., and refreshments were served at the farm home in the Town of Fremont.

The Foemmels were married in the parsonage of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield by the Rev. O. A. Hillman. Following the service they drove with team and wagon to their new home - a log shanty which Mr. Foemmel, his brother, Harmon Huntley of Neillsville and others helped to build on the present Foemmel farm.  In this one story log shack the couple lived until they constructed their present house in 1914.

On April 25 of this year the Foemmel’s son, Forest, took over the home farm.  He lives in a house recently built just north of the home of his parents.

Mr. and Mrs. Leander J. Fohl of 1017 W. Adler Road, who were married October 16, 1933 in St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp by the Rev. Francis Kulig, observed the golden anniversary of their marriage with an anniversary Mass Saturday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and dinner festivities at Casa Loma Supper Club.

Fohl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fohl, was born December 2, 1911 in Marshfield. His wife, the former Bernice Rycerz was born June 327, 1914 to Mr. and Mrs. Martin Rycerz at Thorp.

The couple's children are Mrs. Jerald (Betty) Beining, Howards Grove, and Mrs. Thomas (Shirley) Laufer, West Bend. There are six grandchildren.

Thomas and Shirley Forbish of Marshfield will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary this summer by taking an Alaskan Cruise.

They were married Feb. 25, 1956, at First Presbyterian Church, Stratford, with the Rev. Richard Harrison officiating.

Thomas is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Forbish. He is a Colby, Wis. High School graduate, and served in the Army from 1953 to 1955. He retired from M&I Bank after 40 years of service.

The former Shirley Ann Grimm, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Grimm, is a Stratford High School graduate. She served as secretary at First Presbyterian Church for 19 years. They are members of First Presbyterian Church, Marshfield.

Their family includes a daughter, Jan (Gerald) Miller of Granger, Ind., and a son, Mark Forbish of St. Louis Park, Minn., and six grandchildren.

The celebration of Mr. and Mrs. John Foster's 40 years event of marriage was arranged by their children and their families. A family dinner on Saturday, September 26 was held at the Thorpedo Restaurant, Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.). September 24 was the date of the marriage 40 years ago. Father Berg officiated at Holy Family Parish in Stanley. The gifts were carried by Karen and Cindy Haas. After church, the evening was spent at the home of John Foster, where cards were played and refreshments served.

A corsage of orchids for the mother and a corsage of white carnations for the great-grandmother, Mrs. Francis Foster, and boutonnieres for the father, which were all gifts from the children. The children also had a yellow chrysanthemum corsage made by Mrs. Arnold (Marion) Haas.

The wedding cake, adorned with two wedding bells, was made by a friend. Numerous cards were received. In the midst of surrounding which they had brought about in the last 58 years, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard (Lenus) Frank of Weston observed their 60th wedding anniversary Saturday.

Nearly every building, tree or spot within sight of the comfortable farm home brought back memories of milestones in their long and happy life together. And while they prepared to hold open house the following day, now and then they paused to tell stories which made many of their surroundings seen vividly alive and real.

For instances, there is the old well near the west kitchen door. It is one of the oldest dug wells in Clark County, and was patterned after the first one, on the parental home of Mr. Frank, a scant three miles away in Pine Valley.

Its moss and fern-lined top is protected by a high, solid, and weather-beaten board fence. From a pulley wheel suspended above, a bucket is lowered on a rope into the water, 36 feet below.

The well is one of but few of its kinds left in the country today, and is still in constant use. Over the years the ferns which lean over the edge of the stone wall, and the green moss which clings to the wall several fee below ground level, have come up from nowhere.

It was the late 1880’s that Mr. Frank decided to dig the well near the house. Before that they had taken water from a shallow "hole" in a nearby hollow on their farm.

John and Tom Huntley, both of whom since have left this earth, handled the rope and bucket as Mr. Frank handled the excavating. It was natural that progress should be comparatively rapid on the first day of digging; but after it became necessary to bucket the dirt, progress was made at the rat of about six feet a day.

At 36 feet Mr. Frank decided to stop digging, and started to work his way back up again. Four days were required to fashion heavy stone into an almost perfectly round wall, yet not a drop of mortar was used.

For man years an honest-to-goodness old oaken bucket was sued to haul water up from the well, but in recent years it has been practically impossible to secure an oaken bucket, so commonplace metal has taken the place.

In the front yard of the Frank home stand several fine pine trees. (Continued on page 10 - rest unavailable at this time.).

For sixty years Mr. and Mrs. George Frantz Sr. have traveled life’s path together, and on Monday they celebrated their sixtieth anniversary at the home of their son Rudolph and wife in the town of Washburn, Clark County, Wis. At noon a goodly number of the more distant friends gathered, and after greetings and congratulations, sat down to a sumptuous dinner with the aged couple. The afternoon was spent in reviewing the olden days and renewing old acquaintances. In the evening the nearer neighbors and other came; again the festal board was spread and around it gathered the groups of friends and well-wishers; so many were there, the tables were filled again and again. Besides those there for dinner, one hundred twenty-five were served at the evening meal. Many presents and tokens of remembrance were brought or sent by absent friends. A box of beautiful flowers received from Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Roethe of Fennimore, graced the center of the table.

Mr. Frantz is 87 years old and the "bride" is 82; both are sound in mind and remember the occurrences of life clearly, and are most interesting people to meet. Mr. Frantz is probably the oldest resident here. He landed at Black River Falls in 1848 and was one of the earliest settlers in this vicinity. He went to Ft. Atkinson to be married, returning with his bride, with an ox team through the wilderness a good part of the way. They took an active part in pioneer affairs and experienced all the hardships of early life in a new country. It is hoped by all that they May yet see many happy days together.

Mr and Mrs. Conrad G. Frantz celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage in a quiet way at their home on South Grand Avenue on Saturday, August 29.

Mr and Mrs. Frantz were both born here and have lived in this locality all their lives. They were married Aug. 29, 1881 by Rev. W. T. Hendren, a pioneer minister of Neillsville. The greater part of their married lives were spent on their farm in Pine Valley. Some years ago they bought their fine city home and retired from farm life. Both are in good health and take an active interest in family and community affairs. For many years Mr. Frantz was active in town and county matters, representing Pine Valley on the county board a number of terms.

All their children and families were present at the celebration, Saturday. Senator and Mrs. E. J. Roethe and family, Attorney and Mrs. George Frantz and family, all of Fennimore; Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Hetland and family of Jefferson; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Frantz of Pine Valley; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Frantz and family, Neillsville. There are 17 grandchildren. Besides those mentioned there were present a niece, Mrs. Clara Winkes and daughters, Emma, and Mida, and Mrs. Frantz’s sister, Mrs. Fred Seif, Sr.

It was a most pleasant family reunion. A number of fine gifts were presented to Mr. and Mrs. Frantz.

Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Fredrick celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Sunday, March 26, at the farm home of their son, H. D. Fredrick, town of Green Grove.

Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick were united in marriage at Altoona, in 1894 and lived at Fall Creek until 1931, when they moved with their son, H. D. Fredrick, to a farm in the town of Green Grove. They are 75 and 73 years of age, and came to this country from Germany, when he was ten years of age and she one. Both are in seemingly good health.

They were the parents of four children, two having died in their youth, and living are Mrs. H. D. Knickerbocker, of Eau Claire, and H. D. Fredrick, residing in Green Grove.

The home was beautifully decorated with white bells, gold streamers, candles and flowers. A beautiful large wedding cake was on the bride’s table.

Lunch was served to 85 guests in the afternoon and evening at open house. They received many lovely gifts and also a purse of money.

Mr. and Mrs. George Frei of Neillsville, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, November 26, A special Mass at10:30 a.m. was celebrated by Rev. George Nelson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Neillsville.

A golden wedding anniversary dinner was held at the Wildcat Inn at Hewettville at noon on Sunday. Open house followed at the American Legion Hall from 2 to 7 p.m. for relatives and other friends.

George Frei, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Frei Sr., Neillsville. and Angeline Schuld, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simon Schuld, Loyal, were married at St. Mary’s Church in Neillsville, November 26, 1917 by the Rev. Peter Weber, who was pastor there at the time.

They lived in Loyal after their marriage, but their married life was interrupted for two years when Mr. Frei served overseas during World War 1. When he returned in 1919, Mr. and Mrs. Frei moved to a farm, south of Loyal, in the community then known as Pelsdorf, where they farmed until 1942.

In 1942 they moved to the Dick Brown farm in the town of Grant, south of Neillsville, Where they operated a dairy farm for 11 years. In 1953 they moved to their present residence.

Mr. Frei was born at New Glarus in Green County February 5, 1896, and came with his parents to Clark County locating on a farm in the town of York near the old Clark County poor farm in 1902. He attended Wild Rose School in that township.

Angeline Schuld was born in the town of Loyal, January 15, 1901 and spent her early years in that area. She attended Mack School and her teacher was J. R. Tomas, who is still teaching in Loyal High School. Later she attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School in Loyal.

The couple are the parents of six children; Mrs. Norbert (Rose) Noeldner, Loyal; Mrs. George (Lucile) Pagenkopf, Neillsville; Edward, Loyal; Leo, Whitehall; Miss Mary Jane Frei, Eau Claire: and Mrs. Robert (Georgianna) DeMert, Neillsille.

There are 32 grandchildren.

They are active members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

After moving to Neillsville, Mr. Frei was employed for a number of years by the Fullertin Lumber Company. He is now retired.

Don and Charlotte Frodl of Stratford celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008.

They attended Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stratford, then entertained friends and family at Country Aire in Stratford, with a dinner followed by polka music and country music.

Don and the former Charlotte Knoeck were married Aug. 16, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Richard and Myrtle Froland are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 20, 1976 at an open house (2 – 5 p.m.) at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanska, Minnesota.

The Froland’s owned and operated the Red & White Grocery Store in Owen from 1939 until 1953. Richard was president of the library board and a charter member of Kiwanis in Owen. They were both active members in the Finnish Lutheran Church in Owen. Their daughter, Betty Ann, graduated from Owen High School in 1944 and Marjorie Kay was born in Owen in 1940.

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin L. Frome Sr. of Colby observed their 50th wedding anniversary with a celebration Sunday, Dec. 10, 1967.

Dinner for the children and grandchildren was held at the Gordon Mellenthin home with the honored couple as guests. Other guests were Mrs. Elsie Mellenthin, Spencer, and Mrs. Betty Dehn, Colby.

Open house was held from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Edwin Frome home. The couple was presented with a corsage and boutonniere of yellow chrysanthemums. The anniversary cake, in the form of the Bible, was baked and decorated by their daughter, Mrs. Donald Barr, Milwaukee.

Mr. Frome, son of Henry and Mary Frome, was born April 8, 1895 in the town of Colby (Clark Co., Wis.) and attended school in that township, as did Lydia Schumann, daughter of August and Bertha Schumann, who was born June 6, 1898. They were married Dec. 13, 1917 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, town of Green Grove, with the Rev. August Berent officiating.

Their attendants were Meta Frome (Mrs. John Dreger), Los Angeles, Calif., Wallace Frome, West Bend, Wis., Louie Tesmer (deceased), and Emma Schreiber of Long Beach, Calif.

Following their marriage Mr. Frome served with the 89th Division, Company C., 353rd Infantry, in Germany, in 1918 – 1919.

Upon his return home the couple farmed for five years on what is now the Clinton Loos farm, 2 miles west of Colby on N. From there they moved to their farm a mile and a half south of Colby until their retirement in 1949.

Their family includes seven children. They are Edwin Jr., Appleton, Glenn, Antigo, Marian (Mrs. Gordon Mellenthin), Colby, Lennice and William, Colby. A son, Kenneth, died in 1933, and a daughter Elaine, died in 1934.

There are 16 grandchildren.

The couple had been honored guests at a previous celebration dinner in July at the Zion Parish Hall, for which two of their original attendants, Wallace Frome, west Bend, and Meta Drager, Los Angeles, Calif., had attended.

Mrs. From is the president of the Ladies' Aid Society of Zion Lutheran Church and is a Sunday school teacher. Her husband enjoys hunting and gardening, and she loves to grow flowers. Both have been lifelong members of the Lutheran church.

Guests for Sunday's celebration were from Milwaukee, Appleton, Rockford, Ill., Minneapolis, Minn., and many friends from Colby and the surrounding communities.

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Frome celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary at their home Thursday evening. Cards were played and lunch served.

Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Frome observed their 25th wedding anniversary on March 6, 1968 and celebrated the event Saturday, March 9.

An early supper was served at the Frome home.

Friends and relatives who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Neuhaus and daughter, Virginia, Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Koeppen, Debra and Jerry, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Koeppen, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Koeppen and son, Danny, all of Sheboygan; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Vrana, Colb; David Feind, Milwaukee; Gene Meister, Stevens Point, and Mrs. Frieda Koeppen, Colby.

The anniversary wedding cake was present to the couple by their children.

Later in the evening, a group of friends, relatives and neighbors gathered at the party room of the Colby Tavern. Music was provided by Marvin Augustine and son, Dennis.

A mock wedding ceremony climaxed the festivities of the evening. The bride, Benny Krueger, was seen in a navy blue scoop neckline, sleeveless dress with white accessories. The bouquet of plastic roses was adorned with silver foil bows and the fingertip veil was attached to golden yarn mop hair.

The groom, Dolly Castner, wore an early attic navy blue suit with pink satin bow cufflinks. The golden mop hair was held in place with an onion bag veil.

Perry Schulz, the father-in-law, toted a BB gun over his shoulder. His checkered shirt and overalls were perfectly coordinated with his straw hat, sun glasses and black beard.

Pauline Zassenhaus, best man, was seen in brown tweed, blue satin bow, cufflinks and a hairdo identical to the groom's.

Bruce Castner, as maid of honor, was attired in a scoop neck, sleeveless aqua satin sheer dress with multiple gored skirt, fishnet hose and golden high heeled slippers. The veil was secured to a yellow hat. The sweet pea and plastic daffodil bouquet was adorned with silver foil bows.

The pastor, in his St. Patrick's top hat and a peony boutonniere, performed his duties from a 1906 plat book as he managed to mumble through cigar filled lips (he is more commonly known as Ronald D. Schultz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Schultz).

Music was sung by Mrs. Art Schultz, with Marvin and Dennis Augustine playing.

Violet Koeppen, daughter of Mrs. Otto Koeppen, Colby, and the late Otto Koeppen, was united in marriage to Wesley Frome, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Frome, on March 6, 1943, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Colby. Rev. O.H. Hoffman performed the ceremony and their attendants were her sister, June, now Mrs. Harvey Neuhaus, Sheboygan, and Arland Ellstrom West Chicago.

The couple has lived on their farm southwest of Colby since their marriage. They have five children, Dennis, married and living in Colby, Wayne, Marshfield, Barbara, Susan and Brian, all at home, and two grandchildren, Scott and Bradley Frome, Colby.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Frost, residents of the Withee, Clark County, Wis. community since 1894, were honored guests on Wednesday evening of last week at a reception in the community hall at Withee, arranged by the Danish Congregation in celebration of their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Approximately 200 relatives and friends were present to extend congratulations and enjoy the program which had been prepared. Lunch was served later in the evening.

Earlier in the day a ceremonial service was held in the Danish Church, which Mr. and Mrs. Frost helped establish at Withee. At noon a family dinner was served, at which covers were laid for 26. Among those present were the five children of the honored couple, J. C. Frost of Portland, Ore.; The Rev. Arthur Frost, Askov, Minn.; Mrs. Edwin Hansen, Gaemay, Mont. and Alfred Frost and Mrs. Helvina Mailand, Withee., besides Mrs. J. C. Frost and son, Mrs. Arthur Frost, Edwin Hansen and the Alfred Frost family.

Other from out of town who attended the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Chris Christensen, Mrs. Sina Petersen, and Mrs. Marie Rubart, all of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jensen, Chris Jensen, and Mrs. Alma Kirkoff, Eau Claire, and Miss Esther Hansen, Stevens Point.

Mr. and Mrs. Frost were both born in Thirsted, Denmark, the former on March 7, 1852, and the other on Jan. 12, 1854. They came to America in 1879, and located at Cedar Falls, Iowa, where they were married in 1880. A year later they moved to Chicago, where they lived 13 years, after which they settled on a farm near Withee. They were among the first three Danish families to arrive in what is now practically a Danish Community.

Eleven years ago they retired from farming and purchased their present home in the village of Withee. Besides their five children, their descendants include eight grandchildren.

Fults, Mr./Mrs. Walter (50th Anniv. - 29 May 1955)

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fults celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday. In the morning, the entire family attended the Presbyterian church in a body. At the services, a quartet of four grand children sang "The Old Rugged Cross," a favorite hymn of the honored couple.
 

At noon a dinner was served at the Edwin Fults home to 34 persons who included the family and some out of town relatives.
 

Nearly 120 relatives and friends greeted the couple at an open house from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at their home. Lunch was served from a table spread with a gold cloth and centered with a decorated wedding cake. Other decorations included flowers and candles.
 

The honored couple received many lovely gifts which included money, flowers, and cards. Mrs. Fults wore a corsage of yellow roses and her husband wore a yellow carnation.
 

Mr. Fults was born Feb. 7, 1880, at Thorp, where he received his education and farmed. His parents were Francis and Laura Fults. Mrs. Fults, the former Myrtle Heagle, was born Jan. 1, 1884, at Seymour to James and Elizabeth Heagle. She received her education at Thorp and taught school there for several years.
 

The couple, both members of the Presbyterian church, were married June 14, 1905, in the Methodist parsonage in Stanley. The Rev. A. Soule officiated at the ceremony.
 

After their marriage, the couple operated a farm at Thorp until 1927, when they came to Abbotsford, where Mr. Fults was in the bulk and retail oil business and service station until his retirement five years ago.
 

The Fultses have three sons, James Fults, Stanley; Edwin Fults, Abbotsford; and Dr. A. H. Fults, Colby; eight grand children and a great grand child. A daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Mildred) Anderson, died Sept. 20, 1945.
 

Relatives and friends who attended the occasion were from McAllen, Texas; Seaport, Mich.; St. Paul, Appleton and Buffalo, Minn.; Menomonie, Cadott, Stanley, Thorp, Eau Claire, Seymour, Augusta, Onalaska, Cable, Withee, Curtiss, Stetsonville, Colby, and Abbotsford.

A quiet celebration was held November 2, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Funk, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), in honor of their sixtieth wedding anniversary. Mr. Funk came here from Sheboygan in 1876, and Mrs. Funk came as his bride in 1883 from Mosel, Wis. They are now eighty-two and eighty-one respectively.

Their married life began on the Strohkirch farm south of the village in the days when Indians were still very numerous in this community. Later they had a general store and a meat market in the village. Mr. Funk was Withee’s first president and the second postmaster. He also served for several years on the school board and as clerk of Longwood and Hixon townships.

Their children who attended the celebration are George, Theresa, Edmund Funk, and Mrs. L.H. Munson (Ida) of Withee; Mrs. Anna Davidson of Appleton; and Mrs. William Vogelin (Emma) of Minneapolis, Minnesota. A son, Herbert, died in 1905. Among the other relatives attending were Mrs. George Funk, L.H. Munson, five of their eleven grandchildren, three of their eight great-grandchildren, and Mrs. Funk’s sister, Mrs. Ernestine Sontag, with her daughter, Mrs. Charley Harvey, both of Appleton.

There were pleasant moments spent with several friends who dropped in during the day. Many floral and other gifts and cards were received, which showed the good wishes of the community to the honored couple.
