Saturday, May 9, 1970, Mr. and Mrs. Earl J. Zabel celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary with a reception the afternoon at their home, for their parents, brothers, sisters and their families. Other guests include Mr. and Mrs. Allen Luber and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Bowe.
An evening reception was held at the American Legion Hall, Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), for about 150 relatives and friends. Dancing was enjoyed by all.
Earl and Rosie are the parents of three children, David, Dale and Debbie, all at home.
Parents of Earl and Rosie are Mr. Ja.A. Zabel, Kellogg, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. Harrold Passe, Rhinelander, Wis.
Out of town guests came from Illinois, Minnesota and distant Wisconsin cities.

Fifty years ago, on Jan. 22, 1900, Michael Zaborowski and Stella Herman were united in marriage at St. Hedwig’s Church at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.). They were attended by Michael Mocadto and Miss Helen Herman, now Mr. and Mrs. Michael Mocadto of Chicago.
Last Saturday, Jan. 21, at 8:00 a.m., Mr. and Mrs. Zaborowski, in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary, renewed the vows made fifty years ago, and received the blessing in a ceremony performed by Father Francis Piekarski at St. Hedwig’s Church.
A reception was held at the P.N.A. Hall which was attended by many friends of the couple from this community and five o’clock supper was served to 125 guests.
The bride was attired in a teal blue gown with gold accessories and the groom wore a blue suit.
The Zaborowskis have four children living, three daughters, Mrs. Louie Oscars of Rochester, Minn.; Dr. and Mrs. A. F. Restarski and children Cheryl and Frederick, Mr. and Mrs. H. Bujalski and children Patsy and Gerry of Chicago; Mrs. W. Palmer of Cadott; Mrs. T. Linde and children of Rhinelander; Mrs. Hattie Herman and son Pete, Joe Zaborowski, Mr. and Mrs. F. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Zager, Sauk Rapids, Mn., recently celebrated their 25th anniversary with all of their relatives. The Zagers formerly lived in the Neillsville area. Mrs. Zager is the former Shirley Holt.
A dinner was held at the Wildcat Inn for the group. Cake and punch were served at the Fern Holt home in the evening. An anniversary cake was the table centerpiece, being decorated with the original top from their wedding.
Attendants at their wedding were Mary Ellen, Jerry Johnson and Nancy Tresemer. All were present for the occasion.
Shirley wore a corsage and Robert a boutonniere, which were gifts from their children.
Thirty-eight guests were present. They included Mr./Mrs. Robert Zager, Rick, Mike, Sandi and Juli, Sauk Rapids, Mn., and Fern Holt, Mr./Mrs. Louis Henchen, Mr./Mrs. Jerry Johnson, Mr./Mrs. Ed Tresemer, and Tim, Ellen Johnson, Millie Dorn, Mr./Mrs. David Lewis and Mr./Mrs. Pete Zager, of Neillsville.
Out of town guests were Mr./Mrs. William Kent, Rickey and Lori, Winona, Mn.; Mr./Mrs. Frank Zager, Mr./Mrs. Ed Perkl, of Willard; Anne Merlak, Loyal; Sally Schwartz and Mr./Mrs. Dennis Buchholz, of Greenwood; Mr./Mrs. LeRoy Krall, West Salem; Cheryl and Sue Henchen, Eau Claire; and Tom Henchen, Onalaska.
The Zagers received a silver money tree from their guests. It was made by Nancy Tresemer and Mary Ellen Johnson.
The group also enjoyed a special family dinner at the home of Shirley’s mother, Fern Holt on Sunday.

About 375 relatives and guests were registered in the guest book at the 50th wedding anniversary dinner and open house of Mr. and Mrs. John Zasoba, Withee’s (Clark Co., Wis.) highly respected citizens, who have spent their entire married life in one village. At noon dinner was served to 125 relatives and lifelong friends, followed by a very nice program at 2:00 o’clock by local talent, friends of the Zasobas’ and arranged by Miss Dorothy Nielsen, who acted as mistress of ceremonies.
Short addresses and words of congratulations were given by Rev. Predoehl and Rev. Wendling, a former pastor of St. John’s Church here.
George Baehr, brother of the bride, gave a very enlightening and amusing talk of the early life of the groom from the time of his arrival in Wisconsin until the founding of his present business. Following the program a cafeteria lunch was served. Dinner and lunch were served by the band mothers.
Many lovely gifts, flowers and cards were accepted by the honored couple. Eldon, their eldest son of Peoria, Ill., and Peter Zasoba, a brother from Chattanooga, Tenn., arrived Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Zasoba, their youngest son, who is stationed in Germany and unable to be here, was represented by beautiful flowers he had delivered Sunday morning for his parent’s wedding.

Mr. and Mrs. John Zasoba, highly esteemed citizens of Withee, quietly celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary January 22 with a family gathering.
Present were: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Baehr, Mr. and Mrs. George Baehr, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Rabska, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Rabska and family, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Petersen and Mr. and Mrs. Peter Zasoba.
Mr. and Mrs. John Zasoba were married January 22, 1906, at her girlhood home west of Withee. She was the former Clara Baehr. John Zasoba came to Withee one year earlier, and they lived in Withee all their married life.
Three sons were born to them: Lloyd, Elden and Clinton. The eldest, Lloyd was killed in an automobile accident in 1932. The couple has three grandchildren.
The Zasobas had an open house celebration five years ago on the occasion of their 50th anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. William Zassenhaus entertained guests at their home Monday evening to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary. Their anniversary cake was baked and decorated by Mrs. Hazel Mueller. The three-tier white layer cake was adorned with pink roses, lilies of the valley, silver leaves and the 25-year emblem on top.
A buffet style supper of turkey, dressing, cole slaw, sandwiches and cake was served.

Pvt. 1st Class William Zassenhaus, U.S. Army, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Zassenhaus, Colby, was united in marriage to Miss Pauline Bond, second daughter of Mrs. S. Maddock and step-daughter of Mrs. Percy Maddock of Marldon, near Raignton, Down, England.
The ceremony took place at the church of St. John the Baptist, where Sir Humphrey Gilbert, who founded the Colony of Newfoundland in 1583, and his half-brother, Sir Walter Raleigh, were shipped when they lived at Campton Castle, nearby (one of the ancestral homes of England).
The Vicar of Marldon, the Rev. R.S.H. Trevaldwin, officiated at the ceremony. The bride was given in marriage on Easter Saturday, April 8, 1944, by her step-father, John Percy. Attending the couple were bridesmaids, Susie Amy Maddock, step-sister of the bride, and Miss Brenda Campbell, a friend. Best man was Pvt. 1st Class Albert Kane, U.S. Army.
Pvt. Zassenhaus was the first American to be married in this church since it was founded in 1583. Also noted in the original wedding date was the fact the second wife of the late Joseph Chamberlain, who was Mary Endicott, daughter of a distinguished American lawyer, visited the Marldon Church many year ago and examined registers for traces of her ancestry.
Mrs. Zassenhaus arrived in the United States on her twenty-first birthday, March 22, 1946. She came to Colby to join her husband, who returned earlier in December to the States with the armed forces.
The couple lived at Brodhead for nine and one-half years, and returned to the Zassenhaus farmstead, where they have since made their home at rural Colby. They have two sons, John, who is married and living at Abbotsford, and Charles, at home.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Zawacki of Abbotsford, who were married October 29, 1933 in Chicago, were honored for their golden wedding anniversary October 8 by their 5 children.
A family Dinner was at Olde Cedar House, Where an appropriate program by family members were given. The evenings festivities were at the Colby VFW Hall.
The former Rose Title and Zawacki have 4 sons, Lee of Forest Lake, Minnesota, Robert of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Dan and Michael of Denver; a daughter, Mrs. Gloria Tomandl, Superior; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
They operated a farm for 20 years and tavern in Abbotsford 25 years,, retiring in 1977. Both are members of St. Bernard;s Catholic Church, Abbotsford.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Zawacki were recently honored at a dinner party at St. Hedwig's Chapel Hall to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary.
Mr. Stanley Zawacki married the former Helen Stortecky on Octo 27, 1919 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin (Taylor Co.), Wis.
They spent about 30 years of their married life on a farm in Withee (Clark Co., Wis.).
Upon retiring they moved to Thorp, where they presently reside.
All of their four children, fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren were present for this joyous occasion.
Special guests were Mrs. Anna Kliminski, Mr. and Mrs. William Zawacki, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grabski, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Bartosiewicz because they were present at the wedding 50 years ago.

Eugene and Carolyn Zawadzki of Owen celebrated their golden wedding anniversary June 6, 2009.
A reception, dinner and dance were held at the Hayloft in Withee. Music was provided by Art Petke.
Eugene and the former Carolyn Pederstuen were united in marriage June 2, 1959, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Menomonie, with the Rev. Charles Blecka officiating.
Original wedding attendants present for the celebration were Jerry Zawadzki of Oak Creek, best man; Theresa Isom of Marshfield, maid of honor; Larry Zawadzki of Schwartz Creek, Mich., Joe Zawadzki of New York, Beverly Pederstuen of New Richmond, Sonja Gunderson of Baldwin; and Rhonda Erickson of Menomonie, flower girl.

Fifty years ago, Nov. 26, 1889, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zenz were married at Lancaster. They lived there for 14 years and their two children, Theresa and Joe, were born there. Theresa is now Mrs. Ed Kreuser of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), and the only child living since the death of Joe a few years ago.
In 1903 Mr. and Mrs. Zenz and children moved to a farm just west of the village limits of Loyal (Clark Co.), and with their interest in their church, the school, and other good causes soon became an important part of the community. About 12 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Zenz moved into a pleasant home in the village. They have 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Last Sunday evening a group of their old farm neighbors surprise the golden wedding couple by gathering at their home to help them celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They brought with them a delicious lunch. Mrs. Schultz, in honor of the day, made a large wedding cake decorated with gold colored icing. The evening was spent visiting and playing games. In remembrance of the occasion, a gift of money was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Zenz.

Monday marked the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ziebarth of Abbotsford, Wis., who with their children and grandchildren celebrated the event at their home.
Mrs. Ziebarth was born March 28, 1872, in Germany and came to this country when she was 16 years old. Mr. Ziebarth was born May 20, 1870, in New York. The marriage of the couple took place Aug. 12, 1890, at Dolton, Ill.
Immediately afterward they came to Wisconsin and lived in several localities before coming to Abbotsford in 1921. They became the parents of five children, three of whom are living at the present time - Henry Ziebarth of Abbotsford, Wis., Arnold of Cornell and Herman of Wausau, Wis. All of them attended the celebration. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ziebarth also have six grandchildren.
Both guests of honor are members of Christ Evangelical Church at Abbotsford, Wis.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ziebarth were honored at their home, Monday night when they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Cakes, beautifully decorated in gold, and gifts were presented the guests of honor by their neighbors.
Mrs. Ziebarth was born March 28, 1872 in Germany and came to America at the age of 16. Mr. Ziebarth was born May 20, 1870 in the state of New York.
Immediately after their marriage which took place at Dalton, Ill., Aug. 12, 1890, they came to Wisconsin. They lived at Glenwood City and at Medford, which city they left to come to Abbotsford, Wis.
Mr. and Mrs. Ziebarth are the parents of five children, three of whom are living: Henry, of Abbotsford, Arnold of Cornell, and Herman, of Wausau. There are six grand children.
Mr. Ziebarth was employed for six years by H. T. Ketcham when the latter started his fox ranch near Chelsea. Mr. Ziebarth opened the road, built the fences and after the cabin was built, he was joined there by Mrs. Ziebarth.
Later they came to Abbotsford, Wis. At present, both Mr. and Mrs. Ziebarth are in good health and are active in working a large garden and strawberry patch. Mr. Ziebarth suffered a fractured vertebra some time ago, from which he made a remarkable recovery.
Both are members of the Christ Evangelical Lutheran church.

Friday, Aug. 12 will be the 59th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ziebarth.
Mrs. Ziebarth, born March 28, 1872, and Mr. Ziebarth, born May 20, 1870, were married Aug. 12, 1890 in Dalton, Ill., after which they came to Wisconsin. They lived at Glenwood City, Medford and at the Ketcham fox farm, and came to Abbotsford 15 years ago.
Three of their five children are living: Henry, Abbotsford; Arnold, Cornell; and Herman, North Dakota. There are six grand children.
Mr. and Mrs. Ziebarth are both in good health and have a large garden, which furnishes the berries, vegetables, fruit and flowers for many people in Abbotsford, Wis.

Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Ziegler of Neillsville observed their golden wedding anniversary November 19 by holding open house at the American Legion Hall.
A dinner was served at 5 p.m. at the hall to 50 guests. The Rev. Alfred Schewe performed the service. Wilfred Galstad of Neillsville sang several selections.
Three attendants at the wedding 50 years ago were present for this occasion. They were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Scharf and Ed Ziegler.

Mr. and Mrs. John Zielinski celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1960, by renewing their vows at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Lublin at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. Eugene Konopka officiating, after which a 10:00 p.m. lunch was served for their family, friends and relatives.
Mr. John Zielinski and the former Emilya Nagorski were married in Deer Lodge, Tenn. on Feb. 2, 1910. Of this union there are six children, Joseph of Owen, Frank of Wayne, N.J., Stanley of Chicago, Ill., Steven of Chicago, Leon of Pequannock, N.J., and Walter at home. One son, Edward, died at the age of 13.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Zilk of Neillsville will begin the observance of their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday January 10, by attending 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church together with members of their family.
Following the Mass, a noon family dinner, proved by their children and prepared by the women of the church, will be served in the church hall. Later in the day they will greet their many friends and acquaintances during an open house to be held from 2 - 4 p.m. in the church hall.
The Zilks were married January 12, 1921, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stetsonville by Father Betz. Their attendants were her sister, the late Anna (Metz) Ruland of Milwaukee, and his brother, Mike Zilk, Eagle River, presently living in St. Louis, Mo.
Mrs. Zilk, the former Theresa Metz, is a native of the Stetsonville area. Her husband was born in Kaukauna and came to Stetsonville, by way of Auburndale, with his parents at about the age of 13. The elder Zilks eventually retired to Marshfield. Mr. and Mrs. Zilk are the parents of three sons, Joseph, Jr., of Wind Lake, and Glen and Francis, both of Neillsville. There are eight grandchildren, two boys and six girls.
As members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church here, the Zilks have been active through the years in its various men and women’s organizations. During his career as a Neillsville businessman, Mr. Zilk was a Kiwanian. He has retained his charter membership in Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post No. 73, from which he has received 50-year membership pin.
Joe Zilk’s life in Neillsville extends over a period of 57 years, beginning with his arrival here in August of 1914 as a Rawleigh product salesman. Finding it difficult to reach his customers during the winter months, he developed a “snowmobile” to provide faster, easier transportation over the snow-covered roads of the area. His first snowmobile was actually a standard automobile fitted with sled-type runners in front and with dual wheels, narrowed to fit the prevalent sled tracks, on the rear. The wheels were chained to provide better traction.
On their 1921 wedding day, which Mrs. Zilk recalls as being very cold, close to 20-below zero, members of the wedding party were transported from the rural Metz home to the Stetsonville church in the same converted 1915 open-top roadster which Mr. Zilk purchased in 1916 and used during his Rawleigh days.
Mr. Zilk believes that he was issued the first snowmobile patent in the United States. The document, which took about two years to obtain, is dated December 31, 1918. It is titled, “Runner Attachments for Vehicles.”
His design was so effective that various local blacksmiths and garage-men remodeled other people’s cars to snowmobiles as well, and Mr. Zilk received royalty payments on fifteen or twenty such conversions. He recalls that local veterinarians and doctors were among the first to make practical sue of the vehicle.
In those days, country roads were rarely if ever plowed, and so the usual practice was for people to put their cars up on blocks for the winter and depend instead on horse-drawn sleds and sleighs for transportation. Only in larger cities such as Marshfield were streets plowed enough for engine-driven vehicles to function.
Horses, however, were slow, and so those who tired of their three-mile-per hour rated had their automobiles converted to fit into the sled tracks. Such snowmobiles were capable or traveling 40 miles per hour with a light load.
The difference in use of the snowmobile in the late teens and early 1920’s is striking to the Zilks, who reflect that the early snowmobile was not a luxury item designed for the winter sports enthusiast, but a practical necessity for efficient travel over the snow-bound northern countryside.
Bulk Agent
Mr. Zilk continued with the Rawleigh Company until called into the Army in 1918. He remained stateside during World War I and was discharged in 1919. Upon his return from the service, he changed his career and became a Standard Oil bulk agent, staying in that line of work until selling the agency in the 1930’s.
It was during his years as an oil man that Mr. Zilk modified his snowmobile design to aid him once again in his deliveries. Basically, the new conveyance consisted of a truck body with a four-wheel, caterpillar-type chain drive mechanism on the rear, and again, runners replacing the front wheels, all narrowed-up to fit the still-prevalent sled tracks.
Delivering petroleum products by snowmobile-truck was a great improvement over the earlier, slower method of using a horse-drawn tank sled. Mr. Zilk remembers that in winter it once took as long as two days for him to reach Granton from Neillsville, allowing for a few farm-delivery stops, snow filled and drifted roads, and occasional tip-over’s.
In the era of the early 1920’s, deliveries were made to general stores and hardware dealers, rather than to filling stations, which were non-existent at the time. People used mainly kerosene for their lamps, lanterns, and stoves, along with some gasoline for engine-driven vehicles. Stops were not generally made at private homes, as most people did not have facilities for bulk storage.
Mr. Zilk’s territory extended from the southern limits of Clark County up to the area eight miles north of Neillsville. A typical circuit would include deliveries at Globe, Christie, Chili, Lynn, Granton, and Shortville. The work day began early in the morning, often before daylight, and usually extended far beyond the 5-6 p.m. quitting time common nowadays.
While such trips were indeed slow and lengthy, Mr. Zilk recalls an even slower and longer trek he made with a team as a young man. Stetsonville a t the time was an important lumbering area, and after a disastrous mill and yard fire around 1909, he was given the job of taking a remaining team and wagon to the company’s facilities in Oshkosh, approximately 146 miles away.
The trip along the “Yellow Trail”, old Highway 18 marked with yellow-banded utility poles, took five and one-half days. Without road maps or markings such as are available today, the usual procedure for the traveler was to ask directions progressively along the route.
Travelers often times received such advice as to “Go to the next corner and turn left,” or “Go to the school house, before turning,” and, quite frequently, “Follow the railroad,” Mr. Zilk said.
“Zilk Villa”
After selling the bulk dealership, the Zilks bought the land on the south side of town still occupied by a Standard Station. At that time it was a vacant lot, but an old house to the north of the property was torn down in order to make more room for the new construction.
The original two-stall service station was finished in 1931. Subsequent additions were made in succeeding years, until the building attained its present size. The attractive granite stone used as facing for structure came from the county shale pit northwest of town.
The Zilks, who had moved to a house on Oak Street immediately after their marriage and later built the Clay Street home now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Mungor, erected a new home on Hewett street, immediately to the north of the garage.
When all the construction was completed in 1939, the Zilks added an automobile dealership to their service station facilities. A contest to find a name for the complex was launched that year. Judges Donald E. Peters, Wm. Campman and Hazel Lee were called upon to choose a suitable title from among 357 names submitted. Dr. M. E. Bennett’s suggestion of “Zilk Villa” - a diminutive of “Zilk’s Village,” was declared the winner.
After 42 years of business in Neillsville the Zilks sold their property in 1956 and moved to Milwaukee. They returned here about a hear and a half ago on May 29, 1969, after selling their Milwaukee service station to the school board, which needed space for additional facilities at an adjoining school.
Their present home on Division Street, located almost diagonally southwest of their former house, suits them well. It’s not surprising to learn that they are unaware of the noisy stopping, starting, and gear-shifting of the countless vehicles which pass by on the busy highway outside their front door.

On Saturday, November 3, Alfred and Marie (Walk) Zillmer of Fairchild will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family noon dinner, followed by an afternoon (2:00 to 5:00) open house at the Wild Cat Inn, west of Neillsville.
Alfred was born near Fairchild on March 19, 1912. After completing grade school, he became employed as a farmhand in the Fairchild and Augusta areas. In 1929, he went to work for Otto Greunke’s rural Granton Dairy, and remained there for nine years.
It was while there that he met his wife, Marie Walk, who was teaching at the Romadka School. They were married on November 2, 1934, in Neillsville by the Rev. William Bauman. Attendants were Marie’s brother, Oscar Walk, and Evelyn Wetzel (now Evelyn Walk).
In 1935, the couple moved to a small home just north of the Greunke Dairy, where they lived until moving to Granton in 1938. After the dairy closed, Alfred went to work for the late Lloyd Spry at Spry’s Elevator in Granton. When rural electrification came, Alfred was approached by Vern Howard to go to work for Clark Electric Cooperative. In 1941, the family moved to Greenwood and Alfred worked for the co-op until retiring in April of 1974.
Marie is a graduate of Neillsville High School and from its teachers’ training department. She received her bachelor’s degree from UW-Eau Claire in 1963 and taught for many years in Clark County. At the time of his retirement in 1974, she was employed by the Greenwood School System.
In 1974, the couple sold their home in Greenwood and retired to the former home of Alfred at rural Fairchild.
The couple has two sons, DuWayne and Robert, both of Milwaukee, and a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Karen) Lovstad, of Chili. They also have six grandchildren.
Alfred enjoys fishing and hunting. Marie is active in church groups and homemaking.

Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Zimmerman, former Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) residents, celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary by holding Open House at the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Augusta, Wis., on Sunday, July 14, 1957, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
The church was decorated with white bells and gold streamers with large bouquets of gold colored chrysanthemums. The Rev. Allen Franke, pastor, gave a short talk and offered a prayer.
About 150 relatives and friends attended the party. Miss Carol Zimmerman, Janesville, granddaughter of the couple, presided at the guest book; the Ladies Aid of the church served the lunch; Mrs. Robert Dittner, Bayport, Minn., poured; Mrs. Gene Kohnke cut and served the cake, which was all white with a topping of gold and white bells and a gold "50."
The Zimmerman's received a purse of money, many cards, gifts and flowers, among them a bouquet of yellow roses and chrysanthemums, a gift from a nephew and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Zimmerman of Michigan, who were unable to attend.
Miss Amelia Krause and Carl Zimmerman were united in marriage at the home of her parents in North Freedom, Wis. on July 10, 1907. They were attended by Miss Anna Stabnow and Ed Sander, both deceased.
After spending the first few months in Wonewoc, they moved to Augusta. In 1920 the family moved to Greenwood, where Mr. Zimmerman managed the Greenwood Farmers' Cooperative Mercantile and Shipping Association Store. In 1928 they returned to Augusta where he , for a while, owned and operated his own store. For the last few years he has been a salesman for a clothing company in Janesville.
They have two daughters, Lucille at home, and Mrs. Wayne (Irene) Paddock, Augusta, and two sons, Everett, Janesville, and Carl Jr., Boston, Mas.; and two grandchildren, Carol and Anne Zimmerman.
Among those who attended the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. E.T. Opdycke, Mrs. Rachel Stabnow, Mrs. Louis Behrens and Cheryl, Mr. and John Meng, Greenwood, and Michael Smith, Las Vegas, Nev.

Mr. and Mrs. John Zobrak, Abbotsford, who’s 50th wedding anniversary was April 6, 1976, were guests of honor at an anniversary party given by their children.
It was held at the Dorchester Fire Hall on Saturday, April 10.
The Zobrak’s have five children: Mrs. William Durest (Harriet), West Allis; Mrs. Raymond Vieau (Virginia), Greendale; Mrs. Zygmunt Choroszy (Marvel), West Allis; Mrs. Edwin Wichlacz (Betty), Milan; Ronald Zobrak, Mosinee; 15 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren.
All their children and families attended but one, due to illness in the family.
Guests attended were Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Fischer of Sheboygan, brother of Mrs. Zobrak, also best man at their wedding; Mr. and Mrs. George Zobrak, Oconomowoc; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Zobrak, Chetek, and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Zobrak, Abbotsford, all brothers of John Zobrak. Recently, family and friends of Kurt and Emilie Zocher helped celebrate the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary.
A re-confirmation of vows, with a liturgist Sanford Moldenhauer, a grandson-in-law, was held at the United Church of Christ near Greenwood, followed by a reception at the American Legion Hall in Loyal.
Over 160 attended, including Kurt and Emilie’s son, visiting from Connecticut; one daughter, recently moved from Alaska with her two daughter; and one daughter from Minnesota with her husband, five grandchildren and one great-grandson. Other states represented were Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, New York and Florida. Five of the guests were also at the wedding in 1929.
Kurt and Emilie started their life together in Chicago, far from their native Germany. Kurt worked there until his retirement as technical superintendent of a yacht yard. At that time, they started a new career as owner-operator of a dairy-beef farm near Greenwood.

Harry and Margaret Zrutskie of Unity celebrated 70 years of marriage on June 24, 2009. Harry resides at Colonial House in Colby and Margaret still lives in Unity, Wis. Family members spent the afternoon with the couple at the Colonial House.
Harry and the former Margaret Kocian were married June 24, 1939, at Dorchester Lutheran Church.
Their family includes two daughters, Linda Bruesewitz and Dawn Littleton, and two sons, Terry and Dusty Zrutskie. They also have 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

The 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. George Zuehlke was celebrated Sunday with a service held at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenwood, with the Rev. LeRoy Urman of Withee officiating.
One of the original attendants was present; she is Mrs. Ruth Oelrich of Spencer, sister of Mrs. Zuehlke.
George Zuehlke and the former Regina Zielsdorf were married April 29, 1925, in the North Spencer Lutheran Church by her father, the Rev. A. F. Zielsdorf.
The honored couple has two children, Mrs. Roy (Audrey) Johnson of Humbird and George Zuehlke, at home; and four grandchildren. All were present for the occasion.
A dinner was served in the church dining hall to 70 relatives and friends at 4 p.m.
Mr. Zuehlke has been a member of the Clark Count Board of Supervisors for 20 years, is presently chairman of the county agricultural committee, president of Trinity Church and chairman of the Town of Loyal.
Mrs. Zuehlke is president of the Trinity Ladies Aid and is secretary of the Clark County Homemakers.

Mr. and Mrs. George Zuehlke Sr. celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary Sunday at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Greenwood.
Rev. Urman had a short service in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Zuehlke. A social hour followed the opening of gifts and punch was served by two nieces of Mrs. Zuehlke’s, Karen Ziehlsdorf of Milwaukee and Bernice Oelrich of Spencer. The wedding cake was served by sister-in-law of Mrs. Zuehlke, Mrs. Gerhardt Ziehlsdorf and a family friend Mrs. Oscar Johnson. The tables were decorated with cut flowers.
Present for the occasion were the couple’s son, George and their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Johnson of Humbird. Sixty guests were served and they came from the following places: Oconomowoc, Milwaukee, Pittsville, Sullivan, Taylor, Spencer, Schwano, Humbird and Loyal.

Nearly 300 guests greeted Mr. and Mrs. George Zuehlke at the new American Legion Club rooms in Loyal Sunday helping the honored couple celebrate their golden wedding anniversary was one of the attendants, Mrs. Alfred (Ruth) Oelrich of Alfred, a sister of Mrs. Zuehlke. The other attendant, Emil Naatz, now of Utah, was unable to attend.
Mrs. Verland Dux and Mrs. Wesley Schwarze were in charge of the punch bowl, while Dawn Johnson took care of the guest book for her grandparents.
Mrs. Zuehlke’s corsage of deeper lavender carnations and white chrysanthemums accented her lavender dress. Her husband wore a gold carnation on his lapel. Floral bouquets of gold and white were at either side of the wedding cake at the head table for the dinner. Mrs. Robert Johnson of Taylor had baked and decorated the cake.
Approximately 200 guests were served at the late afternoon dinner. Their pastor, the Rev. Douglas Groenewold of Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenwood, offered the prayer.
Mrs. Zuehlke, the former Regina Ziehlsdorf spent her early years at Swanville, Mn., before moving to Spencer, where she was graduated from high school in 1924. It was at Spencer where her father, the Rev. A. F. Ziehlsdorf, officiated at the wedding on April 29, 1925.
George Zuehlke was born at Golden Lake and came to the Loyal area in 1923, where he bought the farm the following year. It is there on Rt. 2 Loyal, they have made their home for the last 50 years. Both served on the rural school board at one time or another before the days of consolidation. Both enjoy playing cards.
Mr. Zuehlke has been chairman of the Town of Loyal since 1945 and has served on the County Board, including the committees for Agriculture, the Clark County Hospital, and as a member of the Aging Committee in Clark County. He also served on the Clark County Fair Board for nearly 20 years.
They are members of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Greenwood, where he was president for a number of years and is an elder at the present time. Mrs. Zuehlke teaches Sunday school as she has for nearly 40 years. She has been active in the Homemakers for many years and was secretary of the Clark County Homemakers for two years and Center chairman for five years. Through the years she had sung with the various women’s choral groups. She is also a member of the ladies Aid. During the summer she likes to do gardening and pick berries. Last winter she took up crocheting in an evening class.
The Zuehlkes have two children: George, Jr., of Loyal and Mrs. Roy (Audrey) Johnson of Humbird. There are also six grandchildren.
Among the guests from away were her brother, Gerhardt Zielsdorf, and wife, from Milwaukee, and a niece and husband, the Rev. and Mrs. William Robinson of Batavia. Two of Mr. Zuehlke’s sisters: Mrs. Annie Andre of Spencer and Mrs. Emily Wenzel of Sullivan, and brother, Otto Zuehlke, and wife, of Sullivan who had celebrated their 60th anniversary in February, also attended. Other guests came from Milwaukee, Oconomowoc, Eau Claire and other points of the state, as well as many from within the county.

Mr. and Mrs. John Zupancic of this city (Greenwood, Clark Co., Wis.) were pleasantly surprised at their home on Saturday, October 13th, 1962, in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Relatives from Waukegan, Ill. who attended were: Mrs. And Mrs. Anthony Zupancic, Mr. and Mrs. John Zupancic Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Joe Pabbick, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Pabbick and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Zupancic.
Other friends who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Stewart, Mr. and Mrs. John Snedic, Mr. and Mrs. George Seliskar, Mr. and Mrs. I.J. Koschak, all of Greenwood; and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Koschak of Waukegan, Ill.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Zurakowski celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Oct. 22 at the 11 a.m. high mass at St. Hedwig's Chapel. The Rev. Fr. Edward Masalewicz officiated the renewal of wedding vows.
They were married at St. Hedwig's Church on Oct. 18, 1916 by Rev. Fr. Frances Pudlo. They farmed in the town of Reseburg (Clark Co., Wis.) from 1917 to 1951, which then they retired to a small farm in the town of Withee, near Thorp.
The Zurakowski's are the parents of four children, two daughters and two sons: Mrs. Melvin Schmidt (Amelia) of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Steve Tienda (Phyllis) of Chicago, John and Lawrence, both of Thorp. The couple has 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Dinner and supper reception were held at St. Hedwig's Quonset Hall, with 355 relatives and friends present. The evening was spent dancing.
Out of town guests came from Stanley, Gilman, Withee, Milwaukee, Cudahy, Pewaukee, West Allis, Greendale, Oak Creek, Oconomowoc, Wauwatosa, Wis., Chicago, Norridge, Forest Park, Ill. Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, Mich., and Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Zurakowski will celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary this coming Saturday, October 16, 1976. An Open House in their honor will be held from 2 – 5 p.m. at their home east of Thorp on CTH X, Route 1. No cards are being sent, but all friends and relatives are invited to help them celebrate 60 years of wedded bliss.

A number of friends of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Zwick surprised them Thursday evening. The event was their 25th wedding anniversary. The evening was spent pleasantly in a social way, the guests on leaving wishing Mr. and Mrs. Zwick many more anniversaries.

Gene and Marge Zygarlicke of Marshfield celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 12, 2008. A reception was held at the pavilion at Wildwood Park in Marshfield, hosted by their children. Music was provided by the Wat Cha Callums polka band.
Gene and Marge were married Oct. 4, 1958, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield with the Rev. George Passehl officiating.
Gene was born Feb. 20, 1937, in the town of McMillan. The former Marge Schweikl was born Sept. 27, 1939, in Marshfield. They are both graduates of Columbus High School.
They have 10 children, 12 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Gene and Marge presently reside on the family farm southwest of Marshfield, where they have farmed for the past 49 years.
