Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Wachholz of 515 E. 5th Street, Neillsville, who were married April 7, 1915 in Springfield, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this weekend.

Saturday evening they will be guests at a supper at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William (Doris) Simek, on Bruley St., Neillsville. Sunday, they will hold open house from 2 to 5 p.m. in St. John’s Lutheran School.

Mr. and Mrs. Wachholz are expecting their five children and their families to be present. They are: Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Wachholz and son, Mr. and Mrs. William (Violet) Neuhaus and Miss Elaine Wachholz, all of St. Paul, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Hilton ‘Bub’ Wachholz and daughters of Columbus, O.; and Mr. and Mrs. Simek and son, Jim.

The Wachholzes were born in Marquette County, residing eight miles apart. They attended different schools, but were members of the same church.  They farmed for nine years in Westfield, then farmed near Edgar before coming to Clark County.  They located on a farm in the Town of York in 1928, and in 1945 they moved into their present home.

Mr. Wachholz was employed by the city of Neillsville for 19 years with the street department and also worked for the forestry department for six months.  Two years ago he suffered a light stroke.

Mrs. Wachholz worked on the hot lunch staff of Neillsville High School for several years.

Mr. and Mrs. Wachholz, who have five grandchildren, are members of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville.

Wagner, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur (48th - 14 October 1962)

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wegner celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary Sunday.  Joining them at dinner was their daughter, Doris Struble of Neillsville, and Mrs. Clarence Wegner and son, Wayne.  Their son, Clarence spent the weekend fishing at Yellow River.

Mr. and Mrs. Wegner were married in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Globe, on October, 14, 1914.  They have lived all of their married life on the home farm, about three miles south of Willard.  Mr. Wegner served for many years as chairman of the Town of Seif, and a number of years as a director of the Clark County Fair Association and is now president of the organization.  He has served as president of Immanuel Lutheran, as a director of the Neillsville Bank and has been active in town affairs.

Gerald and Joyce Wagner of Marshfield celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Aug. 23, 2008.

More than 100 people came to celebrate in their honor, at a surprise 50th wedding anniversary party held at the American Legion Hall, hosted by their children. Many good friends, relatives and neighbors attended.

They were married Aug. 27, 1958.

Gerald was born Sept. 13, 1930, in Marshfield, and is a 1948 graduate of Marshfield High School. He served in the military during the Korean War, from 1951 to 1953.

The former Joyce Baumgartner was born March 27, 1934, in Lindsey, and is a 1952 graduate of Marshfield High School.

The retired couple attend both St. John the Baptist Catholic church and Faith Lutheran Church.

Their children include Karlene Neyendank, Julie (Paul) Kramer, Tim (Francesca) Wagner, and Jay (Jeanette) Wagner. They also have 11 grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Waldhauser, who were married October 15, 1929 by the Rev. Father Herman at St. Bernard’s Parsonage, St. Paul, Minnesota, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary October 14, 1979.

Festivities for the day were an anniversary mass at 10:30 a.m. The Celebrant was Father Chester Osowski.

Dinner followed for the family and close friends in the church hall.

An open house was held at the American Legion Hall, Loyal, from 2 to 5 p.m. for friends and neighbors. For the occasion the honored couple’s attire was complemented with a corsage of tinted flowers to match her dress, and a white carnation boutonniere.

Mr. and Mrs. Eino Walkama, Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.), were hosts at a 6 p.m. dinner party November 15, 1975 at Ole Cedar House in Abbotsford, in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary, which they observed Tuesday.

There were 34 relatives present, including their three daughters and families, and grandchildren.

An open house followed the dinner at the Curtiss Community Hall, where a host of relatives and friends spent the evening dancing and socializing. Music was furnished by the Augustine Brothers.

Lunch was served by members of the family.

Eino Walkama, son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Walkama, and the former Elsie Williams were married November 25, 1925 at Hob Sound Florida.

They farmed in the Town of Hoard (Clark Co.) for 32 years.

They retired and moved in their present home in Curtiss in 1971.

The Walkamas are the parents of three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Vadnais, Fond du Lac, and Mrs. Herbert (Jean) Goessl and Mrs. Hoard (Jeraldine) Franke, both of Curtiss. They have nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Walkama wore a corsage of yellow roses and Mr. Walkama a yellow boutonniere.

Mrs. Walkama's brother, Clarence, who lives in California, presented the couple with a centerpiece of roses.

A mock wedding was enacted by the grandchildren.

Many friends and relatives of the Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Walker, from this vicinity, attended a golden wedding anniversary open house, held in their honor at the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church, Augusta, Saturday, October 14. It was a gala occasion with all of the honored couple’s immediate family present.

The Rev. Walker was the former pastor of two Humbird Churches for a number of years. Congratulations to you “young folks” and may you enjoy many more happy years together.

The fiftieth anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wallace was celebrated November 6, 1954, at the Legion Hall, Neillsville. A dinner was prepared by Mrs. Wallace for approximately 112 relatives and friends at noon.
 

Open house was held in the afternoon, after which gifts were opened.  A wonderful assortment of gifts and money was received.
 

A cafeteria lunch was served in the evening, after which about 200 friends gathered for an informal dance and good time.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wallmuth of Dewhurst area will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at their home, 1 ½ miles south of Hatfield, Sunday.  All of their relatives are expected to be present for an anniversary dinner, and all neighbors and friends have been invited to visit them at an open house from 2 to 5 p.m.
 

Fred Wallmuth was born at Elgin, Ill, July 19, 1887.  He was married May 6, 1908 to Lillian Henise, who was born in 1888 in Elgin. The marriage took place in the Lutheran parsonage at Elgin.  To this union seven children were born; Harold, dying in infancy. The six living children are: Mrs. Ralph (Mildred) Sheffer, Black River Falls; Mrs. Elmer (Ruth) Brookins, Dewhurst; George Wallmuth, Hatfield; Freddie Wallmuth, Arcadia; Mrs. Richard (Alice) Hanby, Black River Falls; and Mrs. John (Laura) Subke, Levis.
 

Mr. and Mrs. Wallmuth have 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  Mr. Wallmuth was employed for 22 years with the Clark County highway department, operating a grader in the Neillsville area for a number of years, and was in charge of highway work on County Trunk "J" for a number of years.  He operated a tavern in Dewhurst, near his home for several years and is now living in retirement.

York Center—Friends, relatives and neighbors gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louie Walter at Granton last Thursday evening, June26, to remind them of their 25th wedding anniversary.

Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. John Walter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Walter, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Schecklman and family, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sladek and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stochek, Mr. and Mrs. John Sladek and family, Mr. and Mrs. Milford Williams and family, and Chuck Rossow.

The evening was spent in visiting and singing, after a lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Walter received many lovely gifts, also a nice sum of money. The guests departed wishing them many more years of happiness.

The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Walter of Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.) was celebrated at the home of their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ed (Viola) Brumbaugh at Greenwood last Sunday. All of their children and grandchildren were present. They are: Mr. and Mrs. Ed Brumbaugh, sons Dale, James, Glen and Lee, of Greenwood; daughter Romelle of Chippewa Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Delores) Bukosky and sons Allen and Steven of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Donald (Virginia) Nyysti and daughter Lisa of Chippewa Falls; Richard and Frank Walter, Loyal.

The table centerpiece was a large cake decorated with gold roses and bells. A large plant of yellow chrysanthemums also centered the table, with one small plant of yellow mums on each side.

A big dinner and supper were served and were enjoyed by all being together.

On the 26th of Dec. 1923, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Walter celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their home in Neillsville, Clark County, Wis. Fifteen sat down to the bountiful dinner, with Mr. and Mrs. Walter presiding at the head of the table. A wedding cake adorned with "50's" on four sides, sat in front of them and suggested experience and early happenings and old friends since their wedding in Clark County fifty years ago.

They were married by Justice of the Peace Wilding at the home of the bride's parents, Mr.a nd Mrs. Carl Schoengarth in the town of Grant.

After dinner each related stories and accounts of those early days. Their wedding trip was to Farmington, Washington Co., to the home of the groom. The start to Marshfield was minutely describe, through woods, over logs and streams, on a jumper.

The jumper consisted of a large sleigh box about four feet by six feet and with one seat in it, a pair of runners and a pair of thills for the horse completed its equipment.

Marshfield had three house only at that time. Mr. Louie Rivers kept a small grocery stock, Marshfield's only merchant then; and he also kept a hotel and saloon.

The hardships, joys and struggles of the early pioneer settlers of Clark County, were illustrated by the vivid pictures, repainted by the active memories of these two well known settlers. The present generation owes a great debt to those who early settled our state, an particularly Clark County.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter were remembered by letters and presents from friends and relatives, who sent congratulations and wishes for their anniversary.

Mrs. Hulda Degener of Chili, Wis., and Mr. Albert Walter of Grant were present and the other son and daughters were prevented by distance from attending. They are Mr. Otto Walter, Hillsdale Mich., Mrs. Melvina Lange, Stillwater, Minn.; Mrs. Pauline Belden, Dickinson, N. D.
It was a happy day, full of love and cheer, one that will long be remembered.

Warner, Don/Lillian (45th - 23 SEP 1972)

Not too long ago, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Warner, lifelong residents, celebrated 45 years of married life.

A biographical sketch taken from the book "A Biographical History of Clark and Jackson Counties" was published in 1891 and donated to the Greenwood Library by the Warner family tells that Don's grandparents and parents were pioneer founder's of the city and community of Greenwood. Another edition of this book can be found in the public library at Eau Claire. Such high value is place on the book, that it cannot be taken from the library and is kept locked with the library's most valuable records.

Mark B. Warner, grandfather of Don, was a pioneer lumberman of the Black River Valley. Warner Township and the Town Warner were named after him. He was a soldier in the war of 1812 and came to Black River Falls in 1855, where he went into the lumber business for himself. At this time there were no roads except an occasion "tote road" on the river banks. He often met Indians in the deep woods, but was never molested. The sketch also told that Mark Warner was an exceptionally good hunter and always had more game than any other man, and thus his men in camp were always supplied with food. In the fall of 1871, Mark Warner settled on a farm near Greenwood. It was located in the dense woods with no roads except one "tote road" to Greenwood. Mr. Warner built up this farm in a fine farm of 320 acres, with 130 which he cleared. This farm is presently occupied by Don Ossman and family. It is located four miles north of Greenwood. Mark Warner built the present house which is on the farm.

In addition to farming, he successfully engaged in raising graded shorthorn cattle, graded Morgan and Black Hawk horses, and Poland China and Berkshire hogs. He was chairman of the town board, the County Board and also a member of the School Board. Politically hew was a Democrat. In 1856 he was married to Levina Richardson and five children, David, George, Gertrude, Henry and Leroy were born to this union. Leroy, Don Warner's father, was married to Mary Hammel and also settled in Greenwood in about 1880. They built and lived in the house presently located down by Black River Bridge. Four children were born to this union, Bessie, Maud, Harold and Donald. Leroy spent some time in Alaska during the Gold Ruth days, but returned to Greenwood when Don was about 14 years old.

On Sept. 23, 1927, Don was married to Lillian Jackson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Jackson of Longwood. Four children, Harold of Chetek, Norma (Mrs. Don Telford) of Eau Claire, Ann (Mrs. Tom Larson) of San Antonio, Texas, and Kenneth, who died in infancy, were born to them. They have thirteen grandchildren.

Don Warner worked as a mail carrier for forty years. He has served on the City Council for ten years and has been Mayor of the City of Greenwood for 2 1/2 terms. Both Lillian and Don have been active in church service, and Dona has also served on the Church Council. Lillian has given piano lessons and has served as church organist for many year. Mr. and Mrs. Warner have always given generously of their time to help Greenwood live up to its "Gleaner" title for many years, as being "The Biggest Little City in the State – inhabited by the best people living."

On Friday, Oct. 20, 1916 occurred the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Warner, they having been married in Lafargeville, N.Y. on that date fifty years ago. A large number of their nearer relatives assembled at their home on Stanley St., Thorp, Clark County, Wis., Friday to do honor to the occasion, those present being children: Bill Warner, Mrs. Abi Tunison, Mrs. Lizzie Powell, Mrs. Lucinda Brown, Mrs. Susan Allen; sons-in-law: W. C. Tunison, W. E. Powell, R. R. Brown, W. R. Allen; grandchildren: Stephen Warner, Ernest, Phoebe and Susie Evenson, John Evenson and wife Mary, Mrs. Ellen Kolpien, Alphonso and Sylvanus Tunison, Angus, Leo and Haskel Brown, Lydia and Arbutus Powell; great-grandchild, John Kolpein. In the evening Mr. and Mrs. Warner were treated to a surprise party by ladies of the W. R. C. Veterans and others. Both the day and evening passed off very pleasantly for all concerned and it is hoped that Mr. and Mrs. Warner May enjoy many more wedding anniversaries. Both relatives and friends presented them with some fine gifts appropriate to the occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Warner celebrated their fifty-ninth wedding anniversary at their home in Thorp, Clark County, Wis., Thursday, Oct. 20th, 1925. Among those who were present to help them celebrate were Roy B. Brown, wife and sons, Leo and Bryce, of Harlingen, Texas, W. R. Allen and wife, Bill Warner, Eidsvold, Dave Warner, wife and five children of Hannibal. Three of their children, Bill Warner, Mrs. Lua Brown and Mrs. Susie Allen, were present. Two, Mrs. Abi Tunison of Buckthorns, and Mrs. Lizzie Powell of Wakpala, S.D. were unable to attend. A substantial dinner was served at noon and a very pleasant day was spent by all.

Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Warner celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary at their home in this village on Wednesday, Oct. 20th, 1926. The following were present to do honor to the occasion: Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Dygart and Miss Florence Hilbo of Thorp, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Allen and E.J. Wood of Eidsvold, Mrs. W. C. Tunsion and son Sylvanus of Buckhorns, Mr. and Mrs. Claus Kolpien and son, Henry of East Worden, Bill Warner and son Stephen of Town Line, Miss Tillie Hakes of Ruby, Robert Miller of Stanley.

In the evening the members of the W.R.C. and their families treated Mr. and Mrs. Warner to a surprise party.

Mr. and Mrs. Warner were married at Laforgeville, N.Y., Oct. 20, 1866. They came to Juneau Co., Wis. in 1869, and to Clark County in 1874. After residing on a farm near Eidsvold for 40 years they moved to this place, which has since been their home.

Three of their five children, Bill, Abi (Mrs. Tunison) and Susie (Mrs. Allen) were among the guests at their anniversary.

The golden wedding ceremony of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Warns Sr., ages 70 and 69 respectively, took place at the Sacred Heart Church of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), Sunday, Oct. 9th, 1938. Their seven children, of whom six are married, and thirteen grandchildren surrounded the jubilant couple and friends filling the church to its capacity.

High Mass was sung by Rev. Father C.D. Brady. The altar was beautifully decorated and the ceremony ended with a te Deum.

The weather was ideal and in eight cars the celebrants motored to Abbotsford, where a fine dinner was served in the armory hall for the 40 relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Warns received many valuable presents.

In the evening a reception was held in the Clark Community Hall, where neighbors and friends had a big surprise awaiting them. Two chairs, one a lovely rocker, and the other a reclining chair, were presented to them. Fine music helped to pass the evening in a fittingly decorated hall.

The Fred Warns family moved from Milwaukee to their present farm in Taylor County, 33 years ago. The voters of his town honored him be electing him chairman many terms. He also served as school clerk for several years. Mr. Warns was most instrumental in the improvements of highways and schools of his town, and in organizing and leading successfully the Clark Community Club.

Children and grandchildren present were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Warns and five children, Lucille, Thomas, Raymond, Jerome and Patty Ann of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Warns Jr. of Clark; Mr. and Mrs. John Warns and family, June, Jackie and Henry of Withee; Mrs. Anna Malchow and family, Marion, Clarence, Margaret, Betty and Delores of Menasha; Miss Elizabeth Warns of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. William Warns, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Warns, both of Clark.

Out of town guests present were: Mr. and Mrs. Art Kass, Menasha; Albert Antolick, Chicago, Ill.; Francis Falk, St. Paul, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Zabrowski and family, Gilman, and Ten Scysniak, Lublin.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Warns, Sr., who have resided on their farm at Clark (Clark Co., Wis.) for the past 44 years, observed their 60th wedding anniversary Sunday with their children and families and other friends who joined them in their happiness on this celebrated occasion.

At noon a dinner was served to the immediate members of the family and relatives at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Warns, Owen. Later from two to four o’clock that afternoon a reception was held at the Jack Warns home at which time numerous friends called and congratulated the happy couple. They were also the happy recipients of many lovely cards and gifts from persons unable to attend.

The couple were united in marriage on Oct. 9, 1888, at Milwaukee, Wis. Sixteen years later they moved to their present home in the Town of Hixon. They had nine children, seven of which are still living and they and their families were all present at the anniversary party.

On Sunday, Oct 12th, 1952, Mr. Fred Warns and his wife Katherina celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.

They were married in Milwaukee, had 10 children, three of whom died in infancy, but the other seven were with them to celebrate the anniversary.  They have 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.  This family has lived at Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) for the past 47 years.  During most of the day the family re-unioned at the old homestead, and concluded the celebration with a chicken dinner at the Miru.  Almost as soon as they sat down at the table they began to sing, and continued as long as they were there.  After the dinner they expressed their joy and happiness in the occasion by dancing as well as singing.  All members of this large family have contributed much to the welfare and growth of this community, and although some of them have moved to other localities they still consider this home.

Sixty-five years of wedded happiness were recalled at a large family reunion held on Sunday, Oct. 11th, 1953 when the children of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Warns, Sr., honored their parents in observing their 65th wedding anniversary.

The couple have seven children 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, practically all of whom were able to be with them on this celebrated occasion.

On Oct. 11, 1888 the couple exchanged the sacred vows of matrimony in a ceremony performed in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee.  They later moved to this community (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.), settling on their present farm in the Town of Maplehurst (Taylor Co.), where they have resided since 1905.

Mrs. Warns health hasn’t been too good the past couple of years, but Mr. Warns says he is feeling "hunkeydorey."

GOLDEN WEDDING AND HOMECOMING

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Waterman of Abbotsford, was made the occasion of an enjoyable home-coming Tuesday, when their children arrived unexpectedly to help celebrate the event.

Frank Waterman, Nasonville and Miss Mattie Chamberlain of Plainfield who taught school in what was known as the Waterman district, were married March 20, 1878, at Nasonville, where they lived for a time. Later they took up their residence on a farm near Chili, where they continued to make their home for forty years. Nine children were born to them, two of whom, Rose and Ila Belle, have passed away. The remaining children are Mrs. Lottie Gibson of this village; Lemuel J. and Edward R. Waterman, Minneapolis; Clark R. Waterman, Mosinee; Jay N. Waterman, South Wayne; Wayne A. Waterman, Wauzeka.

Last summer Mr. and Mrs. Waterman arrived for a visit at the Gibson home and were so favorably impressed with this community that they purchased a home here in which they plan to spend their remaining days.

Those who attended the celebration included Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Waterman, Clark, Jay and Wayne Waterman and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Gibson and family.

Friends and neighbors gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Weber of Dorchester Wednesday night to observe their 53rd wedding anniversary, which was May 27, 1972.

Cards were played and prizes in pinochle were won by Mrs. William Jantsch and Bill Pinter, and in sheepshead by Mrs. Pinter and Nick Schumacher. Schumacher also received the men’s door prize, and Mrs. Lenhard Bischoff received the ladies door prize.

On Aug. 1, Mr. and Mrs. L. Weeks had been married sixty years. A number of their friends and neighbors gathered at their home in the evening, to congratulate them, and a very happy time was spent. Refreshments were served and in a quiet way the evening was made most pleasant. Without doubt Mr. and Mrs. Weeks have had the longest matrimonial voyage of any couple living in Clark County, and it is the hope of their many friends that their bark May sail pleasantly on for many years to come.

Mr. and Mrs. August Wegner celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 31st, 1937, at the home of their daughter, (Mary) Mrs. Louis Dudkiewicz at Green Bay. The pleasant day started with mass at church, after which a breakfast was served to relatives at the Dudkiewicz home. A very delicious dinner was enjoyed by over fifty people. A large cake, beautifully decorated to mark the day with gold leaves and white flowers adorned the table.

On account of Mrs. Wegner’s ill health, she was unable to attend church, so at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, Rev. Pawloski came to the residence where the family gathered to be present at the renewal of vows and a blessing given to the celebrants. Rev. Pawloski present them with a very beautiful remembrance in the form of a booklet marked for the occasion, and which contained a piece of wax that was bless by the Pope.

Upon request of their grandson, Bernard Dudkiewicz, their name was announced over the radio with hearty congratulations, after which they listened to Silver Threads Among the Gold, which was sang over the radio on their behalf. The day was tehn spent in merry making and playing cards, followed by a delicious supper served to all present, after which those from afar departed for their homes.

Mr. and Mrs. Wegner came to Wisconsin about 44 years ago and settled ont heir farm in the town of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.). To this union ten children were born, Agnes died in 1918 during the flu epidemic, Frank, Kate, Marie, Anne, Frances, John, Martha, Estelle and Betty survive. All with the exception of Frank were present. Those from out of town were: Mrs. Jos. Wagner and sons Ray and Junior of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Max Derentz and family of Harvey, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Chmel and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Kaminski, also of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. John Wegner and children of Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Jarocki and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Przybylski of Withee; also Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Krych and son Lenard, and Mike Dudkiewicz of Thorp.

Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Wehrman celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Sunday, July 16, 1972 by holding an open house. Later a dance and reception were held at the Midway Bar in Withee. Music was furnished by the Diamond-Aires.

Herbert Wehrman of Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.) and the former Cecelia B. Gabrovic of Willard (Clark Co.) were married at Loyal on July 19, 1947. They lived in the Withee vicinity for 21 years. They are the parents of four children, James of Abbotsford; and Nancy, Gary and Thelma at Home, and one granddaughter.

Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. James Wehrman and daughter of Abbotsford, his parents and brothers and families of Loyal.

Mr. and Mrs. William Wehrman of Loyal observed their Golden wedding anniversary with relatives and friends in the Spencer Municipal Hall Saturday, April 17. Their children hosted the event.

Floral centerpieces in golden hues were a gift of the grandchildren. Their great-grandchildren gave them corsages of yellow roses. The children also presented their parents with a color TV.

Martha Lemke was born in the Town of Sherman, where she lived until her marriage on April 15, 1921, to William Wehrman of the Town of Warner. They lived near Spokeville for six years and then bought 120 acres in the Town of Beaver, where they farmed until 1958.

In addition to raising 11 children, they are raising two grandchildren, Janet and Leonard Wehrman, who are in senior and junior high school.

Mr. Wehrman keeps busy during the summer with a garden of both flowers and vegetables. She likes to knit, crochet and piece quilts.

Both are members of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. He is a member of the Loyal American Legion Post, 175, and she belongs to the auxiliary. He served in the 3rd division during World War I.

Their 11 children are: Donald Wehrman, Lemont, Ill.; Herbert Wehrman, Withee; Raymond Wehrman, Oshkosh; Mrs. Louie (Agnes) LaBarge, Arpin; Mrs. John (Elaine) Gabrovic, Conrath; Allen Wehrman, Loyal; Wilfred Wehrman, Loyal; Mrs. Gerald (Alice) Kobiske, Loyal; Dale Wehrman, Milwaukee; Victor Wehrman, McHenry, Ill.; and Harvey Wehrman, Lemont, Ill. There are 38 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Anna Zuege Habbegger and Oscar Wehrman, their attendants 50 years ago were present.

Their daughter, Elaine, became Mrs. John Gabrovic on their Silver anniversary.

Their children were all able to attend the gathering. Their children are Donald Wehrman, Harvey Wehrman of Lamont, Illinois; Herbert Wehrman of Withee; Raymond Wehrman of Oshkosh; Mrs. Louis (Agnes) LaBarge of Arpin; Mrs. John (Elaine) Gabrovic of Conrath; Allan Wehrman, Wilfred Wehrman, Mrs. Gerald (Alice) Kobiske of Loyal; Dale Wehrman of Milwaukee, Victory Wehrman of McHenry, Illinois.

There are 39 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Both are active members of the Trinity Lutheran Church. They also belong to the Legion and American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Wehrman is also busy piecing and tying quilts for church missions.

The 70th wedding anniversary of Art and Lydia Weideman was celebrated at their home August 28th. 

They were married August 31, 1940, in the town of Wien. They purchased a farm in the town of Mayville in 1941 and farmed for 37 years. In 1978 they retired and moved to Abbotsford.

Their children are Jerry (Carol) Weideman, Janice (James) Mullarkey, Darlene (Warren) Talcott, Nancy (Richard) Goldschmidt, Jenny (Phillip) Ward, Wendy (Alan) Grewe and Carol (died in 1960). They have 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. 

In attendance were family and friends from San Diego, CA, St. Louis Park, Eagan and Edina, MN, Spencer, New London, Colby, Unity, Edgar, Dorchester, Curtiss, Marshfield, Fond du Lac, La Crosse, Little Chute, Weston, Schofield, Willard, Athens, Milan, Wausau and Abbotsford.

A bit of belated news has come with the report of the golden wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Weirather, at their home six miles from Keokuk, Iowa, on Feb. 3, 1941.  Mrs. Weirather, who maiden name was Elizabeth Repplinger, is the oldest sister of Frank Repplinger, and lived in Fairview (Jackson of Clark Co., Wis.) vicinity when a young lady, was seen by the groom-to-be.  He was interested, met her, and married her at Keokuk.  They have two sons, married and living near the home farm.  Mr. and Mrs. Weirather posed for a fine picture, with the mammoth cake and flowers on their anniversary day at their farm home.  And Mrs. Weirather, although a very infrequent visitor here, has been a reader of the Enterprise since it was established more than thirty-six years ago.

An old-fashioned "shivaree" was given by friends, relatives and neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Weis in honor of their 20th wedding anniversary on Wednesday evening, October 15, 1969.

Cards were played and refreshments and lunch served. The honored couple received gifts and a purse of money.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Weis of Unity celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Saturday evening, October 12, 1974 at the Sword, Colby. An anniversary mass was celebrated at 8 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby. Father Frank Rushman officiated.

Immediately following mass, Mr. and Mrs. Weiss repeated their marriage bows of 25 years ago at the altar with their original wedding attendants as witnesses, sister and brother of the couple, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Weis of Green Bay. Following mass a reception and dance were held at the Sword, with music by the Green Valley Dutchmen of Marshfield. A mock wedding was acted out by their daughters, son-in-laws and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Weis wore a corsage of red roses with white mums, and her husband a red rose boutonniere presented by their children and two grandchildren.

A large anniversary cake was baked and decorated by a sister of Weis, Mrs. Wilbur Mellenthin, and presented as an anniversary gift. The girls of Unity United Neighbors 4-H Club each made a cake for the occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Weis are leaders of the club.

The original wedding attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Weis, Green May, Mr. and Mrs. George Bauer Jr., Unity, Mrs. Wilbur Mellenthin, Unity, Robert Endres, Spencer, Roger Gennett, Spencer and Mrs. Elmer Schemenauer, Cedarburg. Mrs. Charles Hansen was absent.

At 12 o’clock Mrs. Weis appeared in her original wedding dress, veil and shoes of 25 years ago, as the band played “Here Comes the Bride.”

Present for the occasion were the couple’s seven children: Mrs. Mike (Bonnie) Jelinek, Mrs. John (Bev0 Bohte and Linda Weis, all of Wausau, Mrs. Thomas (Diane) Beyerl, Marathon, and Cind, Jeff and Ricky, at home. A large money tree was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Weis from their children, and a silver cross studded with rhinestones.

Mr. and Mrs. Weis presented each of their children and sons-in-lw, bridal attendants and parents with a corsage and boutonniere.

Guests were from Green Bay, Spencer, Cedarburg, Loyal, Marathon, Wausau, Rib Lake, Medford, Colby and Marshfield. Man beautiful gifts and money were presented to the honored couple. A lunch was served to complete the evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Weix, Colby, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Sunday with a Thanksgiving mass at 9:30, with Father Rushman officiating. Mark and Darrel Miller, grandsons, were mass servers, Paul Kipp, their son-in-law, was soloist. The barbershop quartet of Wisconsin Rapids sang several selections.

The Weix’s were married at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Rozellville, with Rev. Lochnit officiating at the ceremony August 24, 1936.

Attendants from the original wedding mass were present and are Dr. Frank Weix, Marshfield, Barbara Weix, Colby, and Joe Wilben, Marshfield.

The Weix’s have 10 children. They are: Lynn (Mrs. Arnold Lueth), Sparta; Donna (Mrs. Duwayne Francen), Luanne (Mrs. Larry Weix), Barbara (Mrs. Paul Kipp), Diane (Mrs. David Weix), Joe at home; Julianne, Marshfield, (Judy) Mrs. Larry Gorski, Mosinee.

Mr. and Mrs. John Weix celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on November 14th. The day’s festivities began at 9:00 A.M. with a special high mass at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Rev. N. B. Beschta officiating. Dinner was served in St. Mary’s gymnasium at noon for members of the immediate families, relatives and friends.

The couple was married in Watertown on November 14th, 1900, and moved to a farm in the town of Hull where they resided until 1943 when they moved to the city of Colby, They have two children, Marzell Weix of Dorchester and Mrs. John (Delephine) Gries of Colby, Wis. Also one grand daughter, Mrs. Lester (Marcia) Miller and one great grandson, Russel Miller, of Abbotsford, Wis.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Weix observed their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday, June 23, 1969, with open house and buffet supper at their country home west of Colby.

Among the guests were all the members of the wedding party, who were Mrs. Frank Carpenter, Colby; Al Beyerl and Ralph Andrews, Colby; Dorothy Techmier, Stanley, and Mrs. Al Hubbard, Thorp.

Ray Weix and Ruth Mertens were married at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thorp on June 23, 1944. Rev. Arnold Mucaerheidy officiated at the ceremony.

Since that marriage the couple has lived on their farm west of Colby (Clark Co., Wis.). They are the parents of 11 children: Rose Ann, Eau Claire; Bonnie Jean (Mrs. David Burch), Superior; John, Jacqueline (Mrs. Tom Younker), Green Bay; Sharon and Nancy, Oshkosh; Debbie, Janet, Beatrice, Marjorie and Thomas.

All the children were in attendance and Mrs. Weix’s brother, Fr. M. Mertens, recently transferred from La Crosse to Holy Family Parish at Willard; Fr. John Olson and Fr. Frank Rushman were among the guests. Other guests were from Thorp, Stanley, Green Bay, Superior, Oshkosh, Dorchester, Abbotsford, Colby, Whitehall and the surrounding communities.

George and Loretta Weller, who married September 9, 1944, celebrated 65 years of marriage at the Colonial Living Center in Colby on September 13th.   
 

George, the youngest of five children, had four older sisters, Elsie, Dorothy, Erna and Hilda. Erna Hoffman lives in Wausau.   
 

Loretta, the older of three children, has two younger brother, John and Lawrence. Lawrence Stettler lives in Abbotsford.   
 

George and Loretta raised 2 children, Richard Weller of Burnsville, MN, and Eileen Dahl of Colby.  They have 5 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 13 step great-grandchildren and 3 step great-great-great grandchildren.   
 

The Weller’s are life-long members of the Colby community. They are members of the first United Church of Christ at Colby.   
 

George is retired from Packaging Corporation of America and Loretta cooked at the Colby High School and worked as a sales clerk for many years at Skogmos in Abbotsford.   
 

They also farmed in the town of Hull for 25 years before moving into the city of Colby.
 

The anniversary was attended by many friends and relatives from the Colby area as well as relatives from Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Mr. and Mrs. William Welsh of Wibaux, Montana, and daughter, Mrs. J. C. Fleischmann of Billings, Montana, arrived in Loyal, Thursday, June 7. On Wednesday Mr. and Mrs. Welsh celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary by greeting relatives and old friends during the afternoon and evening when open house was held at the home of his sisters, Miss Nettie Welsh and Mrs. W. I. Mack.

Among the many gifts received by the couple was the outstanding gift of their trip to their old home town by their daughter.

Maggie Vogel, the daughter of Anna and Charles Vogel, was born March 31, 1883 at Hewitt and later moved to Loyal with her parents. William Welsh, son of Mary and Henry Welsh, was born at Walnut Hill, Illinois, January 17, 1879.

Both received their education in Loyal.

They were married at Dickinson, North Dakota, Wednesday, June 13, 1906. Following their marriage they homesteaded in Montana, near Wilbaux, where they engaged in farming for 38 years. After retiring from farming Mr. Welsh did carpenter work, and in 1946 they moved to Hamilton, Montana, returning to Wilbaux in 1949, where they have since resided.

Among the many who attended the open house were two brothers and one sister of Mrs. Welsh; Matt Vogel of Loyal; Louie Vogel of Greenwood; and Mrs. Bert Pope of Loyal.

Mr. and Mrs. Welsh and Mrs. Fleischmann, their only child, left Monday afternoon for their homes in Montana.

Friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Wendt were entertained Sunday afternoon and evening, October 2, 1960, at their home in obaserance of their 25th wedding anniversary.

Florine Abel and Adolph Wendt were married in the Immanuel Reformed Church, October 2, 1935, by the late Rev. Paul Franzmeier.

The couple has three children, Geraldine, who is employed at the Rose Marie Shoppe in Eau Claire, Carol, a junior at Wisconsin State College, Eau Claire, and Dennis, who is a sophomore at Greenwood High School. All were present for the occasion.

A three tiered anniversary cake centered the table, and a delicious lunch was served to about 175 guests.

The anniversary cake was cut by Mrs. Karl Laube of Colby, a sister of Mrs. Wendt. Miss Lorraine Laube of Marshfield, pout the coffee.

Mr. and Mrs. Wendt received many gifts and congratulatory cards.

Surprise Gathering is held for the Wendts:

Greenwood - Relatives and friends attended a surprise 40th wedding anniversary celebration in honor of Mr. and Mrs. John Wendt at their home Sunday afternoon, May 1, 1949. The honored couple received a purse of money from those present.

Miss Clara Noah and John Wendt were married April 28, 1909, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Noah, in Greenwood. They have the following children: Mrs. Adolph (Bertha) Gander of Danville, Ky.; Mrs. Burnell (Leona) Erickson of Madison; Adolph Wendt, Edgar Wendt and Mrs. Daniel (Alice) Olson, all of Greenwood; and 17 grandchildren. Their daughters, Mrs. Gander, her husband and three children, and Mrs. Erickson, her husband and six children, were not able to attend.

A large number of friends and neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. A. Wenzel held a surprise on them Monday night to celebrate the event of their silver wedding.  Six tables of cards were played, after which an elaborate supper was served.  The floor was then cleared for dancing and the guests enjoyed this pastime for a few hours.  Mrs. M. Kappellen and Nels Crandall received first prize at cards, and Mrs. Hubbard consolation prize.

Last Thursday, Jan. 23, after the terrible Wednesday, was still a very cold day. But in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Wenzel it was cozy and warm. It was their golden wedding day. Due to the frailty of the aged couple they did not desire a large celebration, but rather preferred to observe the day in a quiet way. However Mrs. Wenzel remembered that the minister ate dinner with them fifty years ago and she wished to have their minister and his wife for dinner on this day. Hence it came that Rev. E. H. Vornholt and wife had the privilege to celebrate the day with them.

After the meal, Rev. Vornholt read a few verses of Psalm 71. He reminded the aged couple of the privilege to pray as did the Psalmist. "Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth. Yea, even when I am old and grayheaded. O’ God, forsake me not, until I have declared thy strength unto the next generation; thy might to every one that is to come." Sorrows and hardships; joys and pleasures were briefly reviewed. After the golden wedding we are on the last lap of our journey; the road has already begun to slope downward but it matters not even if it lands us at last in the valley of the shadow of death. Even there His rod and His staff will comfort us and we need fear no evil. After a prayer the minister raised his hands over the aged couple and said: "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Love of God the Father and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit abide with you forever."

In the afternoon a few friends came to show the Wenzels that they were not forgotten. Forgotten? No. The many beautiful flowers from South Dakota, Chippewa Falls and elsewhere as well as the many greetings and best wishes from many places showed that folks had remembered the day.

Among the gifts was a beautiful gold bouquet in a gold vase, presented by Neillsville friends, and a centerpiece of golden cosmos for the dinner table, sent by Mrs. Wenzel’s sister, Mrs. Robert Boehm.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Werle, well known residents of Clark County, Wis., was the scene of a pleasant gathering, Tuesday evening, April 20th, 1926, when about twenty-five of their friends and neighbors gave them a pleasant surprise to remind them they had been married fifty years. So carefully had the affair been planned, that it came as a complete surprise to Mr. and Mrs. Werle.

The evening was spent in a social way and with games, after which a bountiful supper was served, a beautiful wedding cake with 50 golden candles occupying a prominent place on the table. The table decoration was a bouquet of yellow daffodils and white carnations.

The relatives from away who were present were Mrs. Louisa Morgenroth of Milwaukee, a sister to Mr. Werle, and Miss Clara Werle of Marshfield.

Mr. Werle who is 70 years old, was born in Washington Co., and Mrs. Werle who is 67 was born in Manitowoc Co. They were married on April 20, 1876 and in 1879 came to Clark County, settling near Spokeville, where they bought 80 acres of wild land, which they have converted into an improved farm and where they have since lived and are now enjoying the fruits of their labor.

They have 7 children, Adolph of Winfield, Kansas, Mrs. George Pellholpf of Milwaukee, Robert of Spokane, Wash., John of Wagner, Mont., Clara of Marshfield and Mrs. Frank Lulloff and Ella of Spokeville. Only three of the children were present at the anniversary.

The couple was presented with many beautiful gifts and flowers.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Werle are enjoying good health and it is the wish of their many friends that they live to enjoy many more anniversaries.

Fifty friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Westphal, home of them guests at their marriage 25 years ago, arranged a happy surprise for the couple at their home on West 5th street Sunday evening in honor of their silver wedding.

Margaret Wegner and Claude Westphal were united in marriage June 26, 1912, at Globe Lutheran Church in the Town of Weston, Rev. H. Brandt performing the ceremony.

Rev. Bauman gave a short service after which the evening was spent in congratulations, visiting and playing games. Mr. and Mrs. Westphal were presented with a purse of silver and other sliver gifts by the guests and a beautiful frame silver wreath encircling verses, appropriate to the occasion, by their children, Evelyn, (Mrs. Walter Johnson), William and Marvin. The Westphal family circle was broken in 1933, when their son, Harry, was drowned.

At midnight a fine lunch, brought and prepared by the guests was served. A delicious 3-layer wedding cake, decorated with silver leaves, was baked and ornamented by Mrs. Robert Schlinkert and her daughter, Helen.

Mr. and Mrs. Claude Westphal celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson, on West Fifth Street.

Claude Westphal, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Westphal of Neillsville and Margaret Wegner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wegner of Pine Valley, were married in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Globe June 26, 1912. The Rev. Herman Brandt of Neillsville officiated.

After the wedding the newlyweds went to housekeeping in Greenwood, where Mr. Westphal was employed.  They moved to Neillsville in 1916 residing on East Sixth Street.  In 1933 they moved to the present location at 407 West Fifth Street.

Claude Westphal was born August 17, 1891, in the Martin Hauge residence on East Fifth Street; Mrs. Westphal was born May 16, 1894, on the Timmler farm near Pine Valley Mound.

Mr. Westphal was employed 39 years with the Northwestern Railroad as section foreman on the Marshfield to Merrillan run, in other areas of Wisconsin and as foreman of an extra gang, a job which took him as far as Omaha, Nebr.  He retired in November, 1957.

Mr. and Mrs. Westphal are the parents of four children and five grandchildren.  The daughter, Mrs. Walter (Evelyn) Johnson of Neillsville and three sons: Harry, who drowned in Lake Arbutus October 22, 1933; William of Framingham, Mass.; and Marvin of Norfolk, Nebr.

The golden wedding was celebrated by the family at a dinner Sunday noon and at a luncheon for others at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Mrs. Victor Schlinkert made the wedding cake and Robert Johnson, a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Westphal, furnished the floral displays.  Members of the family attending the celebration included: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson and Robert of Neillsville; Mrs. William Westphal and children, Sandra and Billy of Framingham, Mass.; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Westphal and son Monte, of Norfolk, Nebr.  The son Marvin (William), and grandson Dennis Johnson, were unable to attend.

Mr. and Mrs. Claude Westphal were to arrive home today (Thursday) from Framingham, Mass., where they have been visiting their son, William Westphal, and family, since Memorial Day. While in the east, Mr. and Mrs. Westphal observed their 55th wedding anniversary. Married June 26, 1912, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Globe, they lived in Greenwood until 1933. Since then they have made Neillsville their home. Mr. Westphal retired in 1957 after working for 39 years as section foreman on the Omaha Railroad.

A surprise golden wedding anniversary celebration was held at the Arthur Nemitz home in the Town of Hewett (rightfully Pine Valley), Saturday night, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Otto Wetzel of Rt. 3, Neillsville.

Otto Wetzel and Anna Kvittem were married in Fort Atkinson November 21, 1910.  They lived there about a year, and then moved to North Dakota for a couple of years.  Since that time they have been living in the Neillsville area, and at present are on a farm about three miles southwest of Neillsville, in the Town of Pine Valley.

Those present included three daughters of the couple and members of their families: Mrs. William (Mildred) Bozman of Mattoon, Ill., Mrs. Leonard (Ruth) Godwin of Mukwonago; and Mrs. Oscar (Evelyn) Walk.  The fourth sister, Mrs. Russell (Marian) Holton of Arlington, VT., was unable to attend, but telephone her congratulations during the event.

A number of the friends of Mr. and Mrs. N. J. White gave that couple a very pleasant surprise last Wednesday evening, the occasion being the 26th anniversary of their marriage. The band was present and played several selections, while some of the former graceful dancers ambled around the dining room and actually believed they were cutting as fine a figure as they did twenty years ago. But, just the same, a jolly good time was had. Ice-cream and cake were served, also cigars.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wibben were greeted by friends and relatives at a surprise party given by their children Friday evening at the VFW hall in honor of the birthday of Mrs. Wibben and the 25th wedding anniversary on the same day.

Mr. and Mrs. George Wicker observed their 50th or golden wedding anniversary at the Methodist church in Colby, Wisconsin Tuesday evening when a large number of friends called and extended congratulations.

Mr. Wicker was born on a farm in the town of Hull on June 24, 1878, and Mrs. Wicker was born in Dell Rapids, S. Dak., on January 1, 1877. They were married at Marshall, Wis., on June 14m 1905. They lived on a farm in the town of Hull until nine years ago when they moved to Colby, Wis. They have one son, Gilbert Wicker, of Arpin, Wis.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wiersig celebrated their twenty-fifth or silver wedding anniversary at the St. John’s hall Sunday afternoon and evening. Mrs. R. H. Markus played the wedding march, "Here Comes The Bride" while the wedding family marched to their chairs after which Mr. W. Wiersig, son Arthur, and daughters, Eveline and Irma, sang the hymn, "The Lord Has Helped Me Hitherto." Then Rev. Hoffmann delivered a short address which was followed by the hymn, "Abide With Me, Fast Falls the Evening Tide." In the evening, games were played.

Mrs. W. Wiersig was born in the town of Colby on Nov. 20th, 1887, and Mr. Wiersig was born in the town of Sherman, Sheboygan county, May 24th, 1884, and came to Colby with his parents. They were married in Colby Oct. 15th, 1908, at the Zion Lutheran church by Rev. Witchunke. They have six children: Arthur, Eveline, Erma, Raymond, Lenhart and Donald, all at home.

Mr. and Mrs. Francis Wiese of Abbotsford celebrated their silver wedding anniversary at their home during the past week end.

Francis Wiese and the former Mary Kittel were married at Holy Rosary Catholic church, Medford, July 27, 1940.  They farmed on the former Frank Wiese farm, north of Abbotsford on highway 13, the first years of their marriage and for the past 18 years Mr. Wiese has been employed by the Christensen Sales Corp. of Abbotsford and is presently engaged as a carpenter for the firm.

The Wieses have five children, Michael, Audrey and Dean, at home, Mrs. Carlton (Loretta) Pecher, Abbotsford and Mrs. David (Jaunita) Krug, rural Owen.  They have two grand daughters and two grand sons.

The 54th anniversary of their wedding was celebrated by Mr. and Mrs. Bert Wilcox of this city (Greenwood, Clark Co., Wis.) last Sunday, when they were guests of honor at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wilcox of Avoca. They made the trip to Avoca Saturday with another son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Waite Wilcox, Marshfield.

Mr. and Mrs. Wilcox have been residents of Greenwood since 1917, when they came here from the Town of Hendren (Clark Co.). They arrived in Clark County from Woodstock, Ill., in 1911, and spent the next six years farming near Tioga. Mr. Wilcox was assessor of the Town of Hendren at one time.

Born in McHenry County, Ill., on March 4, 1867, he married Miss Hesper Bigelow, also a native of McHenry County, at Woodstock on Dec. 24, 1885. Mrs. Wilcox was born on Oct. 28, 1866.

Their eight children are Mrs. Emil (Maude) Siemer, Elgin, Ill.; Clarence, Avoca; Waite, Marshfield; James, Little Valley, N.Y.; Mrs. Forest (Pearl) Chadwick, Randolph, N.Y.; Clark, Basco; Mrs. Floyd (Helen) Christie, Glen Flora; Homer, Cattaraugus, N.Y. Mr. and Mrs. Wilcox also have 32 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. All of the children were present at the reunion held on the occasion of their parents’ golden wedding four years ago.

A surprise dinner party was held at the Meadowview Country Club on Sunday, August 3, 1975 in celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Foster Will’s fortieth wedding anniversary. Given by their children, the dinner and party were held from 2 to 5 p.m., with a mass read that morning at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 10 a.m.

The children attending were their three daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Renick (Charlotte), and sons Greg, Brent and Keith of Owen, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ciszewski (Lana) and children Perry, Terry and Jeanie of Ingleside, Illinois, and Mr. and Mrs. Larry Lokken) Ginger) and children Mike and Monica.

Mr. and Mrs. Foster Will were married on August 13, 1935 at St. Anthony’s Church at Loyal.

Mr. and Mrs. Neland Will were given a surprise Silver Wedding Anniversary celebration at the Spencer Municipal Hall Saturday, September 2, 1972.

The highlight of the event was a mock wedding, which consisted of the bride, played by Sonja Strieter, wearing the original wedding gown of Mrs. Will, with a veil attached to a hat rim sprayed silver and a crown of flowers made of colored egg cartons.

The bride’s bouquet was a large head of cabbage infested with a large rubber beetle and worm. She wore a pink garter decorated with an orange poppy.

The groom was played by Mrs. Norma Schaefer, who wore a browns suit and red and white gingham shirt. His boutonniere consisted of a large pickle with vines and a pink dahlia.

Maid of honor was played by Ronald Schultz. Her attire was an aqua metallic dress with diamond buttons. Her wrist corsage was a white rose with an octopus on it. Her headpiece was of pink veiling.

The best man, Shirley Witte, wore a brown suit, white shirt, brown corduroy hat with a spider dangling from it. His boutonniere was three red beets combined with bridal wreath entwined through part of an egg carton.

Bridesmaid was Pauline Zassenhaus, who wore a deep rose dress of tiered lace with matching headpiece. Her wrist corsage was a pink dahlia with bridal wreath. Her groomsman was played by June Uerling, who wore a kaki army uniform and cap and large army boots. His boutonniere was three carrots with the greens entwined through part of an egg carton.

Another bridesmaid was Cindy Strieter, who wore a pale blue low cut dress. Her wrist corsage was a deep dark red dahlia with ivy vines. Her groomsman was Rose Johnson, who wore a dark suit, white shirt and a hat trimmed with silver pine cones and green and white ribbons. His boutonniere was three onions and pea vines entwined through egg cartons.

The mother-in-law as played by Lona Strieter, who wore a calico gown and gray wig. She carried a pistol and pushed a baby carriage, in which Carla Will was riding as the baby. She wore a huge bonnet and had a quart bottle with a milk inflator for a nipple.

Officiating servant was Erma Schultz, who was dressed in a blue robe, dark pants and white turtle neck shirt. She carried a 1906 Clark County Atlas, in which the mock ceremony was written.

The bride was given a heart shaped pillow upon which was place a miniature bride and groom, silver bells, a little white bible, a green vine with blue flowers and a large diamond ring for the bride. The groom’s ring was two large red and white dice.

After Will took the garter from the mock bride and threw it into the crowd, he received a large gold chain with a chief bartender bottle opener on it.

A large crowd of friends, neighbors and relatives helped the Wills celebrate. Lunch and refreshments were served to all who attended.

Mr. and Mrs. Ellen Schiszik and son of Berwyn, Ill. were weekend guests at the home of Mrs. Ida Schiszik and Lionel. On Saturday they all attended the Golden Wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Williams at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Holway. Mrs. Tesinski is a sister of Mrs. Williams.

Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Williams observed their 41st wedding anniversary over the weekend. Their children took them to a local supper club and dinner. Then Sunday, they were honored with an open house at their home on Rt. 2 Granton, with around 150 relatives and friends in attendance.

Wedding cake, bars, punch and coffee were served. A heart-shaped wedding cake was made by their daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Sharon) Draves and was decorated by Mrs. Bud Hansen, a neighbor.

Oliver Williams, son of the late Art and Teckla Williams, and Hazel Paler Williams, daughter of the late Mr./Mrs. William Paler, were married October 19, 1935, at the Neillsville Methodist parsonage, with the Rev. Paul B. White officiating. Rev./Mrs. White have been retired and residing at Merrimac for several years.

They were attended by his sister, Mildred Williams, and Albert Zank, now Mr./Mrs. Albert (Lefty) Zank.

Mr. Williams was born in Chicago and moved with his parents to the Town of Levis, when he was 1-1/2 years old. They lived in various places, then moved to the Town of Washburn when he was 10 years. He started school in Levis and also attended Cannonville School. He served several years as supervisor on Washburn town board and also was an officer with Washburn PTA when there were the country schools here. He also did carpenter work, hauled milk and farming. They both are members of United Methodist Church in Neillsville.

Mrs. Williams was born at Paschal, N.D. and moved to the Town of Washburn when she was six years old and also attended Cannonville School. She attended high school in West Bend and worked there. She also was employed in Chicago before her marriage and was employed as a nurse’s aide at the old nursing home in Neillsville in 1960. She is a member of the Cannonville Ladies Aid and Washburn Homemaker Club and has held offices on both organizations.

To this union, five children were born. They are Rodger of Williams Bay; Mrs. Nathan (Jean) Vandeberg of Wisconsin Rapids; Wendell of Marshfield; Mrs. Marvin (Sharon) Draves of Kewaskum; and Marvin of Eau Claire. All were present for the occasion. They also have 14 grandchildren.

Special guests attending the open house were his mother, Mrs. Teckla Williams, 90, and Mrs. Dessa Short, 91, from Memorial Home, and Mrs. Chris Feutz, 87, an old neighbor who resides on her farm.

Then also, from away were their children and families; and a long list of relatives, acquaintances from near and far that came for the occasion.

They had planned to celebrate their 40th anniversary but he was in Marshfield hospital having heart surgery at that time.

Mr. and Mrs. William Willner of Spencer celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Saturday, Jan. 9, 1965. Open house was held at the home from 2 to 5 o'clock, followed by a 5 o'clock dinner for relatives and close friends at Christ the King Catholic Church, Spencer, and an evening reception at the Municipal Hall. The seven children of the couple and all of the grandchildren were present for the celebration.

During the evening the children staged a mock wedding. Music was furnished by Marvin Augustine and his son.

Mr. Willner, a native of Evanston, Ill., and Miss Apalonia Bach, who was born at Marathon, Wis., were married Jan. 7, 1915 at St. John's Catholic Church, Edgar. They lived at Fenwood, Auburndale, Townsend, Abbotsford and Colby before moving to their present home in Spencer. Mr. Willner, a carpenter by trade, is presently employed at Spencer Sports.

Mr. and Mrs. Willner have two daughters and five sons: Mrs. Earl (Caroline) Koehler of Edgar, Mrs. James (Jeanette) Werner of Wis. Dells, Lester of Colby, Willard of Shawano, former owner of the Edgar Weekly Review, Bernard of Carpentersville, Ill., Reinhold of Janesville, and Emery of Chicago.

There are 25 grandchildren.

Mr. Willner has one sister, Mrs. Ewald (Sophie) Schmidt of Edgar, and Mrs. Willner has one brother, Leo Bach, in Wyoming.

A surprise Silver Anniversary party was given Saturday for Mr. and Mrs. Mack Wincek.  A pretty wedding cake was made by their eldest daughter, Mrs. Stanley Burzynski, who arranged the party.  Guests were: Mrs. John Krueger Jr. and daughters, Mrs. Florence Droesser and son, Miss Rita Krueger, all of McHenry, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Merl Samplawski, Janet and Eugene, Mrs. Katherine Novak, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley J. Burzynski and children.

Nice gifts were received by the Winceks, including a silver money tree.

Mr. and Mrs. Del Winchell held open house, Saturday, at the Legion club house, Dorchester, in observance of their golden wedding anniversary. About 200 guests were served supper, enjoyed visiting and card playing and a midnight lunch. The honored couple received many beautiful gifts in remembrance of the occasion.
 

Relatives and friends attending came from Chicago, Minneapolis, Stevens Point, Westboro, Medford, Stetsonville, Dorchester, Colby, Merrill, Milwaukee, and Abbotsford.
 

Mr. and Mrs. Winchell are natives of Dorchester and attended the Dorchester school. Mr. Winchell was born on his father’s homestead, two miles north and one-fourth mile west of the St. Louis Catholic church corner, Aug. 28, 1885. Mrs. Winchell, the former Clara Krackenberger, was born at Dorchester, Feb. 15, 1888.
 

After their marriage, April 3, 1907, they lived on the homestead for 39 years. They bought the former Chris Bremer farm in the town of Mayville and lived there about two years, then sold it to Emil Schraufnagel and moved to Dorchester.
 

They have five children, 16 grand children and 20 great grand children. All the children and their families attended the celebration. They are Mr. and Mrs. Donovan Winchell and three daughters, of Oak Lawn, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Jack (Eunice) Heier and five children, Medford; Mr. and Mrs. Max (Verna) Wilke and five children and Mr. and Mrs. Frank (Nora) Lang and two daughters, of rural Dorchester; and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Winchell and daughter, of Dorchester.
 

Mrs. Winchell has two brothers, George Krackenberger, Medford; and Ray, Dorchester; and two sisters, Mrs. William Koerner, Lake Geneva; Mrs. O. H. Lulloff, Kennewick, Wash.; and Mrs. Frank Hagelmeier, Medford.
 

Mr. Winchell has a brother, Joel, of Dorchester, and two sisters, Mrs. Wilbur Kayhart, Green Bay; and Mrs. Herman Will, Calumet, Minn.

Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Wing of this city observe their golden wedding anniversary Dec. 5, being married in Neillsville, Dec. 5, 1880. Except for a period of fifteen years, all of their married life has been lived in Neillsville.

Martin Wing is generally known about Clark County, as he followed the mason trade until ten years ago. Mrs. Wing is of a ret??ing nature and a lover of everything literary, Books are her friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Max Winkler celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday at the home of their son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Helmuth Winkler, in the Town of Grant.  There were married April 10, 1909 in Berlin, Germany, and came to America on the S. S. Arabia in March, 1926, making the Atlantic trip in 14 days.

Mr. Winkler was born November 18, 1886 in Faust Lausitz, Germany, and his wife the former Ida Schucker, was born October 20, 1888, in Berlin.  Mr. Winkler served with the German Army in World War I, learned the florist trade in Germany, and located in Chicago on coming to America. He was employed for 23 years in meat packing and candy manufacturing, and in 1949 he was retired.  He and his wife came to Clark county to make their home with the Helmuth Winklers.

Winnebago School (75th Anniversary - 26 September 1954)

The observance of the 75th anniversary of the Winnebago School last Sunday lacked the Rev. Ben Stucki, who has been carrying the load as superintendent many years.  While his friend an associates were celebrating achievement, Mr. Ben, as many call him, was having a tussle with his nerves at Wisconsin General Hospital, Madison.  He is suffering from nervous exhaustion, and will require a period of unknown duration for rest and recuperation. 
 

In his absence the members of his family altered their plans and turned in to back up the head of the family and to carry on in the Stucki tradition.  The importance of this was borne in upon Mrs. Stucki at 2:30 Tuesday morning.  She couldn’t sleep, but she was thinking about the family and about the way the children had turned in when the pinches have come.  So she arose, and in the night wrote this intimate family story of what the family has done to back its head and to carry on in the missionary tradition of the (and that story is missing. Many friends and relatives, including their four children, joined Mr. and Mrs. Arno Winter in a February 22 celebration and worship service at the Zion Lutheran Church, Town of Grant, in honor of the couple’s 50th wedding anniversary.

The Rev. Ernest Hoff, Eau Claire, offered a special prayer of thanks at the 8:00 p.m. service with a social hour and lunch following the event.

On Sunday, February 26, a potluck dinner was held at the Winter home. Decorated anniversary cakes were created by Cathy Winter. Those attending included the couple’s four children and their families, Mr. and Mrs. George (Lola) Eloranta and family, Owen; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin (Lorraine) Porath and family, Owen; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Winter and family, Granton; and Mr. and Mrs. Glen (Ethel) Raplinger and family of Port Edwards. The Winters have 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Rod Porth and Chad, Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. Steve Brown, Boulder Junction; Barbara Elmhorst, Madison; and Norma Marg, Ruth Winter, Mr. and Mrs. Celon Winter and Albert Marg, all of Neillsville.

Arno and Nina Winter were united in marriage on February 28, 1928, in an evening ceremony in the church parsonage, officiated by the Rev. John Booth.

Arno was born in 1907 in the town of Lynn while Nina was born the same year in Owen. They farmed for two years in the Town of Lynn, then moved to their present farm in the Town of Grant in 1930. Nina also taught at the Roder School for two years.

Arno is now semi-retired, but he still takes care of the young stock and chickens on the family farm.

Richard Arnold and Catherine Ann Winter of Granton celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on August 30, 2009.
 

A dinner was held at the home of Paul, Julie and Marissa Plautz of Greenwood, WI with all of the couples’ children and grandchildren, brothers and sisters and many other relatives and friends. A mock wedding was held with Hannah Strickland, granddaughter, of Stratford, WI, as the bride, Phillip Sersch, friend, of Stratford, WI, as the groom and Tom Elmhorst, brother of Cathy Winter, from Alburque, NM, as the Pastor. Attendees were Lorraine Porath, Owen, WI, sister of the groom, bridesmaid. Gerry Scharf, sister of the bride, Granton, WI, bridesmaid. Barbara Bendlin, Milton, WI, flower girl, sister of the bride. Deceased members of the wedding party, Don Scharf, brother in law of bride, Neal Fero, friend of the groom and Debbie Porath, niece of the groom, flower girl.
 

They were married September 5, 1959, at Zion Lutheran Church (Mapleworks) in, Granton, with the Reverend Lawrence Schrieber officiating and the Reverend Marvin Beninga as the soloist.
 

Richard was born July 8, 1932 in the Town of Grant to Arno and Nina Winters. He graduated from Granton in 1950. He lived at home until enlisting with the Army’s Military Police in New York 1956 to 1958.
 

The former Catherine Elmhorst was born May 19, 1941 in the Town of York, Granton to Frederick and Christine Elmhorst. She graduated from Loyal High School in 1959. She lived at home until her marriage in 1959. Her hobbies include cake decorating, walking and reading, baking and cooking, and enjoying her grandchildren.
 

The couple currently attend Zion American Lutheran Church in Granton, where Richard has been on the Church Council and Catherine has been a Sunday School Teacher.
 

Since their marriage, the couple have farmed in the Town of Lynn, Granton which was originally the Henry Winter Farm, Richard’s Grandfather’s farm which has been in the Winter family for 118 years. They farm with their son Kevin who has a Honey Bee Business with 35 Hives of bees. They sell the honey in local stores and from home.

Mr. and Mrs. Irving Stevens entertained Tuesday in honor of the 67th wedding anniversary of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Winters of Neillsville.

Dinner guests at the Stevens home, besides the honored couple included their other daughters and husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Wall and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Vincent, and their granddaughter, Mrs. Jack Urban and family.  The Winters started housekeeping on the farm now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Reinart.

Mr. Winters is 92 years young, and Mrs. Winters is 91.  They both are quite active.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Winters quietly observed their 70th wedding anniversary Friday at their home at 304 Court Street in Neillsville, with their three children and their families present for the occasion.

Their children are Mrs. Irving Stevens of Shortville, Mrs. Floyd Wall and Mrs. Jim Vincent of Neillsville.

The Winters operated the Shortville Store for a number of years before moving to Neillsville.  They also farmed for many years in the Shortville area.

Mr. Winters was active in public affairs, having been town chairman and supervisor for the Town of Washburn and school treasurer.  He also took the census for several years.  He had been a director of the Lynn Mutual Insurance Company for 40 years.

They have seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. and Mrs. Winters have the distinction of being the oldest living married couple in Clark County.  They are 95 and 94 years young.

GOLDEN WEDDING OBSERVED AT HOME NEAR LYNN

Mr and Mrs. Wm. Wischulke observed their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, May 7, at their home in the town of Lynn. A 6 o'clock dinner was served for a large company of relatives and neighbors.

The golden color scheme was carried out in yellow and white cut flowers and crepe paper. A large decorated wedding cake was used as a centerpiece for the table. Mr. and Mrs. Wischulke were both born in Schliesin, Germany.

Mr. Wischulke was born June 27, 1858, coming to this country with his parents when a lad 8 years of age.

Mrs. Wischulke was born Dec. 6, 1864, and came to Wisconsin with her parents at the age of four years, and the family settled on a farm in Ozaukee county for several years, coming to Clark County and settling on a farm adjoining that of the groom's parents.

They were married in Zion Lutheran Church May 7, 1883, by Rev. Fischer. They settled on a farm of their own which has been their home all their married life.

The couple has three children: Mrs. Walter Moldenhauer, who lives on a farm in the town of Grant; Edward, of the town of Lynn; and Walter at home. They also have three grandchildren: Alfred Moldenhauer, Irma and Wilbert Wischulke.

Out of town relatives and friends here for the event were: Mr. and Mrs. Emil Arndt, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Gruenewaldt and son Walter, Mrs. Max Kiermse, Mr. and Mrs. C. Reisse, Mrs. Albert Moths, Mrs. Milton Moths, and Meta Steige, all of Random Lake.

Witt, Albert and Martha  (FEB 1903-14 FEB 1953)

On a bright cold Saturday in February in 1903 Martha Degen and August Witt were married at the Degen farm home 3 ½ miles N. W. of Loyal. Their wedding trip was made with horses and sled from the Degen home to the Witt home near Spokeville. In the sled with them was packed their wedding gifts.

On another bright , cold February day, Saturday the fourteenth, 1953, their Golden Wedding Day was due, and to celebrate the happy occasion the children came back to Loyal. For all the 50 years of their married lives the Witt’s have lived in or near Loyal.

They lived on their farm near Spokeville until 1925 when they moved into the village. Here Mr. Witt worked at various jobs until in 1936 he bought the feed store on the north side of the village. Later he sold this store, and about three years ago he built the meat market which he and his son, Albert, operate.

The anniversary was celebrated on Sunday, and present for the occasion were their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold (Alma) Paepke and one daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Ella) Zuege and son of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Edward (Agnes) Traeder and one son, Rhinelander and son Albert.

Their only wedding attendant still living, Mr. Witt’s sister, Mrs. Frank Degen of West Allis, was unable to be present.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Wittkamp of Abbotsford observed their silver wedding anniversary Saturday with a reception and open house at the city all at Abbotsford at 7 o'clock.

Among the guests were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Auberson of Marshfield, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Riter of Madison. Mrs. Arthur Popp of Minneapolis, a bridesmaid at the wedding, was here for the silver wedding celebration, and the three children of the honored couple also were present.

Other guests came from St. Paul, Chetek, Wis. Rapids, Port Edwards, Pittsville, Stetsonville, Medford, Unity, Colby, Granton and Abbotsford.

The former Jean Marie Auberson and St./Sgt. Donald Leroy Wittkamp of Ft. Monmouth, N.J. were married in Marshfield March 28, 1943. For the first two years of their marriage they lived in Long Branch, N.J., while he was in the service. They then made their home in Marshfield, and 12 years ago, April 28, took over the root beer stand and the former Goldamer Garage in Abbotsford. Six years ago, Ray Schirmer bought the garage and Mr. Wittkamp built the Wittkamp Body & Paint Shop, which he is presently operating.

Mr. and Mrs. Wittkamp are the parents of three children, Mrs. George (JoAnn) Mueller, Abbotsford, Mrs. Dave (Mary) Holtzhausen, Chicago, and Robert, at home.

They have two granddaughters, Samantha Mueller and June Holtzhausen.

The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wittke will be celebrated Saturday, March 28, at an open house in the American Legion Hall from 2 to 5 p.m.

Grace Shummel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Shummel, and Henry Witke, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Witke, were married March 27, 1909, at the residence now occupied by Mrs. Lizzie Schultz on West 5th Street, which was then a part of the Frank Hewett farm.  The ceremony was performed by the Rev. H. A. Risser, the Congregational minister.  The groom’s brother, Herman Wittke, and Myrtle Evans (later Mrs. Louis Hantke) attended them.

Henry Wittke was born on a farm near Decatur, Ill., on March 20, 1888, and when eight years of age he came with his parents to Neillsville.  In the fall of 1896, the Wittke family moved onto a farm in Weston, where Henry attended the Uncle Sam School.  Later the family purchased a farm in Pine Valley, near the present Kurt Marg farm, and Henry attended Grandview school, from which he was graduated from the eighth grade.

After their marriage, Mr. Wittke and his father-in-law, George Shummel, operated the Hewett farm for a year and then the Wittke’s moved to St. Paul, where he was employed on the streetcar line.  Later they moved to Milwaukee, where he was employed in a machine shop, and in 1917, they returned to Neillsville and hired out with the Oatman Condensed Milk factory that was then in the process of construction. 

Mr. Wittke worked 36 years with the Oatman and its successor, the American Stores, the last 32 years of which he served as fieldman.  In 1955, due to ill health, he took his retirement and was confined to his home for two years.  When his health improved he was elected justice of the peace for the city of Neillsville, in which capacity he has served for three years.

Mrs. Wittke, the former Grace Shummel, was born in the Martin Hauge residence on East 5th Street.  She attended the Neillsville grade school and was graduated from the Neillsville High School.

Mr. and Mrs. Wittke lived for a period in the Bruley house on West 8th Street, owned the home now occupied by the John Swenson family on West 5th Street for 18 years, lived five years in the Krumrey house (now the office of Martha A. Foster), lived a year in Granton, a year in the Bradbury apartments, and the last ten years have owned their home of 419 Grand Avenue.

"Our wedding day in 1909", said Mr. Wittke, "was a very cold and stormy one.  Most of the highways were blocked with snow, there were no snowplows and some relatives coming for our wedding from Greenwood had to drive through the fields on a bobsled drawn by horses."

Three children were born to their marriage, all of whom plan to attend the golden wedding celebration Saturday with their families.  Nelda, Mrs. Jack Parrett, of Milwaukee, will attend with her husband and four children: Nita, Mrs. Victor Schultz of Eau Claire, will attend with her husband and son, Gary; and Daryl of Black River Falls will attend with his wife and three children.  One great-grandchild, Connie Jo Parrett, is expected to attend.

Other relatives expected are: his brothers, Ferdinand of Neillsville, and Herman of Clintonville; his sister, Mrs. Edna Wilms of West Allis; her sisters, Mrs. Nellie Armitage and Mrs. Asa Darling and her husband of Neillsville.  Many friends and neighbors are expected at the open house.

In addition to their children, the Jack Parrett’s of Milwaukee, the Victor Schultz family of Eau Claire, and the "Bud" Wittke family of Black River Falls, their eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild were present.  Also attending were Mrs. Wittke’s sisters, Mrs. Nellie Armitage and Mrs. Asa Darling with her husband.

On August 30, 1969, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Wnek celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Hedwig’s Chapel. The 5 o’clock Mass was officiated by Fr. Constance Chilicki, with the St. Bernard’s adult choir, accompanied by Al Ciolkosz, sing the Mass hymns.

Following, a reception was held at the Thorp Legion Hall, where a 7:00 supper was served by the Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Joe Panek acted as hostess and served the anniversary cake, which was baked and decorated by Mrs. Bob Wnek, daughter-in-law of the couple.

Later that evening, the guests were entertained at a dance where the music was provided by Felix Zasacki’s Polka duet. Members of the family and friends devised a mock wedding to commemorate the wedding day of the couple. The humorous scene found the role of the priest played by Mike Lagowski. The bride was Mrs. Jim Sobczynski, and the groom, Ed Broda. Other members of the bridal party included Mrs. Larry Keller, Mrs. Bob Wnek, Margie Bielecki, Mrs. Joe Panek and Debbie Panek.

At the hall, 2 posters composed of family pictures, depicting the 50 years of the couple’s married life were set up. The photos were arranged in order from past to present, by granddaughters, Arlen and Nancy Arciszewski.

Peter Wnek was married to Elizabeth Nowobielski on September 23, 1919 at St. Hedwig’s Church by Fr. Pudlo. After their marriage they resided in Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.). In 1921 they moved to Chicago, where they lived for 5 years. They came back to this area in 1926 and made their home on a small farm in the town of Withee (Clark Co.). Their present home near Thorp is where they have resided since 1948.

They have four children: Mrs. Mike (Florence) Lazowski, Oshkosh, Wis., Mrs. Jim (Louise) Sobczynski, Palatine, Ill., and Mrs. Stanley (Dolores) Arciszewski, Thorp; and bob of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Many close friends and relatives attended the celebration. Mrs. Nick Kowieski, maid of honor, and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Strzok were the only attendants present. Mr. and Mrs. Val Wojner of Abbotsford were honored at a surprise party Saturday, Nov. 9, 1968, in celebration of their 30th wedding anniversary. It was given by their children: Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Wojner, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Wojner and Mr. and Mrs. Paul (Wendy) Kramas.

The 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wolf was celebrated Sunday, June 8, 1958 with an anniversary mass at St. Mary's Church in Greenwood by Rev. Edward Hartung, pastor, with their children and grandchildren attending.

Miss Eva B. Enders and Joseph Wolf were marriage June 4, 1918 at St. Mary's Church, Greenwood, with the late Rev. Father Charles Achtlick officiating at the Nuptial Mass. The attendants were Mrs. Madeline Seymour, Marshfield, sister of the groom, as bridesmaid, and Chauncey Seymour, as best man (now deceased).

A group of near relatives were entertained during the afternoon and at a 5:00 dinner at their home on Sunday. Friends and neighbors gathered for the evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wolfram celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary Sunday, July 24, 1966 with an "open house" at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Curtiss from 2 to 5 o'clock in the afternoon, and receiving guests again that evening at the home in Owen.

Wedding anniversary morning began with the Wolframs attending the morning service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Curtiss, at which their son Norman rendered a solo during the service, "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say." Their pastor, Rev. Tellock conducted the service before an altar decorated with yellow roses and yellow carnations in their honor.

At the afternoon reception the Ladies' Aid of St. Paul's served the lunch and refreshments. A lovely decorated wedding cake was the center of interest at the tables and gold vases held yellow roses. A large number of friends and relatives attended the afternoon and evening gatherings.

Mrs. Wolfram's corsage was a yellow rose and yellow carnation arrangement, and Mr. Wolfram wore a yellow carnation boutonniere. Both of their children and their families were here for the occasion.

Arthr Wolfram and the former Edith Myhre were married on June 27, 1916 at St. Paul by a Lutheran minister in the rectory of the Good Shepherd Church. They made their first home in Ladysmith and later moved to Owen, where they have lived for almost forty years.

Mrs. Wolfram was born in Sheboygan July 12, 1889, one of four children. Still living is his brother at Fort Atkinson, and a sister at Sheboygan. His oldest brother, Oswald, passed away in March at Sheboygan.

He was first employed in Amery, and when moving to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) he worked in the cannery. Later he was employed by the Soo Line and also worked as a postal clerk. Later in life he was employed at Foremost Dairy in Owen, where he worked until his retirement.

Mrs. Wolfram was born Dec. 6, 1896 at Lanesboro, Minn., later moving to Amery with her parents, brothers and sisters, where they lived on a farm. She was one of nine children raised there and at present has four brothers and two sisters living.

The Wolframs have two children, Rodger, who is married and live in Eau Claire, and Gloria, Mrs. Norman Erickson, now living in Stoughton. They lost three children in infancy and a daughter, Virginia. They have nine grandchildren.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Wolfram are in good health and in their retirement have been enjoying their children and visiting many relatives. Mrs. Wolfram was an ardent trout fisherman a few years back, at which time he haunted the streams in northern Wisconsin much of his time. Of late his fishing trips are but few.

Since Mrs. Wolfram's retirement from the Master Package Corp. of a year ago, she finds enjoyment in her flower garden and visits with her children and grandchildren. They are both fond of traveling and have made many trips to California, Seattle, Wash., Niagara Falls, Minneapolis, Sheboygan, Fort Atkinson, Amery, Clear Lake, visiting friends and relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wolk, 856 W. 18th Ave., Oshkosh, former Colby (Clark Co., Wis.) residents, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary September 19, 1970 with a family dinner.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wolk presented flowers to his parents, and also Mrs. Neva Harry, who was maid of honor at their marriage.

Floyd Meach of Milwaukee was the best man. Other attendants were Bessie (Wolk) Grunewald of Ohio and Harold Reeves of Abbotsford, who were unable to attend the observance.

Also attending from the area was Mary Johnson of Owen.

After the dinner was served, the Wolks were presented with a 50th anniversary cake.

Mr. and Mrs. Wolk moved from Colby to West Allis in 1927 and moved to Oshkosh in 1963. They have one son, Donald, and two grandsons.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wood, of the town of Brighton, celebrated the forty-fifth anniversary of their marriage, last Sunday. Those present were: E. Creed and wife, J. W. Salter and wife, and Mrs. F. H. Darling, of Unity, Fred Straub and wife, of Hull, Wm. Salter, of Prentice, and T. Wescott, of March. They all enjoyed a very pleasant day and also the sumptuous dinner served at the "Forest Home Farm." Mrs. Wood was the recipient of some handsome presents.

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. August Worchel was observed at their farm home in the town of Seif on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Mr. and Mrs. Worchel had expected only their children and their families, so when the Rev. and Mrs. Adolph Schumann and the members of the Ladies’ Aid of the Globe Lutheran church arrived in the afternoon it was a pleasant and complete surprise to them.

Supper was served to the group and in the evening more of the neighbors went to the home to congratulate this worthy couple. Flowers and other gifts were presented as tokens of esteem in which Mr. and Mrs. Worchel were held by their neighbors and friends.

They were married Jan. 20, 1892, in the town of Grant to which Mr. Worchel came with his parents at the age of eight, the family coming from Germany. The newly married couple lived for a time in Eau Claire county, near Cleghorn, and at Alma, Wis., before coming to the town of Seif in 1902, where they purchased the Jake Schwab eighty. Their farm now consists of 160 acres. They have been hard working, frugal farmers and splendid citizens. As a young man, Mr. Worchel worked in lumber camps and in the Minnesota harvest fields. Mr. Worchel is 85 and his wife 73. Mrs. Worchel has been most active in the work of the Ladies’ Aid. She also is a member of the Homemakers club of her community, enjoying the association of younger people. Her maiden name was Alvina Kaufmann. She also was born in Germany, coming to the town of Grant with her parents when she was 16 years of age.

Mrs. Worchel is an aunt of Carl and Bernice Buddinger of York, who attended the celebration.

Neillsville Couple Are Married 60 Years Sunday; Event Held

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wren, who were married Oct. 15, 1901, in the Methodist parsonage at Neillsville, celebrated the 60th anniversary of that event on Sunday

Amy King, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward King of the town of Grant, and Thomas Wren, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sereno Wren, of the same township, were married by the Rev. A. V. Ingham, pastor of that church in 1901. Attendants at that ceremony were her nephew, Roy King, and her sister, Mrs. Frank (Etta) Ruddock.

After their marriage, the Wrens lived in Randall and Little Falls, Minn., Mr. Wren being employed in a lumber mill. In 1902 they returned to Clark County to locate at the home of Mr. Wren's parents to assist with the operation of the farm and a sawmill.

The anniversary pair purchased a residence in Sydney, which is two miles west of Neillsville, in 1921 and since that time they lived at that locate.

Mr. Wren, a mechanic, worked 19 years with a threshing crew, 14 of those years in Wisconsin and the remaining five in the Dakotas. He also operated a steam engine for rolling new streets and highways and is widely-known for his skill in repairing lawn mowers.

The seven children born to the Wrens are Mrs. Louis (Myrtle) Polzin, Sturdevant; Mrs. Ernest (Dorothy) Karnitz, Neillsville; Mrs. Sam (Nina) Rush, Merrill; Miss Helen Wren, at home; Elmer Wren and Mrs. Louis (Hada) Cardarelle, West Bend; and Gilbert Wren, Neillsville, Wis.

They also have 26 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren

Their 60th wedding anniversary will be observed Sunday by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wren of Sydney.

Amy King, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward King of the Town of Grant, and Thomas Wren, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sereno Wren of the town of Grant were married October 15, 1901, in the Methodist parsonage in Neillsville.  The Rev. A. V. Ingham, pastor of the Methodist Church officiated.  They were attended by her sister, Mrs. Frank (Etta) Ruddock, and her nephew, Roy King.

The newly weds spent the winter of 1901-02 in Randall, Minn., and the winter of 1902-03 in Little Falls, Minn., where Mr. Wren, now was employed in a lumber mill. They returned to Clark County in 1902, locating at the home of his parents in the Town of Grant, where they assisted with the operation of the farm and the Wren saw mill, which was at the present location of the Walter Larsen farm.

In 1921, Mr. and Mrs. Wren purchased a residence in Sydney, two miles west of Neillsville, where they have lived since.

Mr. and Mrs. Wren are the longest residents of Sydney and Mr. Wren has often been spoken of as "the mayor of Sydney."

Seven children were born to them: Mrs. Louis (Myrtle) Polzin of Sturtevant, Mrs. Ernest (Dorothy) Karnitz of Neillsville, Mrs. Sam (Nina) Rush of Merrillan, Helen at home, Elmer and Mrs. Louis (Hada) Cardarelle of West Bend, and Gilbert of Neillsville.

They have 26 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.  The grandchildren include: Jon Karnitz; Betty, Louis, Dorothy, Elenore, Robert, Marvin, Thomas, Lamont Polzin; LaVerale, Marian, Laura, Ernest, Irvin Rush; Ardith, Donald, Malvin, Janel, Dennis Cardarelle; Eddie Wren; Linda, Rochelle, Judy, Ronnie, Larry and Tommy Wren.

Mrs. Nina Blackman accompanied Mrs. Bill Hrasky and Carol, and Mrs. Frank Ruddock, to the Tom Wren home at Sidney Saturday for the 63rd wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Wren.  Immediate members of the family helping their parents observe the event were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Karnitz of Neillsville, Mrs. Sam Rush of Merrillan, Helen Wren, at home, and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Wren of Neillsville.  A daughter, Mrs. Polzin of Racine, and a son, John, were unable to attend.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wren of Sidney will observe their 64th wedding anniversary Saturday. A family gathering is being planned by their daughter, Helen, who makes her home with them.  Expected to attend are the following children: Mrs. Myrtle Polzin of Sturtevant, Mrs. Louis Cardarelle and Elmer Wren of West Bend, Mrs. Sam Rush of Merrillan, Gilbert Wren and Mrs. Dorothy Karnitz of Neillsville. Mr. and Mrs. Wren, 86 and 87, respectively, were married October 15, 1901. They have lived in their present home for the last 41 years.  Both enjoy good health.  Mr. Wren in earlier years operated a saw mill near his home, and in later years was engaged in sharpening lawnmowers.  He is now retired.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Wren observed their 68th wedding anniversary, October 15, 1969, at their home in Sydney. They have lived here most of their lives with the exception of a few years, which they spent in Minnesota.

Mr. Wren has farmed, worked in saw mills, worked for the city and has sharpened many lawn mowers through the years. (Those were the days of non-motorized lawn mowers. Dmk)

Their children came to visit them, but not all were able to come on the same day. They are: Myrtle Polzin of Sturtevant; Dorothy Karnitz of Neillsville; Nina Rush of Merrillan; Helen, at home; Elmer and Mrs. Louie (Hada) Cardarelle, both of West Bend; and Gilbert of Neillsville.

They have 30 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Wren is 90 and Amy is 91 years old, and both are in fairly good health.

Mr. and Mrs. Wucki were married in Neillsville April 25, 1943, by the Rev. George Longenecker. Mrs. Wucki was Irene Habal before her marriage. They have two children, Mrs. Robert (Irene) Linstedt, and Walter, Jr.

The Wucki’s entertained at a family anniversary dinner at a nearby supper club Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wyczawski celebrated their Golden Jubilee on Sunday, July 6th, 1958 with a high mass at 9:00 at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church where they were married 50 years ago.  They were preceded into the church by one little grandson, Steven Carl Wyczawski.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wyczawski were blessed with eleven children, 6 living sons and one daughter.  One daughter died at ten months and a set of twins died twenty-four hours after birth, and one son passed away at the age of twenty-seven.  They have 19 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.

A reception and dinner were held at St. Hedwig’s Catholic School Hall.  After that there was a gathering at the Z & P. Hall.
