Mr. and Mrs. Aloys Van Den Heuvel of Gilman observed their 30th Wedding Anniversary on Oct. 30th, 1965, with a 7:30 p.m. dinner at Koolmo's Club, Gilman. Their seven children and eight grandchildren attended. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Dick Witschen, Sauk Centre, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Van Den Heuvel and family, Gilman; Mr. and Mrs. Don Dobrzynski, Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. George Lauer Jr. and family, Stanley; Miss Annette Van Den Heuvel, Chippewa Falls; James Bischell, Bloomer, Wis.; Dick Van Den Heuvel, Gilman; Cecilia Zajack, Wausau, Wis.; Harold Van Den Heuvel, Gilman; and Mrs. Theresa Van Den Heuvel of Gilman.
For the occasion Mrs. Van Den Heuvel wore a navy blue dress on which a corsage of white Fuji mums were pinned, centering the table was a three tier anniversary cake made by Mr. and Mrs. Dick Witschen.

The golden wedding anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Van Dreel was observed Sunday. During a 10:00 o’clock High Mass, at St. Thomas’ Catholic church, Milan, the honored couple, their children, grand children, and one great grand child, received communion.
Yellow chrysanthemums were used in the corsage of Mrs. Van Dreel and a yellow chrysanthemum boutonniere was worn by Mr. Van Dreel. Yellow chrysanthemums decorated the altars and at the reception were used on the table, combined with gold flecked candles and a four tier wedding cake, baked by a grand daughter, Mrs. Gerald Muehler, Abbotsford.
About 100 relatives joined them at a family dinner and in the afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00 o’clock, open house was held at the Milan school basement with about 200 persons attending. The festivities closed with a dance in the evening at Cherokee hall.
Mr. and Mrs. Van Dreel were presented with many lovely gifts, among which was a wrist watch for each of them from their daughters.
Among the relatives here for the golden anniversary were the attendants at the original ceremony, Mrs. Hattie Hinkins, sister of the groom, of Little Chute, and John Van Den Brook, brother of the bride, of Appleton.
Relatives and friends came from Minneapolis, Appleton, Green Bay, De Pere, Stratford, Little Chute, Wisconsin Rapids, Ladysmith, Dorchester, Colby, Marathon, Thorp, Edgar, Athens, Curtiss, and Abbotsford.
Anton Van Dreel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Van Dreel, was born March 15, 1875, at Freedom. Mrs. Van Dreel, was born Elizabeth Van Den Brook, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Van Den Brook, of Menasha, June 19, 1886. Both were educated in the Catholic school at Freedom.
After their marriage, Nov. 28, 1905, at St. John’s Catholic church, Little Chute, they went to farming in the town of Frankfort, near Cherokee, where they lived for 26 years. In 1941, they retired and came to Abbotsford to live. The past five years they have lived at Milan.
They have three daughters, Mrs. Leo (Henrietta) Diers, Mrs. Alfred (Leona) Carter, both of Athens, Route; Mrs. Robert (Loretta) Amacher, Colby; one son, Lawrence, address not known. There are 20 grand children and 17 great grand children.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Van Dreel observed their 50th or golden wedding anniversary Saturday, April 25, with a mass at St. Mary’s Catholic church in the morning, Rev. John B. Pinion officiating, which was followed with a dinner at St. Mary’s gym at at 11:30, a reception from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Cherokee Hall, supper at the gym at 4:15 P.M. and a dance at Cherokee Hall in the evening. Eighty persons were served dinner and 150 for supper.
Mrs. Van Dreel, the former Mary Schilling, was born at Sherwood, Calumet county, on January 8, 1892, and came to this community with her parents in 1903. Mr. Van Dreel was born on June 2, 1880, at Freedom, Wis. and came to the farm where the Van Dreels now live in 1908. They were married in St. Mary’s church at Colby on April 20, 1909, by Rev. J. W. Schramm. Their attendants were Mrs. Hattie (Van Dreel) Hinkins of Little Chute and Joe Schilling of Colby who were present at the celebration, and Mrs. Lena Schilling, deceased, and George Van Dreel of Appleton who was not present at the celebration.
They are the parents of eight children - three sons and five daughters - Mrs. Jos. (Roselyn) Schmirler of Edgar, Mrs. Lloyd (Helen) Treankler of Stratford, Jerome Van Dreel of Wisconsin Rapids, Mrs. Otto (Verena) Lueschow of Wisconsin Rapids, Mrs. Louis (Ludmilla) Klonowski of Wisconsin Rapids, Virgil Van Dreel of Colby, Route 1, Floyd Van Dreel of Colby, Route 1, and Mrs. Wm. (Donna) Waldhart of Appleton. There are 36 grand children and five great grand children.
People attending the celebration were from Edgar, Milan, Stratford, Abbotsford, Colby, Wisconsin Rapids, Oconto Falls, Oneida, Milwaukee, Appleton, De Pere and Little Chute.

Approximately 300 relatives and friends greeted Mr. and Mrs. Archie Van Gorden at an open house honoring their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, July 14, at the Neillsville United Church of Christ. The event was planned by members of their family.
Archie (Red) Van Gorden and the former Hazel Fremstad were married July 10, 1924, at Pigeon Falls. The bride was a native of that community; the groom, who grew up in Alma Center, was born in Hixton.
Following their marriage, the couple lived in Alma Center before moving to Neillsville in 1929 when he purchased the former Fred Bruley Elevator Company, now operated under the title “H. H. Van Gorden and Sons.”
At one-time there were H. H. Van Gorden and Sons elevators in operation at Neillsville, Alma Center, Whitehall, and Black River Falls, with the “Sons” referring to Archie, Kenneth, and Bruce, and the H. H.,” to their father, Harry Humphrey.
Archie Van Gorden operated the mill in Neillsville by himself until 1940 when he entered military service with the local National Guard Company. Then, his brother Kenneth, joined him in the business here.
He served in Australia and New Guinea, was discharged in 1944 with the rank of captain, and returned to Neillsville to take an active part in the operation of the family business until his retirement in 1946. In 1947, his sons joined their uncle in operating the elevator.
In their retirement, the Van Gorden’s divide their time between homes in Jupiter, Fl., and Lake Arbutus. Both are members of the Neillsville Church of Christ.
They are parents of three children, Richard, and Heron (Pink) of Neillsville and Mrs. Robert (Cyrena) Dierauer of Minneapolis, Mn. There are 10 grandchildren.
Among relatives present for the anniversary observance were Mrs. Van Gorden’s brothers and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Fremstad and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fremstad of Pigeon Falls, Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Fremstad of Osseo, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Fremstad of Eau Claire and Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Fremstad of Minneapolis, Mn.; her aunt, Mrs. Jeannette Fossum of Osseo; her cousin and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Haugen, and cousins: Mrs. Clarence Bye and the Misses Gilma and Theola Waller, all of Osseo.
Relatives attending from the Van Gorden side of the family included: Mr. Van Gorden’s brother, Bruce, of Black River Falls; his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Van Gorden of Eau Claire; and cousins and their spouses: Mr. and Mrs. Bela Van Gorden of Onalaska, Mr. and Mrs. Schyler Van Gorden of Eau Claire and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Northrup of La Crosse.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van Sleet celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, May 3rd. There was an 8:30 morning Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Colby, a dinner at St. Mary’s gym at noon and a supper for 75 at the gym in the evening. A large wedding cake trimmed in yellow roses centered the table.
The couple received many gifts besides many gifts of money. There was an open house from 2 to 4 P.M. at the gym.
Mrs. Van Sleet, formerly May Allain, was born in Fond du Lac, 73 years ago last September 1st. Mr. Van Sleet, who was 75 February 1, was born near Curtiss.
The couple were married at St. Mary’s Church in Colby by the Rev. J. M. Schramm, May 6, 1908, shortly after the present church was built.
They have ten children, all married and present with their husbands and wives at the anniversary, Mrs. George (Aurelia) Blanchard, Colby; Elmo Van Sleet, Wausau; and Charles, Arthur, Joseph, Russell, and Orville, all of Milwaukee; Mrs. Edward (Marie) Allman, Colby; and Mrs. Russell (Bernice) Meyer, Colby, Wis.
There are also 35 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Three of the attendants at their wedding were present, Mrs. Frank Hanna, Minneapolis; and Cora and Charles Allain of Fond du Lac. The fourth, Mr. Louis Van Sleet, is deceased.
Other guests from away besides the children and their families were Mr. and Mrs. Art Foltz and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Olson, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. George Schrier, Wausau; Mrs. Frank Hanna, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Collins, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Nyler and June Hanna, Minneapolis.
Mr. and Mrs. Van Sleet lived in Milan the first 15 years of their married life, then moved to the village where they lived 27 years and after that moved to the present home about two miles north of the village.

Vandebergs in 35th Wedding Anniversary - Mr. and Mrs. Horace Vandeberg celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary Saturday evening.
They were surprised by relatives, who held a party in their honor.
Their daughter, Mrs. Oscar Egger, and her family of Fond du Lac, and their sons, Gail Vandeberg and family of Appleton and John Vandeberg and family of Beaver Dam, were present to help their parents celebrate.
Other out-of-town guests included Mrs. Julia Vandeberg, Forest Park, Ill., her son, Clifford, of Napavine, Wash.; and Mr. and Mrs. Horace Lawrence of Marshfield. Many relatives from Neillsville and vicinity also were present.

On Thursday, July 13, between 60 and 70 neighbors and friends from Neillsville and the town of York, assembled at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Vandeberg to celebrate with them the fortieth anniversary of their marriage. The only guest from a distance was Mrs. Wm. Fenhouse of Spencer. The day was beautiful and all were in good spirits, making it indeed a happy gathering. Many of them guests brought appropriate presents and other clubbed together to contribute toward a general gift to be selected by Mr. and Mrs. Vandeberg themselves.
A bountiful dinner was served, six tables being filled.
John Vandeberg and Lillie Lawrence were married at the M. E. parsonage in Neillsville July 13, 1882, Rev. J. E. Webster performing the marriage ceremony. They began housekeeping on a new place in the town of York, which by years of industry they developed into a splendid farm with good buildings and fine stock and machinery. They had not only the usual years of hard work and economy, but they had their full share of sickness and misfortunes, but they kept up good courage and faced the difficulties of life bravely.
To them were born five children; one son, Manly, died in 1904, at the age of 19 years; Alvin lived on the home farm, Horace on his farm near by; Ida, Mrs. E. Voight, lives also near the old home and Miss Ruth lived with her parents at the home in Neillsville. Although Mr. and Mrs. Vandeberg moved to the city last March and plan to take life a bit easier than in former years, the still keep up their interest in farm affairs. Their many friends hope to see them live many years in the enjoyment of a comfortable and happy life.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Vandeberg of the town of York celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Tuesday at their farm home in York, where 78 guests were gathered to commemorate the occasion. Rev. Fleming of the M. E. Church of Loyal performed the ceremony at 12:30, after which a bountiful dinner was served. A beautiful wedding cake was baked by the groom’s mother, Mrs. John Vandeberg, and served as the center-piece on the table, the dinner being served cafeteria style.
Alvin Vandeberg and Miss Julia Ziemba were married in Chicago in 1913, where Mr. Vandeberg worked as a street car conductor, Twenty-two years ago they returned to his boyhood community and took up farming and have since operated farms there and near Marshfield.
Four sons were born to this couple; John, who is married and works on the Lon Huckstead farm in the town of Granton; Chester, who completed his high school course in 1937; Clifford, a senior in Neillsville High School this year, and Howard, an eighth grader.
Among the guests from this community are: Mrs. John Vandeberg, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Keller and son, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Pease, Mr. and Mrs. John Vandeberg Jr. and Lon Huckstead.

45th Wedding Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Vanderhoof celebrated their 45th Wedding Anniversary at their home in spencer on Saturday, December 4th with a dinner for relatives and friends.
The centerpiece for the table was a large bouquet of flowers and a large wedding cake.
Mr. and Mrs. Vanderhoof resided in the Town of Sherman for 43 years. They purchased a home in Spencer two years ago where they moved and now reside. Their youngest daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bymers, now reisde on the home farm.
There are two daughters, Mrs. Ed. Voelker and Mrs. Paul Bymers, both who reside on farms near Spencer, and four grandchildren. One grandson, Carrol Voelker, who is in the Navy, resides at San Diego, Calif.

Silver Wedding Anniversary
Relatives bringing well filled baskets, gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Munson Vanderhoof Sunday, March 20th, to help them celebrate their Silver wedding which was on March 21, 1948.
The afternoon was spent visiting and playing cards and at five o’clock a cafeteria supper was served by the self invited guests.
A beautiful wedding cake, a gift of their daughter, Mrs. Russell Gehrke, decorated the table and they received cards and a gift of silver from those present.
Mr. and Mrs. Vanderhoof were married at the Veefkind Lutheran Church on March 21, 1923. They have lived in this vicinity all of their married life. The past two years they resided in the village.
They have five children, L[unreadable]ena, (Mrs Russell Gehrke), Albert, in the armed service, Janet, Muson [Munson?], Jr., and Robert all at home.
Those present Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mellenthin, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Gehrke, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Schroeder, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Schroeder and family, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Krahn and family, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Luepke and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Mellenthin and sons and Ward Vanderhoof.
The guests departed later that evening wishing Mr. and Mrs. Vanderhoof many happy returns of the day.

At high noon of Armistice Day, the relatives and friends of the Robert Vater family, gathered at the Dana Hall in Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), to partake of a splendid turkey dinner in honor of the golden wedding anniversary of the host and hostess. Mrs. Emma Glaeser of Youngstown, Ohio, who was Mrs. Vater’s bridesmaid at her wedding 50 years ago, was present and participated in the program by pinning the golden roses on Mr. and Mrs. Vater.
At the close of dinner, Rev. Harry Lee, Pastor of the Methodist Church, Withee, made a brief speech, which in part follows:
"Fifty years ago today an enthusiastic young man by the name of Robert W. Vater and a sweet faced girl by the name of Henrietta Schoensiegel, affectionate and attractive, hopeful, ambitious and filled with love for each other to the extent of being willing and ready to share cheerfully any hardships, took upon themselves the vows of matrimony and entered the path which led them onward and upward.
"Today they stand before us at the very peak of their happiness. No doubt the ways have been rough at times, the hardships heavy and the storms of worry difficult to endure. During a period of fifty years they have passed through financial quick sands but they have surmounted these difficulties with commendable ability. Their unfaltering courage has brought them through their latest tribulation in the loss of their home and the construction of a new home, so that this is a house-warming as well as a Golden Wedding celebration.
" I wish all those who scoff at marriage and who pretend to believe that marriage cannot be a happy state of existence could be here today to see their words and thoughts disproved and denied."

During the afternoon and evening open house was observed, when friends and neighbors came in to offer congratulations to the happy couple. Refreshments were served by the daughters of the family. Crowning the refreshment table was a three tiered cake, a portion of which was served to each guest.
Gifts given by members of the family, were an amethyst ring to Mrs. Vater, and an oak arm chair to Mr. Vater; a twenty dollar gold piece by many members of the club of which Mrs. Vater is a member; and a gold jewel box and plate by Miss Edna Greneisen, a niece of Mr. Vater.
The new home of Mr. and Mrs. Vater also added much to the comfort and charm of the occasion. Everything modern will add to the convenience of housekeeping, and to the ease and comfort of the years yet to come for this happy couple. Sons and daughters, friends and neighbors unite in wishing them many happy years ahead

25 Years Ago: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vater, both 94 years of age, will celebrate their 70th wedding aniversary on November 10 at an open house at the Havenet Nursing Home.

A quiet celebration was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vater Sunday in honor of their 65th wedding anniversary. They were married in Plymouth November 11, 1893, and moved into their present farm home in early 1900.
All of their children were with them for the celebration. They include three daughters: Mrs. Raymond (Alice) Jones of Randolph, Mrs. L. M. (Gladys) Woodburn of Elmhurst, and Mrs. Ruth Moody of Madison; and three sons, Arnold, Karl and Neil, all of this vicinity. Both Mr. and Mrs. Vater are 88 years old.

A pioneer Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) couple, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vater, on Tuesday observed their 65th wedding anniversary at their home, one mile south of Withee on Highway 73. Both of the newlyweds are enjoying especially good health at the age of 88 years. However, only the past 10 days has Mr. Vater been ailing somewhat with arthritis in his legs.
The couple was married Nov. 11, 1893 in a ceremony performed at Plymouth, Wis. They moved to Withee in 1901. The couple has six children: Mrs. Ralph Moody, Madison; Mrs. Raymond (Alice) Jones, Randolph; Mrs. Norviel (Gladys) Wood burn, Elmhurst, Ill.; and Arno, Carl and Neal, all of Withee, most of whom were here with their parents on Saturday.
One of the highlights of this occasion was being the recipients of a congratulatory letter from the president of the United States. It read, "Please accept my sincere congratulations on your 65th wedding anniversary with best wishes for many more happy companionship." Dwight Eisenhower.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vater, who live between Longwood and Withee, celebrated their 66th wedding November 11. The Vaters are one of Clark County’s oldest pioneer families and reside in a beautiful and quaint cottage on the west side of Highway 73.
Robert Vater was born October 25, 1870, and Mrs. Henrietta Vater, September 8, 1970, both at Plymouth. Both attended rural schools there and were married there November 11, 1893.
They came to Clark County in 1906, locating on the farm which has been their home for 53 years. Mr. Vater worked in the early years in the logging and lumbering industry and also operated a larger dairy farm.
They have six children, Arno, Mrs. Ruth Moody, Alice Jones, Gladys Woodburn, Carl and Neil.
The 66th anniversary was observed with relatives and neighbors joining in a quiet celebration. The couple has enjoyed good health for many years. Mr. Vater, in recent months, has found it necessary to slow down and confine himself to his home.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vater of Owen observed their 68th wedding anniversary November 11. For the last two years they have been making their home at the Havenet Nursing Home.
There were married November 11, 1893, at Plymouth, where they were born. They attended the World’s Fair in Chicago on their wedding trip.
They moved to the vicinity of Withee in 1901, first north of Withee and later 1 ½ miles south on 73, where they lived until they moved to Owen.
They raised six children there: three sons, Carl, Neil, and Arno, all of the area; and Mrs. Niles (Ruth) Moody of Madison, Mrs. L. Norviel Woodburn of Elmhurst, Ill., and Mrs. Raymond (Alice) Jones of Randolph. They now have eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1943. Eight years ago the immediate families came for a dinner and an open house was held at the Methodist Church in Withee in recognition of their 60th anniversary.
Both are 91 years old and in very good health considering their age.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vater, former Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) residents, are at the ripe young age of 91 celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary on Nov. 11th, 1961. They both are living with their daughter, Mrs. Ruth Moody, at Madison. Ruth reports that both are in fairly good health and her mother remarkably so, as she walks over to the store if she wishes to do some shipping, and is alert and interested in everything that goes on. She enjoys reading and weaving pot holders. Mr. Vater’s health is not quite so good, but he is up every day and enjoys going for rides and visiting his sons.

They have six children, Mrs. Ruth moody, Madison; Mrs. Raymond (Alice) Jones, Randolph; Mrs. Norvell (Gladys) Woodburn, Elmhurst, Ill.; and Arno, Carl and Neil, all of Withee. They also have eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Vater just celebrated their 92nd birthdays, one month apart. Last Sunday marked another observance for the couple when they noted their 69th wedding anniversary.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Vater were born in Plymouth, where they were married Nov. 11, 1893, moving to the Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) area in 1900. They have three sons and three daughters, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The anniversary was observed by the couple’s immediate family.

A couple, who both reached the age of 93 this fall and remember attending the great Columbian Exposition and World’s Fair in Chicago in 1893, attained their 7th year of wedded life on Nov. 11, 1963.
Mr. and Mrs. R.N. Vater were both born in Plymouth, Wis., he on Oct. 25, 1870, and she on Sept. 3, 1870.
They were married at Plymouth Nov. 11, 1893.
They lived on the old Vater farm near Plymouth for several years and in 1900 moved to Clark Couty, first making their home north of Withee on the land now owned by William Park. Later, after Mr. Vater had been engaged in Saweing lumber for several years, they purchased a farm 1 ½ miles south of withee on land now owned by their son, Carl Vater.
The farm of 160 acres has long been one of the show places in the area. It is situated across the road and just north of the now notorious Krueger farm.
Strong and active all of her life, Mrs. Vater loved to putter in her yard and raised flowers. She took an active part in the Methodist Church at Withee and was one of the charter members of the Women’s Society for Christian Service.
The Vaters were highly regarded and respected by their neighbors.
They were a hardworking and thrifty pioneer couple, raising their six children in Clark County. They are Paul, Arno and Neal, all of this area, and Gladys (Mrs. L. Norville Woodburn) of Elmhurst; Alcie (Mrs. Raymond Jones) of Randolph, and Ruth (Mrs. Niles Moody) of Madison. Living also are eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Their 50th anniversary was remembered with a large dinner party at Madsen’s Hall, where relatives feted the couple, afterwards an open house was attended by many friends at their home.
The 60th was a somewhat simpler affair. Dinner at Home of a son, Neal, and open house at the Methodist Church in Withee.
The 65th was somewhat of a replica of the 60th, but fewer of the older relatives from Plymouth, Milwaukee, and Sheboygan were able to attend.
Several years ago, due to the failing health of Mr. Vater, both of them moved to the Havenet Home. Mr. Vater, although somewhat feeble, still gets up and was able to sit in the living room and be greeted by friends who called for the open house Sunday, Nov. 10th.
Most of the relatives were here to be with them for this event.
Of sturdy German-American stock, a death has not yet occurred in their immediate family, although in the last few years husbands of both of the elder daughters have passed away.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Vater’s parents immigrated to America in 1848. Both fathers of the couple served in the War Between the States.

Mr. and Mrs. Chris Vates celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Oct. 22, 1921.
Mr. and Mrs. Vates were united in marriage at the Lutheran church at Danville, Ill. On Oct. 22, 1871. Shortly after their marriage they came to this vicinity where they have since resided.
Relatives from out of town to help them celebrate were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Huckstead and son Albert, George Huckstead and Mrs. Gus Huckstead, all of Danville, Ill.
A splendid time was enjoyed by all present and Mr. and Mrs. Vates were the recipients of many beautiful gifts.
Mrs. Vates accompanied the Hucksteads to Danville yesterday where she will visit for several weeks.
The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Vates join the Gleaner in extending congratulations and best wishes for many more years of happy wedded life.

Friends, neighbors and relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Vaughan Sunday to honor them in observance of their Golden Wedding anniversary. Open house was held from 2 to 4 Sunday afternoon.
Ralph Vaughan and Miss Margaret Darling were married June 28, 1905 at the farm home of her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Darling, who lived about 2 miles south west of Unity. Mr. Vaughan’s brother-in-law, the Rev. W. J. James, performed the ceremony.
In 1912 the Vaughan’s accompanied her parents, with whom they lived, to Ocean Springs, Miss., for a visit with relatives. They remained and made their home in Ocean Springs, where Mr. Vaughan was a contractor and builder of homes, roads and bridges.
After 17 years’ residence in Ocean Springs they returned to this area and purchased a farm near Unity, which was their home until 1948. Since that time they have resided in Spencer.
Mr. Vaughan is a member of the Odd Fellows at Unity. His wife is an active member of the Spencer Women’s Relief Corps.
Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Vaughan, an 1886 graduate of Unity High School, taught school for 15 years - 3 years in Marathon County rural schools, four years in Ashland, and in 1895 she started a six year teaching career in the lower grades in the Unity grade school. At one time, she recalls having as many as 100 pupils in her classes, some of whom were no more than four years old.
She concluded her chosen career by teaching the 7th and 8th grades one year each in Schofield and Marshfield.
In October Mrs. Vaughan, who is nearing 83, was honored at the reunion of graduates of the Unity High School and was presented with a gift.
Mrs. Vaughan’s corsage of yellow roses and the yellow carnation boutonniere of Mr. Vaughan were presented them by the Nacker’s of Abbotsford, Wis.
The honor couple also received numerous cards of congratulations and several lovely gifts from Spencer friends and neighbors, and quite a considerable gift of silver which Mr. and Mrs. Vaughan will distribute among the three churches of Spencer.
Refreshments were served by the Nackers.

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Venzke was celebrated Saturday, July 25 at a gathering of the children and grandchildren at the Clarence Venzke home at Milan. All of the children were present except Mrs. Phil Wire of Reseda, Calif.
To add to the festivities of the occasion Mrs. Venzke had a corsage of gold chrysanthemums and Mr. Venzke had a boutonniere.
The marriage of Mr. Venzke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Venzke Sr. of the town of Holton (Marathon Co., Wis.), and Ida Wienandt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wienandt, town of Johnson, took place July 301914, at the home of the groom's parents, with Rev. E. Buerger officiating.
Mr. and Mrs. Venzke farmed in the town of Holton for 42 years and in Dec. 1956, moved to Milan.

Mr. and Mrs. Emil Venzke celetrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, June 13, at their home in the town of Holton.
Mr. Venzke and the former Lydia Jurgermeyer were married June 9, 1915, at Bethlehem Lutheran church in Milan. They were the first couple to be married in the church and are still active members.
They operated a farm in the town of Johnson and in 1956 retired to the old home place of Mr. Venzke, in the town of Holton.
The Venzkes have 10 children, all of whom were present except George of Cedar Rapids, Ia. There are 44 grand children and four great grand children.

On Sunday, Oct. 9, 1966, some 150 friends and relatives came to help Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Verhulst celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. The open house was held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Greenwood, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Their children and families were hosts and hostesses for the occasion.
The serving table was centered with a 40th anniversary cake decorated in the ruby colors. Mrs. Verhulst wore a corsage of red roses and white carnations while he wore a boutonniere. The wedding attendants, Mrs. Celen (Harriet Verhulst) Gotter and Leonard Johnson, also wore flowers.
The honored couple were married on Dec. 9, 1926 by the Rev. Daniel Householder at the home of her parents. Mrs. Verhulst was the former Esther Johnson. Their first home was located on a farm 3 miles northeast of Greenwood. They lived there until 1954 when they moved into Greenwood.
From this union there were four children, including one daughter, Corrine of Santa Monica, Calif., and three sons, Lyle of Loyal; Kenneth of Greenwood, and Harold of Chamberlain, S.D. They have ten grandchildren.
Also present were all of the honored couple’s sisters and brothers. Mrs. Verhulst’s two sisters are Mrs. Lester Luther, Eau Claire and Mrs. Harold Haupt of Elkhorn. Mr. Verhulst has three sisters, Mrs. Wilfred Dugre, New Berlin; Mrs. Celen Gotter, Loyal, and Miss Ruth Verhulst, a Missionary in Malaysia, and one brother, Harvey of Sheboygan. Many of their nieces and nephews were present too.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Verhulst of Greenwood celebrated their 50th wedding at an open house Saturday, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood, from 2 to 5 p.m., and a reception held at 8 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Verhulst. Their children were hosts.
The anniversary cake was made by a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lyle Verhulst. Cutting the cake were the sisters of Mrs. Verhulst, Mrs. Joyce Luther of Eau Claire and Mrs. Grace Haupt of Elkhorn. The grandchildren were at the guest book and served the punch.
Preceding the reception at the church, a short service of thanksgiving was held in the church and conducted by the Rev. David Wenger, pastor. A grandson Thomas Verhulst accompanied in the singing of the hymns, and a son, Harold Verhulst, spoke briefly on behalf of the family.
An old-fashioned charivari was given by relatives and friends at the open house in the evening. The grandchildren performed a mock wedding for the couple. A dance with music provided by Donna Abel was the entertainment for the evening.
Mrs. Verhulst wore a corsage of yellow roses and her husband wore a carnation and rose boutonniere. All members of the immediate family wore corsages and boutonnieres as well as well as the attendants, Mrs. Celan (Harriet) Gotter of Loyal, a sister of Mr. Verhulst and Leonard Johnson of Greenwood, an uncle of Mrs. Verhulst. A floral arrangement of yellow carnations and daisies given by the grandchildren and great-grandchildren was used as the centerpiece at the head table.
Clarence Verhulst and Esther Johnson were married December 9, 1926, by the Rev. D.S. Householder, pastor of the Grace Methodist Church, at the house of the bride’s parents. After their marriage they farmed in the Town of Warner from 1928 to 1955. He worked at the Midland Cooperative from 1955-1965. Since 1965 he had part time work with the Telephone Company and cemetery custodian. He retired in 1965.
Clarence Verhulst, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Verhulst, was born October 7, 1901, in Sheboygan. He received his education in the Longwood Public schools.
Mrs. Verhulst, the former Esther Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter M. Johnson, was born June 19, 1903, in the Town of Eaton. She received her education in the Town of Beaver schools. Mr. and Mrs. Verhulst are both in good health. His hobbies are fishing and gardening. His wife enjoys sewing, quilting and crochet work.
He was supervisor of the Town of Warner for two years; member of the board of Christopherson School for 12 years; on the church council and head usher at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. They are members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and participate in the parish organizations.
They are the parents of four children. They have 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The children are Lyle Verhulst of Loyal; Kenneth Verhulst of Marshfield; the Rev. Harold Verhulst of Milbank, S.D.; and Miss Corrine Verhulst of Los Angeles, Ca., who, with their families, were all present for the occasion.

An open house honoring the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Verhulst was held Sunday, July 14, at their home on Rt. 1 Loyal.
The afternoon was spent in visiting and the evening was spent in square dancing, with Fred Justman as caller. A mock wedding was put on by members of the square dance club.

Six of their seven children and their families, were present when Mr. and Mrs. John Verschay, Sr., celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary here Monday evening. The honored couple long-time residents of the area, were presented with gifts and congratulatory messages. They received good wishes in a telephone call from their daughter, Mrs. Henry (Jean) Isaacson of Chicago, who could not attend.
Children and grandchildren present were four daughters, Mrs. Paul (Anne) Meyers and husband of Minocqua; Mrs. Val (Marie) Jeras and Mrs. Cecil (Christine) Anderson and children of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Erwin (Catherine) Grap, her husband and their daughter, Ana, of Greenwood; and two sons, John, Jr., and his wife of Willard; and Joseph and his wife and children, Richard, Mary Jo, Billy, and Jean Marie, all of Greenwood. The only grandchildren not present were the Meyers’ daughter, Mrs. William (Nancy) Kolmodin and her daughter, Audrey, of Chicago, and Henry Isaacson of Chicago.
Other guests were their niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. John Kramerich and son, Tom, of Detroit, Mich.
The couple’s grandson, Kenneth Anderson, entertained with accordion selections.
The occasion was also the 30th wedding anniversary of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Val Jeras.
John Verschay and Anna Dragosh were married in St. Joseph’s Church in Calumet, Mich., August 23, 1905. They lived there nine years before moving in 1914 onto a farm near Willard. They retired 11 years ago, when their son, John, took over the farm. Since then they have lived in Greenwood.

Relatives and friends helped Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Verschay celebrate their 25th Wedding Anniversary Tuesday evening, August 3. The former Jo Laken and Joseph Verschay were married on August 3, 1948 at the Holy Family Church at Willard. Two of the couple who were attendants were present, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Dergance of Hillside, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. John Verschay of Neillsville. Mr. George Laken of Lyons, Ill. and Mrs. Dan Connell of Streator, Ill., were unable to be present.

LYNN, Clark Co., Wis. - Mr. and Mrs. Albert Viergutz, pioneer residents of this community, are guests of honor today at a golden wedding celebration at their farm home one half mile south of Lynn Station. Six of their nine living children together with their families, planned to be present, as well as other relatives, bringing the total number of guests to nearly 50.
Mr. Viergutz was born Sept. 15, 1855, in Garchlin, Germany, and was married May 9, 1879, at Friedrichsberg, Germany, to Miss Albertina Handt, who was born Nov. 9, 1857 in Doeringshagen. In 1881 they came to Clark County and lived for several years on a farm in the town of Grant, after which they located on their present farm, where they lived in a log house for many years. In 1922 they had their present modern farm home built, which is one of the finest in the community. The 80-acre farm, which was practically all forest land when Mr. Viergutz acquired ownership, is now one of the outstanding dairy farms, with 70 acres under cultivation.
Of the twelve children born to them, two died in infancy and one daughter, Anna, died at the age of 16 while attending school at Delavan. The others are Herman of Lampman, Canada; Rudolph of Estevan, Canada; Reinhold of Marshfield, Route 3; Mrs. William Singer (Amanda), town of Fremont, Clark Co.; Mrs. Hattie Riess, Rochester, Minn.; Arthur, at home; Mrs. Clark Brooks (Elda), town of Lynn; Mrs. Kenneth Langrehr (Rose) Marshfield; Mrs. Roland Washburn (Irene), Milwaukee. The two oldest sons had planned to be present, but sent word from North Dakota that they had motor trouble and could not continue, and the youngest daughter also sent word that she was unable to come.
Besides the children and their families, the following relatives were expected to be present: Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Goldamer and family, Abbotsford; Mr. and Mrs. C.F. Goldamer and family, Nasonville; Mr. and Mrs. Will Goldamer and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Handt, town of Grant, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schlinsog, town of York. Mr. Viergutz has two sisters and two brothers in Germany, but Mrs. Viergutz is the last of her family.
A beautiful wedding cake was prepared by the daughters, and the children collectively presented their parents with a basket of yellow roses and (the reset of my copy was cut off)

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Vine of Neillsville observed their Golden wedding anniversary last Sunday at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Vine, in Granton. A picnic supper was served for approximately 120 guests. Friends and relatives were from Marshfield, Waukesha, Milwaukee, Wisconsin Rapids, Elgin, Ill., Duluth, Minn., Granton and Neillsville.
The Vines were married June 30, 1920, at the home of Mrs. Vine’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Roder, in Neillsville. The Rev. Louie B. Coleman performed the ceremony and the attendants were William Vine and Miss Ruby Stearns.
They farmed in the Town of Grant all of their lives and moved to Neillsville in August of 1968. They now live at 200 West First Street. They have one son, Gordon, who lives in the Town of Grant, and five grandchildren.
Mr. Vine is a veteran of World War I and was wounded while fighting and then was taken to Italy. He is a member of the Haugen-Richmond Post, American Legion No. 73.
Mrs. Vine is a member of the Legion Auxiliary, and the sewing circle of the United Church of Christ. She also has been a member of the Pleasant Ridge Homemakers for the last 30 years. Her hobbies are gardening and sewing.

Last Wednesday, Mr. and Mrs. F.J. Vine celebrated their golden wedding and the event was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Huckstead and was attended by a large number of their old friends and acquaintances. They were united in marriage at Buffalo, N.Y., and were the parents of seven children. Their married life has been a particularly happy one and has been marked with a degree of prosperity and pleasure which has been memorable both to them and to those with whom they came in contact. The children who arranged the celebration of the wedding and who helped to make it such a success are Mrs. Major of Michigan, Mrs. Henry Carter and Mrs. Arlo Huckstead of the Ridge, Arthur Vine of Crandon and Fred, George and Frank of the town of Grant.

Mr. and Mrs. Palmer Vinger of this city (Greenwood, Clark Co., Wis.), celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday, December 8th, 1957 by receiving guests at open house from 2:00 to 4:00 and from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at their home. The couple received bouquets of flowers, gifts and many congratulatory messages.
A three-tier wedding cake centered the refreshment table, from which food was served by Mrs. Otto Voie and Mrs. Thomas Erickson.
Mr. Vinger, who has been in the insurance, real estate and loan business for 39 years and the former Lydia Olson, were married December 5, 1917 at Blanchardville. They also lived at Unity and on a farm four miles north of Greenwood, and moved to the city in 1926.
The couple has two daughters, Mrs. William (Vivian) Kavanaugh and Mrs. Richard (Shirley) Thompson, both of Greenwood, who were present at the celebration with their husbands and children. The four grandchildren of the Vingers are Kay and James Kavanaugh and Patti Jo and Nan Jean Thompson.

The First Evangelical and Reformed church of Colby was the scene last Sunday morning for the reconsecration service for the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. August Voelker. Mrs. Margaret W. Puhlmann, representing the congregation at large, and N. L. Dessloch, president of the congregation, escorted Mr. and Mrs. Voelker to church after where Pastor Franz Paul Puhlmann conducted a brief, but, nevertheless, a soul inspiring reconstruction service. Referring to their 50 years of beautiful wedded life, Rev. Puhlmann said that Mr. and Mrs. Voelker have glorified God and that they are a living witness to the sacredness and beauty of a true wedded life. Rev. Puhlmann, furthermore said that the testimony given by Mr. and Mrs. Voelker should serve the greater Colby community as an inspiration and Christian example.
During the reconstruction service, Mrs. Voelker was decorated with a beautiful corsage of deep red carnations and gold ribbon while Mr. Voelker received a boutonniere consisting of a deep red carnation. At the close of the worship service, the bride and groom of 50 years ago took their stations in the vestibule of the church where they received the congratulations of their many friends and fellow church members.
Mr. Voelker was born in Manitowoc county on March 15, 1879, and Mrs. Voelker was born in Sheboygan county on July 1, 1883. They were married on April 8, 1901, in Manitowoc county and came to Colby in 1909 and operated a farm in the town of Colby until 1926 when they moved to the city of Colby, Wis.
They have five children - Elmer, on a farm in the town of Colby; Oscar, on a farm near Cherokee; Marvin, a cheesemaker at Pittsville; Roland, a blacksmith at Abbotsford; Mrs. Chas. (Norma) Flick, on a farm in the town of Colby, Wis.

The Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration for Mr. and Mrs. Edwin J. Voelker of 1111 Fillmore Street, Marshfield, Wisconsin, was held at the Spencer Municipal Hall on Saturday, August 31, 1974. There was a special church service for the honored couple at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 12:30 p.m., with the Rev. E. Messerschmidt officiating, followed by a brunch at the Parish Hall for the immediate family. During the church service "The Lord's Prayer" was sung by Debbie Nelson, a granddaughter, and Bert Webster.
Awaiting for them when they left the Parish Hall, were Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Nelson of Spencer with their 1927 Ford car, taking the bridal couple to the hall in Spencer, where an open house and dinner were held from 2:00 to 4:30. A dance was held from 8:00 until midnight that evening.
Edwin J. Voelker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Voelker, was born at Coleman, Wisconsin on September 13, 1900. At an early age the family moved to the Chili (Clark Co.), Wisconsin area.
Mrs. Voelker, the former Alvera Vanderhoof, was born December 21, 1904 at Spencer, Wisconsin.
The couple were married by the Rev. Eske at Salem Lutheran Church at Veefkind (Clark Co.), Wisconsin on September 10, 1924. Both are members of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Marshfield.
For 29 years after their marriage, they farmed in the Spencer vicinity, moving to Marshfield in 1953. Mr. Voelker worked for the Parkin Dairy and Modern Sleep Products, retiring in 1964. They both keep busy recovering furniture and Mrs. Voelker sews, crotchets and enjoys her flowers. Both are in good health.
The couple have three children, a son, Carrol, and two daughters, Mrs. Russ (Barbara) Nelson of Cedarburg, and Mrs. Jerome (Iris) Bauer of Spencer. They have nince grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Among the guests attending were four of their original attendants, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Voelker of Marshfield, Mrs. Laura Wry of Spencer, and Mrs. Virginia McNaul of Chili.

Sixty-seven guests were served a 5 o’clock anniversary dinner Saturday evening at St. John’s Lutheran Church parlors, north of Spencer, in honor of Mr. and Mrs. John Voelker, Spencer, who were celebrating their golden wedding. Following the dinner an 8 o’clock reception was held at the Spencer Municipal Hall.
The Voelkers, who wore white and gold carnation corsage and boutonniere, were married March 29, 1911, in St. John’s Lutheran Church, North Spencer, by the Rev. Karl Schmidt.
Mr. Voelker was born Aug. 24, 1888, in the town of Unity, Clark County, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. August Voelker. He attended Willow Brook School on route 1, Spencer, and resided on his father’s farm before his marriage.
His wife, the former Dora Luepke, was born Aug. 26, 1889, in the town of Unity, Clark County, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl Luepke. She received her schooling the same place her husband did.
After their marriage they lived for two years in March Rapids, then moved to his father’s farm, residing there for 32 years. The next six years were spent in Marshfield. In 1950 the Voelkers retired, and since then made Spencer their home.
Mr. Voelker was deacon of his church for 18 years, and was secretary of the Ed Huber cheese factory, also for 18 years. His health is good and has fishing for a hobby.
Also enjoying good health is his wife, who enjoys crocheting and quilting. She also is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and has been a member of its Ladies Aid Society for 30 years.
The Voelkers are the parents of a son, Maynard Voelker, Milwaukee, and four daughters, Miss Lorraine Voelker, at home; Mrs. Vern (Lillian) Diethman, Spencer; and Mrs. Bartlett (Vila) Olson and Mrs. Bruce (Sylvia) Fieber, both of Milwaukee. Two children are dead. Alviera, who died in 1917, and Lester, whose death occurred in 1925.
There are 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
All the original attendants at the 1911 wedding were here for Saturday’s celebration. They include Fred Luepke, Abbotsford, brother of Mrs. Voelker; Mrs. Adele Neugent, sister of Mr. Voelker, who came from California; Charles Voelker, Weyauwega, brother of Mr. Voelker; and Mrs. Ella Cramer, sister of Mrs. Voelker.

Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Voelker were married on November 30, 1926 at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Voelker, Colby.
The former Harriet Fischer was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fisher, Black River Falls.
Attendants were his brother, Barney, Abbotsford, and Frances Fisher, deceased.
The couple has three children. They are Bonnie (Mars Max Ramker), Virginia (Mrs. Leo Stecker), Stanley, and Bill, Stratford. They have 21 living grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. All were present.

Golden Wedding
Saturday, November 19th will be the Golden Wedding celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Voelker, who were married 50 years ago in the Spencer Lutheran Church by the Rev. A. Imm. Their attendants were a brother and sister of the brides’s, Frank and Dora Bruesewitz. The latter, as Mrs. Herman Schwantes, passed away a few years ago.
They started housekeeping on their farm east of Spencer where their children were all born and until about ten years ago when they moved to Spencer, where they have since resided.
They are not holding “open house” due to Mrs. Voelker’s ill health, altho around 60 relatives with a few close friends and neighbors will attend.
Seven of their nine children, two having passed away, with their children and grandchildren are expected. Dinner will be served at 4:30 P. M. in the dining room of the church after which a reception will be held at the home afternoon and evening with a late supper following.
The Record joins their many local friends in extending congratulations and best wishes for many more years of happy wedded life together.

Mr. and Mrs. Roland Voelker were honor guests at a surprise party Sunday evening, Aug. 11, in celebration of their silver wedding anniversary.
Square dance groups from Marshfield, Neillsville, Curtiss, Owen and Abbotsford spent the evening square dancing at the Curtiss hall. Their son, John, of Winona, Minn., was here for the celebration.
Roland Voelker and Marchia Mathews were married at Abbotsford Aug. 10, 1932, with the Rev. L. C. Smith, of the Presbyterian church, officiating. They have made their home in this vicinity since their marriage. Mr. Voelker is proprietor of Voelker’s Welding and Blacksmith Shop.
The Voelkers have three children, John, Alice, and Richard.

Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Voge of Abbotsford (Clark Co., Wis.) celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 8, 1971 in the Abbotsford City Hall. The couple was married March 11, 1921, in Michigan by the Rev. W.J. Magenoau.
Attendants at the wedding in 1921 , who were present at the open house, were Mrs. Mildred MacFarlane of Bessemer, Michigan, and John Breauer of Ironwood, Michigan.
Mr. Voge was born in 1891 in Lomira, Wisconsin. He was educated in the Colby schools and lived in Colby until his marriage. He served in the U..S. Army for two years and is a member of the Abbotsford VFW and Christ Lutheran Church. Mr. Voge remains in fair health and enjoys doing carpenter work. He retired from farming in 1959.
Mrs. Voge, the former Grace Miller, was born in 1903 in the town of Lake Butternut. She received her education in a little country school in the town of Lake Butternut. She is a member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Laides' Aid of that church. She is in fair health and enjoys gardening.
Mr. and Mrs. Voge are the parents of four children: Mrs. Vincent (Irene) Frane, Owen; Mrs. Robert (Marion) Wibben, Colby; Edward, Owen; and Donald, Abbotsford. They have 34 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Voie of Greenwood celebrated their golden wedding anniversary October 17 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood. Festivities began at 1:30 p.m. with a program.
Participating were their grandchildren. Larry Steuber was master of ceremonies, Mary Voie sang two solos, Margie Dyre read a poem, a three sister trio; Mrs. Ralph Mastin, Karen and Carol Steuber; accompanist was Margie Dyre. The Rev. and Mrs. Arvid Myhrwold sang a duet; the pastor gave a talk, sang a Norwegian song and read the history of the honored couple. Mr. and Mrs. Voie wee ushered in by grandsons Arlen Steuber and Ralph Mastin. The wedding march was played by Mrs. Don Warner.
Mrs. Voie wore an orchid corsage and her husband a carnation boutonniere; Vases of gold ‘mums adorned the altar.
A reception was held at 3:30 p.m. in the church parlors, where dinner was served at 4 p.m. to 200 guests. A three-tiered wedding cake served as the centerpiece. It was cut by Mrs. Clarence Verhulst and Miss Nelda Windom; Mrs. Joseph Lamonica and Mrs. Robert Baird poured; the six granddaughters served as waitresses. Mrs. Harry Gordee was in charge of the guest book. Mrs. Voie gave the welcome.

Mr. and Mrs. Voie were married October 22, 1914, by the Rev. C. S. B. Hoel in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Iola. Attendants were Mr. Lydia Syvertson of Milwaukee and William Voie of Kaukauna, who were not able to attend, and the late Milton Syvertson and Mrs. Peter Larson.
Mr. and Mrs. Voie were both born and received their education in Scandinavia. He was born February 21 to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Voie. His hobby is horses. Mrs. Voie, the former Glenora Syvertson, was born October 17, 1895. She enjoys knitting. Mr. and Mrs. Voie are in good health, and are members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the parish organizations.
After their marriage they lived in Barron for two years; and then farmed in the Iola area until they moved to Greenwood in 1930, where they settled on a farm. Retiring from farming in 1940, they moved to the city of Greenwood. Since that time Mr. Voie has been self-employed as a painter and at dehorning cattle. They were presented with many gifts and congratulatory messages.

Otto Voie was born in Scandinavia February 21, 1890. His wife, the former Glenora Syvertson, was born in Scandinavia October 17, 1895. They were married October 22, 1914, in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Iola.
Mr. and Mrs. Voie lived in Barron for two years and then farmed in the Iola area until they moved to Greenwood in 1930 and settled on a farm here. Retiring from farming in 1940, they moved into the city of Greenwood. They are members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the parish organizations.

More than 200 guests of family and friends gathered for a special program and service at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood for Mr. and Mrs. Otto Voie Saturday afternoon.
The Rev. David Wenger was in charge of the program, which included congregational singing. Granddaughters, Mrs. Dick Olson of Glenwood City, and Ms. Dave McFarland of Greenwood, played a piano duet. Mrs. Ed Wegret of Fond du Lac sang two solos. She was accompanied on guitar by great-granddaughter, Roxie Grams of Mukwonago. Another great-granddaughter, Kim Walker of Fall Creek, played a piano solo. Mrs. Dick Olson gave an original poem.
A former pastor of Our Savior’s Church, The Rev. Arvid Myhrwold, and his wife, of Downsville sang a duet. He also sang a favorite hymn in Norwegian.
After the church service which followed the program, a reception was held in the church hall. Two grandsons, Duane Walker of Fall Creek, and Joseph LaMonica of Rolling Meadows, Il. Took care of the ushering duties.
The church had been decorated in white and yellow mums, which also were on the tables at the supper along with yellow candles.
Bot Otto Voie and the former Glenora Syvertson were born at Scandanavia; he on February 21, 1890, and she on October 17, 1895. Rev. C.S.B. Hoel in Zion Lutheran Church in Iola married them, on October 22, 1914.
Their “honeymoon” was taken by moving to Barron County, where they farmed for three years. Then thy moved back to the Scandanavia area, farming until 1930, when they came to the Greenwood area. In 1943, they moved into their present home at 107 Crocker, Greenwood.
Mrs. Voie had served on the school board art Scandanavia. Following an unusual trade for 60 years, Mr. Voie dehorned as many as 5,000 head of cattle in a year. He had to travel around, sometimes for days at a time.
Mrs. Voie has been active in church. She sang in choir for 30 years, and also taught Sunday school. Now she joins in the sewing days at church.
In addition to raising a family, she did wallpapering. For years she knit until her eyesight made it less enjoyable; but she des keep up her reading.
All of their children attended the celebration. They are: Emory Voie of Fond du Lac; Mrs. Harold (June) Dunn, Eau Claire; Mrs. Godfrey (Olive) Dyre, Greenwood; and Mrs. Charles (Vivian) Stuber, Mondovi.
Only one of 19 grandchildren, and one of 22 great-grandchildren were able to attend. They were Mrs. Donald Sympanski and daughter of Alaska.
Greetings from three former pastors were received.
Mrs. Voie’s sisters: Mrs. Selma Buck, and her daughter, Mrs. Arden Malery and daughter of Kennedy, Mn., and Mrs. Leon Turner and husband of Clintonville also attended. His brother was unable to attend.

Open House was held Sunday afternoon in the York town hall honoring Mr. and Mrs. Ed Voight on their golden wedding anniversary. The anniversary will occur October 21, but due to the fact that some of the children were not able to attend at that time, the observation was advanced. Two hundred guests attended the open house.
Ed Voight was born near Waupun, coming to Clark County in his early boyhood. Mrs. Voight, the former Ida Vandeberg was born in the Town of York, where she has resided her entire lifetime.
The So and Sew Homemaker club served the wedding dinner, planned by Mrs. Eugene Haines, at the Voight home which was attended by immediate members of their family. Twenty-four guests, including the Voight’s children and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Maegdefessel and Lee Keller, attended the 7 p.m. supper at a Neillsville night club.

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Voight of the town of York was celebrated Sunday, August 23.
They attended church in the morning and a dinner was served at their home to the immediate family: Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Voight, Wayne Voight of San Diego, California; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Voigt of Round Lake Beach, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Gene Haines and family of Centerville, South Dakota; and Mr. and Mrs. George Wietzel of Downey, California and Lyle Voight.
A reception was held in the York town hall from 2-5 which was in charge of the Sew & So Homemakers Club of which Mrs. Voight is a member. The tables were covered with white paper tablecloths and gold colored streamers.
Numerous bouquets of flowers decorated the hall. Mrs. Ray Mortimer and Mrs. Louie Gunia had charge of the wedding cake.
The honored couple received many lovely gifts as well as money.
Mrs. Voight wore a corsage of small mums and Mr. Voight had a mum for his boutoniere. The couple were married at Neillsville by th Methidist minister Rev. Penny.
They were both in the town of York and attended school there. They both are members of the community Club. Mrs. Voight is a member of the York Center Methodist Church and the Women’s Society of Christian Service of that church and the Sew and So Homemakers Club.
They are the parents of three sons, Mervin of San Diego, Californis; Harvey of Round Lake Beach, Illinois; Lyle at home and a daughter, June of Centerville, South Dakota.

The home of Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Voight was the scene of a family reunion on April 26, the occasion being their golden wedding anniversary. To many of us it was a surprise to learn that they had been married 50 years. Mr. Voight who is 74 years old was born at Woodland, Wis., March 26, 1857. Mrs. Voight is 67 years old, having been born at Kekoskee, Jan. 12, 1864. Her maiden name being Mary DeLoye.
Their marriage took place at Kekoskee, Dodge Co., April 26, 1891, Rev. Wm. Trevor officiating.
Here they lived for a number of years later living in Oshkosh, where Mr. Voight was in business. They came to Loyal 18 years ago where they owned and operated Hotel Central for a number of years.
As the guests arrived and were greeted by the honored couple, we felt it was a rare privilege to be present at this, their golden day. The decorations were beautiful, the color scheme of gold and white being carried out. The center piece on the dining room table was a lovely bouquet of yellow roses, a gift of the grandchildren. A large wedding cake in white and yellow and bearing the dates 1881 and 1931 occupied a prominent place. After a bountiful dinner which was so nicely served and to which every one did justice. Mrs. Voight opened the gifts and such beautiful ones they were. There several several five dollar gold pieces and a number of other gifts in gold and silver, also a lovely bouquet of yellow and orchid flowers from relatives in Long Beach, Calif.
The afternoon was spent in a social time and singing.
Mr. and Mrs. Voight have five children and 13 grandchildren. One son Joseph died two years ago.
The children are Julia Voight, Plattville, Wis. Agnes—Mrs. Archie Leemon, Waupun, Harvey, South bend, Ind., Halbert and Percy, Loyal.
The following were present: Halbert and family, Percy and family, Mr. and Mrs. Leemon and daughters, Waupun, Mr. and Mrs. A. Zuehlke, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Zuehlke and Mr. and Mrs. A. Zuehlke all of Oshkosh, Mrs. Hattie Richardson was present as a honored guest as her friendship with Mrs., Voight dates back to their girlhood in Dodge County. Other guests present were Dr. Nelson and son, Mr. and Mrs. J. Wedl, also Master Jack Firnstahl and sister of Colby.
Since Mr. and Mrs. Voight have lived in our midst, they have had the love and esteem of a large circle of friends, who join with the guests on this happy occasion in wishing that Gods richest blessings be with them in their declining years and May they live to enjoy many other anniversaries. All present felt that the occasion was a time of pleasant memories and a time long to be remembered.

St. Balthasar's Catholic Church, Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.) was the scene of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Percy F. Voight on June 28, 1920. Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Voight attended mass at the same location, only this time, fifty golden years later, it is St. Anthony's Catholic Church, and their children and their families were with them.
Before her marriage, the former Eleanor (Nora) Leabel was employed at the J.W. Wiric Store in the village. She had lived in Loyal all her life.
Coming to Loyal from Oshkosh in 1914, Mr. Voight was employed in the Voight Hotel for three years, and then at the Christenson Garage. During World War I he was in the service of his country, spending part of the time overseas. He was discharged with the rank of corporal.
On Feb. 14, 1921, he was appointed rural mail carrier on Rt. 1, Loyal. Those were the days of horse-power in winger and ins summer he had a Model-T. At one time he delivered mail with a snowmobile, but that was a distant relative of the current snowmobiles. In 1957 he retired with a total of thirty-seven years as a mail carrier.
During this time he had been active in the Wisconsin Rural Letter Carriers Association and had been the president for two years. He was a charter member of the Loyal Volunteer Fire Department and served as the secretary-treasurer for twelve years. He is the only honorary member who was a charter member.
Mrs. Voight is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and of the Altar Society of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
After church, they attended a dinner with their children and families at the Star Lodge Motel. The children are Percy A. Voight Jr., Madison; Mrs. Sherrin (Leabel( Mack, Loyal; and Joe and Jon Voight, both of Wausau. Another daughter, Mrs. Frank (Noreen) Denk(?), is deceased.
Also joining them Sunday were his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Voight, Zephyr Hills, Fla.; Mrs. Hal Voight, and the very Rev. Norbert E. King, both of Loyal.
Both the Voights enjoy relatively good health. Mr. Voight is active in the preparation for the centennial of the platting of the original village of Loyal to be celebrated in August.

Mr. and Mrs. Alan Voigt, 800 East Second St., Neillsville, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Sunday, June 6.
A buffet supper and dance was held at the Clark County Fairgrounds on Saturday evening. The couple was surprised by their Neillsville friends with an old fashioned charivari including a wagon ride around the streets of the community.
Alan and Janice were married June 8, 1957, by the Rev. Schewe at the Granton Zion Lutheran Church. They have lived in the Neillsville area all of their married years.
They are the parents of a son, Tim Voigt, Neillsville, and a daughter, Tamela Shubert, Birmingham, Alabama.
Parents of the honored couple are Mr. and Mrs. James West of Neillsville and the late Mr. and Mrs. Gust Voigt of Loyal.
The attendants present for the anniversary were Kathy Haase of Neenah, Carol Moen of Nekoosa, Mrs. Lester Goke of Lansing, Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. James Voigt of Marshfield and Raymond Oestreich of Loyal. Those not present were Kirk Klemme of Michigan, Bonnie (Hughes) Wagner of Washington, Bettie (Hughes) Scheffer, Canada and Karen (Fox) Stanton of Texas.

Forty-five relatives sat down at a double golden wedding anniversary dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Oestreich and Mr. and Mrs. Gust Voigt, both of the Town of Sherman, Sunday evening in Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. From 150 to 200 friends gathered at an open house later at the Ray Oestreich home.
Their double wedding ceremony was performed September 30, 1911, in Loyal. The two couples were neighbors all of their wedded life in the Town of Sherman. Mr. Oestreich has farmed for the last 50 years; and Mr. Voigt in addition to farming was an officer of the Clark County R. E. A. and was a cheesemaker for many years.
The celebration was planned by the children, all of whom were present. It was held 13 days ahead of the actual wedding date in order to accommodate relatives.
Children attending with their families included: Alan Voight of Loyal, and Mrs. Sojhia (Voigt) Klemme, wife of Dr. O. R. Klemme of Stratford; Ray and Elmer Oestreich of Loyal, and Mrs. Herman (Mildred Oestreich) Stange of Appleton.
Neighbors (now) and neighbors of former years and other friends gathered for the double celebration of these two pioneer families of he Town of Sherman.

Mr. and Mrs. Alan Voigt and family of Neillsville, Dr. and Mrs. O. R. Klemme and family of Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. Gust Voigt of Loyal gathered at the home of James Voigt, Saturday evening to celebrate the 51st wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Gust Voigt.
Gust Voigt and Elizabeth Lucht were married in Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal September 28, 1911, with Rev. E. Kemena officiating. Following their marriage, the Voigts lived in Spokeville five year, in the village of Loyal 11 years and since that time in the Town of Sherman.
Mr. Voigt was born in Calumet County, January 31, 1884. Following his early education, he became a cheesemaker. He has been active in community and township public affairs and served on the Taft district school board 10 years.
Mrs. Voigt was born in Marathon County, March 1, 1890.
They have three children: Alan of Neillsville; James of the Town of Sherman; and Mrs. Sophia Klemme of Stratford. They also have seven grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Voightlander of the town of Hoard (Clark Co., Wis.) were surprised Monday evening, March 1, 1941, when relatives and friends gathered at their home to observe their 50th wedding anniversary.
A seven o’clock dinner was served, after which Rev. P. Franzmeier gave a talk choosing as his subject, He Leadeth Me. Several songs were sung with Mrs. Franzmeier at the organ.
Mr. and Mrs. Voightlander have resided on their present farm in the town of Hoard all their wedded life. They had five children, Henry of the town of Colby, Mrs. Louise Awe of the town of Green Grove, Elmer, Alma and Lillian at home.
Those present were their children and families, Rev. and Mrs. P.H. Franzmeier and son of Greenwood, and Miss Helen Ingersoll of Abbotsford, Wisconsin.
The couple were the recipients of a beautiful Jonquil plant and many other gifts. The day will be a lasting memory in the lives of the honored couple.

A surprise anniversary party was held Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Vollrath in Greenwood, in honor of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Vollrath. The honored couple was married October 11, 1928, in Plymouth. They have farmed seven miles northwest of Greenwood, where Mr. Vollrath was born.
Those present included the Vollrath’s two children and eight grandchildren. Ernest and Adeline Vollrath, Town of Mead, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in an August 13 celebration held at the American Legion Hall, in Loyal.
The Vollraths were married October 11, 1928, in Plymouth and from that marriage came four children, Elveira Vollrath Rogers, of Red Granite, Kenneth of Greenwood, and Serold and William Jr. both deceased. The couple also have eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Approximately 500 attended the celebration which was highlighted with congratulatory letters from President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter, Acting Governor Martin Schreiber and U.S. Senator William Proxmire.
Music was furnished by the Mike Briski orchestra and the anniversary dinner began with a German table prayer. A special cake, prepared by their daughter, highlighted the head table as gold belled flower arrangements graced the tables.
Ernest Vollrath was born in 1896 to William and Anna Vollrath in the home, he and his wife now reside. He received his education in the Town of Warner’s Benjamin School and later worked for 29 years as a DeKalb corn salesman. He also served as secretary for the West Side Telephone Co. and the Clark County Farm Bureau. He also served as supervisor and chairman for the Town of Mead for a number of years and also a director and secretary for the Lynn Mutual Insurance Company.
Adeline Vollrath was born in 1907 to George and Ida Logeman in Plymouth. She graduated from Plymouth High School and Sheboygan Business College. She worked at Elkhart lake and Crystal Lake resorts, a drug store in Plymouth and in Sheboygan steel plants. She is presently a housewife.
Ernest’s hobbies include wood craft, gardening, hunting and fishing while Adeline enjoys crocheting.
Attending the event was Ella Logeman, Omro, a sister of Adeline who was in the original wedding party. Also attending were friends and relatives from many communities in Clark County as well as guests from California, Washington, Florida, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Minnesota.

Two of their three sons and their families were present when Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vollrath celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vollrath of Greenwood were honored with an open house Saturday evening at the Legion Hall in Greenwood. Golden wedding bells were suspended from above and more bells, along with candles and flowers, graced the tables. The tiered wedding cake was decorated in gold and white. More than 125 guests greeted the Vollraths on the occasion of their golden wedding.
Among the guests were: Mrs. John Seibold, the former Irma Vollrath, and Alvin Schwarze, both of Greenwood, who had been the attendants at the wedding March 25, 1925. The marriage ceremony took place at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Yaniga, three miles west of Greenwood.
The former Paula Yaniga had come with her parents from Austria at the age of three and after a few years in eastern states the family moved to Greenwood. Here she received her education and then worked as a telephone operator in Greenwood.
Henry Vollrath was born three miles northwest of Greenwood. The son of the Philip Vollraths, he continued farming the home place after their marriage. He received his education in the rural school when shinny was the game and degree coaches and hockey were unknown.
In 1957 they moved into their present home and Mr. Vollrath continued to work on the farm until it was sold in the recent years. Mrs. Vollrath again worked as a telephone operator for a number of years.
Through the years they have enjoyed traveling whenever the opportunity arose and have been in Mexico and Canada.
Mrs. Vollrath like to refinish furniture and also does chair caning. They both do gardening. She had been a member of the West Side Homemakers and belongs to the Immanuel Guild.
Mr. Vollrath served as clerk of the Decker school board for 25 years and was chairman of the Town of Warner assessor.
They are members of the Immanuel United Church of Christ.
Their three children Vern Vollrath, Janesville, Dale and Larry Vollrath, Green Bay, with their wives, attended the celebration, along with the eight grandchildren.

The American Legion Hall in Greenwood served as the January 5 site for the golden wedding anniversary gala honoring Phillip and Anna Vollrath, Rt. 2 Greenwood. Approximately 200 attended the event which had as décor the anniversary cake, candles, gold floral centerpiece, bells and streamers. A mock wedding was held with friends participating and a dance was held later.
The couple wore white carnations with gold leaves and ribbons during the celebration hosted by their four children and families.
Philip Vollrath and Anna Cronin were married January 8, 1930, in the Immanuel Reformed Church in Greenwood. Presiding for the nuptials was the Rev. Paul H. Franzmeier. The couple dairy farmed until (19?) when a son bought the family farm. The honored couple moved across the road and then went into hog farming, later moving into a trailer home when a daughter took over that operation in 1976. Two years later, the couple moved into a new home. They are not retired as Phillip still does field work and helps out with the hog operation.
The couple has three sons, DeWayne and Gary, both of Greenwood, and Phillip R., Owen, and one daughter, Leanne Holozsi, Greenwood, thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Anne was born on July 17, 1913, in Greenwood to Patrick and Anna (Hillman) Cronin. She attended Benjamin, Decker and Greenwood Schools. She has been active in her church and is presently president of the Women’s Guild and the couple are members of the Adult Fellowship. Also in good health, she enjoys writing poetry and stories, oil painting, knitting, sewing and quilting.
Phillip was born on August 26, 1907, in the Town of Warner to William and Anna (Schoettler) Vollrath. He attended Decker School in the Town of Warner. He has served as sexton for the West Side Cemetery for many years and served on the local board of directors for Cooperative Services for 15 years. He enjoys hunting, fishing and carpentry and his health is good.

Alphonse Volovsek, son of Mrs. Anna Volovsek and her late husband, Frank, and Virginia Herkert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Herkert of Marshfield, were married June 1, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield by the Rev. Edward Hartung assistant pastor.
Attendants were Mrs. John (Florence Herkert) Smrecek, Tony Volovsek, Mrs. James (Irene) Susa, John Volovsek, Mrs. Joseph (Betty Volovsek) Fraid and James Herkert. Ringbearer was Edward Volovsek, and flowergirl was Mary Staut. After their marriage, they farmed on their present farm.
Mr. and Mrs. Volovsek have five children: Richard of Franklin, Ronald Volovsek of Willard, Roger, Donna and Debra at home. And two granddaughters: Kayra and Heather Volovsek.
Festivities included a dance and entertainment, including lunch at their farm home, which their children planned.
People came from Willard, Greenwood, Marshfield, Franklin, Milwaukee and other places.

The 25th Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Volovsek of route 1, Willard (Clark Co., Wis.), was celebrated Saturday evening, June 1, 1974, with a Mass for their intention at 8:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. A party was held Sunday, June 2 in the afternoon and evening at the couple's residence for relatives, friends, and neighbors. Music was provided by Frank and Patria Pakiz, LaVerne Gregorich and the Richie Yurkovich Trio. An anniversary cake was made by Lois Herkert of Marshfield, and was a replica of the original wedding cake.
Miss Virginia Ann Herkert and Alphonse F. Volovsek were married June 1, 1949 at a 9:00 a.m. Nuptial High Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marshfield by Father Edward Hartung. The couple have been engaged in farming at Willard since. Their children, Roger, Donna, and Debra reside at home, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Volovsek and Kyra at Route 1, Willard, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Volovsek and Heath at Franklin, Wisconsin. On Sunday, July 26, 1959 Mr. and Mrs. Frank Volovsek Sr. celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary with a Mass at 8:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. Rev. Father Aloysius Medic officiated. A buffet luncheon was served at the West Side Hall, followed by a reception.
Frank Volovsek, who was born in Yugoslavia, came to the United States in 1900. Anna Flic, who was also born in Yugoslavia, came tot eh United States the same year and both went to West Allis.
They were married on July 25, 1914 and came to the Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) area in 1928, where they have resided ever since.
All of their children ere present for the celebration on Sunday. They have four daughters, Mrs. Janvid (Mary) Staut, Willard; Mrs. Anton (Marge) Jeras, Milwaukee; Mrs. Ann Sladich, Owen; Mrs. Joe (Betty) Fraid, Milwaukee; seven sons, Frank Jr., Wm. And Alphonse, Willard; Joe, Stanley; John, Greenwood; Anton, Milwaukee, and 36 grandchildren.
Relatives and close friends also attended the celebration. The honored couple received many nice gifts.

On Saturday, July 25, 1964 at 10:00 a.m. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Volovsek Sr. renewed their marriage vows in Holy Family Catholic Church at Willard. Father Wm. A. Nikolai officiated at the Mass, which was sung by members of the family.
Altar boys were grandsons of the couple, Richard, Michael, Steve Volovsek, and Frank Sladich.
The former Ann Flis became the bride of Frank Volovsek on July 25th, 1914 in St. Mary's Catholic Church, West Allis. They were born and raised in Yugoslavia, came to West Allis in 1912, where they lived until 1928 when they came to the Willard (Clark Co., Wis.) area to farm.
Born to the couple were seven sons and 4 daughters, all of which were present. One daughter died in infancy. The sons are: Frank Jr., Al, William, of Willard; Stanley, Joe and John of Greenwood, and Tony of Franklin, Wis. Daughters are Mrs. John (Mary) Staut, La Crosse; Mrs. Anton (Margaret) Jeras, Brookfield; Mrs. Ann Sladich, Marshfield; and Mrs. Joe (Betty) Fraid of West Allis.
Also attending the festivities were 40 of their 41 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. A grandson stationed at Kansas was unable to attend.
A dinner for the immediate family was served at the William Volovsek home, where later in the day open house was held with about 150 guests present.
Guests attending were from Milwaukee, Brookfield, Franklin, West Allis, Madison, Marshfield, Loyal, Colby, Arpin, Thorp, Neillsville, Greenwood and Willard area.

Sixty relatives attended a 50th wedding anniversary dinner Sunday, Oct. 6, 1963, in the American Legion Hall, Neillsville, to honor Mr. and Mrs. Robert Volz. Many other friends attended an open house for the honored couple in the afternoon. The dinner was served by the American Legion and Auxiliary of Neillsville.
Robert Volz, son of Mr. and Mrs. August Volz, and Velmer Linton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Linton, were married Oct. 2, 1913, in Baraboo, with the Rev. Mr. Hanke officiating. Walter Volz and Marcella Coats, attended the couple at the original wedding.
Two weeks after their marriage the newlyweds moved to Clark County, to a 160-acre farm in the town of Washburn, 9 miles southeast of Neillsville. Mr. and Mrs. Volz remained on this farm 41 years, during which time they became the parents of 11 children. They also have 22 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Robert Volz was recognized as one of Clark County’s best dairy farmers for forty years. In Nov. 1954 Mr. and Mrs. Volz sold their farm and moved to Pittsville, and in the spring of 1955 moved to Wis. Rapids where they now reside.
Robert Volz was born in Honey Creek, Sauk Co., Nov. 17, 1884. He grew up on his parent’s farm and attended the neighborhood school. Mrs. Volz was born in the town of Woodman, Grant Co., May 30, 1894. She was employed in a towel factory in Baraboo before her marriage.
Ten of their children attended the anniversary Sunday in Neillsville. Only Mrs. John (Marcella) Adams of California was absent.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Volz of Wisconsin Rapids returned to Neillsville - their life long-time home - to hold an open house Sunday afternoon in connection with the observance of their golden wedding anniversary.
Many friends from the Neillsville area where they made their home for so many years were present for the open house held in the American Legion Memorial Hall. A three-tiered anniversary cake, decorated with white roses and yellow chrysanthemums was made for the occasion by their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Gerald Volz of City Point. Music was provided during the afternoon by Mrs. Alma Evanson and by Connie and Pam Christianson of City Point.
Mr. and Mrs. Volz received many remembrances, including a purse of money.
All except one of their 11 children were present for the event. Absent was Mrs. John (Marcella) Adams of Richmond, Calif.

The Volzs were married October 2, 1913, in Baraboo. Two weeks later they came to Clark County, arriving in Neillsville October 16, 1913, and settled on a farm in the town of Washburn. They remained there until a few years ago, when they moved to Wisconsin Rapids.
Mr. Volz was born in Sauk County on November 17, 1883; and Mrs. Volz, the former Velmer Linton, was born May 30, 1894, in Grant County.

Thomas and Shirley (Kremsreiter) VonLoh were married November 14, 1959, at St. John’s Catholic Church, Wuerzberg, by Rev. Rudolph Urbrig.
An anniversary party was held for the couple on November 14, 2009, at the Rietbrock Town Hall, Poniatowski.
Family and friends as well as members of the original wedding party were present at the celebration. Mr. VonLoh worked for WH Transportation and retired in 2006. The following article was taken from the New Holstein Record, giving an account of the Golden Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Voss, parents of Mr. Gust Voss, who resides two miles north of Highway 13 from this village (Colby, Wis.)
"Fifty-five years of married life is the unusual honor that fell to Mr. and Mrs. Hans Voss on Jan. 16th.
A number of neighbors and friends and ladies of the Lutheran Aid Society with their husband, gathered at the Voss home last Friday evening to pay their respects to our highly respected citizens.
Beautiful bouquets of cut flowers were presented Mr. and Mrs. Voss by the Lutheran Ladies Aid and the New Holstein Ladies Aid Society.
Rev. Halboth, pastor of the Lutheran Church, of which Mr. and Mrs. Voss have always been faithful members, gave a short talk and read several passages from the Holy Scripture. Several appropriate hymns were sung.
Hans Voss and Anna Reinholdt were united in marriage in New Holstein on Jan. 16, 1870. They began life together on an 80 acre farm in the town of Rantoul. The farm was heavily wooded, Mr. Voss being forced to use an axe and saw to clear enough land for spring seeding. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Voss, Loyal, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at their home on Sunday, June 4.
Open house was held from 2 to 4 o’clock for friends, neighbors and relatives. Cake and coffee were served.
Mrs. Voss had a corsage of red roses and white carnations and her husband a white carnation boutnonniere for the occasion.
The couple were married on June 4, 1907, at Loyal by the Rev. William Lange and are members of Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple have both lived in the Loyal area. They farmed until their retirement 24 years ago when they moved into the city.
Mr. Voss was born December 3, 1882 at Waukesha to Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Voss. Mrs. Voss, the former Amanda Schwan, was born December 7, 1886 at Loyal. Her parents were Mr. and mrs. Ernest Schwan.
The couple are the parents of a son and daughter. They are Herbert, route 1, Loyal, and Miss Selma Voss, Milwaukee. There are two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The couple’s original wedding attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Max Voss and Elsie Kadolph, now deceased and Louis Schwan, Chicago, a brother of of Mrs. Schwan, Chicago, who was unable to attend the celebration.

On Sept. 4th. 1907, Max Voss and Miss Hattie Schilling were unified in marriage here in Loyal by the late Pastor W. H. Lange of Trinity Lutheran Church. The first ten years of their married life was spent here in Loyal, after which they purchased a farm in Beaver Township. Here they resided until last December when they returned to Loyal to live. They have one daughter, Mrs. Robert E. (Norma) Shilling of Helenville, and two grandchildren, Maxine and Arden Shilling.
This occasion was quietly observed on Sunday with a family dinner. Those present were: Mrs. Lizzie Schilling of Weyauwega, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schilling and family, Helenville.
This date also marked the 20th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schilling.

Two of the grand old folks of Fairview vicinity were most happily surprised last Sunday evening when eighty or more members of St. Joseph’s Parish gathered in the church parlors to celebrate the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. John Voves. And a memorable part of this celebration was the fact that the bride and groom, then in their middle twenties, were the first couple married in the new church. The wedding was on April 26, 1898, and Father Joseph Stenz was the priest officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Voves have been nearly lifelong residents of Fairview, having lived for only a short time in La Crosse after their marriage.
Although the surprise party was a quickly arranged one, yet the "newlyweds" received a number of very fine gifts from friends, and a gift of cash from the members of the parish. Only two of their eleven children, Wenzel who lives and home, and John were present at Sunday night’s gathering. Two daughters who had been home for the day, left before the party was arranged, but a family reunion is planned for Memorial Day.
Father Brake gave a fine tribute to these estimable people, in his talk Sunday night, saying that it was "only proper we observe such events, because during their years among us they have done so many of those ordinary things that ordinary people do, which never make headlines - favors which the other takes for granted, and which are done as matters of course, thing forgotten by both, but written by angels into records kept in heaven." A tribute in which all friends and neighbors join with hearty accord and a fervent Amen.
