Mr. and Mrs. Byron Talcott of Wausau observed their 40th wedding anniversary Thanksgiving Day at the home of their son, Mr. and Mrs. Arvid Talcott. Other guests present in honor of the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Talcott, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Mollen Talcott and daughter, and Mrs. Ruth Sorenson of Unity.

The Register joins their local friends in extending congratulations and best wishes for many more years of happy wedded life together.

Mr. and Mrs. Byron A. Talcott of Rib Mountain were joined in the celebration of their golden wedding anniversary Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Unity Memorial Hall by about 260 relatives and friends who came from Stanley, Fort Atkinson, Colby, Spencer, Unity, Abbotsford, Marshfield, Wausau, Loyal, Park Falls, Milwaukee, Muskego, Slinger, Stratford, Adell, Marathon, Fenwood, and Plainfield, Wis., and Gary Ind. And Stillwater, Okla.

Open house was held in the afternoon from 2 to 4 o'clock, and in the evening there was dancing from 9 to 1 o'clock.

Ann anniversary cake, decorated by Mrs. Arvid Talcott, and a money tree enhanced the table, from which a 4:30 buffet dinner was served.

Miss Hildegard Brehm, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Brehm, was born in Colby and was edcuated in the Athens schools. Mr. Brehm, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Marlon Talcott, was born in Grant County and educated there and in Marathon County schools and was engaged in farming at Unity. Their marriage took place Nov. 25, 1914, at Wausau. They lived on a farm in Unity for 31 years and in 1945 sold it to their oldest son, Arvid, and moved in April of that year to Marshfield, where Mr. Talcott built a new home on St. Joseph Ave. In 1952 they built another new home in Rib Mounty, where they moved and still reside.

After Mr. Talcott's retirement from the farm, he took up carpentry and continued in that occupation until 1957. Mr. Talcott's hobby is wood working, to which he has added gardening and raising of flowers.

While in the Unity area Mr. Talcott served as assessor of the town of Brighton for 19 years, and was school treasurer for Enterprise School.

Mrs. Talcott enjoys crocheting and fancy work in her spare time.

Both are members of the Lutheran Church.

The Talcotts have three sons, Arvid of Unity, Mollen of Park Falls, and Kenneth of Wausau. They have five grandchildren.

Alfred and Jeanette Telford, Colby, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Saturday, June 15, with a lunch at Hannah’s Hideout in Unity with their children, Sand Beisner, Spencer, Arlyn and Kathy Telford, Colby, and al Telford, Curtiss.

Then Arlyn and Kathy entertained guests at their home. Attending were grandchildren, Tammy Beisner and C. J. Simonson, Athens; Melanie Fetting and husband Gary, Colby; Mitchell Telford Colby. Great-grandchildren attending were Russell and Garrett Fetting; Tucker, Madie and Tae Meyer, Unity and Cody Simonson.

Also stopping for a small lunch with cake and ice cream were Emery and Joanne Rahm, Delores Kiefer and Jerry and Donna Kollath.

Alfred and Jeanette were married June 15, 1948, in Curtiss.

The tenth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stephens, of Curtiss, Wisconsin and fifth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Telin of Dorchester, Wisconsin were celebrated at the country home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stephens on Monday, June 26th.

The afternoon was spent in visiting and at 4:30 a picnic supper was served by the hostess. In the evening their friends and relatives gathered at Hinke’s hall where they were entertained by dancing.

Mr. and Mrs. Karl Tessman, route 1, Loyal, celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary Saturday, June 25, with a reception from 2 to 11 p.m. at Spencer hall in Spencer.

A buffet supper was served to about 150 guests. The hall was decorated for the event and there were golden mums, a three tiered wedding cake, and a gold money tree for table decorations. Mr. and Mrs. Tessmer wore a gold corsage and a white carnation which were gifts from their children.

Karl Tessmer was born October 18, 1888, at Pittsberg, Pennsylvania, and Leona Bosse Tessmer was born January 12, 1897 at Oeimmee, North Dakota. They were married June 29, 1916 at Dorchester by Pastor F. H. Moacker. Mr. and Mrs.Tessmer have four daughters, Mrs. John (Millie) Ericksmoen, of Owen; Mrs. Delmar (Ruth) Foster, Independence, Missouri; Mrs. Donald (Dorothy) Darge, Racine; and Mrs. Harold (Florence) Bingham, Kenosha; two sons Leroy, of Racine and Edwin, Belton, Texas. Edwin was unable to be present for the celebration. They also have 18 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

The honored couple received many cards and gifts. They were presented with a kitchen range from their children and there were also gifts of plants and money.

Cards were played in the afternoon, and in the evening music for dancing was enjoyed by the guests.

Guests came for the event from Oshkosh, Racine, Marathon, Schofield, Dorchester, Medford, Thorp, Owen, Avalon, Kenosha, Marshfield, Spencer, and Loyal. The out-of state guests present were from Detroit, Michigan, Chicago, Crestwood, Waukegan and Carpentersville, Illinois; Logansport, Indiana; and Independence, Missouri. Mrs. Tessmer’s brother Herman Bosse of the state of Washington, telephoned his sister to extend his best wishes.

CELEBRATE THEIR TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY

A surprise party arranged by the Ladies Society of St. John’s Lutheran Church was given Sunday afternoon on Mr. and Mrs. Hans Walk and Mr. And Mrs. Chas. Tews at the Tews home in North Pine Valley. It was a genuine surprise and a real success in every way.

The ladies had golly supply of fine eatables which made up a fine wedding supper which was greatly enjoyed by all the ladies and their husbands. A most enjoyable afternoon was spent.

The occasion was the twentieth anniversary of the marriages of Mr. and Mrs. Walk and Mr. and Mrs. Tews, and Rev. Brandt gave a brief discourse reminding them of the joys and blessings the past twenty years had brought to them. All present and their many other friends wish these good people many more years of happy married life.

Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Thede of Abbotsford celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday, April 10, with their two sons and daughters-in-law.  The afternoon and evening were spent at the Thede home and dinner was served at the Florena Club at Medford.

Mr. and Mrs. Thede have been residents of Abbots for since 1958 upon his retirement and both are in fair health.

Mr. Thede was born in Cavalier, N. Dak., Oct. 25, 1888, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Thede.  At the age of seven, after the accidental death of his father, his mother and the family moved to New Holstein where he was educated.  He was employed there for a milling company for six years and for the New Holstein Canning Co.

Mrs. Thede, the former Hattie Winkel, was born Jan. 8, 1894, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Winkel, at Stockridge.  When she was 10 years old, the family moved to New Holstein.

On April 7, 1915, the marriage of Hattie Winkel and Edmund Thede took place at the United Church of Christ at New Holstein with Hedwig Thede and Herman Winkel at attendants and the Rev. A. C. Plappert officiating.

After their marriage they purchased a farm west of Colby and transferred their membership to the United Church of Christ of Colby where they have been members continuously.

Besides farming, Mr. Thede was field superintendent for various canning factories at Colby, Dorchester and Medford for about 22 years.

The Thedes have two sons, LeRoy, who lives at Abbotsford and Vilas who owns the home farm.

The anniversary date was made more memorable by the surprise visit of Mr. Thede’s brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Jochimsen, of New Holstein who came on Tuesday and returned the following day.

A group of relatives, friends and neighbors surprised Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Theil at the Val Krainz home in Willard (Clark Co., Wis.) and helped them celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary last Sunday.

Mrs. Thiel, the former Delores Klune, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Klune, and Bruce Thiel, son of Mrs. Mamie Thiel, were united in marriage at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greenwood, on February 3, 1951.

Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Thieme observed their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday, June 15, 1969, with an open house at their home in Colby (Clark Co., Wis.).

Among guest were two of the attendants at their wedding, Clarence "Bud" Nelson, Abbotsford, a brother of Mrs. Thieme, who served as best man, and Mrs. Leon (Blanche Genrich) Chapman of Alma Center, who was a bridesmaid.

The Thiemes have four children, Rodney and Robert, at home, a married daughter, Mrs. Brent (Geraldine) Bower, Gages Lake, Illinois, and James, who is serving with the Air Force. He is stationed in New Mexico, and was unable to be home for the occasion.

On Saturday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Thieme were surprised with a dinner party at Casa Grande. Arrangements were made by their son-in-law and daughter, Brent and Geri Bower, who were home for the weekend. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Brent Bower, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Decker, and Mr. and Mrs. Seymour Gustafson.

Monday, November 3, marked the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Thoma of the town of Weston. Their attendants fifty years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hemp, of Neillsville, were again privileged to be with them on Monday. The invited guests, included relatives, close friends and neighbors numbered about a hundred.

Those who came from a distance were: Mrs. Mary Dudei, New London; Mrs. William May and son, Clifford, St. Paul; and Arthur Thoma and two sons, Donald and Asa, Berlin. The Rev. A. Schuamann gave a splendid talk, the balance of the day being spent in visiting, singing and other entertainment. Melvin, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Appleyard, played a cornet solo, "Silver Threads Among the Gold."

The rooms of the Thoma home were beautifully decorated in gold and white streamers, a large white wedding bell, chrysanthemums and yellow roses. The wedding cake, backed by their daughter, Mrs. Fred Appleyard, was decorated with yellow roses.

Mr. Thoma was born at Helenville, Jefferson County, Wisconsin, March 5, 1867. His father died when he was 16 years old. He worked on a farm at Rock Prairie, Wis., for two years and at the home farm for a like number of years, before coming to Clark County in 1888 where he bought 40 acres of land in the town of Weston, their present home. He had but fifty dollars to pay down on the land.

In 1891 he was married to Bertha Scheel, who was born in Brandenburg, Germany. Mrs. Thoma came to America, when she was nine years of age, her parents coming at once to the town of Weston. They bought the farm which now is the Richard Hagedorn home. Mrs. Thoma, being the eldest of thirteen children, had to work for her board on a farm for three years, later working in the city of Neillsville for a dollar a week. She and a sister, Mrs. Mary Dudei, also attended school here. They walked to Neillsville from their home in Weston, a distance of 8 miles every Monday morning, walking home again on Friday evening. During the week they worked for their board before and after school. Mrs. Thoma stated that she and her sister often walked to town with a basket of butter and eggs, returning with groceries. Butter brought ten cents per pound and eggs were poor so the children were allowed to keep only a very small portion of their meager wages for themselves. Life was lived simply, indeed. Most of the luxuries of today were unheard of, yet Mrs. Thoma believes that the young folks were far happier and more content than the youth of today.

Mr. and Mrs. Thoma have been splendid citizens throughout the years, doing their just share as homemakers and community builders. They have been active members and faithful workers in the Globe Lutheran Church for fifty years. Charitable and generous, no one has ever been turned away from their home hungry.

The Thoma’s increased their acreage from time to time as finances permitted. The children assisted their parents in clearing the land and in turn Mr. Thoma started his sons out on nice farms of their own.

Thousands of cords of wood have been cut by the men of the family and delivered to distant markets. The elder Thoma helped turnpike many of the roads in the town of Weston. Being a carpenter, he worked out whenever he could be spared from the farm. He erected most of the buildings on his farm and many others.

Five children, four boys and a girl, were born to them. One son, George, died at the age of seven. The surviving children are; Arthur, Town of Seif; at present located at Berlin; Frank, Weston; John, on the home farm, and Mrs. Fred Appleyard, Pine Valley. There are 15 grandchildren.

LOYAL RESIDENTS OBSERVE GOLDEN WEDDING EVENT

Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Thomas Celebrate Saturday With Dinner and Program

Loyal, Feb 25--Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Thomas, residents of this community the past 40 years, who were married Feb. 24, 1880, at Crystal Plains, Kansas, were honored guests Saturday at a golden wedding celebration at their home.

Dinner was served at noon at tables decorated in yellow and white, with a beautiful cake as a center piece. A white wedding bell was suspended above the table, and gold-colored streamers added to the festive appearance of the room. Daffodils and narcissus were included in the decorations.

Children Present

Covers were laid for 42, among those present being the two children of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas, Principal J. R. Thomas of the Loyal high school, and Mrs. George Fisher, Spokeville, together with Mr. Fisher and their three children, Miss Norma, who is employed in a beauty shop at Marshfield, and Hazel and Thomas, students at the local high school.

After dinner a pleasing program of entertainment was presented. Miss Elma Prior played piano selection, community singing was led by J. M. Philpott, and readings were given by Mrs. George Tucker, Mrs. Rose Frasier, Mrs. John Chesterman, Mrs. Minnie Church, Mrs. Mary Welsh, and Mrs. Cora Cannon.

Receive Many Gifts

The honor guests were the recipients of many appropriate gifts, among them gold coins and a beautiful bouquet of roses and carnations, sent by the Eastern Star chapter, with which Mrs. Thomas is affiliated. She is also a member of the Royal Neighbor camp, of the W. T. C. U., and of the Methodist Episcopal church and various women's organizations of the congregation. Mr. Thomas is a member of the Masonic order.

Mr. Thomas was born in 1856 at Plattsburg, N. Y., and Mrs. Thomas was born Oct. 5, 1861 at Winona, Minn. Following their marriage in Crystal Plains, Kansas, they resided in that community until 1890, when they came to Clark county and settled on a farm near Spokeville. In 1902 they retired from farming and have since made their home in the village, where they have both taken an active part in the welfare of the community.

LOYAL COUPLE WED 56 YEARS

Event Is Observed by D. A. Thomases

Loyal--The 56th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Thomas was observed here informally on Monday, Feb. 24, as relatives called in the evening to help celebrate the event.

The Thomas family has lived in the present home in Loyal since they came here 35 years ago from Spokeville, Wis., where they lived on a farm for 11 years. The first ten years of their marriage were spent in Kansas.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Thomas are active for their years. Mr. Thomas cuts his year's wood supply, and Mrs. Thomas participates in church work, W.C.T.U., R.N.A., and O.E.S societies.

The couple has two children living: Mrs. George Fisher, Spokeville, and J. R. Thomas, principal in Loyal.

Thomas, Don/Mary (Gold - 24 Feb 1930)

The friends who gathered at the D. A. Thomas (Don and Mary) home at high noon last Saturday enjoyed one of those rare social events which we should love to welcome more often - the golden wedding day of old friends.

Many were surprised to learn that Mr. and Mrs. Thomas had been married fifty years; and when the guests arrived and were greeted by the honored couple, they felt yet more inclined to say, "Is it possible that this is their golden wedding?" But Mrs. Thomas assures us that she was born in Winona, Minnesota, on October 5, 1861, and that Mr. Thomas was born in Plattsburg, New York, in 1856. And the it seems that it was decreed that the sunny plains of Kansas should be their happy meeting place, for they were married in Crystal Plains, Kansas, on February 24, 1880. They lived in Kansas until 1890, when they decided to join the Badgers of Clark County. Spokeville and Loyal have claimed them since that date.

We cannot say that the decorations were simply in keeping; they were a vibrant part of the whole golden scheme. A beautiful rose and carnation bouquet from the "Eastern Star" brought with their fragrance many golden memories. The baskets of just "hosts of golden daffodils intermixed with golden hearted white narcissus suggested freshness and new life of early spring. These were brought by the children and grandchildren. None of us could see them and not feel,

"And then my heart with rapture thrills

And dance with daffodils"

The soft rays of electric lights from the white wedding bell and golden shades were beautiful, but soon the real splendor of the sunshine spent itself in golden rays among the guests gathered in friendly cheer about the bounteous dinner. We do not know how much Mrs. Thomas had helped in preparation of this feast, but this was one time when she had to trust a great deal to her competent aids. But master hands were behind the scenes and deft hands served us well.

With the arrival of the first guests, the joys of old friendship and a genuine cheer of past and present were aroused and filled the atmosphere, continuing throughout the dinner and the program which followed.

A few old songs opened the program. Mrs. Tucker gave a reading, the theme of which was "Oh, could I be such a friend as you have been to me." We knew that Mrs. Tucker applied it Whole Heartedly to her neighbors, the Thomases. Mrs. Cannon gave a selection which seemed written for the occasion, "Your Golden Wedding." The thought of Mrs. Church’s reading was "the love of the thousands, not of the few...the love that is spent in love for children, for mother, for wife," the old triangle of love which lives for a lifetime, and brings to golden home life more golden weddings. These readings made us, in our inner selves, gratified to honor. Three of the more elderly friends on the program were Mrs. Frasier reading "Life’s Afternoon,"? Mrs. Chestman, reading Whittier’s "Golden Wedding", and Mrs. Welsh, singing Burass "John Anderson, My Jo." Somehow the added years and experience of these three gave significance to the thoughts they bro’t us. Miss Elma Prior said various beautiful lovely things in a beautiful piano reverie. The next number was to be a closing, but it was not.

Many of the men had remained in the dining room, supposedly to have ore room, but really to guard the large wedding cake, still occupying the center of the table. They began to call for more songs and yet more. Then came the cake and more songs. They finally all gathered in one room and continued to sing, with Mrs. Philpott at the piano and Mr. Philpott leading us on. Harmony and good fellowship were abounding, when the hour of five drew near and the farewell song was finished.

With gratitude to Mrs. Geo. Fisher and Mr. Roy Thomas who gave us the privilege of this happy occasion and with best wishes for the future happiness of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas the guests departed. About forty were present, and all regretted the absence of the four or five near friends who could not be present.

Some beautiful gifts were left as reminders and tokens of love. There was a gold sugar shell, a five-dollar gold piece of Alaskan gold, a tablecloth, a twenty-dollar gold piece from many of the friends, and two twenty-dollar gold pieces, from Mr. Roy Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Fisher and children, Norma, Thomas, and Hazel.

Would that such occasions were not so rare. All present felt an uplift and a urge in life that was repeatedly expressed in such words as "Isn’t it good to get together on occasions like this.?"

Mr. and Mrs. Forest Thompson of Neillsville were guests of honor Saturday evening at a dinner at the Silver Dome Supper Club in celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary. The party was given by their seven children, all of whom were present.

Mr. Thompson of Neillsville and Isabelle Skar of Merrillan, were married January 20, 1930, in Illinois. He was a baker in Neillsville for 45 years, retiring about two years ago. They have 17 grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Thompson, 118 East Ninth St., Neillsville, observed their golden wedding anniversary on January 20 with a 1 p.m. dinner at the Silver Dome Supper Club. A special celebration was held in the afternoon by member of the family.

For their special occasion, Mrs. Thompson wore a blue pantsuit with a mum and carnation corsage with gold ribbon and Mr. Thompson had a gold boutonniere. A gold and white decorated cake, with a 50-year gold anniversary top, graced the head of the table. The Thompsons were married in Waukegan, Illinois, in a civil ceremony in 1930.

Mrs. Thompson was born in Merrillan and attended schools there. Mr. Thompson was born in Tenino, Washington. The family moved to Wisconsin, and he attended schools in West Allis and then graduated from Neillsville High School.

Mr. and Mrs. Thompson are both in good health. He enjoys hunting and fishing. She likes to hook rugs and do embroidery work and has been a Sunday school teacher at the United Methodist for the past 40 years.

Seven children were born to this union: Phillip and Norman, both of Rockford, Ill.; Charles, Northfield; and Mrs. David (Dorothy) Bertz, Mrs. Donald (Carol) Ayers, Mrs. Ronald (Marie) Henning and Glenn, all of Neillsville. They also have 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The Maple Hill Hall was decorated in pink and silver on Saturday evening, as Mr. and Mrs. Earl Tieman, 702 N. Franklin, Stanley (Chippewa Co., Wis.), observed their 25th wedding anniversary.

Mrs. Tieman greeted their guests wearing a floor length gown featuring a floral skirt and black bodice, adorned with a corsage of deep red rose buds and pink carnations. The groom of twenty-five years ago wore a matching carnation boutonniere.

Friends and relatives enjoyed an evening of visiting and dancing to the music provided by Mrs. Tieman's step-brothers, Elwood Jenness of Thorp and John Jenness of Ladysmith, and friends Robert Stewart and Roy Gibbs of Stanley. A buffet luncheon was served during the evening to approximately one hundred guests.

Mabelle Rasmussen and Earl Tieman were married March 15, 1947 at Our Savior's Lutheran Parsonage by the Rev. John Midtlien. They have lived their entire married life in Stanley. He is employed as the automobile mechanic at the Northern Colony and Training School, Chippewa Falls, and she is employed at the Stanley Republican Newspaper office.

They have three children, Mrs. Clifford (Sally) Licht of Eagle; Petty Officer Michael, who is an instructor at the Navy's Nuclear School in West Milton, New York (unable to be present); and David, at home. They also have three grandsons, Chad, Sean, and Ryan Licht.

A trip later this month to the Wisconsin town in which they were married is planned by a Spokane couple, who last week celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

The journey to Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), Mrs. A.E. Timerson said today, will be the first in a decade she and her husband have made to that town where they were born, grew up and married on Aug. 7, 1907.

Since they came to Spokane in 1918, they have lived continuously in the same house at E517 Kiernan. Mr. Timerson is a retired painter and salesman.

On Saturday, May 17, 1958, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Timmler celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary by entertaining relatives and friends at the American Legion Hall in Neillsville. They also entertained relatives and friends at supper at their home in the Town of Warner (Clark Co., Wis.) on Sunday, May 18.

They received many lovely cards and gifts.

Rose Humke, daughter of Theodore Humke and the late Adeline Humke, and Fred Timmler, son of the late Ed Timmler and Mrs. Ed Timmler, of Neillsville,w ere united in marriage on May 17, 1933, at the West Side Evangelical and Reformed Church, now know as the West Side United Church of Christ, by Rev. Paul Franzmeier.

For a time their resided on a farm north of Greenwood, and then moved to their present farm in the Town of Warner.

The Timmlers have two sons, Robert, who attends school in Milwaukee, and Irving at home, and a daughter, Lorraine, Marshfield. Al were present at the celebration.

Mr. and Mrs. Red (Rose) Timmler of Loyal celebrated their 50th wedding Anniversary Saturday.

An open house was at the American Legion Hall at Loyal, A dinner for about 300 people was served and a dance followed that evening.

Timmler was born July 24, 1905 at Neillsville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin (Clara) Timmler. He received his education in Neillsville public schools, graduating in 1923 from Neillsville High School. He worked on his parents' farm before marriage.

The former Rose Humke was born October 26, 1909 in the Town of Warner, Clark County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore (Adeline) Humke. She received her education at Clark County rural schools, Greenwood High School, Neillsville County Normal School and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

They were married May 17, 1933 at Immanuel United Church of Christ by the Rev. Paul Franzmeier.

The couple retired from farming in 1968. Mrs. Timmler, who taught in several rural schools in Clark County, concluded her teaching career in 1976 at Loyal Elementary School as a first grade teacher.

They are members of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood.

They have three children, Robert of Milwaukee, Loraine Lindner of Loyal and Irving of Greenwood; and 10 grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Tischendorf, Rt. 1, Dorchester, who were married 50 years ago on August 13, 1924 at Medford, celebrated the occasion on Saturday with an open house from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dorchester Fire Hall. The evening was spent at the Marvin Steevens residence, and Sunday church services were attended by family and friends, followed by a dinner at the Steevens home.

Mrs. Tischendorf, the former Hattie Gribowski, was born November 8, 1904 at Edgar, in the Town of Frankfort. She is a member of the County Line Homemaker Club and the ladies guild at the United Church of Christ.

Paul Tischendorf, a farmer and carpenter, was born October 20, 1901 at Dorchester. He is a member of the United Church of Christ Council and a former member of the Cleveland School Board. The couple has lived at the home Tischendorf farm all of their married life.

Mr. and Mrs. Tischendorf are the parents of five children: Mrs. Gerald (Delores) Frey, Stetsonville; Mrs. George (Fern) Hargraves, Athens, and Mrs. Marvin (Joyce) Steevens, Don Tischendorf and Marvin Tischendorf, all of Dorchester; 39 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Emil H. Tober of Unity was observed with a special service May 26 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Pittsville.

On the date of their anniversary, May 29, 1968, a buffet dinner was served to 105 friends and relatives at 6 p.m. An open house had been held that afternoon at the Unity Memorial Hall, which was decorated in gold and white, with chrysanthemums, carnations and lilacs.

Mrs. Tober wore a corsage of cymbidium orchids.

Among the honored guests was the bridesmaid for their marriage, Mrs. Arthur Dux of Granton.

The couple was married May 29, 1918, in the town of Sherman in Clark County, Wisconsin. They lived at Granton from 1918 to 1927, where he was a cheesemaker, and then took up farming near Unity, until their retirement in 1961. They are members of Zion Lutheran Church, Colby.

Emil H. Tober was born October 16, 1896, at Clintonville. He received his education at Pella Lutehran School there. His hobbies, now that he is retired, include fishing, cards and watching baseball.

The former Edna Ethel Krueger was born September 28, 1898, at Milwaukee. She received her education in the town of Sherman schools, near Spokeville. Her hobbies include reading, fishing and crocheting.

The couple has one son, Leo E. Tober Sr. of St. Petersburg, Florida, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Among the guests attending were their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Tober, and a surprise guests, their grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Leo E. Tober Jr., also of St. Petersburg.

Erwin and LaVerne Toburen of Greenwood were honored Saturday, October 21, in observance of their 40th wedding anniversary. Their son, Delmain and his wife, Carole, hosted the surprise celebration, which was held at the Legion Hall in Greenwood. Included in the meat that was served was a cake, decorated by Margaret and Denise Dillenbeck.

The dinner prayer was given by the four grandchildren. Following the meal and opening of their gifts, many danced to the music of Mary Ann and Donna, Willard. During the evening, a birthday cake was given to Donna Kirn by the Delmain Toburen family in honor of her birthday on this day.

The entire original wedding party was present for the occasion including Delmar Toburen, Greenwood, Lawrence Kuester, St. Louis, Mo; Delores (Toburen) Goger, Chicago; Lorena (Humke) Lindner, Greenwood, and Eldora Luther, Merrill. A mock wedding was performed by Don Mattes, Thorp; Mrs. Elmer Noah, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Humke and Harry Liebzeit, all of Greenwood.

LaVerne is the daughter of the late Albert and Ella (Kuester) Fravert, and Erwin is the son of the late William and Anna (Schmidt) Toburen. They were married October 20, 1938, at the home farm, Rt. 2 Greenwood, by the Rev. Paul Franzmeier. They are parents of one child, a son, Delmain, and have four grandchildren, Mark, David, Bobbi Lynn and Jana Lynn.

They operated a farm for 31 years, at Rt. 2 Greenwood, where Delmain and family now reside. In 1969, they moved to the city of Greenwood, where they are presently residing.

Over 230 friends and relatives attended the event. Several were from the Greenwood area. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Tolaney were surprised Saturday evening at their home by relatives and friends, who came to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.

The Greenwood Satellites 4-H club band provided entertainment for the evening.  A mock wedding was staged, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Many gifts were received by the honored couple and a lunch was served following the opening of the gifts.  A large wedding anniversary cake served as centerpiece on the refreshment table.

Joseph Tolaney and Jennie Horvat were married in Willard, November 11, 1940.  Five of their six children and their families were present for the occasion. They are: Mrs. Patrick (Angeline) O’Brien and husband of Racine; Miss Marjorie, Joseph and John Tolaney of Milwaukee; and Mrs. Leroy (Joanne) Kesler and her husband and children, Alicia and Lori, of Greenwood.  Airman 3/c Tony Tolaney of Chanute Field, Rantoul, Ill., was not able to attend.

Besides the many relatives and friends from the Greenwood and Willard area, those from away who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Tony Tolaney of Stevens Point; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Jeras of Lyons, Ill.; Frank Wilhelm of Milwaukee; and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Schultz and Mr. and Mrs. Tony Perushek of Neillsville.

The 35th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tomac of Gary, In., former Greenwood residents was celebrated at the Legion Hall in Greenwood Saturday. The party was hosted by their three sons and their spouses: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tomac of Chicago, Il.; Mr. and Mrs. John Tomac of Gary, In.; and Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Tomac of Eau Claire, and their families. The Tomac’s have seven grandchildren.

Others present were his brothers and sisters: Mr. and Mrs. Ed Maass of Withee; Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Hemersbach of Morris, Il.; Mrs. Dale Nerbun of Ladysmith; Mr. and Mrs. John Speich and Gerald Steffen of Greenwood; Dr. and Mrs. Victor Perman of St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Meisner of Racine; and friends from the Greenwood area.

The honored couple was married in California October 5, 1940.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Topinka of Neillsville R 2 are observing their golden wedding anniversary.  They were married in Chicago, May 27, 1905.
 

Both Mr. and Mrs. Topinka were born in Czechoslovakia.  They were married in Chicago. They moved to Neillsville community, and have resided here about 40 years.
 

Mr. and Mrs. Topinka are the parents of nine children.  They have 22 grandchildren, four daughters-in-law and two sons-in-law.

Mr. and Mrs. Floyd (Mary Schraufnagel) Treankler of Abbotsford, who were married June 27, 1933 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Colby, observed the golden anniversary of their marriage June 24.

The Rev. Emil A. Hodnik of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Abbotsford, was celebrant for the Mass for family and relatives on the lawn of the Treankler home. A social evening followed.

On June 26 they had open house at the VFW Clubhouse, Colby, where there was music, dancing, refreshments and visiting.

The Treanklers lived in the Stratford area several years, later moving to Wausau. In 1946 they purchased a farm at Abbotsford and have been there since. He was employed in the area in addition to operating a farm and retired in 1972.

The Treanklers have a daughter, Mrs. Allen (Virginia) Stange, Abbotsford; a son, Dwight Treankler, Colby; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildre. Another daughter, Mrs. Donald (Darlyn) Haralson of Marshfield, died in 1979. Attendants at their wedding, Martha and Alphonse Schraufnagel, sister and brother of Mrs. Treankler, were present for the golden occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Trimberger, Granton celebrated their 50th wedding annive3rsart on Sunday, July 13, with an open house hosted by their children being held at Zion Lutheran Church, Granton.

The couple and their guests attended a special service at Zion Lutheran Church, led by their son, the Rev. Dale Trimberger. The Trimberger’s daughter, Elaine, and the Rev. Horst Augustin were readers. A nephew, Dr. Richard Hillert, Melrose Park, Illinois, was guest organist.

Hugo Trimberger and the former Minnie Buddinger were married July 15, 1930, in Zion Lutheran Church, Granton, by the Rev. Karl Hoeh. Serving as attendants were Marion (Schoengarth) Smith of Altoona and Victor Trimberger of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Hugo was born August 24, 1903, in the Town of Grant, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Trimberger. Mrs. Trimberger was born February 1, 1905, in the Town of York to Mr. and Mrs. Peter Buddinger.

Before his retirement, Hugo was employed by Granton Public Schools for 22 years as a bus driver. He also did painting in the area.

Mr. and Mrs. Trimberger are members of Zion Lutheran Church, Granton. He has been active in the Men’s Club and has served on church boards and committees. She is presently a member of the Ladies Aid and the L.W.M.L. Both enjoy gardening and fishing.

They are the parents of two children, Elaine, Menasha, and Dale, Marshfield. They have two grandchildren, Joel and Ann Trimberger.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tripp of Lindsey, Wis., are celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary at the home of their daughter, Mrs. John (Irene) Porter, Marshfield, R. 1 (in the Nasonville community) on Sunday, November 30, 1947 and extend a cordial invitation to all of their Greenwood friends who can attend.  A dinner will be served at noon for the immediate relatives.

Miss Ida A Torsch and Charles Trip were married in Greenwood on November 24, 1897 with Rev. Uncle George Andrews officiating.  However the celebration will be held on November 30th.

Mr. and Mrs. Alonza Truax celebrated their golden wedding on Wednesday afternoon Jan. 18th, 1922, in the presence of about 50 relatives and friends.

At 1 o'clock Rev. J. H. Chatterson performed the marriage ceremony, the couple being attended by their son Earl and Mrs. Carrie Bennett, sister of Mrs. Truax, and standing under a large white bell. After the impressive ceremony they received the congratulations of their guests.

The house was prettily decorated for the event in yellow and white, and bouquets of carnations.

A bountiful wedding supper was served to the guests which all did justice to.

Many nice gifts and a sum of money was received by the worthy couple, as a reminder of the event which will long be remembered.

Mr. Truax is 74 years old and Mrs. Truax who is 65, are both enjoying good health. They were married at Williamstown, New York, Jan. 18th, 1872, coming to Spencer in 1874. Five years later they moved into Clark County, Wis., living on two different farms, which they owned until last fall, when they came to this village. They have three sons, Earl, Nelson and Clifford, and one daughter, Mrs. Louie Miller of Abbotsford. The relatives from away who were in attendance were Mrs. Jennie Sankee of Minn., and Mrs. Carrie Bennett of Oregon.

It is the wish of the many friends that Mr. and Mrs. Truax live to enjoy many more anniversaries.

Mr. and Mrs. John F. Trunkel celebrated their silver wedding anniversary August 2. Sophie Gosar and John F. Trunkel were married at Willard, in the Holy Family Catholic Church, on August 2, 1943. Rev. Raphael Stragisher, O.V.M. officiated.

Their children, John, Robert, Judith, Jacob, Kathleen and Daniel, presented them with gifts and the family and Allen Wessel participated in a high mass given in their honor at the church. They enjoyed an anniversary dinner at the Log Cabin in Hayward.

But on the second Sunday they were surprised by a gathering of relatives and friends at their home. Congratulations were extended and a potluck dinner was served.

They received many gifts. A large white and silver wedding cake, baked by Mrs. Ignatz Sladich, decorated the table.

The Rev. Michael Mertens officiated for the 30th wedding anniversary mass for Mr. and Mrs. John M. F. Trunkel during the 8:30 a.m. Mass Sunday morning at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard.

John F. Trunkel and Sophie Gosar were married August 2, 1943, at the Holy Family Catholic Church by the Rev. Raphael Stragisher. The attendants were Josephine (Laken) Verschay, Anna (Gosar) Sladich, Frank Koschak and Edward Trunkel. After their marriage, the Trunkels farmed on the home farm near Willard and are still there.

Mr. and Mrs. Trunkel have six children: John W.; Robert, who is married; Mrs. Allen (Judy) Wessel of Greenwood; Jacob, Kathy, and Daniel. They have one grandchild, Scotty Wessel.

Festivities included barbecued pork and all the trimmings, and music, visiting, picture taking and social gathering of about 250 people, including relatives and friends, was held at the open shelter at Willard. Also a mock wedding was held, with the following taking part: Bill Snedic, Kathy Trunkel, Robert and Joan Trunkel, Frank Koschak and Judy Wessel.

The anniversary cake was made by their daughters, Kathy Trunkel and Judy Wessel. The Trunkels received a number of gifts and cards.      

Tucker, Mr. and Mrs. William (40th-Nov 1964) & (Golden - 1974)

In honor of their fortieth wedding anniversary which was Nov. 12, Mr. and Mrs. William Tucker were entertained at dinner Sunday by their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Gardner, Peggy, Wendy, Roddy, Kathy and Gary. Upon returning home, the Tuckers were surprised to find their home filled with guests.

An open house golden anniversary celebration for Mr. and Mrs. William Tucker of Loyal, was held last Sunday afternoon. Following a family dinner at Star Lodge Motel, friends and relatives greeted the honored couple at St. Anthony’s School. Floral arrangements graced the refreshment table. A granddaughter, kathy Gardner, had made the wedding cake.

William Tucker, the son of George and Mabel (Pierce) Tucker, lived on the home farm for 51 years. It is now operated by the son-in-law and daughter, Vern and Noreen Gardner, on Rt. 2 Greenwood. While on the farm he served nine years on the Town of Eaton board and also on the Prosperity School board of education for 10 years.

He graduated from Loyal High School in 1920.

After moving into their present home in Loyal in 1953, Mr. Tucker drove truck for the canning factory and others, and then worked for nine years.

The former Norma Herdrich was a native of the Town of Loyal. Her parents were Oscar and Mary Herdrich. After receiving her early education at Pleasant View School, she was graduated from Loyal High School in 1922 and then attended Eau Claire Teachers College for two years.

The Tuckers were married in Loyal November 12, 1924, with Florence Herdrich (now Mrs. Victor Dietz of Mt. Carroll, Il.,) and the late Reno Herdrich as their attendants. A relative from England, the Rev. W. H. Sargent, who was then a Congregational minister in Owen, performed the ceremony at the home of the bride.

After moving into Loyal, Mrs. Tucker clerked at the Zepplin Furniture Store for 12 years. She was active in the West Loyal Homemakers club for more than 15 years. As a member of the Women’s Society for Christian Service, she had held the position of president at one time. At the Loyal United Methodist Church, where she is a member, she taught Sunday school and also was active in two Bible study groups.

The Tuckers have traveled in various parts of the states and Canada through the years.

In addition to a daughter on the home place, the Tuckers have another daughter, Mrs. Claude (Gwendolyn) Bickler of Wausau. There are seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Guests of special interest who attended the celebration were: Mr. Tucker’s brother, Harold Tucker and wife of Loyal, who had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1973. A sister, Mrs. Harold (Bessie) Blancher of Seattle, Wa., came by plane for the anniversary. She and her husband who was unable to attend, had celebrated their golden anniversary in 1972.

Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Turnquist were honored with a dinner and reception Sunday in the basement of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood in celebration of their golden wedding anniversary.  Flowers decorated the dining room - yellow roses, a gift from her sister, Mrs. Helen Campbell of Lewiston, Wash., who could not be present, and bowls of yellow carnations and white snapdragons, a gift from the grandchildren.
 

A three-tier wedding cake with white icing, decorated with gold flowers and flanked with candles, formed the centerpiece at the table.
 

Mrs. Turnquist, nee Julia Hendrickson, was born in Greenwood, February 19, 1881, and her husband, Adolph Turnquist, was born in Sweden, June 13, 1872.  They were married by the Rev. M. E. Church at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Hendrickson June 3, 1903, in Greenwood.  They have lived in Greenwood and vicinity since their marriage. They have lived on the present farm 3 ¼ miles northeast of here for 38 years.  The farm is now operated by their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Felix.
 

They have four children, all of whom were present for the celebration.  They are Mrs. Erick (Helen ) Axelson of Chicago; Mrs. Paul (Vera) Tell of Palatine, Ill.; Mrs. Jerome (Ruth) Bertz of Loyal and Mrs. John (Verdelle) Felix of Greenwood.   They have four grandchildren - William and Paula Tell, and Douglas and Bruce Felix.
 

Mrs. Sophia Davis of Clarkston, Wash., a sister of Mrs. Turnquist, an attendant of 50 years ago, was present for the anniversary. David Gustafson, the other attendant, is deceased.
 

The Turnquists received a number of gifts, a purse of money and congratulatory messages.  They received five telegrams, one of them from Australia from Stan and Ida Brey, who are well known here.

On Sunday, May 31, 1953 Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Turnquist celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at Our Savior's Lutheran Church parlors. June 3rd was the date, but it was celebrated earlier because of guests attending.

On June 3, 1903 Adolph Turnquist and Julia Hendrickson were united in marriage at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Hendrickson by the Rev. M.E. Church. The attendants, were Sophia Hendrickson, a half-sister of Mrs. Turnquist, now Mrs. Sophia Davis of Charleston, Wash., and David Gustafson, deceased. Mrs. Davis was present at the celebration this year.

Mr. Turnquist was born in Sweden on June 13, 1872 and Mrs. Turnquist was born in Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) on Feb. 19, 1881. They have four daughters, Mrs. Erick (Helen) Axelson, Chicago; Mrs. Paul (Vera) tell, Palatine, Ill.; Mrs. Jerome (Ruth) Bertz, Loyal, and Mrs. John (Verdelle) Felix, Greenwood, and four grandchildren, William and Paula Tell and Douglas and Bruce Felix.

The Turnquists have resided in and around Greenwood since their marriage and for 28 years on the same farm northeast of here.

A dinner was served at Our Savior's Lutheran Church here. A three-tiered wedding cake with white icing and gold flowers centered the couple's table. Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Turnquist observed their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary June 3, 1958.

On June 2, 1903 Adolph Turnquist and Julia Hendrickson were united in marriage at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Hendrickson, in Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), by Rev. (??).

Mr. Turnquist was born in Sweden on June 13, 1872, and came to America when he was 19 years old. Mrs. Turnquist was born at Greenwood on February 19, 1881, and has spent all her life in this community.

They still live on the farm 3 1/2 miles northeast of Greenwood, where they have resided the past forty-six years.

They have four daughters, Mrs. Erick (Helen) Axelson, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Paul (Vera) Tell, Palatine, Ill.; Mrs. Jerome (Ruth) Bertz, Loyal; and Mrs. John (Verdelle) Felix, Greenwood. They also have five grandchildren, William and Paula Tell, and Douglas, Bruce and James Felix.

Approximately 150 relatives and friends attended the 'Open House' Saturday, June 21, 1958, to celebrate the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Turnquist at their home near Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.). Supper was served to the guests, followed by a social gathering and a late lunch.

Of the four attendants 25 years ago, those present were: Mrs. And Mrs. Art (Leona Olson) Turnquist, brother and sister of the bride and groom; Mrs. Orville (Lucille Olson) Oswald, Greenwood, sister of the bride Art Hendrickson, Greenwood and Mrs. Oril (Edna Elmer) Swieso of Tacoma, Washington, niece of the groom, were unable to attend

Carl Turnquist and Evelyn Olson, daughter of Henry Olson and the late Mrs. Henry Olson, were married June 21, 1933 in Greenwood by the late Rev. M.K. Aaberg in the Trondhjem Lutheran Church. They went to farming northeast of Greenwood.

Their four children were present for the occasion. They are: Cora Mae, a student nurse at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, and Hilda, Chester and Edward at home.

The honored couple received many gifts and congratulatory messages, including a telegram from Madison, Wis. and a phone call from Springfield, Ill.

An open house was held Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Turnquist in celebration of the 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Turnquist.

Carl Turnquist and Evelyn Olson were married June 21, 1933, by the Rev. M. K. Aaberg in Trondjhem Lutheran Church in Greenwood. Attendants present Sunday were his brother and her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Turnquist and Arthur Hendrickson, all of Greenwood. Another attendant, her sister, Mrs. Orville Oswald of Greenwood, was not present.

After their marriage the Turnquist’s farmed 4½ miles northwest of Greenwood until 1972, when they retired from farming and moved into the city of Greenwood.

The anniversary party was hosted by their four children and families, all of whom were present. They are: Mr. and Mrs. Larry (Cora) Solberg and four children of Elk Mound; Mr. and Mrs. E. Tom (Hilda) Dennison of Green Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Turnquist , on the home farm; and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Turnquist of Greenwood.

The honored couple received many gifts and congratulatory messages.           

Tuttle, Mr./Mrs. T. B. (50th Anniv. - 21 Apr. 1947)

Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Tuttle, Marshfield, former residents of this community, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, Monday.

A surprise gathering of relatives and friends observed the occasion at the home of their son, Francis.

Mr. Tuttle, a lumberman in this vicinity for the past 50 years, was born at Colby, July 28, 1872. Mrs. Tuttle was born in the town of Beaver, Aug. 21, 1880.

Prior to the time they moved to Marshfield, 16 years ago, they lived in the vicinity of Colby, Medford, and Abbotsford, Wis.

They have three children: Mrs. Hazel Casler, Neillsville; Claud B. Tuttle and Francis M. Tuttle, Marshfield. There are five grandchildren living: Betty Mae Zuege, Jack Casler, Chicago; Tom Casler, Neillsville; Bonnie Lu Barron and Lois Jane Tuttle, Marshfield. Elroy B. Tuttle, a son of Claud Tuttle, died in the service, April 15, 1945. The Tuttles have one great grand child.

Tyznik, Mr./Mrs. Nick (Gold – 6 Jul 1976)

Mr. and Mrs. Nick Tyznik, Colby, were the honored guests as they celebrated the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary at the VFW Clubhouse in Colby on July 10, 1976.

The occasion started with an afternoon dinner which was served. A reception and dance were held in the evening, with a buffet luncheon at 11.

Mr. and Mrs. Nick Tyznik were married July 6, 1926 in the state capital of St. Paul, Minnesota.

The couple resided in thorp for several years and then farmed in the Gilman area for 14 years. They moved to Chicago in 1944, where Tyznik was a tool and die setter.

In 1949 they purchased a farm west of Colby, and in 1964 he worked for Packaging Corporation in Colby until his retirement.

Tyznik enjoys gardening and has two large ponds with fish as his hobby, while his wife, Mary, enjoys housework, knitting and shopping.

Present for the celebration were their three children: Mr. and Mrs. Douglas MacGillis, Round Lake, Illinois, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tyznik and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tyznik, both of Colby.

Also present were all 11 of their grandchildren, along with many friends and relatives.

Approximately 175 friends and relatives from Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota, and the surrounding area attended the anniversary celebration.
