A dance was held at the Unity Memorial Hall in honor of the 30th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Raatz and the 3rd wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Raatz, on Saturday, September 25, 1971.

Guests came from Fargo, North Dakota, New Holstein, Marshfield, Stevens Point, Colby, Unity and West Bend. A lunch was served.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Raczykowski of Unity celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, January 30th.

An 11 o’clock Mass was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Colby and they were breakfast guests at the home of their son, Walter and family at Unity.

A 4:30 dinner was served for the family at the Colby Hotel and in the evening a reception was held at the Donald Colby Tavern.

Mr. and Mrs. Raczykowski were the parents of 12 children. Six of them are living. They are Mrs. Florence Jereczek, St. Paul; Mrs. Margaret Heintz, Chicago; Mrs. Francis Bradway, Springbrook, Wis.; and three sons, Walter, Joe Jr., and Bernard, all of Unity.

They were married in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Peru, Illinois.

Both are in good health and have lived in Unity for the past ten years.

An old-fashioned charivari was one of the highlights of the celebration given for Mr. and Mrs. Fred Raeck of route 1, Unity, to honor them on their golden wedding anniversary Saturday and Sunday.

Following the charivari, a dance was held at the Attwood Hall, then an open house party which continued until Sunday when lunch was served to the guests.

Fred Raeck was born at Two Rivers, March 19, 1886. He married the former Martha Oestrich of Shoto on August 25, 1909 in Colby. She was born January 5, 1889. Attendants at the wedding were Herman Hardrath and Mabel Raeck who are surviving, and Henry Hardrath and Tillie Garceau who are deceased.

The Raecks have three children, Harlan of Owen, Mrs. Ben (Ida) Bukachek of Hamel, Minn., and Mrs. Walter (Anna) Ruether of Reedsville, all of whom were present. They have three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Raeck has now retired from farming and has gardening as a hobby. On the eve of his golden anniversary he recalled that 50 years ago he drove to Colby to be married in a buggy pulled by a one-eyed horse named Puss.

Guests who signed the gold-colored silk anniversary book were from Riplinger, Loyal, Owen, Unity, Colby, Abbotsford, Spencer, Curtiss, and Milwaukee.

Coming from Manitowoc and Two Rivers were Richard Gauthier, William Schramm, Edmund Garceau, Andrew Tadych, Roger Garceau, Elmer Bastain, and Mrs. Bernard Schramm.

Relatives helped Mr. and Mrs. Emery Rahm celebrate their first wedding anniversary. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. William Rahm and Dick, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hanson and son, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ayer of Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Wolk, Mr. and Mrs. Al Beyerl and family and Mrs. Rosa Sachse of Colby, Wis.

Mr. & Mrs. Peter Rand were honor guests at a party given Saturday night at the Fremont Town Hall, on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Rand who was born in Denmark, came to America in 1906. Mrs. Rand was born in Hampshire, Ill.

Miss Mabel Bayer and Peter Rand were married Aug. 25, 1915, at the Bayer home at Hampshire, Ill. The Rev. Mr. Hoffer officiated. Their attendants were Mr. and Mrs. John Wimpelberg, now of Elgin, Ill.

For nine years after their marriage the Rands lived on a farm in Illinois. They came in 1924 to the Town of Fremont in Clark County and now own a farm in the northeastern part of town. Mr. Rand is president of the Chili Cooperative Milk Pool.

Mr. and Mrs. Rand have two daughters: Laura, who is Mrs. Steve Kapicak of Chicago, and Harriet, now Mrs. Thomas Bayles of Cleveland, Ohio, and one son, Milton Rand of Marshfield.

At the celebration a mock wedding was performed. Mrs. Rand wore the same gown she wore at her wedding 25 years ago--beige lace over satin, and she carried an arm bouquet of garden flowers. The same bridesmaid and best man who attended them in 1915 acted as attendants at the mock ceremony. Gloria Bayer of Chicago was the flower girl, and E. W. Lee read the mock marriage service.

The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing. Mr.and Mrs. Rand received monetary gift from their friends, and 38 silver dollars from their relatives in Chicago and Elgin.

Among those from away who attended the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. John Wimpelberg and two daughters, Elgin, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. George Bayer, daughters Gloria and Arlene and son, Roger, Mrs. and Mrs. Steve Kapicak and Mrs. Margaret Bayer, all of (rest of copy cut off).

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rand, Clark County residents for over half a century will observe their 60th wedding anniversary Saturday, August 30, with an open house from 2-5 p.m. at their home in Neillsville.

Peter Rand and the former Mabel Bayer were married August 25, 1915, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Bayer, in Hampshire, Il. Attendants were her sister, Elizabeth, and Elizabeth’s fiancé, John Wimpleberg. Elizabeth and John were married shortly thereafter.

Mr. and Mrs. Rand moved to Clark County from Illinois 52 years ago and farmed in the Chili area for a number of years. Their son, Milton (Bud) took over operation of the family farm from them. He and his family have now moved to Chili.

The Rands have lived in their present home on West Fifth St. in Neillsville for the past 21 years. They are members of Calvary Lutheran Church. Both are in reasonably good health. Mrs. Rand marked the actual anniversary date Monday by washing clothes and canning pickles.

Their children, in addition to their son, Bud, are Mrs. Steve (Laura) Kapicak of Northbrook, Il., and Mrs. Harriet Ricci of LaGrange, Il. There are 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Most members of the immediate family expect to be present for the open house observance.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rand observed their 60th wedding anniversary Saturday with an open house at their home in Neillsville. The Rands, who have lived in Clark County for over 50 years, were married August 25, 1915, in Hampshire, Il. They have three children, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Their wedding portrait can be seen on the china cabinet to their left.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Rannow, Colby celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 2 at an open house at the Colby city hall, followed by a dinner for relatives and close friends.

An anniversary cake, in the form of the number 50, was baked by Mrs. William Mueller, a sister of Mrs. Rannow.

Grand children of the couple presented Mrs. Rannow with a corsage of gold mums, and Mr. Rannow with a boutonniere of yellow carnations.  Miss Barbara Rannow, the oldest grand daughter, was in charge of the guest book.

Among those present were all the Rannow children; Mrs. Clifford (Leona) Rosinski of Hales Corners, and Arnold and Howard, both of Colby; 12 grand children, members of the Zion Lutheran congregation at Colby and many guests from Milwaukee, Hales Corners, Eau Claire, Ashland, Washburn, Medford, Abbotsford, Colby, Spencer, Unity, and Marshfield.

Mr. and Mrs. Rannow were married March 30, 1916, at Bell Lake, Minn.

Mr. Rannow was born and educated in Renville county, Minn. Mrs. Rannow, the former Clara Baumgarten, was born in Sibley county, Minn.

Following their marriage, the couple farmed in Minnesota until 1922 when they moved to Stetsonville, Wis., where Mr. Rannow had a harness and shoe shop.  They moved to Colby in 1928 and operated the Colby Café for five years.  They then returned to farming until 12 years ago, when Mr. Rannow began working for his sons at Rannow Cabinet and Supply in Colby.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rasmussen entertained at a family gathering Sunday at their home in celebration of the twenty-fifth or silver wedding anniversary. They were married on March 2, 1912, at Coleman, Wis., and came here shortly after their marriage. Mr. Rasmussen conducted the Roselawn cheese factory south of Cherokee for many years before moving to Colby. Among out of town relatives here for the occasion were Mrs. John Kamps and Mrs. Ray Remington of Marinette, Mrs. Herman Kamka and Delores and Orville Kamka of Pestigo and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Scheapska of Clintonville.

A memorable event was the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Ratsch celebrating Sunday afternoon Nov. 22 at their home.

The Rev. Wm. Baumann of St. John’s Lutheran church conducted the service of Thanksgiving. The friends and relatives joined in the singing of the hymns: "Now Thank We All Our God", and "The Lord Hath Helped Me Hitherto", a solo "Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah", was rendered by Mrs. Baumann.

After the celebrating the couple joined their right hands and received the divine benediction, the children presented them with a silver memorial wreath with the inscription, "Hitherto hath the Lord helped us". It was indeed a happy day.

Herman Ratsch and Emma Nowek were married on Nov. 22, 1911 by the Rev. A. Glerke pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Niagara, North Dakota.

This union was blessed with the following children, Marie, Edna, Anita, Louella, Harold, Clarence and Robert, all being present for the occasion.

At five o’clock a dinner was served to friends and relatives present.

Rauha, John, Mr./Mrs. (50th - 25 JUL 1950)

Mr. and Mrs. John Rauha, Sr., enjoyed the company of their numerous friends and relatives in observance of their Golden Wedding on Sunday, July 23rd, 1950.

A dinner was served at noon Sunday at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Einar Laakso, where relatives and close friends had gathered to honor the couple.

In the afternoon they joined their friends at the Bethany Lutheran Church where a program had been arranged by Pastor and Mrs. Puotinen. Pastor Puotinen gave an inspiring talk on the marriage vows, and Hjalmer Heikkinen, a lifelong friend and neighbor told of their history and the companionship the two families have enjoyed. Mrs. Puotinen sang a beautiful solo, and accompanied a trio of ladies, Mrs. Hjalmer Heikkinen, Mrs. William Kangas, and Mrs. Frank Luoma, as they sang.

After the program the group assembled for a luncheon in the church parlors. The tables were trimmed with gold streamers, and bouquets of assorted yellow flowers decorated the tables. There were also bouquets of roses, dahlias and gladiolas. On a special table was a three-tier wedding cake attractively decorated in gold, and served to all the guests.

One of the most enjoyable moments of the afternoon occurred when a congratulatory telegram arrived from Mr. Rauha’s brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jones Rauha of Brooklyn, New York. They were unable to join the family for this memorable occasion.

The honorary couple were appreciative participants of gifts, including a radio from the relatives, gifts of money from their friends, plus numerous cards.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Rauha were born in Finland and came to America on the same ship in Dec. 1899. They were married in Ishpeming, Michigan on July 25, 1900 by Pastor Charles Tolonen and established their first residence in Negaunee near Ishpeming. The couple were one of the early settlers in Hoard Township, arriving there on a farm northeast of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) on May 1, 1912, from Michigan. In May 1948 they sold this farm to their son, John, Jr., and moved to the north end of the village of Withee, which is their present home. They are members of the Bethany Lutheran Church, of which they were charter members.

Of their four children, two are living: Mrs. Einar Laakso of Owen, and John Rauha, Jr., of Hoard. Two daughters, Mrs. Emil Aho, and Mrs. Alex Halme, are deceased. Mr. Rauha has four brothers in Finland. They have seven grandchildren; Dr. Toiyo Aho and Irene Halme of Waukegan, Ill., Mrs. Elmer Laakso of Portage, Wis., Wilho Halme of Berlin, Germany, and Arthur, Audrey and Oscar Laakso of Owen. They also have three great-grandchildren.

Out of town guests included Dr. Toiyo Aho, Emil Aho, and Irene Halme of Waukegan, Ill., Mrs. Elmer Laakso and children of Portage, Wis., and Mr. and Mrs. William Kangas and daughter of Phillips, Wis.

Redmond, Mr./Mrs. George (Gold Anniv - 16 May 1916)

On May 16th, 1916, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. K. Redmond completed the fiftieth year of their married life. Plans had been laid by their friends to help them celebrate the occasion. In the afternoon a delegation of their near neighbors came in with congratulations and some more substantial offerings and later the dray brought a fine rocker, as a present from the officers in the court house, and a flower stand from J.B. Lowe. In the evening the bride and groom were called up to the G.A.R. Hall and W.R.C., who in a body, marched around the hall with them to the alter, where Mrs. Geo. Beardsley, past Pres., presented each of them with a gold recognition pin, which was accepted with appropriate words of thanks. After a musical program, a fine lunch was served, and as a proper wind up, came a grand charivari by the ladies of the W.R.C., headed by such spry young ladies as Mdse. King, Beardsley, Wells, Bliss and Kearney, and all seemed to enjoy it heartily.

Mr. and Mrs. Redmond were married at Hudson, Wis. in 1866. Both were brought up in the state of Maine. Mr. Redmond enlisted in 1862 and served through the Civil War. In 1865 Mrs. Redmond, then Miss Etta Savage, came to Hudson to teach school, and soon after Mr. Redmond came west and they were married the next spring. In 1869 they came to Clark County, buying Fox River land in York, Mr. Redmond working in the lumber camps and his wife teaching school until the land was paid for. In 1888 they sold the farm and moved to Neillsville. Mr. Redmond went west to secure work in saw mills for a few years and his wife taught country schools to help get the children through high school, and the younger boy graduated at Delavan. The oldest son is dead. The two others are in Racine, Leo, being employed in a large electrical supply factory, and Walter, who is a printer, in the Racine Journal.

Until recently, Mr. Redmond has been an active worker, but age and his old army injuries have of late kept him from hard work. Mrs. Redmond still attends to her household duties, besides taking an active part and great interest in many public affairs. They both bid fair to continue many years together along life’s pathway. That this may be the case is the wish of their many friends. Mr. and Mrs. Redmond wish to express their appreciation and thanks for the kin interest of their friends, as shown on the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding.

Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. George Redmond celebrated their golden wedding and their neighbors and friends and fraternal orders to which they belonged remembered the day and assisted in various ways to make it one of pleasantness and kindly feeling long to be remembered. The day was really one of “open house” for Mr. and Mrs. Redmond until late at night and they received many expressions of the kindly esteem in which they are held by the entire community. Leo Redmond and wife were here from Racine to help them celebrate the event.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold E. Reeves of Abbotsford (Clark Co., Wis.) recently celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at a dinner for their family at the Medo Farms Restaurant, and a reception at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Neva Harry of Colby. The hosts for the event were their two sons, Gerry of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Ronald of Madison.

Mr. and Mrs. (the former Rose Hoppe) Reeves were married June 1, 1921 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Milan. Rev. William Muehlenkemp performed the ceremony. The maid of honor, Mrs. Neva Harry, sister of Mr. Reeves, and the best man, George Hoppe, Mrs. Reeves' brother, were present for the anniversary celebration.

Reeves was a barber by trade, and the couple have spent most of their lives in the Abbotsford and Colby area. They are members of St. Bernard's Catholic Church.

In addition to their two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Reeves have four grandchildren, Gary, Christopher, Mary and Ellen Reeves.

Reiff, Rev. & Mrs. (10th - 5 AUG 1913)

Rev. and Mrs. Reiff had been married just ten years last Tuesday and a large company of their friends and parishioners decided to give them a surprise party Tuesday evening, and the decision was carried out just as planned.  It resulted in a very pleasant social affair for all concerned.

REIL ANNIVERSARY-COUPLE WED 50 YEARS

Mr. and Mrs. Ben (Edith) Reil of 1552 Brooks Lane, Oshkosh, formerly of the Abbotsford and Colby areas, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with open house for family and friends from 2-4 p.m. Sept. 11.

Ben Riel, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Reil of Abbotsford, and Edith Olson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Olson, Colby, were married Sept. 12, 1933 in Zion Lutheran parsonage in Colby. Their only attendants were Helen Behrens and Clifford Leibelt.

Reil owned and operated Riel Electric for 30 years, retiring in 1973. Mrs. Reil worked for 25 years for American Excelsior Co. and at the Winnebago County Department of Social Services until her retirement in 1981. 

Reis, Mr./Mrs. Joseph (50th Anniv. - 3 Sept. 1944)

The golden wedding celebration for Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Reis began with a high mass at 8:30, celebrated by the Rev. Raymond Schultz in St. John’s Catholic church at Wuerzburg, Sunday.

The 50th anniversary of their marriage, which took place Oct. 28, was celebrated at this time for the convenience of the many relatives who could be present over the Labor Day holiday.

Mr. and Mrs. Reis were attended by their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Reis, Bakerville, and son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Calmes, Dorchester. Mrs. Reis wore a black crepe dress and gold and white corsage and her two attendants wore red and white corsages. All three men wore gold chrysanthemums. A reception and dinner and supper at the church parlors followed the church ceremony.

The Rev. Schultz, who acted as toastmaster at the dinner, gave a very inspiring talk on the life of this honored and privileged couple. Both have served as officers of the congregation. Mrs. Reis has served, not only as an officer of the ladies’ aid, but has been a faithful worker in the church affairs generally. Mr. Reis has also served for a number of years as chairman of the town board of the town of Johnson. Both are 74 years old.

Miss Julia Kochan and Joseph Reis were united in marriage at Reefs Mills, Manitowoc county, Oct. 28, 1894. About a year later they came to Wuerzburg and settled in the wilderness. Mr. Reis remembers such incidents as walking to Marathon City and carrying home a sack of flour on his back. Mrs. Reis is the fourth member of the Kochan family to be privileged to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Reis have two children, Ervin Reis and Mrs. George Calmes.

The afternoon and evening were spent playing cards and talking over old times.

Mrs. Oscar Bartsch entertained at dinner Sunday in honor of the golden wedding of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Renne. Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Al Habig and three children and Mr. and Mrs. Everett Renne of Kenosha, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Bandt, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Sontag, Oscar Bartsch, Evelyn Bartsch, Carl Renne, and Lizzie Muir, the latter two were the attending couple at the wedding 50 years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Adam Beyer of Colby observed their fiftieth or golden wedding anniversary at their home last Thursday, Sept. 10, having been married Sept. 10, 1881, in the town of Wilson, Sheboygan county. They came to this community a few days after their marriage and purchased a homestead near Cherokee from Peter Boecher, a Civil War veteran. The farm, at that time, was all wood land and Mr. Reyer chopped down the first tree. Most of the timber, chopped down to clear the land, was burned as there was no sale for it in those days. They came to town by the use of oxen and "jumpers", for, if a wagon would be used, it was very apt to tip over as the roads were bad. They were on the farm for nearly fifteen years before horses were purchased. At first, they had but one cow, but, gradually, a fine herd and a splendid farm were built.

Mr. Reyer takes great pride in the education he has given his children and issues a challenge to all early settlers in Marathon county, who came here when this was a vast wilderness, to duplicate the education he has provided them. Eight children went through high school, five through university and two through normal.

Mr. Reyer was born in Hessen, Germany, June 5, 1852, and came to the United States with his parents when three years old, settling in the town of Wilson, Sheboygan county, where he resided until twenty-one years of age when he went to Illinois where he worked for four years. He also spent four years in Upper Michigan.

Mrs. Reyer, whose maiden name was Miss Emma Reich, was born on March 7, 1860, in the town of Wilson, Sheboygan county, and was married to Mr. Reyer in the town in which she was born and then lived on the homestead they purchased for thirty-one years. Eleven years ago, they moved into the city of Colby.

They had eleven children, one of whom, Olive, died several years ago. Those still living are William and Hugo, New York City; Otis and Edward, Columbus, Ohio; Harold, Miss Madeline Reyer and Mrs. Fred M. Distlehorst, Madison, Wisconsin; Mrs. Henry Oncken, Bellingham, Minnesota; Carl, Cherokee; Richard, Colby.

No celebration was held in honor of their fiftieth anniversary because the children are so widely scattered and most of them were here this summer on vacation.

Saturday, Oct. 9th, 1953 will always remain as a happy and memorable day in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Riber, route 1, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), as they were joined with a large host of friends and relatives in the observance of their 50th wedding anniversary.

A family dinner and open house highlighted the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ridderbusch, which was observed Saturday, July 20, 1972.

Children and grandchildren of the honor couple, and their attendants, Mrs. Earl (Velda) Rundle, Wausau, sister of Fred Ridderbusch, and Alvin Neidhold, Weyauwega, brother of Mrs. Ridderbusch, were present at the noon dinner at the Colby Hotel. The open house was held at the Abbotsford City Hall.

The former Viola Neidhold were married November 30, 1922 at the bride’s home by Rev. Walter Piehler. The couple farmed in the Town of Holton from 1922 to 1957, where Ridderbusch served 10 years as assessor before moving to their present home at 430 Spruce Street, in Abbotsford. He served as assessor in Abbotsford for two years.

Ridderbusch was born July 12, 1894 at Birnamwood, Wis., spent one year in France during World War I, a year in Germany while he was in the Army in 1918, and was a First Lieutenant in the Wisconsin National Guard for 13 years.

Mr. Ridderbusch has been active in the Abbotsford Sportsman Club for many years. He served as secretary for the club and promoted and helped build the Abbotsford Sportsman’s Dame.

He is presently enjoying fair health and for recreation plays cards and watches television.

Mrs. Ridderbusch, born April 30, 1897, is also in fair health, does gardening and spends time reading. The couple are members of the Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford.

For the occasion, Mrs. Ridderbusch was present with a corsage of yellow roses and her husband a yellow rose boutonniere.

All the children were present for the celebration. They are: Mrs. Ralph (Joyce) Libsack of Bremerton, Washington; Dale Ridderbusch, Abbotsford; Roy Ridderbusch of Seattle and Neal Ridderbusch of Milwaukee.

Out of town guests attending the anniversary celebration were from Chicago, Milwaukee, Weyauwega, Wausau and the state of Washington.

Last Sunday was a day of great festivities at the Henry Riedel home, it being their 10th wedding anniversary.  A large number of their friends were invited to enjoy the event.  Many presents were received and the evening was spent in dancing in the granary, which had been prepared for the event.  Ed and Walter Breseman furnished the music with violin and guitar.

Robert Rieder, of Interlaken, and Miss Emma Zeller, of Boltigen, Bern, were two of the young Swiss people who had joined that migration of folks from the land of the Alps during the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, to find a new home in the promised land, America. They settled with friends and relatives from the homeland, in that renowned colony about New Glarus.

There were many other young people in that group, so many that on one day alone, April 24, 1884, the pastor of the Reformed Church, the Rev. J. G. Etter, was kept busy at his parsonage repeating the marriage ceremony. Mr. Rieder and Miss Zeller were one of the five happy young couples made happier that day when the good minister joined hearts and hands for life’s journey.

Fifty years have slipped away, and Mr. and Mrs. Rieder, happy, healthy, and endowed with a goodly portion of worldly goods, have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, probably the only couple of the five blessed with that event.

The wedding day in 1884, was celebrated by a community ball, followed by a banquet, and then the newly weds established their new homes. Mr. and Mrs. Rieder lived at New Glarus and vicinity until 1909, when they came to Humbird, and located on a fine farm west of town. In 1923, they surrendered the farm and purchased the home in the village. And at this home Tuesday, the members of the family, children and grandchildren, twenty-four in number, gathered to celebrate. The family, all of whom live in the village and vicinity, are Robert, Jr., Ernest, Herman, Mrs. Edwin Bleiler, and Mrs. Louis Laffe. Two little girls were note spared to grow to womanhood.

Mr. and Mrs. Rieder are happy in the congratulations and best wishes of a host of friends here and elsewhere on their half century of wedded life. May they enjoy many more anniversaries is our wish.

Mr. and Mrs. William Rittenhouse, former residents of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), now living at 2797 Pioneer Drive, Salem, Ore., celebrated their golden wedding anniversary March 5, 1949.

They held open house Saturday afternoon and evening and Sunday afternoon for friends.

Many gifts and flowers were received.

Mr. and Mrs. Rittenhouse were married March 5, 1899, in Ontario, Wis. They moved to Withee in 1914 and lived there for 30 years, and moved to Salem, Oregon five years ago.

There are nine children in their family, four sons and five daughters, as follows: Mrs. Anthony (Fannie) Guadnala of Los Angeles; (Freda) Mrs. Ernest Columbus of Salem, Ore.; (Beatrice) Mrs. Albert Berchem of Santa Ana, Calif.; Maurice Rittenhouse of Salem Ore.; (Vera) Mrs. Wilmer Gilman of Salem, Ore.; John D. Rittenhouse, Owen; (Audrey) Mrs. John Orlando of St. Paul, Minn.; Earl Rittenhouse, Salem, Ore.; Wesley Rittenhouse, Salem, Ore. There are also 12 grandchildren in the family group.

Mrs. Rittenhouse has been very ill the past year and she would like to hear from her friends.

Mr. Rittenhouse caught a nice mess of German Brown Trout out of the hole in less than an hour and a half recently. There were two twenty inch, two eighteen inch, two sixteen and two fourteen inch, one twelve inch and one granddaddy of them all, a twenty eight inch fish that weighed about ten pounds.

Their sixty-fourth wedding anniversary was observed a week ago Tuesday by Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Robb. Mr. Robb was 87 on Washington’s birthday and Mrs. Robb is 85. Mr. Robb, who is a Civil War veteran, say that he has needed the services of a physician only once in his life.

Joseph Robinson and Euphemia Clark were united in marriage on Oct. 19, 1898 by Justice Geo. Beaumont at Stanley, Wis.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Roehl of Chili observed their Silver wedding anniversary last Friday at a dinner at the Village Plaza, in Spencer. Following the dinner, the guests, their wedding attendants and close members of the family spent the afternoon at the honored couple’s home on Rt. 1 Chili. A buffet supper was served.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin (Evelyn) Roehl, Spencer, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Sunday, June 23 at the Sportsmen’s Club, Granton. The afternoon was spent socially, including a light-hearted commentary by Evelyn’s brother, Elmer Sanger, followed by a buffet for approximately 160 people.

Alvin was born May 6, 1913, at Chili to Mr. and Mrs. (Clara) Roehl. As a young man, he worked on several farms before buying a farm southwest of Chili where they farmed for many years. Evelyn was born March 11, 1924, in the Town of Fremont to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest (Emma) Sanger. She graduated from Central State Teachers College, Stevns Point and taught one year in a rural school near Loyal before marrying.

They were married June 19, 1945, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Town of Fremont, Clark County with the Rev. Edgar Milleville officiating.

Later, Evelyn resumed teaching and received her B.S. degree from the Wisconsin State University-Stevens Point. She taught elementary grades for 22 years in the Lone Elm, Nasonville and Loyal Public Schools, retiring in 1979. Alvin began working for Berg Manufacturing Company in 1967 from which he retired in 1978.

They have lived at Spencer since 1975, but have remained members of Christ Lutheran Church, Chili.

The couple has four children: Mrs. David (Sharlyn) Pullmann of McLean, Virginia; Mrs. Duane (Marlene) Broeske of rural Abbotsford; Lavern Roehl of rural Spencer; Mrs. Leonard (Bernette) Allemann of Abbotsford. They also have seven grandchildren.

All of the attendants from the original ceremony were present for the Ruby event. They are Mildred Faber of Granton, Leo Roehl of Chili, and Gerald and Lila Nelson of Spencer.

Mr. and Mrs. Leo Roehl of Rt. 1 Chili, observed their 25th wedding anniversary on Saturday June 17, with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. in the dining hall of Christ Lutheran Church.

The Roehl’s were married April 19, 1947, at Christ Lutheran Church by the Rev. William Lauterbach. Honor attendants were Esther Grottke (now Mrs. Harry Morphey) and Clifford Roehl. Delores Peterson (now Mrs. Stanley Madler) was the bridesmaid and Claire Schlinsog was the groomsman. Ushers were Stanley Madler and Gerald Nelson. Only Mr. Schlinsog was unable to be present for the anniversary observance.

Mr. and Mrs. Roehl, who are members of Christ Lutheran Church, are the parents of three children, a son, Elroy and twins Cheryl and Darrel, all at home.

Guests at a dinner preceding the open house were her father, Edwin Grobe, and his mother, Mrs. Clara Roehl, both of Chili, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Roehl and family of Neillsville, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Morphey and family and Mrs. Martha Grottke of Stillman Valley, Il, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Madler of Marshfield, the Rev. and Mrs. Roland Roehrs and family of Granton, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fischer of Wheaton, Il, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Nelson of Spencer and Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Meisner of Milwaukee.

A program presented during the open house was planned for the couple by Mrs. Henry Grottke, Jr., and Mrs. Norman Faber. The Rev. Roland Roehrs began the presentation with a prayer. Short narrative selections were read by Mrs. Verne Mortvedt and Mrs. Roy Jennings. Vocalists were Harold Schlinsog, Mrs. Emily Winstead and Mrs. Grottke and Mrs. Faber. Mrs. Helen Dix played accordion selections and presented an accompanying narration. Instrumental numbers were played by Kimberly Morphey of Stillman Valley, Il, Hony Searls and Connie Faber.

A song written especially for the Roehl’s anniversary was entitled “That Special Day.”

Guests at the open house came from Flint, Mi, Portland, Or, Huron, S. D., Des Moines, Ia, Holcomb, Il, St. Paul, Mn, Stillman Valley, Il, Wheaton, Il, Three Lakes, Milwaukee, Eau Claire, Altoona, Wisconsin Rapids, Oshkosh, Birnamwood, Spencer, Marshfield, Granton, Neillsville and Chili.

Family members were guests later for a supper and social evening at the Roehl home, where music was provided by Mrs. Wallace Garbisch. The Roehl’s, also entertained relatives for a Sunday dinner.

Mrs. Roehl invited members of the Goldenrod Homemakers Club, of which she is a past president, to her home Monday afternoon for an ”Odds and Ends” party. Lunch was served, odds and ends of nutcups, napkins, etc. were utilized and guests had the opportunity to see the many cards and gifts received by the Roehl’s. Club members present were Becky Mueller, Annabelle Jennings, Gladys Teter, Elaine Booth, Lilly Schlinsog, Mary Lindow, Helen Dix and Jeanne Mortvedt.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Roewe, Colby, observed the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage Saturday, May 11, 1968. At their farm home west of Colby (Clark Co., Wis.).

Charles Roewe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Roewe, was born June 8, 1892 at Oconto, Wis., and his wife, formerly Norma Miller, was born December 7, 1898, to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller in Manitowoc County.

The couple was united in marriage on May 11, 1918, in the Lutheran church at Oconto, with Rev. Isenbach officiating at the ceremony. Their attendants were the groom's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Roewe, Oconto.

Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Wausau for eight years, where they were chief cooks for various lumber camps and road crews. From this work they moved to their present location, three miles west of Colby, and have farmed there for 42 years. They are parents of one son, Vilas, at home.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Roewe are in fair health and his hobby has always been cooking. Her hobbies include baking, sewing and needlework.

On Sunday they drove to Crandon to visit her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Streckert, and other relatives and friends.

Approximately 275 relatives, neighbors and other friends gathered at the Gilbert Rohde home Sunday in Eaton Center to help them celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.  Their neighbors, Carole, Kristine, Beatrice and Helen Noeldner, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Noeldner, entertained during the afternoon and evening with singing, and Carole also presided at the organ. Neighbors put on a mock, humorous wedding.

Mr. and Mrs. Rohde were married in West Side Reformed Church in the Town of Warner.  They have four sons and a daughter, all of whom were home for the day.  They include: Gary, Dick, Allen, Gilbert, Jr., and LeAnn.  Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nork of Redfield, S. D., were weekend house guests.

Two hundred friends gathered at the Rohde home in the afternoon and 60 in the evening.  They came from Chippewa Falls, Neillsville, Loyal, Ellsworth, Ridgeland, Prescott, Abbotsford, Colby, Marshfield, Greenwood and Withee.

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Rondorf was ob served at St. Anthony’s Catholic church on Sunday, Sept. 1.

Dinner and supper were served to about 70 persons in St. Anthony’s church basement. Acake , donated by the grandchildren, was cut at supper by Mrs. Rondorf. The only great-granddaughter, Genevieve Rondorf, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Rondorf, gave a beautiful bouquet of roses for the occasion.

Married by the Rev. John Meyer at St. Mary’s Ridge in Monroe county, on Sept 1, 1896. Mr. and Mrs. Rondorf moved to the town of York, then a wilderness, on Sept. 10, of the same year. They came to the village of Loyal eight years ago.

Six children blessed this union. They are: William and Nora of Marshfield, Frank of  Hoven, S. D., Joe and Alfred of Greenwood, and Marie, deceased. There are also 27 grandchildren, 22 of whom are still living and there is one great-grandchild.

The home of Mrs. George Buffington, route 4, Marshfield, was the setting on Sunday, Sept. 2, 1951, for the celebration of the 55th wedding anniversary of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Rondorf, Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.), pioneer residents of the Town of York Clark Co.

All of their children, Frank, Hoven, S.D.; Joe and Al, Greenwood, and William and Mrs. Buffington, Marshfield, together with their families, were present for the occasion.  There are 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  The Rondorfs and their guests all attended a High Mass at 9 o’clock in St. Anthony’s Church in Loyal, with the Rev. Norbert King officiating.

Highlighting the celebration was a dinner at noon with 56 guests present.

Mr. and Mrs. Rondorf were married Sept. 1, 1896, in St. Mary’s Ridge Catholic Church near Cashton.  They have made their home in Loyal for the past 10 years.  Prior to that time they resided on a farm in the Town of York for over 40 years.

Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Rosemeyer of Stanley, former residents of the town of Taft, celebrated their 50th anniversary on September 8. The former Ida Buddin and Raymond Rosemeyer were married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Sinsinawa, Wis.

A mass of thanksgiving was said at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Stanley, followed by a dinner at the Stanley Hotel Coffee Shop.

A reception in the afternoon was held at the Justin Rosemeyer home in Thorp. Friends and relatives attended from Thorp, Stanley, Gilman, Eau Claire, Minneapolis, Cuba City, Wis., East Dubuque, Ill. and Dubuque, Iowa.

The 62nd wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph C. Rosolack, who reside one mile south of Humbird in the Town of Mentor, was quietly observed at their home last week.

Adolph Rosolack, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rosolack, of Milwaukee was married June 21, 1899, to Wilhelmina Duerkop, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Duerkop of Alma. The wedding was performed in the log cabin home of the bride’s parents.  They made their home after marriage at Smith Coulee near La Crosse until 1901 and also lived in Fairchild, and Garden Valley in Jackson County.

In 1925, Mr. and Mrs. Rosolack moved to their present home in the Town of Mentor, Clark County.  Their original purchase was for five acres of land which they have now reduced to 2 ½ acres. Mrs. Rosolack was born September 10, 1878, and he was born November 19, 1877.  They have remained in good health through the years and both love flowers and gardening.

At 82 and 83 years of age, both pick strawberries, take care of their yard and flowers.  Oriental poppies, columbine, and many other annuals and perennial flowers are now blossoming around the door of their home and just outside of their windows.  It is a quaint and lovely place to see.

The 35th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rossow was celebrated Sunday at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. David Friske. Edward Rossow and Lillian Kuester were married October 29, 1939, at Loyal. They have resided in this area ever since. On Tuesday the Rossow’s moved into their new home north of Greenwood. They have three children: Danny Rossow and Mrs. Jack (Nancy) Weber both of Round Lake Beach, Il.; and Mrs. David (Peggy) Friske of Greenwood.

Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Dyre of Greenwood were the attendants and were present for the occasion. They as well as the honored couple wore corsages.

Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) - Mr. and Mrs. William Rossow celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Tuesday at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Ystad. Approximately 150 relatives and friends were present for dinner and supper and to spend the evening.

A large three-tiered wedding cake decorated in gold and white and topped by a miniature bride and groom formed the centerpiece at the dinner table.

Mr. Rossow, son of the late Frederick and Augusta Rossow, was born in Germany on July 8, 1874. He came to America with his parents in 1882, settling on a farm in the Town of Beaver.

Mrs. Rossow, the former Miss Anna Ehlert, daughter of Karl and Fredericka Ehlert, was born in Germany on Sept. 7, 1880, and came with her parents to America when she was a few months of age. They came to the Loyal community to make their home. They were married on June 7, 1899, by the Rev. Mr. Ruel in the Lutheran Church in Loyal. After their marriage they settled on a farm in the Town of Warner, and have resided there ever since.

Four children were born to the Rossows, two of them died in infancy. The surviving children are Ervin Rossow, on the home farm, and Mrs. Olaf (Elsie) Ystad, and one grandchild, Milton Ystad.

More than 100 relatives and friends shared in observance of the 25th wedding anniversary celebrated by Mr. and Mrs. Byrl Rowe, city (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.), when they welcomed guests at their home on Sunday, Aug. 25th at an open house from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Relatives were entertained at a smorgasbord dinner at the Woodland Hotel at 5:30.

Mr. Rowe was born in Milwaukee and moved to Clark County with his parents when he was five years old.  He received his grade school education in the Town of York graduated from the Granton High School and attended Neillsville Teacher’s Training School.  He attended La Crosse State College one year and two years at Wis. State College at Stevens Point, where he received his Bachelor of Education degree.  This summer he attended summer school at Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Ind.  Mr. Rowe teaches math at the Owen-Withee Jr. High School.

Mr. and Mrs. Rowe were married Aug. 21, 1938 in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at Granton, with Rev. H.H. Luesch officiating.  Two of the attendants were present for the occasion, Mrs. Ralph Carrell of South Milwaukee, and Gerald Rowe of Chippewa Falls.

Mr. and Mrs. Rowe are the parents of four children, Nancy, William, Edward and Larry.

A surprise 40th Wedding Anniversary open house was held by the children of Mr. and Mrs. Byrle Rowe on Sunday, August 20, 1978 at the Meadoview Country Club. A noon dinner was held at the club for relatives with an afternoon reception buffet for relatives and friends. Over a hundred attended the open house.

Mr. and Mrs. Byrle Rowe were married on August 21, 1938 at the Zion Lutheran Church at Granton, with Pastor Leasch performing the ceremony. Attending the couple were Mrs. Julie Carroll and Gerald Rowe, who were their attendants.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rucks, owen, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house and dance, hosted by their children at the V.F. W. Club, Colby, Saturday evening, October 23, 1976.

They were presented with a money tree from their 26 grandchildren and a floral centerpiece from their 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Rucks has a corsage of white carnations and bittersweet tinted roses, and her husband a boutonniere of a white carnation and a bittersweet tinted rose. Mrs. Esther (Erdmann) Fakes, Colby, on of the 1926 weeding attendants, was present, along with approximately 250 friends and relatives from neighboring towns, and as far away as Lomira, Appleton, Madison, Wauwatosa and North Dakota.

Their marriage took place October 28, 1926 in Zion Lutheran Church, Colby, by Rev. Kirkoefer. Marie E. Schneider, daughter of the late Gustave and Lena Schneider, was born at Morris Minnesota on September 14, 1910. Edward G. Rucks was born on October 26, 1902 at Marshfield, to the late Paul and Lizzie Rucks. They farmed in the Colby area and he drove truck for the White House Milk Co. until 1952, and then moved to a farm near Curtiss, and both worked at the Clark County Hospital until retiring in 1971. They moved into their present rural Owen home in 1966. Both are in fair health and he enjoys gardening and fishing. Her hobbies are knitting, crotcheting and rug making.

The couple’s six living children are: Mrs. James (Margaret) Firnstahl, Colby, Mrs. Edward (Dorothy) Voge, Owen, Mrs. Harvey (Evelyn) Woodward, Merrill, Mrs. Albert (Ruby) Lueth, Dorchester, Mrs. Norman (Joanne) Johnson, Stanley, and John of Mosinee. Another son, Ralph, died in 1968.

George and Elaine Rueden, Spencer, formerly of Abbotsford, celebrated 60 years of marriage on Aug. 28 at Spencer Community Hall. The event was organized by their children with music by Duane Seefeld. 

The couple was married at St. John’s Catholic in Wuertzburg, with Fr. Mueller presiding. 

Attendants at the wedding were Bennie and Joyce Olson, Wausau, cousins of the bride.

George worked as a salesman for Berg Equipment in Marshfield and then he and Elaine operated the Coast to Coast store in Abbotsford for 26 years. 

Elaine (nee: Schaefer) was treasurer for the town of Holton for 16 years and worked as a carrier for the Marshfield News-Herald for 20 years.

The couple lived in Abbotsford for most of their married life until retirement, when they moved to Spencer. 

They retired in 2000, but still babysit the grandkids every day after school and all summer. 

There children are Cindy (Tony) Gosar, Greenwood; Cheryl (Gary) Judnic, Spencer; Mark (fiancée Corita) Rueden, Chippewa Falls; and Pamela Hoff, Spencer. 

The couple has eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ruppert observed their golden wedding anniversary Sunday with an open house at their home in the town of Hull, Wisconsin. About 125 people attended.

Mr. Ruppert was born in 1870 in Northern Michigan and came to this locality with his parents when a young boy. Mrs. Ruppert was born near Racine in 1887 and came to this locality in 1888. Mr. Ruppert’s father bought 160 acres of wild land, which they built into a fine farm. Edward Ruppert worked in logging camps 12 winters and in saw mills in the spring of the years. In 1897 he was married to Miss Lenice Graumann of the town of Hull, Wisconsin. They rented a farm for two years and then bought 80 acres from his mother. In 1900, he built a house. He logged one winter for Paul Umhoefer of Cherokee and four winters for Martin Ellingson. He was school clerk in the home district for 16 years and treasurer a number of years for the Riverside Presbyterian church. Mr. Ruppert built up a splendid farm and now has retired. The farm is now owned by the Ruppert brothers.

Five children were born to them, three daughters and two sons - Mrs. Arthur Fogarty of Wausau, Mrs. Fred Wucherpfennig of North Dakota, Mrs. Al Hefley of Chicago and Harold and Robert Ruppert. All the children and their families were present at the anniversary celebration.

Others from out of town present were Mr. and Mrs. James Anderson of Racine, brother in law and sister of Mr. Ruppert, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Ruppert of Mukwanago, brother and sister in law, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Strosen and son, Leonard, William Graumann, brother of Mrs. Ruppert, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Ruppert of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Graumann.

Mr. Ruppert is the third member of his family to celebrate his golden wedding. His sister, Mrs. James Anderson, celebrated this event in 1942 with her husband, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ruppert of Mukwanago celebrated in 1946.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ruppert, town of Hull, held “open house” for 125 guests in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary, May 4.

This couple is the third of the Ruppert family to observe a golden wedding, previous celebrations having been held in 1942 by Mr. Ruppert’s brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. James Anderson, and in 1946 by his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Ruppert. A family dinner, at which covers were laid for 35, preceded the reception.

The Edward Rupperts were married in the town of Hull in 1897 and the following year moved to the farm on which they still reside. Mr. Ruppert was born in northern Michigan in 1870 and his wife was born near Racine in 1878.

Their five children and their families were among the guests at the celebration. They include Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fogarty, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wucherpfennig and children, Donald and Elizabeth, Forman, N.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hefler and son, Chicago; and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ruppert and Mrs. Robert Ruppert and their families, town of Hull; Mrs. Fogarty is the former Edna Ruppert; Mrs. Wucherpfennig, the former Hattie Ruppert; and Mrs. Hefley, the former Viola Ruppert.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rush celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Wednesday, Sept. 30, by entertaining a few relatives and friends at a six o’clock supper at the Fireplace Supper Club. Mr. and Mrs. Rush were married Sept. 30, 1903, at Loyal. Mr. Rush has been very active as an attorney and also served for 12 years as state senator from this district. They have one son, Lt. Col. Robert Rush, who is stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska, with his family and who, of course, was unable to be here for the celebration.

Family and friends gathered at St. James Catholic Church for the 7:30 Mass honoring Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Russell on their 58th Wedding Anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell (Former Amelia Sachs) took part in the bearing of gifts to the altar.

Large baskets of yellow and bronze mums were placed on the altar by the family of Mr. and Mrs. Russell for all Sunday Masses.

The William Pire home was the setting for the 3:00 dinner given in honor of the Russells.
