Friends and relatives held a surprise party on Mr. and Mrs. Ed Maass of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) Good Friday evening celebrating their 37th wedding anniversary.

Attending the party were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hilton, Withee; Mr. and Mrs. Allan Wagner, Owen; Mrs. Mary Querin, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Wallick and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Mass, all of Greenwood, and Mrs. Sue Olson and daughter, Breanna of Amherst.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mabie, former residents of this community, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, Thursday, November 26, with a family dinner at the home of their daughter, Mrs. B. E. Loga, at Reedsburg, and with Open House at the Eagles Hall in that city.  Their eight children, with their families attended.  Thirty-five sat down to the Thanksgiving Dinner.
 

Miss Altha Davis and Albert Mabie were married at the Methodist parsonage in Neillsville by the Rev. G. W. Campbell. Their attendants were her brother, Albert Davis, now of River Falls, and her sister, Miss Addie Davis, deceased.   Mr. Davis was not able to attend because of poor health.
 

At the time of their marriage Mr. Mabie was foreman in the P. J. Kemmeter heading mill, and served in that capacity until 1905, when he received his appointment as rural mail carrier.  He served in this position for 36 years.  With the exception of six months carrying mail on route 4, he served as the carrier on Route 1, at that time the longest route out of Granton.
 

The Mabies spent most of these years in Granton; but since retirement, they have lived with or near their children’s homes.
 

Their children are: Mrs. Louie (Vesta) Schoetter, Chicago; Donovan, Watertown; Mrs. B. E. (Caroline) Loga, Baraboo; Milo, Neillsville; Mrs. C. (Irene) Clark, Reedsburg; Ernest, Plain; Mrs. Howard (Adeline) Berger, Carney, Mich.; and Ted, Stephenson, Mich.  There are 19 grandchildren, and all were present with the exception of Donna Mabie, the oldest grandchild, who is with the armed forces.
 

Several friends and relatives from here had planned to attend but due to weather conditions remained at home.

Mr. and Mrs. John Maier Sr. celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their farm home in the Town of Worden (Clark Co., Wis.) on Sunday, May 29th, 1938.

Mr. and Mrs. Maier were married at Charleston, Wis., Calumet Co., on May 29, 1888, in the St. Martin Church. They have seven children, all of whom were here for the anniversary festivities. They are George A. and John C. of Thorp, Mrs. Ray Gregoire, Hilbert, Wis., Sister Mary Leonissa, St. Francis, Wis., Sister Mary Regis, Jefferson, Wis., Pauline Maier, Denver, Colo., and Mary Maier of Manitowoc, Wis.

Other guests of the day were Mr. and Mrs. J. Gebhard, Green Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Oldenberger and Mrs. Emma Gebhard, New Holstein; Mr. and Mrs. George Gebhard and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Gebhard, of Manitowoc.

Mains, Cleo and Mary (50th Anniversary - 20 October 1933)

Mr. and Mrs. Cleo V. Mains of Greenwood were honored for their 50th wedding anniversary at Christ United Methodist Church, Merrill, the buffet dinner being hosted by their son and daughter-in-law. Mr. and Mrs. Erne Mains.

Cleo V. Mains of Valier, Montana and the former Mary Leone Nolan, Sparta, were married October 30, 1933 at Waukon, Iowa.

After their marriage, they lived in Montana, for a time, later moving to Sparta, where Mains was affiliated with Pet Milk Co., for many years. Greenwood has been the couple's home the past 32 years. Both are members of Grace Methodist Church, Greenwood.

The couple has four grandchildren.

On Friday evening, March 18, Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Mallig celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Oswald Pischer and family in the town of Grant.

The evening was spent visiting with friends and relatives. Mr. Mallig entertained the group with songs, stories and anecdotes. Rev. Laesch of Mapleworks church, Granton, addressed the couple from a Psalm text and offered a blessing.

A bountiful lunch was served at 10 o’clock, each guest receiving a piece of the gold-trimmed cake.

Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Lebrecht Kalsow and son, Wilbert; Mr. and Mrs. Roland Kalsow and daughter, Helene, Rev. and Mrs. Leasch, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Keuer and daughters, Edna and Arlene, Misses Hilda and Gusta Schoengarth, Miss Velda Tews and Herbert Frederickson.

Sunday at 4:00 o’clock dinner was served at the home of another daughter, Mrs. Lebrecht Kalswo and family at Globe.

Three bouquets of cut flowers, roses, daffodils, zinnias, snap dragons, stock and carnations decorated the tables for both occasions.

The room and table decorations were gold and white and each guest wore a gold spray.

Poems were read by Mrs. Kalsow, Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Grap and Wilbert Kalsow.

Mr. and Mrs. Mallig came to this country from Germany at the ages of 18 and 16. In 1888 they moved to Clark County and he worked at odd jobs until 1900 when he purchased a tract of land which he developed into a fine farm. Mr. Mallig was compelled to discontinue farming because of failing sight. Since then the aged couple have made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Oswald Pischer of the town of Grant.

Friends and relatives gathered at the American Legion Hall in Thorp Sunday evening to celebrate the Ruby Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Malnar of Greenwood. The honored couple were married on June 14, 1924. They have three children: Mrs. Mike (Rose) Krultz, Jr. of Neillsville, Mrs. Robert (Dolores) Zukowski of Thorp, and Matthew, who will return to his theological studies at St. Procopium Seminary in Lisle, Illinois this fall. The honorees also have six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The hall was appropriately decorated with ruby red and white streamers and white bells. A big sign with the words “Happy 40th Anniversary” also in ruby red and white letters hung directly above the beautiful cake, which was baked by Mrs. Vernon Lewandowski. The wedding photographs were also displayed.

Music for the evening was furnished by Jerry’s Jolly Jesters. Guests present were from Berwyn, Illinois, Minneapolis, Minn., Owen, Withee, Willard, Greenwood and Thorp.

On June 14, 1964 Mr. and Mrs. Matt Malnar of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. The day's festivities began with a High Mass celebrated for them at St. Mary's catholic Church by the Rev. Edward Hartung.

The couple has three children, Mrs. Mike (Rose) Krultz of Neillsville; Mrs. Robert (Dolores) Zukowski, Thorp, and Matthew, presently attending summer school in Minnesota prior to returning to the seminary for final studies. In addition, the couple has six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) couple, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Malnar, 113 North Crocker Avenue, will observe their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary on June 14, 1974. They have been residents of Greenwood for the past twelve years.

The couple are the parents of three children: Mrs. Mike (Rose) Krultz, Neillsville; Mrs. Robert (Dolores) Zukowski, Thorp; and Captain Matthew G., serving with the United States Air Force at Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand. The honorees also have seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

On Father's Day, June 16, a Mass of Thanksgiving will be offered by Father Malnar at the 10:00 a.m. service in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greenwood, in observance of the Golden wedding of his parents. A family celebration is also planned for the day.

Franz Paul Puhlmann gave special recognition to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mandel and to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Smith at Peace Evangelical and Reformed Church, Curtiss, last Sunday morning on their silver wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Mandel had their wedding anniversary on June 16th and Mr. and Mrs. Smith will have their anniversary on June 30th.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernst Mandel will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Friday, June 24th. Open house will be held on that day at the First Evangelical and Reformed church hall from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. for relatives and friends.

Mr. Mandel was born in Mishicott, Manitowoc county, Wisconsin, on Feb. 2, 1872, and came to the town of Green Grove when 22 years of age. He bought a 120 acre tract of land, 20 acres of which were cleared, which he farmed, in connection with doing carpenter work. Mrs. Mandel was born in Cleveland, Manitowoc county, and came to the town of Green Grove with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kademan, when two years of age. They were married on June 24th, 1899, and lived on the Mandel farm until 1907, when, because of his health, Mr. Mandel discontinued farming and carpentering and went into the cheese making business and operated a cheese factory in the town of Colby for 30 years. They retired from active work in 1926 and moved to the city of Colby, Wis.

While in the cheese business, Mr. Mandel won three first prizes on Colby cheese at the state cheese makers’ convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He also invented the Mandel agitator which he patented and later sold to Damrod Bros. of Fond du Lac. This agitator was a great help in making cheese.

Mr. and Mrs. Mandel have three children - Albert, on the home cheese factory, Mrs. Albert (Edna) Dins of Colby and Harry Mandel of Unity. There are six grand children.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernst Mandel observed their golden wedding anniversary Friday when they entertained relatives at a 4:30 dinner and midnight lunch at the First Evangelical and Reformed hall. Art and LaVerna Marcott of Curtiss celebrated their golden wedding anniversary July 8, 2006, at a reception and dinner held at the Curtiss Community Hall. The celebration was attended by family and friends.

Carol Marcott, Susan Marcott and Don Marcott, original wedding attendents, were on hand for the festivities.

The couple married July 7, 1956, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Curtiss, with the Rev. Martin H. Krause officiating.

Art was born April 7, 1935, in Curtiss, Wis. He is a 1953 graduate of Abbotsford, Wis. High School, and served with the Army Security Agency in Korea from 1953 to 1956. He retired as a semi truck driver for Schneider Transport.

The former LaVerna Thieme was born May 13, 1937, in Curtiss, and attended Owen High School. She owned and operated Laverna's Fabrics and Quilt Shop, and is now retired.

They are members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Curtiss, Wis.

They have two daughters, Linda Fleming of Neenah and Rita Navarre of Colby; three sons, Bruce of Montana, Brian of Eau Claire and Bryce of Fountain City; 16 grandchildren and two great-granchildren.

Marg, Mr. and Mrs. Duane (Silver – 18 April 1978)

A surprise 25th wedding anniversary was held at the Bali Hai Supper Club, Saturday evening, for Mr. and Mrs. Duane (Jim) Marg. They were married at the Pine Valley Lutheran Church, April 18, 1953, with a reception at the bride’s home and dance at the village hall and dance at the village hall. Their children include Ruth and Roger Rizner, Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Philip and Sue Herreid, Madison. Children still at home are Dave, Danny, Sheri and Missy. Besides relatives and friends from the area, celebrants also came from Turtle Lake and College.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer A. Marg, Rt. 2 Granton, were honored at a 50th wedding anniversary open house held Saturday evening, November 30, in the Bamboo Room at Bali Hai Supper Club. The Margs were assisted in the observance by their children.

Elmer A. Marg, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Marg, and Agnes Pauline Garbisch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Garbisch were married November 30, 1924, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neillsville. The Rev. Herman Brandt was the officiating clergyman. Attendants were Victor Garbisch, brother of the bride, Marion Ure, a close friend, Fred Marg, cousin of the groom, and Hilda Garbisch, sister of the bride. Ella Foemmel was the flower girl.

The Margs lived in the Town of Fremont, in Camas, Wa.; and in the village of Granton, where he operated Marg’s garage, before moving to their present farm home.

Mr. Marg was born in the Town of Fremont on May 15, 1904 and received his education at the Pine Circle School. He has held several church offices over the years, and at present is a trustee of Zion American Lutheran Church in the Town of Grant. He has also served on conservation and ASCS committees. For recreation, he enjoys fishing and hunting, and looks forward especially to the ice fishing season.

The former Agnes Pauline Garbisch was born in the Town of Grant on January 21, 1904 and attended the Kurth School near her home as well as Zion Evangelical Lutheran School. Mrs. Marg is a member of the South Grant sewing club and of the Ruth Circle of the ALCW of the church. For hobbies, she enjoys gardening and housework, as well as her flowers.

The couple’s children are: Mrs. Ralph (Alene) Lautenbach, Rt. 2 Granton; Mrs. Harvey (Amber) Pischer, Neillsville; Duane Marg, Rt. 1 Granton; Erland Marg, Turtle Lake; and Lt. Col. (Ret.) Curtiss J. C. Marg, Puryear, Tn. A third daughter, Ruth Agnes, died at the age of two.

There are 26 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

All members of the Margs’ immediate family were present for the observance. Among those coming from a distance were her sisters and their husbands: Mr. and Mrs. Ortwin (Hilda) Schimmel and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph (Leona) Tucker of Superior and Mr. and Mrs. Emanuel (Anita) Romang of Athens.

Two grandchildren, Curtiss J. C. Marg, Jr., who is in Scotland with the Navy, and Kenneth Pischer, who lives in California, together with their families, were unable to attend.

Three of the couple’s wedding attendants were present for the anniversary. They were: Hilda, Mrs. Schimmel; Marion, Mrs. Ed Lindow; and Ella, Mrs. Frank Hoffman.

Tables were decorated with gold candles and gold streamers for the anniversary observance. There was also a large, decorated anniversary cake. 

Marg, Mr. and Mrs. William (Golden – 18 November 1980)

Mr. and Mrs. William Marg, Scofield, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the home of their son, Roger Marg, Schofield. Dorothy Grottke, Sauk City and Gertrude Amacher, Abbotsford, members of the original wedding party, attended.

William Marg was born on December 10, 1903, in the Town of Fremont in Clark County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Marg. On November 18, 1930, he married Edna Scheeler in Granton ceremonies. Her parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman Scheeler.

In addition to their son, the Margs have two grandchildren.

William was employed by the Milwaukee Road for 47 years, retiring as a section foreman on the Wisconsin Valley Line at Wausau in 1970.

Mr. and Mrs. Marg are members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Schofield. 

Markham, Mr. and Mrs. Ira (Golden - 23 November 1961)

Mr. and Mrs. Ira Markham, a couple well known in southern Clark County, will observe their golden wedding anniversary with an open house at the American Legion Memorial Hall in Neillsville from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday.  Dancing will be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. with Pat Lautenbach’s orchestra furnishing the music.

The Markhams, who have lived in Humbird, Chili-Granton and Neillsville areas most of their married life are observing the anniversary early.  They were married November 23, 1911, in Humbird by Ben Travis, then a justice of the peace.

Mr. Markham met Mattie Pierce, the daughter of Austin and Eliza Pierce when he stayed at the Pierce home for a time and attended a school five miles north of the city with his future bride.

Following their wedding they moved to Altoona, where Mr. Markham was employed on a section crew by the Chicago & North Western railroad.

In 1928 they moved onto a farm near Humbird, where they remained until retirement in 1954.  The Markhams moved to Chili at that time, where their son, Earl, purchased a tavern at the Chili Corners.

They have six children: Mrs. Victor (Ina) Anderson of Chili; Mrs. Henry (Mabel) Knoll of Granton; Mrs. Truman (Marie) Sullivan of Milwaukee; Nathan of Granton; LeRoy of Chili; and Earl of Neillsville.

Marks, Mr. and Mrs. Albert (Golden – 14 November 1985)

Albert and Mary Marks of Neillsville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary November 9 at the Moonlite Inn, Neillsville. A reception was held followed by a program. Dinner was served at 5 p.m.

They were married November 14, 1935, by the Rev. William Bauman in the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church-parsonage, Neillsville. Original attendants at the marriage, Bill and Florence Kopp of Cambridge, were also present at the celebration.

Marks was born January 6, 1906, in Poland. He came to the United States with his mother when he was five-years old and settled in Clark County. His parents were Amedia Marks and his step-father Ferd Kopp. He attended Pine Valley School, Neillsville.

The former Mary Uran was born September 23, 1913, in Princeton, Minnesota, the daughter of George and Clara Uran. She attended Benton County schools in Santigo, Minnesota. Before her marriage, she did hotel and waitress work.

They have one son, Richard, of Neillsville. A son, Marvin, died July 6, 1952.

Life-long Neillsville residents, Marks worked at Neillsville Milk Products for 32 years, Marshfield Homes and for the City of Neillsville, where he is still employed part-time. He was also a member of the Neillsville Fire Department for 20 years. Marks is an avid gardener, Hunter and fisherman. The couple also sold bait for 19 years. They are members of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neillsville.

Mr. and Mrs. Emil Martens were honored at a surprise celebration of their 55th wedding anniversary Saturday, October 30, 1965, given by their daughters and families, with a dinner at the Colby Hotel.

Mr. and Mrs. Martens were married November 2, 1910 at Unity.

Table decorations included an anniversary cake, golden candles, milk white vases of lavender and plum colored chrysanthemums.

Mrs. Martens had a white orchid corsage and Mr. Martens a white carnation boutonniere.

Attending the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Helmuth Kuester and family, Miss Caroline Martens, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Duve and daughter, Barbara, all of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. George Roth and family of Unity, Miss Eileen Roth, Stevens Point, Joann Roth, Marshfield, Miss Carol Braun, Milwaukee, and John Laabs, Abbotsford. Kenneth Kuester, Milwaukee, was unable to be present.

After dinner the Martens and their guests gathered at the Martens home for a social evening.

The group presented them with a gift and potted plant, as well as many greeting cards from relatives and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Emil J. Martens were given a dinner party by their children and families at Pecks Plantation, Wautoma, on Saturday, Nov. 9, 1968, in honor of Mrs. Martens' 80th birthday and their 58th wedding anniversary.

Among the many gifts received by the couple was a portable radio set.

Mr. and Mrs. Emil J. Martens, Colby (Clark Co., Wis.), celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, November 1, 1970.

The honored couple, their family, and relatives attended the 10:45 services ate Zion Lutheran Church, Colby, with Rev. David Pankow officiating. Rev. Pankow offered a special prayer for the Martens at the service.

The group then gathered at the Village Plaza in Spencer for a family style dinner.

Mrs. Martens had a white orchid corsage and Mr. Martens a white carnation boutonniere for the occasion. The tables were adorned with roses and chrysanthemums, and the main centerpiece was a floral arrangement of large Fiji mums, along with the appropriately decorated anniversary cake.

Highlights of the celebration included a display of photographs and snapshots dating from 1910 through 1970; a copy of the Milwaukee Journal, dated November 2, 1910, their wedding day, and an original edition of the Ladies Home Journal, dated 1895.

Emil J. Martens, son of John and Catherine Martens, was born March 10, 1886, in the town of Unity (Clark Co., Wis.). He received his education in the town of Unity, and also completed a cheese making course at the University of Wisconsin, graduating in 1910.

Rose Domer, daughter of William and Amelia Domer, was born in the town of Unity on November 9, 1888. She received her education at Sunshine School in Unity, and worked for a brief period in Chicago prior to their marriage.

Emil J. Martens and Rose Domer were united in marriage November 2, 1910, at Peace Lutheran Church, town of Unity, which is now St. John's Lutheran Church, Riplinger (Clark Co.). where the ceremonies and attendants were Rev. A.E. Kemmena, who officiated, and Mrs. George (Anna) Orth, the bride's sister, and Daniel Martens, the groom's brother.

Both attendants are now deceased.

Following their wedding, Mr. Martens was a cheesemaker at New London for a short time, and the couple then farmed in the town of Unity from 1911 until their retirement in 1953, when they moved to their present residence in Colby.

They are the parents of five children: Mrs. Helmuth (Pauline) Kuester, Milwaukee; Caroline Martens, Milwaukee; Mrs. George (Bernice) Roth, Unity; Mrs. Carl (Delores) Duwe, Milwaukee, and John, who died January 6, 1962.

There are fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Martens held numerous offices in the church and has taken an active part in local government. Mrs. Martens is a charter member of Peace Lutheran Church and was one of the first confirmands of the newly founded church.

The same church has since been renamed St. Joh's and is located at Riplinger. She is an active member of the Blue Sky Garden Club and Ladies' Aid Society. She enjoys flowers, needlework and cooking.

To prove her interest in flowers, it is noted that Mrs. Martens provided an Easter lily with seven fragrant blossoms to the Zion Lutheran Church for services Sunday.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Martens are in general good health and they belong to the Senior Citizens group. He loves gardening and farming.

The couple had their anniversary photographs taken at Keel Studio, the same location they had their original wedding pictures taken, formerly known as Lukowicz Studio.

Mr. and Mrs. Emil Martens, Colby, who were married November 2, 1910, at Peace Lutheran Church, now St. John’s in Riplinger, observed their 65 wedding anniversary Sunday by attending services with members of their family at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby.

Mr. and Mrs. Martens were surprised during the afternoon, with relatives and friends dropping by to offer congratulations.

The Martens originally operated a farm in the Town of Unity until they retired 22 years ago to their present home in Colby.

Five children were born to the Martens: Mrs. Helmuth (Pauline) Kuester, Gresham, John who died in 1962, Caroline, Sussex, Mrs. George (Bernice) Roth, Unity, and Mrs. Carl (Delores) Duwe, Sussex.

They have 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul H. Martin, former residents of the Town of Lynn now living in Corvallis, Ore., observed their golden wedding anniversary October 11, at their home. More than 100 friends and relatives attended the observance.

Mrs. Martin is a sister of Mrs. Louis Lautenbach and of Arthur Opelt, both of rural Neillsville.  The Opelt’s and their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Opelt, visited in their home last July, as did Mr. and Mrs. Lautenbach.

For the celebration, Mrs. Martin wore a blue dress and a white orchid.  A three-tiered anniversary cake, decorated with golden candles and flowers, was served by Mrs. James Martin, Mrs. Richard Wirtz and Mrs. Harry Brandt, daughters of the honored couple.  Assisting with the guest book and gifts were the couple’s granddaughters, Mrs. Dave (Judy) Roberts, Janet Brandt and Gloria and Barbara Martin.

With the exception of one son, all of the Martins’ sons and daughters were present for the event.  They included: Lt. Col. Stanley E. Martin and family of Everett, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wirtz and family of Longview, Wash.; Mr. and Mrs. James Martin and family of Eugene, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brandt and daughter of Corvallis; Donald Martin of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Carol Wirtz of Portland, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs. David Robare of Seattle, Wash.; and Mrs. and Mrs. Barney Robare and daughter, Jeanne of Albany, Ore. Their son, Paul Kouis, of Las Vegas, Nev., was unable to attend.

The Martins were married October 14, 1914, in the Town of Lynn. They moved to Corvallis in September, 1942. Both Mr. and Mrs. Martin were employed on the Oregon State University campus until they retired in 1958. They live at 463 Harrison Street, Corvallis, Ore.

Mr. and Mrs. Casper Marty, long time residents of Pleasant Ridge and presently residents of Neillsville, will observe their 50th wedding anniversary at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Marty, Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m.

A family dinner will be held at the home of another son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Marty, located on the home farm which the couple left in 1958 after 45 years there.

The Martys were married June 19, 1913, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Altenus, in Evansville.  They moved in September of that year onto the old Guy Youmans farm on Pleasant Ridge, where they remained until they retired in 1958 and came to Neillsville. Their present home is at 609 West Seventh St.

The Martys are the parents of eight children.  Living are: Walter of Elkhorn, Fred of Granton, Mrs. Walter (Beth) Sternitzky of Granton, Mrs. Ray (Esther) Jones of Beloit, Mrs. Walter (Helen) Schoen of Neillsville, Casper and Robert, both also of Neillsville.

Mr. Marty was born in Glarus, Switzerland, April 14, 1890, and came to America with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Marty, at the age of 17.  The family settled at New Glarus.

Mrs. Marty was born in 1894 in Janesville. The family moved to Strong City, Kans., when she was three years old, and returned to Janesville when she completed her high school education in 1913.

Mr. and Mrs. George Machine were overwhelmed with surprise on Saturday afternoon, July 14, as relatives, neighbors and friends gathered at Snyder’s Park in honor of their golden wedding anniversary.

The event was planned by Mr./Mrs. Al Mashin, Neillsville, who picked them up at their home to take them out for a dinner at a supper club… Or so they were told. Instead, they drove with them to the park, where they were greeted by over 100 persons, who helped them celebrate 50 years of wedded life. It was a time to renew old acquaintances and enjoy the fine picnicking area. The day was warm and humid but a cooling breeze from the lake came in over the gathering. A potluck dinner was served with coffee. The tables were spread with a variety of fine food.

George and Dorothea Marie Schroeder were married July 17, 1929, in Elkader, Ia., in the parsonage of the Rev. Franke. The couple resided with Dorothea’s mother until 1932 when they moved to the Columbia area. George worked with the Iowa Highway Dept., for just over a year prior to moving to Columbia.

The couple farmed for a year, then moved to the town of Hewett. He then worked for the WPA for a year. George’s other employment includes seven years with the Clark County Highway Dept., four years with Plautz Brothers and eleven years with the Clark County Dept. of Forestry and Parks. After his retirement, he worked parttime for the Town of Seif as a patrolman. George was born on October 20, 1905, to Vincent and Marty Mashin in Columbia. Dorothea was born on January 23, 1913, in Guttenberg, Ia.

The Mashins have three children, Mrs. Stanley (Iris) Wampole of Madison, Robert of Rt. 3 Neillsville, and Donald of Rt. 2 Neillsville. All of the Mashin grandchildren attended the event, except one, Mrs. Randall (Marilyn) Lindquist of Warroad, Mn. Present were Mrs. Terry (Cheryl) Teasdale, Rhonda Wampole, Mrs. Russ (Vicki) Hanson and Douglas Wampole, of Madison; and Marvin, Marilyn and Tara Mashin, of Neillsville. One great-grandchild, Michele Hanson, daughter of Vicki, was there.

Friends and relatives gathered Saturday, June 30, to join Mr. and Mrs. Ike Mathews in celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. An open house, followed by a dance, was held at the Riviera Supper Club, and was hosted by their children.

Phyllis Matthews wore a long, gold-colored gown with a golden corsage. Ike chose a tan suit with a gold rose boutonniere. A tiered cake, decorated in gold and white, was made for the occasion by Mrs. Gerrie Schultz.

Phyllis (Wincentsen) Matthews was born in Aniwa. Ike was born in Black River Falls. They were married on July 2, 1929, in Winona, Minnesota. Since then, they have lived in Humbird, Loyal, Franksville and Neillsville. For the past 20 years they have resided at Rt. 2 Neillsville.

The Mathews have three children, Mrs. Leonard (Betty) Rueth of Greenwood, Mrs. Harold (Irene) Richmond of Neillsville and Roger of Racine. They also have eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

The original attendants, Dolly Clemens of Couderay and Lee Mathews of Alma Center, were unable to attend the gala.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to all who helped make the 25th wedding anniversary party for Mr. and Mrs. James Matousek of Hinsdale so successful. Mrs. Matousek is the former Frances Volk. Special thanks to father Fassbinder of St. Hugh for obtaining The Papal Blessing that we were able to present to them.

The food and drinks were out of this world, provided by Mrs. Frank Matousek and members of the Willard Club. They received a Sunbeam mix-master from the relatives, and a bushel of money from the Willard Club and friends. A special cake was made by Mrs. Anton Fortuna. The bride wore a pretty blue dress and a silver corsage was given her. A two piece band played. A good time was enjoyed by all.

Mr. and Mrs. William Mattes greeted their friends at open house in honor of their golden anniversary on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 31st, 1952 at the home of their son Douglas in the town of Aurora.

Margaret Ann McLeod and William Mattes were married Aug. 26th, 1902 in the Methodist Episcopal Church in Eau Claire. Rev. Ernest Millbank performed the ceremony.

Directly after their married they came to the groom’s farm in the town of Aurora where they resided until ten years ago when they returned to their present home in the town of Colburn.

All four children were present on the happy occasion, Mrs. Arthur Karow, Withee, Robert Mattes, Kenosha, Douglas, Town of Aurora and Richard of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The seven grandchildren also were present.

Mrs. Mattes was attired in wine colored dress, she wore a corsage of yellow roses. Mr. Mattes was dressed in oxford gray with a yellow rose boutonniere.

Sunday, Dec. 29th, 1946, will always be a memorable day in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Mattson, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), inasmuch as they observed their Golden Wedding anniversary; a distinction that very few couple attain. Over one hundred relatives and close friends of the couple took part in the program and dinner held in the basement of the Finnish Lutheran Church. The program consisted of singing of appropriate selections by the church choir, reading of recitations and poems, followed by a congratulatory talk given by Hjalmer Helkkinen, vice president of the congregation’s board of trustees. The proud newlyweds of half a century ago were presented with a cash purse by the congregation.

Mr. and Mrs. Mattson were married on Jan. 30, 1897 at Virginia, Minn., but observed the occasion at this advance date of one month because of the convenience to their children and families to be present with them during the holiday season.

Present were their daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Talvio, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mundt and family, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Neil Laine and Thelma Mattson, and Mr. and Mrs. Matt Bombach, Owen; and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Mattson, Chicago, Ill., and William Owen. Mrs. Emil Havelin of California, was unable to be present for the observance.

Mr. and Mrs. William Matuszak celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, Saturday, April 28, at their home with an open house and Hatfield reception and dance. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. May and daughters of Mrs. Fred May and children drove to Madison Saturday to attend the golden wedding celebration of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John May, who made their home at Christie for about 13 years while their son, Fred, ran a general store there.

Mr. May is a native of Bavaria, while his wife was born at Columbus, Ohio. They were married in Chicago, where Mr. May operated a meat market until 1910, when ill health prompted him to go onto a farm at Wisconsin Rapids.

Seven children were born to this union: John, residing in Canada; Mrs. Carl Schieffelbein, of Janesville; Carl May of Chicago; Geo. May of this city; Miss Florence and Atty. Arthur May at home. A son, Fred, passed away March 1, 1937. There are also 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

In their home lives, in the business world and in their church, Mr. and Mrs. May have proven themselves devoted parents, worthy citizens and true Christians and the marriage vows they exchanged 50 years ago have never been broken.

Mr. and Mrs. David Mayo, residents of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) since 1916, observed their golden wedding anniversary Sunday with a reception at their farm home north of that city from 2 to 5 p.m.

David and Pearl Mayo were married Feb. 16, 1908, in Woodland, Ill.  They settled in Watseka, Ill., where both were born, then farmed for a year before going to Stillwater, Okla.  A year later they returned to Illinois, where they resided until going to Owen in 1916.

Mr. and Mrs. Floyd McCann of Milwaukee celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary August 5, 1979 at the home of Ed and Maridene Wagner at their rural home near Theresa.

Their children, Jim and Beverly Boyles, Ed and Maridene Wagner, and Eugene and Kathy McCann hosted the occasion, serving dinner and supper to relatives and friends. They also have five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Floyd McCann and Meta Noeldner were married June 26, 1929 at Loyal. After their marriage they worked or farmed in this area and later operated a wrecking yard in Greenwood. In the early 40’s they moved to Milwaukee where the found employed and where they have resided since. Later they owned and operated an A & W Root Beer stand in Cedarburg.

Three of the original attendants, Herman Noeldner and Emma Rottjer, brother and sister of Meta, also Floyd’s sister Caroline, who was flower girl, were in attendance, and the ushers, Norbert and Erwin Noeldner, also brothers, were there.

On Saturday, June 16, 1957 Mrs. Arnold Huber, Milwaukee and Mrs. Ole Sather entertained relatives and a few friends at dinner at the Sather home in honor of the Golden Wedding Anniversary of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert McConnell. The date was June 12th, but was celebrated on Sunday.

Bell Peterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Peterson, and Robert McConnell were united in marriage by Rev. Hendren in the Presbyterian parsonage (now the Charles Ludwig home) at 8:00 p.m. on June 12, 1907.

The attendants were Libbie McConnell, sister of the groom, and Free Christie. They also attended the Golden wedding, but as Mr. and Mrs. Free Christie of Neillsville.

Mrs. McConnell was born in Neillsville, but came to Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) when a small child, with her parents, and settled on a farm 2 miles southwest of Greenwood. The farm is now occupied by Lloyd Peterson. Mr. McConnell was born in the Town of Eaton on the Twenty Six Road. They have spent their entire lives in this area.

Mr. and Mrs. McConnell have two daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Edna) Hubert, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Ole (Mable) Sather, Greenwood, and a son, Roy, of Beloit. They also have 3 grandchildren.

Mrs. McConnell has a brother, Ed Peterson, in Monterey Park, Calif., and Mr. McConnell has two sisters, Mrs. Free Christie, Neillsville, and Mrs. Isabell Morgan, Tacoma, Wash.

On October 1 a Golden wedding anniversary party was held to honor Mr. and Mrs. Sam McMillan. The party was given in their honor by their son, Peter McMillan of Owen; and daughters, Myra McMillan Norris of Summit, N. J., and Barbara McMillan Horvatin of Milwaukee.

Clyde (Sam) and Sylvia McMillan were married September 30, 1922, at Medford. The McMillans owned and operated their own bakeries for 12 years at Owen. They are now retired and are enjoying life at their home at Paradise Point on Lake Holcombe.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Meacham, Colby, will be celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday afternoon, December 3, 1972. An open house from 2 to 4 p.m. will be held at the Colby United Methodist Church basement. Everyone is welcome and no invitations are being sent.

Myrtle and Harvey Meacham were married on December 25, 1932 in the home of the bride at Route 1, Spencer. The brother of the bride, Rev. Peter Holmes, performed the ceremony.

The newlyweds spent a short honeymoon at Rib Lake, and then moved to Colby. In 1936 they bought their home at 522 N. Second Street, Colby, where they have since resided.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Mehlberg, Route 1, Withee, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on August 26, 1973 with a reception and lunch at the American Legion Hall in Thorp.

Mrs. Earl Baehr made a 4 tiered anniversary cake for the party.

Ben Mehlberg and Rose Vetterkind were married August 28, 1948 at the home of Mr. O.E. Parkinson in Owen. They were attended by Art Doege and Lois Mengel. They have lived at Route 1, Withee since their marriage.

Two daughters were born to them. They are Marlene Mae of Route 1, Withee, and Betty Jane, who was stillborn.

The honored couple received many lovely gifts and money. The relatives and friends present were from Birnamwood, Greenwood, Medford, Stanley, Curtiss, Sheldon, Cudahy, Lublin, Withee, Thorp, Owen and Boyd.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Meihak recently celebrated their golden anniversary, the occasion being hosted by their six children. A family dinner was held on Friday, September 19, at the Kozy Kitchen Kafé in Neillsville. An open house was held on Saturday evening at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Ruth Meihak, Rt. 1 Neillsville. A three-tier, gold-leafed cake with a 50-year ornament on top decorated the table.

The couple were married at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neillsville, on September 23, 1930, by the Rev. William Baumann. The original attendants, Mrs. Fred (Dorothy) Quast and Werner Meihak of Marshfield, were both present for the anniversary.

Both Albert and Ella Meihak were born and went to school in the Neillsville area and lived in the surrounding area all of their lives. They now reside at 408 Clay Street. The couple enjoy good health. Albert likes to play cards and watch baseball games. Ella like to read, knit and sew.

Six children were born to them. They are Donald, Neillsville; Dale, Wabasha, MN; Albert Jr., Ft. Atkinson; Mrs. Henry (Christine) Peepgrass III, Denver, CO; Monna, Anaheim, CA; and Linda, Bloomington, MN. All six were present or the celebration. They also have fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Guests from out of town came from Marshfield, Oshkosh, Hayward, Shawano, Lake Mills, and Madison and also from Cost Mesa, CA, Rollingstone, MN, and Saskatoon, Canada, Many relatives and friends from the surrounding area also attended.

Mr. and Mrs. William Meihak of Neillsville greeted well-wishers at a golden wedding anniversary open house Sunday afternoon in the American Legion Hall. The observance was planned for the couple by their children.

The Meihaks were married June 21, 1922, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Durst, in the Town of Hewett. The Rev. John Reiff officiated.

Mr. Meihak, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Meihak, was born in the Town of Weston, and the couple lived on the family farm there until they retired and moved to Neillsville in 1960. Mrs. Meihak was born at Plymouth and came to Clark County with her parents in 1905.

Both are members of Zion American Lutheran Church in the Town of Pine Valley, and she belongs to its Ladies Aid. Mr. Meihak is a former member of the Weston town board and his wife was a member of the hilltop Homemakers Club for many years.

Three of the couple’s children, together with their families, were present for the anniversary observance. A fourth child, Mrs. Evelyn Buchsteiner, who make her home in Waukegan, Il. is deceased.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Mendalski observed their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday, August 23, when they were honored at a dinner and reception given by their seven children at Koolmo’s, Gilman, Wis.

The jubilarians began their day with the renewal of their marriage vows at a nine-fifteen Solemn High Mass at St. Hedwig’s Church before an altar adorned with white gladiolus and yellow pompoms.

The bride of fifty years wore a white and gold dress with black accessories and wore an orchid corsage.

The groom of fifty years wore a yellow rose boutonniere on his blue suit lapel.

Breakfast was served at their home for approximately fifty guests; the table adorned with white tablecloth and gold bells with a gold vase with gold roses and gold ferns.

A dinner and reception followed at Koolmo’s for approximately one hundred guests with the Jolly Polkateers furnishing the music for dancing.

Two granddaughters, Miss Ross Smoczyk and Miss Barbara Luzinski, pinned each guest with a gold corsage and also were in charge of the guest book.

The couple and their immediate family dined at a table set with a beautifully decorated cake in gold, beside which two white candles with the numerals “fifty” in gold were lighted. The centerpiece was of yellow roses and white pompoms. Budvases were on all other tables.

The oldest daughter, Mrs. Frances Smoczyk, cut the cake.

The jubilarians were the recipients of many beautiful gifts and purses of money.

A beautiful centerpiece made by Mrs. Adeline Krackett of Chicago, cousin of Mrs. Peter Mendalski, was adorned with gold lace, a gold ribbon and bows and a clergy dressed in white reading a Bible, a groom dressed in black suit, and bride in dress of gold, with gold candles and bells. 4 wreaths of gold marked “50” encircled a gold money tree also placed on the table and given to the celebrants. Adeline was a flower girl 50 years ago to her cousin then.

Mary Wasilewski and Peter Mendalski were united in marriage at St. Mary’s church at Stanley, Wis., fifty years ago and are still engaged in farming.

Their seven children are: Mrs. Frank (Frances) Smoczyk, Thorp; Miss Martha Mendalski, Argo, Ill.; Mrs. Peter (Rose) Luginski, Chicago, Illinois; Theodore, Chicago, Illinois; Thomas Mendalski, Hammond, Ind.; Richard Berkeley, Ill.; and Mrs. Joseph (Bernice) Pletka, Thorp. They also have sixteen grandchildren. All the children were present.

Guests for the memorable day attended from St. Paul, Minn., Berkeley, Chicago, Waukegan and Bensenville, Illinois; Calumet City and Hammond, Indiana, Minden City, Ukly and Ruth, Mich.; Newburg, New York; Athens, Cornell, Gilman, and Thorp, Wis.

Congratulations were in order as Mr. and Mrs. Peter Mendalski observed their 60th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday, August 25, 1974.

Their children and their families helped them celebrate this joyous and momentous occasion.

Miss Michelle Luzinski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Luzinski, Chicago, presented her great-grandparents with a beautiful orchid corsage and carnation boutonniere. A lovely bouquet of gladiolas, carnations, and roses was the centerpiece for the table on which a delicious lunch was served, followed by coffee with the luscious cake which was decorated with red and pink sweetheart roses and white wedding bells.

A wonderful day was enjoyed by everyone.

Continued longevity and good health are the wishes for the honored couple.

A large number of relatives and friends joined Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Mertens on Saturday night, January 18th, 1975 at Meadowview County Club celebrating their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. In recalling the wedding, the Mertens were married at the Holy Rosary Church in Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), which is now the American Legion Hall. The date was January 14, 1950.

A 6:30 dinner was served at the Meadowview Country Club for relatives and the bridal party of 1950. They were especially pleased to have all members of the bridal party there, which included Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mauel Jr., Mr. and Mrs. August Mertens of Stanley, Doc. And Mrs. Vic Perman of Minneapolis, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mills of Minneapolis.

The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meske was celebrated Sunday, Sept. 2, 1962, and began with a special prayer during the 10:00 o’clock service at Christ Lutheran Church offered by the Rev. F. H. Sprengler.  The honored couple is both members of the congregation.

About 70 guests joined them at a turkey dinner given and served by the Ladies’ Aid in the churching dining room.  Mrs. Meske is a member.

Gold candies and flowers of the season were used in the table decorations and corsages of yellow roses and boutonnieres of white carnations, were worn by the couple and close relatives.

Beginning at 2:30, open house was held throughout the afternoon and evening at the home of their only son, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Meske.  About 200 persons attended.

The honored couple received many gifts and a purse of money.

Miss Vera Johnson and  Fred Meske were married Dec. 11, 1912.  The early observance of the date was planned to enable Mrs. Meske’s 87 years old aunt and sponsor, Mrs. Emma Pohlman of Waukesha and Mrs. And Mrs. Peter Johnson, her uncle of Waukesha, to attend.  Mr. Johnson will be 93 years old next month.

Fred Meske, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meske, was born in the town of Holton, July 6, 1888.  He was raised in the town of Holton and attended the Rosedale School.  He armed in the area until his retirement 14 years ago.

Mrs. Meske, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson, was born in the town of Neshota in Waukesha County April 21, 1893.  At the age of 10, the family moved to this area and Mrs. Meske completed her education at the Abbotsford schools.

Their marriage took place at the home of the bride’s parents and was performed by the Rev. F. Moecker.

The couple had one son, Milton, and one daughter, Mrs. Joyce Mizell, who died Sept. 5, 1952.  They have six grandchildren.

Mrs. Meske has three brothers, Willard Johnson of Detroit, Mich.; Eugene Johnson, Holcomb, Wis.; and Arthur Johnson of Duluth, Minn.; and one sister, Mrs. Olaf Borgemoen of Chelsea.

Mr. Meske had only one sister, who is deceased.

On Saturday evening, Oct. 18, 1947, friends and relatives surprised Mr. and Mrs. James Metcalf in honor of their 40th wedding anniversary at their home northwest of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.).

The former Clara Vollrath and James Metcalf were married Oct. 20, 1907 at Hayward. They resided at Hayward for several years and then moved to Greenwood, settling on their present farm, 10 miles northwest of here.

The Metcalf's have four children, Mrs. Ben Dallman and Leroy Metcalf, Greenwood; Everett, who is attending school at Eau Claire, and Dale in the Navy.

At a late hour lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Metcalf received many lovely gifts and a purse of money.

Mr. and Mrs. James Metcalf, Greenwood, greeted about 150 guests at an open house Sunday in observance of their golden wedding anniversary.
 

"We were married near Hayward and drove on to Spider Lake by horse and buggy," Mrs. Metcalf recalled. Their attendants were Inez Turnbull and Asa Metcalf.
 

Jim and Clara (Vollrath) met while he worked as a guide, and she was a cook, at a resort near Hayward.  After their marriage they lived in the Hayward area for three years.
 

They moved to a wooded area northwest of Greenwood that they hewed into a farm. Their son LeRoy now lives on this farm. Jim and Clara later bought a neighboring farm which they operated until they moved to Greenwood five years ago.
 

Besides LeRoy, the Metcalf’s have a daughter, Mrs. Ben (Bertha) Dallman, of Greenwood, and two other sons, Everett of Madison and Dale of Random Lake. They also have a foster son, Lynn Blecha of Bryan, Tex.  A foster son and daughter, Lee and Elmira Blecha, are deceased. There are eight grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Leon Metcalf, Rt. 3 Neillsville, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, June 2, at the United Church of Christ, Neillsville. The Rev. Gary Clark gave the invocation at the anniversary dinner. A dance followed at the American Legion Hall. The couple had a three-tier cake, decorated with white icing and trimmed with yellow roses. Norma wore an aqua blue dress while Leon wore a light brown suit. Both had gold and white flowers.

The Metcalf’s were married by the Rev. G.W. Longenecker in the Congregational Church parsonage, Neillsville. Two of their original attendants, Mildred (Walters) Warnecke and George Luebke, were present. Other attendants were Fern Metcalf and Alvin Wendt.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Metcalf were born and raised and educated in Clark County. Norma is working as a teacher’s aide in Loyal Schools. She enjoys flowers and crocheting. Leon plants and harvests the crops on the farm and hunts and fishes.

The couple have four children, Mrs. Vincent (Elaine) Senneth, Colgate; Mrs. James (Myrtle) Kernan, Sparta; Luvern, Villa Park, Ill., and Irving, Janesville. They also have 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) - An 11 o’clock service on Tuesday morning at Zion Reformed Church her marked the beginning of festivities for Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Meyer in celebration of their golden wedding. The Rev. B.M. Fresenborg officiated at the service before an altar decked with a profusion of cut flowers.

The services opened by the organist, Mrs. Don Warner, who played, "Silver Threads Among the Gold," followed by selections by the choir, who sang "Perfect Love," and "O, Happy Home."

After the rites at the church, dinner was served to approximately 100 guests in the church dining room. The tables were adorned with vases of cut flowers, centered by a three-tiered wedding cake, which was topped by a miniature bride and groom, and decorated in gold and white.

Mrs. Meyer was gowned in a dress of black corded crepe, and she wore a corsage of yellow tea roses. Mr. Meyer wore a white carnations on his coat.

Adolph William Meyer, son of the late William and Caroline Meyer, was born April 5, 1870, in Lippe Detmold, Germany. At the age of five, he came to America, living in the Town of Rhine, Sheboygan County. In 1895 he came to Greenwood and has made his home here since that time.

For many years he was engaged in the logging business, and worked as a teamster for several concerns in Wisconsin. Later he was employed as janitor at the Greenwood Public School for 15 years.

Mrs. Meyer, the former Caroline Soefker, was born in the Town of Mead (Clark Co.). Mrs. Mead has been a member of the Ladies Aid Society for about 40 years, and was also the church organist for about the same period of time.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Meyer have been members of the Reformed Church for many years and have been active in all branches of church work.

The couple first met at the wedding of a mutual friend, and were married a few years later, May 31, 1899, by the Rev. John Schmalz.

Three sons were born to them, Gilbert, Greenwood; Orlando, Cameron; and Elmer, Chicago. They have three grandchildren, Joyce, Greenwood, and David and Kathleen, Cameron.

A reception was held at the Meyer home during the afternoon, and supper was served in the church dining room. Open house was held at the home in the evening, when many relatives and friends came to extend best wishes and congratulations. The honored couple were presented with a purse of money, in addition to many lovely gifts.

An old fashioned charivari was a fitting climax to the enjoyable and happy event.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Meyer were honored on their silver wedding anniversary. Their children gave them a surprise party, August 8, 1970, at the Meyer home in Colby (Clark Co., Wis.).

An interesting novelty furnished were two mannequins dressed in the wedding gown and Navy uniform worn by the couple on their wedding, which took place August 8, 1845.

The party was attended by friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Meyer.

The fiftieth or golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyers, long time residents of Clark County, Wis., was appropriately observed last Sunday at Green Grove. An interesting feature in connection with this celebration was the fact that Mr. Fred Runkel of Milwaukee and Mr. H. C. Meyers of Gulfport, Miss., who attended Mr. and Mrs. Meyers last Sunday, were repeating an experience of fifty years ago, when Mrs. Runkel, as Miss Auguste Rurbom, acted as maid of honor to the bride and Mr. H. C. Meyers was best man to his brother, the groom, rev. M. C. Goetsch rendered a beautiful wedding ceremony at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Green Grove at 4:00 o'clock. At the ceremony, the children formed a double row in the isle, down which the bridal couple and their attendants passed on to the alter. The wedding dinner and reception was held at the home at 5:00 o'clock. The evening was spent playing cards, and at midnight, a wedding supper was served.

About 200 friends and relatives attended the services at the church and about the same number were entertained at the dinner in the old Meyer home, which had been beautifully decorated by Mrs. Herbert Meyers, wife of their only son, Herbert.

This joyous occasion is also an anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Meyers' twin daughters, Mrs. John Salter and Mrs. George Gebhardt.

Mr. Henry Meyers was born in New York City, N.Y., on Jan. 1, 1855, and Mrs. Meyers was born in Sheboygan Falls, Wis., on June 4, 1860. They were married at Howard's Grove, Sheboygan Co., in 1879, when this vicinity was still a vast wilderness. Ten children were born to them. Those living are Mrs. George Sullivan, Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. A. Botterud, Livingston, Mont.; Herbert Meyers, at home; Mrs. Richard Sampe, Osceola, Wis.; Mrs. Otto Schulte, Colby; Mrs. George Gebhardt, Milwaukee; Mrs. John Salter, Pittsville, Wis. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyers also have fifteen grandchildren.

By hard and diligent work, Mr. Meyers built a fine farm out of his forest, which consisted of 147 acres. He cleared 100 acres of his farm. Eight years ago, he retired from the active management of his farm and he and his wife live just across the road from the old homestead, which is now being operated by their son, Herbert. Mr. Meyers was a carpenter and contractor by trade, which he followed previous to his work on the farm.

Mr. and Mrs. Meyers are members of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, of which Mr. Meyers has been elder for ten years. Both have always been held in high esteem by all in the community, which is shown by the large number of public offices Mr. Meyers has held. He served as town clerk for nine years, treasurer for two years, justice of the peace for six years, town assessor for three years and jury commissioner for five years.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyers of Green Grove have passed another mile-stone on their journey through life together when on Sept. 24th they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. All their children were present to help them celebrate this happy occasion and the home was beautifully decorated with garden flowers. At 5:00 o’clock a dinner was served to six children, seven grand children and two great grand children and Rev. and Mrs. M. C. Goetsch and children. During the evening, the neighbors charivaried them and wished them many more years of wedded life.

About twenty friends and neighbors, including their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Anderson of Eau Claire, invaded the home of Postmaster and Mrs. John Michael last Friday evening, Feb. 18th, 1944, to remind them that it was their silver wedding anniversary.  And was it a surprise!  The invaders brought well filled baskets of delicious refreshments, including a fine wedding cake.  Cards were played and a mock wedding was performed.  It was one of those "long remembered" evenings for all participating.

In celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary Mr. and Mrs. John Michlig, route 1, Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.) attended a special anniversary Mass at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Abbotsford, The Rev. Emil Hodnik officiating on Saturday, September 15, 1973.

That evening a dinner was served to approximately 110 persons in the church basement, which was decorated for the occasion with gold candles and floral arrangements.

Following the dinner an open house and dance were held at the Abbotsford City Hall, with music by the Augustines. A mock wedding was performed by several of the couple's grandchildren and friends. For the event, Mrs. Michlig wore a corsage of red roses, while Mr. Michlig sported a gold carnation boutonniere.

John Michlig was born January 21, 1900 in Marathon to Mr. and Mrs. Otto Michlig. He was educated in the Marathon schools and farmed in Emmet prior to his marriage.

For his wife he chose Catherine Handrick, born February 16, 1904, to Mr. and Mrs. William Handrick, Emmet. The couple was married January 8, 1924 in Halder.

Mr. Michlig enjoys fishing and hunting. His wife sews and tends her gardens, in her free time. Both are enjoying good health.

The couple farmed in Curtiss from 1935 to 1953, then continued living on the farm while Mr. Michlig worked at the Bootzin Feed Store in Curtiss, later purchased by Les Bowen. In 1965 he retired, but has been working part time in Bowen Hardware, Curtiss.

All the attendants in the original wedding were present for the celebration. They were best man, Henry Michlig, Athens, cousin of the groom, maid of honor, Mrs. Ronald (Ann) Sonnentag, Laona, a sister of the bride; groomsman, Joe Michlig, Manlius, Illinois, brother of the groom, and bridesmaid, Clara Darling, Milwaukee, sister of the groom.

Also present were the couple's six children, Jerome Michlig, Colby; Mrs. Myron (Lorraine) Ewert, Colby; Lavern Michlig, Dorchester; Mrs. Donald (Mary Ann) Frane, Colby; Hilarian Michlig, Abbotsford, and David Michlig, also of Abbotsford.

The Michligs have 25 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Michur surprised their parents with a 25th anniversary party held at the American Legion Hall on Saturday, night, June 4, 1972. It was a total surprise to the honored couple. Many relatives and friends from Owen, Thorp and Stanley attended. The evening began when Mr. and Mrs. Michur attended church services on Saturday night. It was a surprise when they saw many relatives from away join the mass. Upon leaving the church they found a manure spreader awaiting to escort them to the American Legion Hall.

Coming from away were their daughter Diane, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Albrecht and family of Reedsville, and children, Cindy, Wayne and Mike, who planned the party; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gruber, parents of Mrs. Michur, and Mrs. Josephine Michur, Adam's mother from Stanley; Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Mandalski and family of Waukegan, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Truse and family of Menomonee Falls; Mr. and Mrs. John Sopiarz and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Coates, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Michur and family, all of Thorp; Roger Koffarnus, Curtiss; Sherman Gosse, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ludwig of Dorchester; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Balk and family of Stanley; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Moore and family, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Haas, Sun Prairie.

The evening party was spent in visiting and dancing to the music of the Star Lighters of Stanley. A lovely lunch was served and the couple received many nice gifts and money gifts. The Michur's son, Danny, was unable to attend, as he is in the service in Alaska.

On June 20, 1932 Florence Plecity became the bride of William A. Micke at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church at Thorp.  On Saturday, June 22, 1957 they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary beginning with a Mass at 8:30 a.m. with Rev. A.M. Muckerheide, who performed their marriage ceremony in 1932, still pastor of St. Bernard’s Church, officiating.

Mrs. Micke wore a dress of blue shantung and a corsage of gardenias and red rosebuds.

The attendants of their who were present on the occasion on Saturday were Mrs. Roy Harper of Milwaukee, sister of the bride, Mrs. W. G. Vanderhyden of Thorp, sister of the groom, and Mrs. Robert Turenne, a friend, of Thorp, who was the flower girl at their wedding.

A wedding breakfast was served to the immediate family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Murnie Anderson.  A reception and supper for 140 guests were held at St. Bernard’s Parish Hall and a dance in the evening at the American Legion Hall.

Mr. and Mrs. Micke, who have spent their married life on a farm in the town of Worden (Clark Co., Wis.) have a family of five children: William, Armon, Joan, Carol and Gerald.

Saturday, Jan. 22nd, 1944 at 9:00 o’clock at St. Hedwig’s Parish Church, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Milewski marched to the altar as they did fifty years ago, to receive the blessing of the church on the golden Anniversary of their marriage. A holy mass was sung for their intention during which the aged couple as well as all their children received Holy Communion. The altar was beautifully decorated in gold.

A dinner was served at the family home for immediate relatives and during the afternoon and evening many friends of the publiarians called to offer their congratulations and good wishes.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Miller celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Legion Hall in Neillsville, Saturday, with an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. and a dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Their original attendants Archie Schultz and Mrs. Walter (Peggy) Schultz, a sister, were present.

Mrs. Miller wore a figured jacket dress. Her corsage consisted of three burnt orange roses, surrounded by yellow daises and gold ribbon. Mr. Miller wore a dark suit and a burnt orange rose boutonniere.

Albert Miller and Mildred (King) Miller were married by the Rev. Lambert April 12, 1928. A wedding cake, which included a water fall was topped by a decoration made of white lace, gold net and white bells against a background of a golden “50”, surrounded by more white lace, pearls and flowers The Rev. and Mrs. William Noble gave the invocation.

Albert Miller was born in Whitewater in 1902 and attended school at St. Mary’s in Neillsville. Mrs. Mildred (King) Miller was born in Merrill and attended schools in Neillsville. She went to a country school, the North Side and High School. Both have lived in this area all of their life. The Millers reside on Route 3. Both still have good health. Mr. (Pete) Miller widely known as ‘Pete’ hauled milk for 16 years. He is retired and raises beef cattle. He is supervisor for the Town of Seif. Mrs. Miller worked at Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide, besides taking care of their son Donald, who is in a wheel chair. also likes to knit and take care of flowers.

They have nine children, One is deceased. They are Mrs. John (Deloris) Genteman, Marshfield, Donald D. Miller at home, Albert L. Miller, Jr., Cincinnati, Oh., Duane R. Miller, Marshfield; Mrs. Walter (Barbara) Oldham, Mrs. Jesse (Patricia) Hagen, Mrs. Lewis (Judy) Grap, and Mrs. Kasimer (Sandra) Kolano, all of Neillsville. Also, 24 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

And a very, very long list of attendees including names such as the family members and Reise, King, Knutson, Shaughness, Shaw, Gehrmann, Theder, Gehrmann, Hartman, Mathews, Buchholz, Stevens, Shofer, Francis, Krueger, Wolfe, Shultz, Krogerson, Stricker, Sperbeck, Brock, Lloyd, Abrahamson, Fees, Zank, and Zimmerman from many different Wisconsin areas and adjoining states.

Amos Millers, Elkhart Lake, Mark Golden Wedding Event

Mr. and Mrs. Amos Miller, R. 1, Elkhart Lake, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday with a large open house gathering at Rhine Center Hall in the afternoon and evening.

Approximately 300 guests attended the day’s festivities, which included a buffet supper at 6 o’clock, followed by dancing later in the evening.

Relatives and friends were present from De Kalb, Ill., Lake Geneva, Janesville, Genoa City, Sauk City, Neenah, Manitowoc, Green Bay, Spencer, Abbotsford, Colby, Ripon, Brookfield, Oshkosh, Brillion, Kiel, New Holstein, Valders, Belgium, Fredonia and Cleveland.

Several money trees, designed in the golden wedding theme, were among the many gifts presented to the celebrants.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Miller are natives of Manitowoc County. The former Miss Matilda Neuhaus, Mrs. Neuhaus was born in Newton, April 1, 1896, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Neuhaus. Mr. Miller’s birth date is April 20, 1895. His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller.

The couple’s wedding took place Aug. 12, 1915 at Curtiss, Wis., with the Rev. A. George Schmidt officiating. One of the attendants, Mrs. Carl Roewe of Colby, formerly Miss Norma Miller, was present at the golden wedding observance.

Mr. Miller worked as an auto mechanic until 1931, after which he established a livestock trucking business, which he operated until 1953. Until his retirement in 1963, he was part owner of Amos Miller & Sons, an implement business in Plymouth.

Bethel United Church of Christ at R. 1, Elkhart Lake, is the Miller’s church affiliation.

The five sons and three daughters, comprising the family of Mr. and Mrs. Miller, were present for the celebration.

They are: Mrs. Lee (Elda) Laabs, Glenbeulah; Harold Miller, New Holstein; Mrs. Harold (Verna) Hueppchen, R. 1, Waldo; William H. Miller, R. 1, Elkhart Lake; Arnold Miller, Plymouth; Mrs. Orville (Arlene) Boeldt, Plymouth; Melvin Miller, McLean, Va., and Eugene Miller, Appleton.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller also have 22 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Favorite hobbies of the golden wedding pair are card playing and traveling; watching television is another source of enjoyment of them.

Mr and Mrs. Ed. Miller of this city celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, Dec. 11, 1932. A few close relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Miller came Sunday evening to help them celebrate.

The evening was spent in visiting and at midnight an oyster supper was served. Two large cakes were brought for the occasion by Mrs. Otto Miller and Mrs. Walter Marg.

Mr and Mrs. Miller were married in Hillsboro, Wis., Dec. 11, 1882. They lived on a farm southeast of Hillsboro for thirty years. In 1912 they moved to Clark County and bought a farm in south Pine Valley, now known as the Miller Brothers' farm. They lived there three years and then moved to Neillsville and bought a home on South Hewett street, where they have lived since.

This union was blessed with three boys and one girl, Henry of Wisconsin Rapids, Walter and Otto on the home farm and Elsie, now Henry Zimmerman, of the town of Grant.

The relatives present were Mr. and Mrs. Otto Miller and family, Walter Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Zimmerman and daughter, Irene, Gus. Steffen and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Mary.

A good time was enjoyed by all.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Miller, who were married September 21, 1940 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Dubuque, Iowa, celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary October 16, 1865 at the Cherokee Hall.

Relatives and friends from Minneapolis, Marshfield, Colby, Stratford, Wausau and Schofield attended the evening festivities. Dancing and cards were enjoyed by all, and refreshments were served.

Mr. and Mrs. Joachin Miller of Colby were congratulated by a large number of friends and relatives on their fiftieth wedding anniversary last week Wednesday during an "open house" held throughout the afternoon and evening. Among those present were the couple’s three children, Mrs. Halver Becken and Wilbert Miller of the town of Green Grove, Raymond Miller of the town of Colby, 12 grand children and one great grand child.

Also present were Mr. and Mrs. Otis Hays, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Borchert, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Prochnow and Mr. and Mrs. John Bandow of Neenah, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Sommer of Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. John Miller of Green Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Weinfurtner of Marshfield and Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Kaufman of Abbotsford, Wisconsin.

Mr. Miller was born in Germany and came with his parents to the town of Green Grove, where they settled on a farm in 1884. He was married to Miss Bertha Bandow at St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Green Grove April 30, 1897. They lived on a farm in that township until about 15 years ago, when they retired and moved to Colby, Wisconsin.

Mr and Mrs. John Miller, 725 Broad Street, Oshkosh, formerly of Neillsville, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary, Nov. 3. Nine children, six daughters, and three sons were born to the couple of which four were able to come home and help celebrated the event.

The out of town children and grandchildren were Mrs. P. Schultz, and daughters Helen and Dorothy and Mr. and Mrs. Wallie Schultz and son Leonard, which is the only great grandchild of the bride and groom. These relatives all are from Neillsville.

The out of town guests were Mr. And Mrs. George Miller of Fond du Lac and Mr. and Mrs. O. C Jenks and daughter Gladys and son Billie from Pickett and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Allen and son Darrell of Oshkosh.

A lovely dinner and supper were served at the home. The evening was spent in dancing and singing.

The couple received many lovely gifts.

The other children who could not come were Mrs. Geo. Welanda, Lamour, N. D., Mrs. Palmer Welander, Fullerton, N. D., John and Carl Miller, Butternut and Mrs. John Miesle, Nomewood, Ill.

Mr and Mrs. Miller were married in Milwaukee and came to Neillsville a year later. Mrs. Miller’s name before marriage was Louise Kloety and she was born at Grafton, Wis. Mr. Miller was born in Germany. They have lived in Oshkosh for the past 22 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Leo Miller were guests of honor at a reception held in their home Saturday, September 19, 1970, in observance of their 25th wedding anniversary.

The celebration was planned and sponsored by their children.

The dining and buffet tables were decorated with silver and white streamers and frosted wedding bells. A floral arrangement of pink gladiolas and white spider chrysanthemums adorned the dining table, along with the two tiered anniversary cake decorated with pink roses and silver wedding cake ornament.

A white orchid corsage with silver leaves and a white carnation boutonniere were presented to the couple by their children. A corsage of pink roses and white button mums was presented to special guest, Mrs. Nellie Miller , Jefferson, Iowa, mother of Leo Miller.

Other guests included Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Monthei (Wayne was best man 25 years ago), Mr. and Mrs. Glen Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Dunivan, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Garrity and Mr. and Mrs. Merle Ferguson, all of Jefferson, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. James Mercier, Mr. and Mrs. earl Boss, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Calley, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Herrmann and Mr. and Mrs. James Gutenberger, all of Colby, Larry Hass of Wausau.

A buffet luncheon was served and cards and gifts were presented to the couple, along with a special anniversary mass at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Colby.

More than 75 guests helped Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Miller of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller received many lovely gifts and monies.  Their son, Larry, who is stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage, Alaska, called to wish his parents a happy anniversary.

Lunch was served to the guests by Mrs. Marie Hanley, Mrs. Ellen Miller, Mrs. Dorothy Roberts, and Mrs. Bonnie Miller.  The table was beautifully set with many lovely pieces of silver.  Mrs. McMillan decorated a cake in white and silver, in keeping with the occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Miller were married Feb. 24, 1934 by the late Rev. T.E. Diemer at Stratford.  To this marriage two sons were born, Larry, who is now at Anchorage, Alaska, and Dennis at home.

Monday evening, February 28th, 1916 a large number of neighbors and friends surprised Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Milligan of the town of Eaton (Clark Co., Wis.). Mr. and Mrs. Milligan were married five years last Saturday, which the guests came to celebrate Monday, over thirty being present. They brought an abundance of eatables with them, and spent the evening in an enjoyable manner. The guests departed at a late hour, wishing Mr. and Mrs. Milligan many more such happy events and left a nice little sum of money to purchase a gift in remembrance this happy occasion.

Calvin and Elnora Mills, Neillsville, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 11 with an Open House at the Wildcat Inn. The festivities included refreshments and a buffet dinner where 300 people were served. Decorations included a three-tier wedding cake, macramé baskets as table centerpieces, and a box for cards in the shape of a wishing well. Long-time friend, Henry Rahn, presented a historical review of the life and times of Mr. and Mrs. Mills and their family.

In the evening a program and mock wedding was held at the Mills’ home for relatives with a planning of the occasion, and the grandchildren participated in the mock wedding. Children of couple participating were: Arlene Mills Gierl, Bessemer, Michigan; Donald C. Mills, White Bear Lake, Minn; and Arlyn A. Mills, Owen, Wis.

Also present were attendants of the original marriage: Lee Mills, Neillsville, brother, Carol Scherer, Greenwood, cousin; Everett Shaw, Neillsville, brother-in-law; and Erline Shaw, Neillsville, sister. Many friends and relatives attended from all over Clark County and from various parts of the state.

On Sunday, October 12, the immediate family attended church services at Calvary Lutheran Church, Neillsville, Wis. The occasion was concluded with a family dinner at the Wildcat Inn and the opening of gifts at the Mills’ home.

The couple was married October 15, 1930 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Neillsville with the Rev. William Baumann officiating. Mr. Mills was born June 27, 1906 in the town of Weston, Clark County and educated at the Christie Grade School and Neillsville High School. He farmed before he was married and was also the town of Weston Clark County Clerk from 1933 to 1945.

Mrs. Mills, the former Elnora Uhlman was born May 20, 1906 in the town of York in Clark County and attended town of York Grade School and Loyal High School. She was employed by the city of Neillsville and at the bakery.

After their marriage the couple lived in the town of Weston from 1930 to 1932, then the city of Neillsville, from 1933 to 1945 and in Owen from 1945 to 1970. Mr. Mills was the administrator and assistant administrator of the Clark County Hospital, Neillsville from 1970 to the present time.

It was a busy weekend for Calvin and Elnora Mills recently when the couple was feted on their golden wedding anniversary. A Saturday afternoon, October 11, open house at the Wildcat Inn, rural Neillsville, marked the opening of the celebration for Mr. and Mrs. Mills.

Over 300 people took part in the buffet dinner and heard Henry Rahn, a longtime friend of the couple, offer a historical review of the life and times of the honored couple and their family. (Decorations at the event included a three-tiered cake, (blur) baskets as table centerpieces and a box in the shape of a wishing well for receiving congratulatory cards.)

Later that evening, a program and mock wedding was held at the Mills’ Neillsville home. Attended by relatives, grandchildren took part in the wedding.

The following day, Sunday, October 12, the family went enmasse to services at Calvary Lutheran Church. Special music was provided by the Rev. and Mrs. Paul Forde. The family then traveled back to the Wildcat for a private dinner and then returned to the Mills’ home for the opening of gifts.

The couple were married on October 15, 1930, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville. The Rev. William Bauman officiated. Attending the anniversary celebration were some of the original bridal party. Present were Lee Mills, brother, Neillsville, Carol Scherer, cousin, Greenwood, Everett Shaw, brother-in-law, Neillsville and Erline Shaw, sister, Neillsville.

The couple lived in the Town of Weston from 1930 to 1932 and then moved to Neillsville until 1945 when Owen, became their home. They returned to Neillsville in late 1976 after he retired.

Calvin was born on June 27, 1906, in the Town of Weston to Claude and Charlotte Mills. He attended Christie Grade School and Neillsville High School. Prior to his marriage, he farmed in the Town of

Weston. He was active in local government affairs. He served as clerk for the Town of Weston from 1927 to 1932 and then was elected county clerk, serving in that post from 1933 to 1945. In 1945, Mills was selected as assistant administrator and later administrator for the Clark County Hospital, Owen, serving until December 31, 1970, when he retired. He enjoys fishing and gardening, and his health is good.

Elnora was born on May 20, 1906, in the Town of York to William and Emma Uhlman. She received her education, in the Town of York Grade School and Loyal High school. She moved to Neillsville and worked as a bakery employee prior to her marriage. She enjoys needlework and quilt making. She is in good health also. The couple are active
members of the Calvary Lutheran Congregation.

Children of the honored couple are Mrs. Arlene Gierl, Bessemer, Mi.; Donald, White Bear Lake, Mn.; and Arlyn, Owen.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Missling, who were married 50 years ago, Oct. 17, 1950, celebrated the occasion on Sunday, Oct. 15, when a dinner was served in the church basement by members of the Ladies Aid Society of St. John’s Lutheran Church, of which Mrs. Missling has been a member for many years. Many relatives and friends were in attendance.

After dinner, open house was held at the home of Mrs. Herbert Missling from 2:30 to 5:30 o’clock.

The honored couple have resided in the Town of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.) for 44 years. They now live in a small home on the farm of their son, Ray, near Withee. They are the parents of five children, all of whom were present for the occasion. They are Mrs. Wesley (Eva) Cartwright, Cudahy; Ray Missling, Withee; Robert Missling, Loyal; Mrs. Russel (Linda) Lewis, Altoona, and Herbert Missling, Owen. There are 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Many gifts and a purse of money were received by the celebrants.

Out of town guests included relatives from Milwaukee, Fond du Lac, Michigan, Appleton, Cudahy, Neillsville, Altoona and Oshkosh.

On Tuesday evening friends and neighbors gathered at the Ray Missling home to further celebrate the occasion. When lunch was served a cake made for them by Mrs. Ray Munson, was the centerpiece at the table. This group of friends also presented the Misslings with gifts and a purse of money.

Mr. and Mrs. Chester M. Mitby observed their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, February 28, with open house at Trinity Lutheran Church parlors at Cashton from 2 to 4:30 p.m.

Hosts and hostesses for the afternoon were their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mitby, Madison; sons-in-law and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. James Wangen, Loyal and Mr. and Mrs. Carleton Mills, Minneapolis.

Margaret Elizabeth Murray, Kendall, and Chester Melvin Mitby, Cashton, were married February 27, 1915, at the Baptist parsonage, Winona, Minnesota, by Rev. Arthur Brown.

Mr. and Mrs. Mitby have lived all their married life in Cashton, except for one year in Westby.

Mr. Mitby was active in the livestock business for 45 years, until his retirement five years ago.  Since retirement he has been able to spend full time with his hobby of training horses and taking care of his farm.  He also purchased two rural school houses, had them moved to town and remodeled them into two completely modern two bedroom homes.

Mr. Mitby is one of three citizens over the age of 70 years who were born in cashton and are still living in town.  He resides in the same house where he was born.

In addition to their son, Norman who is director of the Madison Vocational School, two daughters, they have five grandchildren, John and Peggy Mitby of Madison, Margaret, David and John Paul Mills of Minneapolis.

An interesting program was presented with Henry Errickson as master of ceremonies.  One of the highlights was the placing of gold hats by John and Peggy Mitby on their grandparents’ heads.

These tin hats, now sprayed gold, were made by a local tinsmith, Jorgen Olson, deceased, 69 years ago and worn by Mr. Mitby’s parents, the P.E. Mitbys at their 10th wedding celebration.

Margaret and David Mills presented the orchid corsage and boutonniere to their grandparents.  The youngest grandchild, John, sat in the white high chair that his grandfather Chester sat in 70 years ago.

Conrad Larson sang the same solo, “When You and I Were Young, Maggie,” that he sang at the golden wedding of the P.E. Mitbys 29 years ago.

Rev. Duane Bottjen opened the program with an inspiring message.  Short talks were given by their son and daughters, a cousin, Lester Mitby and the honored guest, C.M. Mitby.

Mrs. Ted Torkelson and Mrs. Jon Torkelson sang “I Love You Truly”, accompanied by Mrs. Otto Buhmann.

Impromptu complimentary remarks were offered by Howard Lee of Denver, Colorado, and Mrs. H. R. Watkins, Winona.

Mrs. Jerome Bertz of Loyal was among the out of town guest to attend the celebration.

Some 90 friends and relatives gathered Saturday, September 25, at the James Becker farm on the 26 Road to greet Ruth and Swede Moberg on their 50th wedding anniversary. The Moberg’s were married on September 26, 1932, in Neillsville.

The former Ruth Redmond was born in Oregon but came to the Christie area as a young girl. She graduated from Neillsville High School in 1929 and then worked in Milwaukee.

Elery Moberg, better known as “Swede,” is a native of Greenwood where he has lived most of his life. In 1921, he graduated from the Greenwood High School. For many years he was umpire for the baseball games. After their marriage they farmed in Clark County. Through the years they have traveled. He likes to watch baseball on TV and does some gardening.

Mrs. Moberg worked for the Wuethrich Creamery for ten years. She has belong to several homemaker groups. At the present she is the president of the United Methodist Women and is a member of the Grace United Methodist Church. Her spare time is spend in reading, crocheting and knitting.

The Moberg’s have four daughters. They are Mrs. Charles (Marjorie) Klapatauskas, Withee; Mrs. James (Sharon) Horswill, Neillsville; and twins, Mrs. James (Lois) Becker of Loyal and Mrs. Arnold (Avis) Becker of Greenwood. There are 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Lucien Moh observed their Silver wedding anniversary Saturday evening, April 22, with a 7:30 p.m. dinner at Bali Hai supper club followed by an open house. The Mohs, who make their home on the Moh family farm just south of Granton, were married April 18, 1947, by Rev. Mennicke in a Lutheran parsonage at Winona, Mn.

Their three daughters, Linda (Mrs. Dale Bender of Neillsville), Sally and Mitzi, and Linda’s husband, Dale were present for the observance. Dinner guests also included the Mohs’ wedding attendants, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Harris of Winona, Mn.

Despite inclement weather, 114 close neighbors, friends and relatives were served supper at the Walter Moldenhauer home in the Town of Grant in celebration of the Moldenhauer’s’ 50th wedding anniversary last week Wednesday.

The Moldenhauers were married in the Lutheran Church in the Town of Grant by the Rev. Carl Haas on May 14, 1902.  They have one son Alfred, who runs the family farm.  Guests were present from Random Lake, Milwaukee, Grafton, Silver Creek, Eau Claire, Tripoli, Marshfield and Cedarburg.

Table waiters at the supper were schoolmates of their only granddaughter, Doris.  The waiters were LaVada Dankemyer, Ethel Winters, Dorothy Hiles, and Lila Sternitzky.

Following the supper a dance was held at the American Legion Hall at  Neillsville for about 200.

The 45th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Montag, Rt.1 Chili, was observed Thursday evening, February 5, at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Elgene Montag, also or Rt. 1.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Montag, Rt. 1 Chili, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on February 8 with a morning church service, an afternoon open house at the church and an evening buffet luncheon at the home of the couple’s son and daughter-in-law.

Attending the event was Mrs. Anna Montag, 91, Harold’s mother. Also attending were Victor Montag of Chili and Ester (Beil) Dankemeyer of Neillsville, who are sister and brother of the couple and who were the original attendants at the February 5, 1931, wedding of the Montag’s.

The celebration began at 9:00 a.m. with a service at Christ Lutheran Church of Chili, officiated by the Rev. Horst Augustin. Lou Ann Lange and Darlyn Doehr offered a vocal duet. That afternoon, during the open house, a program was offered; Joyce Montag handled the guest book while Lou Ann, Jayne, Amy Rachel, Eddie and Bethany Lange served punch. The evening celebration was held at Elgene and Joyce Montag’s rural Chili home.

The honored couple wore a corsage and boutonniere of sweetheart roses and baby’s breath, presented as a gift by the Elgene Montags.

Harold was born on July 4, 1911, in Chili to Herman and Anna (Fenske) Montag. He received his education in Chili schools and then worked at road construction and in Chili and Stetsonville cheese factories prior to his marriage.

Hilda Montag was born December 30, 1907, in the Town of Lynn to Adolph and Laura (Schlinsog) Beil. She attended Forest Side School and then worked for ten years as a clerk for a Chili general store prior to her marriage.

The Rev. V.M. Keiper officiated at the February 5, 1931, wedding of the couple, held at Zion parsonage, Granton. The newly-married couple lived in Chili for a few years. In 1935, they moved to their present farm, which is now owned by their son, Elgene. In July of 1973, Harold and Hilda retired.

The couple are livelong members of Christ Lutheran Church of Chili. Harold served for 18 years as a supervisor for the Town of Fremont and also served on rural school and church boards. He now enjoys raising doves, finches and parakeets. Hilda served as a church organist for 55 years and now enjoys working crossword puzzles and making quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Both are in good health.

Family members gathered at the rural Chili home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold (Hilda Beil) Montag, on the evening of February 5, to celebrate the couple’s fifty-fifth wedding anniversary.

Among the many anniversary greetings received by the Montags was a card from President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan.

Guests at the observance included their son, Elgene Montag and wife Joyce; Idora Fenske; Harland and Viola Meissner; Geneva and Elmer Steffen; Lou Ann and Russell Lang; Esther and Gerald Dankemyer; Hazel and Lyle Doehr; Victor and Olice Montag; and Anna Montag, Harold’s ninety-seven year old mother.

Esther (Beil) Dankemyer and Victor Montag were the couple’s wedding attendants fifty-five years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Moon of Milwaukee celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary June 25 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Klauer, formerly of Globe, now of Milwaukee.  Over 40 guests were present.  A lunch was served, with a big wedding cake as the centerpiece. They received many gifts.  Mrs. Moon is the former Evelyn Dusak of Neillsville, and Mr. Moon was from Shawano.  They were married at Shawano.  They have two sons.  One is married and the other is at home.  Mrs. Klauer and Mrs. Moon are sisters.

An anniversary celebration was given by the hostesses Jeanette Ringquist, Mrs. Lucille Ringquist and Mrs. Norman Luchterhand at the Morgan home Sunday evening. The occasion was the 42nd wedding anniversary of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Morgan.

Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Norman Luchterhand, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Luchterhand and daughter Margie, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Rueden and Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Gloudeman, Dorchester; Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Westphal and daughter, Carol, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rueden, Abbotsford; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Florkowski, Mr. and Mrs. Felix Zukowski, Joe Koziolek, Mrs. Lucille Ringquist, Unity and Miss Jeanette Ringquist, Wausau.

Bunco was played with high honors going to Mrs. Gene Gloudeman, ladies, and Felix Zukowski, men; low, Mrs. Vernon Westphal and Vernon Westphal.

The rooms were decorated with garden flowers where a delightful lunch was served to guests. A wedding cake made by Mrs. Norman Luchterhand was the centerpiece of the table. Mr. and Mrs. Morgan received many beautiful gifts.

Mr. and Mrs. James Walter Morrow of Colby observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary at a small family dinner last Wednesday evening. They were also honored at a family picnic at Marshfield on Sunday.

The former Emma Brandt was born February 19, 1904 in the Town of Beaver in Clark County. Jim Morrow was born October 6, 1891 in Mosinee. After their marriage in 1923 the Morrows lived in Withee, then moved to K Corners, north of Loyal. They also lived for a time on a farm which is the present site of the Colby High School. Before his retirement, Morrow worked at the Colby Cheese Box factory for fourteen years.

Mr. and Mrs. Morrow had four children, two sons, Donald (Bud) of Colby and Delbert of Marshfield. They also had two daughters who died in infancy, plus nine grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

Friends and relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Merton N. Morrow of Virginia Beach, Virginia, were entertained on July 9, 1970, honoring the Morrows on their 25th wedding anniversary.

A dinner and dance were held at the Village Plaza in Spencer, with music provided by the Don Frodle trio. The tables were decorated with pink carnations and silver candles. The decorated wedding cake, centerpiece for the occasion, was baked and decorated by a friend. The couple received many lovely gifts.

Mr. and Mrs. Morrow were married July 9, 1945, at the First Evangelical and Reformed Church at Colby (Clark Co.,Wis.), with Rev. Oates, Marshfield, performing the ceremony. The attendants were Mrs. Herbert Sauer, Colby, matron of honor, Mrs. William Metzger, Wisconsin Rapids, and Miss Audrey Schulte, Colby, as bridesmaids. Serving as best man was Wilbur Larson, Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, and groomsmen were Herbert Sauer, Colby and Sylvester Tesmer, Colby.

All attendants except Wilbur Larson were present for the anniversary celebration.

Mrs. Morrow is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Loos, Colby. Mr. Morrow is a former resident of Spencer, Wisconsin. Mr. Morrow has served with the U.S. Navy for 28 1/2 years, and is presently stationed at the U.S. Naval Station, Norfolk, Virginia.

The couple are the parents of two children, Suzette and Jerry. The Morrows had been visiting in the Colby area with relatives and friends during the past three weeks.

Friends and relatives who attended the anniversary celebration were from DePere, Wisconsin Rapids, Rib Falls, Athens, Wausau, Unity, Stratford, Spencer and Colby.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mortenson, former residents of the town of Worden (Clark Co., Wis.), were honored on Sunday in commemoration of their 40th wedding anniversary.

About thirty-six friends and relatives were present for the occasion at the Mortenson home in Stanley, where a very sociable afternoon was spent.

Chas. Mortenson and Thora Jorgenson were married Oct. 10th, 1901, at Denmark, Wis. Shortly after they came to Clark Co. and settled in the Town of Worden on the farm now owned by Anton Benzschawel. A few years later they retired and moved to Stanley, which is now their home.

To this union five children were born: Arnold of Sheboygan, Alvin of Kelso, Wash., (Marie) Mrs. George Bodman of Eau Claire, Raymond and Willard at home. Marie was the only child present at the celebration.

Mrs. Frank Bratz, vice-president of the Pioneer Women’s Club, of which Mrs. Mortenson was an honored member, present the couple with a beautiful lace tablecloth from the club members, and also a purse of money from the assemble guests.

A delicious lunch was served and everyone departed wishing them many more happy anniversaries.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Moser, formerly of Neillsville, celebrated their golden wedding Thursday evening Feb. 4th at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Arthur Christen, south of this village. One daughter, Mrs. F. J. Mietzke, of Toledo, Wash., and one son, Frederick, of Rockford, Ill., were not able to be present but Robert of Neillsville was present.

The following neighbors and friends attended: Mr. and Mrs. F. Christen and son, Herman: Oscar Johnson and family; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stanley; Mr. and Mrs. H. Gerber; Mr. C. Gerber; Mr. and Mrs. J. Hefty, daughter, Bertha, and son, Fred; Mr. and Mrs.. R. Aeschbacher and sons; and Mrs. G. Maeder and son.

The living room was decorated in gold and white. A most enjoyable time was spent in visiting, singing songs and music, by Fred Moser, R. Aeschbacher, Herman Christen and Fred Mader. Although 78 years old Mr. Moser is still active in playing the violin.

A bounteous supper, contributed by all, was served at midnight.

In honor of the occasion Mr. and Mrs. Moser were presented with a nice sum in gold, also various presents and cards, after which all departed for their homes wishing them many happy years in the future.

Mr and Mrs. Chas. Motts celebrated their Golden wedding at their home in the town of Lyn on Dec. 26. They were married in the Lutheran Church at Mapleworks Dec. 26, 1880 and have lived all their marriage lives on their present farm.

Mr. Motts was born in Washington County, Wis., and his wife, whose maiden name was Rose Wischuelke, was born in Germany.

They have one daughter, Mrs. Chas. Reisner, of Lynn, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Muehler, Carpentersville, Illinois, former area residents came back to Dorchester to observe their silver wedding anniversary. About 200 guests were present in Memorial hall at the afternoon, reception, dinner and an evening of dancing on Saturday.

Gerald is the son of Otto Muehler, Medford, who was a long time resident of the Town of Holton. Mrs. Muehler was the former Jeanette Diers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Diers of Athens.

The couple was married September 18, 1946 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Milan. He is employed at Hills-McCana in Carpentersville.

The couple has six children and four grandchildren. The parents and the following brothers and sisters attended the celebration here Saturday: Mrs. Bernice Muehler Silvulka, Medford; Elroy Diers and Virginia Diers Plumb, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Sylvester Diers, Kewaunee, Norman and Vernon Diers, Athens, Margaret Diers Schreiner, Marathon; and Lorraine Diers Weiland, Colby.

Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig C. Mueller commemorated their golden wedding anniversary by a family reunion at their home on Sunday, July 20th, 1924. That it was a happy time for all concerned is an assured fact. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Mueller and family, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. John Guitzkow, Louis Mueller, Prairie du Sac; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ott, Logansville; Mr.a nd Mrs. William Mueller and son, Fairchild; Mr. and Mrs. George Mueller and daughter Edna, Humbird; Mr. and Mrs. B. G. Blum, Eau Claire.

Mr. and Mrs. Mueller were married in Sauk Co., Wis. fifty years ago, July 23, 1874. Their first home was in that vicinity, where they remained for thirty-one years. Nineteen years ago they retired from active farming and moved to Humbird, living for a number of years in the residence owned by Chas. Buchholz. Both are natives of Germany, coming from adjoining provinces, in their early years and settled in Sauk Co., where they grew to manhood and womanhood. Both are enjoying good health in their sunset years, and are happy with a highly respected family of sons and daughters, who gathered with their families to observe this joyous anniversary. Mr. Mueller is nearing his 76th milestone and Mrs. Mueller is five years his junior. The community joins in their happiness.
