Mr. and Mrs. Arthur G. Laabs celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at an open house in the Colby City Hall from two until six p.m. on Saturday May 30th.

Mrs. Laabs was born June 6, 1887 in the town of Little Black, 5 miles southwest of Stetsonville.  Mr. Laabs was born on Dec. 22, 1885 in the town of Green Grove (Clark Co., Wis.), 7 miles west of Colby.  They were married on May 29, 1909 in Stetsonville.  They lived in Madison for one year, in Peshtigo six years, in Marshfield two years, on a farm near Colby 27 years, and in Colby 14 years.  Mr. Laabs operated a cheese factory 4 miles northwest of Dorchester from 1902 - 1906.  He attended the Wis. Dairy School during the winters of 1905 - 1906 and 1906-1907; was cheesemaker at the Curtis Cheese Factory in 1907; attended the Wis. Business College, La Crosse, during the winter of 1907 - 1908; was in charge of the creamery department at the Madison Dairy School and instructed in buttermaking from 1908 to 1910; owned and operated the Peshtigo creamery from 1910 to 1916; owned and operated Guernsey Hill farm at Colby from 1918 to 1945; was chosen a State Master farmer in 1929 and Key-Dairyman for Marathon County in 1944.

Since 1945 Mr. and Mrs. Laabs have lived in retirement at Colby.  Their daughter, Mrs. Edward (Anita) Bergstrom, resides at Owen.  She has two sons, Douglas, 18, and Randy, 11. 

Cafeteria lunch was served by the Ladies Aid from three to six p.m.  The room was decorated with bouquets of lilacs, tulips, honeysuckle, hydrangea and gold color mums on the tables.

There were 80 out of town relatives and friends, with a total attendance of 170 persons.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur G. Laabs, Colby, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at an open house in the Colby City Hall, from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

About 170 persons were in attendance. A cafeteria style lunch was served and the room was decorated with bouquets of lilacs, tulips, honeysuckle and hydrangea. Gold colored chrysanthemum bouquets were seen on the tables. Gold colored mums also formed the boutonniere and corsage worn by the honored couple as they greeted their many guests.

Mr. and Mrs. Laabs were married on May 29, 1909, in Stetsonville, the Rev. Lorenz officiating.

Ferdinand J. Laabs, Pocatello, Idaho, was best man at his brother’s wedding and attended the celebration Saturday. Mrs. Laabs, sister, Mrs. Mary Peissig of Milwaukee, who was her attendant, was unable to attend.

Mr. Laabs was born on Dec. 22, 1885, in the town of Green Grove. He is the son of Herman and Ulricka Laabs, and was educated in the elementary school in Green Grove.

Mrs. Laabs is the daughter of Frank and Mary Peissig of the town of Little Black, and was born there on June 6, 1887. She attended school there and resided on her parents’ farm until the time of her marriage.

They have resided in Madison, Peshtigo, Marshfield, and Colby. Mr. Laabs operated a cheese factory near Dorchester from 1902 to 1906. He attended the Wisconsin Dairy School in 1903-04 and instructed in cheesemaking at the school during the winter months. In 1907 he became cheesemaker at the Curtiss cheese factory and was in charge of the creamery department at the Madison Dairy School where he instructed in butter making from 1908-1910. He has owned and operated the Peshtigo creamery, and the Guernsey Hill farm at Colby. He was chosen state master farmer in 1929 and key-dairyman for Marathon County in 1944.

Since 1945, Mr. and Mrs. Laabs have lived in retirement at Colby. They have one daughter, Mrs. Edward (Anita) Bergstrom of Owen, and two grandchildren, Douglas and Randy Bergstrom.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur G. Laabs of Colby, presently making their home at Memorial Home in Neillsville, observed their 60th wedding anniversary last Thursday in the home.

The parents of Mrs. Edward (Anita) Bergstrom, formerly of Owen and now living in Eagle River, Mr. and Mrs. Laabs were married May 29, 1909, in Stetsonville. Both are in good health and with good minds, and they enjoyed little attentions paid to them on their anniversary by friends, relatives and by Mrs. Ethel Paulson, social director of the nursing home.

In his active years, Mr. Laabs was an influence in the cheese industry of central Wisconsin. He was honored as a “truly great cheesemaker” during the annual convention of the Central Wisconsin Cheesemakers and Buttermakers Association back in 1956.

At the age of 15 Mr. Laabs became a helper in a cheese factory owned by his brother, Emil, at Curtiss. At the age of 16, he started making cheese in his father’s factory, four miles northwest of Dorchester, and operated this factory for four years. At this time he was believed to be the youngest cheesemaker in Wisconsin.

During the winter of 1903-1904, while operating his father’s factory, Mr. Laabs attended the Wisconsin Dairy School at Madison and was the youngest in a class of 154 members. In the following two years Laabs accepted an assignment as an instructor in cheesemaking at the Madison school, and was recognized as an authority in the trade.

That Clark and other counties making up central Wisconsin should become a leader in dairying was foreseen by the young cheesemaker back in 1907. Addressing the Wisconsin Cheesemakers Association at that time, he predicted that “it is only a question of time, and a short time at that, when north central Wisconsin will become one of the greatest and most successful dairy districts in the United Sates.

Laabs attended the La Crosse Business College in 1907, and on September 1, 1908, he was placed in charge of the creamery department at the Madison Dairy School.

In 1910, he took over a cooperative creamery at Peshtigo which was in financial trouble. Within three years he had purchased the building and made a success of the factory of 140 patrons. Butter production, during that period climbed to as much as 1,000 pounds a day during the flush. Failing health forced Mr. Laabs to sell the creamery in 1916. He served as assistant superintendent of the dairy department of the Wisconsin State Fair in that year.

In 1918, Mr. and Mrs. Laabs went into dairy farming near Colby, where they raised registered Guernsey cattle. In 1929, he was chosen as State Master Farmer; and in August of 1939 he received a certificate of recognition from the Wisconsin department of agriculture for outstanding achievement in farming and “unselfish service in the promotion of farm youth.” In 1944 he was named Key Dairyman for Marathon County and was presented with an award and certificate by the Wisconsin Dairymen’s Association.

From 1945 until they moved to Memorial Home here, Mr. and Mrs. Laabs lived in retirement in Colby, and for several of those years Mr. Laabs served as a farm appraiser for the Veterans Administrations and area banks.

The Rev. and Mrs. Herman Laabs celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sunday, July 29, 1973. Rev. Laabs was minister at St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) from 1917 to 1922, and many friends will still remember them. Pastor and Mrs. Laabs were married at Grafton, Wisconsin by the late Dr. Schroeder. Most of their years have been spent in the Mayville community, where they have lived since 1927.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Laabs of Route 1, Owen, were the guests of honor at an open house October 28, 1972 in observance of the 50th anniversary of their wedding day. The event was celebrated at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Poppe of Withee.

About 200 friends and relatives came during the afternoon and evening. Rev. A. Rasch, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, North Green Grove, of which the Laabs are members, gave devotions and prayer in the afternoon.

Mrs. Laabs wore a corsage of yellow roses and white carnations and her husband wore a boutonniere of a single yellow rose and white carnation. Gold bells, streamers and candles were used to complement the serving table, which featured an anniversary cake.

Walter Laabs and the former Edna Borchert were married October 28, 1922 in Zion Lutheran Church, Colby, by the Rev. M. Kirchenhoefter. The attendants at the ceremony who were present for the anniversary celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Borchert of Colby, brother and sister-in-law of Mrs. Laabs, and Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Glenzer of rural Owen, sister and brother-in-law of Mr. Laabs.

Mr. Laabs was born May 5, 1900 in the town of Green Grove, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Laabs. He received his education in the rural Green Grove School. He was engaged in farming on the farm which the couple still reside on, until his retirement in 1964. He is presently employed part time at the Clark County Hospital near Owen. A very active person, Laabs was the town clerk of Green Grove for eighteen years, and is treasurer at the present time. He also enjoys hunting and fishing.

Mrs. Laabs was born June 6, 1901 in the town of Colby, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Borchert. She received her education in the rural school in the town of Colby. She was employed at Miller’s restaurant and the Colby Hotel, both in Colby. Mrs. Laabs is in good health and enjoys sewing.

The Laabs are the parents of three daughters, Mrs. Rolland (Vernetta) Knecht, Route 1, Unity; Mrs. Donald (Dorine) Poppe, Withee, and Mrs. Delmond (Karen) Olson, Route 1, Owen. They also have eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A 55th wedding observance was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Poppe on Sunday, October 30, 1977 for her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Laabs of Green Gove. The day was spent visiting and enjoying refreshments. Attending were all three daughters and families, Mr. and Mrs. Roland (Vernetta) Knecht and family of Unity, Mr. and Mrs. Delmond (Karen) Olson, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald (Dorene) Poppe and family.

Also very special were all four of their attendants, who were Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Glenzer, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Borchert of Colby, Mrs. Gusta Hertz, Colby, and Augusta Borchert, Abbotsford.

Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Lulloff, Owen, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Lube, Colby, and Pastor and Mrs. Roland Rakow of St. Pau’s Lutheran Church, Green Grove. In all there were 46 in attendance.

Mr. Laabs has been enjoying his retirement for many years with his part time job as grounds keeper for the Clark County Health Center terminated last June. 

Laffe, Mr./Mrs. George (Golden - 26 Oct. 1936)

Humbird has seen in recent years numerous golden wedding anniversary celebrations, but perhaps no happier one was ever held than one last Sunday, when Mr. and Mrs. George Laffe observed that event. A gathering of the family and a few other relatives at their home marked the day. Present were their four sons: Louis G. and family, Leonard J. and family, Fred A. and family, and Henry E; and their two daughters, Mrs. Emma Haag and family from North Bend, and Mrs. Mary Iffland and husband, of New London. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Haag, of Black River Falls, and Christ Eisenhart, brother of Mrs. Laffe. All excepting one of their twelve grandchildren, Herman Laffe who is employed in Madison, were present. Twenty-seven partook of the golden wedding feast Sunday.

George Laffe and Miss Lizzie Eisenhart were united in marriage at North Bend, on Oct. 26, 1886. Both were natives of Germany, Mr. Laffe of Bavaria, and his wife of Wurtemberg. Each had come to America several years previous, the latter with her parents and brothers and sisters, and the former with his brother Andrew. About a year following their marriage was spent at Winona, and then they came to a farm east of Humbird, and this vicinity has been their home ever since. A large circle of friends join with the family in wishing these good folks many more years of happy journey together.

On Sunday, July 11, 1971, the children of Mr. and Mrs. Frank LaFlex honored them with an open house celebration for their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. LaFlex and their children attended the 9 a.m. services at the Zion Lutheran Church in Gilman and a special prayer was said commemorating their 50 years of wedded life. From two until five p.m. a reception was held at the Colburn Town Hall in Huron, Wisconsin. Over two hundred friends and relatives attended to extend their congratulations to the golden jubilarians. A buffet lunch was served, after which Mr. and Mrs. La Flex cut their beautiful anniversary cake.

Frank LaFlex and Adeline Anton were united in marriage on July 14, 1921. Reverend R.H. Kreit officiated at the ceremony, which took place at Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Nis Anton and Irene Fuller attended the couple.

In 1923 the couple moved to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), where they spent the next 26 years farming. They moved to their present residence near Gilman in 1949.

Mr. and Mrs. LaFlex are the parents of nine children: Oliver of Thorp; Phyllis (Wald) of Chippewa Falls; Wenona (Weiss) of Carpentersville, Illinois; Donna (Teclaw) of Thorp; Earl of Jacksonville, Florida; Iva of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Maynard, stationed with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam; Larry, stationed with the U.S. Navy in San Francisco, California; and Patricia (Madison) of Gilman. They also have fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Lake, Mr. & Mrs. Henry (Gold – 29 MAY 1965) &  (60th – 11 Feb 1975)

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lake, formerly of Colby, of route 1, Milladore, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Saturday, May 29.  Open house was held from 2 to 5 o’clock at Sportsmen’s Park, Colby, with a 5 o’clock cafeteria style supper.

Mr. Lake, a native of Waukesha county, lived in the town of Colby before his marriage to Edna Laux, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Laux.  Born at Kiel, she lived in the town of Colby and was educated there.

The couple lived in Colby for 35 years and a few years at Spencer before moving to Milladore.  Both are members of the United Church of Christ.

They have three daughters and four sons, all living in Illinois except a daughter at Milladore.  Two sons died at the ages of three and five.  There are 25 grand children and three great grand children.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lake, Colby, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family gathering at 1251 3rd Street North, Wisconsin Rapids.

They were married February 11, 1915 in Colby. They have seven children: Clarence, Harold, Percy, Wilbur and Henrietta (Mrs. Elmer Lange), all of Elgin, Illinois; Arnetta (Mrs. Edward Liebl) and Erna, (Mrs. Louis F. Kellner), Wisconsin Rapids. They also have 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A former Willard couple, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Landini observed their 10th wedding anniversary July 30. Mrs. Landini is the former Gwendolyn Urbanz. They have three children, Carmella, Robert and Lelani. They resided on a farm in Willard until last month, when they moved to Loyal. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Janezich and family from here were among the guests at the party.

Mr. and Mrs. Orville Schultz of Unity entertained about twenty guests Sunday in honor of the silver wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lane of Corpus Christi, Texas. Mrs. Lane (Marie Mais) is a former Unity girl and a sister of Mrs. Schultz.

An unusual anniversary was celebrated last Sunday morning at the 8 o’clock Mass at St. Anthony’s Church.

Two couples celebrated their Silver wedding anniversary together at the service both having been married 25 years ago January 7th in a double wedding ceremony in Loyal.

The couple honored were Mr. and Mrs. Max Langfeldt and Mr. and Mrs. George Schellinger.

On Sunday evening, relatives and friends helped celebrate the event with a party at the Langfeldt home, lunch was served and games played.  Mr. and Mrs. Langfeldt received many cards and gifts.  Among the guests were their daughters Joan and Lois of Stevens Point, and their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Polasek of Wild Rose, who were here for the weekend.

The Schellingers observed the event with a party with friends of theirs, having to postpone a family celebration until their children are able to come home.  A son, Dick, who is in the army, is expected home soon.  Their daughter Jane was in the hospital and another daughter in Milwaukee was unable to come.

Soren and Emma Fees Larsen of 319 Grand Avenue, Neillsville, were honored Sunday afternoon, August 23, at an open house in observance of their 50th wedding anniversary. The open house was given by their daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Don Schultz. of Rt.1 Greenwood, and Lois and Irv Marg, at the Marg home on Rt. 2 Neillsville.

The Larsens were married August 30, 1927, in Cottonwood, S.D., by Rev. Carswell. Besides their daughters and sons-in-law, their immediate family includes seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. All were present for the occasion, together with many friends and relatives from near and far.

Harland and Frances (Geisler) Larson celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary with their church family, friends and neighbors at a special coffee fellowship after worship service at Calvary Lutheran Church Sunday, Sept. 4.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard E. Larson of Loyal observed their golden wedding anniversary with a reception in the Methodist Church parlors at Loyal at 2 p.m.  An introduction, welcome and prayer were given by Rev. A. L. Crandall of the Loyal Free Methodist Church.

A cafeteria luncheon was served to approximately 125 relatives and guests. Gold paper bells decorated the room, and gold nasturtiums and floral arrangements of yellow and white ‘mums provided centerpieces for the tables.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard C. Larson, Jr., provided a musical selection, and three selections were played by the honored couple’s grandchildren, Mary, Jim and Linda Larson, all of Macomb, Ill. The Larsons’ received a purse of money.

The Larsons’ were married October 16, 1891, in Moline, Ill.; with the Rev. E. W. Thompson of Rock Island, Ill., performing the ceremony. They resided in Silvis, Ill., from 1913 until 1919, when they purchased and moved onto a farm three and one-half miles, northeast of Greenwood. After spending 16 years there they moved onto the former Joe Zenz farm, three-quarters of a mile west of Loyal. They sold this farm to their younger son when they retired in 1955.

The Larsons’ have five children: Mrs. Fred (Athalie) Bennett and Miss Clarabelle Larson, both of Eau Claire; Dennis W. Larson of Rt. 2, Loyal; Mrs. Earl R. (Julia Ann) Schomehorn of Long Beach, Calif.; and Richard Charles Larson of Macomb, Ill. There are 10 grandchildren.

A celebration was held Saturday afternoon, October 10 at the Loyal Methodist Church parlors in honor of the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Richard E. Larson of Loyal.

A cafeteria luncheon was served to approximately 125 relatives and guests.  The church parlor was decorated with gold paper bells and gold and white mums, with table decorations of gold colored nasturtiums.

Mrs. Larson wore a corsage of yellow rose buds and Mr. Larson, a boutonniere of yellow carnation.

The luncheon was opened with an introduction and welcome, and a prayer by Rev. A.L. Crandall of the Loyal Free Methodist Church.

The couple was entertained by their immediate family.  A duet of some of the favorite musical numbers of Mr. and Mrs. Larson was given by their son, Richard Jr. and his wife; also a violin trio by the grandchildren, Mary, Jim and Linda Larson of Macomb, Illinois.  A purse of money was received and many congratulatory cards.

Mr. and Mrs. Larson were united in marriage October 16, 1913, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Huber of Moline.  The officiating clergy was Rev. E.W. Thompson of Rock Island, Illinois, of the Methodist Church.

Mrs. Larson (? Christine Schultz) was born April 26, 1892 at Chicago Illinois to Amelia and Gustave Schultz.  She was educated in the Chicago Heights Public School at Silvis, Illinois.  Her occupation was clerking and bookkeeping.  Mrs. Larson was a member of the Free Methodist Church and Swedish Mission.  After her marriage she was employed for six years by the Rock Island Lines.  Later they moved to Greenwood and Loyal area from 1919 to 1955 where Mr. Larson was a farmer.  He retired in 1955.

Mr. Larson was born October 8, 1891 at Herman, Nebraska, the son of Charles and Mary Larson.  He was educated at the Herman and Blair Public Schools in Nebraska.  He did general farm work in Nebraska until 1909 and then was employed by the Rock Island Lines at Silvis, Illinois from 1909 until 1910. He was a member of the Silvis Methodist Church and is now a member of the Free Methodist Church of Loyal.  He served on the Greenwood School Board for eight years.

They have five children, Mrs. Fred(Athalie) Bennett and Miss Clarabell Larson of Eau Claire; Richard Charles Larson of Macomb, Illinois; Dennis W. Larson of Loyal and Mrs. Carl R. Schomehorn (Julia Ann) of Long Beach, California.   They also have ten grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Larson are both in good health and have the well wishes of all their friends in this community.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Lato of Gilman celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary on June 2, 1974 at the Lato residence.

Members of the original wedding party present were Mrs. Henry Kopacz of Wisconsin Rapids and Mr. Joe Lato of Thorp. A third attendant, Mrs. Hillard Michalek of Chicago, Illinois was unable to attend.

All six of the Lato children were present. They are Vivian, Kathi and Patti at home; Wayne, attending college in River Falls, Mrs. Susan Robinson, attending college in La Crosse, and Mrs. Diane Taylor of Gilman.

About 125 friends, neighbors, and relatives attended the reception.

The couple enjoyed a beautiful reception and were grateful for the lovely weather that allowed everyone to have an enjoyable afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Louie Lautenbach, Clark County natives who have spent nearly all their married years in the Town of Levis, will observed their Golden wedding anniversary on Saturday, April 29. The event will be marked with an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Calvary Lutheran Church.

Louie Lautenbach, the son of the late Otto and Rosie Lautenbach, was born in the Town of Grant in 1900. Mrs. Lautenbach, the former Martha Opelt is the daughter of the late Max, Sr. and Phoebe Opelt. She was born in the Town of Lynn a year later than her husband.

The Lautenbach’s were married April 26, 1922, at the parsonage of what is now Zion American Lutheran Church in the town of Grant. They recall that the Rev. J. Reiff performed the ceremony entirely in German. The attendants were his sister, Ruth, Mrs. Helmuth Schultz of rural Neillsville, and her brother, Max Opelt, Jr., of Granton.

Mr. and Mrs. Lautenbach operated an 80-acre dairy farm in the Town of Levis from 1925 until 1960. They were employed at the Pineview School from 1960 until 1965, and are now enjoying retirement at their farm home. Both are members of Calvary Lutheran Church. Mrs. Lautenbach is an active member of the church’s ALCW group and has been a member of the Altar circle for several years.

Before their marriage, Mrs. Lautenbach worked in a bakery at Buffalo, N. Y. and Mrs. Lautenbach was employed in local area sawmills. During the 1930’s both were members of the Dux orchestra, which provided music at the Riverside Dance Hall and at other dance spots. For approximately nine years Mr. Lautenbach, who was a violinist, played a saxophone in the orchestra and his wife played the piano. She served a well as pianist for the Women of the Moose, of which she was a member.

The Lautenbach’s are the parents of a son, Leroy, who lives at New Berlin with his family. There are three grandchildren, Linda (Mrs. James Zimmerman) of Milwaukee, Larry of Mississippi and Larraine, at home; and two great-grandchildren, Lisa and Shawn Zimmerman. All plan to attend the anniversary observance Satruday.

Other family members who expect to be present include Mrs. Lautenbach’s sister, Lillian, (Mrs. Paul Martin) of Corvallis, Or, and her three brothers, Carl and Art of rural Neillsville and Max of Granton; and Mr. Lautenbach’s brother, Victor, of Granton and his three sisters, Ruth, (Mrs. Helmuth Schultz) and Laura (Mrs. Fred Wall) of Neillsville and Hilda (Mrs. Harry Kuehn) of rural Granton. The brothers and sisters plan to attend the observance together with members of their families.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Lavene, Rt. 1 Neillsville, observed their Silver wedding anniversary Saturday, with an open house at the Wildcat Inn from 2 to 4 p.m. A dance followed in the evening.

Three of the Lavene’s attendants were present. They are Mrs. Alvin Goutcher, Spencer; Mrs. Ted Briski, Greenwood; and Edwin Langfeldt, Racine. Mrs. Goutcher, who is Mrs. Lavene’s sister, is also the mother of Mrs. Briski. The fourth member of the wedding party, James Hallowell, Loyal, was unable to attend.

The anniversary cake was baked as a gift by the Lavene’s niece, Mrs. Harold Drescher.

Friends and relatives from Loyal, Spencer, Greenwood, Marshfield, Unity, Withee, Owen, Chili, Thorp, Racine, Edgar, Wisconsin Rapids, Granton, and St. Paul, Minn., as well as from Neillsville, were present for the event.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Lavene celebrated their Silver Anniversary Saturday, October 17, 1970 at the Wildcat Inn. The reception was in the afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. Their attendants from 25 years ago that attended were her sister, Mrs. Alvin Goutcher, Spencer; her niece, Mrs. Ted Briski Mr. Edwin , Greenwood; Mr. Edwin Langfeldt from Racine. James Hallowell, Loyal, another attendant was unable to attend.

Guests attending were from Loyal, Spencer, Greenwood, Marshfield, Unity, Withee, Owen, Chili, Thorp, Racine, Edgar, Wis. Rapids, Neillsville, Granton, St. Paul and Minneapolis.

A dance was held in the evening at Wildcat Inn. The anniversary cake was made by Mrs. Harold Drescher, a niece of Mrs. Lavene.

A large crowd attended the 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Lavene, Saturday night at the Sportsman’s Club in Granton. A mock wedding was held with Rickey Lavene as preacher.

On Sunday, a large group had dinner at the Lavene’s, and gifts were opened.

To celebrate his 50th anniversary in Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), Ross Lawrence, 76, President of Peoples Exchange Bank, gave a party at Roberts Club near Jim Falls for about 20 persons, which included directors of the bank and close friends.

On honoring “the oldest businessman on the street and the oldest continuous business” Wednesday evening, Dec 26th, the group enjoyed refreshments, a banquet and played cards.

Mr. Lawrence began his banking career in Thorp on Dec. 26th, 1912 and was soon made cashier in 1913. Since that time he has served as cashier, Executive Vice President and President.

He stated to the Thorp Courier that he is now with his fourth board of directors of the bank. “All of the first two boards have passed away,” Mr. Lawrence said, “an only one is left from the third board, while two have passed away out of the present board.”

When asked by the editor what outstanding experience he came across during his banking career here, he stated: “there were many and that which comes to mind now is the bank robbery and a woman who wanted to shoot me because we could not make a loan on a horse and wagon.”

Although banking in a small town has kept Mr. Lawrence very busy, he still found time for civic duties. He served as president of the Norhtern Wis. Bankers in 1929, a member of the Thorp School Board for 16 years and village trustee for 6 years. Presently her serves on the cemetery board here and is a member of the Clark County Court Commission.

Before coming to Thorp, Ross started his banking career at Owen in 1909 and is June 1960 was initiated in the “Fifty Year Club” at Milwaukee by the Wis. Bankers Association.

On that occasion a banquet was held in his honor by local directors and employees, presenting him with a silver tray engraved with signatures of the Board of Directors and personnel of the bank.

The Rev. Pius Leabel, C.P., of the Passionist Monastery, Sierra Madre, California is the director of the Preachers Workshop. Father Pius was born in Loyal and graduated from the Catholic school in Loyal in June 1913 and is a graduate of St. Lawrence College, Mt. Calvary. He obtained his training in Philosophy and Theology in St. Louis and Cincinnati. He received his Master's Degree at De Paul University, Chicago, has done post-graduate work at the University of Detroit, the University of Chicago, and Catholic University, Washington, D.C. He originated the first Workshops in the Los Angeles Archdiocese and has demonstrated Workshop techniques at both the Denver and Boston Conventions of the Homiletic Society and conducted Workshops last summer at Chicago, Mt. Angel, Oregon and Wichita, Kansas. A "preacher's preacher," Father Pius, for thirty consecutive years, has been teaching newly ordained priests and conducting a regular "Refresher Course" in preaching for the priests of the Western Province of the Passionate Fathers.

Father Pius will celebrate his 50th anniversary Mass in the Passionist Order on Sunday, at 8 a.m. August 4, at St. Anthony's Church, Loyal.  

Learn, Mr./Mrs. Howard (60th – 5 Nov 1974)

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Learn celebrated their 60th wedding Anniversary November 24, 1973 with an open house reception at the Hannibal Gym. Approximately 125 guests and relatives attended.

The couple were presented with many nice gifts and cash.

Miss Hazel Pierce and Mrs. Learn were married at Osterdock November 5, 1913. They have three children, Velma, Mrs. Clarence Shufelt of Hannibal; Emmet of Manhatten, Montana and Howard of Colesburg, Iowa; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

They lived on a farm until they moved here to Hannibal in 1933, where they began farming, and are still farming with a few black angus cattle.

The Learns have been an asset to the community. He furnished wood for the people in town, put up ice for the business people and plowed their gardens. They have been active in church work. Mrs. Learn was pianist and served on the church board as trustee for a number of years. She taught Sunday School for 40 years, was Superintendent of Sunday School for 18 years, a member of Ladies Aid for 40 years, and a member of Work Basket for 25 years; and with the help of Mrs. Franklin Williams and Mrs. Ray White, organized a community club; with the help of town chairman Mr. Clark and the men around, made the town park. The ladies bought a picnic table, fireplace and swings. She was a 4-H leader for 10 years and the club made a lawn at the church, grubbed stumps and planted trees. She was a cook at the Hannibal School for 11 years, served as Justice of the Peace for 2 terms; has been Health Officer for 16 years and was correspondent for the Star News and Thorp Courier for a number of years.

They are the oldest couple in Hannibal.

West Fremont -- Relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Lee on Friday evening to help them celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary. The evening was spent socially and gifts were presented to the honor couple.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest W. Lee were married on June 30, 1909, at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. William Atkin, Withee, with the Rev. Mr. Rowe of the Owen Congregational Church officiating. They resided on the T. F. Lee farm, near Granton, for six years and in 1914 purchased a farm near Chil, where they have made their home since.

They have been members of Immanuel Evangelical Church, Chili, for the past several years. Mrs. Lee is also affiliated with the Ladies Aid and Woman’s Missionary Society.

Mr. Lee has served as clerk of the Town of Fremont for the past 23 years, and was re-elected for another year at the spring election. The couple have three sons, Wenzel and Marion Lee, who resided on farms west of Chili, and Robert E. Lee, at home. They have two grandchildren, Roger Jerry and Constance Ann Lee.

Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Legault celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at a family reunion dinner at their home on Saturday, Sept. 26th, 1936. One of the remarkable features of this couple is their youthful appearance and their ability to still enjoy life. Mr. Legault is seventy-one and Mrs. Legault is sixty-five.

The union was blessed with six children, four of whom were present to help their parents celebrate the occasion. The eldest son, L.H. LeGault passed away in 1918 and the eldest daughter, Mrs. E.J. Regan of Chicago, could not attend. Immediate relatives who were present for the event were: Dr. and Mrs. G.A. LeGault and Mr. and Mrs. H.B. Palms of Owen; Mr. and Mrs. A.C. A Billman family reunion was held Sunday at the Clarence Billman home at Plainfield, while Mr. and Mrs. Andrrew Billman and Kenneth and Mr. and Jerry Billman and Michael, of Belle Gardens, Calif., are here. It was also the occasion of the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Art Leichtnam and the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Billman.
 

Mr. and Mrs. Art Leichtnam and Billy were accompanied to Plainfield by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Leichtnam and two children, of Marshfield. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Blair, Abbotsford, and Mrs. Emma Billman, Colby, also attended.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur (Ruth) Leichtnam of Abbotsford celebrated their golden wedding anniversary October 8 with an open house at the Abbotsford City Hall, a dinner at First Presbyterian Church, Abbotsford and a dance at City Hall. Bob and Bill Leichtnam emceed the anniversary event.

Leichtnam, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward (Rose Tischendorf) Leichtnam, Abbotsford, who was born August 30, 1912 at Abbotsford, and the former Ruth Billman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Billman, Colby, were married October 11, 1933 at Zion Lutheran parsonage, Colby.

They farmed four years near Abbotsford, managed grocery stores at Colby, Abbotsford, Owen and Stanley until 1950 and worked at Streckert's Door Factory at Abbotsford and Pathfinder Mobile Homes, Spencer.

The Leichtnams have two sons, Bob of Clarkston, Michigan, and Bill of Nekoosa. They had a stillborn daughter, Patsy, in 1947. There are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Leichtnam's hobby is woodworking; his wife's are knitting and crocheting. They are members of First Presbyterian Church, Abbotsford, of which he is a past deacon and she a member of the S.T.A.R. Circle.

One attendant at the 1933 nuptials present was Mrs. Milton (Emma) Meske of Abbotsford.

The anniversary couple received greetings from President and Mrs. Ronald Reagan.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lenz, Route 3, Neillsville, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on March 17, by holding open house for friends and relatives at the Stables Night Club west of Neillsville.  Supper was served to approximately 175 guests, who came to extend their congratulations to the honored couple.
 

Fred Lenz and Minnie Dux were married at the Neillsville courthouse on  March 17, 1903.  They farmed most of the time in the Town of Weston until a few years ago.  Then they bought a small place in the Town of Hewett, where they are not living in retirement.  They are the parents of one daughter; Mrs. Paul (Martha) Albrecht, who planned the celebration for them. They also have one grandson, Louis Albrecht.

Mr. and Mrs. E.O. Leonard, of this city, were honored on their golden wedding anniversary last Sunday, when their neighborhood friends surprised them at a little coffee hour, in their honor.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard were married in Humbird, Wisconsin, on April 2, 1913. Just one month later they came to Montana, on May 2nd, taking up a homestead about nine miles north of Virgelle in the Spring Coulee section, where they lived for many years. We note that back in 1948, the Spring Coulee neighbors helped them celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary.

The Leonards retired from the farm in 1949, and moved to Fort Benton, where they have since resided.

On Tuesday August Lepke and Johanna, his wife, celebrated their golden wedding in a most fitting manner. A ceremony at the Catholic Church at 9 a.m. was followed by a gathering at the home of a host of relatives and friends, the Catholic Ladies Society attending as a body.

There was a bounteous dinner and a happy social time. Many fine presents were given, most of them being gold.

Mr. and Mrs. Lepke were married in Germany and came to this country in 1872, making their home in Neillsville, Clark County ever since. Mr. Lepke is 77 years old and his good wife is 72. Together they have walked the road of life for fifty years and shared their joys and burdens. They are good and worthy people and are respected by all who know them. They have reared to manhood four sons, Frank of Neillsville, Mike of Waupaca, John of Richland Center and Joseph in Montana; also one daughter, Mrs. Matt Resong, living northwest of Neillsville. We join with other friends in wishing them still many years of happy life.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lesniewski, 98 E. 13th Street, Antioch, California observed their 40th wedding anniversary June 12, 1974 at the Marchetti’s Club of Antioch, California, with a dinner hosted by their five children.

The Lesniewski’s were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Wausau, June 12, 1934.

The Lesniewski’s, formerly of Thorp, are owners of the Home Radio and TV, member of the Pittsburg Little League Team. Joseph was a former pilot for the local CAP unite, members of the Holy Rosary Parish, former members of the Contra Costa Building and Trade Council representing the Electricians Union Pioneered Television in Contra Costa County, has been in business in Contra Costa County since 1944. Joseph is a member of the ZP (Polish National Alliance Lodge).

Their children are: (Shirley) Mrs. William Morgan, (Barbara) Mrs. James Whitely, (Connie) Mrs. Robert VanPelt, Joseph and (June) Mrs. Robert Haynes. They have ten grandchildren, Faith Morgan Camann, Jeanette and Paul Whitely, Anthony and Troy VanPelt, Chad, Joel and Amy Lesniewski, Wendy and Shirley Haynes, and one great-grandson, Christopher Camann.

Joseph is the son of Mrs. Mary Lesniewski of Thorp, and Mary is the sister of Mrs. Frances Smigaj of Thorp.

Celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary on June 18 will be Darol and Margaret Lewis. The couple were married by the Rev. Jack Grether of the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Neillsville. Margaret was born in Loyal and moved to Neillsville as a young girl. She graduated from Neillsville High., Darol was born and raised on a family farm near Augusta and graduated from that community’s high school. The Lewis’s now reside on Rt. 1 Neillsville, and farm 160 acres. The Lewis’s have four children, Todd, Brad and Glen all at home, and David of Rt. 4 Neillsville. Their first grandchild is expected in November.

Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Lezotte, 218 Division Street, Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.), celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a dinner for the immediate family on Saturday, October 4, 1975, at the Amber Inn, Loyal, with an Open House at the Star Lodge Motel on Sunday, October 5 from 2 – 4 p.m.

Mr. and Mrs. Lezotte were married October 15, 1925 at Winona, Minnesota. They lived in Merrillan, Wisconsin for 20 eyars, then moved to Neillsville, where they lived for 30 eyars. They moved to Loyal in September 1974.

Mr. Lezotte was employed at the Nelson Muffler Company at Neillsville for 23 years, retiring in 1969. His hobbies are fishing and hunting.

Mrs. Lezotte enjoys flowers and home decorating, and also states that she loves housework and cooking.

One of the original attendants, Mrs. Laura (Simmenson) Gee, was present for the celebration.

Mr. and Mrs. Lezotte are the parents of two children, Mrs. Harold (Lorraine) Francis, Loyal, and Glenn Lezotte Jr., Stoughton, Wisconsin. They have seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

A granddaughter, Dr. and Mrs. Gordon Gross and son Eric flew from Scottsdale, Arizona to be present. Other guests were from Loyal, Neenah, Wausau, Neillsville, Beloit, Merrillan, Alma Center, Janesville, and Stoughton.

The Star Lodge Motel in Loyal was the setting last Sunday afternoon for the golden wedding anniversary open house of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Lezotte, Sr., of Loyal, and former Neillsville residents.

Fall flowers in golden hues decorated the tables. The main table was centered with a wedding cake. Mrs. Marie Vajgrt poured.

The Lezottes moved to Loyal in 1974 after living in Neillsville for 23 years. Mr. Lezotte worked at Nelson Muffler until his retirement in 1969. They are members of the Loyal Methodist Church.

While in Neillsville, Mrs. Lezotte had taken care of older people. She attended the first class for nurses aids held at the new Neillsville Memorial Hospital and was employed there for a number of years.

Mrs. Lezotte, the former Eva Haberl, was born in Sparta and received her education in Merrillan. Her parents were Myrtle and Fred Haberl.

Better known as “Bud,” Mr. Lezotte was born in Neillsville where he received his education. His parents were Lydia and Anthony Lezotte.

After their marriage in Winona, Mn., October 15, 1925, they lived in Merrillan, where he owned and operated a garage for 20 years.

Both take care of a garden and he enjoys fishing and hunting in his spare time. She likes to arrange flowers and take care of terrariums but cooking and housework are her favorite occupations.

They are parents of two children, Mrs. Harold (Lorraine) Francis of Loyal, and Glenn Lezotte, Jr., of Stoughton. There are seven grandchildren and 11-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Laura (Simenson) Gee, one of the original attendants, was present for the celebration. A granddaughter, Linda, and her husband, Dr. Gordon Gross, and son, Eric, of Scottsdale, Az., flew here for the event. Other friends and relatives came from Wausau, Neenah, Beloit, Neillsville, Merrillan, Janesville, Alma Center, Stoughton and Loyal.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lincoln celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at their home Sunday, June 22. The celebration was planned by their children, daughters, Jean, Lorraine and Norma , son Charles and Jerry and son-in-law, Jack Tanner. Albert Lincoln and Violet Felgenhauer were united in marriage April 25, 1936, at Harvard, IL. They were unable to celebrate in April so postponed it until June. Relatives and close friends from Harvard and Elgin, IL; Beloit, Janesville, Waupaca, Alma Center, Neillsville, Minneapolis, MN; Hutchinson, MN; Sun City, AZ were in attendance. His brother, Glen Lincoln of Harvard, an attendant at the wedding, was in attendance.

The party was held on their lawn in a large tent and lunch was served by the hostesses. A lovely three-tiered wedding cake, made and decorated by their daughter, Jean, was served also. The couple was presented with many lovely gifts.

The members of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Neillsville observed the 25th anniversary of the ordination of Pastor Norman Lindloff and the 25th wedding anniversary of Pastor and Mrs. Lindloff on Sunday, July 14.

Ladies of the congregation prepared and served a 5 o’clock dinner to 112 relatives, classmates, church council members and their families, and friends.

A 7 p.m. service of thanksgiving was held with the Rev. Raymond Schultz of Wausau as guest speaker and the Rev. Lyle Lindloff of Thiensville as liturgist. St. John’s choir directed by Victor Lehmann, sang “Beside Still Waters, Thou Leadeth Me.” There was also congregational singing.

A reception was held at St. John’s School after the service. The Rev. William Lange of Wisconsin Rapids acted as toastmaster. The Misses Helene and Petra Kalsow, were in charge of the guest book.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lindner will be married fifty years on September 8th, 1939, but celebrated the event on Sunday because that was a convenient time for their children to be present. Those present Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cortney and two children of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lindner and two children of Owen and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Benzmann of Milan.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Lindner were born in Germany. Mrs. Lindner was born July 8th, 1871, and came to the United States in 1887, moving directly to Dorchester, Wis. Mr. Lindner came to the United States in 1881 and also moved directly to Dorchester, Wis. They were married in that village on Sept. 8th, 1889, where they lived until 1910 when they moved to Colby. Mr. Lindner worked for the Soo Line from 1881 to 1927 when he retired.

They have two children, Mrs. Fred Cortney of Chicago and Arthur Lindner of Owen, Wis. Also four grandchildren. Mrs. Paul Benzmann of Milan and Mrs. Lindner of Colby are sisters.

They have one daughter, Lorna, and two sons, Lawrence and Milton, all at home.

A short program consisting of instrumental music by Mrs. Albert Grimm, readings by Lorna Lindow and Verna Happe, and "Home Sweet Home" by the assembly was given. Mr. and Mrs. Lindow received many gifts.

After their marriage they lived for one year on the Otto Drescher farm, and then resided in Chili for three years. Twenty-six years ago they moved to the farm on which they now live.

Mr. Lindow was the rural mail carrier on the Chili route for 12 years. Both he and his wife have been members of the Immanuel Evangelical Church and Sunday School since their youth. Mrs. Lindow is also a member of the Ladies Aid Society and the Woman’s Missionary Society.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lindow, former residents of the Town of Fremont now residing in Marshfield, observed their golden wedding at the Evangelical United Brethren Church at Chili, Saturday evening.

Lucinda Happe and Charles Lindow were married May 19, 1909, in Chili by the bride’s brother, Rev. E. A. Happe. Three of the four attendants at their wedding were present Saturday evening: Mrs. Edward Ott and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lindow.

The couple have three daughters:  Mrs. Albert (Helen) Grimm, Chili; Miss Marian Lindow, Marshfield; and Mrs. George (Caroline) Fitz of Appleton; two grandchildren, Linda and Gary Fitz.

A program followed the supper, which was served by the Ladies Aid.  Rev. Melvin Rhoerdanz was the master of ceremonies.  Special songs were sung by Rev. E. S. Antrim and Mrs. Rudy Horn, Linda and Gary Fitz, Marlyn Lindow and Mrs. Fitz, Mrs. Albert Grimm and Miss Marian Lindow.

Mr. and Mrs. William G. Lindow of Rt. 1 Chili will be honored Sunday at an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. in Immanuel United Methodist Church parlors in Chili in honor of the Golden wedding anniversary.

They were feted by their children and grandchildren at a dinner in Wisconsin Rapids on the actual date of the anniversary, June 5. They were married June 5, 1918, in the Evangelical Church then located two miles southwest of Chili, by the Rev. W. F. Schuelke.

Mr. Lindow was born January 7, 1898, on the farm, where they still reside. His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Gustave Lindow. In addition to farming the land homesteaded by his parents, Mr. Lindow owned the first school bus to serve Marshfield High School. He drove bus for 27 years, retiring in 1964. He has been a lifelong member of the Evangelical church, now the United Methodist Church, in Chili. He enjoys hunting and fishing.

Mrs. Lindow, the former Mary Anna Drescher, was born October 16, 1898, on Rt. 1 Chili, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernhardt Drescher. She also is a member of the Chili church. Both Mr. and Mrs. Lindow are in good health.

They are the parents of a son, Marlyn, of Chili; and a daughter, Mrs. Rudy (Elvera) Horn of Stevens Point. They also have four grandchildren.

Members of the original wedding party were Ezra Drescher, deceased; Mrs. Harry Schlinsog of Loyal, sister of Mrs. Lindow; Mrs. John E. Leonard of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Amos Lindow of Janesville. The latter two will be unable to attend the open house Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Lis were honored by their children at a dinner and supper on October 12, 1969 at the Colburn Town Hall at Huron to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. The hall was decorated with gold and white streamers. The tables were decorated with seasonal flowers and a two tier anniversary cake.

Sue Lis, Linda and Betty Hudak, and Sandra Lis, granddaughters served the cake.

For the special occasion Mrs. Lis wore a brown suit, to which a cymbidium orchid and gold mus were pinned. Mr. Lis had a gold boutonniere pinned to his blue-gray suit.

Mr. Bruno Lis married the former Sophie Czerwinski on October 13, 1919 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin (Taylor Co.), Wis. They spent most of their married life on a farm near Lublin. Mr. Lis also was a cattle dealer for many years. Prior to retiring in 1954, they also operated the Bellinger Club for several years. Mr. Lis was born on June 20, 1895 to Joseph and Mary Lis in Poland. He came to America as a young man and served in the army during World War I.

Sophie Czerwinski was born on December 23, 1903 to Andrew and Mary Czerwinski in Poland. She came to this country as a young girl with her parents and brothers.

Their attendants of fifty years ago were: Mrs. Pauline Kramicz of Thorp, Mary Bartoszewski of Chicago, Jennie Grendzinski of Texas, Frances Chmilewski (deceased), John Czerwinski of Lublin, Walter Czerwinski of Gary, Indiana, Mr. Frank Kotecki (deceased), Stanley Pikarz of Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Adam Czerwinski of Wausau were ring bearer and flower girl.

The attendants who were present were: John Czerwinski and Mr. and Mrs. Adam Czerwinski. The men attendants had white boutonnieres with gold leaf, and Mrs. Czerwinski had a corsage of mums and yellow roses.

All their children and grandchildren were present. Mr. and Mrs. Lis are the parents of six sons, Frank of Gilman, Edward of Huron, Stanley of Bellinger, Bruno Jr. of Huron, All of Rhinelander, Tony of Huron; and four daughters, Mrs. Felix (Bernice) Nowak of Lublin, Mrs. Pete (Helen) Hudak of Huron, Mrs. Joe (Stella) Klisiewicz of Huron, Mrs. Louis (Sophie) Bandur of Huron. There are 28 grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lloyd’s Golden Wedding anniversary will occur on December 5, the observance of the day being set for November 26, as a more opportune time for their children to come home. They were here for the weekend and a family reunion took place on Saturday evening when supper was served to the group at the paternal home on South Grand Avenue.

On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd kept open house to their friends, a large number calling on them to bring personal greetings and good wishes for the years to come. They also received cards, letters and messages from those who could not come in person, also many gifts.

Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd were married at Neillsville by the Methodist minister, Rev. Foster, in the parsonage which was the house now occupied by the Otto Lewerenz family on December 5, 1894. They lived on a farm in the town of Pine Valley until 1924, when they sold the farm and moved to their present home in Neillsville.

One son, Pvt. Thomas Lloyd of Rowell, N. M., is the only one of the children unable to attend the anniversary observance. The children who came were: Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Hansen, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Lloyd and Calvert Lloyd, Union Grove; and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Flint and three children, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The children who resided here are: Mr. and Mrs. Byno Lloyd, Pine Valley, and Mrs. Vera Shumway, Neillsville.

Two daughters and one son are deceased, Tina, Mrs. Joe Funk, and May Lloyd, and Luie, who died in World War I, and is buried in England. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd have 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Cheryl Alice Wankovich, who was born on November 18, is the youngest member of the family.

Approximately 100 well-wishing friends attended an Open House recently in honor of the Rev. and Mrs. David Logue in the Zion United Church of Christ.

The festivities began with a 25th wedding anniversary service at 10:30 a.m. Special vocal selections were a wedding solo, Savior like a Shepherd lead us,” by the Rev. Mr. Logue, dedicated to Mrs. Logue; and the choir sang, “Love One Another,” with Miss Dawn Ystad as organist.

The words of celebration were prayed in unison.

All five of the Logues’ children were present. They are: Sharon, a student at nursing school in Madison, and her fiancé Norman Rogers, also of Madison; Larry, taking pre-law at the University at Eau Claire; Gregory a freshman; Jeanette, fourth grade; and Vincent, second grade.

David Logue and the former Mary Lou Wade were married November 4, 1948, in Los Angeles, Ca. They came from California to Greenwood seven years ago.

Special gifts received by the honored couple were a set of cookware from their children; a corsage, boutonniere, and table arrangement of flowers from the Zion Women’s Guild; a monetary gift from the Salem Aid; anniversary cake from the Adult Fellowship; and a money tree from the Zion congregation. The room was decorated with streamers and bells.

Gary Schultz, accompanied by Mrs. Schultz on the piano, sang, “Always.”

Mrs. Larry Dallman had charge of the guest book and Mrs. Theodore Abel was general hostess, assisted by the women of the church.

An anniversary supper was served.

People attended from Madison, Eau Claire, Loyal, Willard, Curtiss and the Greenwood area.

Pastor David and Mary Lou Logue celebrated their 25th anniversary Sunday, November 4, 1973. Dave and Mary Lou were married in Los Angeles on November 4, 1948, by Rev. Dudley Girod, youth pastor of the Church of the Open Door of that city.

Zion United Church of Christ joined with the Logues in a special service for the occasion, including a choral number "Love One Another," sung by Linda Dallman, Anna Vollrath, Leanne, Jill, Kathy and Lori Larsen. Dawn Ystad was the pianist. Pastor Logue sand a hymn used in their original ceremony, "Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us." The service also included wedding vows.

In the afternoon a reception and supper were held in the church parlors from 2 to 5, with nearly 100 friends present. Among the many lovely gifts were a Silver money tree from the Church, a beautiful cake presented by Zion Adult Fellowship and baked by Mrs. Carolyn Kohlnhofer. A beautiful flor centerpiece, Mrs. Logue's corsage, and Pastor Logue's boutonniere were gifts from Zion Ladies Fellowship.

Special music for the afternoon was a solo, "Always," sung by Gary Schultz, with his wife, Rochelle, accompanying him on the piano.

Mrs. Logue looked lovely in a full length pink and silver gown, which she made for the occasion. Home for the celebration were Sharon Logue and her fiancé, Norman Rogers, both students at the UW, Madison, and Larry Logue from the UW, Eau Claire.

The three children at home yet are Greg, Jeanette and Vince.

Among the one hundred and fifty guests who greeted the Rev. and Mrs. G. W. Longenecker on their golden wedding anniversary Tuesday, only one of them, Ben S. Longenecker, youngest brother of Mr. Longenecker, of Leonidas, Michigan, was present at the original wedding, which took place at the home of Mrs. Longenecker’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Ernst, of Mendon, Mich., August fifth, 1891. The children, grandchildren and other relatives of the couple gathered at Sunset Point, the home of the Longeneckers Tuesday to help them celebrate the event. In the evening a reception and program were held at the Congregational church where The Rev. Longenecker has served as pastor for 33 years. Present to greet the couple were members of practically every denomination in Neillsville and friends from the entire countryside. Rev. Ben Stucki of the Winnebago Indian Mission School, opened the program with a prayer while Rev. Obed Asp of the Methodist church, pronounced the benediction. Mrs. A. Unger gave a reading, "The Worn Wedding Ring." She also gave two readings which were written by Mrs. Maxine Winkler of Marshfield, a niece of Mrs. A. E. Wilding, entitled "A Tribute," and "To Mr. and Mrs. Longenecker on their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary." Dr. Sarah Rosekrans sang the lovely solo, "Reverence," the words of which were written by Mr. Longenecker in the fall of 1911, inspired by the beautiful mountain scenery which lay before him, while waiting for a train at a railroad station at Lehi, Utah. The doctor also sang "I Love You," in the Norwegian language. The Rev. Longenecker read three of his poems. One of them, "My Rose," was written as a tribute to the "bride" for the anniversary occasion. After the program, the guest were invited to the dining room where refreshments were served. A table, arranged for the guests o honor, was decorated with a miniature wedding arrangement, yellow tapers and a beautiful four-tier wedding cake..(rest of copy cut-off)

Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Loos will be married 50 years tomorrow, Friday, June 20. They were married on June 20, 1897, at Potters, Wis. Mr. Loos was born at Kiel, Wis., on April 17, 1873, and Mrs. Loos was born at Potters, Wis., on June 16, 1879. They came to Colby in 1902 and Mr. Loos operated the machine shop in this city until 1945, when his two sons, Vernon and Clinton, took over.

Mr. and Mrs. Loos have five children - Sherman, Vernon and Clinton, of Colby, Mrs. Richard Reyer of Two Rivers and Mrs. Earl Starkey of Seymour, Ind.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Loos of Colby were the guests of honor at a surprise party and dinner Saturday, Sept. 17, in observance of their 45th wedding anniversary. The celebration began with a 7:30 p.m. dinner at Medo-Farms Restaurant in Abbotsford where the anniversary couple were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Sauer, Eunice and Clifford; Darrel and Dean Loos, all of Colby; Mrs. Catherine Sauer, Medford; Mrs. Veryl Auberg, Owen and Miss Ann Singstock, Colby. Mrs. Loos was presented a corsage of white carnations with sapphire blue accents, and Mr. Loos, a white carnation boutonniere.

After dinner, the group drove to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Sauer to join the guests who had arrived for the celebration. Among the guests were all the attendants of the original wedding party in 1921. They are Mrs. Ben (Esther) Krohn, Wausau, sister of the bride; Mrs. Ervin (Irma) Fischer, Unity, sister of the groom; Ervin Riemer, Athens, the bride’s brother and Ed Voelker, Marshfield, a cousin to the groom. All the attendants were presented corsages and boutonnieres of white carnations with blue sapphire accents.

Other guests included the marriage partners of the attendants, above; Mr. Loos’ sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Stuempke, Elmhurst, Ill., and relatives, friends and neighbors from Wausau, Marshfield, Medford, Owen, Athens, Colby, Unity, Abbotsford, Stratford, and the surrounding area. During the evening the anniversary couple received a telephone call from their daughter, Mrs. Merton (Lorraine) Morrow, Virginia Beach, Va.

The home was decorated with blue and white streamers and wedding bells, and three wedding cakes were provided by Mrs. Veryl Auberg, Owen, Mrs. Wendel Creasey, Stratford, and Mrs. Irvin Meyer, Colby.

The couple received many cards and gifts. Entertainment included dancing to the music furnished by friends, and card playing. A late lunch was served by the surprise party committee.

Walter, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Loos, was born in 1896 in the town of Schleiswig, Manitowoc county, and received his education at Louies Corners, Manitowoc county, and at Colby where he and his parents moved during his boyhood.

Mrs. Loos, the former Nina Reimer, was born in 1902 in the town of Halsey to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Riemer. She attended schools in the town of Halsey, and lived there until her marriage.

Walter Loos and Nina Riemer were united in marriage September 17, 1921, at the Lutheran church in the town of Hamburg, Marathon county, with Rev. Victor Gruber officiating. They are the parents of five children, Mrs. Herbert (Marcella) Sauer, Colby; Mrs. Merton (Lorraine) Morrow, Virginia Beach, Va.; Darrel, Colby; Mrs. Ed (Emilie) Klappel, Stratford, and Dean, at home.

They have 11 grand children.

After their marriage, the Loos’ farmed until 1950, when Mr. Loos became employed by the Roddis Manufacturing Plant, Marshfield, now known as the Weyerhaeuser Company. He worked there 14 years, until his retirement two years ago.

They are members of the United Church of Christ, Colby, and Mrs. Loos is a member of the Women’s Guild and the OAO Homemakers club. Mrs. Robert Riemer has made her home with them until recently, and is now a patient at the Marshfield Convalescent home.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lowe began the celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary with attendance at church, Sunday. Both are members of the Presbyterian church.

Dinner was served at noon at their home in Abbotsford to members of the family and a few friends.

Roy Lowe and Clara Jones were married at Hixton Nov. 23, 28, 1900, at the home of her parents. Mr. Lowe taught in Trempealeau and Jackson county schools and for a number of years, was a railroad mail clerk and later operated a farm. Mrs. Lowe was a skilled seamstress.

In 1952, the Lowes retired from farming and moved to Abbotsford.

They have four children, Sherman, of Milwaukee; Wesley, of Eau Claire; Mrs. Howard (Ruth) Cendt, of Wausau; and Mrs. Victor (Kathryn) Christenson, of Marshfield. A daughter, Beulah, died at the age of 12. There are nine grand children and 18 great grandchildren.

Mr. Lowe, one of a family of nine, has one brother living, and Mrs. Lowe, one of a family of seven, has two sisters and one brother.

Those who were here for Sunday’s celebration included: Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Lowe, and their four children of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cendt and Mr. and Mrs. Roger Eckes of Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Victor Christensen, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Shackelman and two daughters, and Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Knoll and son, of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Jones of Hixton; and Mr. and Mrs. Seal Thompson of Whitehall; and the Rev. and Mrs. L. F. Faivre and Lynn, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Merwin, of Abbotsford.

Mrs. Roy Peterson and Mrs. Morris Mantor, Abbotsford, and Miss Alta Mantor of Milwaukee called in the afternoon.

The honored couple was presented with a purse of money and other gifts.

50TH JUBILEE CELEBRATED BY A. LUBERS AT LOYAL

Loyal-So that all their children could join them for the event, Mr. and Mrs. August Luber celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Saturday, 10 days in advance of the actual anniversary date, Oct. 23.

Events of the day were an open house at their home from 2 to 5 p.m., and a dinner for 60 guests, which was served at the home of their son, Allen Luber. Bouquets of yellow mums were distributed around the house for the latter event, and similar flowers with yellow streamers decorated the dinner table, which was centered with the anniversary cake.

Attending the celebration were their three sons-Virgil, Eau Claire; Ford, Rice Lake, and Allen, Loyal. The eight grandchildren joined in presenting the Lubers with the yellow carnation boutoniere and corsage of yellow roses which they wore for the day.

Other relatives included two great-grandchildren. The couple's only daughter, Caroline, is deceased.

Also amoung the annivesary guests were Mrs. Luber's brother and sister, Tom Paulus and Mrs. Oscar Curl Sr., from Prairie du Chien, who were members of the original wedding party.

Relatives came from Eau Claire, Mankato, Bagley, Milwaukee, Thiensville and Haugen for the celebration.

Mr. Luber, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Luber, farmed in Grant county before moving to Clark county, and for 22 years was a highway employe. He was born Dec. 7, 1880 at Bagley, and received his education there.

Mrs. Luber was born Clara Paulus, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Paulus, on Dec. 23, 1886. The family came from her birthplace in Bohemia to the United States, and she was educated at Prairie du Chien.

Mr. and Mrs. Luber are in good health and enjoy respective hobbies of hunting and fishing, and reading.

Clara Paulus and August Luber were married in Prairie du Chien, Tuesday October 23, 1906. That all of the children might attend the Golden Wedding celebration it was held Saturday, Oct. 13.

Sixty guests attended the dinner which was held at the home of their son, Allen Luber. The table, decorated with gold streamers and yellow mums, was centered with a wedding cake. Bouquets of yellow mums were used throughout the house for the decorations. Open house from 2-5 was held in the afternoon at the August Luber home when many guests came to express their congratulations.

Following the marriage of the Lubers they lived in Grant County for several years. They then came to Clark County where they have been engaged in farming and Mr. Luber has been a highway employee for 22 years.

Mr. Luber was born at Bagley, December 7, 1880, the son of Augusta and Leonard Luber. Mrs. Luber, the daughter of Theresa and Matt Paulus, was born in Bohemia, Dec. 23, 1886. She came when a small child to America with her parents.

Both are members of the Lutheran Church and both have good health. Pastimes for Mr. Luber are hunting and fishing and Mrs. Luber enjoys reading.

The Luber’s grandchildren provided a corsage for their grandmother and a boutonniere of yellow carnations for their grandfather.

Present for the celebration were their three sons and families, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Luber & children of Eau Claire, Mr. and Mrs. Ford Luber and children, Rice Lake, and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Luber and children, Loyal. The August Lubers have eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A daughter, Caroline is deceased.

Two of the original wedding attendants were also present for the anniversary. Mrs. Luber’s sister, Mrs. Oscar Carl and her brother, Tom Paulus, both of Prairie du Chein.

August Luber and Clara Paulus were united in marriage at Prairie du Chein last Tuesday, October 23, 1906. After the nuptial vows were said and the tie that binds two hearts as one was over. The happy couple drove to the bride’s home in Crawford county, where a superb wedding dinner was prepared, and then back to Patch Grove, their future home. With our mouth full of wedding cake and our mind full of pleasant expectations for the bride and groom, we can say of a truth that here is an ideal couple for you. Both bride and groom are well known and highly respected. The bride is not only pretty, but industrious and accomplished, and with a loving heart, what more could you ask? So, for the groom we can say without fear of contradiction, that he is one of our best young men. Having known August all his life, we know him to possess the qualities of a perfect gentleman. Thanks to Dick O’Toole for the big Chicago cigar, and the groom for a hunk of the wedding cake. By the way, O’Toole and wife and Mrs. Philip Luber, who came from Chicago to attend the wedding, returned to their homes last Sunday.

A Golden wedding anniversary celebration will be held Saturday evening in the American Legion Hall in Neillsville, beginning at 6 p.m., honoring two Neillsville couples, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Hake of 310 Clay Street and Mr. and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Luck of 311 E. 5th Street.

Warren Hake and the former Helen Luck were married here November 19, 1913.  Mr. Luck and the former Hilda Ketulhud were married here December 10, of the same year.

Both couples were married in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and have spent their entire lives in this community.

In addition to dairy farming, from which both couples are retired, Mr. Luck operated the Riverside Dance Pavilion for over 25 years.  Mr. Hake will be remembered for the many years he operated the Hake’s Barn Dance.

Both men also did custom grain threshing during the 1930’s, each covering a different part of the county during the harvest season.

Mr. and Mrs. Hake are the parents of three children: Mrs. Albert (Thelma) Mashin of Neillsville, Mrs. John (Viola) MacWilliams of Madison and Dale Hake, who operates the home farm where his father lived for 64 years. They also have six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Luck have no children.  Mr. Luck has two sisters, Mrs. Warren Hake and Mrs. Richard Wedekind.  Mrs. Luck has one sister, Mrs. Herman Meier.

Mr. and Mrs. Hake’s attendants at the wedding 50 years ago; were her sister, Mrs.  Richard Wedekind, who is a hospital patient in Marshfield, George Rupprecht of Neillsville, Mrs. Amelia (Rupprecht) Lichte of Neillsville and Rush Hake, deceased.

Attending Mr. and Mrs. Luck were his sister, Mrs. Richard Wedekind of Neillsville, Frank Lockgram of Milwaukee, Harry Gehrt, deceased, and Mrs. Emil Schraege (the former Elsie Becker) who now lives in New Jersey.

Celebrating their 55th wedding anniversaries Sunday at the Warren Hake home in Neillsville were Mr. and Mrs. Hake and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Luck, also of Neillsville.

Warren Hake and the former Helen Luck were married November 19, 1913, in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville.

Frank Luck and the former Hilda Ketelhut were married December 10, 1913, same year in the same church. Both weddings were performed by the late Rev. Herman Brandt, father of Neillsville’s Mayor, John C. Brandt.

Attendants at the wedding were Harry Gehrt, Frank Lockbaum, Elsie (Becker) Schreiege and Mrs. Richard Wedekind. Those for Mr. and Mrs. Hake were George and Amelia Rupprecht, Ida Luck and Rush Hake.

Mr. and Mrs. Hake are the parents of three children: Mrs. Albert (Thelma) Mashin of Neillsville, Dale Hake of rural Neillsville and Mrs. John (Viola) McWilliams of Colorado Springs, Colo. They also have six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Both families have lived in the Neillsville area since their marriage

Friends and relatives gathered on Saturday, June 25, to honor Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lueddecke of route 1, Abbotsford, on the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary celebration.

Following a reception at their home, a supper was served to 120 guests at the Peace Evangelical church hall in Dorchester. Gay Graffunder of Medford entertained with music in the afternoon. In the evening, guests danced at Cherokee hall to the music of Kathy’s Twilight Ramblers.

The honored couple had yellow roses in their corsage and boutonniere and yellow carnations were worn by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Leonhardt, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Zugier, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Lueddecke, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Lueddecke, and the Rev. Hugh Evans.

Mr. Lueddecke was born in the village of Dorchester on April 28, 1893. As a small child, he moved with his family to a farm in the town of Mayville, where he lived about 20 years. His parents then bought a farm in the town of Holton in 1915.

His wife, the former Amelia Moder, was born in Dale, Wis., Outagamie county, on March 19, 1897. At the age of 16, she moved with her parents to a farm in the town of Holton, where she lived until her marriage.

The couple was married on June 14, 1916, in the Peace Evangelcal church, Dorchester, with the Rev. J. Bizer officiating. Attendants were Mrs. Fred Leonhardt and Art Scheibe, Fred Leonhardt and the late Goldie Martin. The wedding celebration was held at Mr. Lueddecke’s home, where the couple farmed until their retirement in 1961. They now live adjacent to the farm which they sold to their son.

Mr. Lueddecke was a director of the school board of the Pickard school for 33 years. He still enjoys helping his son on the farm occasionally. Mrs. Lueddecke, although she broke her hip two years ago, is still able to do her housework with the aid of daughter, Dorothy.

Children of the couple include Mabel, Mrs. Paul Zugier, who baked the wedding anniversary cake; Dorothy, Mrs. Gordon Anderson, and Lester, all farming in the town of Holton.

There are twelve grand children and five great grand children.

Mr. Lueddecke’s sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Muehler, Dorchester, attended. A grand son, Ronald Zugier, was unable to attend as he is in the army in Vietnam.

Mr. and Mrs. Aug. Luelloff celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of their marriage at their home in the town of Green Grove Tuesday April 28th. A large number of relatives and friends were present and the day most enjoyably. The Phonograph extends congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Luelloff.

10 YEARS AGO: Vilas and Irene Luepke of Spencer celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last month at Mo-B's in Spencer. They were married June 11, 1938, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer. They continue to be members of the church.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lueth celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house Saturday, June 25, 1977 at their home. The couple was married at Colby, June 25, 1927, and spent the entire time at farming.

They have 5 children, Courtland, Abbotsford, Carl, Colby, Gary, Unity, Mrs. Lenore Tyler, Big Sandy, Montana, and Mrs. Lorraine Banks, Lutz, Florida. There are four grandchildren, Stephanie and Jeffrey Banks, and Randall and Darla Tyler. The daughters were unable to be present for the occasion. One original attendant was present, Fielder Lueth, brother of Edward, was best man.

Edward Lueth was born Jun 4, 1905 at Stroh, Indiana. Mrs. Lueth, Ella Erickson, was born July 12, 1903, at Unity.

Guests present were from Spring Valley, Catawba, Stratford, Colby, Unity, Dorchester, Curtiss and Abbotsford.

The couple received congratulatory telephone calls from Massachusetts, Montana and Florida.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lukas of Rt. 1, Abbotsford will observed the 50th anniversary of their marriage Sunday at the 8:30 morning mass, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

No social observance is planned at this time on account of the uncertainty of weather and driving conditions. Plans are to have open house in the early summer.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lukas celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Saturday, June 14, 1969, at their home at route 1, Abbotsford.

Dinner was served to about 60 guests at noon, and open house was held from 2 to 6 p.m.

The celebration of the event was postponed from the anniversary date of March 3, 1969 on account of illness in the family and weather conditions at that time.

The March 3rd date was observed at the 8 o'clock mass at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Abbotsford, after which the honored couple received a special blessing. Both Mr. and Mrs. Lukas are members of St. Bernard's congregation.

Mr. and Mrs. Lukas have farmed in the town of Mayville for most of their married life. Two years ago they retired and just recently sold a parcel of land to Jerry Weideman of Abbotsford, but retained the house, and will continue to make that their home.

Mrs. Lukas, the former Anne Wysocki, was born and education in Chicago. Mr. Lukas, who was born in Denver, Colorado, came to thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) with his parents when he was two years old, and was educated there.

After their marriage on March 3, 1919 they lived for a year in Thorp, and then spent 12 years at North Chicago, Illinois, where Mr. Lukas was a machinist and a caretaker at a large apartment house, and managed a theater. After coming to Abbotsford, they farmed.

Mr. and Mrs. Lukas have one son, Norman, route 1, Abbotsford, and three living grandchildren, Joan, Gary and Patricia Lukas.

Mrs. Lukas has two brothers, Joe and Chester Wysocki, and two sisters, Mrs. C.J. (Blanche0 Gresey and Mrs. Joe (Estelle) Les, all of Chicago.

Mr. Lukas has two brothers, Mike and Peter Lukas, in Thorp; two sisters, Mrs. Ed (Rose) Bonds and Mrs. Stanley Posen, and two brothers, William and Tony Lukas, in Chicago, and one brother, Joe Lukas in Memphis, Tennessee.

Relatives and friends who were here for the festivitieis came from Memphis, Tennessee, Chicago, Englwood, Maywood, Illinois, Thorp, Marshfield, Dorchester, Colby, Abbotsford and vicinity.

Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Lulloff, route 2, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday evening, August 8, 1970 with a dance and open house at the Curtiss Village Hall, and Sunday afternoon, August 9, with a potluck picnic at Memorial Park.

The marriage of the former Martha Buss and Bernard Lulloff took place December 20, 1920 at Green Grove, with Pastor Wm. Huenmann officiating. Attendants at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lulloff Sr.

Mrs. Lulloff was born December 9, 1902 at Green Grove (Clark Co., Wis.), one of six children of Albert and Anna Buss. She attended Beehive School. Mr. Lulloff was born April 30, 1896, one of four children of Lewis and Carolina Lulloff. He attended Atwood School and served with the U.S. Army in 1918 – 1919. Mr. Lulloff served as clerk on the school board for six years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Lulloff are members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Colby, and Mrs. Lulloff is a member of the Ladies Aid.

The couple has seven children: Darlene (Mrs. Clarence Richards), Goodman, Wis.; Helen (Mrs. Fred Walz), Chattanooga, Tenn.; Arlyn, Arlington, Tenn.; Carmen, Germantown, Wis.; Vernard, James and Robert, all of Owen. The celebration was held at this time so that all the children would be able to attend. There are 15 grandchildren and a great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lulloff has one surviving sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Buss, Curtiss, and Mr. Lulloff has one surviving brother, Fred Lulloff Sr. of Owen. 

Luther, Mr. and Mrs. Emil (Golden - 1964)

Mr. and Mrs. Emil Luther, former long-time residents of the Town of Beaver and Greenwood, now living in Heafford Junction, observed their golden wedding anniversary at their home last Sunday, April 12.  Several friends and relatives from Greenwood, Loyal, Unity and the surrounding area attended an open house held at their home from 2 to 5 p.m.  They were married in the Lutheran parsonage in Loyal on April 12, 1914.

A dinner was held Saturday night at a resort near Heafford Junction, with members of the immediate family present.  The centerpiece for the table was a three-tiered cake topped with golden candles. All four of the couple’s sons were present: Gerald of Heafford Junction, Lester of Eau Claire, Douglas of Junction City and Kenneth of Wausau. Also present was Otto Luther of Marshfield, on of their wedding attendants.  The couple also has 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

For approximately 25 years the Luther’s operated the Schilling Cheese Factory in the Town of Beaver. They lived in Greenwood for several years, and moved to Heafford Junction in 1950.

During the open house, the Order of Eastern Star served coffee and cake to about 90 guests.  Surprise guests were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bornwell of Palm Springs, Calif., brother and sister-in-law of Mrs. Luther.

Mr. and Mrs. Emil Luther of Heafford Junction, former residents of the Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) area, observed their golden wedding anniversary, which was April 12, 1064, on the weekend of April 11-12 with a family dinner at Pleasant Point Resort in that area on Saturday and an open house at their home on Sunday.

Mr. Luther, who was a cheesemaker in Clark County for 25 years, and the former Blanche Cornwell were married April 12, 1914, in the Lutheran parsonage at Loyal by the Rev. E. Kemena.

Their attendants at the 1914 ceremony, Ethel Free and Otto Luther, the latter of Marshfield, attended the anniversary celebration.

Prior to moving to the Tomahawk area in 1950, the Luthers resided in Greenwood.

They have four sons, Gerald of Heafford Junction, Lester of Eau Claire, Douglas of Junction City, and Kenneth, Wausau. All were present for the golden wedding. The couple also have 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Luther is a retired carpenter. He and his wife list gardening and home crafts among their special interests.

A three-tiered wedding cake, adorned with gold candles, was served at the celebration. Mrs. Luther wore a black and white print dress, accented with an orchid corsage. Mr. Luther had a yellow carnation boutonniere.

At the open house , coffee and cake were served to guests by members of the Order of Eastern Star. The guests from out of town came from Palm Springs, Calif., Ashippun, Wis. Rapids, Marshfield, Eagle River, Eau Claire, Junction City, Loyal, Spencer, Unite, Wausau and Irma.
