Mr. and Mrs. George Haas celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Saturday evening with a party held at the VFW Hall in Colby. Music was provided by the “Augustines.” Lunch was served.

Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Haas of Owen, who were married June 15, 1927 at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Withee, noted the golden anniversary of that event at an Open House, Saturday, June 18, 1977.

A family dinner was held at their home at noon on Saturday, June 18. The Open House was held at the Unvited Church of Christ from two until five, where they were joined by friends and relatives to honor the occasion.

Lyle Haas, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Haas, was born July 26, 1905 at Withee, Wisconsin. He attended local schools and the University of Wisconsin, graduating in 1931. His wife, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James P. Hansen, was born February 12, 1903 at Owen, and attended the Owen Public Schools. She is a graduate of Medford Normal and the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. Mrs. Haas spent 38 years teaching in the vicinity of Owen.

Mr. Haas spent 18 years as a butter make and dairy plant operator in Illinois and Wisconsin. They farmed for 12 years in the Township of Hoard, and then Mr. Haas spent 15 years as utility and maintenance assistant at the Clark County Health Care Center, retiring in 1969. He served as supervisor in the Township of Hoard for six years, and as a member of the Owen City Council and Mayor for seven years.

Their children include one son, Roger of Itasca, Illinois, and a daughter, Barbara, a teacher at Green Bay. There are three grandchildren.

Lyle and Mathilda are affiliated with the United Church of Christ. They are members of Easter Star. Mr. Haas is a 32nd degree Mason.

Mr. and Mrs. William J. Haas Sr. of rural Unity chose July 4, 1968 to observe the year of their 50th wedding anniversary. The 25th wedding anniversary of their oldest daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Skwarski of Chicago, Ill., was celebrated also.

Family, relatives and friends gathered at the home of a son, Mr. and Mrs. William Haas Jr. for the afternoon and evening. The reception began at 2 p.m. with guests signing a guest book.

The dinner was served at 4:30 p.m. with tables set for the anniversary couples and their original wedding party members. Buffet style dinner was served to approximately 200 guests. Gold, silver and white bells and streamers decorated the large building. A three-tier white cake with gold roses on, baked and trimmed by a daughter, Mrs. Bruce Wussow, and daughter-in-law, Mrs. George Haas, and a large decorated chocolate cake with blue roses on given by a daughter, Mrs. Donald Harder, were the table centerpieces.

Early wedding photographs and a gold-sprayed pin bough with snapshots of the forty-seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren was on a table for gifts to be placed upon. A money purse was given by the children.

Dancing in the evening was provided by the Derbytown Boys of Curtiss. A midnight lunch followed with the serving of the anniversary cakes.

Mrs. Haas wore a beige sheath dress with a corsage of yellow rose and gold-tipped carnations. Mrs. Skwarski chose a light blue dress and had a corsage of blue-tipped carnations. Matching boutonnieres and corsages were won by the husbands and attendants.

Mr. Haas and the former Edna Scheelk were married on Oct. 23, 1918, at the home of her parents, by the late Pastor T.E. Diemer of Stratford. Their attendants, who were all present for this occasion, were Mrs. Richard (Emma) Radtke, Wausau, a sister of Mrs. Haas, Mrs. Mentor Christopherson of Austin, Minn., a distant relatives, Fred Leonhardt of Dorchester, a friend, and Martin Fandre, Edgar, a friend. Elmer Haas represented his sister's wedding party.

Mr. and Mrs. Haas began farming on the farm where he was born and raised in the town of Mayville (Clark Co., Wis.). In 1923 they moved to a farm in the town of Deer Creek and then in 1940 moved to the present farm, from which they retired in 1961 to their home adjoining the farm.

The couple was blessed with 11 children, all of whom are still living. The four sons are Arthur, George and William Jr. of rural Unity, and Elmer of Colby. The daughters are the following: Mrs. William (Rose) Skwarski of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Edward (Helen) Chuben of Lincolnwood, Ill., Mrs. Jerome (Elaine) Schultz of Colby, Mrs. Howard (Ella) Huckbody of Wausau, Mrs. Harold (Myrtle) Baumgartner of Cook, Minn., Mrs. Bruce (Doris) Wussow of Edgar, and Mrs. Donald (Irene) Harder of Stetsonville.

Mr. and Mrs. Haas are members of the Zion Lutheran Church of Colby, where Mrs. Haas is active in Ladies Aid and the Missionary League. Gardening and canning are among her hobbies, and Mr. Haas still helps out on his sons' farms.

Guests came from Wis. Rapids, New Lisbon, Oshkosh, Marshfield, Janesville, Racine, Wausau, Granite Heights, Abbotsford, Colby, Edgar, Fenwood, Unity and Black Creek, Mt. Morris, Mich., Minneapolis, Cedar Rapids, Ia., California, Belleville and Wabeno.

A grandson, Randy Schultz, who recently joined the army at Fort Campbell, Ky., and a granddaughter, Joyce Haas, Washington, D.C., could not be present.

Saturday night a surprise 34th wedding anniversary party for Mr. and Mrs. Robert Habighorst was held at the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Randy Frederickson.

Here for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Haselow and family of Milwaukee, Mrs. Habighorst's brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Senzig, sister-in-law, Mrs. Angeline Senzig of Shawano, and her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Monroe of Bonduel.

Their son John and family of Three Lakes arrived here on Sunday for a visit but were unable to attend the affair Saturday night.

Howard and Theresa Hackel, Milan, celebrated 60 years of marriage on Aug. 20, 2020.

Theresa Pietrowski and Howard A. Hackel were united in marriage on Aug. 20, 1960, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Milan, with the Rev. Charles Schumacher presiding. The organist, Alex Ellenbecker, sang “Ave Maria.”

The honor attendants were Carol Derfus, Marshfield, niece of the groom; and Donald Pietrowski, Milan, the bride’s brother. Bridesmaid was Caroline Thompson, Withee, friend of the bride; and the groomsman was James Pietrowski, Milan, another of the bride’s brothers.

The guests and the couple’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alex J. Pietrowski and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hackel, all of Milan, were ushered to their places by Edward D. Kieffer, Wausau, brother-in-law of the bride, and Beno Venzke, Athens, brother-in- law of the groom. The couple has three children — Steven, Sherry and Sara — eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hagedorn were greatly surprised Saturday evening when their relatives, friends and neighbors dropped in to help them celebrate their 25th anniversary and Mr. Hagedorn’s 48th and Grandma’s 69th birthdays, all being on the same day.

At ten o’clock a bountiful supper was served the table being decorated with a beautiful wedding and birthday cake. They received many beautiful and useful gifts.

While they were serving supper, a charivari was given.

A very fine time was reported by all those who attended.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hagedorn celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary and also Mr. Hagedorn’s birthday Thursday evening. About 100 guests were present. A good time was enjoyed and lunch was served. Two pretty decorated birthday cakes and a large wedding cake were the centerpiece of the table. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hagedorn, pioneer residents of the Neillsville area, observed their golden wedding anniversary on Tuesday, March 22, at the farm home of their son, Louis Hagedorn and family.
 

Places for approximately 75 guests were set at the tables decorated with bouquets of roses.  The honored couple’s table was centered with a wedding cake made in the form of a cross.  This cake was baked by two of their daughters, Mrs. Louis Nemitz and Mrs. Harvey Krause, and was decorated by Mrs. Herman Hagedorn.
 

March 22 was also the 73rd birthday anniversary of Mr. Hagedorn, who was born in Germany, coming to America at the age of one and one-half years.
 

Some of the highlights of the afternoon and evening were a brief service by the Rev. Adolph Schumann of Globe, singing of songs by the couple’s grandchildren and a mock wedding.
 

Before retiring about 10 years ago to the city, Mr. and Mrs. Hagedorn resided on the farm now operated by their son Louis and family. 
 

Mrs. Melvin Marg baked and decorated Mr. Hagedorn’s birthday cake.
 

Mr. and Mrs. Hagedorn are the parents of the following children: Mrs. Edward (Lilly) Marg, Neillsville; Herman, Neillsville; Julius, Route 3, Neillsville; Mrs. Harvey (Evelyn) Krause, Neillsville; Mrs. Louis (Helen) Nemitz, Neillsville; and Louis of Route 3, Neillsville. One daughter, Mrs. Richard (Erna) Schlueter, is deceased.
 

Included in their grandchildren are the four sets of twins, children of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hagedorn, and a set of twins, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Marg.
 

Among the many gifts received by Mr. and Mrs. Hagedorn was a "money tree."

Seventy relatives and friends had a dinner in the American Legion Hall Sunday in honor of the 54th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hagedorn of Neillsville.  It was also the 77th birthday of Mr. Hagedorn.

The wedding cake was made by Mrs. Harvey Krause and the birthday cake by Mrs. Louis Hagedorn. Tables were set by the granddaughters.  Music was furnished by David Hoppa and his orchestra.

Mr. and Mrs. Hagedorn were the parents of seven children, one daughter, Mrs. Erna Schlueter, is deceased.  Surviving children attending with their families included: Mr. and Mrs. Ed (Lillian) Marg and daughter, Caroline, of Pine Valley; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hagedorn and family and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey (Evelyn) Krause and family of Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Julius Hagedorn and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hagedorn and family of Weston; Mr. and Mrs. Louis (Helen) Nemitz and family of Milwaukee.

Other relatives attending were: Richard Schlueter, Belle Plaine, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Compton and two daughters, Altoona; Mr. and Mrs. John Kessenish and two sons, Stanley; Erwin Krause and Miss Clara Krause, Granton; Harold ‘Hagedorn, New Ulm, Minn.; Ramon Hagedorn, Stevens Point; Miss Nola Rhodes, Marshfield.

Eighty relatives and other friends gathered at St. John‘s Evangelical Lutheran School in Neillsville Sunday to honor Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hagedorn on their 55th wedding anniversary, and also to observe the 78th birthday anniversary of Mr. Hagedorn.

Mr. and Mrs. Hagedorn were married on March 22, 1905.  The observance was set ahead two days in order for relatives to attend on a weekend.  The dinner and luncheon was served by relatives of the honored couple. The Rev. Norman Lindloff, pastor, officiated at an anniversary service.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hagedorn of 305 E. 5th Street, Neillsville, celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary Sunday at the Louis Hagedorn home in the Town of Weston.

Mr. Hagedorn was born in Germany and came to America at the age of one.  Since that time he has resided in this area.  Mr. Hagedorn and the former Meta Wagner were married March 22, 1905, which also was his birthday.  Mrs. Hagedorn was born in the Town of Pine Valley.

Following their marriage they farmed in the Globe area for 43 years on the farm now operated by their son, Louis, and his family.  Mr. and Mrs. Hagedorn moved to Neillsville in 1948.

They are the parents of six living children, all of whom were dinner guests Sunday. They were: Mr. and Mrs. Ed (Lillie) Marg of Pine Valley; Mr. and Mrs. Julius Hagedorn and family; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hagedorn and daughter of Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Louis (Helen) Nemitz and family of Bloomer; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey (Evelyn) Krause of Neillsville; and the Louis Hagedorn family.

Other dinner guests included Mr. and Mrs. Melvin, Irvin and Donald Marg and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Moldenhauer and son of Taylor; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nemitz and baby of Bloomer; Richard Hagedorn of Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Strangfeld and daughter of Pine Valley; and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dux of Loyal. Mr. and Mr. Hagedorn have 25 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Mrs. Richard (Erna) Schlueter, is deceased.

Hahn, Mr./Mrs. G. F. (Anniv. - 30 June 1930)

The members of the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran church gave their pastor, G. F. Hahn, and wife a surprise and reception party on the evening of June 30th, their wedding anniversary. The parish hall was beautifully decorated with flowers. A large number of people congratulated them. During the sumptuous supper, served by the Ladies Aid Society, a purse was presented Rev. and Mrs. Hahn, a gift from the St. John’s Ladies Aid and the St. John’s Brotherhood Society. The happy gathering closed with the singing of several English and German folk songs. Rev. Hahn thanked the congregation for their friendly surprise and donation.

LeRoy and Marthel Hainzlsperger, 2100 Strange St., recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

A picnic was held on Aug. 19 at Worzalla Pines Park, Plover. Original attendants Nicky Nolan and Raymond Hainzlsperger were present.

LeRoy Hainzlsperger and the former Marthel Scheel were united in marriage on Aug. 19, in Abbotsford, Wis.

Their three children are Rhonda Hainzlsperger, Scandinavia; Clark (Debbie) Hainzlsperger, Stevens Point; and Kaye (Rick) Niemi, Plover.

They have nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He is retired from Ruan Transport, Wisconsin Rapids.

He enjoys hunting, fishing and auto racing. She likes to do quilting and crafts.

Haire, James & Mathilda (Gold - 9 SEP 1934) & (57th - 1941)

Mr. and Mrs. James G. Haire of this city (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.), celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last Sunday when a reception in their honor was given at the home of their nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Eklund of Green Bay.

Mr. and Mrs. Haire were married at Moline, Ill., Sept. 9, 1884, by Rev. Langley of the Baptist Church of that city. They came to Clark County in 1908 and settled on a farm south of town. Eleven years ago they moved to Owen, where they have made their home since retiring from farming.

Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Haire of Owen, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Haire and two sons of Minneapolis and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Eklund of Milwaukee were present at the reception.

Robert Eklund, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Eklund, was married last week and his wedding was celebrated at the same time.

The rooms of the Eklund home were prettily decorated with yellow flowers for the occasion. Many messages of congratulations were received by Mr. and Mrs. Haire from friends and relatives. They were also the recipients of several gold coins from relatives, in commemoration of the event.

Mr. and Mrs. Haire are both active and enjoying good health. Their many friends in this vicinity hope that they may have many happy anniversaries with prosperous years intervening.

They returned home from Green Bay yesterday.

Mr. and Mrs. James Haire of this city Tuesday evening quietly observed their 57th wedding anniversary by dining out with their son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Haire, and then enjoyed a movie.

Mr. Haire was 80 years young last July 4th, and Mrs. Haire observed her 75th birthday anniversary on last March 19.

They were united in marriage on Sept. 9, 1884, at Moline, Ill. Mrs. Haire recalls that the day was an exact extreme from last Tuesday as the day was hot and summery instead of cold and raw as was last Tuesday. The couple enjoyed a honeymoon trip to Chicago. They came to Owen in 1907 and have made their home in this vicinity ever since for the past 34 years. Until 1918 they lived on a farm just south of the city. However in 1918 they gave up farming and moved to Owen and Mr. Haire worked as a wagon maker for the John S. Owen Lumber Co. and in later years at the Owen Box and Crating Co. For the past eight years they have lived in retirement.

The couple have three children, Herbert of Minneapolis; Rolland of Owen; and Mrs. Nap. (Edna) Cerminara of Philadelphia, Pa.; four grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Their many friends in Owen, Withee and vicinity express their utmost sincerity that they will enjoy many more years of happy wedded life and as fine health as they now enjoy.

A Golden wedding anniversary celebration will be held Saturday evening in the American Legion Hall in Neillsville, beginning at 6 p.m., honoring two Neillsville couples, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Hake of 310 Clay Street and Mr. and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Luck of 311 E. 5th Street.

Warren Hake and the former Helen Luck were married here November 19, 1913.  Mr. Luck and the former Hilda Ketulhud were married here December 10, of the same year.

Both couples were married in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and have spent their entire lives in this community.

In addition to dairy farming, from which both couples are retired, Mr. Luck operated the Riverside Dance Pavilion for over 25 years.  Mr. Hake will be remembered for the many years he operated the Hake’s Barn Dance.

Both men also did custom grain threshing during the 1930’s, each covering a different part of the county during the harvest season.

Mr. and Mrs. Hake are the parents of three children: Mrs. Albert (Thelma) Mashin of Neillsville, Mrs. John (Viola) MacWilliams of Madison and Dale Hake, who operates the home farm where his father lived for 64 years. They also have six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Luck have no children.  Mr. Luck has two sisters, Mrs. Warren Hake and Mrs. Richard Wedekind.  Mrs. Luck has one sister, Mrs. Herman Meier.

Mr. and Mrs. Hake’s attendants at the wedding 50 years ago; were her sister, Mrs.  Richard Wedekind, who is a hospital patient in Marshfield, George Rupprecht of Neillsville, Mrs. Amelia (Rupprecht) Lichte of Neillsville and Rush Hake, deceased.

Attending Mr. and Mrs. Luck were his sister, Mrs. Richard Wedekind of Neillsville, Frank Lockgram of Milwaukee, Harry Gehrt, deceased, and Mrs. Emil Schraege (the former Elsie Becker) who now lives in New Jersey.

Celebrating their 55th wedding anniversaries Sunday at the Warren Hake home in Neillsville were Mr. and Mrs. Hake and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Luck, also of Neillsville.

Attendants at the wedding were Harry Gehrt, Frank Lockbaum, Elsie (Becker) Schreiege and Mrs. Richard Wedekind. Those for Mr. and Mrs. Hake were George and Amelia Rupprecht, Ida Luck and Rush Hake.

Mr. and Mrs. Hake are the parents of three children: Mrs. Albert (Thelma) Mashin of Neillsville, Dale Hake of rural Neillsville and Mrs. John (Viola) McWilliams of Colorado Springs, Colo. They also have six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Both families have lived in the Neillsville area since their marriage.

Mr. and Mrs. Victor Halbrader observed their 24th wedding anniversary, September 3. Dorothy Baltus and Victor Halbrader were married September 3, 1946, in Pittsville. They moved to the home farm in the Town of Seif, where they lived for several years. Later they sold the farm and bought the garage in Willard which they now operate. They have four foster children.

Guests at their home to help them celebrate the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Walker and family of Neillsville and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Baltus and family.

The Rev. Michael Mertens officiated at a Silver wedding anniversary mass for Mr. and Mrs. Victor Halbrader Saturday evening at Holy Family Catholic Church. Mrs. Anna Lamovec was organist and Pamela Suda was soloist.

Victor Halbrader and Dorothy Baltus were married on September 3, 1946, at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Pittsville by the Rev. John McMahon. Attendants were Bernadine Baltus, Kenneth Baltus, Obila Esart and Floyd Baltus.

The couple farmed on the home farm in the Town of Seif and in 1964 purchased a garage in Willard which they still own and operate although they live in the Town of Seif.

Mr. and Mrs. Halbrader have four foster children, Joe, Terry, Emery and Aaron.

Festivities included a dance and open house at the West Side Hall in Willard where about 250 friends (missing a portion here).

Mr. and Mrs. George Hales Rt. 1 Granton, observed the 60th anniversary of their marriage with a family gathering at their home last Saturday evening. The get-together also honored the birthday of Mr. Hales and the second wedding anniversary of a granddaughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Lewis of Milwaukee. All three events fall on the same date, March 29.

George Hales and the former Mary Krejci were married March 29, 1911, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Krejci, in the Town of York. Rev. Burrows of the Neillsville Methodist Church performed the ceremony on a day which Mrs. Hales remembers as being cloudy and rather mild. Not as much snow remained on the ground as this year, but she recalls that the usual springtime muddy road prevailed.

The Hales, who live near one another in the York area as youngsters and attended the same school, have resided on their present farm throughout their married life. They retired several years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Hales are the parents of two daughters, Verona, Mrs. Lawrence Hainz of Milwaukee, and Marian, Mrs. John Hiett of Davenport, Ia. There are six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Guests at the Hales home for the joint observances included their daughter, Mrs. Hainz, who provided the anniversary and birthday cakes, and the following grandchildren and tear families: Mr. and Mr s. Wayne Hainz and three children of Whitewater, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bobick of New Brighton, Mn., and Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Lewis and daughter and Miss Connie Hainz, all of Milwaukee. Grandsons Carl and Jim Hainz were unable to attend.

Other guests were Mr. Hales’ sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. William Eibergen, his sister-in-law, Mrs. Verla Hales, and Mrs. Hales’ sister, Miss Estelle Krejci of Neillsville.

Mrs. Eibergen and Mrs. Verla hales organized a card shower for the couple, just as they had ten years earlier at the time of the Hales’ Golden wedding anniversary.

For Mr. and Mrs. George Hales, who observed their 62nd wedding anniversary March 29, life has centered in the Town of York.

Both were born in the Town of York, educated there, married there, and have lived on the same dairy farm northwest of Granton throughout their married years. The Merry Vale School, which they attended, was built in 1889 and is still standing, used now (together with a new addition) for storage by the Granton School system.

The March 29 date has additional meaning, for it also marked Mr. Hales’ 86th birthday. Mrs. Hales’ birthday is a day with a double meaning as well, for it falls on December 25.

George Hales and the former Mary Krejci, were married March 29, 1911, at the Town of York home of her parents. The Rev. William T. Burrows, a Methodist clergyman from Neillsville, officiated. Attendants were her sister, Emma Krejci, and his brother, Loren Hales. Both are now deceased. Mrs. Hales and her sister, Miss Estelle Krejci of Neillsville, are the remaining members of a family of six, and Mr. Hales and his brother, Harry of Wisconsin Rapids, are the last of their family of eight.

They are parents of two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Verona) Hainz of Milwaukee and Mrs. John (Marian) Hiett. The Hietts, who made their home in Davenport, La., are now retired and have been traveling about the country before taking up permanent residence again. They spent the past summer in a mobile home adjacent to her parents’ home. George and Mary Hales are grandparents of six and great-grandparents of 10.

Mr. and Mrs. Hales have been active in York Center community life and are charter members of the York Center Community club. They are also active members of the York Center United Methodist Church.

Among other positions held during his lifetime, George Hales was secretary and treasurer of the York Dairy Company from February of 1924 up to the time the company was sold in September of 1926. (Although not the original purchaser, the firm is now a part of the Bletsoe Dairy). Mr. Hales recalls that the dairy’s list of patrons included, in addition to those now deceased, Gust Bergemann, now of Memorial Home, Bernard Pietenpol of Neillsville, Floyd Pietenpol of rural Granton, Emil Korth of Lake Mills, Harry Hales of Wisconsin Rapids and Carl Back and Munce Eibergen of Marshfield.

The Hales’ wedding anniversary and his birthday were marked Sunday with a family dinner at the home of a sister-in-law, Mrs. Verla Hales, in Granton. Guests also included Alvin Dahl, Mr. and Mrs. Milford Rowe and William Eibergen. The afternoon was spent socially.

Mr. and Mrs. Courtland Hamel, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Sunday, November 10, 1968 by having a family dinner.

They were married November 10, 1918 at Menomonee, Michigan while bells were ringing and whistles blowing, marking the signing of the armistice and end of World War I.

The couple have seven children and twenty-two grandchildren. All seven children and many of their families were with them on this celebrated occasion.

The anniversary dinner was served by the Doicas Sisters of the Adventist Church, Withee, where Mr. and Mrs. Hamel are members. The Redville Homemakers, of which Mrs. Hamel is a member, gave a dinner in their honor at their home on Monday evening, November 18th.

The couple have the best wishes of their many friends in the Owen and Withee are for continued good health and many years of continued happiness and companionship.

Gordon Hameloth and the former Etta Jane Martin were married at McCob, Ill., on June 20, 1948.

Their attendants were Harold Hameloth, Jack Martin, Earl Martin, Jr., and Jean (Hameloth) Odbert, June (Shover) Overdorf and Julia (Martin) Leonard. Edward Solomon was the ringbearer, Sandy Clapp was the flower girl, and Mr. Earl Clapp was the soloist.

Mr. and Mrs. Hameloth have four children: David, Lansing, Ill., is an interne pastor; Judy, a senior nursing student at Burge, Mo.; Jane, employed at Northbrook, Ill.; and Sally at home.

After their marriage, Mr. Hameloth attended collect in Minneapolis, Mn, where he majored in dairying. Prior to his marriage, he spent sixteen months in the Army Corps at Galesburg, Ill. They lived on the home farm for ten years in Island, Nebr.

Thirteen years ago they came to Willard and began operating the Rainbow Dairy Farm. Mrs. Hameloth is also employed part-time as a registered nurse at the hospital in Neillsville.

Mr. Hameloth has also served as Sunday school superintendent for 22 churches in Nebraska, Owen-Withee and now at the Assembly of God Church, Neillsville.

Dr. and Mrs. Bahri O. Gungor prepared the festivities on Sunday in Black River Falls. Forty to fifty people were present at a dinner for the honored couple.

Mr. Hameloth was chosen father of the year by the Missionettes from the Assembly of God Church in Neillsville.

WOODEN WEDDING

On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Handke of the town of Grant were pleasantly surprised by about 30 of their relatives and friends, who came to help them celebrate the fifth anniversary of their marriage. The event being ethnically known as a Wooden Wedding. The visitors came well supplied with good "eats". Among the fine provisions for the dinner and supper were two wedding cakes, one decorated in brown to represent wood, and contained a prize, the other one was white and decorated for the occasion. The presents were of wood and glass. It was most enjoyable gathering.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hankey were greatly surprise Sunday evening when a large number of their neighbors and friends gave them a surprise on their tenth wedding anniversary.  A number of gifts were brought and a remembrance in silver left, which they will use to purchase useful furnishings for their house.  Cards and games were the chief amusements and a dainty lunch was served.

One hundred and twenty-eight relatives and friends were on hand Sunday, October 10, at the Loyal American Legion Hall to celebrate the golden wedding anniversary of Ray and Margaret Hannan. The Hannan’s, formerly of Rt. 2 Loyal, and now of Neillsville, began their observance with a mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville with the Rev. Joseph Henseler officiating.

The 2 to 5 p.m. anniversary reception was given by the couple’ children. It included a special program commemorating the honored couple’s wedding day, presented by a son-in-law, Howie Sturtz II, who recalled for those present the events of 1926, such as people in the news, movie stars of the time, prices of everyday household items, and popular songs.

A highlight of the program was the presentation of each of the Hannan children, who in turn presented their families… and recalled some of the humorous incidents back on the farm. The entire program was backed up by the Howie Sturtz orchestra.

Raymond Joseph Hannan and the former Margaret Ida Garbisch were married October 12, 1926, at St. Balthasar’s Catholic Church in Loyal by the Rev. Joseph Stentz. Mr. Hannan is a native of Rubicon, in Dodge County; his wife is a native of the Town of York.

Both are members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and Mrs. Hannan belongs to its P.C.C.W. She is also a member of the Red Cross Volunteers (Gray Ladies) organization. Her special interests include sewing and gardening.

Mr. Hanan farmed for 36 years, and although the farm is now operated by the couple’s oldest son, James, Mr. Hannan drives out almost daily during the busy season to help with the farm work. He served as clerk of the Pleasant View School board in the Town of York for 13 years.

The Hannan’s’ children include Mrs. Russell (Marcelene) Lyons, now deceased; James Hannan of Loyal; Mrs. Howard (Dorothy) Sturtz of Neillsville; Robert Hannan of Spencer; Mrs. Richard (Annette) deLorimier of Monterey, Ca.; Mrs. William (Rita) Meyer of Marshfield and Mrs. Charles (Therese) Vesel of Naperville, Il. There are 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Their surviving children were all in attendance at the observance, together with spouses and families; grandchildren came from Eau Claire, Madison, Stevens Point, Green Bay, Reedsburg and Aberdeen, S.D.

Also present were a bridal attendant, Mrs. Lon (Albertine Barton) Goulet and her husband of Toledo, Oh.; Mr. Hannan’s sister, Mrs. Florence Bertz of Loyal; Mrs. Hannan’s aunt Mrs. Margaret Lowe, and sister, Mrs. Ernest (Sadie) Crossett and husband, all of Marshfield. Other relatives and friends from Chicago, Milwaukee, Stevens Point, Frederic, Marshfield, Athens, Owen, Loyal and Neillsville attended as well.

The Rev. Norbert E. King, who was in Loyal for 26 years, came from Schofield with his sister, Betty King.

Mr. and Mrs. Anders Hansen of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), celebrated their golden anniversary on Thursday of last week and many of their relatives and friends availed themselves of the opportunity to call at their home during the day and pay their respects and bring them good wishes.

Services were held at the Danish Lutheran Church at which four ministers gave addresses, Rev. Jens P. Andreasen of Luck, Wis., Rev. Carl Rasmussen, St. Paul, Minn., Rev. Stockholm and Rev. Mikkelsen of Withee. There were present more than 150 guests.

Following the services there was served a wedding dinner at the Danish assembly hall, and the decorations were varied and beautiful. One section of the hall was decorated to represent the village of Withee at the time of Mr. and Mrs. Hansen’s coming to that place, more than 30 years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Hansen are the parents of ten children, eight of whom were present to the golden wedding jubilee. They were Mrs. Ellen Braderson, Cohasset, Minn.; Mrs. Dagmar Norgaard, Oneida, S.D.; Holgar Hansen, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Jacobson, Minneapolis, Minn.; Rev. and Mrs. Carl Rasmussen, St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. Carl Andreasen and Miss Margarette Hansen, both of Withee. Other out of town guests were Mrs. Ole Andersen and Mrs. L. Lorentzen, Chippewa Falls; Chris Jensen, Eau Claire; Jens J. Jensen, Loyal; and Mr. and Mrs. Sigred Jergensen, Tyler, Minn.

Mr. and Mrs. Hansen received more than 100 letters and cards congratulating them upon their 50 years of wedded life, besides numerous telegrams. One radiogram from Denmark was also received, via a Wausau station, and then telephoned to them from there.

Mr. and Mrs. Hansen are among Withee’s oldest residents, and for more than 30 years have lived there, both enjoying excellent health until the last few years. Mrs. Hansen now is suffering with failing eye sight, but aside from that she is very well. They have the good wishes of their many friends for many more years of happiness together.

On Saturday, April 2, 1949, Mr. and Mrs. Emil H. Hansen of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary. Their son and daughter-in-law, Irvin Hansen of Lodi, Wis., where he is instructor in the Lodi school system, came home for occasion as did relatives from Hampton, Iowa. A family dinner was served at one o’clock Saturday to relatives from Withee and Hampton, Iowa. The home was festive with American Beauty roses and carnations.

On Sunday afternoon at open house between 70 and 75 friends and neighbors called to congratulate the happy couple, and to wish them much luck in the future. A buffet style lunch was served in the afternoon and evening, where a three tier wedding cake graced the center of the table, flanked by tall white tapers in silver candle holders, and low bowls of flowers. Mrs. Hansen served the wedding cake while the daughter-in-law, Mrs. Irvin Hansen, poured coffee from a beautiful silver service, their gift to their folks. In the evening from 30 to 35 more friends came to help make the occasion a memorable one.

Many beautiful silver gifts were received and a great many cards from relatives and friends from near and far.

The Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Hansen was a happy occasion when it was well attended by their many relatives and friends on Sunday, June 5, 1970. The morning began with a ten o'clock Mass at Holy Rosary Church, at which the Hansen's renewed their marriage vows before Father Crubel. A noon dinner was served in the dining room following the service to one hundred two relatives and friends. Many friends called at their home between 2:30 and 3:30 in the afternoon at the Open House.

Emil Hansen was born and raised in Ashland, Wisconsin, in 1896, the son of Fred Hansen. He was one of five children, having two brothers and two sisters. The family moved to Colby in 1909 and in 1912 to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), where they have since resided. Emil's early years were spent working in the sawmills of the John S. Owen Lumber Company, and then for forty years at the Master Package Corporation, at which he retired five years ago, in 1965. He served with the Sanitary Train unit of the medical corps during World War I, from 1917 to 1919, a total of 23 1/2 months.

Elizabeth Vachon Hansen was born in Haselhurst in 1900, and was one of seven children of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Vachon. After living in numerous towns, they settled in Owen. During her early eyars of life she worked in the John S. Owen Company office, and later for Vern Merriman's restaurant. Twenty five years were spent working at the Master Package Corporation, and she retired six years ago, in 1964.

Five children were born to this marriage, Lorraine, Mrs. Gerald Quimby, Beulah, Mrs. Frank Grachowski, Lloyd, Yvonne, Mrs. Howard Kotke, and Betty Lou. They are both members of the Holy Rosary Church, where Mrs. Hansen also is a member of the Altar Society. Mr. Hansen is a member of the American Legion.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hansen of the Town of Mentor celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Saturday at the American Legion Hall, Neillsville, with their 12 children, 48 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren present for the occasion.  There were 300 friends at the open house in the afternoon, and 250 relatives and friends at the dinner in the evening.
 

Harry Hansen, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Hansen, and Miss Christine Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Johnson, of Denmark, Brown County, were married October 15, 1908, in the Lutheran Church at Gibson, with the Rev. Mr. Etzman, officiating.  Attending were the groom’s brother, Peter John, and the bride’s cousin, Marie (Osterloh) Hershman of Denmark, both of whom attended the 50th anniversary on Saturday.  The bride and groom were raised in the same township and attended the same rural school.
 

After their marriage they took up housekeeping at Birnamwood, near Antigo, in a lumbering community.  From 1909 to 1914 they lived at Taylor, N. D., where they proved up on a 160 acre claim.  Five straight years of crop failure; in 1910 from 100 bushels of wheat planted, they harvested 101 bushels of grain.  One of the years 100 acres of flax, which looked excellent in July, froze on August 7, completely destroying the crop.
 

In 1914, they decided to return to Wisconsin, and sold the claim for just enough to pay the debts which had accumulated during the period.  They had lost about $1,200 cash investment and five years of work.  Since that time, moisture has returned to that area.
 

They returned to Denmark, Brown County for a year, and then located at Catawba, in Price County, where they remained until the spring of 1927, when they moved to Clark County on the "26 Road," four miles west of Loyal.  In 1929 they moved onto the Kayhart farm, seven miles south of Greenwood on Highway 73.  This farm is now owned by Heck brothers.
 

Later they moved to the Herman Meyer estate farm in Levis, and also operated the John Ehlers farm in the Town of Levis.  They purchased the Fred Krumpeck farm, south of Neillsville, and later moved onto the Zindell farm, near Shortville.
 

An 80-acre farm was purchased from John Hrasky, in Cannonville, and they made their home there until 1948.  After working for other people for four years, they bought a 40-acre farm in the Town of Mentor from Asa Taylor and erected a home there, which is their present location.
 

Mr. and Mrs. Hansen were blessed with 12 children, all of whom are living. They include: Genevieve, Mrs. Robert Jackson, of Greenwood; Melnard Hansen, of Milwaukee; Sylvia, Mrs. Francis White, of Milwaukee; Leland Hansen, of Granton; Pearl, Mrs. Harold Prock, of Neillsville; Orbert Hansen, of Jardine, Mont.; Belle, Mrs. John Mazola, of Levis; Evelyn, Mrs. Durward Walker, of Fairchild; Eleanor, Mrs. Kenneth Seelow, of Milwaukee; Everett "Bud" Hansen, of Milwaukee; Carol, Mrs. Robert Mortenson, of Shortville; and Lila, Mrs. Harvey Light, of Sherwood.
 

"We have been most wonderfully blessed," said Mrs. Hansen.  "We sold springer cows for $9 each. We saw many lean years when milk, butterfat and grain brought very little income.  But we managed to raise all 12 of our children and today we have 48 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren to add to our joy."

Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hansen, 212 West Street, Loyal, Wisconsin were married June 26, 1929 at St. Luke’s English Lutheran Church, Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Glenn Hansen and Marie Sayles from Waukesha were their attendants. Glenn Hansen is now deceased. Marie Sayles will be present.

Lloyd Hansen was born May 3, 1907 to Mr. and Mrs. James Hansen, Superior, and attended the Peter Cooper School in Superior. His wife, the former Esther Guenther, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Guenther, was born January 17, 1910 in the Town of McMillan, Marshfield. She attended the Wescott School, Town of Eau Pleine, Stratford.

Lloyd, who health is good, lists hobbies of hunting and fishing and gardening. He is a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Senior Citizens, Loyal.

Mrs. Hansen is in good health and life flowers, gardening and crocheting, and also belongs to the Senior Citizens, Beaver Center Homemakers Club and the Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal.

The Hansen’s have lived in Loyal since 1954, operated the Gable Hardware Store and started the Loyal Skogmo Store, which is now the Sportswear Express.

Retired in 1970, they have three children; one son, Kenneth James Hansen, Minocqua; two daughters, Mrs. (Donna) Herbert Langfeldt, Loyal, and Mrs. (Susan) Bill Loos, Woodruff; and nine grandchildren.

They will have an anniversary dance at the American Legion Hall in Loyal on June 9 from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Donald and Valeria Hanson celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on August 21, 2005. A reception and dinner was held for family, relatives and friends at the Knights of Columbus Hall, followed by music and dancing. Donald and Valeria were married on August 22,1945 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Bakerville with Rev. Arthur J. Cramer officiating.

Donald was born July 23,1924 in Marshfield to Einor and Josephine Hanson. He attended Washington School in the Town of Rock and Marshfield Senior High School. Donald farmed with his parents. Valeria Bauer was born April 14, 1927 in Loyal to Edwin and Clara Bauer. She attended St. Anthony's School in Loyal and St. Mary's School in Bakerville. Valeria worked as a waitress.

After marriage the couple purchased the family farm and continued to farm for 50 years, retiring in 1995. Donald was a past president of the Central Wisconsin State Fair Association for 24 years and currently is the superintendent. He also drove school bus for 11 years and is currently employed part time at Power Pac Inc. Besides helping on the farm Valeria worked at Figi's, Woolworth Deptartment Store and was treasurer for the Town of Rock for 15 years. Valeria is currently employed part time at the entry office of the Central Wisconsin State Fair. The couple are members of Corpus Christi Catholic Church were they served on the parish council for several years. They are also members of pccw.

Donald and Valeria have three children. They are: Diane (Kenneth) Bonkoski of Neenah, Donna (Emil) Donoval of Sheboygan, and Kenneth (Becky) Hanson of Anoka, Minnesota. The couple also has five grandchildren; Jeffery Bonkoski, Andrea and Eric Donoval and Alicia and Jeremy Hanson.

Approximately 250 guests came to greet Mr. and Mrs. Ole Hanson of Abbotsford Sunday on the occasion of the observance of their golden wedding anniversary.

Open house was held at the Abbotsford City Hall from 2 to 5 o'clock. Elroy Broeske of Colby, brother of Mrs. Hanson, one of the original wedding party of four, was present at the celebration.

Miss Elsie Bremer of Abbotsford was in charge of the guest book.

The former Gertrude Broeske and Ole Hanson, both of the town of Mayville (Clark Co., Wis.), were married June 19, 1918 at Peace Church, Dorchester. They lived on the Hanson home farm in the town of Mayville until they retired from farming in 1954 and Moved to Abbotsford, where Mr. Hanson served as street commissioner until his retirement.

The Hanson are the parents of one daughter, Mrs. Earl (Lorraine) Boss, rural Colby, and one son, LaVerne, who died at the age of 14. They have three grandsons, Jack, Ronnie and Randy Boss.

Mr. and Mrs. Hanson are members of Christ Lutheran Church, Abbotsford, and are active in church organizations.

William Hanson and Agnes Jones were married in the First Presbyterian church of Athens on July 24, 1912, the Rev. Mr. Geiger officiating. The attendants at the marriage are desceased. The Fulmers also were married in Athens, that ceremony being performed July 31, 1907, by Rev. Joseph Brown of Marshfield.

Mr. Hanson, son of Fred and Marie Hanson, was born April 22, 1889, and attended Athens Public School. Mrs. Hanson, daughter of Ed and Alvina Jones, was born at Kelley, Wis., March 16, 1889, and attended Athens High School and the Marathon County Normal at Wausau.

Prior to her Marriage She taught in district schools at Athens for four years.

After their marriage, Mr. Hanson worked in a sawmill for the Rielbrock Land and Lumber Co. for 25 years, farmed for 17 years--four years near Edgar and then purchased a farm near Abbotsford. Since their retirement in 1955, the Hansons have been residing near Greenwood.

They are members of the First Presbyterian Church of Abbotsford.

The Hansons, who enjoy excellent health are the parents of six children, Myron Hanson, Rib Lake; Mrs. O. (Wilma) Blumenkamp, Wausau; Mrs. A. J. (Carol) Roepke, Birnamwood; Robert Hanson Eagle River; O. Arthur Hanson, Menomonie; and Mrs. Carl (Ethel) Lindner, Greenwood. They also have., 15 grandchildren.

The Fulmers have a son, Burton E. Fulmer, Wausau, who is grand master for the Masonic order in Wisconsin, and two daughters, Mrs. Virgil (Dorothy) Young. Wausau, and Mrs. Al (Mildred) Parson Bakersfield, Calif. Another son, Harold, formerly of Marshfield, was killed during World War II during the Battle of The Bulge in Belgium.

Relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. William Hanson of Greenwood attended an open house held Sunday, July 22, in Marathon Park, Wausau.  Their children honored them on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and also honored their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. George Fulmer of Athens, on their 55th wedding anniversary, which occurred July 31.  Mrs. Fulmer, the former Caroline Jones, is a sister of Mrs. Hanson.

William Hanson, the son of the late Fred Hansons of Athens, and his wife, the former Agnes Jones, were married July 24, 1912.  Their six children are Myron Hanson, Rib Lake; Mrs. Wilma Blumenkamp, Wausau; Mrs. Carol Koepke, Birnamwood; Robert Hanson, Eagle River; Arthur Hanson, Menomonie; and Mrs. Ethel Lindner, Greenwood.  Mr. Hanson is the only one living of the Hanson family of seven.

Mrs. Hanson’s family are Mrs. George (Caroline) Fulmer of Athens; a half brother, Alvin Gruenewald of Lake Bluff, Ill., a professor at Northwestern Dental College, Rockford, Ill.; two step-sisters, Mrs. Ole (Margaret) Fladvid and Mrs. Anna Clothier of Milwaukee.

The Hansons have 15 grandchildren.

West Fremont -- Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Happe Sr., pioneer residents of the town of Fremont, celebrated their golden wedding Sunday at their home in Chili, where numerous friends and relatives gathered throughout the day to extend felicitations.

Dinner was served at noon, with covers laid for 45. Among the guests were two daughters, Miss Alma Happe, who teachers at Rochelle, Ill., and Miss Elda Happe, teacher at Eau Claire. Others present included the following from this community:

Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Harding, together with relatives and friends, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home, Tuesday. Dinner was served in the evening to about 50 guests. The centerpiece of the table was a three-tiered cake, decorated with gold rosettes, made by their daughter, Mrs. Fred Miller. Their son, Donald, presented them with two dozen large, yellow roses.

Mr. and Mrs. Harding received many beautiful gifts in honor of the occasion.

Mrs. Harding, the former Pauline Heinrich, was born Sept. 22, 1875, in Fond du Lac county, coming to a farm seven miles south of Marshfield at the age of seven and living there until her marriage in 1893.

Mr. Harding was born March 15, 1867, in Quincy, Adams county. When he was three years old, his family moved to a farm in Clark county near Chili.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Harding have vivid memories of the early history of this country.

After their marriage, they lived at different times in Colby, Dorchester, La Crosse and Abbotsford and returned to Abbotsford five years ago. Mr. Harding had been a practicing veterinarian all these years.

Eight of their nine children were home for the golden wedding celebration, Tuesday. Only their son, Edward, in the service, was unable to be present. Their children are: Vernon Harding, Bangor, Wis.; Mrs. Lewis (Dorothy) Harry, Mrs. Louis (Lula) Gilinksi, Mrs. Roman (Cora) Pflum, Miss Lila Harding and Hallie Harding, all of Marshfield; Mrs. Fred (Nora) Miller, Curtiss; Donald Harding, St. Paul; and Staff Sgt. Edward Harding in the southwest Pacific.

There are 16 grand children and three great grand children.

An enjoyable 50th wedding celebration was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hardrath on Sunday, Aug. 1, 1965.

The celebration was a huge success because all of the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were present.

A dinner was served to the 38 members of the family. A four tier golden anniversary cake, a gift from the grandchildren, was cut and served in the afternoon by Louis and Lula Hardrath for neighbors and friends. Fowers were presented by the 15 great-grandchildren to the celebrants. Miss Winnifred Hardwick of this city attended the Golden wedding of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Hardwick, which took place at their farm home, two miles south of Humbird on Sunday, Feb. 21, 1943.

Mr. and Mrs. Hardwick were the parents of four children, one daughter having died in infancy. Those living are: James, of Humbird; Clarence, Milwaukee and Mrs. Carl Grueb, Greenwood. There are 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom were present Sunday except one grandson, Wayland Hardwick, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Hardwick, who is serving in the U. S. Army at Drew Field, Tampa, Florida. About forty were present, including the immediate families and a few other relatives and close friends.

Mrs. Ed. Lanners, Chippewa Falls, a niece of the guests of honor, planned and made all arrangements for the table decorations. She also made aprons for the three granddaughters and two nieces who waited upon the table, and arranged gold and white bows for their hair. The dinner table was beautifully decorated in gold and white. A five-tier wedding cake, ornate with pink and white roses and gold leaves, formed the centerpiece.

Mr. and Mrs. Hardwick were united in marriage Feb. 21, 1893, in Blackhawk County, Fairbank, Iowa. It was a double wedding her younger sister, Miss Ellen Campbell, and Charles Goeller, being married in the same service, the couple acting as sponsors for each other. Both couples are still living, Mr. and Mrs. Goeller having remained residents of Fairbank throughout the years. The Hardwicks came to Jackson County in 1902, having made their home in that county every since. Mr. and Mrs. Hardwick still are very active and enjoy especially good health. They conduct their own farming operations, though on a smaller scale than in former years. They have been most delightful neighbors and friends and splendid citizens.

The lively group of grandchildren found a picture of their grandparents, which was taken at the wedding fifty years ago and then persuaded the couple to duplicate the pose for one of the golden wedding pictures. Fine pictures had also been taken of the couple in Neillsville on Saturday.

They were present with a number of lovely gifts.

Mr. and Mrs. James Harper of Menlo Park, California recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary at a party in their home. Hosts for the party were the Harper’s son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harper. Special guests were the Harpers’ 3 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. The grandchildren and their spouses are Mr. and Mrs. Chet Krebs of Palo Alto; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Harper of Campbell, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Riddle of Fremont. Also at the party were Mrs. Harper’s brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Flynn of Menlo Park. The Harpers were married on November 23, 1909 in Neillsville (Clark Co.), Wisconsin. They moved to California in 1935 and to Menlo Park in 1942.

Jim Harper had the Gibson tractor dealership in Menlo Park and did landscape gardening, and then worked for the Menlo Park Elementary School District until his retirement in 1957.

Mr. and Mrs. George J. Hart celebrated the 25th anniversary of their wedding day Tuesday evening, and invited a house full of friends to help them make merry. The evening was spent in a most agreeable manner, just about the way it would have been spent if the wedding of long ago had been taking place, except that bride and groom stood at the door instead of the altar, and received congratulations instead of a marriage certificate and a blessing. The admonition of "no presents" didn’t work very well, for there were presents not a few bestowed upon the popular and neighborly celebrants in spite of it, pleasant reminders of good will, and also, perhaps, that in these matters what is planned by married folks happens otherwise, sometimes. In the course of conversation it was found that there were present five couples who celebrate similar events next year. 1875 was a stunning year for matrimonial ventures. A varied and tasty lunch was served the large company in the dining room, and shortly thereafter, at midnight, with further felicitations, the company trekked. George and his good wife are still young and will score a golden wedding with ease.

Monday, September 5, 1938, the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Hart was observed at their home at Humbird.

A reception was held in the afternoon when nearly 100 guests called to congratulate the couple. The home and law were decorated in gold colors and dainty refreshments were served. In the evening a seven o’clock dinner was served to 28 members of the family. Two lovely wedding cakes graced the table.

Many fine gifts and messages of congratulations came to Mr. and Mrs. Hart on this occasion.

Fifty years ago, September 5, 1888, Mr. and Mrs. Hart were united in marriage by Deacon C. B. Travis at Humbird. The bride was about 14 and the groom was 19.

They have been blessed with health and happiness throughout the years.

Mr. Hart came in this section of the county from Castleton, Ontario, in 1886. He worked in Water’s Mill and in logging camps. Mrs. Hart was the daughter of pioneer parents. She was born on a farm at Fairchild. Mr. Hart has been engaged in farming and in the meat business since their marriage and they lived in this vicinity almost continuously.

Mr. and Mrs. Hart have three children: Mrs. Charles Chapel, Marshfield; Mrs. Leland Davis, Neillsville, and one son, Roy A. Hart of Humbird. All their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were present for the celebration. They have three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Still active and in good health, Mr. and Mrs. Hart enjoy occasional visits at the homes of their children, they like to fist and are keenly interested in the affairs of their community.

Every wedding anniversary celebrated by family and friends is always the happiest for the principal participants, and the golden wedding celebration of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Hart, last Monday was no doubt one of the happiest of the two dozen or more like events held in this community in the past number of years.

During the afternoon a reception was held at the fine residence of the family, and nearly one hundred guests paid their respects to the bride and groom. All were served with dainty refreshments by the young folks. The home and lawn were prettily decorated in gold colors. In the evening a seven o’clock dinner was served, twenty-eight members of the family and relatives being present. Two fine wedding cakes graced the tables, one of them being a gift from the baking company whose wares are sold at Hart Store.

Mr. and Mrs. Hart received many nice gifts and congratulatory messages on this memorable occasion.

Fifty years ago, Sept. 5, 1888, a young bride to be, it was her fourteenth birthday, and the affable young groom, just into his nineteenth year, stood before Deacon C. B. Travis and repeated the marriage vows of the Methodist church, and throughout all the intervening years health, happiness, and prosperity have reigned supreme upon the new home founded at that time.

Mr. Hart’s native place is Castleton, Ontario, coming to this section in 1886. He worked in Water’s mill and in the logging camps, which was the predominating industry in those days. Mrs. Hart was born on a farm near Fairchild, her parents being of the old pioneer families. Since their marriage their home has been in Humbird and vicinity. For a while they were on a farm; then Mr. Hart engaged in the meat market business, which was hi trade or profession. This has been his line ever since. After running a shop here for a while, the family moved to Warrens, and then to Granton, returning here after a period of years, in 1914, to make their permanent home. Mr. Hart retired from active work in the business a few years ago.

The family of Mr. and Mrs. Hart consists of three children, two daughters, Mrs. Chas. Chapel, of Marshfield; Mrs. Leland Davis, of Neillsville, and one son, Roy A. who is engaged in the business here. The number three runs proximately in the Hart family. All their children are married and each has three children; and then to date there are three great-grandchildren. All were present at the dinner party Monday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Hart yet retrain their youthful activities in local affairs. They enjoy good health, go fishing occasionally, visit at the homes of their daughters, and find pleasure mingling with their many friends, here and elsewhere.

Celebrating 60 Years of Marriage

Willard and Lillian (Bahnub) Hart, Black River Falls, are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. Willard and Lillian were married May 22, 1949, at the Little Norway Lutheran Church, Black River Falls.

Their attendants included: Valeria (Hart) Barton (deceased), Arlyss (Parlow) Bahnub, Ruth (Wyss) Huber, Bill Bahnub (Deceased), Willis Hart (deceased) and Roger Huber.

The couple has one son, Eugene, Black River Falls, and two grandchildren, Tony Hart of Holmen and Stacy Mae Harmon-Hart of La Crosse.

Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Hartson of this city (Greenwood, Clark County) celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary, on Saturday, May 15th, 1937, at their home here.

Henry Hobart Hartson was born in Adams Co., Wis., of Yankee parentage on July 24, 1856. Mrs. Hartson, nee Hilda Wellen, was born in Oslo, Norway, on April 18, 1857 and came to Whitehall when she was five years old.

Mr. and Mrs. Hartson came to Clark County immediately after their marriage, which took place at Whitehall, Wis., May 15, 1887. Mr. Hartson had resided in the country since 1872 and operated a stage line, carrying mail and passengers between Neillsville and Withee from 1886 to 1888.

Six children were born to this union, three sons and three daughters: Wellen of Neillsville; Harry, in the west, Fred at Longmont, Colo.; Mrs. L.E. Brackett of Brule, Wis.; Mrs. G.A. Jardine of New Virginia, Iowa, and Miss Marian Hartson, R.N. of DeMoines, Iowa. There are also 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hartson was engaged in the hardware business and was publisher of the Gleaner from 1892 to 1916 and served as postmaster from 1900 to 1916.

It was during his term as president of the school board, a position he held for 20 years, that the present school building was erected. He was also City Treasurer from 1924 to 1931.

Mrs. Hartson has been an active member of the Order of Eastern Star since 1904 and served as Worthy Matron for five years. She has also been prominent in the Presbyterian and Methodist Church.

The Gleaner joins their many friends in extending best wishes for many more years of happy wedded life.

Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Hartson, Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary Friday, May 15, 1942, with a party at their home. Friends and relatives showered the couple with good wishes and gifts in observance of the day.

Mr. Hartson was born in Adams County, Wis., of Yankee parentage on July 24, 1856. Mrs. Hartson, nee Hilda Wellen, was born in Oslo, Norway, on April 18, 1867, and came to Whitehall when she was 5 years old.

After the wedding ceremony performed in Whitehall on May 15, 1887, the couple left for Clark County, where Mr. Hartson had resided since 1872, and where, from 1886 until 1888, he operated a stage line, carrying both mail and passengers between Neillsville and Withee.

At one time Mr. Hartson was engaged in the hardware business under the firm name of Justice and Hartson; later he published the Greenwood Gleaner, from 1892 to 1917, and served as postmaster from 1900 to 1917.

It was during his term as president of the school board, a position he held for 20 years, that the present school building was erected in Greenwood. From 1924 to 1931 he held the office of city treasurer.

He is affiliated with the Masonic Lodge and the Modern Woodmen of America.

Mrs. Hartson, who has been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star since 1904, served as worthy matron of that organization for five years. She has also been active in Presbyterian and Grace Methodist Church activities during her 55 years of residence in Greenwood.

Harvey, Mr. and Mrs. Wells F. (60th - 7 September 1964)

Mr. and Mrs. Wells F. Harvey observed their 60th wedding anniversary quietly at their home in Winter Haven, Fla., Monday.

Mr. Harvey has served as publisher of The Clark County Press for the last 26 years, a position which he continues to hold.  They passed up their normal summer trip to Wisconsin this year because of Mrs. Harvey’s health. She has been ill for the last year; but is reportedly gaining in strength and activity. Mr. Harvey is 84; Mrs. Harvey is 83.

They were married September 7, 1904, in Olivet, Michigan, where both were graduated from college.  For a period following her graduation, Mrs. Harvey taught public school music and art.

Equipped for two professions - ministry and newspaper work - Mr. Harvey followed the latter throughout his life, taking side-adventures into lay work from the pulpit on many occasions.  He served as a member of what was to become the Washington (D.C.) press corps, covering the nation’s capitol for the Booth newspapers of Michigan, and two Japanese newspapers, during the terms of President Teddy Roosevelt and William H. Taft.

When he left Washington to seek a newspaper of his own in 1913, Mr. Harvey was presented by the Japanese newspapers with a large vase from the Ming dynasty in appreciation of his efforts in behalf of Japanese understanding of events in the United States.

He published The Pioneer at Big Rapids, Mich., from 1914 until 1928, when he joined the Hearst organization at the instance of Frank Knox, then general manager of that vast publishing empire and later to become the United States Secretary of the Navy during World War II.  Mr. Knox and Mr. Harvey worked together as young reporters on the Booth’s newspaper in Grand Rapids, Mich. Another young newspaperman there at that time - on the opposing Grand Rapids Herald - was later to become widely known throughout the world.  He was Sen. Vandenberg of Michigan.

With the Hearst organization, Mr. Harvey served as assistant, business manager of The New York Journal, spent a brief time as business manager of the Los Angeles Examiner, and then served for eight years as business manager of The American Weekly.  The latter is the magazine section of the Hearst Sunday newspapers and many others.

Mr. Harvey left the Hearst organization in 1937, spending the next year in search for a newspaper.  He found it in Neillsville in August of 1938.

He and Mrs. Harvey were joined in Neillsville by three of their six children: Robert, now editor of The Clark County Press; John D., now general manager of radio station WMAD in Madison; and Wells, Jr., a doctor of internal medicine in Denver, Colo.  Their other children are: Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Hancox of Kansas City, Mo.; E. William, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Mrs. Robert (Frances) Lux of Harrison, N. Y.  There are 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Ervin C. Haslow of Chili observed their 31st wedding anniversary Sunday.

Ervin Haslow and Dorothy Portz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Portz, were married October 23, 1929, in Fremont.  Following their wedding they went into the hardware business in Chili, where they have remained.

They have three children, Mrs. Robert (Mary Ellen) Reitz of Marshfield; Kenneth of San Francisco, Calif., and Barbara (former Alice in Dairyland), a student at the University of Wisconsin.  Mr. Haslow had to leave Sunday on a business trip to Chicago and Mrs. Haslow spent the afternoon and evening with Mr. and Mrs. Reitz.  They will celebrate their anniversary next weekend by taking a two-day trip to Madison to visit Barbara and attend the Wisconsin football game.

Art and Isabelle Haas celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary June 16, 2007, with a get-together with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at Shortner Park, Abbotsford, Wis.

Art and Isabelle (Mayr) Haas were married June 11th, 1942, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Church, Abbotsford, Wis. Their reception was held at Isabelle’s parent’s farm in Stetsonville with a wedding dance at Colby Park.

They first farmed in Stetsonville and then famed 32 years on a farm east of Unity, retiring in October 1980. They belong to St. Bernard’s Church, Abbotsford, Wis.

More than 200 friends, neighbors and relatives joined in the happiness of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Hautamaki Sunday afternoon when the couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary.

The celebrated occasion was enjoyed at the couple’s home in the Fourth Ward of the city (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.), where they received guests and friends from Westboro, Ogema, Greenwood and DeKalb, Ill.  Many others unable to attend sent congratulations and best wishes for a continued healthful and happy future.

Among the relatives from away able to be here were Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Jacobs and family and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Kumpula and family, Waukegan, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Sommers, Bemidji, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. William Kivikko and family, Loyal; Mrs. Isaac Niemi, Mr. and Mrs. Mauno Niemi and Mr. and Mrs. Arvid Arkola, all of Westboro, Wis.

Mr. and Mrs. Hautamaki have been residents of the Owen community for the past 43 years.  On Aug. 20, 1904 they were united in marriage in a ceremony performed at Negaunee, Mich.  They made their home there for seven years until 1911 when they moved to Owen, settling on a farm south of the city on DD, living there until six years ago when they retired from the farming vocation and moved to Owen.

Today, despite his years, Mr. Hautamaki is enjoying exceptionally fine health, working daily as a member of the city’s maintenance crew while Mrs. Hautamaki is equally as fortunate physically being able to be up and about every day doing her own home work and enjoying the companionship of the couple’s many friends in the community.

Married Fifty Years

Mr. and Mrs. C. Healy celebrated their Golden Wedding at their home in this village Monday, December 14th.

They were married in Fond du Lac 50 years ago and during the past 30 years they have been residents of this village, where Mr. Healy was engaged in the mercantile business until two years ago when he retired and the venerable couple are now enjoying the fruits of many years of faithful labor.

During his long business career Mr. Healy has never allowed himself to swerve from the paths of rectitude and honesty and today his name is honored by all men who know him.

In their private life this couple have a record of which they may well feel proud. Ten children came to bless their Union, seven of whom have attained man’s and woman’s estate and as a consequence of the excellent home influences under which they were reared they are a credit and an honor to their parents and worthy members of society.

Friends and relatives gathered Sunday at the Loyal United Methodist Church for the Golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Hebert of Loyal.

Tables were decorated with golden chrysanthemums and colored wheat. Mrs. Leona Schmidt of Winter, a sister-in-law of mrs. Hebert, made a five-tiered wedding cake, which was decorated in clusters of golden grapes with clusters of golden grapes with green leaves. She also made a special cake in the form of an open book.

Mrs. Hebert is the former Signe Johnson, daughter of William and Amanda Johnson of the town of Beaver. Her husband was also from the Town of Beaver. His parents were Isaac and Mary Ann Hebert.

They were married September 20, 1922, at the Methodist parsonage in Loyal. Two of their attendants, Ben Clouse and Mrs. Albert (Martha Mrotek) Rueth, were present. The other two attendants live in distant states.

Also attending was Mr. Hebert’s 91-year-old brother, Roy, and his wife, who are residents of Colby. Mrs. Hebert’s sister, Mrs. Clarence Karnopp of Thorp, and her half-brother, Ulysses Cain of Loyal, also were present.

Dinner was served for members of the immediate family and close relatives and the attendants in the Fellowship hall at noon.

Until 1961 the honored couple farmed in the Town of Beaver. After moving into Loyal, Mr. Hebert worked for a number of years. He is now retired.

The Hebert’s have two children. Their daughter, Gloria (Mrs. John Lea Vesseur) lives in Chippewa Falls; and their son, Leland lives in Unity. There are eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Their daughter and daughter-in-law planned the celebration. Many gifts and cards were placed beneath a “Money Tree.” Refreshments and cake were served during the afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hebert, former Spencer residents, now residing at the Colonial Home in Colby, held open house Sunday afternoon to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary.

Many relatives and friends called to greet them.

Mr. Hebert was born March 12, 1881 at Spencer. Mrs. Hebert was born July 10, 1889 at Campbellsport. They were married November 7, 1906 at Fond du Lac.

They resided at Riplinger, Owen and Spencer, where he worked for the Soo Line Railroad for 24 years, until his retirement in 1946.

The couple has two daughters, Mrs. Lester (Eleanor) Binning of Marshfield, and Mrs. Carl (Ione) Dallman of Colby. There are two grandchildren, Mrs. Roy (Vivian) Martens of Colby, and Leroy Binning of Madison.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hedler celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at the Legion Hall on Monday, Nov. 15th, 1937.

Ellen Crowley and Frank Hedler were married at St. Bernard’s Church by Rev. Father Untrant, Nov. 15th, 1887. They were the second couple to be married in the church.

Ten children were born to this union, namely: Frank (deceased); Mrs. (Margaret) Nick Gengler of Medford; Clara, Ollie, Fred, Tom, Mrs. (Harriet) E.G. Schmidt, Leon and Leland, all of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.). They with their mother and father, attended mass at eight o’clock Monday morning. A delicious dinner and supper were served to the family, relatives and a few old friends. A dance was given in the evening to friends, neighbors and relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Hedler have lived continuously on their farm int eht town of Reseburg, southeast of Thorp, where their children were brought up. They took an active part in the civic affairs of the town and have stood well, the trails and tribulations of fifty years past which included the bringing up of a large family.

"The Courier" join their large list of friends in extending congratulations upon this memorable occasion.

Heeg Anniversary

August and Joanne Heeg, Unity, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 16 with family, relatives and friends at Molitor’s Banquet Hall, Abbotsford, Wis.

The afternoon and evening was enjoyed with dinner, memories and a movie of the original wedding, provided by Ron Heeg. The Harmony four provided music for dancing.

The entire bridal party was in attendance, including Ron and Roger Heeg, Emily (Huser) Zimmerman, Jane (Behselich) Anderson, Don Huser, Darlene (Karsten) Davis, Sue (Huser) Krings, Bonnie (Huser) Draxler and Martin and Lucille Wolf.

They were married Sept, 22, 1056, at St. James Catholic Church in Vesper, by Rev. Robert Hagenbarth. Parents were Joseph and Theora Huser and August and Verona Hegg.

They have three sons, Mark (Faith), Gary (Tina), Jay (Cheryl), all of Colby; and three daughters, Pam (Kevin) Cook, Whitehouse Station, N.J., Cindy (Paul) Lawinger, Dodgeville, and the late Dawn Marie. They have 13 grandchildren.

Augie enjoys his retirement driving semi and hauling milk for Heeg Bros. Dairy. Joanne enjoys the days she watches her youngest granddaughter.

Hefty, Mr./Mrs. John, Sr. (50th - 15 Jan. 1037)

On January 15, Mr. and Mrs. John Hefty, Sr., of Granton celebrated their golden wedding and also the birthday of Mrs. Hefty which comes on the same day.

All the children with their families and a few friends assembled at the home of where they were seated to a bounteous wedding dinner which was prepared by the "bride". Much credit must be given for this to the hands that have toiled so hard during all the years.

The center piece of the table was a large wedding cake decorated in colors of gold, which was baked by their daughter, Barbara, now Mrs. Henry Catanach of Nekoosa. Very useful and beautiful gifts were received by the couple.

Mr. John Hefty was born in Canton Glarus in 1857 and Mrs. Hefty was born in Canton, St. Gallen in 1868. They are both natives of Switzerland.

In 1888 they sailed to the United States and settled in Green County, making New Glarus their home where Mr. Hefty worked mostly on the railroad.

In the year of 1906 they moved to Clark County with their family and purchased a farm from Joe Frei which has been their home ever since.

This couple was blessed with five children, two daughters, Marie, now Mrs. Arthur Hohenstein of Neillsville, Barbara, Mrs. Harry Cattanach of Nekoosa and three sons, Joseph at home, John at Chili and Daniel at Madison. They also have seven living grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Many best wishes and happy returns were wished to this couple as everybody departed for their homes.

May the golden sun rise in the East and the golden sun set in the West. Many more years for our dear father and mother; for we always loved them truly and loved them best.

Fred Heiking and Vera Gardner were married November 25, 1914 at Loyal, by Rev. Mr/ Powell, Pastor of the Loyal Methodist Church. They have spent their entire married life in and around Loyal. They farmed for 43 years, retiring in 1957 and now live in this city of Loyal.

They were entertained November 28by the couples’ nieces and nephews at the Star Lodge Motel with a family dinner, later returning to the Heiking home for refreshments. The honored couple received many congratulatory messages, gifts and money.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heiman celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary Sunday. At the 10:00 high mass for their intentions they received a special blessing of the church from Rev. Peter Leketas, pastor of St. Mary’s.
 

Dinner was served at their farm home to the following children: Mr. and Mrs. Russell Fangman, Wauwatosa, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Heiman and daughter Julia of Phoenix, Ariz.; Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gruber of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schmitt and sons of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Peiffer and children of Duluth, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Strachato and children of Elm Grove; and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hall and children of Milwaukee.  Father Leketas was also present.
 

Open house was held from 2 o’clock.  Refreshments were served throughout the afternoon and evening to about 350 friends of the family.
 

The Heimans were married October 4, 1904, at St. Mary’s church at Festina, Ia.  They moved to Clark County in 1918 and resided one year in the Town of Levis.  From there they moved to their present home in the Town of Weston.  Mr. and Mrs. Heiman are both in good health and are very active. 
 

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Heiman have presented a painting in oil of St. Mary’s Church to the congregation.  It will hang in the vestibule of the church.  Mrs. Edward Heiman, daughter-in-law of the Heimans, made the painting recently. The canvas, a major piece of art by Mrs. Heiman, measures 44 inches by 54 inches.  It is one of her largest productions.  She held an exhibition at Clear Lake, Wis., this summer and in Phoenix early in the spring.  Mr. and Mrs. Edward Heiman will return to their home in Phoenix by plane on October 13.

Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Hein of Humbird, who "sort of sneaked away to get married" 50 years ago, will observe their golden wedding anniversary Sunday.  They will hold open house in the Methodist Church from 2 to 4 p.m. Their two children, Beth Jeffrey of Lemmon, S. D., and Col. Neil Hein of Fort Meade, Md., both expected to be home to join in the celebration.
 

When the Heins "sneaked away" a half century ago, it wasn’t that they were doing something to which their parents might object.  After all, they were 24 and 21 years old - and in the eyes of the law, eminently old enough to be responsible for them.  
 

But the fact was that they were trying to make as little noise about it so that their friends of the Humbird area wouldn’t have a chance to pull any of their favorite pre or post wedding tricks.
 

"We regretted it when we got back from our honeymoon," Mr. Hein mused the other day.  "They pulled a really big charivari on us."
 

Mr. Hein and his bride-to-be, Kittie L. Phillips, ran off to Merrillan, where they were married in an unusual 6 a.m. wedding in the Methodist parsonage by the Rev. Burton Sills.  The early hour was part of he young couple’s scheme for getting away unnoticed, and they boarded a Green Bay and Western train at 7 a.m. for La Crosse. 
 

They spent their honeymoon in Prairie du Chien and in Mrs. Hein’s old home town, Mount Sterling, and then returned home to Humbird to face the music - of beaten dishpans, cow bells, and almost anything that would make noise.  
 

In his early years Mr. Hein worked for his father and brother in the feed mill which is near his home and now is owned by Herbert Green.  But in 1911 he became the rural mail carrier, a job which he held for 32 years. Starting in the horse and buggy days, he continued through the transition to the automobile.
 

His route at first was 25 miles long, and he covered it with horse and buggy in six to seven hours, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.  Sometimes, in the winter, it took him two or three hours longer; but he recalls only once of his return being as late as 6 o’clock.
 

But as the automobile came in, the route was expanded, until it became an automobile route of 47 miles.

Mr. and Mrs. Nic Heindl began the celebration of their golden wedding anniversary Tuesday, Jan. 23, 1962, by attending a solemn high mass at St. Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester, the church in which they were united in marriage 50 years ago.

Two of their priest sons officiated at the 10 o’clock mass.  The Rev. Arthur W. Heindl was the celebrant, and Rev. Francis A. Heindl was the deacon.  The Rev. Gerald Schuh, pastor of St. Louis Church, served as sub-deacon, and the Rev. Raymond B. Schulz, pastor of St. Bernard’s Church, Abbotsford, was the master of ceremonies.

Dinner for members of the immediate family and the clergy was served at the Plantation Supper Club at Medford.

Mr. Heindl was born at Kaukauna, May 24, 1887.  He attended Holy Cross Parochial School in Kaukauna and engaged in farming in the area before he came to the town of Holton in the fall of 1911.  His parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Wenzel Heindl.

Mr. Heindl, the former Elizabeth Leonhard, was born in Hewitt Nov. 30, 1892, and received her education at St. Michael’s Parochial School, Hewitt, and the Dorchester public school.  Before her marriage she did housework in Hewitt and Dorchester.  She is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Leonhard.

After their marriage on Jan. 23, 1912, performed by the Rev. John Neises, the couple farmed on the same place they now live in the town of Holton.  About three years ago, their son, Bernard, took over the operation of the farm.

Both are members of St. Louis Catholic Church.  Mr. Heindl is  a member of the Holy Name Society and Mrs. Heindl is a member of the Rosary Altar Society.  Mr. Heindl was also active in township affairs and served as clerk continuously for 39 years, retiring last spring.

Mr. and Mrs. Heindl are the parents of seven children: The Rev. Arthur W. Heindl, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Fennimore; Mrs. Clarence (Helen) Riegert of Stetsonville; Urban Heindl, Abbotsford; the Rev. Francis A. Heindl, Procurator and faculty member of Holy Cross Seminary of La Crosse; James Heindl of Dorchester, and Bernard Heindl, at home.  There are five grandchildren.  A son, Eugene, died Dec. 29, 1960.

Mrs. Henry Suennen, Athens, the former Kate Dessl, was bridesmaid at the 1912 ceremony and was present for the golden anniversary. Frank Heindl, the best man, was unable to attended Tuesday’s festivities.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Heintz were tendered a golden wedding anniversary party Sunday evening, April 4th, by the Cherokee W.A., of which Mrs. Heintz has been a member of 39 years. The party was held at the Rifleman’s Club room, the former Cherokee school house, where Mr. Heintz taught at the time of their marriage.

Approximately 50 guests were present, cards were played and several club ladies presented a short skit and song, "Put on Your Old Gray Bonnet," dressed in clothes of 50 years ago. This was enjoyed very much.

Winners at pinochle were Otto Brehm and Mrs. Emil Wolk, high; Carl Dallman and Mrs. W. G. Danielson, second; Dale Reis and Mrs. Otto Brehm, low. At canasta Mrs. Rose Viergutz and Harold Viergutz were winners.

Mr. Heintz was called upon to reminisce on the history of the Cherokee School and community at that time, noting the fact that quite a number of former pupils were present at the party. He also stated that he liked the Cherokee community so well that he stayed right there for over 50 years and wants to spend the rest of his days in the same place.

Mr. and Mrs. Heintz expressed their appreciation to the Cherokee W.A. for a very enjoyable golden wedding party.

Hulda Wenzel of Spencer and Otto Heintz of Unity were married at a quiet home wedding at Spencer on April 5, 1904, Rev. R. N. Colby officiating. During the first years of their married life, they lived in a little log house near the Cherokee School where Mr. Heintz taught for eight years. They bought a farm near Cherokee in 1907 where they still reside. They have one daughter, Mrs. John Coates.

They attended the 45th wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Helm at Zion Lutheran Church Sunday.

Approximately 100 guests, including relatives and friends, attended the Garbisch-Helm reunion held Sunday. Dinner was served in the Zion Lutheran Church parlors, with guests going later to the Henry Helm home to help them celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Helm of Granton will observe their golden wedding anniversary Saturday, June 30, with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. The Helms were married on that same date 50 years earlier, at the same church by the Rev. Martin Hasz. Both are members of Zion.

Henry Helm was born October 20, 1897, in the Town of Lynn and attended District No. 1 School there. Mrs. Helm, the former Clara Garbisch also has an October birthdate, having been born on the seventh of that month in 1898. She attended the Wild Rose School in the Town of Grant. In 1924 the couple rented a farm from Margaret Foemmel and lived there for three years. Then they bought the former William Kelpin farm in the Town of Grant in 1927 and farmed on the property for 40 years before moving to the village of Granton.

Mr. Helm was elected to the office of Grant Town clerk in 1935 and held that post for 18 years. He served on the ASC town committee for 21 years and on the county committee for one year and served as president of Zion Lutheran Church for 16 years and as an elder for two years.

Mrs. Helm has been a member of the Zion Ladies Aid for 40 years. She is active in doing domestic work and sewing and enjoys her flower garden.

The Helms are parents of a daughter, Mrs. Sammy (Elaine) Seefeldt of Melrose and two sons, Donald Helm of Marion and Roger Helm who operates the home farm on Rt. 2 Granton. There are seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Let’s travel back 50 years to November 20th, the wedding day of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Helsten of Rockford, Illinois, former residents of Spencer, Wisconsin.

This momentous occasion was relived last Saturday evening at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity, when a reception was held in honor of the bride and groom. The guests of honor received many telegrams and greetings of congratulations from their many friends. Quite a reunion was held between Fred and Herman Helsten, who are brothers, and hadn’t seen each other for thirty years.

Acting as Master of Ceremonies was Rev. J. A. Olson. The program consisted of piano and vocal solos and a reading. Impromtu responses were given by relatives and guests.

The church parlors were appropriately decorated in gold for the occasion, with chrysanthemums predominating. A beautiful tiered wedding cake centered the table with gold candlebra at each end.

Luncheon was served to approximately 150 guests. Pouring were Mrs. Max Woodkey and Mrs. Rudy Anderson. Assisting with the cake was Mrs. John Johnson. Receiving guests were Mrs. Hilda Krueger and Mrs. R. W. Elander.

Out of town guests attending were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Luedtke, Wausau; Dr. and Mrs. Schimmel and Mrs. A. Carlson, Whitewater; Mrs. Norman Helterhoff, Milwaukee; Mrs. Hugh Haight, Neillsville; and Mrs. Esther Callahan, Spencer.

The immediate relatives here for the occasion were Mrs. H. A. Krueger, Mr. and Mrs. G. Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Helsten, Delmore, Kenneth and Edwin Helsten, all of Rockford; Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Elander, and Sandra Jo of Freeport, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Helsten and Jean, Loyd and Robert Helsten, Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Helsten, Cheboygan, Michigan.

Of interest to local residents will be the marriage Thursday, October 28, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at Christ Lutheran Church, Abbotsford of Miss Bernice M. Boilke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Boilke, Colby and Louis A. Nacker, Abbotsford, son of Mrs. Cyrus Mohr, McMinnville, Oregon. Rev. F. H. Sprengler officiated at the ceremony.

The attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Broeske of Dorchester.

The bride wore a slipper satin gown with net overskirt, sleeves pointed at the wrist and with a sweetheart neckline. Her net skirt had satin inserts. She carried a shower bouquet of red roses and white carnations.

Mrs. Broeske was attired in blue with a net overskirt and matching headdress. She carried a bouquet of pink and white carnations.

During the ceremony Gordon Leonhardt sang “Oh Perfect Love” and “Lord Is My Shepherd”

A reception followed the ceremony at the church parlors where the Lutheran Ladies Aid served 65 guests and a dance was held that evening at Walter’s Pavilion, Colby.

After a trip to northern Wisconsin, the young couple will be at home in Abbotsford where they are employed with the H. K. Christensen Co.

Out of town guests form McMinnville, Oregon, Eau Claire, Duluth, Minn., Prentice, Medford, Stetsonville, Unity, Colby, Spencer attended the wedding.

A large group of friends and relatives gathered at the Arthur Ludwigsen residence (the former Mrs. Olive Hembre) home northeast of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), and made a real warm and rich friendly occasion of the 25th anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Ingvald Hembre.

It was regretted that all their children could not be present. Donald, the eldest son, age 22, is on a Geology job in Colorado, his wife Carol and son Bobby are spending the summer in DeForest. Dorothy, age 19, is working on the S.S. North American on Lake Michigan, and Jim, age 16, is working at the Masonic Home Farm at Dousman. John, Age 10, was their only child present.

On Tuesday, July 6th (the actual date), an open house was held in the church parlors of the Bethel Lutheran Church at Hawkins, Wis., the former home of Mrs. Hembre, for the friends and relatives of that community.

The Hembres felt highly honored to have as one of their guests, the Rev. F.A. Schlotz of Glen Head, N.Y., formerly of Ladysmith, the newly elected president of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

Tuesday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Peter A. Hemmy celebrated their golden wedding anniversary by holding a reception at their home from 2:00 until 4:00 o’clock, and during that period over one hundred friends from near and far greeted and congratulated the bride and groom of fifty years ago.

Here to assist in observing this anniversary were their three children: Mrs. Mabel Gasser of Baraboo, Wallace of Mondovi and Howard of Melrose, and their families.  There are seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom were present at the golden wedding.  Another guest present was Mrs. Hemmy’s sister, Mrs. Marie Joos of Jamestown, N.D., who was bridesmaid at the wedding fifty years ago.  Her husband was also present at the anniversary.  Mrs. Hemmy wore a silk gown Tuesday afternoon and evening, made from silk which her grandson, Dale Hemmy, brought from Korea on his return from the service.  Mrs. Hemmy made the dress especially for this occasion.

Peter A. Hemmy and Miss Emma Zerbel, both natives of Sauk County, were married at Denzer on March 18, 1897.  In the fall of 1900 they purchased the farm in the town of Alma, which they occupied until 1943, when they purchased and moved into their present home in this village.

Mr. Hemmy identified himself with various cooperative movements during his days of activity on the farm.  He has been active also in civic affairs, serving the town of Alma as chairman, as well as other positions of trust.  He served four terms as assemblyman from Jackson County, and was for a number of years chairman of the conservation committee.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hemmy observed their 64th wedding anniversary quietly in their home Saturday.

A few neighbors - Miss Elsie John, Mrs. Carl Serr, and Mrs. Roy Johnson, dropped in for cake and coffee. The family will come later.

Mr. Hemmy is 86 and Mrs. Hemmy is 84.

They were married in Denzer near Prairie du Sac, on March 18, 1897.  In 1900, they came to a farm about a mile and one-half south of Humbird, where they farmed until 1943, when they moved into the village.  Mr. Hemmy has worked in several cooperative movements.  He has been active in civic affairs, serving the Township of Alma (Jackson County) as chairman.  He also served for four terms as Jackson County Assemblyman in the state legislature.  He was chairman of the conservation committee for several years.

Mrs. Hemmy, an able helper, did much to help her husband. 

They have three children: Mrs. Mabel Gasser, Baraboo; Wallace, Mondovi; and Howard of Melrose. They have seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.  They are still living in their own home and doing their own work.

The 65th wedding anniversary was observed Sunday by Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hemmy in Humbird.  Dinner and supper, planned by the children and grandchildren, was served to members of the immediate family.

Mr. and Mrs. Hemmy have been residents of the Humbird area 60 years. They were born and raised in Sauk County, near Prairie du Sac, their parents being immigrants from Switzerland.  Mr. Hemmy’s father was a sheep herder in the Swiss Alps at 17, and one day a book was handed to him telling about the hills and beauty of Wisconsin.  He decided to see for himself.  He landed in Milwaukee and traveled by ox team to Sauk County, breaking the road as he traveled.

Peter Hemmy attended grade school in Irish Valley, Sauk County and Prairie du Sac High School.  He attended high school in the winter season after the fall work was done.

He was married to Emma Zerbel in Denzer, March 18, 1897.  They lived in that area five years and in 1902 moved onto a farm of 170 acres two miles from Humbird, just across the line in Jackson County.

Mr. Hemmy served four terms in the assembly from Jackson County.  1917-1919 and 1933-1939.  He was a Republican, later a Progressive Republican and was elected the last two terms as a Progressive.  He remembers several actions in the legislature into which he entered with vigor.  He voted for prohibition, woman suffrage, opposed the action of a group who accused the early Robert LaFollette, Sr., of being un-American in World War I days.  In those days, LaFollette’s picture in the capitol was turned toward the wall.

Mr. and Mrs. Hemmy purchased a house in Humbird in 1947, and have made their home there since.  Mr. and Mrs. Hemmy are members of the E & R Church in Humbird.

He was born March 22, 1875 and observes his 87th birthday today (Thursday).  Mrs. Hemmy was born July 16, 1877.

They have three children: Mrs. C. O. (Mabel) Gasser of Baraboo, Wallace of Mondovi, and Howard of Melrose.  They have seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Hemmy celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in their home Sunday.  Their three children were with them for the day.  They include: Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Hemmy of Mondovi, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Gasser of Baraboo, and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Hemmy of Melrose. 

Mrs. Alice Gansel and son, George joined the family group for dinner and the afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Hemmy are enjoying fairly good health and keep up their home. They attended church services with Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Hemmy and Mr. and Mrs. Chris Gasser Sunday in St. John’s Church.

Mr. Hemmy will celebrate his 88th birthday Friday.  He still goes after the mail, shops and takes an active interest in the affairs of the town, county and state, and never fails to cast his vote at the polls.  Mrs. Hemmy, just a bit younger, will celebrate her birthday July 16.  Mr. Hemmy is a former Assemblyman.

WEATHER REPEATS 50 YEARS LATER FOR MR. AND MRS. ALBERT HEMP

Under weather conditions identical with those of fifty years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hemp observed the golden anniversary of their wedding on Saturday, June 6, 1942, at their home at 188 South "West" Street, Neillsville, Wis.

On the day preceding the date set for their wedding, which took place June 6, 1892, Clark County was visited by a heavy hail storm accompanied by torrents of rain which fell upon water-soaked fields. With that situation still fresh in their memories, Mr. and Mrs. Hemp were able to offer an encouraging word. The corps that year were excellent, hardly excelled in any one year during their long experience as farmers.

Albert Hemp was born March 14, 1867, in the province of Brandenburg, Germany, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Hemp. He came to America with his parents when he was three years old, the family settling near Jefferson where they lived for four years. In 1874 they came to the town of Weston, Clark County, the father being one of the early settlers of that township.

Mrs. Hemp was born October 20, 1870, in the province of Schlesien, Germany, the daughter of August and Dora (Worchel) Dudei. She came to America in 1888.

On Pentecost Monday, June 6, 1892, Miss Anna Dudei was united in marriage to Albert Hemp in the old long church at Globe, the Rev. C. Dochler officiating. The attendants were Augusta Grap (now Mrs. Ole Lowe), Neillsville; Bertha (Schlinsog) Keller, Abbotsford; the bride’s brother, Bernard Dudei, and the groom’s brother, Ernest Hemp, Mrs. Lowe and Mrs. Keller are still living. Mrs. Lowe was the only one of the attendants present at the golden anniversary occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. Hemp began life together with but little more than willing hands and a determination to succeed, upon land which had been his father’s and upon which but few improvements had been made. There was a wide gap, which included years of hardship and privation, between that day and the time when Mr. and Mrs. Hemp turned their two farms over to their sons, Herman and Erwin, complete with fine sets of buildings. They retired in 1925, purchased a home in Neillsville and have since made this city their home.

Aside from the farming operations, Mr. Hemp threshed for the farmers in his community for many years, having a threshing outfit of his own. He served school district No. 5, in the town township, as treasurer for a number of years, also serving as supervisor for a time.

Mr. and Mrs. Hemp are the parents of four children - Mayme, Mrs. William Hoffman, Chicago, Erwin and Herman Hemp, Weston, and Richard, postmaster at Mosinee, Wis. A son, Bernard, died in 1908, at the age of nine months. There are five grandchildren: Lorraine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Hemp; Robert and Marian, children of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hemp, and Mary Anna and Dorothy, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hemp. All of the children and their families except Mrs. Richard Hemp were here for the anniversary celebrations. Many other relatives, neighbors and friends of the couple called at the Hemp home during the day and evening to extend congratulations and well wishes.

They were the recipients of many lovely bouquets, ? June flowers and other gifts, refreshments were served throughout the afternoon and evening.

Relatives and friends gathered Saturday evening for a celebration honoring the 25th wedding anniversaries of Eddie and Nancy Tresemer and Louis and Barbara Henchen. A dinner was served at 6:45 at the Wildcat Inn followed by a party in the Masonic Temple’s dining room.

A mock double wedding ceremony was performed. This was followed by the serving of anniversary cake, coffee and punch. The honored couples received many beautiful cards and gifts.

On Sunday, many of the group gathered at the Listeman Park to celebrate the graduation of Juli Zager of Sauk Rapids, Mn. Juli graduated from Sauk Rapids High School on May 27. She had a graduation cake and received cards and money gifts.

Relatives and friends attended an open house in honor of the Silver wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hendrikson, at the Legion Hall in Greenwood Saturday.

Melva White and Harold Hendrickson were married April 19, 1947, at the Loyal Methodist Church. They lived on their farm northwest of Greenwood until September, 1971, when they moved to the city to operate the Greenwood Laundermatt.

They have four children and one grandchild, all of whom were present for the occasion; Mr. and Mrs. Donald (Barbara) Bowe and daughter, Kari of Milwaukee, Danny Hendrickson of Sun Prairie and Charlotte and Tracey at home. Other relatives came from Omro, Spencer and Marshfield.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Henke celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 20, 1956 with a Mass at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Father Arnold M. Muckerheide officiating.  The altars were decorated with yellow and bronze altar mums.

A reception was held at 2:30 p.m. in St. Bernard’s Hall and a dinner at 4:30 p.m. for 85 relatives and friends.

Mrs. Henke wore a navy crepe dress and matching hat and a corsage of yellow roses.

The original marriage rites for Louise Baldeschwiler and Louis Henke were performed at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church by Father A. Arenz in 1906.  The attending couple, Mrs. Henry Higholt (Martha Henke), sister of Mr. Henke, and Anton Baldeschwiler, brother of Mrs. Henke, were also present at the celebration.

Mr. and Mrs. Henke operated a farm southwest of the city for a number of years before moving to Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) upon retiring in 1944.  Their three daughters are Mrs. Lawrence (Mary) Weix of Curtiss, Wis., Mrs. Agnes Austin of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Veronica Freisinger of La Crosse, Wis..  A fourth daughter, Mrs. Martha Sines, passed away on Oct. 23, 1940.

Their four grandchildren are Marlene Weix Bach of Dorchester, Ronald Weix of Curtiss, Peter and Joe Freisinger of La Crosse.

Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Hennlich, Owen, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 25, 1971.

A reception for approximately 200 guests and relatives was held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Curtiss. At the dinner for the immediate family held at the Florena Supper Club, Medford, a dinner prayer was led by the couple’s grandson, Terry Wanke. Judy Edwards, their granddaughter, read “memories” for each of the family.

Members of the original wedding party, Mrs. Lem (Rosalie Merwin) Loucks, sister of the bride, Abbotsford, and Mr. Joseph Hennlich, brother of the groom, Dorchester, attended the celebration.

Mr. and Mrs. Hennlich are the parents of three children, Mrs. Orlyn (Evelyn) Wanke, Milwaukee; Mrs. George (Jean) Edwards, Stetsonville; and Mrs. Harry (Emily) Elert, Milwaukee. They have eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

The grandchildren provided a gorgeous bouquet of 11 yellow roses, and the great-grandchild presented a white rose.

Henseler family observes two anniversaries Sunday at St. Mary’s

The children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Henseler of Marshfield gathered Sunday, September 4, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville in observance of their 60th wedding anniversary. The gathering also marked the 25th anniversary of the ordination of the Henseler’s son, Fr. Joseph Henseler, pastor of St. Mary’s at the Pontifical, College Josephinum on June 7, 1952.

Fr. Henseler came to St. Mary’s from Immaculate Conception parish, Alma Center, in June of 1974. Since his ordination, he has also been associated with St. Stanislaus parish, Stevens Point; St. Mary’s and St. James’ parishes, Wausau; St. Lawrence parish, Wisconsin Rapids; and St. Theresa’s parish, Schofield.

Joseph Henseler, a native of Bakerville, and the former Magdalena Lauer were married October 16, 1917, at Corpus Christi Church, Bakersville, and made their home in that community for many years. Mr. Henseler started cheese making in 1917 after having attended the University of Wisconsin College of Agriculture in 1907. The couple worked together in the factory from 1917 to 1942 when they closed the factory. The Henseler’s built a home in Marshfield in 1945; he worked at Armour’s Cheese Federation and at the Weinbrenner Shoe Co. from 1947-1957 when he retired.

Joseph and Magdalena Henseler are parents of five children, Mrs. Lorraine Tasse of Marshfield, mrs. Dolores Bella of Berlin, Mrs. Adelaide Varsho of Marshfield, Edward Henseler of Coleman and Fr. Joseph Henseler of Neillsville. There are 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The dual observance was commemorated with a 2 p.m. religious service at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Mr. and Mrs. George Herbel, Mesa, Ariz., and summer residents of Grand View Trailer Park, in Neillsville, recently celebrated their 50th anniversary with two parties. A surprise party was held on August 30 at the Wildcat Inn and planned by friends, who spend their winters in Arizona. A poem, “Through 50 years,” composed by Mrs. Earl Zille, was read as were two poems, “Mother Tells Her Version: and “Father Gives His Version.” The balance of the evening, after a meal, was spent in card playing.

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Herman celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on Saturday, Jan. 28, 1939, when they renewed their marriage vows at a 9 o’clock ceremony mass at the St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church. The church was beautifully decorated with good accessories. The grandchildren, twins Adeline and Genevieve Wilcenski, lead the celebrants to the altar, while the children and other grandchildren followed. An appropriate good sermon was delivered by the parish pastor.

Mr. and Mrs. Clem Herman of Oak Lawn, Ill., celebrated their 25th Wedding Anniversary Sat., July 1st at St. Albert's Church, Oak Lawn, with Fr. Fagan officiating at a 11 o'clock mass of Thanksgiving. Monday, Oct. 27th, was the twenty-fifth, or more commonly called silver, anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hertz of the town of Colby, and in the evening their home was a scene of gaiety. Charley is town treasurer and when he heard the surprisers at the door he thought it was a hold-up gang, but they were too many for him and he had to surrender. The evening was spent pleasantly by all, until long after the midnight hour, when refreshments were served and the surprisers hiked for home, wishing them many returns of their wedding day.

Mr. and Mrs. James Hettinga celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 26, 2008. They were married April 26, 1958 at Grace United Church of Christ. They joined family and friends for a reception and dinner at Immanuel Baptist Church in Rib Mountain, hosted by their children and grandchildren.

Jim and Jean have been blessed with 3 children: Carrie (Dan) Vergin, Connie (Mike) Graham, and James (Pam) Hettinga. The couple has 13 grandchildren: Jacob and Nathan Vergin, Josh (Emily), Ben (Amanda), Alie and Jenna Graham; Andrew, Alex, Matthew, Elisabeth, James, Julia, and Lily Hettinga.

Jim retired from Zimpro/US Filter after 40 years as a welder. Jean was a teacher’s assistant at Rothschild Elementary for a number of years and a full-time homemaker. They are both now involved in volunteer work in Wausau and in their winter home of Leesburg, Florida.

Mr. and Mrs. Harlowe Hibbard of Colby will celebrate their golden wedding Saturday afternoon at the VFW Clubhouse in Colby. They married June, 7, 1933 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity.

The Hibbards lived on a farm west of Unity for 11 years and then moved to Colby, where they still reside. after Farming, Hibbard worked for a short time for Northwest Milling, then for Soo Line Railroad. Mrs. Hibbard, the former Anita Meyer, taught school in the Colby area for 40 years.

The Hibbard have two children, Mrs. Kenneth (Marlene) Schulz, Waunakee, and Wayne Hibbard, Schaumburg, Illinois. There are seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hiebsch of Colby celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday, June 25, with an open house at St. Mary’s Catholic school gymnasium in the afternoon.

Mr. Hiebsch was born in Austria and came to this county with his parents when he was six years old.  They settled on a farm north of Curtiss where he was raised.

Mrs. Hiebsch, the former Margaret Jordon, was born on a farm near Colby.  She attended schools in Colby and later worked as a clerk there.  In 1914 she was married to John Schommer and the couple had nine children.  Her first husband died in 1939.Mr. and Mrs. Hiebsch were married June 25, 1942, at St. Mary’s Catholic church, Colby, with the Rev. Leo Lange officiating.  Their attendants were Jack and Angie Frinak of Colby.They lived on his farm, next to his home farm until 1964 when the move to Colby.

Mr. and Mrs. John Hilgers quietly observed their 50th wedding anniversary at their home in Colby Sunday but expect to hold a celebration at a later date.

Mr. and Mrs. Hilgers were married at Kaukauna, Wis., on May 8, 1888, and the following year came to the town of Hull, where Mr. Hilgers had acquired a tract of land a few years before their marriage.

For three years they resided on the farm and then moved to Colby for a short time, later returning to the farm. After a few years at farming they again moved to Colby, where they have since resided. The farm is now owned by Paul Rucks.

Mr. Hilgers has been engaged as a farm machinery salesman for many years and also was engaged in drilling wells at one time. He has served several terms as supervisor of the east ward.

Mr. Hilgers was born at Racine Feb. 12, 1861 and Mrs. Hilgers was born near Kaukauna June 25th, in 1866. They have one daughter, Mrs. Oscar Sturner, of Colby. A son, Matt, died several years ago.

Hillert, Mr. and Mrs. Ricard 

The 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hillert, Granton, was observed June 6 with the couple honored in a weekend celebration by the immediate family.

Richard and Amelia (Trimberger) Hillert are natives of the Granton community and have lived there all their lives. They were married in 1918 at Zion Lutheran Church, Granton, where they still are members. They were an active farming couple until retirement 20 years ago and then became involved in various community, school and church projects.

The couple have two sons, Theodore, Tomah, who is a technical Agriculture teacher for the state of Wisconsin, and Richard, a professor of music at Concordia College in River Forest, Ill. The Hillerts also have seven grandchildren.

Among those observing the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Hillert and son, Brian, and Dr. and Mrs. Richard Hillert and children, Kathryn, Virginia, and Jonathon. Visitors at the Hillert home included the Rev. and Mrs. Horst Augustin and family, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Trimberger and Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Trimberger. They also received well-wishes and calls from numerous friends and relatives.

Celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary this week are Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hillert, Granton. The couple was married on June 6, 1918, at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton officiated by the late Rev. Martin Hasz.

Richard and Amelia (nee Trimberger) have ben lifetime members of the Zion congregation. They still reside in their home located in the Town of Grant on a portion of the land they farmed until retirement in 1954.

Observing the gala with the honored couple will be friends and relatives, including their two sons and families, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Hillert of Tomah and Mr and Mrs. Richard Hillert, Jr., of Melrose Park, Illinois. Joining them will be grandchildren including Mark Hillert of Green Bay, David Hillert of Hudson, Susan Shea of Eau Claire, Brian Hillert of Tomah and Kathryn, Virginia and Jonathan Hillert, all of Melrose Park, Illinois.

Members of the family also celebrated Richard’s 90th birthday in May 14 festivities.

A surprise celebration was held on Saturday evening in honor of the 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hills Sr. of Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.). The couple, who were married on November 26, 1930, were surprised by a party held at the Hills Brothers Bowling Alley in Loyal, which was hosted by their children.

Miss Barbara Pink, daughter of Henry and Clara Pink of Bloomington, became the bride of Sylvester Hinker, son of Frances Hinker and the late Edward Hinker, Greenwood, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greenwood, on May 9, 1933. The Rev. Father Gerald Schuh officiated at the nuptial ceremony and Mass.

The Hinkers have nine sons and one daughter, Jerome, Eugene, Ronald, James, Francis, Lawrence, Allen, Robert, William, and JoAnn.

On Sunday, May 11th, the following were entertained at a 5:00 o'clock dinner: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Graunke and George, Wausau; Mrs. Frances Hinker and Miss Marilyn Loos. Afternoon callers were Mrs. Harry Plunkett, George and Tim.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hodd of Abbotsford were the guests of honor at a silver wedding anniversary celebration given for them by their daughter, Carol, and Alvin Rabehl Jr. at the city hall Monday night.

A reception was held at 8 o’clock.  A beautiful decorated cake was served as a centerpiece at the table when lunch was served.

Relatives who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Johnson (June Hodd) and his mother of Medford, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bogue and two children of Watseka, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Harris Johnson and two children of Withee, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Koplitz and daughter of Curtiss and Mr. and Mrs. John Roos of Oregon, Ill.

Friends attended from Unity, Spencer, Medford, Dorchester and Abbotsford.

Robert Hodd and Miss Cecil Bogue were married at Withee June 30, 1940, and were attended by her sister, Edna Bogue, and Harold Koplitz, both present at the silver anniversary celebration.

The Hodds built the Abby Theater in 1948 and the following year came to Abbotsford and made their home there since that time.

They are the parents of three daughters and three sons; Mrs. Gerald (June) Johnson of Medford, Carol, Jerry, Janet and David, all at home.  A son, Robert, met accidental death in a highway accident after the family came to Abbotsford.

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hoeft, Abbotsford (Clark Co., Wis.), celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, April 5, 1970, with members of their family, relatives, and friends at the Colby Hotel.

The dinner followed services in Christ Lutheran Church, where a special prayer was said in their honor by the Rev. F.H. Sprengler.

Mr. and Mrs. Hoeft were members of the church in Abbotsford for 44 years.

The marriage took place April 5, 1920 before the Rev. M.M. Schmidt at Merrill.

Mr. and Mr. Hoeft were in Warren, Illinois the first year of their marriage. Mr. Hoeft was a cheesemaker. They operated the Hull and Holton Cheese Factory, and later moved to Abbotsford, where he made cheese at the Marathon-Clark Cheese Factory.

They lived in Abbotsford for 44 years.

The former Myrtle Voigt was born April 26, 1897. She lived in Merrill until her marriage.

Edwin was born April 26, 1890. He received his education in the town of Holton, and attended dairy school at the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1916 and 1917. He entered the service in 1917 and served in France and Germany. He was wounded in action in 1918 and received his discharge in January 1919.

The couple had four children. They are Clarence of Appleton, Mrs. E.E. (Evelyn) Burmeister of Wauwatosa, and Mrs. Allen (Marvin) Pudleiner of Watertown. One son, Merlin, died at the age of 23.

They have 12 grandchildren.

Out of town guests came from La Crosse, Milwaukee, Wauwatosa, Watertown, Appleton, Rothschild, Wausau, and Chicago.

In honor of the occasion, Mr. and Mrs. Hoeft received a colored TV set from their children.

Mr. and Mrs. Theodore A. Hoeft of 521 Butternut Street, Abbotsford, celebrated their 50 anniversary of their marriage, Saturday, June 14, 1969.

About 35 relatives and friends were guests at dinner at the Hoeft home, and in the evening approximately 200 guests joined them at the open house from 7:30 to 1:00 a.m. at the Abbotsford City Hall. There was danic with music furnished by Emil and Lucille Daellenbach, and lunch was served.

For the occasion, Mrs. Hoeft had a corsage of cymbidium orchid with yellow carnations and gold trim. Mr. Hoeft had a yellow carnation boutonniere.

On Sunday morning during the worship service at Christ Lutheran Church a special prayer was said for the honored couple by the Rev. F.H. Sprengler. They are members of the church.

Theodore Hoeft, the son of Theodore and Dorothy Hoeft, was born November 5, 1903 in the town of Holton (Marathon Co., Wis.), and received his education at the Rosedale School.

Mrs. Hoeft, the former Olga Steinke, daughter of Herman and Bertha Steinke,w as born March 1, 1901 in the town of Mayville (Clark Co., Wis.), and received her education there.

Their marriage took place at Milan, June 14, 1919, with the Rev. Ilmo Janssen officiating. Their attendants were his sister, Elsie, now Mrs. Herman Fitzloff of Little Black, who was here for the anniversary observance. The best man was Jessie Graffunder, who lives in Washington was not present.

Mr. and Mrs. Hoeft farmed in the town of Holton until 1937, when they moved to Chippewa Falls. Mr. Hoeft then worked at construction until 1944, when he started worked for the U.S. Rubber Co. at Eau Claire. In 1958 he retired and the following year they moved back to Abbotsford.

Mr. Hoeft is a veteran of World War I. He was in the infantry at Camp Randall.

The Hoefts have one daughter Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Harley of Chippewa Falls; two sons, Howard Hoeft, in the Air Force at Kansas City, Missouri, and Willard Hoeft of New Brighton, Minnesota, and 3 grandchildren.

Mrs. Hoeft has two brothers, Wm. Steinke of Abbotsford, and Art Steinke of Colby, and one sister, Mrs. Martha Daellenbach, Chicago.

Mr. Hoeft has 2 brothers, Emil and Ed Hoeft of Abbotsford, and a sister, Mrs. Herman (Elsie) Fitzloff of Little Black.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Hoeser of Route 2, Loyal, observed their golden wedding at an Anniversary Mass June 12 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Loyal.

Their son, the Rev. Jerome G. Hoeser, Wausau, officiated assisted by the Rev. Anthony W. Fischer, Marshfield; the Rev. Thomas Abraham, Hatley; and the Rev. James J. Logan, Loyal. Children and grandchildren participated. Music was provided by Jill Jacobson, vocalist/guitarist, and Patricia Kelty, organist.

The reception was served at the American Legion Hall.

Hoeser and the former Frieda Petzel were married June 14, 1933 in St. Anthony's Church. The son of Mr. and Mrs. George (Barbara) Hoeser was born and raised in Heintown and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John (Fanny) Petzel in Greenwood.

The Hoesers have owned and operated his family's farm since their marriage. They are members of St. Anthony's Church and Mrs. Hoeser, a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women, is active in Starlight Homemakers Club.

Their children are Clyde of Janesville, Jerome of Wausau, Allan of West Bend, Dennis of Madison, Sandra of Fort Worth, Texas; Thomas of Spokane, Washington and Therese of Wisconsin Rapids. There are nine grandchildren.

John and Helen Hoff of Spencer celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Oct. 10, 2004.

Their celebration began by attending the 10 a.m. Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church, Spencer, with the Rev. James Logan officiating. Music was provided by Jan Strey, Theresa Schauer and the church choir. Lunch was served to 315 guests at the Eagles Club in Marshfield. The afternoon included a brief program, visiting and sharing memories, and a dance from 2 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Original wedding attendants/ushers present for the festivities were Mildred Eilers of Marshfield, Maxine Steines of Tripoli, Charlotte Frodl of Stratford, Catherine Kluczkowski of Cudahy, Mark Kaiser of Stratford and Edward Kaiser of Appleton. Attendants unable to attend were Donald Sternweis of Marshfield and Hubert Sternweis of Minocqua. Deceased attendants are Marge Sternweis and Eugene Endries.

John and the former Helen Kirsch were married Oct. 6, 1954, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Stratford, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. A.N. Schuh officiating.

John was born March 5, 1929, in Marshfield, the son of Albert and Clara (Regele) Hoff. He attended Mannville School and prior to marriage farmed with his parents on the home farm.

Helen was born Oct. 9, 1932, in Stratford, the daughter of Peter and Katherine (Kaiser) Kirsch. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and is a 1950 graduate of Stratford High School. Prior to marriage she lived in Stratford and worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Factory in Marshfield from 1951 to 1961.

They lived on the Hoff farm from 1954 until 1999, then moved to their current home. John retired in 1992.

They are members of Christ the King Catholic Church.

Their children include Marjean (Jeff) Weichelt of Spencer; Judy Hoff, Jeffrey (Lisa) Hoff and Carl (Pam) Hoff, all of Marshfield; and Marie Hoff of Parsippany, N.J. Another daughter, Kathryn H. Hoff, died Aug. 1, 1961.

They also have six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hoffman began the observance of their golden wedding anniversary by attending the 10 o’clock morning service Sunday at Ebenezer Evangelical and Reformed church, Stratford. With them were their 13 children and three of the four attendants at the wedding, which took place Sept. 7, 1919.

Dinner was served for the families at noon at the church basement. Centering the table of the honored couple was a wedding cake, baked and decorated by their daughter-in-law, Mrs. Herman Hoffman, Jr. Small bouquets of bronze chrysanthemums were used in the table decorations and a large bouquet of the same flowers graced the church altar.

For the occasion, Mrs. Hoffman wore a two-piece blue and white print dress and had a corsage of yellow roses and white carnations. Mr. Hoffman wore a yellow carnation boutonniere.

Three of their attendants were present: Mrs. Emma Compeau, Webster, a sister of Mrs. Hoffman; Mrs. Alvina Schultz, Waukesha, and Charles Hoffman, Wausau, a brother of Mr. Hoffman. Corsages of yellow and white carnations and a white carnation boutonniere were worn by the attendants. August Wiesman, the other attendant, is deceased.

Relatives and friends attending the open house came from Webster, Stratford, Waukesha, Wausau, Oshkosh, Milwaukee, Cornell, Colby, Edgar, Abbotsford, Appleton, Neenah, Marshfield, Fenwood, Mosinee, Owen, Schofield, Rothschild, Wisconsin Rapids, Mequon, Withee, Chicago, Waukon, Ia., and Lancaster, Calif.

After the marriage of Herman Hoffman and the former Lida Hagen, which took place at the home of her parents Sept. 7, 1919, they engaged in farming in the Stratford area. They came to Abbotsford in 1952 after their retirement and are both in good health.

They have 13 children, 25 grand children and one great grand child. Out of the group, four grand children and the great grand child were not present for the celebration.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hoffmann, 604 W. Seventh St., Neillsville, observed their golden wedding anniversary March 20 with a dinner at Wildcat Inn and open house at Moonlite Inn, Neillsville.

Hoffmann and the former Nelda Hagedorn were married March 28, 1933 in a Lutheran parsonage in La Crosse, the Rev. Joseph Stump Jr. officiating. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hoffmann was born November 14, 1908 at Globe, where he attended public School. He farmed in the Globe area before his marriage.

Mrs. Hoffmann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hagedorn, was born May 24, 1913 at Globe. She attended Fairview Public School and lived in the Globe area prior to her marriage.

After the Hoffmanns were married, they spent two years farming then located in the City of Neillsville, where Hoffmann was a carpenter for 48 years, owning his own shop during later years. Mrs. Hoffmann was a cook at St, John's School and later in the dietary department of Memorial Hospital, Neillsville.

Hoffman retired eight years ago, his wife 3 1/2 years ago. Their children are Lewis Hoffmann of Fond du Lac, Mrs. Dianne Thompson of Rockford, Illinois and Mrs. Mary Sue Kopp and Richard Hoffmann, both of Neillsville. Another daughter, Arlene, died in 1936 when she was 3. There are 14 grandchildren.

A buffet-reception February 3 at the clubhouse of the Walnut Creek Manor, Walnut Creek, Calif., honored the golden wedding anniversary of Louise and Bernard Hogue, formerly of Cudahy and Greenwood, and for the last seven years residents of Walnut Creek, Calif.

Mrs. Carol Hogue Jackim and Mrs. W. James (Sharon) Smith, daughters of the couple, were hostesses at the buffet which was attended by 70 friends and relatives. Daughter, Mrs. Robert Ross (Kathleen) Smith, of Vienna, VA., was unable to attend, but she and her family has spent the Christmas holidays with her parents, at which time recognition of the forthcoming anniversary was given by way of a special cake shared by family and close friends.

Four of the Hogues’ five grandchildren were present for the February 3 observance. Out-of-town guests attending included Mr. and Mrs. Fred Eggett, formerly of Greenwood and now of Venice, Calif. Mr. Hogue’s brother, Clarence, of Merrillan, was unable to attend.

The many cards of greeting and congratulations received by the couple were displayed on floor to ceiling gold ribbons in the clubhouse. Mrs. Hogue’s anniversary corsage and her husband’s boutonniere both contained ivy grown from sprigs of English ivy included in the wedding bouquet carried by their daughter, Sharon, at her wedding in Wisconsin in 1965.

Mr. Hogue is a native of Greenwood, where he built the first radio in the community. He held a Ham radio license from approximately 1917 until failing health forced him to retire from the airwaves in recent years. During most of that time, he was a member of the American radio relay league.

Bernard Hogue is the son of William E. and Ingebor Hogue who operated a Greenwood dairy farm for many years. William Hogue was the son of Charles and Mathilda Hogue pioneers in Greenwood, whose one surviving child, Mrs. John (Nelly Hogue) Buhite, lives in Portland, Ore. Mrs. Buhite was unable to attend her nephew’s anniversary observance. Ingebor Peterson Hogue was the daughter of Elias Andrea Peterson who arrived in Greenwood in the early 1870’s from Trondheim, Norway, and spent the remainder of their lives in Greenwood. Until recent years, the Greenwood telephone company was owned by their descendants. Elias Peterson operated a shoe shop in the small building next to the present telephone office for many years.

Bernard Hogue worked in Gullard’s drug store while he attended Greenwood High School, and after graduation attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and Milwaukee State Teachers’ College (while working in Milwaukee area drugstores). He earned his Master’s degree in Education from Marquette University.

Mrs. Hogue was born Louise Kaiser in Bay City, Mich., grew up in Milwaukee, graduated from Washington High School there, and later attended what is now the University of Wisconsin-Superior. For several years she taught in a country school near Greenwood.

The Hogues were married February 3, 1923, in Waukegan, Ill. Mr. Hogue was principal of the Washington School in Cudahy at the time of their marriage. He served as principal of Cudahy schools from 1922 until his retirement in the spring of 1965, retiring as principal of Cudahy High School after many years in that capacity. During their years in Cudahy, the Hogues were active in many civic, fraternal and church organizations.

Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Hohenstein of Rt. 2 Granton, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Saturday with an open house at their home.

They were married September 30, 1950, in the Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church by the Rev. Virgil Nulton. They have six children: Gene, Cheryl, Gary, Dale, David and Terry.

The celebration Saturday was attended by manty friends and relatives. Games were played, a lunch was served, and the weather cooperated beautifully.

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hohl of Greenwood celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday.  Relatives were entertained at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Anita Miller.
 

Mr. Hohl, 77, was born February 4, 1881, in Waltzenhausen, Switzerland, and Mrs. Hohl, nee Katharine Sonderegger, 71, was born in Berneck, Switzerland, March 14, 1887.
 

They were married May 4, 1908, in Waltzenhausen, where Mr. Hohl was a wagon-maker.  The couple came to the United States in March 1911 and lived in southern Wisconsin for three years, coming to Greenwood in the spring of 1914.  They purchased a farm east of Greenwood, on which they lived until 1954, when they retired and came to the city to reside.
 

Present for the occasion were their three children, Fred Hohl and wife, Walter Hohl and wife, and Mrs. Anita Miller, all of Greenwood; also four of their five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren attended the celebration. They are Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Gladys) Bartelt and children, James, Jane and Ann, and Sandra and Bruce Miller, all of Greenwood, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald (Nancy) Ellingson and children, Mary and Laurie of Marshfield.  A grandson, Pvt. David Hohl of Fort Knox, Ky., could not be present.

Other news of this family - Mrs. Martha Sonderegger of Miami, Fla., and her sister, Mrs. Ida Thurnheer of Beneck, Switzerland, are visiting with Mrs. Sonderegger’s son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Wells. Sunday they attended the golden wedding celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hohl.  Mrs. Hohl is a sister-in-law of Mrs. Sonderegger, a former Greenwood resident.

Mayville – Mr. and Mrs. John Hollenstein recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, all of their four sons and two daughters being present. Mr. Hollenstein was born in Switzerland in 1842, and came to Wisconsin in 1869, lived at Woodland, Dodge County, four years, and came to Mayville in 1873, engaging in the manufacture of wagons.

"Frank Hollmann and Christena Fleckenstein were married Tuesday, Jan. 9, 1906, at nine o’clock at St. Louis Catholic Church, Rev. August Birschner officiating. The couple were attended by Frank Fleckenstein, brother of the bride, Joe Erli, Elsie Swaermer and Mary Jantsch. After the ceremony, the wedding party ate breakfast at the home of the bride’s parents, after which they went to the home of the groom in the town of Holton, where they made merry until morning. The bride is one of Dorchester’s (Clark Co., Wis.) most popular young ladies and the groom is also well known, living on a farm in the town of Holton. They start in with the most cordial wishes of a multitude of friends for a happy and prosperous journey in life together."

The above item appeared in the local paper 25 years ago and today brings the 25th wedding anniversary of the happy and prosperous couple. Along with this silver wedding celebration comes the 49th wedding anniversary of Mrs. Hollmann’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Val Fleckenstein. They were married at Milwaukee and have resided here since 1901. Mr. Fleckenstein erected the building now occupied by the Dorchester Hardware Co.

After fifteen successful years in the hardware business, Mr. Fleckenstein sold his establishment to the Garbisch brothers, and moved onto the farm east of this village where they have since resided.

The day certainly is one of celebration in the Fleckenstein and Hollmann homes and the Clarion joins the many friends in offering congratulations and wishing much happiness and joy in future years.
