On Saturday, October 8, 1977, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gaddis will be celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary. The Gaddis’ live on a farm five miles west of Withee, where they have farmed since they moved to the area in 1959.

They were married on October 8, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa. They later farmed in Northwester Iowa before moving to the Withee area. Mrs. Gaddis is presently employed at the Clark County Health Care Center.

Their son, Arthur Gaddis has a farm south of Withee on Highway 73, and has a herd of registered Ayrshire cattle. Larry Gaddis, another son, works on his folks’ 450 acre dairy farm.

Sixty neighbors, friends and relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Galetka, Sr., on Saturday, April 26, to offer congratulations in observance of the Galetkas’ silver wedding anniversary.

Out of town guests came from Madison, Elkhorn, Waukesha, Lake Geneva, Granton, Wausaukee, Waterford, Porterfield, Hawkins, Pittsville and Plover.

The Galetkas were married April 29, 1950, at Waterford and have lived on Rt. 1 Neillsville, for the past 15 years. Mrs. Galetka is the former Lois Fleischmann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilhelm Fleischmann, Sr., of Rt. 1 Granton.

Mr. and Mrs. Galetka are parents of seven children: Mrs. Brian (Nancy) Schell of Madison, Mrs. Steven (Susan) Daniels of Rt. 1 Neillsville, Charles, Jr., of Neillsville and Joseph, Margie, Richard and Terri at home. There are three grandchildren: Jon and Jodie Schell and Tina Daniels.  

Gall, Mr./Mrs. Theodore (25th - 10 April 1944)

A surprise for Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Gall was arranged by their daughter, Mrs. Egbert Gerhardt, in honor of their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, which occurred on Monday, April 10. The party to which eighteen relatives and friends were invited was held Monday evening at their home on West 12th Street. The time was spent visiting and playing sheep head and 500. A lunch, including a beautiful wedding cake baked by Mr. Gall’s sister, Mrs. Edward Gault, was served at midnight. The guests presented Mr. and Mrs. Gall a silver purse. Their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Egbert Gerhardt, gave them a small silver tree on which were tied twenty-five silver dollars.

Clarence was born on November 23, 1906, in Necedah to William and Ada Ganther. He received his education in that area. Letha was born on March 15, 1917, in Granton, to Floyd and Laura Pietenpol. She received her education in Granton and Eau Claire.

After the couple’s marriage, they lived in New Lisbon where he ope3rated a service station and she worked as a beautician. After three years, they moved to Granton, taking over her parent’s farm operation. The couple retired in 1974 to third generation owners after 37 years on the farm.

The couple had three children, Lee of Marshfield, William of Granton and Mrs. John (Marge) Buriegh of Isanti, MN. They have two grandchildren.

Attending the recent anniversary reception was Elaine Downer, a member of the original bridal party. Also present were guests from Litchfield, MN, and the Wisconsin communities of New Lisbon, Milwaukee, Necedah, Wausau, Marshfield, Prescott, Madison and Eau Claire.

It was September14, 1940, when Clarence Ganther and Letha Pietenpol were united in Marriage in services at the Neillsville Congregational Church. Since that time the couple have lived in New Lisbon and spent a majority of their years together in the rural Granton area.

On September 13 of this year, the couple were honored on their 40th wedding anniversary, an event held at the Granton Sportsmen’s Club. The buffet style dinner for 65 guests featured tables decorated in red and white. The Rev. William Noble of the United Methodist Church gave opening and closing prayers. A dance was held that evening with music being offered by Beauty and the Beast, which features the couple’s son, Lee.

The celebration was also marked with special flowers, yellow rosebuds with red and white mums. A wedding cake was given by Elaine Downer, a sister-in-law of the couple.

Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Garbisch of Granton will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Saturday, May 30, at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Garbisch, with an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. for all relatives, friends and neighbors. They were married June 2, 1920, at Mapleworks Lutheran Church by the Rev. Martin Hasz. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Helm and Marcus Garbisch and Ardina Helm Nowack were the attendants.

Arnold Garbisch was born August 18, 1897, to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Garbisch in the Town of Grant. He attended school there and also the Granton School. The former Gertrude Helm was born February 20, 1900, to Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Helm in the Town of Lynn. She received her education in Lynn and at the Zion Lutheran School.

Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Garbisch farmed in the Town of York for 13 years, and then moved to Granton where he was employed in plumbing and electrical work for Lee Bluett. In 1948, Mr. Garbisch established his own electrical and plumbing business.

Mr. Garbisch’s hobbies are hunting, fishing, and gardening, and Mr. Garbisch likes to do sewing, rug making, quilting and also gardening.

Mr. and Mrs. Garbisch have three sons and two daughters, Leland and Marvin Garbisch and Mrs. Joyce Opelt, all of Granton, Mrs. Lorraine Wenck of Woodstock, Ill., and Erlin Garbisch of Slinger. There are 18 grandchildren and all are expected for the occasion. No invitations will be sent, all relatives and friends are welcome to attend the open house.

Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Garbisch of Eagle River were guests from Wednesday until Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Endel. Mrs. Garbisch and Mrs. Endel are sisters. The former Ethel and Marie Thoma grew up in Neillsville and attended school there. June 6 being the 45th wedding anniversary of Herbert and Ethel Garbisch, the event was celebrated at a dinner in the evening for 18 guests at the Wildcat Inn. A beautifully decorated cake, made by Joan Ayers Bertz of Loyal, and 18 red roses presented by Mr. Garbisch, honored the occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Nordstrom of Wisconsin Rapids were Sunday evening visitors at the Endel Home.

Tammy and Christi Endel are spending this week with their grandparents, the Norbert Endels.

The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Garbush was celebrated Friday, November 4, 1949, at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Garbush.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Garbush have spent their entire lives in Clark County. Mr. Garbush was the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Garbush, and was born in the Town of Grant, May 11, 1876. He received his education there; worked in his early years in lumbering; later became a farmer.

Mrs. Garbush was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Jensen. She was born in the Town of Lynn October 5, 1880. She received her education in the local school. They were married in 1899 by the Rev. Thom, Lutheran pastor of Marshfield.

The Garbushes have two children - Mrs. Edwin Barth, Town of Fremont, now on a vacation in the west, and Lee, Town of Lynn. The Lee Garbushes have one child, Carol Garbush. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Garbush also raised a foster son, Albert Masephol.

The supper was prepared by Mrs. Sophia Martens of Greenwood, and was served by Miss Mabel Ann Martens.

Mr. and Mrs. John Gatz of Greenwood were honored at a surprise Silver wedding anniversary celebration, hosted by their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Bredlau at their home in Neillsville Sunday afternoon.

John Gatz and Marion Susa were married February 16, 1946, in Chicago. Since May of that year they have farmed southwest of Greenwood. Besides their daughter, Mrs. Bredlau, they have another daughter, Cheryl, at home. Guests from the surrounding area and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Titterman, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ollerman, and Mrs. Helen Ollerman of Morris, Ill., were present.

Mr. and Mrs. Otto Gaulke of Chili celebrated their golden wedding anniversary September 30 at Christ Lutheran Church, Chili. Their attendants, Mrs. Hattie Erler and Albert Gaulke, both of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Ida Kleinschmidt, Granton, were present.

At 4:30 p.m. the Rev. L. A. Schreiber, pastor, presided at a short service and prayer.  Mrs. Schreiber sang a hymn.  A congratulatory message and a song, "When My Wedding Ring Was New" were played on a tape recorder, the recording being made by their grandchildren of Mondamin, Ia., who were unable to attend.

A surprise was the "Golden Wedding Song," the music and lyrics composed by a niece of Mrs. Gaulke, Mrs. Norman Faber of Granton.  It was played and sung by Mrs. Elmer Steffen and Mrs. Norman Faber.

Mrs. Gaulke wore a corsage of bronze carnations and yellow rosebuds, secured with ribbon of gold.  Her husband had a yellow boutonniere.

A supper was served that evening to 55 guests. A three-tiered cake and large floral centerpiece of yellow rosebuds and white chrysanthemums, gifts of their children, centered the table. Wedding bells and streamers of gold trimmed the hall.

Decorations in the church parlors included a golden money tree, a golden planter of money, a plate of coin and an arched shoe with a setting of miniature bride and groom, a photo of each of their children secured to golden leaves. Gifts and money were received by the honored couple.

Mr. Gaulke was born November 13, 1883 in Milwaukee, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gaulke.  He received his education in that city and was employed as an iron molder.

Mrs. Gaulke, the former Clara Franke, was born on May 15, 1891, the daughter of the late Oscar and Anna Franke, in Calumet County. She received her education in Clark County.

They were married September 30, 1911, at Cross Lutheran Church in Milwaukee, by the Rev. John Strassen.  They lived in that city for three years and then came to Clark County in 1914, settling on a farm near Chili.  In 1947 they retired.  Mr. and Mrs. Gaulke are members of Christ Lutheran Church of Chili.

They are the parents of three sons and four daughters, all of whom were in attendance.  They include: Clarence Gaulke, Mrs. Lorrayne Reder, Mrs. Richard (Esther) Uschold, Edwin and Warren Gaulke, Mrs. Walter (Verna) Roehl, and Mrs. George (Irene) Schecklman.  They also have 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.) - Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Geary, Curtiss, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Saturday, Oct. 8, 1949. A chicken supper was served at 7:30 p.m. in the Evangelical Lutheran Parish Hall, Curtiss. Mrs. Geary wore a black dress and a corsage of red roses given to her by her four children. The Gearys received a purse of money and many other gifts. Mrs. Geary’s mother and two sisters presented here with a three-tiered wedding cake.

Later in the evening a dance was held at the Cherokee dance hall. During the evening Norman Erickson and Bill Geary sang several selections.

C. W. GEARY’S FETED AT THEIR 40TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Geary, who were married on October 6, 1924, in Hoard celebrated the 40th anniversary of that event on Saturday, October 10, by a surprise planned by their children. A family dinner was given at 7:00 o’clock p.m. at the Viking Café, Stanley. Following this they came to Curtiss where a reception awaited them at the village council rooms. They were presented with gifts and a tree decorated with dollar bills. Refreshments were served from a beautifully decorated table with a huge cake as centerpiece.

Mr. and Mrs. Geary lived on a farm in Hoard until March, 1951, when they purchased the Schwandt General Store and moved to the village.

Their children are Mrs. Clifford (Betty) Nenzel of Stanley, William Geary of Markesan and Dorothy at home. There are seven grandchildren. Relatives from away included Mr. and Mrs. William Geary Markesan, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Nenzel and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson of Stanley, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Longway, Mrs.Bill Veghlan, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stockmeyer, Mrs. Minnie Geary, all of La Crosse. Mrs. Julie Engh, Coon Valley, Walter Nicks Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Walter Nicks, Charles Lehman, Owen and a large number of village and area residents.

On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Geary served dinner to the out of town guests and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Geary and daughter, Sue, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Maki and son, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Erickson.

A Curtiss couple, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Geary, observed their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, October 6, at the Medo Farms restaurant in Abbotsford.

The Gearys farmed in the Town of Hoard for 27 years before buying the Curtiss grocery store in May of 1951. Both have been active in community affairs. Mr. Geary was village treasurer for many years and is presently a member of the Clark County Board of Supervisors. He is also an avid fisherman. Mildred Geary’s hobbies are crocheting and knitting. They enjoy camping and camp every summer weekend.

Mr. and Mrs. Geary are parents of three children: Dorothy, at home, Mrs. Clifford (Betty) Nenzel of Stanley and Bill of Baraboo. There are eight grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Len Gehrke entertained about 50 guests Sunday, May 23, for dinner at their house in the Town of Sherman in honor of 50th Wedding anniversary of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gehrke Sr. of Marshfield route 4.

The table was beautifully decorated with a white and gold wedding cake made by their daughter, Mrs. Rollie Lee of Sheboygan, mounted on golden stairs with gold candles and Lilly of the Valley on each stair and flanked by Calla Lilies, with a minature [sic] bride and groom on top of the cake.

The home was decorated with gold en bells and streamers.

All nine children were present for the occasion as were 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

A fiftieth wedding anniversary, which was not observed on Oct. 26th, owing to the illness of John E. Geiger, who has been confined to his home for the past five weeks, might be of interest to friends and acquaintances.

John E. Geiger and Miss Gertie A. Andrew of Brooklyn, Green Co., Wis., were united at high noon, Thursday, Oct. 26, 1887, at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund J. Andrew by Rev. J.E. Coleman at Evansville, Wis. Many relatives and friends attended and after the ceremony a wedding dinner was served. The couple left on the afternoon train for a wedding trip and upon their return home the Brooklyn band serenaded the couple on the Andrew lawn and were then invited into the home where a dainty lunch was served by Miss Hattie Andrew, sister of the bride.

Mrs. Alta McComb was the only guest to attend both wedding fifty years ago and the Golden Wedding anniversary. Mr. Geiger purchased the A.A. Arnold 170-acre farm northeast of Thorp in Dec. 1899, and moved here with his family, operating the farm for 13 years before selling and building their present home in this village.

Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Geisler, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), former residents of Greenwood and the west side, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home in Owen on Sunday, May 8, 1960, by entertaining 36 relatives and friends at a buffet dinner and reception. A 3-tier wedding cake centered the table and was decorated with gold roses and bouquets of yellow daffodils. Golden leaves were presented to each guest.

Mrs. Geisler wore a corsage of yellow roses and Mr. Geisler a boutonniere of yellow carnations during the celebration. At the 2 to 5 p.m. receptions, Misses Betty, Caroline and Evelyn Geisler, granddaughters of the couple, were in charge of serving.

The Rev. Otto Saewert officiated at the marriage which took place in Greenwood on May 4, 1910.

Mr. Geisler was born on January 25, 1885 in the town of Warner (Clark Co.). He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Geisler, and received his education in the Braun Settlement School. His occupations have been farming, logging and carpentering in the Greenwood area.

Mr. Geisler was assessor of the town of Warner for a number of years. He enjoys good health and goes fishing and hunting.

Mrs. Geisler is the former Katherine Kuehn and was born on Oct. 6, 1891 in Dodge County to Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Kuehn. She was educated in the Decker School in the town of Warner and lived in the Greenwood area before her marriage. She also enjoys good health and her hobby is sewing.

Mr. and Mrs. Geisler are members of the West Side Reformed (United Church of Christ) Church. They farmed in the town of Warner except for the eyar 1943, when they resided in Owen. They then returned and farmed until their retirement in June of 1959.

The honored couple has two children, Norman Geisler of Owen, and Ervin Geisler of Greenwood. They have four grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Anton Gengler began their observance of their golden wedding anniversary by attending the 8:00 o’clock mass Sunday morning at St. Bernard’s Catholic church. With them were all of the children and 34 of their 40 grand children. Mrs. Elizabeth (Rix) May and Nick Gengler, attendants at the marriage 50 years ago, stood beside them Sunday as they repeated their marriage vows, with the Rev. Raymond Schulz officiating.

They were married April 19, 1909, at St. Bernard’s Catholic church, Thorp.

A dinner was served at noon in the Knights of Columbus hall at Medford. To about 80 relatives and close friends. The table was beautifully decorated with gold pom pons, a decorated cake and May flowers, gathered in the woods by the grand children.

The Rev. Raymond Schulz said grace and gave a short talk. Frank Nikolay was master of ceremonies and each of the children responded to the toasts.

In the afternoon, about 300 persons called at the open house to offer congratulations. Friends and relatives came from West Bend, Stanley, Thorp, Medford, Plover, Wisconsin Rapids, Molitor, Colby and Abbotsford.

The honored couple received many beautiful gifts on the occasion.

Mrs. Gengler, was born Catherine Bodewin, Sept. 25, 1879 at Dacada, Wisconsin, and Mr. Gengler was born near Port Washington, Dec. 19, 1884.

The Genglers operated a farm in the town of Molitor for a number of years. Mr. Gengler was also in the bulk oil business in Medford and for a 10 year period, the family lived at Rice Lake and then returned to Medford.

Mr. and Mrs. Gengler have lived in Abbotsford the past seven years. He is employed by the Marathon-Clark Cooperative Dairy Association.

The Genglers have seven children; Mrs. Catherine Neder, Mooseheart, Ill.; Mrs. Theresa Zeman, Abbotsford; Anthony and Mathew Gengler and Mrs. Walter (Isabel) Sigmund, town of Molitor; Eugene, West Bend; Mrs. Edwin (Dolores) Sigmund, Wisconsin Rapids.

Mrs. Gengler has one brother, Joe Bodewin, of Medford and Mr. Gengler has two brothers, Nick, of Medford; and Joe, of Thorp.

The children of Mr. and Mrs. William Genteman of Chili honored their parents in observance of their 35th wedding anniversary with an open house Satruday evening at the Chili Corners Club.

The Gentemans former Town of York residents, eloped to Waukon, Ia., on Thursday, August 10, 1939. Mr. and Mrs. Gust DeMert of Neillsville accompanied the couple as witnesses, and were present to mark their 35th anniversary with them. Upon their return to Neillsville, the newlyweds were honored at a wedding dance at Hake’s where her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Foemmel, joined the wedding party.

At the time of their marriage, the former Lura Mills, was employed at the Wells Harvey office in Neillsville, and her husband was employed by Lisle Armitage, rural Neillsville.

After selling their farm in the Town of York, the couple, together with their daughter and son-in-law,

Mr. and Mrs. David Berlick, operated a grocery store in Chili for a time. Last year, the Gentemans sold their interest to the Berlicks; Mrs. Genteman, however continues to work in the store. Mr. Genteman is busy as patrolman for the Town of Fremont and he operates his own sanitation service.

The couple are parents of six children, Mrs. Francis (Bonnie) Langreck of rural Granton, Mrs. David (Betty) Berlick of Chili, Mrs. William (Barbara) Lucas of Willard, William Jr., Oak Creek, and Larry and Vern Genteman of Chili. Only their son, William Jr., was unable to attend the anniversary observance. There are 16 grandchildren.

Alfred Gerber and the former Miss Aurelia Elmhorst were married “The Old Fashioned Way.” That is how the event is described in a newspaper clipping of 50 years ago. The story is as follows:

“Mr. Alfred Gerber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gerber, of the Town of Grant, and Miss Aurelia Elmhorst, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dick Elmhorst, of the Town of York, were united in marriage at the Mapleworks Lutheran Parsonage by Rev. Hasz Thanksgiving afternoon. They were attended by Miss Rocelia Gerber, sister of the groom, and Elmer Elmhorst, brother of the bride.

“The bride’s aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Dahling of Chicago, Illinois, came unexpected to see that the bridal party was escorted safely to the home of the bride’s parents where a wedding supper was served. Not having much faith in the modern conveyance, they escorted them home in the old fashioned way which was a team of horses and a hay rack with newlywed signs and a cow bell attached to make sure they would have no blow outs. The bridal auto decorated in pink and while ribbons preceded the hay rack, announcing by blowing the horn the coming of the bridal party.

“After the supper was served by Miss Emma Elmhorst and Miss Lydia Sternitzky a pleasant evening was spent by playing Bunco.

“The young couple will go to housekeeping on the groom’s farm south of Granton.”

The Gerbers are parents of five sons: Alfred, Jr., of Rockford, Il., Harland of Neillsville, Walter of Humbird, Merlin of Madison and Lowell of Rockford. There are 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A prayer of Thanksgiving was read on the couple’s behalf by the Rev. Norman W. Lindloff of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church on Sunday, November 25.

Harley German and Loretta Melvin were married August 6, 1923 in Black River Falls. Their four sons are Stanley and Warren of Owen, Harold of Thorp and Donald of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Mr. and Mrs. F.H. Gibbs were married at Bradley, Mich. On July 5, 1890 and observed their golden wedding at their home near Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) on last Friday, July 5, 1940.

A bounteous turkey dinner was served at one o’clock to the very close friends and relatives, after which numerous letters, telegrams and cards of congratulations were read. The afternoon was spent singing love songs of the past as well as of the present, and many pictures were taken of the various groups present. One especially interesting group was one of Mr. Gibbs and his only living brother, A.L. Gibbs of Park Falls, together with three other old schoolmates, J.A. Bishop of Westfield, Wis., G.W. Bassett of Austin, Minn., and Mrs. E. Frew of Newhall, Calif.

In the evening many other guests called to offer congratulations and their very best wishes for many more happy wedding anniversaries. The Busy Bee Homemakers’ Club, of which Mrs. Gibbs was organizer as well as a present active member, called in a group and furnished very fitting entertainment by singing songs and giving several readings in keeping with the occasion. The male quartet of South Worden sang four very lovely numbers which all enjoyed and Rev. L. Hyde of Stanley, spoke a few words and offered prayer.

Besides receiving many beautiful gifts as well as several gold baskets filled with gold flowers, Mr. and Mrs. Gibbs were presented with a purse of money from the Busy Bee homemakers’ Club and the numerous friends and relatives. Mr. Gibbs wore a gold rosebud boutonniere and Mrs. Gibbs a corsage of gold rose buds. Which were also gifts from the Behern Greenhouse of Stanley.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Giese, Route 1, Edgar, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, September 7, 1974.

An open house was held at their home in the afternoon, a dinner was held at Peace Lutheran Church, and dance was held at the Abbotsford City Hall. The Rev. Lewis Davidson gave a sermon at the church program, and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wenzel, sister and brother-in-law of Mrs. Giese, were the vocalists.

Members of the original wedding party attending the observance were Mr. and Mrs. August Giese, Route 1, Edgar, and Mr. and Mrs. August Giese, Route 1, Edgar, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hoerner, Edgar.

Giese was born December 4, 1902 in the town of Frankfort, and his wife, the former Elsie Schmidt, was born May 21, 1905 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

They were married September 4, 1934 in Peace Lutheran Church, Town of Frankfort. They have farmed on Route 1, Edgar the past 56 years, and are continuing to farm on a small scale.

Giese plays dirtball and works in the wood. Mrs. Giese enjoys flower gardening, knitting and quilting. She is active in church work and is a Sunday School teacher.

Their children are William, Route 1, Edgar, Mrs. Robert Erickson, Cory, Illinois, Noreen, Marshfield, Meldon, Edgar, Mrs. Roger Stremer, Millbury, Mass., and Etola , Phillips. There are 11 grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Milford Gilbert celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary June 14, 1972 at Abbotsford City Hall with an open house from 1 to 4 p.m.

Milford Gilbert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Gilbert, and violet Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller, were united in marriage April 19, 1931 at the home of her parents in the town of Halsey. The Reverend G. W. Zimmer officiated and James and Arian Gilbert, brother and sister of the groom, were attendants.

During their 40 years of marriage the lived at Green Bay and Greenleaf, Wisconsin, where he was pastor of the Community Church. They moved to New Holstein and later to Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

In 1940 they moved to Clark County and lived at Pelsdorf and Loyal, and held services at Butler and Neillsville. Serving as pastor at Veefkind, near Spencer, they later moved to Dorchester and held services at Medford. They then moved to Colby and Abbotsford.

The couple has nine children, Allen, Minneapolis, Nathan, Appleton, Janet, Sioux Falls, Jonathon, Juneau, Wis., Ruth, Marshfield, Phillip, serving in the Air Force at Altus, Oklahoma, Neil, Mayville, and Deborah and Dale are at home. They have 18 grandchildren.

Mrs. Gilbert, a housewife, likes to knit, crochet and work in the garden.

Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Glenzer celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at the Curtiss Hall Wednesday evening. Many relatives and friends attend the celebration given by their children.

Huber Glenzer and Hilda Laabs were married June 27, 1923, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Green Grove (Clark Co., Wis.). The late Rev. M.C. Goetsch performed the ceremony. Their attendants, all of whom are still living and who all attended the festivities, were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Laabs of Owen, Dorothy Heyer, the former's sister, of Wausau, and Ray Sommer, cousin of the bride, of Phoenix, Arizona.

The Glenzers have three children, Huber Glenzer Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska; Mrs. Ethel Wholen of Gonzales, California, and Ellen Bowen of Milwaukee. They also have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

All their children and grandchildren ere able to attend the event, except on granddaughter, Wendy Whelen of California.

They are both retired and enjoying good health. They spend a great deal of their time up at their son's cottage at Holcombe.

The community wishes them many more years of wedded bliss.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Goeltz Jr. celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on Saturday night at the city hall in Colby.

The children gave the party after taking their parents out for supper. The children gave an orchid corsage to their mother and a boutonniere to their father. A large cake was the centerpiece.

All the attendants were present. They were: Francis Nietzel, Valery Beisner and Donald Beuhring.

Mr. and Mrs. John Goetz will observe their 59th wedding anniversary June 5th. No special occasion will mark the day other than a family get together at a later date.

Mr. and Mrs. Goetz are enjoying good health.  Mr. Goetz is very active.  He keeps a good garden and walks to church and downtown regularly, while Mrs. Goetz is somewhat confined to the house.

Robert “Bob” and Arletta “Arlie” Goldamer celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary July 25 at the Meadowview Golf Curse n Owen. Approximately 150 friends and relatives attended.

The theme of the festivities was “A Day of Nostalgia,” with a presentation by Joe Dietein, their granddaughter Julie’s husband. He told of the honored couple’s five year relationship which began in 1940 in high school, and continued with a proposal in 1943, and marriage June 6, 1945, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Dorchester by Rev. John Brandt. The Goldamers are members of Christ Lutheran Church, Abbotsford.

Robert, after graduating from Abbotsford High School in 1942, attended vocational school in Superior to study telegraphy, then began employment for the Soo Line Railroad. He worked at several locations until 1957 before he came to Abbotsford. When the depots closed, he became as a traveling agent with the main office in Marshfield and retired in 1986 after 45 years of service.

Arletta graduated from Dorchester High School in 1941 and furthered her education at Marathon County Normal in Wausau. She taught at several rural schools. When districts consolidated, she began teaching at Abbotsford Elementary in 1958. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire, earning a bachelor’s degree in 1963. She taught mainly fifth grade, retiring in 1984 after 40 years in education.

The family included two sons, John, Abbotsford and Steve, Minnesota; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One daughter, Sue, died in 2011.

Guests came from the local area and other Wisconsin cities including Oshkosh, Eau Claire, Bayfield, Rice Lake, Hawkins, Waupaca and Kewaunee, Out of state guest came from Minnesota and Illinois.

Music and entertainment were provided by a band consisting of Howie Sturtz, Lyle Miller, Lori (Lindau) Denzine and John Goldamer. Arlie’s brother, Mel Lindau, had been a member of Howie Sturtz’s Orchestra for several years.

Much of the music performed was from the 1940’s era. John Goldamer sang a song for his parents, “Look At Us,” and Howie sang a favorite, “When My Old Wedding Ring Was New.” Don Kieser added his talent with “God Bless America.”

Many nice gifts were received by Mr. and Mrs. Gosar, including a beautiful cake made by Mrs. Anne Sladich.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gosse celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on May 27. A dinner was served at the Evangelical and Reformed hall. The tables were beautifully decorated with candles and flowers. The afternoon was spent with entertainment at the Colby city hall.

Mr. Gosse and the former Ida Lube were married on May 24, 1911, in St. Paul’s Lutheran church at Green Grove by the late Rev. August Berend. Mr. Gosse was born in the town of Mosel, Sheboygan county. Mrs. Gosse was born in the town of Colby where they purchased a farm on which they now reside.

They have seven children, six were present with their families, namely: Mrs. Arthur (Anita) Schuh of Colby, Mrs. Edwin (Viola) Ewert of Wausau, Herman of Colby, Melvin of Curtiss, Mrs. Alvin (Marion) Krueger of Curtiss, Mrs. Alfred (Harriet) Laabs of Owen. Mrs. Roman (Dorothy) Radriguez of North Carolina was not present. They also have 15 grand children and six great grand children. All were present.

One of the original attendants, Mrs. Henry Lake, was also present. She and Mrs. Gosse wore gold corsages. Mrs. Gosse also wore a gold bracelet, a gift of her husband 51 years ago.

The Loyal United Methodist Church was the site for the golden wedding anniversary of Celen and Harriet Gotter of Loyal on Saturday afternoon, August 22. Over 160 friends and relatives were in attendance.

The couple and their attendants wore gold corsages and boutonnieres. Yellow flowers decorated the room.

During the program, Helen Axelson, Loyal, recalled school memories of her years with the former Harriet Verhulst while they were students in the Greenwood Schools.

The Gotter’s daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Paul Decker, San Diego, California, sang a special selection for the couple. Slides of the Gotter and Verhulst families were also shown. A tape created by their grandchildren, Greg and Jane Decker (the latter now Mrs. David Conrad), was played.

Harriet Verhulst was born in the Town of Longwood to Peter and Elizabeth (Voskuil) Verhulst. Celen was the son of Richard and Alvina (Bealer-Jensen) Gotter and was born at the Star Corner Cheese Factory where his parents worked.

Celen moved to various cheese factories with his parent s when he was young. He learned the cheesemaking trade at the age of seven. In 1927, he worked at Braun Auto in Loyal and later at Luchterhand Transfer, Eazy Camper and Roth Manufacturing, all in Loyal.

Harriet worked in Sheboygan after her education and then at various stores in Greenwood before going to Loyal to work for T.B. Colby, Davel’s Store and the Citizen’s State Bank, the latter from which she retired.

Celen has served as president of the Loyal Rotary Club and on the board of the Clark County Historical Society. He also was on the board of the Loyal Public Schools from 1939 into the 1960’s.

He is also a member of the Loyal Methodist Church’s Men’s Club. Harriet is a member of the United Methodist Women, the Women’s Club, the Garden Club, The Pelsdorf Homemakers and is an oracle in Royal Neighbors.

Both are active in their church. She taught Sunday School for many years and was elementary superintendent while Celen served as superintendent.

Celen now enjoys gardening and fishing. She likes to knit, crochet and do garden work.

The couple were married on August 20, 1931, in the Greenwood United Methodist Church. The attendants were her sister, now Grace Dugre of New Berlin; his sisters, now Lorene Luchterhand and Elaine Degenhardt, both of Marshfield; his brothers, Harvey, now of Springfield, Oregon, and Elroy, now of Eau Claire; and her nephew, Lyle Verhulst, Loyal.

During their earlier married life, their primary school age grandchildren stayed with them to attend school in Loyal. (The Deckers were at that time on missionary work.)

Celen and Harriet enjoy traveling and have tone to Africa to visit their daughter, son-in-law and family who were there in church work.

In a 7 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, May 24, 1975 Sheryl Ann Decker, Unity, became the bride of Glen Roger Cole, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cole, Route 2, Colby.

Pastor Robin Fink and Pastor Ronald Schultz performed the ceremony at Zion Lutheran Church, Colby. Mrs. Howard Rannow was the organist and Linda Schultz was the soloist.

Given in marriage by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Decker, the bride chose a full tiered gown of Chantilly lace, accented with a chapel train. Her fingertip veil was attached to a headpiece of Chantilly lace petals. She carried a cascade bouquet of mums surround by miniature carnations, yellow roses and stephanotis.

Mrs. Charles E. Flick, Colby, attended her sister and matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Linda Decker, Unity, sister of the bride, and a friend, Mrs. Jim Zahn, Spencer.

The attendants were dressed in floor length gowns of green and wite dotted Swiss, short puffed sleeved bodices. They wore picture hats with green ribbons and carried colonial bouquets of white mums and green tinted carnations and baby’s breath.

Richard Podevels, Colby, a friend of the bridegroom, was the best man, and groomsmen were Donald Leichtnam, Colby, a cousin of the bridegroom, and his brother, Ken Cole. Dennis Decker and Jack Cole seated the guests.

Following the ceremony a reception, dinner and dance were held at the Sword, Colby.

The bride is a 1973 graduate of Colby High School and is a secretary at ILC Products, Spencer. Her husband graduated from the same school in 1972 and is plant manager at Harris Cheese Factory, Unity.

The newlyweds will make their home in Colby.

Mr. and Mrs. George Grabara Sr., Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary, Sunday, December 13, 1964, by attending a 1:00 High Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Edward Hartung officiating, and 3 grandsons as servers, and their son and son-in-law as ushers.

Mrs. Grabara was seen in a lavender dress with corsage of yellow mums and a boutonniere for Mr. Grabara. They had a dinner for approximately 40 guests at Langreck's. The table was decorated for the occasion and a large cake baked and decorated by their son.

Mike Graikowski, 91, came from Poland with his family at the age of 3, and lived in Illinois for a short time, and then came to Wisconsin. Josephine (Lesniewski) Graikowski, 87, came by train from Pennsylvania to Chicago when young, and then to Wisconsin. Mike Graikowski and Josephine Lesniewski were married January 19, 1902 at St. Hedwig's Church by Father Ignatz Orlik. They will reside in rural Thorp, where they farmed all their married life.

They had six children, three boys and 3 girls, John Graikowski, Thorp, route 1, Mike Graikowski, Chicago, (Evelyn) Mrs. Adam Winter, Thorp, (Sophie) Mrs. Henry Arndt, Hanover Park, Illinois. Stanley and Lottie are deceased. They also have 20 grandchildren and 57 great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Michael Graikowski, presently residing at the Clark County Hospital and Home, observed their 72nd Wedding Anniversary on January 19, 1974. Mike Graikowski, 92, came from Poland with his family at the age of 3 and lived in Illinois for a short time, and then came to Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. John S. Grajkowski celebrated their Golden Jubilee on Sunday, June 29, 1958, with a High Mass at 8:00 o’clock at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, where they were married 50 years ago.  They were preceded into the church by two little grandchildren, Kathleen and Dale Grajkowski dresses in gold.  Mr. and Mrs. Grajkowski were blessed with six children, five sons living and one daughter who was killed in the tornado in 1924, and twenty-seven grandchildren.

A reception, dinner and supper were held at the St. Hedwig’s Catholic School Hall.  In the evening a dance was held at the Quonset Ballroom for a large crowd of relatives and friends from Thorp and elsewhere.

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Grambsch held a Silver Wedding Anniversary Open House in honor of their parents, who were married June 1, 1940, Sunday, June 6, at their home for relatives, friends and neighbors.  Guests were from Yuba, Withee, Richland Center, Marshfield, Spencer, Loyal, Eau Claire and Henry, Illinois.

Many gifts were received and a wedding cake, decorated in silver, centered the table.

The children entertained the immediate family with a dinner at the Downtowner in Marshfield Saturday evening.  Those present were the honored couple, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Grambsch, Bob and Mary, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Grambsch, Mr. and Mrs. William Essex, Miss Ruby Grambsch and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Clintsman and Davy.  The highlight of the anniversary was a telephone conversation with their daughter Carmella from Korea extending greetings and Best Wishes.

FERDINAND GRAPS RIDE FROM CHURCH IN BUGGY

Bride Wears Black Velvet - Golden Wedding Cake of Fifty pounds - Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Grap celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on October 12, at their home in Globe.

A special service was held for them by Rev. Adolph Schumann, at the Lutheran Church at Globe where they were married 50 years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Grap were the first couple married in the present church.

Mrs. Grap was dressed for the occasion in a black Velvet dress with lace and gold trimmed presented to her by her son, Paul. She wore a white orchid corsage, presented to her by her oldest granddaughter, Beverly Grap of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

After the services at the church Mr. and Mrs. Grap were transported to their home in a top buggy decorated with crepe paper streamers and drawn by a team of horses.

The tables were decorated suitably for the occasion. The bride and broom’s table was centered by a huge wedding cake, topped with a pair of golden slippers. This cake weighing 50 pounds was presented to them by their oldest son, Walter Grap of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The second table was centered by a very attractive old time carriage.

The children of Frederick Grap gave their grandparents a bouquet of yellow chrysanthemums.

Present for the occasion were their children, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Grap and children, Beverly, Walter and Jennine; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Grap and Mr. Carl Grap, all of Milwaukee; Marvin Grap of Rockford, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Grap and children, Ronald, June, Frederick, Jo Ann, Lewis and Susan on the home farm.

Three of the attendants for the original wedding were also present: Mrs. Ole Lowe, Mrs. Henry Klauer and Frank Hemp. The fourth, Theodore Kalsow, is deceased.

Other guests from out of town included Mr. and Mrs. August Kalsow, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rummler, Mr. and Mrs. George Kalsow and Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Raabe, all of Watertown.

The couple received many lovely gifts and a large sum of money.

Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Grap, Weston’s oldest pioneer family, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last weekend in their log cabin in which they started housekeeping, one mile south of Globe corners.

John Ferdinand Grap was born in Germany August 6, 1873, to Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Grap and came to America when he was nine years of age, locating in the Town of Weston with his parents.  He had attended school in Germany and completed his education at the school now known as Fairview.

The Grap family arrived in Clark County in June, 1882, and rented a farm, known as the Gall farm, which was located one-half mile east of Globe. They remained there the first fall and winter.  In the spring of 1883 they purchased a 40-acre tract south of Globe and erected a log cabin, which stands to this day, siding having been added in recent years.

On October 12, 1899, John Ferdinand Grap was married to Martha Kalsow, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Kalsow, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Globe, with the Rev. F. W. A. Thrun, pastor, officiating.  Attending the couple were Frank Hemp, Mrs. Ole Lowe, Miss Annie Kalsow (Mrs. Henry Klauer), and Peter Kalsow.

The bride was born and raised one-half mile west of Globe store, on the farm now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Lebrecht Kalsow. She attended Fairview School. After her marriage she moved only a little over a mile to the farm where she has spent the last 60 years.

In 1901, the Graps built a new and larger house west of the log cabin, nearer the highway, and remained there while his parents occupied the log cabin. Through the years, the 40-acre farm grew in size. An 80-acre tract, a 50 and two 40’s were added.  Today, their son Frederick now works a farm of 250 acres.

Mr. and Mrs. Grap have five children, 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Their oldest son, Walter, now of Milwaukee, has a wife and three children, Beverly, Walter, and Jeanine.  Their second son, Paul, is married and lives with his wife in Milwaukee.  Frederick, the third son, lives on the home farm.  They have six children: Ronnie, June, Frederick, Jr., Joan, Lewis and Susan.  Their son, Carl, lives in Milwaukee with his wife and two children, Bonnie and Billy.  The youngest son, Marvin, is married and lives with his wife in Rockford, Ill.

"We have never experienced any fires, or serious tornadoes," said Mrs. Grap, "with the exception of wind blowing the roof off the barn many years ago."  But Mr. Grap experienced several very serious falls and accidents, starting when he was a boy of 12.  An ax slipped while he was cutting tag alders and he almost severed the big toe from his right foot."

When 14, while helping cut a crooked oak tree, Ferdinand was caught by a hanging tree which hit another tree and swung back, striking him on the forehead and knocking him unconscious.  His father picked him up for dead and as he was carrying Ferdinand to the house he slipped on the ice.  In the fall the youth regained consciousness and was able to run the rest of the way to the house.  His right collarbone was injured and protruded in front. A large scar on the left forehead still tells the story of this accident.

A few months later, while climbing in the milkhouse to reach a faucet for a beer keg, the youth fell again and hit the protruding collarbone and it was driven back in place without a doctor being called for assistance in any of the early injuries.

Although he had taken several spills, he was destined for several more.  While assisting with building the roof on the old log barn, Ferdinand slipped and fell to the driveway below, falling on his right hand, which as he recollects was "twisted inside out."

"Mother pulled on it," Ferdinand related, "and the hand turned back in place."

(Oh, we are missing some lines here)….severely that he spent many weeks in bed.  In later years, while assisting with a barn-raising on the Ernest Hemp farm west of Hoppa’s tavern, the scaffolding broke, the framework on the new barn broke in the center, injuring a half dozen men, including Mr. Grap.  This time a doctor was summoned from Neillsville.

Dr. J. H. Frank arrived on the scene and was asked to administer to Mr. Grap first, as he had been severely injured on head and neck.  Dr. Frank replied, "You just can’t kill that fellow, He’s too tough."

Mr. Grap’s last fall was taken at 81 years of age, when he slipped in the granary on fresh thrashings and fell on his head, seriously injuring the vertebrae of his neck.  Since this fall, he has found it difficult to move his head to either side. Two years ago he suffered a stroke which left him incapacitated.  He spends most of his time now in a chair or on a couch.

Raised in the out-of-doors, a lover of nature, of fishing and hunting, Mr. Grap now finds it difficult to rest and said, "I would be happy if I could just get down into the woods for a half hour."

Mr. Grap served several years as supervisor of the Town of Weston, served Immanuel Lutheran Church of Globe as treasurer for 15 years, and he and his wife have… (More of the story is missed here, and the whole list of family and friends who attended the big celebration of this couple’s 60th Anniversary).

I was a busy time at the Globe area home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Grap, Jr., on the September 26-27 weekend. The couple was honored at a silver wedding anniversary gathering, which included the serving of 400 friends and relatives at the Grap home on Saturday afternoon, followed by a dance at Loyal’s American Legion Hall. There were more guests the following day at the Grap home.

An open house was held on Saturday afternoon. Among those attending were the original attendants in the wedding party: Ronald Grap of Chino, Ca., Carlotta Romsos of Eden Prairie, Mn., Donald Kalsow of Neillsville, June Huettenrauch of Milwaukee, Donald and Susan Sladek of Granton and JoAnn Ruzic of Neillsville. Unable to attend was Jerry Sladek of Kenosha.

Children of the Graps, presented their parents with a five-piece silver tea set. Mrs. Grap baked a three-tier cake, trimmed in the wedding colors of light and dark orchid.

In other activities, a mock wedding was held. Rick Thoma served a minister; Louis Hagedorn, Jr., and Florence Drescher, bride and groom; Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Feucht, attendants; and Mike and Buddy Feucht, the children. The stork was portrayed by Keith Billings, who arrived with Sherri Donahue, Terri Lewandowski and Kerri and Perry Grap. They were joined by Mary Mayer, who rolled out the red carpet; Monte Hoppa, who caught the bouquet; and Harold Thoma, who brandished the shotgun.

Several garters were sold.

Guests for the dance and open house came from Chino, Ca.; Spring, Tex.; East Point, Ga.; Knoxville, Tenn.; Valparaiso, In.; Rockford, Berwyn, Lyons and Countryside in Illinois; Rochester and Minneapolis, Minn.; and the Wisconsin communities of Milwaukee, Jackson, Random Lake, Oneida, Adell, Greenwood, Granton, Loyal, Marshfield, Willard, Auburndale, La Crosse, Chippewa Falls, Thorp, Spencer, Humbird, Kenosha and Neillsville.

Mr. and Mrs. John Ferdinand Grap observed their 63rd wedding anniversary Friday at the home in which they have lived for many years.

A truly pioneer couple, Mr. an Mrs. Grap lived for a number of years in a log cabin on a 40-acre tract and experienced the joys and hardships of caring for farm, home and family.  The farm, now operated by their son, Frederick, has grown to 250 acres.

Mr. Grap was born in Germany and came to America when he was nine years of age.  His wife, the former Martha Kalsow, was born and raised in the Town of Weston, and has spent all of her life in a radius of one and one-half miles in that township.

Relatives, neighbors, and other friends gathered through the day and evening Friday to wish Mr. and Mrs. Grap a happy anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Gray, Chili, were feted at a 35th wedding anniversary celebration after church services at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford, March 25. Pastor Lurke gave a special prayer in honor of the couple.

The family of Mr. and Mrs. George Greaser were present Sunday to celebrate the golden anniversary of their wedding, which took place Nov. 17, 1903. Twenty-six places were laid for the 1:00 o’clock dinner served at the home.
 

Attending were all of the children and grand children. They were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer (Fern) Vandehey, of Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Greaser and Ronald, West Allis; Mr. and Mrs. George Greaser and Beverly, of Dorchester; Mr. and Mrs. Edward (Mary) Pacholke, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Ross Greaser, Racine; and Mr. and Mrs. Myron Greaser and Dawn, Abbotsford.
 

A sister of Mrs. Greaser, Mrs. E. R. Michealis, Etna, Pa., and the five sisters of Mr. Greaser, Mrs. Frank W. Shultz, Bellview, Pa.; Mrs. G. E. King, Vinton, Ia.; Mrs. Ella Shomier and Mrs. Ruth Brown, Rockwell City, Ia.; and Mrs. Anna Shomier and son, Robert, Boscobel; and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Neve, daughter of Mrs. King, Vinton, La., also were here for the occasion.
 

On Tuesday, neighbors and friends called and in the evening, gave them an old fashioned shivaree.
 

For the centerpiece at the Sunday’s festivities, there was a decorated open book cake and for Tuesday there was a double ring wedding cake. Bouquets of yellow roses and yellow chrysanthemum plants decorated the home.
 

Mr. and Mrs. Greaser received many beautiful gifts to mark this anniversary.
 

Mrs. Greaser, the former Edna Violet McKean, was born Sept. 27, 1881, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brisbane McKean, in Pittsburgh, Pa. She had five brothers and two sisters.
 

Mr. Greaser, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Greaser, was born Jan. 15, 1881, in Clover Creek, Blair county, Pa., one of a family of five girls and three boys. They were married in the parsonage of the Rev. Ulyses S. Greves, Nov. 17, 1903, in Pittsburgh.
 

At the time of their marriage, Mr. Greaser was a fireman on the Pennsylvania railroad and they made their home in Pittsburgh until the fall of 1905, when he was transferred to Swissvale, where they resided a year. In 1907, he was promoted to engineer and four years later he quit railroading and operated a farm, which was part of the Greaser estate in Iowa, until 1920, when they came to Abbotsford. He bought the farm, which at present is owned by Carl Kreklau. Some years later, he moved to the Paustenbach farm, which is now the Oscar Mayer place. Eleven years ago, they moved to the village and Mr. Greaser worked for Marathon-Clark Cooperative for five years. For the past four years, he has been employed as fireman at the Streckert Manufacturing plant.
 

The Greasers have four sons and two daughters, living. One daughter, Thelma, born in 1904, died in 1910. There are three grand children.
 

Mrs. Greaser has one sister and Mr. Greaser has five sisters, all of whom were here for the celebration. His one brother, in California, was unable to be here.
 

The birthday anniversary of Mrs. Bertha Shultz occurred Monday and a celebration was also held in her honor, Mrs. Shultz, a sister of Mr. Greaser, hadn’t seen him in 30 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Greeler, town of York, who were married 40 years ago on October 4, celebrated the occasion on Sunday, October 8, at their farm home, which has been their home since their marriage.

The dining room was decorated with autumn foliage and red streamers, the table being centered with a large wedding cake. More than 100 guests were present, coming from Neillsville, Granton, Loyal, Colby, Unity, Spencer and Marion.

At 4 o’clock, the Rev. William A. Baumann gave a fine sermon. The grandchildren, Erland, Delores, Lucille and Janice Greeler and a nephew, Billy Naedler, sang two songs, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Erwin Greeler. Erich Sievert accompanied the entire group for singing.

Charles Greeler and Minnie Schwantes were married on October 4, 1904, at Spencer, the Rev. A. F. Imm of Spencer officiating.

Mrs. Sam Pockat, Marion, Wis., who was maid of honor at their wedding forty years ago, was present for this occasion. Other guests of the day, who were also present at the wedding in 1904, are Mr. and Mrs. William Schwantes of Colby and Mrs. **Rest cut off.**

Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Greeler observed their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, December 12, at their farm home on Route 4.  Although the actual wedding day occurred on October 4, the observance of their anniversary was postponed until their grandson, Erland Greeler, returned from overseas duty in Korea.
 

A special service of Thanksgiving was held in the evening by the Rev. Alfred Schewe.  A song, "Now Thank We All Our God" was sung by the couple’s four grandchildren - Erland, Delores, Lucille and Janice Greeler.  Lucille also sang "The Lord’s Prayer."
 

One of the couple’s original attendants, Mrs. Sam Pockat of Marion, Wis., was present.
 

Mr. and Mrs. Greeler were married at Spencer on October 4, 1904.  They have one son, Erwin, who resides on the home farm.
 

A large wedding cake, presented to Mr. and Mrs. Greeler, served as a centerpiece at the 5 o’clock dinner served to the 90 guests.
 

Many gifts and money were received by the honored couple.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Greeler were honored at a surprised party Christmas day at their home at Neillsville, Wis., given in honor of their fortieth wedding anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Greeler were married Dec. 25, 1894, as Harvard, Ill., and spent the first seven years of their married life at that place. In 1901 they moved on a farm six and one-half miles northeast of Neillsville, where they lived until the last eight years, which they have spent in Neillsville, Wis.

The following guests enjoyed a bounteous goose dinner and supper, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Greeler and family, Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Greeler and Erland, Chas. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Greeler, Neillsville, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday at the farm home of their son, Edward Greeler. The couple will have been married 50 years on Christmas Day, but because of winter weather conditions, the celebration was held early. The Rev. William A. Baumann officiated at the service at 4 o’clock. A dinner was served at 5 o’clock. The four children were all present. A Greenwood couple, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gregorich, celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Sunday, August 6. Highlighting the celebration was a 10 o’clock mass said at St. Mary’s Catholic Church by the Rev. Leander Koopman. A special blessing and renewal of marriage vows was performed following the mass. The Zepaltas sisters sang.

This was followed by a picnic at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gregorich, where 100 relatives gathered for the afternoon, which included dinner, visiting and card playing. A lunch was served later in the day. In the evening friends and relatives enjoyed dancing. There was a mock wedding and a lunch was served after the dance.

Joe Gregorich and the former Julia Tomac were married at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard August 3, 1932, by the Rev. John Novak. Their attendants were Frank Jaris of Chino, California, and Mrs. Ed (Mary Tomac) Maass of Withee. They farmed in the Greenwood area until 1959. Later they moved back to Greenwood.

A special guest was Mrs. Mary Gregorich of Willard, mother of the celebrant.

Joe and Julia Gregorich, 200 East Division St., Greenwood, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, August 8. The day began with a morning mass, which was followed by an open house and a dance.

The mass included music by the adult choir. The dinner for 60, served at the Greenwood American Legion Hall, included potica and a large, waterfall cake. The open house was held at St. Mary’ hall and the dance was at the Legion Hall.

Joe Gregorich and Julia Tomac were married on August 3, 1932, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard by the Rev. John Novak. (Attending the anniversary gathering were Mary Mass of Withee and Frank Jeras of California, both original attendants for the couple.)

Joe Gregorich was born August 22, 1909, in Dubuque Iowa, to John and Mary Gregorich. He received his education in Iowa schools. Julie was born January 20, 1910, in Yugoslavia to Peter and Katrina Tomac. She received her education in the Hemlock School.

The couple lived on a farm three miles north of Greenwood and then moved to a larger farm three miles south of Greenwood in 1951. In 1957, they move to Chicago and resided there for a couple of years. They are now retired.

Joe, a member of the Knights of Columbus, enjoys fishing and making fishing rods. Julia, a member of St. Ann’s Society, enjoys crocheting and gardening. Both are member of St. Mary’s Parish in Greenwood.

The couple has five sons, Joe and Blairsden, California, Robert of Spencer, Ray of Big Timber, Montana, Laverne of Willard and Bill of Casper, Wyoming; a daughter, Nancy Scheuerman, Greenwood; 34 grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. One grandchild is deceased.

A mass of Thanksgiving was held at 8 p.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church and attended by Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gregorich in observance of their 25th wedding anniversary. The Rev. Michael Mertens officiated.

Dorothy Petkovsek and Leo Gregorich were married May 17, 1947, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard with the Rev. Bernard Amorozic officiating. They were attended by Mrs. Albert (Christin Gregorich) Bukovec, sister of the groom, and William Petkovsek, brother of the bride. They settled on the home farm, 2 ½ miles northwest of Willard where they are still engaged in dairy farming.

They have four children, George, who is employed at the North Hendren Cooperative Dairy Company, Roger, who attends Stevens Point State University, and Roy and Fred, at home. They also have two grandchildren, Michelle and Aaron Gregorich.\

They held an anniversary party for about 100 guests Saturday night at the North Mound tavern.

Mr. and Mrs. Ted Gregory celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary last Sunday. Following an anniversary mass at St. Anthony’s they were entertained at dinner at the home of their daughter and son in law, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Froeba.

Golden Wedding celebration for Mr. and Mrs. Alex Grendzinski Sr. was given by their children.

Mr. and Mrs. Alex Grendzinski Sr. celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, September 15, 1972.

Alex Grendzinski and Jennie Losiewicz were married September 5, 1922 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Lublin (Taylor Co.), Wisconsin, with Reverend John B. Balcer officiating.

A 4:00 o’clock mass was said a St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church on Saturday, September 16, 1972.

Reception was held and dinner served in the evening for relatives at the Thorpedo. Tables were decorated in fall colors of yellow, gold and bronze mums, and marigolds matching corsages and boutonnieres worn by the family.

Original wedding attendants present were: Mrs. Frances Naurocki, Stanley, Wisconsin; Mrs. Wand Fortek, thorp; and Mr. Walter Grajek, Lublin, Wisconsin.

Present were: their one daughter, Mrs. Edwin (Josephine) Bauer of Wausau, and their five sons, Casimer of Chicago, Leon and Bernard of Wausau, Alex Jr. of Thorp, and Thomas of Burnsville, Minnesota. Fourteen of the sixteen grandchildren were also present.

Mr. and Mrs. Alex Grendzinski are living in retirement and 408 W. Stanley Street for the past seven years. Previously they farmed 43 years on the homestead farm at route 2, Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.).

Out of town guests attending were from Kansas City, Missouri, Chicago, Illinois, Burnsville, Minnesota, Boyd, Lublin, Stanley, Wausau and Withee, Wisconsin.

Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Griffith, 229 West New York Avenue, Oshkosh, former residents of Neillsville, celebrated their golden wedding last week.

A family dinner was held at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Watters, Menasha, and open house was held at their home in Oshkosh from 2 to 5 and from 7 to 9 on the 27th.

Mr. and Mrs. Griffith were married Dec. 24, 1891, at the home of her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Josiah Roberts at Eldorado. Mrs. Griffith’s maiden name was Harriet Williams. She was born to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Williams, natives of Freedom, N. Y., who later settled at Phophetstown, Ill. She came to Wisconsin as a young woman. Mr. Griffith was born at Eldorado, the son of John B. and Mrs. Griffith.

The couple spent their honeymoon at Racine, Wis., where they heard and met Ignaatz Paderewski, who was presenting a concert there. They are lovers of good music, having taken part in the choir work of the Welsh Church for many years. They now are members of the First Fundamental Church, Oshkosh.

Mr. Griffith has retired from a painting and decorating business, in which he is being succeeded by his son, Kendrick. Both Mr. and Mrs. Griffith are in good health.

They are the parents of nine children, namely: Mrs. Lloyd Watters, Menasha; Alice, Mrs. J. L. Richardson, Eau Claire; Mrs. Laura Brown, Neillsville; Lois, Mrs. S. T. Geeslin, Portage; John Griffith, Hollingswood, N. J.; Sylvia, Mrs. A. C. Borgstrom, Sioux City, Ia. All of the children except John, Frederick and Mrs. Borgstorm were present for the celebration. There are fifteen grandchildren.

William Griffith of Melville, N. D., a brother of E. J. Griffith, who was present at the original wedding, was a guest at the anniversary celebration; also a niece of Mrs. Griffith, Miss Nellie E. Williams of Franklin, N. Y., came west for the occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. John Grimes, former residents of Colby now residing in Milwaukee, held open house in the Methodist church parlors last week Wednesday in observance of their golden wedding anniversary. They were married on August 19, 1897, and for many years Mr. Grimes operated a general store in Colby before moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Edward and Loretta Grobe, of Rapid City, MI, and Englewood, FL, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 2 and 3 at Shanty Creek Lodge in Bellaire, MI. They were married at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton Aug. 1, 1964. Edward graduated from Marshfield high School and UW-Stevens Point. He retired in 1998 as the director of development for Ingham County Michigan. Loretta graduated from Granton High School and UW-Stout and holds a Ph-D from Michigan State University. She served as a higher education consultant and retired from the State of Michigan Department of Education in 1997. Ed and Loretta have two sons, Kevin (Andrea) of Ohio and Justin (Ph-D) (Connie, Ph-D) of Iowa. They have four grandchildren, Madeline, Garett, Haley and Oliver.

Loretta’s mother, Clara Lewis, of Sunset Gardens Assisted living in Neillsville was able to attend and enjoy the festivities along with extended family and friends. Clara’s daughter, Lois, and her husband, Tom O’Donnell, of California flew into Mosinee airport, rented a car and picked up Clara, and the three drove through Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to Loretta and Edward’s home to enjoy the festivities. All of Clara’s grandchildren were at the Golden Wedding celebration.

A 4:00 p.m. dinner, open house, buffet supper and dance marked the occasion Sunday of the Golden Wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Guk of Granton.

The Granton Community house was the scene of festivities. Fifty relatives were guests at the dinner, for which tables were decorated with gold streamers and cut flowers. A tiered wedding cake centered the decorations of the main table.

From 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. open house was held, and some 300 guests were served at a buffet supper. Music for dancing was supplied by Edward Engstrom of Chicago, a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Guk.

The Rev. Edgar Milleville of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Nasonville spoke. Gifts and good wishes for the couple piled up and a purse of money was presented.

Mr. Guk was born in Germany October 4, 1878, and came to the United States with his parents at the age of four. His parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Reinhold Guk, settled on a farm in the town of Lynn, where Mr. Guk lived until three years ago, for at the time of their marriage Charles Guk and his wife took over the parental homestead.

Mrs. Guk was born in Calumet County August 13, 1880, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Prust. The Guks were married on July 31, 1898. Three years ago they moved to the village of Granton.

The Guks had six daughters, and one son, Edward, who died in 1929. The daughters, all of whom were able to be present for the anniversary celebration, are: Mrs. Glen (Adeline) Nourse of Milwaukee; Mrs. Erland (Elsi) Engstrom of Chicago, Mrs. George (Jean) Engstrom of Chicago, Mrs. Ralph (Amanda) Johnson of Capron, Ill., Mrs. Roy (Gertrude) Gregory of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Victor (Viola) Schlinkert of Globe. There are 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Out of town guests included Miss Eliza Prust and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Neinas of Chili; Mr. and Mrs. John Prust of Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. Evert Johnson of Capron, Ill.; William Neinas, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Neinas and son of Webster; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Schlinkert of Globe; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Feih, and Mathilda Bealer, all of Wisconsin Rapids.

A commemorative Mass was celebrated in honor of the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Gulcynski, 205 Lawrence Street, Thorp (Clark Co.), Wisconsin, on Sunday, October 15, 1972 at 11:00 o’clock at St. Hedwig’s Church. Grandsons, Mike and Jim Gulcynski were the Mass attendants. Offertory gifts were presented by six more grandchildren: Bill Ustruck, Brian Gulcynski, Dough Gulcynski, Dan Gulcynski, Terri Ustruck and Susan Janette. The Jubilee Couple received a special blessing by the celebrant, Rev. John Puerner.

Vincent Gulcynski and Frances Sliwka were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Czestochowa Catholic Church at Junction (Clark Co., Wis.) on Tuesday, October 10, 1922. Following the Mass, a dinner was served at St. Hedwig’s Hall. Mrs. Wanda Gulcynski was hostess and also made the beautiful Anniversary cake for the reception.

Mr. and Mrs. John H. Gummerson, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Saturday, June 15th, 1968 with a reception and buffet luncheon served in their honor from 2 to 5 p.m. at the American Legion Hall. A tiered wedding cake plus many floral bouquets decorated the tables for this gala occasion.

The honored couple wore a corsage and boutonniere, present to them by their family, as they received more than 150 guests throughout the afternoon that came from Milwaukee, Abbotsford, Marinette, Thorp, Gilman, Wausau, Merrill, Chippewa Falls, Cornell, Stetsonville and Wheeling, Ill.

John H. Gummerson was born at Amberg, Wisconsin and moved with his family to Ishpeming, Michigan, where he learned the blacksmith trade. His parents moved to Wisconsin, settling southwest of Withee, and John continued his blacksmith trade in Chippewa Falls. While in Chippewa Falls he entered the service and served overseas in France during World War I.

Julia Gummerson, nee Mauer, was a native of Chippewa Falls, where she was educated and later employed in the City's famed woolen mills.

On June 15, 1918 at Camp Grant, Illinois, John Gummerson and Julia Mauer were united in marriage. After World War I they made their home in Chippewa Falls until 1923, when they moved to Owen. Her Mr. Gummerson pursued his blacksmith trade, in addition to opening the Gummerson Implement Company, business he operated until his retirement in 1960. They were blessed with three sons, Jack (deceased), Charles, Wheeling, Ill., and Jim of Owen, and now find great enjoyment with their families and eight grandchildren.

During the past years the couple has spent much of their time at their summer home at Butternut, where they enjoy receiving and entertaining friends and relatives, in addition to pursuing their hobbies. Mrs. Gummerson enjoys playing bridge and members of her bridge club look forward to their annual visitation to the cottage. Mr. Gummerson is an avid fisherman, and especially likes musky fishing, and has many trophy catches to attest to his enviable successes.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gumz observed their 40th wedding anniversary Friday night at the Holton Town Hall. Attendants At the original weeding who were present included: Mr. and Mrs. Ed (Clara) Dobberton, Phoenix, Arizona, sister of Mrs. Gumz; Mrs. Ella Laessig, Stratford, his sister; Martha Stargardt, Wausau; and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Ruprich, Dorchester, friends of the couple.

Cards were played for entertainment, and Lawrence Hopfensberger provided concertina music for dancing. Lunch and refreshments were served.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Gust celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday, May 28. Guests from Lomira, Fond du Lac, Spencer, Colby, Greenwood, Dorchester, and Abbotsford attended.

Mr. and Mrs. Gust were married at St. John’s Lutheran church in Lomira on May 28, 1925, by the late Rev. Rudolph Uietz.

Casey and Josephine Grucelski celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday, June 22, 1975. Father John Puerner was the celebrant at the 11:00 Mass at St. Hedwig’s Chapel. Roger Truckey was the organist.

After church services, their children hosted open house. Buffet lunch was served to friends and neighbors attending.

It also was the occasion of a family reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gutwasser celebrated their Golden Wedding last Sunday, Feb. 28th, 1926. Even the weatherman was in their favor and gave them a beautiful day, and as all their children and their grandchildren, excepting one grandson, Cecil Hahn, were with them, the day was a joyous one indeed.

A bounteous dinner was served at noon, Mrs. Anna and Jane Garbisch ably assiting in serving the assembled guests. The table was decorated in a manner fitting the occasion, gold bowls with beautiful jonquils in, which glistened and sparkled in the sunlight.

The bride was beautifully attired in midnight blue flat crepe with gold lace trimming and the groom in an elegant tailor made suit was almost as young and gay as that day 50 years ago when they started life's journey together.

After dinner, Rev. V. M. Keiper, their pastor, read the marriage ceremony and Mr. and Mrs. Gutwasser renewed the vows before the assembled loved ones. And probably they reviewed together the 50 years gone by more than 42 of them having been spent in Dorchester, Clark County, Wis., for it was in the summer of 1883 when they came here.

There has been much happiness and some sorrow, joy in watching their children grow to womanhood and manhood and taking a useful place in the world, and sorrow when they laid away the dear little ones they loved so, but as they grow older they can see more of life and understand better and say "All is well", but you mustn't thing from this that Mr. and Mrs. Gutwasser are old. Indeed not, Mr. Gutwasser is 71 and Mrs. Gutwasser is 72 years young, which is not old. Mr. Gutwasser is not as spry as he used to be, owing to the fact that his eyesight is failing, but Mrs. Gutwasser makes you thing of a girl when you see her come tripping down the street.

For a good many years Mr. Gutwasser was one of our leading hardware merchants so of course they are well known as well as well liked in Dorchester country.

As we have already said, the children were all there, Miss Lydia, the youngest daughter who stays at home, Arthur Gutwasser, wife, Velma and Leonard of Chippewa Falls, Amanda, Mrs. John Shefsick, her husband and Charles of the town of Holton, and Anna, Mrs. Dr. Hahn, Miss Tuznelda and Waldemar of Eau Claire. Cecil Hahn was the only absentee as he is attending school at Minneapolis getting ready to enter the Naval Academy at Annapolis in June. But he sent a telegram of congratulations to his grandparents.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gutwasser and children, and Waldemar Hahn left here Monday for their home so the children could get to school, but Mrs. Hahn and Miss Tuznelda stayed until the last of the week.

All of the Dorchester friends join with us in congratulating Mr. and Mrs. Gutwasser.

Gwiazda, Mr./Mrs. Nick (60th - SEP 1960)

Mr. and Mrs. Nick Gwiazda, a long time Clark County couple, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Saturday, Aug. 6, with members of their family and with several friends and neighbors of Clark County attending.

They were married in Austria in September 1906, and came to America in 1912, locating in Clark County, north of Thorp. Nick Gwiazda was born in Austria and his wife in the Ukraine. They purchased a farm north of Thorp, which they operated for many years. After retiring from their farm, they moved from Clark County to Lublin.

The Gwiazda's are the parents of eight children, five daughters and three sons. They are Mrs. Kay Parker, Mrs. Estelle Berg, and Mrs. Mary Przybylski, all of Chicago; Walter and Mike, both of Lublin; John of California; and Ann Sawyer and Sophie Gwiazda, deceased.

All living sons and daughters attended the 60th anniversary party Saturday at the Gwiazda home. The Rev. Victor Borowsky, pastor of St. Walter's Ukrainian Church of Neillsville, delivered Ukrainian prayer. His mother, Mrs. Jacob Borowsky, also attended from Neillsville.
