Last Saturday that most excellent couple, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Ebbe, celebrated their golden wedding and were most agreeably surprised by a number of their old friends from Nasonville, who came over and spent the day and evening with them. Mr. and Mrs. Ebbe were made the recipients of many fine and appropriate gifts which will serve to keep the memory of the day fresh in their minds for many years. Chris Ebbe and Mary Sorrenson were united in marriage in Denmark on March 1st, 1863. During the years from 1859 to 1862, Mr. Ebbe served as one of the personal guard of the king of Denmark, Frederick VII, and it might be added that he was the smallest of the six guards, and as his stature is well known to all, it may be imagined that the guard was a pretty substantial one. Mr. and Mrs. Ebbe came to this country shortly after their marriage and located on a farm in Jefferson county, where they stayed a little over two years. They then came to Wood county and located in the heart of the forest on the west branch of O’Neill creek. In 1881 Mr. Ebbe made a trip back to Denmark and when he returned he sold his Wood county farm to his brother, Louis Ebbe, and he and his good wife then located on a farm which was sold four years later to Cash Eide and which farm is now a part of the Eide farm near Granton. Mr. and Mrs. Ebbe then entered the employ of the county, he as superintendent of the county poor farm, which position he held for 15 years. They came to Neillsville in Nov., 1903, and soon after went to Oregon, where they made their home for a little over seven years and then returned to this city where they expect to continue their days in peace and happiness. They are a most estimable and pleasant couple and their many friends hope that their days on this earth will be many and as happy and peaceful as those which have gone before. Mr. and Mrs. Ebbe are the parents of four children, Mary Brooks of California, John Ebbe of Oregon, Geo. Ebbe of this city and an adopted son, Solon Davis, who lives near Granton. An especially pleasing feature of the wedding day was the fine wedding cake which was send by Mrs. Brooks from California.

A surprise party was held for Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ebeling at their home Sunday in honor of their 45th wedding anniversary. About 30 relatives from Kiel, Sheboygan, Stevens Point, Wausau, Medford and Colby, Wis. attended.

Dorchester – Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ecke observed their golden wedding anniversary with open house on Sunday, May 25 at their home. About 100 friends and relatives called to congratulate the couple.
The Rev. Fred Kollath gave a talk and the couple renewed their marriage vows, after which a cafeteria lunch was served to all present. A wedding cake in the form of a cross with miniature church and miniature dolls decorated the table.
Mrs. Ecke wore a blue and grey print dress with a corsage of gold and pink roses.

The couple were married at Wisconsin Reformed Church, Curtiss, on May 28, 1908, with the Rev. Lahr officiating.
Mr. Ecke was born at Hilbert, on June 17, 1886, the son of Mr. and Mrs. August Ecke. He received his education at rural schools there. Mrs. Ecke, the former Clara Louise Janning, was born Sept. 27, 1885, at Newton. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Janning and received her education at schools in Newton.
After their marriage, they lived on a farm near Colby until 1915; then they moved to Dodgeville for four years; then moved back to a farm near Curtiss where they lived for 17 years. In 1941 they moved to Marshfield for 13 years, where Mr. Ecke was employed at Roddis Plywood Corp. Since August 1952, they have lived in their present home in retirement.
Mr. Ecke works at paperhanging and painting as a part time job and hobby. The couple are both in good health. They are members of Peace Church.

(Note – this must have been more than their 25th anniversary, as they have both married grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The Trinity Lutheran Cemetery says Arthur Sr. and Anna Alvina were married in October 1909, which seems to make it like their 61st anniversary)

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Edblom Sr. observed their 25th wedding anniversary Sunday at Unity Trinity Lutheran Church.
The festivities began with all the children attending church services with their parents.
This was followed by a dinner in the church parlors.

Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Alexander of Owen, Mr. and Mrs. George Egnoski and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Felker of Oshkosh, Mrs. Calvin Bombard of Oregon, Wisconsin, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mellenthin of Spencer, who are the couple children, and their families.
Married grandchildren attending were Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Egnoski and family, Oshkosh, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Stuttgen and family of Thorp, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Meyer and family of Abbotsford, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Lindekugel and family of Loyal, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Klessig and family and Mrs. Allen Duvall and family of Colby, and Miss Nancy Mellenthin and her fiancé, Ronald Dietsche, of Spencer.

Over 100 friends and relatives helped Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Eddy celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary at the Hatfield Sportsmen Club Sunday. A lunch was served.
Margaret Clarke and Edgar Eddy were married August 20, 1940, in Sparta. They farmed in the Cashton and Leon area before moving to Neillsville, where they now reside.
The couple’s children are: Mrs. Glen (Diane) Dyer, St. Charles, Ill.; Gorden, David of Kenosha; Harold of St. Charles; Dennis, Buddy, Shirley and Kim, of Neillsville.

The Town of York, in which Mr. and Mrs. William H. Edens celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, last Sunday, was a far different community from the York in which they settled 40 years ago, come May 10.
Woodlands have been transformed into pastures and fields by sweat of the brow and bite of the axe. The industry of the countryside has changed in the 40 years that passed, from that of lumbering to farming.
Yet, somehow, the spirit of hardy early settlers of Clark County, the spirit, which was typified by pioneer Americans, was not lost on the anniversary celebration.
While scores of friends and neighbors joined the children and grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Edens for the occasion, the old couple looked back on their early trials in a new country. And they were able to smile on their recollections.
Nearly all of York was woodland when the Edens settled there with their children, in 1900. They moved from Plymouth, where Mr. Edens had been a shipping clerk. With typical pioneering spirit, they had traded their Plymouth home for three, almost virgin, York 40s. And there was a peculiar thing about the trade, as Mr. Edens recalled it:
The land came to a war veteran, a Mr. Corbett, who had a cork leg and taught Mr. Eden’s Sunday school class. He acquired the land through a gambling debt.
When Edens arrived, they found their 40 acres in woods, with the exception of an area of about three acres, which had been stumped. That spring Mr. Edens had furrows plowed between the stumps, and planted corn. The yield was 79 bushels.
Working, side by side, Mr. and Mrs. Edens started clearing their land. And whenever it came to using a two-handled saw, Mrs. Edens was there, doing her share of the pulling and pushing.
"I don’t recall which end she used," Mr. Edens remarked; "but it doesn’t make much difference. One end pulled as hard as the other."
The children, too, came in for their share of labor in building up the farm and the home. Like all children of early Clark County families, they learned to work and they worked hard.
At that time York Center consisted of a post office operated in connection with a country store, by A. Benedict. The post office-store was located on the site of the present Abbie Turner service station. Besides the post office, the Edens had six nearby neighbors. They were: Mrs. Stella Mortimer, whose place her son, George now works; Clyde Smith on the farm now owned by Mrs. Julius Drescher; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dean, who later went to Oregon; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Zwich, now the Emil Korth farm; Mr. and Mrs. Julius Voight, who lived on the place now operated by their son Hank; and Mr. and Mrs. Al Garvin, who lived where Elmer Garbisch now resides.
The golden anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Edens was held at the home of a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin VandeBerg, about a mile from the Edens’ home. In this manner, it was possible for the observance to come as a complete surprise for the couple.
The anniversary date is January 7; but the earlier observance was held so that all the children and grandchildren could be present, five children and 13 grandchildren. And throughout the day and evening the VandeBerg home was filled with long-time friends and neighbors who gathered to congratulate the couple on their 50 years of married harmony, and to wish them another 50 years of happiness together.
Mr. and Mrs. Edens were married January 7, 1890, in a church in the Town of Rhine, Sheboygan County. Their children are: William G. Edens of Hardwood, Mich.; Miss Erna Edens of Milwaukee; Mrs. Donald Kier of Nasonville; Mrs. Ervin VandeBerg of York; and Hans J. Edens of Rockford, Ill.
The 13 grandchildren are: Dorothy, Donald, Douglas, Delbert and Duane Edens of Hardwood; Virginia Mae and Joyce VandeBerg; and Everett, Bernard, Milton, Alice, Norbert and Muriel Kier of Nasonville.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry J. Edwards celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their home in Alma Center last Sunday afternoon. One of the happy incidents of the event was the presence of the bridesmaid of fifty years ago, Mrs. Louise Ellsworth of Avoca. A reception was held at the Edwards home Sunday afternoon and many friends called to extend congratulations. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards and family lived, about forty years ago, on the farm now owned by Guy Pierce. Later they lived in the village and for a few years he was a partner in the firm of Curtis & Edwards, hardware and furniture dealers, with stores here and at Alma Center. When the firm dissolved, Mr. Edwards purchased a farm in the Alma Center vicinity, where they lived until retirement.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ehlert celebrated their 50th Anniversary on September 24, 1974. Mrs. Ehlert is the former Bernice Thwing, daughter of Clara Scovel and Willamette (??) Thwing. She was born in the Town of Beaver (Clark Co., Wis.) and attended LaTart School. Mr. Ehlert was born near Loyal and attended school there. They were married at Loyal and were attended by Sybil Wall and Otto Ehlert. They farmed in both the Loyal and Greenwood area, and later near Abbotsford. They moved to Owen upon retirement.
There are three children, Leland of Marshfield, Clyde of Milwaukee, and Genevieve (Mrs. Fred Smith) of Owen, and nine grandchildren.
Mr. Ehlert enjoys woodworking and Mrs. Ehlert likes cooking and sewing. Both like to travel, and have been in most of the Western and Southern states.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ehlert were married September 24, 1924 at the M.E. Church in Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.). They farmed until their retirement, when they moved to Owen.
The couple are the parents of three children, Clyde Ehlert of Milwaukee, who could not attend on the celebration day, but came and spent the weekend with his parents; Leland Ehlert of Marshfield, and Mrs. Fred (Genevieve) Smith of Owen. They are the grandparents of nine grandchildren.

Happy Anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Eibergen, who celebrated 25 married years this past Saturday at the Sportsman Club. Festivities started at 2:00 p.m. with Michael Bletsoe entertaining the group with organ recitals.
Mrs. Eibergen is the former Betty Lou Zahradka. Their original wedding was August 4, 1954. The original flower girl was present from Milwaukee as was the bestman from Whitewater and the maid of honor from Hastings, Minnesota.
The Eibergens had seven children, Jeffery, Keith, Gary, Gwen (who died at three years of age), Eric, Kent and Dawn.
William Eibergen, father of Richard, lives in the village of Granton, and Anna Zahradka, mother of Betty still lives in the village of Granton, also.
Celebrants came from all parts of Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota and Florida.
The evening was completed with dance and lunch with decorated cakes.

Mr. and Mrs. B.F. Eisenbise, highly respected citizens of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), and residents of Clark County for the past thirty years, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home Sunday. Many friends who have known Mr. and Mrs. Eisenbise during their residence in Owen and the community called at their home Sunday, and congratulated and wished for them many more years of continued happiness. B.F. Eisenbise, who was born July 8, 1858, in Troy County, Illinois, and Miss Flora Moses, born May 2, 1864, in Ellenbora, Wis., were married Oct. 12, 1881, by the Rev. Mr. Cook in the parsonage of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Lancaster. They made their home in Illinois for two years and in Lancaster. Mr. and Mrs. Eisenbise are enjoying the best of health and he is steadily employed at the Master Package Corporation here. They are the parents of five children, Mrs. W.D. Hull and Mrs. Prudence Turney, Owen; Mrs. Floyd Alban, Stevens Point; Mrs. Lawrence Richardson, Whitehall; and Miss Trinnie Eisenbise, Moline, Ill. All of the children were home with the exception of the latter, who is a registered nurse and could not come for the occasion.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Eisentraut of Neillsville celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary Sunday at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Allen.
Other members of the family present were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Eisentraut of Neillsville and Mr. and Mrs. Arleigh Syth and family of Greenwood. A daughter, Mrs. Paul Hemp of Rochester, Minn., was unable to attend.
Mr. and Mrs. Eisentraut were born in the Town of Grant, in 1880 and 1882, respectively and have lived in this area all their lives.
Mr. Eisentraut and the former Rose Ruege were married February 10, 1904, in the Town of Grant, and for many years farmed south of the fairgrounds. They moved to Neillsville in 1951. He was a director and president of the Clark County Fair Association for many years and also served on the school board of the Washington School, besides taking an active part in other town activities.
They are the parents of a son and three daughters and have nine grandchildren.

Relatives and friends surprised Mr. and Mrs. E.S. Ellingson at their home on Sunday, Oct. 20, 1946 and helped them celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary by bringing a bounteous dinner and supper. The correct date of the anniversary is the 23rd.
The table was laid for 41 guests and a three-tiered wedding cake, decorated with the figure “25” and rose buds, with silver candles in white holders at each side formed the centerpiece. The place cards were small white cookies baked by Mrs. Ellingson’s sister, with the names of each guest formed in colored icing. This was done by a niece. The napkins were white with silver flowers. A white Christmas tree with 25 silver dollars wrapped in cellophane and tied on with pink ribbon, formed part of the room decorations.
The afternoon was spent singing hymns and other songs. Elmer Johnson sang a solo, “Crowned With Thy Benediction” and the brother and sisters of the bride held a mock wedding.
Mr. and Mrs. Ellingson received a purse of silver from the group, a silver salad dish, a gift from their sons. Mr. and Mrs. Erling Ellingson sent their mother a corsage of red roses and white mums tied with a silver ribbon, and their father a white carnation boutonniere. They also received many beautiful cards of congratulations.
On Oct. 23, 1921, Miss Louis Indgjer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Indgjer of Strum, Wis. became the bride of Engvald S. Ellingson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ellingson of Mondovi. The ceremony was performed at the West Bolf River Church, Rev. O.A. Hjembo officiating.
To this union were born five sons: Erling, Urbana, Ill.; Everett of Eau Claire, and Donald, James and Romaine, all at home, and one daughter, Dorie Ann, who passed away at the age of one year. All attended the celebration except Erling, who is attending the University of Illinois.
After their marriage, the Ellingsons resided in Mondovi until 1932, when they came to Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.).
Those present Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Indgjer, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Indgjer and daughter Eldora and sons Eugene, Dennis and Michael, Mr. and Mrs. Elsmore Indgjer and son James, all of Strum; Mrs. Everett Indgjer, Louis aase and son Junior, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Alleman, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Nyre, all of Mondovi; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Forbes, Muskegon, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Van Tassel, daughters Beverly and Shirley, and son bobby, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Indgjer, sons Ronald and Gary, and daughter Sandra, Mr. and Mrs. Romaine Indgjer and Everett Ellingson, all of Eau Claire, and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Johnson of Greenwood.
The group left wishing Mr. and Mrs. Ellingson many more happy occasions.

Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Elmer of Greenwood, Clark Co., WI celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, July 3, with their children and many friends attending, in honor of the event. The Elmers were married at Columbus and moved to Greenwood nearly 40 years age, where they raised a family of ten children, all of whom were present for the festivities.

On Sunday, July 3, 1938, about ninety relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Elmer in this city (Greenwood, Clark Co., Wis.) to remind them that fifty years has passed since they had wed.
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer were marriage at Columbus on July 3, 188. They came to Greenwood nearly 40 years ago and have resided here ever since. To this union were born ten children, Ervin of Greenwood; Walter of Milwaukee; Mrs. Ed Finkel of Greenwood; Ernest of Greenwood; George of Neillsville; Mrs. A. Kasum of Milwaukee; Mrs. Emery Gesme of Madison; Fred of Marshfield; Mrs. H. Brunn and Mrs. Albert Hall of Milwaukee. All were able to attend this golden anniversary, as were 22 of their 32 grandchildren.

Approximately 225 relatives and friends attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Elmer, held recently, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greenwood.
The event hosted by their children, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Elmer of Greenwood and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Elmer of Albuquerque, N.M. Mrs. :Lester Elmer could not attend because of illness. Also present were their four grandchildren.
Activities began with vocal selections by the Tri-Ettes of Milwaukee. Janice and Diane Wagner of Colby and Becky and Audrey Solberg of Elk Mound. A poem and a history of the Elmer family was given by Lester Graves of Milwaukee.
Devotions were by the Rev. David Wenger.
Mrs. Elmer wore a corsage of yellow roses and carnations and her husband wore a carnation and rose boutonniere. All members of the immediate family wore corsages, as did the three attendants present, Walter Elmer of Milwaukee, Mrs. Clara Gray and Ferdinand Franz of Greenwood; not able to attend was Mrs. Albert Hall, Mr. Elmer’s sister, of Nelarest, Fl.
The tables had floral arrangements of gold mums and daisies as centerpieces.
The Elmers were married June 23, 1928, in Immanuel United Church of Christ in Greenwood, with the Rev. Otto Vriesen officiating.
They settled on a farm northeast of Greenwood now operated by their son, Thomas. They retired from farming in 1958 and now reside four miles north of Greenwood.
Ernest Elmer, son of Mr. and Mrs. E.A, Elmer was born September 3, 1895, in Columbus. He came to Greenwood with his parents in 1902. He served in World War I and was employed in Milwaukee before his marriage. He was secretary of the Greenwood Equity Shipping Association for 26 years and secretary or director of the Midland Cooperative for 21 years. His hobby is fishing.
Mrs. Elmer, the former Bertha Franz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Franz was born May 26, 1904, in Greenwood. She also was employed in Milwaukee before her marriage. Her hobbies are knitting, crocheting, and quilting. Both are in good health.
The couple received many gifts and congratulatory messages. Relatives and friends held an old-fashioned Chivaree at their home in the late evening. A lunch was served. People attending from a distance were from Texas, Arizona, New Mexico; and from Milwaukee, Madison. Janesville, Milton Junction, Mt. Horeb, Elk Mound, Wisconsin Rapids, Cecil, New Berlin and surrounding communities.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Elmhorst were joined at Bali Hai by their children on Friday evening to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. Cathy (Mrs. Richard Winter) baked a beautiful cake and they were presented with a gift by their children.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Elmhorst Sr. of the Town of Fremont, renewed their marriage vows, made 40 years ago, at a ceremony Thursday evening, Sept. 26, at their home. The Rev. Arthur H. Laesch, of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Granton, officiated.
The home was appropriately decorated with garden flowers, and Mrs. Elmhorst carried a large bouquet of white gladioli. Songs in keeping with the occasion were sung by a group numbering 60.
A mock wedding was the high light of the evening. Acting as the bride was Miss Laura Mae Elmhorst, youngest daughter of the Henry Elmhorsts, who wore her mother’s wedding gown, veil, and wreath, and Henry Elmhorst Jr. as groom, attired in his fathers wedding suit. Ray Tyler was "the minister". After the evening’s entertainment, lunch was served. The anniversary cake was decorated with a miniature bride and groom and 40 ruby-colored candles. A purse of money was presented to the honor guests by the group. Children and their families who attended were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Elmhorst and sons, Ronald and Wendell, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Elmhorst, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Elmhorst and daughter, Wanda, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Elmhorst Jr. and sons, Eldred, Henry IV, Roy, and Billie, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Smith and daughter, Evelyn, and sons, Jerry and Roderick, and Vera, Verna, and Laura Mae Elmhorst. Four children were unable to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Elmhorst were honored at a 50th anniversary celebration held at the Sportsmen’s Club Hall in Granton on January 21. Festivities included a musical program, dinner and dancing in the evening.
Frederick was born in Kankakee, Illinois, on January 6, 1911. He moved with his family to a farm in the Town of York in 1923. He attended public school and graduated from Zion Parochial School in Granton.
Christine Daniels was born in Sheboygan Falls, and moved with her family to a farm in the Town of Grant in 1916. She attended public school and graduated from Granton High School.
They were married in Granton in the parsonage of Zion Lutheran Church by the Rev. Arthur Laesch on January 24, 1934. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Elmhorst were their attendants. They farmed in the Town of York and later went into the logging and trucking business with their sons helping.
Their children are Frederick of Lakeland, Florida; Thomas, Albuquerque, New Mexico; Mrs. Donald (Geraldine) Scharf, Granton; Mrs. Richard (Catherine) Winter of Granton and Mrs. David (Barbara) Bendlin of Milton. A son David, died at the age of ten.
Since retirement, the couple have spent time visiting their sons during the winter months. They also sold Christmas Trees in Texas and South Dakota. They worship at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton.

Mr. and Mrs. John Elsinger celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary Sunday, Aug. 19, 1951. The Elsingers were married at St. Lawrence by the Rev. Peter Schweiger, Oct. 29, 1901, but as all children could not be in attendance at a celebration in October, the observance of the anniversary was set for August 19.
Mrs. Elsinger, nee Annie Redig, was born Nov. 2, 1880 and Mr. Elsinger, Aug. 27, 1876. Both were born in Washington Co. After their marriage they lived on a farm near Hartford for 5 years, then moved to a farm near Loyal (Clark Co., Wis.) in 1906. They moved into the city 8 years ago.
The Elsingers have 10 children living, and all were present for the celebration. They are George and Gerald, Pittsburgh, Pa; Andrew, Guttenberg, Iowa; Lawrence, Dell Rapids, S.D.; Francis, Bismarck, N.D.; John Jr. on the home farm; Mrs. Thomas (Veronica) Goode, Chicago; Mrs. Richard (Sylvia) Reuter, Marshall, Mich.; Sister M. Florentine, Chicago; and Mrs. Paul (Mary Ann) Reuter, DeWitt, Mich. They have 29 grandchildren, 23 attended the celebration.
A special Golden Wedding Mass was offered at St. Anthony’s Church at 8 a.m. with the Rev. Andrew Redig of Winceslaus Parish, Milwaukee, officiating. The Rev. Redig is a nephew of Mrs. Elsinger. A special Nuptial Blessing was offered by the Rev. Norbert King of Loyal. Mass was sung by the parish choir.
Two granddaughters, Diane Reuter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Reuter, and Jeannette Elsinger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Elsinger Jr., were flower girls. Their floor length dresses were of gold satin and they carried nosegays.
The altar boys were all grandsons, Kenneth and Francis Elsinger, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Elsinger, and Andrew Jr. and Cyril Elsinger, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Elsinger.
The ten children served as wedding attendants for their parents.
Special processional and recessional music was played by Mrs. Elsinger’s sister, Sister M. Huberta of St. Catherine Parish, Milwaukee. Dinner and supper were served to 150 guests in the church hall. The Altar Society prepared the meal and the young ladies of the Sodality were waitresses.
The wedding cake was baked by Mrs. Andrew Elsinger.
A program was given by the grandchildren in the afternoon and Sister M. Huberta and Sister Andrella, McHenry, Ill., another sister of Mrs. Elsinger, played the violin and piano. At this time they were presented with keys to a new car which was the children’s gift to their parents.
Mrs. Thomas Goode and Mrs. Richard Reuter, twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Elsinger, assisted their parents in opening of the gifts. Many beautiful gifts were received, also many cards of congratulations and good wishes.
Others from out of town attended were Sister M. Although there are two of the wedding attendants living, Mrs. Charlie Weinard, Slinger, and Mrs. Antone Schuh, Hartford, neither was able to attend.

55th ANNIVERSARY - Mr. and Mrs. John Elsinger were guests of honor at a recent celebration at their home in honor of their 55th wedding anniversary. Although the actual date won’t occur until October 29, all the children of the Elsingers from a total of eight states gathered here for the occasion before the start of school. The children presented their parents with a new television.

Mr. and Mrs. George Empey, route 1, Abbotsford, were honored on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary when relatives and friends attended the open house held for them Sunday afternoon at the home of their only son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Empey, route 1, Abbotsford.
Mrs. Empey, the former Hattie Paul of Stetsonville, and George Empey of the town of Holton were married at Medford Sept. 30, 1914.
After their marriage the couple farmed in the town of Holton on the farm where Mr. Empey was born, which they operated until his retirement.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Empey are members of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Milan.
The Empeys have one son, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Empey has two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Nellie) Baronsky of Abbotsford, who was a bridesmaid at the wedding fifty years ago, and Mrs. Exie. Schauss of Rib Lake.
Mrs. Empey has three sisters, Mrs. Ed (Ella) Brechlin of Abbotsford, Mrs. Gust (Emma) Brechlin of Dorchester, and Mrs. Walter (Louise) Brunner of Stetsonville, and two brothers, Edgar Paul and Henry Paul of Stetsonville.
Among the relatives who were her for the open house were the two sisters of Mr. Empey and the three sisters and a brother, Edgar Paul, of Mrs. Empey, two sisters-in-law of Mrs. Empey, Mrs. Berth Paul of Stanley and Mrs. Rose Paul and her daughter and children of Stratford, and three nieces of Mr. Empey, Mrs. Albert Marske and family of Rib Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Wallner of Cudahy and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Kern and family of Waukesha. Other relatives and friends came from Medford, Stetsonville, Dorchester, Abbotsford and vicinity.
Mr. and Mrs. Empey were also guests of honor at a dinner party Sept. 30 at the Colby Hotel, given by the Holton Homemaker's Club, of which Mrs. Empey is a charter member. The club presented Mrs. Empey with a corsage of bronze mums and Mr. Empey with a boutonniere which they wore again at the open house occasion.

Robert and Mary Ann Endreas of Spencer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sept. 6, 2004.
Their celebration began with the family attending the 10:30 a.m. Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church, Spencer. The Rev. Charles Stoetzel officiated, assisted by the Rev. Steve Brice of Wausau and the Rev. John Malik of Colby. Music was provided by Sue Sautner, organist; Jan Strey, pianist and soloist; and the parish choir.
Following the church service, dinner was served at Belvedere Supper Club for 150 guests. A Power Point presentation prepared by the Endreas family was shown, featuring the couple's 50 years together. A reception and dance followed. The anniversary celebration was a gift from family members.
Original wedding attendants were Herb and Audrey Meyer of Marshfield, best man and matron of honor; Janet (Graves) Loughead of Two Rivers, bridesmaid; and Ernest Messer of Beloit, usher. Other attendants, Eugene Endries (usher), Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hansen and Gary Ehlert, are deceased. The honored couple attended the 50th Anniversary Mass and dinner on Aug. 1 in La Crosse, for all couples of the diocese who celebrated a 50th anniversary this year. The Rev. John Malik of Colby was the officiate.
Robert Endreas and the former Mary Ann Messer were married Sept. 6, 1954, at Christ the King Catholic Church, with the Rev. J.J. Sheridan officiating.
Robert was born April 23, 1926, in Marshfield, the son of Joseph and Emma Endreas. He attended Cameron School and is a 1943 graduate of Spencer High School. Prior to marriage, he worked at the paper mill in Wisconsin Rapids and for Nash Kelvinator in Milwaukee. He served in the Army from 1950 to 1952, stationed in Korea with the 45th Division Ordnance Supply Unit. They then farmed in rural Marshfield until 1958.
Following their marriage, he worked as a production foreman in the mobile home industry for 35 years. He has worked as custodian and groundskeeper for Heritage Bank in Spencer since 1971. He also worked at Belvedere Supper Club from 1977 to 1988.
He was a member of the Spencer Fire Department for 15 years, served on the Spencer Village Board and the cemetery board and served as an assistant Scoutmaster for several years. He is an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus and was named Knight of the Year in 1994.
He was named Spencer Outstanding Citizen in 1996. Robert, along with Marge Yost, have run Kings Pantry since it began in 1992.
Mary Ann was born Jan. 3, 1932, in Unity, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Messer. She attended Spencer public schools. She is a 1950 graduate of Spencer High School and attended Gale Institute in Minneapolis. Prior to marriage, she worked for Graves Mercantile Co. in Spencer.
Robert and Mary Ann are members of Christ the King Catholic Church. Robert has been a choir member and Holy Name Society officer for many years and served several terms on the Parish Council. Mary Ann has also been a choir member for many years and is a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women for which she has held several offices. She was also co-chairwoman of St. Catherine's Circle.
Following marriage, she worked at Land O'Lakes for 22 years, and also works as custodian at Heritage Bank. She retired on Dec. 31, 1993, from Land O'Lakes. Since retiring, she has worked at Christ the King parish as sacristan and housekeeper.
She also worked with the local Girl Scouts for several years and served as their leader and cookie chairman.
The couple first lived in rural Marshfield and have lived in Spencer since 1958. Mary Ann enjoys reading, playing sheepshead, traveling and spending time with family, especially their grandchildren.
Robert enjoys playing sheepshead with friends and on the computer, traveling, spending time with their grandchildren and family camping trips to Jellystone. Both enjoy attending all of their grandchildren's sporting events.
Their family includes Steve Endreas of Marshfield; Nancy (William) Kautza, Sue (Randy) Cournoyer, Cheryl (Philip) White and Mike (Bev) Endreas, all of Spencer; and Julie (Ted) Steines of Auburndale; and 14 grandchildren. Another son, Philip Allen Endreas, died in June 1959.

A 55th anniversary picnic was held June 11 for Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Englebretson at their home on Route 1, Owen.
The couple’s two daughters, Mrs. Earl Stafford of Dorchester and Lucille Markee, Greenwood, were among the guests.
The Englebretsons farmed in the town of Beaver for many years, retiring about 10 years ago. They are members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Longwood.
Mrs. Englebretson enjoys reading and her husband gardening and working with wood.

The affair was held at Trails End, 3901 West Sherman Road, Wausau. While Mr. and Mrs. John Epding of this city were celebrating their silver wedding anniversary Tuesday, their son Arthur was united in marriage to Miss Marian Erickson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Erickson of Merrillan. The ceremony took place at the Zion Reformed Church at 4 p.m., the pastor, Rev. E. H. Vornholdt, officiating. Mr. and Mrs. John Epding were married 25 years ago Tuesday in Chicago.
Miss Erickson was attended by Miss Velma Reed of Neillsville as bridesmaid and John Epding, Jr., brother of the groom, was best man. Lohengrin’s Wedding March was played by Miss Nancy Deutsch. The bride is a graduate of the Merrillan high school and is spoken highly of by all who know her. Mr. Epding is a young man of excellent character and is employed at the American Stores Dairy Company condensery.
A wedding supper was held at the home of the groom’s parents, attended by 50 guests. The room and table were colorfully decorated in white, gold and silver. A shower in honor of Mr. and Mrs. John Epding was given in the evening, the couple receiving many beautiful and useful gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Epding have been residents of their community for the past 18 years. They have three children. Mrs. Epding’s brother, Otto Garski and family of Chicago were present for the wedding and anniversary celebration.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Epding have engaged an apartment at the Dr. E. L. Bradbury residence where they will make their home.

An open house was held at 5 p.m., Saturday, November 11, 1967, was the occasion for celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred M. Erickson, Curtiss (Clark Co., Wis.).
The celebration took place in the St. Paul Lutheran Church Parish Hall at Curtiss and about 300 relatives, friends and neighbors greeted the couple. Among them was a brother of Mr. Erickson, Cornel Erickson of Curtiss, who was one of the attendants when Alfred Erickson and the former Laura J. Geary were married on November 7, 1917, by the Rev. H.P. Nordby at Abbotsford.
Mrs. Erickson had a corsage of yellow and rust chrysanthemums and her husband a yellow boutonniere. Until retirement in 1961, Mr. Erickson was a cashier at the Owen-Curtiss State Bank, a position he began in 1927. He and his wife are members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Both enjoy good health and he still pursues his hobby, that of fishing.
Mr. and Mrs. Erickson are the parents of two children, Dr. John M. Erickson, a professor at St. Cloud State College, St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Mrs. H.J. (Ethel) Wardwell, receptionist at St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse. There are six grandchildren
Mr. Erickson was born in Curtiss on March 13, 1893, and his wife on November 7, 1897, at Chaseburg. Their parents were Iver and Helen Erickson and John A. and Mathilda Geary. He received his education at Midway Grade School, Owen High School and Eau Claire Business School. Mrs. Erickson attended schools at Chaseburg.

Tuesday evening two sleigh loads of young folks drove out to the Tom Erickson home, southeast of Greenwood and helped Mr. and Mrs. Erickson celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary. Games were played and at a late hour a very delicious lunch was served. Before departing for their respective homes, the guests presented Mr. and Mrs. Erickson with a purse of money in remembrance of the occasion. All present had a very enjoyable time and wish Mr. and Mrs. Erickson many more happy wedding anniversaries.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Erickson of Greenwood celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary February 23 at their home in the Black River Apartments.
Present were relatives and friends, including Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Lyon and daughter, Beth of Milwaukee.
Unable to attend because of the snowstorm were the couple’s only son, Burnell Erickson, and his wife of Pardeeville, and their 16 children and their families. The honored couple have 20 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Erickson, the son of Andrew and Bertha Erickson, was born May 30, 1889, in Vanders, Norway. He came to the United States with his parents at the age of four. The family settled in Blanchardville, where he received his education and later worked as a farm laborer.
Mrs. Erickson, nee, Clara Gilbertson, was born November 6, 1892, near Argyle, and received her education in the Adams Township School.
After their marriage, the Erickson’s lived for two years on a farm in in Blanchardville. They came to Greenwood in 1918 and farmed for one year three miles northeast of Greenwood, and then moved onto a farm 3 1/2 miles southeast of Greenwood. When they retired from farming in 1934, they moved into the city of Greenwood and for the last five years have resided in the Black Riverview apartments.
The honored couple received many gifts and congratulation messages, including a decorated anniversary cake, a basket of fruit, a purse of money and an anniversary card from the participants and a staff of the Greenwood Nutrition Center.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ertl, route 1, Unity, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Spencer Municipal Hall. The couple was married in 1914 in St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hewitt.
A buffet supper was served for 100 guests, and an open house was held from 2 to 7 p.m.
The Ertls spent the first 23 years of their married life on a farm near Spencer, then moved into Spencer for another four years. The next five years were spent on a farm near Colby, after which they moved to Abbotsford for two years. They then moved to their present home near Unity. They retired last June.

Another son, Pvt. Frank W. Ertl, was killed in action while serving in Italy during World War II.

Dancing was the entertainment, and refreshments and lunch were served.

Neillsville area residents since 1930, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Eslinger of Rt.2, observed their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, June 5, with an open house and dance at the American Legion Hall.
Carl Eslinger and the former Stella Johanek were married June 9, 1926, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Mishicot by the Rev. Edward Zell. Their attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Steve Johanek, Mrs. Paul Seelow, Mrs. Alvin Lutz, Mrs. Richard Plansky, Clarence Staral, Charley Johanek and Edward Johanek. Charley and Edward Johanek are now deceased.
Mrs. Eslinger was born in Kewaunee County on November 11, 1908 and attended schools there. She worked in the Two Rivers aluminum factory and also in Chicago before moving to this area and has been employed as a nurse’s aide at Memorial Home for many years. Mr. Eslinger was born February 28, 1904, Manitowoc County where he received his education. He, too, worked in an aluminum factory, and farmed formerly in Kewaunee County. The couple came to Clark County in 1930 and have farmed here since that time.
The Eslingers are parents of a daughter, Mrs. Arlene Hilliard of Rt. 2 Neillsville. Another daughter, Joyce Eslinger Pozega, is deceased. There are three grandchildren, Steve and Dennis Pozega and Kevin Hilliard, and three great-grandchildren, Raye Ann, Steve and Tammy Pozega.

Friends and neighbors came to help Mr. and Mrs. Carl Eslinger celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary on Saturday, May 30.
They were married on June 9, 1926, at St. Peter’s Church in Mishicot in Manitowoc County. The celebration was given by their daughter, Arlene Hilliard, and her son, Kevin, and by their grandsons, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Pozega and family of North Dakota and Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Pozega of Chili.
Those who attended from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Steve Johanek, Maribel, who were bestman and matron of honor at the Eslinger’s wedding; Mr. and Mrs. Anton Johanek, Kewaunee; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Stangel, Two Rivers; Mrs. Laddie Walechka, and Mrs. Richard Plansky, Kewaunee, who was flower girl for the wedding; Nona Essie, Madison; Mr./Mrs. Gordon Blumer and family, Brookley; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ives and family, Colfax; Mr. and Mrs. Steve Pozega and family, N.D.; and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Seelow. Last week Thursday a large number of guests assembled at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Esselman of the town of Loyal to help them celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of their wedding. It was a most pleasant affair from every point of view. Over 80 people ate dinner together at the home and 120 were present at supper; a splendid collection of silverware was brought by the guests. Mr. and Mrs. Esselman are among the most popular people of their community and has a wide circle of friends extending to some distance. All rejoiced to see this worthy couple so successful in life and well provided for. Those who went up from here were Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Altemus, Mrs. Mary Lambert and son Hays.

Mr. and Mrs. William Essex celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at the Loyal Methodist Church on Sunday, April 2.
Two floral arrangements of yellow roses and yellow tulips on a gold foil base with a gold and white “50: on the top and tall white tapers in brass candlesticks were used for decorations. The anniversary couple were presented with a gold orchid and gold carnation boutonnierre.
A dinner was served to about forty relatives in the church dining room at noon. A open house was held from 3 to 6 p.m..
Mr. and Mrs. Essex were married April 4, 1917 at Yuba, with James Kelley officiating. Mr. Essex was born at Bloom City and his parents were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Essex. Mrs. Essex was born also at Bloom City and her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wallace. Both are members of the Loyal Methodist Church.
They are the parents of a son Eddie E. Essex, Crystal Lake, Illinois and Mrs. Clyde (Eva) Grambach, Loyal. One daughter Ethel Berdine dies July of 1925. There are six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Essex hobbies are camping, fishing and flowers. Mr. Essex enjoyed camping and fishing.
Isaac Wallace, Yuba, best man at their wedding was able to attend the event. He is a brother of Mrs. Essex. The maid of honor Mrs. Elvin Hayter was unable to attend fue to the illness of her father.

Mr. and Mrs. William Essex, 221 South Main St., Loyal, were honored April 4 at a family gathering in Loyal. The festivities marked the 65 year mark for the couple.
William Essex and the former Mary Elizabeth Wallace were married at Yuba in Richland County on April 4, 1917. After farming there for several years, they moved to Clark County where he became a cheesemaker at the Cherry Valley Cheese Factory.
William worked at several other factories before they came to the Town of York in 1930. Six years later they moved to Loyal. There he had trucked milk, later operated a gas station and worked at several other places through the years.
Both like to travel. They are members of the Loyal United Methodist Church.
They have two children, Mrs. Clyde (Eva) Grambsch, Loyal, and Eddie, living in Florida. There are six grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Etta celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, July 4, at their home in Loyal, the event having been arranged by their children. A bounteous chicken dinner was served at 1 o’clock. The color scheme was gold and white.
Maple syrup made by the honored couple, sealed in a mason jar of the 1858 type, and labeled "To be opened at our Golden Wedding" was opened by Mrs. Etta. The guests, as it was served them, converted their ice cream into richly flavored maple sundaes. The can of syrup has been an object of interest, in the family these many years as they have watched a candied formation come into it and then thoroughly disappear again. Friends are yet sampling with interest the remainder of the can.
The Ettas are among the early settlers of this section. Mrs. Etta has lived in Clark County practically all her life. Mr. J. H. Etta came to Loyal 55 years ago from New Fane, Wis., his birthplace.
There were married in Colby, Wis., in 1887. For several years following 1892, Mr. Etta with his brother Thomas, operated a lumber mill in Loyal. Then for many years, after the passing of lumber mills in this section, he operated a feed mill. All through the years, in addition to these activities he did carpenter and cabinet work and building quiet extensively. Now, at the age of 81, he came home for this event from northern Wisconsin, where he is building a pavilion.
The two sons, with their wives, the four daughters, with their husbands and five grandchildren, were all in attendance: E. J. Etta of Medford, Oscar Etta of Loyal; Mrs. Harold Stabnow of Greenwood, Mrs. Fred Tolleth of Wisconsin Dells, Mrs. Perry Volk of Loyal and Mrs. Carl Keiner of Eau Claire. The grand children are Valeria and Robert Etta of Medford, Donald and Dale Stabnow of Greenwood and Patricia Keiner of Eau Claire.

Last Friday, Oct. 14, Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Etta reached the 50th mile post of their married life, a mile post that comparatively few reach. Because it would more convenient for their guests to come on Sunday, the celebration of their anniversary was postponed to the 16th. The day was beautiful and many lovely garden flowers in golden shades were available for decorations. In recalling the original wedding day the bridal couple remembered that the weather of Oct. 1888 was much as it has been this year but that within a week after the wedding the snow came and remained till spring. They were married in Greenwood at High noon by Rev. Geo. Andrews. The best man was the bride’s brother, Chas. Stange, and the bride’s maid was the (then) Miss Tena Luchterhand. Soon after their marriage they went to Kewaskum in Washington Co. where Mr. Etta worked as a mechanic. Here the two oldest sons were born, Irvin, who died in 1918, and Clarence of Minneapolis. In a few years they returned to Loyal where for many years he and his brother Henry were in partnership in various kinds of mills, shingle, planning, and feed grinding. Then for several years he worked for the Loyal Canning Co. Today at the age of 76 he is still very active caring for a large garden, lawns, ect. Mrs. Etta at the age of 69 still ably carries on her work of home-making. She enjoys life and attends most of the meetings of the societies to which she belongs, the Birthday Circle, O. E. S., and R. N. A.
About 45 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Etta built the pleasant home where they have since resided.
Because the real celebration of their Golden Wedding was not to occur until the following Sunday, neighbors decided they would take advantage of the 14th to give them each a party. "Tom" was invited to the Oscar Etta home where a group of fellow workers from the canning factory spent the evening with him. About 30 neighbors and other friends met at the home of Mrs. Bernard Davel, where with games and other pastimes, they helped Mrs. Etta spend a jolly evening.
Relatives only attended the celebration on Sunday. They were the children, Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Etta of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Etta and children, Thorp; Mrs. Celia Woodkey and children, Marshfield; and Miss Eva Etta, Loyal; also Mr. and Mrs. Herman Stange, Mr. Louis Stange, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Etta, Mr. Perry Volk, all of Loyal, and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stabnow, Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tolleth, Kilbourne City; and Mr. and Mrs. Charley Woodkey, and Miss Margaret Trachte, Marshfield.
The children and grandchildren were present for the noon time meal while the other guests joined them for a 5 o’clock dinner. The table was decorated with a lovely wedding cake brought by Mrs. Celia Woodkey. Several gifts were received. Mr. and Mrs. Etta have a host of friends in Loyal and vicinity who wish for them many more years of married life.

Mr. and Mrs. William Evans celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at Marshfield, with 35 relatives and friends present for dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Evans came here 39 years ago from Juneau county and since owned and operated a 120-acre farm in the town of Loyal until 17 years ago, when they discontinued farming and moved to Loyal.
They have five children: Mrs. Herman Bires of Eugene, Ore.; Mrs. Henry Anderegg of Loyal: Mrs. Carl Olstinske of Racine: Mrs. Clayton Bassett of Flint, Mich.; and William Evans Jr. of Marshfield, also 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Evanson will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, August 2, at Calvary Lutheran Church, with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m., and a dinner served to members of the family and immediate friends about 5 p.m.
Edwin Evanson was married to Miss Syneva Breiseth in St. Paul, Minn., July 16, 1909; but because of the recent major surgery of Mrs. Evanson, the golden wedding celebration has been postponed.
Syneva Breiseth was born in Norway in 1889. She received her grade school education in Norway and came to America in 1905, locating in Blanchardville, in southern Wisconsin. Edwin Evanson was born in Norway September 1, 1885, received his grade school education and two years of military school training in Norway. After working on a farm in Norway, he came to America in 1907, locating in Rhinelander, where a friend of his youth had located earlier.
After working for a year in a logging camp and later in a saw mill near Rhinelander, he moved to Fergus Falls, Minn., where he joined a cousin on the Northern Pacific railroad. A tornado, the worst he ever had seen, hit Fergus Falls, destroying a large railroad bridge, tipping over a freight train, and doing much damage to buildings and other property.
The next year he hired out with Swift and Co., and worked in a dressing and packing plant. His job was in the butchering department, and it was his responsibility to dispatch 1,000 sheep and 100 calves every day. Later he was employed in the Great Northern Railway shop at St. Paul.
After their marriage in 1909, Mr. and Mrs. Evanson lived in St. Paul for three years and in 1912 moved to Argyle, where Mr. Evanson, a professional carpenter, built his own home. In 1919, they moved to Clark County and located on a farm in the Town of Eaton, a mile east of Greenwood. In 1932 they moved to Neillsville, renting the Hagen (or Ostling) farm, just north of the city and across from the present Maurice Meredith residence.
In 1936, they moved to the town of Grant, purchasing the Zimmerman farm on which they lived for 10 years, finally selling it to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stanley. During their residence in the Town of Grant, their home was burned to the ground in the fall of 1941, and Mr. Evanson rebuilt it.
In 1946, they purchased the Arnold Dudei residence on East Sixth Street and in 1947, after being away from the land of their birth nearly 40 years, they returned to Norway and spent two months there, visiting cousins and a brother and sister.
They sold their residence in 1952 to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stocheck, and purchased the Mueller residence one-half block to the east. Mr. Evanson made many improvements on the new residence. He has followed the carpenter trade for nearly 50 years, starting at Argyle. He assisted with the construction of barracks at Camp Grant in World War I; and at Camp McCoy in World War II.
At Badger City, near Baraboo, he assisted with the construction of buildings for the storage of powder, and has also, busied himself from time to time in construction work at Neillsville.
Mr. Evanson started hunting in Norway for turkey, elk, bear and other game. In America he has continued his hobby and has hunted every year except the fall he made the trip to Norway. He loves deer hunting and last year was successful in downing mule deer in Montana and in getting his buck and the camp meat for his group in Jackson County.
"My vision is perfect and I do not need glasses," Mr. Evanson said.
Mrs. Evanson attended high school and Business College at Rhinelander and has led an active life. She has been on the hot lunch staff at Neillsville High School and has been in charge of dinners for many organizations in recent years. Mr. and Mrs. Evanson are active members of Calvary Lutheran Church.
Their four children and their families expect to be present at the anniversary celebration. They include: Stanley, Mrs. Arne (Agnes) Matheson, Orville and Roland.

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Evanson observed their golden wedding anniversary Sunday with 150 relatives and friends joining with them at Calvary Lutheran Church. Open house was held in the afternoon, and 75 relatives and other friends joined in the anniversary dinner at 5 p.m.
An afternoon program was held in the church dining hall with Orville Evanson as toastmaster. Joe Cissna, a lay pastor of Greenwood, offered an opening and closing prayer. The toastmaster delivered a short address in which he traced the history of his parents from their early life in Norway down to their 50th wedding anniversary. The other three children, Stanley, Roland and Agnes (Mrs. Arne Matheson) each spoke briefly of interesting events of the family.
Sherri Matheson sang "Two Hearts in One United," accompanied by Deon Larsen. A reading was presented by Carolyn Evanson and Dennis, Duane and Jerri Lee Evanson delivered appropriate verses. Wilfred B. Galstad sang, "I Love You Truly", accompanied by Kathleen Galstad.
The formal dinner at 5 p.m., Mr. Cissna offered a prayer before the meal and Rev. Kermit Grundahl of Minneapolis, a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Evanson, delivered a closing message and prayer.
An anniversary cake was made by Mrs. Matheson and Mrs. Florence Evanson, and was trimmed by Mrs. Bernita Olson. The reception committee consisted of Mrs. Irene Geise, Mrs. Agnes Jordahl, Mrs. Nora Ylvisaker, Mrs. Lee Heimstead, Mrs. Melvin Appleyard, Mrs. Murel Mott and Mrs. Ervin Kroll.
Mrs. Jordahl served punch; coffee was served by Mrs. Ylvisaker. Mrs. John D. Wuethrich had charge of the guest book. Mrs. Melvin Appleyard cut the anniversary cake.
The dinner committee included: Mrs. Melvin Mech, Mrs. Kenneth Olson, Mrs. Laura Biggs, Mrs. Ted Kopp, Mrs. Thomas Dorski, Mrs. Hilbert Naedler, Mrs. Fred Appleyard, and Mrs. Allard Olson.

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Evanson, who were married July 16, 1909, in St. Paul, Minn., were honored at a 55th wedding anniversary dinner at the Oscar Gunderson home in Marshfield recently. Mr. and Mrs. Arne Matheson, son-in-law and daughter of the Evansons, and their daughter, Sheri, also were guest at the dinner.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Evanson were born in Norway, where they attended grade and high school. On coming to the United States, Mr. Evanson worked as a carpenter and Mrs. Evanson attended a business school in Rhinelander. Prior to moving to Neillsville in 1956 they farmed in the town of Eaton.
Mr. and Mrs. Evanson are the parents of three living children: Roland of Mosinee; Orville of Wausau and until recently of Neillsville, and Mrs. Matheson. Two children died in infancy and a son, Stanley, of Detroit lakes, Minn., died in 1962. They have eight grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Evanson of Neillsville observed their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house at their home here, Sunday afternoon and evening. Approximately 100 people attended.
Mrs. Evanson was born in Norway, March 10, 1889, and received her grade school education there. She came to America in 1905, and located in Blanchardville, in southern Wisconsin. She attended two years of high school and six months of Business College in Rhinelander.

After their marriage July 16, 1909 they lived in St. Paul for three years and moved to Argyle where Mr. Evanson, a professional carpenter, built their home. In 1919 the couple moved to Clark County and farmed in the Town of Eaton, a mile east of Greenwood. They moved to Neillsville in 1932, and rented the Hagen (or Ostling) farm, north of the city. They purchased the Zimmerman farm in the Town of Grant in 1936. The house burned in 1941 and Mr. Evanson rebuilt it. The farm is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stanley. In 1946 they purchased the Arnold Dudei residence on E. 6th Street.
In 1947, after nearly 40 years away, they returned to their homeland of Norway, where they visited a brother, a sister and some cousins and saw and heard of the tragedies brought to their country by the war.
They sold their home to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Stocheck in 1952 and bought the old Mueller residence.
Mr. Evanson was always fond of hunting, stating in Norway where he hunted for turkey, elk, bear and other game. Ten years ago, when they observed their Golden wedding anniversary, his vision was perfect and he had no need for glasses. Now, observing their 60th wedding anniversary, he needs them only for reading.
In the spring of 1966, they again visited his brother and other relatives and friends in Norway, but this was a more pleasant experience, as the country was again beautiful. Buildings had been rebuilt and the ravages of war seemed quite distant. While they were there, the King of Norway dedicated a new church and they were standing quite close to him.
It is a friendly country and those that met them at the airport brought a bouquet of flowers. When a guest is expected at someone’s home, the Norwegian Flag is flown.
Those attending the anniversary open house included: The Rev. and Mrs. E. g. Burtness of Roscoe, Ill., formerly of the Calvary Lutheran Church, and the Rev. and Mrs. Jack Grether of Neillsville. Mrs. Evanson’s nephew, the Rev. K. C. Grundahl of Minneapolis, Minn., had planned to attend, but was unable to do so as he had to take over the duties of another minister at Daleyville. Drs. Milton and Sarah Rosekrans were present, and Dr. Milton entertained the people around him with some of his famous anecdotes.
Cake, cookies, coffee and punch were served.
Mrs. Evanson, who was on the hot lunch staff at Neillsville High School for several years, baked the cookies. Miss Linda Grottke helped with the serving and in other ways throughout the day.
Mr. and Mrs. Evanson’s family brought them gifts, including a diamond ring and a diamond tie clasp, a corsage and boutonniere, and a large, decorated wedding cake. They also received other gifts from relatives and friends and many cards and letters.
Their three children and families were present for the day. They are: Mr. and Mrs. Arne (Agnes) Matheson and daughter, Sherry of Waukesha; Mr. and Mrs. Orville Evanson and son, Duane and Mr. and Mrs. Roland Evanson (other information was cut off.)

A very pleasant gathering of relatives and friends met at the Charles Ewert home Sunday to help Mr. and Mrs. Ewert observe their 50th wedding anniversary which was observed Sunday instead of Tuesday, April 17th, the correct day, because some of their children would have been unable to attend then.
Mr. Ewert was born in Germany October 23, 1875 and came with his parents to the United States when he was 6 years old. He can still recall a few special happenings in his childhood in Germany and distinctly remembers his trip over in the boat.
Mrs. Ewert, formerly Emma Voth, was born September 9, 1882 on a farm in the Town of Unity. The Ewerts were married in the church at Romeo April 17, 1901 and for years lived on the farm where Mrs. Ewert was born. It was here that their five children were born.
They have two daughters, Mrs. Irene Lynn of Wausau, and Mrs. George Strohman of Marshfield, and three sons, Edwin of Wausau, Myron of Madison and Walter of Fond du Lac. They also have eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In 1908 they moved from the Town of Unity to a farm which they purchased in the Town of Brighton. In 1942 they retired and moved to the village. Two years ago they built a new home on the east side where they now live.
Out of town friends and relatives who attended the celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Ewert and sons, Wausau; Mrs. Irene Lynn and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Jaeger, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Myron Ewert and son, Madison; Mrs. George Strohman and daughter, Marshfield; and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Ewert of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Greening, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ringquist, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Krause and Mrs. Tillie Manthe, Spencer and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Meyer of Colby.
There were a large number from the village who attended and a dinner was served at 4 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Ewert were presented with a purse of money and several gifts among which were a gold fish hook and spinner for Mr. Ewert, who spends much of his time fishing. Mrs. Ewert’s health keeps her confined to her home much of the time.

Eysnolge Golden Wedding is Held-Town of York Couple Is Honored on 50th Anniversary
December 27, 1937, marked the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Eysnogle of the town of York, the event being celebrated at their home Christmas day, surrounded by their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their families.
Joseph M. Eysnogle and Nettie Deets were married December 27, 1887, in the town of Bloom, Richland County, Wisconsin and these vows were renewed before Rev. Raymond J. Fleming, pastor of the Loyal and York Center M. E. Churches, upon their golden wedding day. The bride was attired in a navy blue silk dress which she had fashioned with her own hands. She wore a gold flower and carried a fresh bouquet of gold chrysanthemums.
Shortly after their marriage they purchased a tract of wild land and through years of hard work and thrift, built for themselves and family a comfortable home. This farm was later sold and the family moved to Clark County onto a 90-acre tract of land near Spokeville. After living there for seven years they returned to Richland County and in 1914 again decided to make their home in Clark County. Accordingly they purchased the Wm. Garvin farm in York Township. Four or five years later they rented this farm to their daughter and for the past year to a granddaughter, Mrs. Herbert Sensome, and bought a 30-acre tract of land. Here they still resided and enjoy farming on a smaller scale.
Mr. and Mrs. Eysnogle do all their own work, care for a small herd of cows and he cuts his own wood on a wooded forty three-fourths mile from their home. He also takes great pleasure in drawing tight reigns over the backs of a lively team of young horses. They have lived a busy, yet happy and harmonious life. Wherever they lived they affiliated themselves with some church and were never too busily engaged in their own affairs to assist their church and community in the finer things in life. Since living in the town of York they have been loyal members of the Methodist Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Eysnogle have three daughters, Blanche, Mrs. Charles Schaeffner, Spokeville; Zettie, Mrs. J. V. Young, Town of York; and Dessie, Mrs. Merton Davis, of Medford. There are six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom were here for the anniversary celebration except one grandchild; and one great-grandchild, Mrs. Irma Hollister and little son of Des Moines, Iowa. Guests at the celebrations besides the immediate family were Rev. and Mrs. Flemming, Loyal and Miss Catherine Gassen, Neillsville, Wis.
The following Monday evening friends and neighbors of the couple gathered at their home as a surprise, bringing with them a prepared lunch and a purse and requested the guests of honor to select their own gift. Both occasions were greatly appreciated and enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. Eysnogle, and all [*only a line or two left, but to blurred to read.]
