Some reasons why we recommend Going Merry above other scholarship sites:
Scholarship bundles: You can apply to multiple scholarships using one application and the same essay prompt.
Vetted scholarships: The Going Merry team periodically reviews every scholarship listing, to ensure the scholarship program is still active and the information is correct.
Personal matching: Once signed up, you’ll answer a few questions to fill out a basic profile, and then get matched to scholarships that fit your background, academics, interests, etc.
Clear organization: You can shortlist favorites and get deadline reminders about them. All drafts and applications are saved, and you’ll get updates on the scholarships you’ve applied to.
Direct, auto-filled applications: You can apply to many scholarships directly on the site (with forms helpfully pre-filled).
Financial aid applications: Seniors can also submit the FAFSA® through Going Merry, using their more user-friendly version of the government form, which they call “the FAFSA® Made Easier.”

The CSS Profile, like the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is used to assess your family’s income and assets to calculate your expected family contribution. And colleges use your expected family contribution to determine your financial aid package.
The schools you’re considering may require the CSS even if you’ve already submitted the FAFSA. Check this list to see which schools need it.
The CSS Profile for the 2022-23 school year comes out October 1, 2021, and each school or program sets its own deadline. But you should submit no later than two weeks before a school’s priority filing date.
The CSS Profile is used primarily by private schools and some state universities to award institutional grants and scholarships to pay for college.
The FAFSA can also be used for institutional aid, but its main use is to help you qualify for federal aid, including grants, work-study dollars and student loans.
The first step in filling out the FAFSA is creating your Federal Aid Student ID (FSA ID). This will allow you to fill out the form online and access fin aid info.
If you’re a dependent student, your parent or guardian will need his or her own FSA ID.
Visit fsaid.ed.gov to get an FSA ID. Also Available in: Spanish
This checklist will prepare you to fill out the FAFSA
Visit http://www.fafsa.ed.gov to start the FAFSA.
To speed up your application process and avoid mistakes, transfer your 2020 federal tax return information directly into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. If you choose not to, you may use the materials you gathered in Step 2 to answer the questions.
Sign with your FSA IDs and Submit! (SHOW IT TO YOUR COUNSELOR FIRST!)
IMPORTANT: Are you planning to attend a New York State College? Complete the NYS Application for TAP (Tuition Assistance Program) directly from the FAFSA! If you include a college in New York on your FAFSA, start your NYS TAP application use the link on the confirmation page of your FAFSA to complete your TAP application.
Don't make these common mistakes when filling out your FAFSA.
Filled out the FAFSA and wondering what happens next? Check out this video to learn what to expect after completing the FAFSA.
Remember, you need to complete the FAFSA not just once, but every year you plan to attend school. If you filled out a FAFSA the year before, you can use the renewal FAFSA.
