2022-2023 CASUALS NEWS
HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OUR PLAYERS AND FAMILIES
Remembrance Sunday November 13, 2022
Remembrance Sunday, 2022, was once again immaculately observed by all our teams. Once a year, we pay our respects to those who sacrificed their lives in the service of the Country. As a club that lost more players in the First War, than any other association football club, it is particularly poignant that we stand together on this day and recognise those who played for the club and who played 'the greater game'.
Recent research has identified over 110 players who fell in WWI, and over 30 in WW2. New research is uncovering a growing number who also fell in the Boer War of 1899/1902.
"Each generation stands on the shoulders of those who have gone before them"
Written by Fred Bickley, one of the founders of The Casuals, who made over 300 appearances for the club, the poem expresses his emotion at the enormous cost paid by his generation in the service of their Country during the war of 1914-18.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old..."
Casuals Hold Minute Silence for the Queen
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
21 April 1926 to 8 September 2022Queen Elizabeth II gave 70 years of service to the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth. Her reign was defined by humility and unselfish service, providing steady and constant leadership through some of the most significant moments in our history. All our teams held a minute's silence before their games today, as an expression of our respect and sadness at the loss of the only Monarch most of us have ever known. May she rest in peace.
Rest in Peace
