Early last month Wizards of the Coast WTOC the owners of the DND IP released a statement about the Open Gaming Lisence (OGL) Which allowed Players to produce their own content for DND Independently
The statement claimed they were revising the OGL and issuing the follwing changes that effected all homebrew content new and old
"You agree that nothing prohibits Us from developing, distributing, selling, or promoting something that is substantially similar to a Licensed Work.
" You agree to give Us a nonexclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, sub-licensable, royalty-free license to use that content for any purpose. "
"We have the sole right to decide what conduct violates Section VIII.G or Section VIII.H and You covenant and agree that You will not contest any such determination via any suit or other legal action. To the extent necessary and allowed by law, You waive any duty of good faith and fair dealing We would otherwise have in making any such determination"
To summarize if you Have made any Homebrew content at any point you no longer have control over how that content is distributed, You no longer own that content and at any point WOTC can terminate your contract and then use the content you make however you want
in the aftermath of the release a massive protest occurred and #OPENDND was established
in the wake of the protests and community wide survey in regards to the changes done by WOTC the changes were scrapped.
