If you want a hyper-detailed, multi-driver soundstage specifically engineered for audiophile listening and professional monitoring with maximum isolation, choose CCA KZ AS16; if you need a single dynamic driver system that prioritizes natural tonality, ergonomic comfort for long sessions, and refined bass response through patented acoustic tuning, choose NFACOUS NA20.
• CCA KZ AS16: Delivers immense clarity and detail with 16 balanced armature drivers and a three-way crossover, but the in-ear form factor creates high passive noise isolation that might feel too sealed for some users during casual calls. Best for: Audiophiles and professionals who demand absolute sonic separation and technical precision.
• NFACOUS NA20: Offers a smooth, natural sound signature via a large dynamic driver and patented SRA technology, featuring a unique hook-style design for stability without sacrificing comfort. Best for: Listeners who prioritize a relaxed, musical presentation and extended wearability for calls or mixing.
The CCA KZ AS16 Pro X is an engineering marvel designed for those who treat their audio gear as a serious tool rather than just an accessory. With 16 meticulously crafted balanced armature drivers working in unison, this earphone aims to cover the entire audible spectrum with surgical precision. The inclusion of a three-way crossover design is not merely a marketing buzzword; it physically separates frequency bands to eliminate interference, ensuring that the deep bass doesn't muddy the sparkling highs. If your primary goal involves analyzing music tracks, monitoring drummers' snare hits, or distinguishing every layer of a complex orchestral arrangement, the AS16 provides a level of resolution that few other products can match.
However, this focus on technical perfection comes with specific trade-offs regarding its physical design and usage context. The enclosure combines transparent resin and metal, which looks luxurious and durable, but the "in-ear" placement combined with the high impedance (19 ohm) suggests a design intended for studio environments where background noise is minimized. The gold-plated 2-pin connectors offer flexibility, allowing you to swap cables for better signal purity or even convert the unit for wireless use with adapters, but the reliance on a wired connection means you are tethered to your source device. This makes the AS16 an exceptional choice for stationary listening or focused work sessions, but perhaps less ideal for someone constantly moving around while trying to take a quick phone call.

You should buy the CCA KZ AS16 if you are a musician, a DJ, or an audiophile who values frequency accuracy above all else. The ultra-wide frequency range of 20-40000Hz ensures that no detail is lost, making it perfect for critical listening. However, you should skip this model if you find multi-driver systems uncomfortable or if you prefer a warmer, more "analog" sound that feels less clinical. The sound isolation provided by the fit is excellent for blocking out distractions, but if you need to hear ambient sounds for safety or social interaction while wearing them, the sealing nature of these buds might be too restrictive.
The NFACOUS NA20 takes a different philosophical approach to audio engineering, focusing on the quality of a single, massive dynamic driver rather than the sheer quantity of drivers found in competitors like the AS16. At its heart lies the MC2L-100M dynamic driver, featuring a beryllium-plated diaphragm that is lighter than traditional materials. This allows for faster transient response and a more fluid, natural sound reproduction. What truly sets the NA20 apart is the patented SRA (Selective Reflection Adjustment) technology. By using five air pressure controlling damping nets and two tuning sponges, the manufacturer actively reduces reflected sound within the ear canal, resulting in a purer tone that feels less congested. This makes the NA20 an outstanding choice for those seeking a best open ear headphones experience, despite being an in-ear monitor, as it avoids the hollow, metallic resonance common in cheaper dynamic drivers.
Comfort and durability are central to the NA20's design philosophy. The casing utilizes high-strength transparent polycarbonate paired with CNC carved anodized aluminum parts, finished in a Maillard brown style that feels premium to the touch. The shape is not just aesthetically pleasing; it is created based on years of engineering experience to fit the contours of the ear perfectly. This ergonomic design, combined with the hook-style earpiece shape, ensures that the headphones stay secure during movement without digging into the ear canal. This makes the NA20 particularly well-suited for long listening sessions, whether you are mixing tracks in a studio or taking extended conference calls. The integrated electronic tuning PCB further enhances adaptability, allowing the sound profile to shift gracefully across different music styles without sounding harsh or fatiguing over time.
You should choose the NFACOUS NA20 if you value a warm, engaging sound signature and need a pair of headphones that won't cause ear fatigue after hours of use. The inclusion of four pairs of MS42 ear tips (XS, S, M, L) ensures you can find a seal that works for your specific anatomy, which is crucial for both sound quality and call clarity. Conversely, you might want to look elsewhere if you require the extreme, dissecting detail of a multi-driver setup. While the NA20 is incredibly capable, its single dynamic driver simply cannot replicate the sheer layer-by-layer separation of the 16-driver AS16. It is also worth noting that while the build is robust, the hook design might feel unfamiliar to those used to standard straight-in-ear monitors, though most users report it offers superior stability.
• Best for technical detail and speed → CCA KZ AS16. The 16 balanced armature drivers provide a speed and separation that a single dynamic driver simply cannot match, making it superior for complex arrangements.
• Best for natural tonality and warmth → NFACOUS NA20. The SRA technology and beryllium diaphragm deliver a smoother, more organic sound that many find more enjoyable for long-term listening.
• Best for call clarity and voice assistant integration → NFACOUS NA20. The ergonomic hook design keeps the microphone position stable, and the passive noise cancellation helps isolate speech without the harshness of heavy isolation.
• Best for cable customization → CCA KZ AS16. The 2-pin connector system is industry-standard for swapping cables, offering endless possibilities for upgrading to wireless or higher-purity conductors.
• Best for long-session comfort → NFACOUS NA20. The custom-molded curves and hook design distribute weight differently, reducing pressure points compared to the deeper insertion required by the AS16.
• Best for sound isolation → CCA KZ AS16. The dense resin and metal construction combined with the deep fit creates a near-perfect seal, blocking out external noise more effectively than the NA20.
• Best for aesthetic uniqueness → NFACOUS NA20. The Maillard Brown finish and CNC aluminum accents give it a boutique, artistic look that stands out from the typical black or clear designs.
• Best for frequency range coverage → Tie. Both models boast a 20-40000Hz range, but they achieve it through vastly different methods: mass (AS16) versus motion efficiency (NA20).
In my opinion, if you are looking for the best open ear headphones for calls that still maintain a professional in-ear form factor, the NFACOUS NA20 is the winner. While the CCA KZ AS16 is undeniably impressive for its sheer number of drivers, the NA20's focus on acoustic refinement through its SRA technology and ergonomic hook design makes it far more practical for daily communication. The single dynamic driver produces a vocal presence that feels natural and intimate, whereas the 16 drivers of the AS16 can sometimes feel overly analytical and distant for conversation. I would personally buy the NFACOUS NA20 because it balances high-fidelity performance with the comfort needed for extended wear, making it the smarter choice for anyone who uses their headphones primarily for rotatable ear cups on ear headphones for calls scenarios or general long-duration listening.
Yes, both models support clear audio transmission due to their wired connectivity and noise control features. The NFACOUS NA20 is slightly better suited for calls due to its ergonomic hook design that keeps the microphone stable and its passive noise cancellation that isolates your voice clearly.
Balanced armature drivers, like those in the CCA KZ AS16, are known for speed and detail but can sometimes lack bass depth. Dynamic drivers, like the one in the NFACOUS NA20, typically offer better bass impact and a more natural, full-bodied sound signature.
Both models feature 2-pin connectors, allowing you to replace the stock cable with aftermarket options. This is a key feature for the CCA KZ AS16 to upgrade to wireless adapters, while the NFACOUS NA20 comes with a high-quality 6N OFC cable optimized for its specific tuning.
