Mohammad Bahreini, PhD student (2023 - ) @Université de Sherbrooke. Project in collaboration with Electro Carbon.
Co-supervision with Dr. Martin Désilets.
He received his BSc and MSc degrees in Mechanical Engineering from University, Iran. After graduation, he worked for several years before starting his Ph.D. studies in Chemical Engineering at Université de Sherbrooke in 2022. His research focuses on both experimental study and numerical modeling of CO₂ electrolysis cells for sustainable production, with the aim of improving performance and scalability in industrial electrochemical systems. He uses COMSOL and MATLAB for simulation with in-depth expertise in CFD tools and programming. Outside of research, Mohammad enjoys fishing, hiking, and exploring new technologies..
Juan David Sarmiento Gomez, PhD student (2025 - ).
Juan David obtained a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Universidad del Valle in Cali, Colombia. During his B.Sc. He had an academic exchange and a research internship in the province of Saskatchewan (Canada), at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina, respectively. After obtaining his BSc degree, he worked in the biotech industry for 1.5 years, before starting a PhD in Chemical and Biotech. Engineering at Université de Sherbrooke. Juan David's area of research concerns the development of AI-supported tools to optimize fermentation processes for energy applications. Besides, he is interested in renewable energy, bioenergy, biomass thermochemical conversion, chemical process simulation, CCUS, AI in ChemEng, among other topics.
Beyond academia, he loves traveling, getting to know new, different cultures, trying new food, and meeting new people in this really diverse world. He likes history and geography, cycling, hiking, playing tennis and table tennis, and enjoys reading (from Harry Potter to Stephen King, and especially Latin American writers like Gabo and Isabelle Allende).
