The Coastal and Environmental Fellows Program is a research fellowship provides "URI undergraduate students with opportunities to
participate in ongoing environmental research, education, or public outreach programs designed to address current environmental and/or societal issues".
Selected fellows work on their research for 20-40 hours per week during the summer, receiving a stipend for their work, and 10 hours during the fall term, where they receive up to 3 academic credit hours. The latter is dependent on research availability.
Fellows are also required to enroll in a 2 credit course, EVS 366, that teaches them how to construct an effective scientific poster for their poster symposium the December following their summer research.
Student Eligibility:
Undergraduate students in College of the Environment and Life Sciences
Good standing with the University
Enrolled full-time through December of the program year are encouraged to apply.

The Science and Engineering Fellowship program is a 10 week summer research program that provides "students from under-represented
populations with interdisciplinary experience addressing real-world challenges".
Selected Fellows will start in May of that year and work 30 hours per week. Fellows are paid hourly and on-campus housing provided for students with demonstrated need. Students work individually or on a team with faculty and staff mentors. Fellows also are able to gain different skills through professional development opportunities and build connections with other fellows through team building activities.

Student Eligibility:
Students from underrepresented communities in College of the Environment and Life Sciences and College of Engineering that are enrolled full-time through December of the program year are encouraged to apply

The SURF program is an intensive 10 week program that "offers undergraduates detailed insight into real-world research, helping
students decide upon a future career path."
There is an alternate version of SURF called SURF Flex, for students whose schedules don't allow for the traditional 40 hours per week SURF fellows perform. SURF Flex students are still expected to attend and participate in all other SURF programming, such as the SURF conference and poster presentation.
For students wanting to continue their research in their summer labs or join another RI C-AIM project can also receive funding from SURF+.
Students in SURF range in majors from the College of Environment and Life Sciences, College of Engineering, and the College of Arts and Sciences.

The National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (NSF REU) are funded full-time summer research experiences

Selected students are granted stipends and assistance with housing and travel when needed, as REU sites may be in the US or a foreign location.
Student Eligibility:
